McCoy Enslaved

Work Text

Leonard McCoy, MD, PH'D and Starfleet Physician late of Earth, sat on the hard desert ground on an alien planet. He was chained to the spoke of a wagon wheel by his wrists and he was very thirsty. The aliens that he had been sold to didn't seem to need much water and they sure weren't worried about his discomfort. It was a hell of a note. McCoy had been on his was to Earth's Jupiter Base on Europa when the NASA shuttle had been driven off course by the attack of the slaver ship. They hadn't had a chance of escape. Space warfare was not yet perfected by Humans. True they had almost destroyed themselves during the Eugenic Wars, but the Nations had decided to curtail the space weapons program. It was to prevent the recurrence of hostilities on a larger scale. Ironic. McCoy was brought back to reality by a booted foot prodding him in the ribs. "Come, Human. Here is your ration for today. We must not allow you to sicken die in the heat." The old Pavan slave sat a plate of food and a skin of water down by the prisoner. "What the hell difference does it make?" he replied as he reached for the water. "Why none to me little one. But our master is determined that you will bring a good price at the sale in Shi'Kar." The slave laughed. "We must keep you in the proper condition to attract the right buyer." He continued to laugh as he rose and walked away. "Glad to see you so tickled." McCoy grumped to himself as he swallowed the brackish water. It tasted of old leather, but it was wet. He had just finished his meal and was trying to discover the largest spot of shade under the wagon when the camp came alive. The master and his guards were diving for weapons. The unshackled slaves were running out of the camp shouting and those like himself, who were chained, were frantically fighting their bonds to escape. Before McCoy could even get anyone's attention to find out why, the attack began. The raiders struck the camp while it was still unprepared to meet the onslaught. The Human saw both guards and slaves cut down by men mounted on horse-like beasts wielding swords and spears. He saw the Master and his cadre of loyal followers form a defensive position and start to fight the invaders off. From his position, McCoy didn't see much of a chance for them. But before the real slaughter could start, a new sound came., one of a different timbre than that of the panic before. There were war shouts coming from a different direction, from the east. Before he knew what had happened the whole situation had reversed itself.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Three mounted horsemen had arrived, also armed and began attacking the enemy. McCoy could make out two young Vulcan men and someone who looked like a Human. The battle took on a whole different attitude. The raiders broke and ran looking like they were more interested in escaping than continuing the fight. But as they fled, one turned his mount and fired what looked like a warped cross-bow in a parting shot. The apparent Human was hit in the chest and fell from his horse. One of the Vulcans spun his horse and rode to his side, dismounting hurriedly to get to his fallen companion. The other warrior pursued the robber band out of the campsite, then turned to come back to the camp.McCoy could see from his place that the injured rider was badly wounded and his red Human blood was staining the packed ground. The first warrior was bending over the fallen man and cradling him gently, speaking to him. The Doctor doubted he could be heard. The other Vulcan rode past where he was tied. McCoy tried to get his attention. "Hey you! Lord! Listen to me. I think I can help him. Lord! Please."The Vulcan turned his mount. "Who are you?""I'm a Doctor! A physician. I can help him, but you must let me get to him."The Warrior paused a moment, thinking, then raised his sword. He brought it down on the chain that held McCoy, shattering it, and motioned. "Go on, but do no ill or your life will be forfeit.""Yes Sir!" Freed, McCoy go to his feet and he hurried to the two figures on the ground. He got there just as the Vulcan had grasped the arrow to pull it out."No! Stop!" McCoy said as loud as he could to get the young Vulcan's attention. He looked at the Doctor, seeing him for the first time. "Why?""If you pull it out, he'll bleed to death in a few minutes." McCoy dropped to the ground, beside them. "I think I can prevent that if you let me try."The Vulcan removed his hand from the shaft. "Look then."McCoy leaned over the Human. The shirt had already been ripped off his chest, exposing the wound with the arrow protruding. He gently probed the site with his fingers. The wounded man groaned softly and opened his eyes. "Spock?""I am here, Jim. Rest easy. This one says he is a healer and can help you, and by all the gods, he'd better."The Doctor looked at the Vulcan. "I think I can safely remove the arrow, but it must be done surgically.""What do you need?""I need him on a table, out of the dirt and in the light. A sharp, thin blade, a probe of some sort, a stout needle and strong thread all as clean as possible." McCoy looked over at the main camp table by the fire. He pointed to it. "That will do."The Warrior, who was hovering closely, watching the remaining survivors motioned to them. "Clear the table!"There was no hesitation on their parts, the table was stripped to bare boards in moments and others scurried to find the other items. Spock gently and carefully picked up the human and carried him to the table. For all his care, McCoy knew the Vulcan had caused the young man a great deal of pain but he only moaned once, very softly. He followed them to the makeshift surgery. As he bent over the the pale form of his patient he tried to get the man's attention. "Listen, can you hear me?" The man nodded, teeth gritted. "Okay, I'm a Doctor from Earth. I have to operate to remove the arrow. This is gonna hurt like hell cause there's no anesthesia, but you've got to hold still. Do you understand?" Again, the man nodded. The Warrior had come to stand by Spock. He looked first at the injured Human then at McCoy, then he pulled out a thin stiletto of a knife and handed it to the doctor. McCoy took it with a nod and called out to a slave that was nearby. "Bring me fire." A burning torch was brought and he passed the blade through the flame, heating it. "Not the best, but it will have to do under the circumstances." He looked at Spock. "You're gonna have to hold him. If he jerks I could accidently kill him."The Vulcan nodded and moved to the head of the table. There he took a firm hold on the patient's shoulders. The human looked up at him. "Sever it.""No, that will surely kill you. Be still."McCoy gritted his teeth and gently touched the wound. "Here we go," he announced unnecessarily. Then slowly and carefully, he started the bloody work. The patient tensed, the cords of his neck standing out from the pain. McCoy followed the path of the shaft into the wound. Once he had reached the head of the arrow, he began to loosen it from where it had lodged in the ribs. The man gasped and jerked. "Hold him, damn it." The Vulcan said nothing but bore down on the Human pinning him to the table. The young man tried to jerk again, but this time was held firmly in place. Then, he gasped, straining against the iron hands that held him and slumped back bonelessly.McCoy looked up sharply. "Is he still breathing?""Yes, but he's lost consciousness," came the worried reply."Good, that will make it easier on him and us." He twisted the knife against the rib that was holding the arrow. Finally the barb dislodged and loosened. McCoy took a deep breath and pulled it smoothly from the wound. "There, that's got it." He handed the arrow to the Warrior who looked at it then lay it down on a nearby rock. "Now the needle and thread." He took what was offered and asked suspiciously, "What is this?"The Warrior replied. "Kelhat tail hair. Don't worry I poured wine over it. Nothing could survive that."McCoy grimaced. "Sorry I asked." He started to pull the edges of the wound together and pulled the needle through.Spock asked worriedly. "What are you doing?""I'm closing the wound so it'll heal quicker."The two Vulcans looked at each other and the other Warrior shrugged. "Sounds better than the fire to me."Spock continued to watch worriedly until McCoy was done. "That will work?""Every time," McCoy assured him. "All you have to do is keep it clean and him still until he heals. A bandage would be nice too to help hold it all together." Again a slave appeared with the required item. With Spock's help, the human was successfully bandaged. The doctor stepped back from his patient to view his handiwork. "That 's all. Now it's up to him. If he doesn't go into shock or get an infection, he should be alright."The Warrior put his hand on Spock's shoulder. "We can camp here for awhile until Jim heals. There will be other gatherings and he can rest comfortably here.""Very well, I will help you set up the tents. You, healer, stay here with Jim until we have a place to move him that he may rest."McCoy nodded, then looked at his bloody hands. The warrior notion to a young slave boy who had been hovering in the background. "Jok"eil, bring water and get whatever is necessary.""Yes, Lord Satak." the slave bowed and scurried off on his errands.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

After the youngster disappeared to the supply wagon, the two warriors began to make a campsite beyond the chaos of the destroyed slaver camp. Jok'eil soon returned carry a bucket of water."Thanks a lot kid," McCoy dunked his head in the water, then started to wash the rapidly drying blood off his hands and arms. "Wheew, that's good," McCoy saw a riock a few steps away and went and sat down."My name is Jok'eil, not Kid," the boy followed him and sat down next to him. "I belong to Lord Satak. The other warrior is Lord Spock and the one you cut upon is Jim. He is a slave too.""Spock doesn't treat him like a slave," McCoy stretched his stiff back muscles. "My name is Leonard McCoy."The boy looked at him then replied in a careful tone. "Jim is a fighting slave, and worthy of much honor, Leonard McCoy.""Fighting slave huh. You one too?""No, I am too young yet. I am a bed slave to my Lord," he cocked his head at McCoy. "It is not common for a slave to have knowledge of healing.""Well, on my home planet, Earth, I was a doctor, but here I seem to be so much meat.""Meat? Human's are not meat. Here most are bed slaves like myself."McCoy ran his hand through his overgrown, graying hair. "Peachy, flaming peachy.""Maybe Lord Spock will buy you since you saved Jim."The doctor grunted and shifted from sun on the rock to leaning back against it. He was really too tired to try and figure this all out right now. He'd probably just wind up tied back to that wheel anyway. He was next conscious of a hand on his shoulder, shaking him. "Wake healer and eat."McCoy looked up at the warrior Spock. "I've already been fed once today. Master Seltak....""You need not be concerned with him anymore. You now belong to me. Rise and eat.""Sure." He got to his feet and followed the Vulcan back to the campfire. "How's the patient?""He still sleeps and with no fever. So far your life is safe."McCoy gratefully took the plate that was loaded with real, hot food on it. As he sat down he glanced around. All signs of the caravan was completely gone. All that remained were two black tents, a cook fire and a picket line with some of the horse-like animals tethered to it. "Everybody gone?"Spock crouched down by the fire. "Seltak did not wish to miss the beginning of the Great Gathering. In his gratitude for our saving his cowardly hide he gifted me with you.""That was nice of him. Now what?" McCoy paused to swallow another mouthful of meat."That remains to be seen. I have no need for a bed slave, but I was thinking of getting a castrate for a general servant while I am on campaign," he looked at the human thoughtfully."Uh, sorry Lord. I'm not."Spock pulled his dagger from its sheath and idly fondled the blade, "Yet.""Lord, please. Is this necessary?""No, not necessary," the Vulcan sheathed his knife. "Can I trust you around my bed slave intact?""Oh yeah. No question in my mind. I, uh, don't care for men in that way."Spock looked at him then nodded. "Then calm yourself and finish eating. He may have need of your skills yet," He stood, towering over his slave. "What is you name?""Leonard McCoy. I'm a doctor.""Very well, Leonard. We shall see." He motioned towards the tent. "When you finish your meal you may go to him.""Don't worry. I'll take good care of him."Spock nodded and turned to go check the animals.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

After finishing his meal, McCoy went into the tent. After a quick check of his sleeping patient, he was satisfied with his work. The stitches were holding well. His future seemed secure. With nothing to do, the doctor went over to a huge tapestry being used as a wall divider. It was beautiful and reminded him of some he'd seen in one of the old castles in England on his last furlough."Quite a place, isn't it?" A weak voice spoke to him from the bed.McCoy turned to see Jim smiling at him. "You are supposed to be sleeping, not being an art critic.""Sorry.""It's bad enough I have to operate on you with Bowie knives and horsehair," McCoy grumbled as he went over and checked the injured man's pulse." He then felt his forehead. "How 're you feeling?""Happy to be alive. Where'd you come from?""Atlanta. Don't talk so much. Do you want a drink?" At his patient's nod, McCoy brought him a cup of water. "And I wish to hell I was back there right now.""I sympathize, " The human tried to shift his position. McCoy lifted him and pushed some pillows under his back. "It can be pretty rough here.""So I gathered. How long?""Three years.""Hum, well young fella if you want to get any older you've got to to get as much sleep as you can. I've been told I was given to Spock for all y'alls good deed of getting my former master's cookies out of the fire and as long as you don't kick off on us my future's pretty well assured."The younger man nodded. "I'm Jim Kirk, glad to have you.""Leonard McCoy, glad you needed me. Now, get some rest.""Okay Sawbones. But listen, don't screw up here. Spock's a good master. He's fair.""Yeah, he even said I could keep my gonads." At the quisical look on Jim's face, he continued. "Don't worry, I've had too many beatings since I've been here. I'm not looking to add to my collection. You rest."Kirk, satisfied, closed his eyes.Spock came into the tent and looked at McCoy for a verdict. The doctor pointed to the door and then followed the warrior out. "So far, so good. I think we'll all live, this time.""So we shall. Good," Spock motioned to the fire. "Come and sit."McCoy bowed his head and moved towards his rock. After they were seated, Spock motioned to Jok'eil and the boy brought them two goblets. McCoy was surprised his contained some sort of wine."Where is Satak?" "Lord, he has gone to hunt game.""Good. Now go and sit with Jim but do not wake him." he turned to the Vulcan. "Now, tell me of yourself.""Lord, on my world I am a doctor, a healer in the military service on my way to our base on Earth's moon. We were attacked and our ship was captured. Many of the passengers were either killed when the hull was breached or died on the journey here. Those of us that were left alive were sold to different bidders at the landing area. There weren't many of us. I just managed to survive. Seltak bought me and was taking me to a Great Gathering of some sort where I was supposed to be a hot item.""Indeed, at the Gathering of Warriors you would have been," Spock looked into the fire. "But I have no need of you in your traditional role. Should I sell you or...." Spock looked closely at the human. "I have some knowledge of humans and I know you are not the animals of your reputation. You have shown skill as a healer, and that can be an asset to a warrior. But you must learn the duties of a camp slave. That will be you primary duties. It will be hard work, if you shirk then you will be sold. Do you understand?""Yes, Lord.""Jim is also my slave, but as he serves me in both bed and battle he has no duties as a servant. He will train you, but he will not do your job."McCoy looked at the Vulcan in surprise."You have a question?" Ask."I thought Jim was a fighting slave?""He is and a fine one, but he was a bed slave first and of the sort that one does not give up easily." Spock looked at McCoy with amusement. "There are some who will accuse me of a magnitude of appetite, having two human slaves.""Why?""Everyone knows that all humans should stay naked and chained to the bed." At McCoy's expression, Spock laughed. "Do not worry, as long as I have Jim, you are safe.""Uh, thank you."Jok'eil appeared at the tent door. "Lord Spock, Jim is awake.""Good," the Vulcan looked at McCoy. "There is a spring by those trees." He said indicating the primary oasis. "You go and bathe. Jok'eil will show you the way."The youngster grinned broadly at the back of Spock as he disappeared into the tent. "See, I told you he was a good master. Come on."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Mcoy followed the boy to the stream. Whe they got there they discovered a gentle curve in the water formed a shallow pool deep enough to soak in and McCoy took full advantage of it. "Boy howdy! You know this is the first honest-to-God bath I've had in three long months?"I wasn't sure of the exact length, but I could tell it had been awhile." the boy grinned at him.Course you're no petunia yourself. Why don't you join me?"The boy looked at him suspiciously and McCoy shook his head at him. Don't worry, I'm not about to touch you. I want to keep all of me intact.Jok'eil smiled at him and nodded. After he was in the water too, he looked at McC. "What's a petunia?"The question caught McCoy by surprise. It brought hiime just how far away from Earth he really was. "Why, uh, it's a flower. The bloom of a plant.""Oh, I understand. Like the blossoms of the Shelikal in my mother's misstresses' garden." The boy looked dreamy for a second as he remembered. "You are right. I didn't smell nice like them any more.McCoy looked at the boy sympathically at the boy. "How old are you, son?""Fourteen Vulcan years and nineteen Pavan years. I am in my senior adolescence. Why?""How long have you been gone from your home?""My first master sold me when I reached puberrty, three years ago. Then I belonged to a young lord in the city for two yars until his sister coveted me and I was put in open auction. There Lord Satak bought me to serve him." The boy looked at McCoy shyly. "It is an honor to be chosen by a warrior.""Yeah, well I'm glad somebody thinks so." McCoy shook his head. From his looks the boy was about the equivalent to about sixteen. He seemed much too young to have such a history.they looked up at a sound. On the bank Satak had returned and was watching them, holding his horse. "Spock has a great deal of trust in you, human. So much trust could get you killed." He motioned towards the boy and Jok'eil hurried out of the water. "Whar have you been doing boy?"McCoy looked at the warrior in confusiion. "Lord Satak," he said carefully, "I don't understand. What did we do wrong?"Satak looked at the boy. "Tell him.""It is not common for a bed slave to be naked before any but his master. But Lord, I love you. I would never betray you with anyone, never with a slave. Please, believe your servant."Satak smiled down at the boy and wrapped an arm around him, pulling him close. "Then remember who and what you are." The warrior bent down and kissed the boy on the lips and Jok'eil responded by putting his arms around the man waist and pulling close to him, returning the kiss with enthusiasm. McCoy looked away, embarrassed. Satak looked at the human and noticed his reaction. "Remember, human. This is not Earth and our ways are not your ways. Beware that you act wrongly and will cause your Master to have to punish you. Someday, this could cause dire consequenses for you and the ones you may care for." He looked down at the boy in his arms. "Finish dressing, then come back to camp. My kill needs attention. Teach this one his duties so that Lord Spock doesn't have to."Yes Lord."The Vulcan mounted his beast and McCoy saw he body of a deer like animal draped across the horse's saddle. Jok'eil watched him as he rode off. He then hurridly pulling on his clothes."I'm sorry Jok'eil. I didn't realize..."It's not your fault. I know better but the water looked so cool. The boy hurridly tossed the human his clothes. "I should have not been naked with you. I am his bed slave. I can have no other. If you had touched me, he could have killed you.""Well I didn't. And he understood, right? It'll be alright, you'll see.""I pray so. Come on, we must hurry."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

When they got back to camp, the two warriors were deep in discussion. McCoy could see that Satak was still a little angry, but Spock seemed to be calming his friend. When the Vulcans saw them, Spock motioned McCoy towards his tent. The human nodded and went in to check on Kirk. His patient smiled at him from the bed. "What are you grinning about?" McCoy asked. "You know I wouldn't hurt the boy.""I do, Spock does, but Satak doesn't trust you yet. If he didn't love and trust Jok'eil there might have been trouble." Kirk winced as he shifted positions."Well before your disertations, let me change the dressing on you chest or I won't live long enough to worry about Lord Satak." Kirk nodded. "You know, as strange as this may seem," McCoy spoke as he removed the bandage, "I could swear that I know you. You sure look familiar." He looked from the wound to Jim's face. "I don't always remember names or faces but bodies I never forget."His patient looked up at hi thoughtfully, then down at the stitches in his chest. "Those look god-aweful.""Yeah I know. My chief surgeon at NASA would have a fit. It's a good thing for you I worked in the Emergency Room so much." He eased the patient forward so he could wrap the new bandage into place. Finished, he readjusted the pillows and help him to get comfortable. After Kirk was back in his position on the bed, he sat back and looked at him closely. McCoy saw a young man, in his early thirties, light brown hair that was sunbleached blond. The face was one of arresting beauty, with large eyes of a light hazel color. It was a warm face, one that he was sure he had seen before."Well, if you worked in the ER at NASA Hospital, you probably have seen me professionally. I was in the Mars probe that decided to blow up on the pad. I took some hard rads and your people had me for a whole two weeks.""Mars probe? Yeah, I remember. That was, oh four-five years ago. Wait, you're that James Kirk, the astronaut?""Afraid so, Doctor. And now that I think about it, I remember you too." Jim grinned up at him and shook his head. "A real Sawbones, always bitching about something.""Yeah, that was a long long time ago in a land far away." McCoy looked at him quizically. "How did you wind up here?""Well, you know Shuttle 392. We were trying a lunar orbit to prep for a new space station." McCoy nodded. "We made it to the far side of the moon when we were caught in some sort of tractor beam. Being exploratory, not military, we weren't even armed.""392 was supposedly blown out of orbit by a meteorite with all hands lost. At least, that's the official story.""Meteorite, my ass!" Jim made a face. "That Orion meteorite that captured us brought all of the survivors here and sold us as slaves.""Is that when Spock bought you?""I'm afraid it wasn't that easy." Jim lay back on the supporting pillows and stared at the canvas ceiling. "First, I went to a trader, somewhat like the one who had you. I received some basic training from him. You know -- language and serving manners." McCoy nodded and Jim went on. "Well, he sold me to Seron, the Chief Warrior in this part of the country. I traveled with him to a gathering of young Vulcan Warriors - In - Training. There I was a prize in a contest, to encourage competition among his students. One named Savak won me, a real bastard." Kirk shifted his gaze back to McCoy. "You know why we humans are so highly valued here on Vulcan?"The older man nodded. "Jok'eil told me -- a bed slave.""Yeah. But nobody told me. My instruction in pleasing my Master was a gang-bang with me as the guest of honor." His eyes shifted back to the ceiling. "Well, to make a long story short, a few weeks later Savak challenged Spock to a contest and I was the wager. He lost , thank God and and I got a new Master."McCoy tried to lighten the mood. "Well, you seem to have it pretty good now, all things considered.""Yes," Kirk agreed softly. "Thanks to Spock."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

“I’m confused. Jok’eil said you were a fighting slave. Spock said you’re still his bed slave. Are you just a servant or what?” McCoy stood up and wiped his hands on a cloth. “I mean, I don’t want to make a big deal of it, but I need to know which way the wind blows.”“Indeed you do, Leonard.” A quiet voice came from the doorway. “He is both to me.” Spock entered the room. “That is why I need another servant. Serving me in both bed and battle keeps Jim quite busy.” The Vulcan to walked to the bed and bent over his human. “How do you feel this evening?”“Much better, though still sore.”“You may thank your Earth gods and the skill of your friend for that.” Spock kissed Jim on the forehead. “I unknowingly could have caused your death.” He sat down next to Kirk. “It seems I must learn more of your internal arrangement for further reference.”“Doctor McCoy can fill you in on the most important parts.” The human looked over at the doctor. “It seems we knew each other on Earth. He was a healer in the hospital where I spent some time.”“Then, you think I should keep him?”Jim smiled at the look on McCoy’s face. “Yes, Lord. If it pleases you I believe he can be of some use to you.”“Very well, healer.” The Warrior looked sternly at his new slave. “But remember what I told you earlier.”“Yes Sir, uh, Lord Spock. I will.”“You will listen to Jim and learn our ways. Where we are going, you will be held accountable for your actions by a higher power than mine.” He turned back to Jim. “Satak has killed, there will be fresh meat tonight. Rest well so that you can eat and regain your strength.”“Yes, my Lord.” After the Vulcan left the room Kirk leaned back into his bed and looked at McCoy quizzically. “What did he say to you?”“Well, let’s see,” The doctor removed the pillow from behind his patient’s back. “Oh yeah, if you lived I lived and if I made a pass at you, he’d cut my nuts off.”Kirk eyed him warily. “Hum, am I safe?”“After that, are you kidding? Besides,” The doctor stepped back and surveyed his handiwork. “Besides you’re not my type.”Kirk smiled. “I’m glad, though I have to tell you that you won’t run into many of your type here.”“Figures.” The older man groused. Then he cocked his head at his patient. “Is he yours?”“Four years ago I would have laughed at you, or maybe taken a swing but now, now I have to say yes, definitely.”“Jim my boy, it takes all kinds to make a world and apparently a galaxy.” He shrugged. “Now, I want you to get some sleep. Remember, you have to eat something this evening, so be conscious enough to enjoy it.”His patient smiled at him and closed his eyes obediently.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

When the meal was ready, Spock took a portion into the tent to Jim. After Satak had eaten, Jok'eil and McCoy were allowed to eat as much as they wanted from the roasted haunch of what-ever-it-was. It was the first time since his capture that McCoy had been afforded he luxury of a full belly. After the meal was over, he helped the boy clean up around the camp and generally do whatever it was he could think of that would be helpful while staying a good distance from Jok'eil.Spock came out of the tent where he had eaten. He shook his head at McCoy. "He has no appetite, Healer. He must eat to regain his strength.""Yes Sir, but he is still weak." he glanced at the still glowing fire. "Could I be allowed to use some water and some of the leftover meat? I could make a broth that would be easier for him to eat."Spock turned to the other young warrior who had just returned from tending their mounts."Satak, it is your kill. Do you object?""For Jim, of course not. It was he that saved my life six small suns ago." He handed rhe doctor his dagger. "Take what you need. Jok'eil, fetch the water.""Thank you, Sir." McCoy went to the hanging carcass and cut the raw backstrap from the animal.Spock went over to the other Vulcan and sat down next to his friend by the fire. "He just didn't want me to claim Jok'eil also. Then all Jim would be good for is a camp slave."Satak slapped him on the shoulder. "I can tell the truth in that by the rocking of your tent in the late evenings." Both warriors laughed. "In truth, Spock, how is Jim?""Weak, but I believe that he will recover to ride with us again. This human healer has some skill after all. I will keep him as a servant.""Will you keep him as an entire?""For now. He has pledged to me that he will not touch either of the pleasure slaves.""He pledged?" Satak snorted in amusement. ''You believe his pledge is good?""Yes I do. Human's are not such animals as everyone supposes. Look at Jim.""Jim may be an exception." Satak warned. "Just let this McCoy healer know that if I catch him again with Jok'eil, it will not just be his scrotum that I slice.""He will do no harm.""Perhaps, and he is a skilled healer. I believe it will be worth the risk after all."After McCoy allowed the meat laden broth to cook in a cauldron that had been used by Jok’eil to fetch the water. He allowed it to simmer on the fire.’s coals until the second sun had set, then he took a cup of soup into the tent. Jim grinned weakly from his bed. "You again?" he asked."And what's this I hear about you not doing your share in trying to get well.""Sorry, just not hungry.""Well here, try some of this. It's not Granny McCoy's chicken soup. but it should go down easier." He spooned some of the liquid into Jim's mouh.""Hum, not too bad. If you're not careful, you'll be made chief cook and bottlewasher.""Not me. I'm a Doctor, not a cook.""You're not going to tell Spock that are you?""Who me? " McCoy pantomimed distress. "I'm not gonna tell him nothing he don't want to hear, ya hear.""Wise choice. It's for the best, at least for now. I don't know how far he'll let you go.""At least he kept the other one from slitting my gizzard earlier. I'm not a fool or a hero." He fed Jim another spoonful of food.""That's good. You'll live longer." He swallowed another mouthful. "What time is it?""It's starting to get dark outside."Spock entered the tent. "Indeed, if you need to wash or relieve yourself you should do it now before the darkness closes in. People will not attack at night but the Le-Mata hunt in the darkness. It will not be safe to leave the circle of firelight.""Yes Sir. Thank you." McCoy got up and left the bowl next to Kirk's bed as he exited the tent.Spock watched him leave. "I have decided to keep him. He will serve to do the camp chores after your are well."Kirk smiled up at him from his bed. "I'm glad. I know you won't be sorry."Spock sat next to him on the bed and picked up the bowl and spoon. "You should finish this.""Yes, my Lord and Master.""You are feeling better." the Vulcan spooned more broth into Jim's mouth. "Eat and grow strong. We cannot delay here long, our supplies were only meant to last until we get to Shi'Kar." He smiled at his lover. "I fear you will miss the Gathering this season.""Honestly, I'm glad to be alive at this point. There will be other Gatherings.""Indeed. I am grateful to McCoy. You would have difficult to replace." Spock bent down and kissed his human on the forehead. He looked at his lover. "Why did you ask me to break the link? You could have given us both away to Satak."Kirk answered slowly touching the Vulcan's hand. "I didn't want you to die with me.""Do you think I want to live on without you?" Spock kissed him again." That is why we bonded, in my PonFarr, so neither would be left alone." They separated at a noise. It was McCoy. "Excuse me Sir. Where do you want me to sleep?"Spock indicated a pile of furs in a corner. "You may have that resting place.""Isn't that Jim's bed?""Jim sleeps in my bed.""Yes Sir." he started for the corner, then stopped and turned to face them. "Sir, uh, you shouldn't... uh...I meant....""Yes, I know." the Vulcan looked amused at his discomfort. "Never fear. I will not undo your work. I will sleep here on the floor next to him. Will that suit you?"This time McCoy did look suitably embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I only meant....""That I could unknowingly injure him in my sleep. I know. Unless you want me to share your blankets tonight.""No! I mean no Sir. I'm sorry Sir."McCoy went over to the indicated corner. He arranged his pile of furs and buried himself in their warmth. Soon the light was extinguished. He could hear the two men murmuring and after a while the wind came up making the tent shake and creak slightly. If he tried real hard, he cold almost imagine that he was back on Earth on a fishing trip with some of his old cronies. Gradually the soothing sounds eased him into a sound sleep.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The next morning, McCoy couldn't remember where he was. The tent was very quiet and as he looked around he saw Jim's empty bed. His first thought was that the human had died in the night. The Doctor struggled out of the restrictive furs and stood, looking around the entire tent looking for his patient! He searched for some clue of what had happened. Where was everyone and, more importantly, where was Jim? And if he was dead, why was he still alive? As the thought of running out into the desert flashed through his mind. the Doctor heard a noise outside the tent. Then Spock and Jim came in through the door. Jim was leaning heavily on the Vulcan and Spock had his arm aroung the human's waist practically carrying him.McCoy's fear changed at first to relief and then to anger. "Just what the Hell are you two doing?" He ran over to the two men and took the wounded man's other arm." Are you tryiing to rip your stitches and get us both dead?" The angry human looked at Spock "Lord, this man shouldn't be out of bed, much galavanting around the countryside.""Healer, mind your words." The warrior demanded in a curt tone. "He needs fresh bandages. He has started to bleed again!""I wonder why the hell he'd be doing that!" NcCoy responded in furious sarcasm in furious sarcasm. "God-damn it anyway! Whar a damfool stunt!" The two of them deposited Kirk back on his bed and McCoy took over settling his patiennt back against the pelts.""Cut it out, Sawbones. It's not his fault. I had to go, and I didn't see any bedpans handy."McCoy was busily cutting the bandages off and examining what damage had beed done. "If you would'a woke me up, we could'a figured something out." He shook his head at the fresh blood and started to re-wrap Kirk's chest with clean bandages. When he had finished he stood up and glowered at both Warrior and human. "Now stay put, for Pete's sake.""Yes, boss." Kirk replied rather sheepishly.Spock was standing by, frowning. When McCoy was finished with Kirk he motioned the Doctor to follow him, then left the tent. After they were a short distance from the camp, McCoy had panicked thoughts about the desert again. Why the devil couldn't he learn to keep his big mouth shut.Spock finally stopped and turned to face him. "Healer, I understand your reaction, but you are never to speak me in that voice again. Do you understand?""Yes, my Lord. But you scared me to death.""Quiet! Kneel to me slave!:"McCoy thought aabout it for a split second, then slowly got down on his knees.
Spock continued. :I said I understand, I do. You care about Jim. But you must never speak to me again like this. If you do I will personally flay the skin from your back and you can practice your skill on your own self.""Yes, Lord.""Do not mistake mistake my lenience for laxity. You are a slave. I am your master. Do you understand?" He looked at McCoy sternly. "If this outburst had occurred in a Warrior Encampment, I would be required to execute you myself. I cannot protect you against yourself." He paused and pointed towards the tent. "Now, go and tend Jim. And think long about what I have said.""Yes, Lord." McCoy got to his feet unsteadily and trrudged back to the campsite. He realized that he had gotten off lightly. He could have very well been dead right now, and no one, except maybe Kirk, would have cared. When he got back to the tent, Jim was waiting for him. "What happened?"McCoy shook his head. "Nothing.""Are you alright?""Yeah, he didn't touch me, just scared the shit out of me." He looked angrily at his patient. "You know better than to go out with a chest wound like that held together with horse hair and good wishes. Damn, Jim. I thought you'd died in the night.""I'm sorry, Sawbones. It's just that I hate being so helpless. We were real careful. Spock practically carried me the whole way. You know he wouldn't hurt me."McCoy shook his head. "Not intentionally maybe...but don't do that again!""All right, I'll be a good little boy for a few more days." He grinned coaxingly at McCoy. "Friends again?"McCoy shook his head. "You have to be, your my only one."Spock entered the tent looking calm again. "Was there any damage done?"McCoy bowed his head. "Not too bad, but there was some bleeding. "That I know." Spock sat down on the edge of Kirk's bed and frowned . "Healer, we are short of supplies. We had not intended to pause in our journey. We must continue on soon."McCoy took a deep breath and said. "Lord, if you put him on a horse he will bleed to death.""We can fix a litter for him so that he would not even have to sit upright. Would that be sufficient?""I guess it will have to be." He looked at the Vulcan. "How long is the journey?""No more that one, possibly two days depending on our progress." Spock stood up. "We will leave tomorrow morning. Be ready." He left the tent.McCoy sat down on his bed and put his head in his hands. "Now where are we going.""We're going to Spock's home. It's right outside of Shi'kar."McCoy looked at him with a frown. "That's where the caravan was headed. Is it a city?"Kirk shifted to try and get comfortable. "These bandages are too tight.""Youu're lucky to be able to complain about them." McCoy flopped back on his bed and covered his face with his hands.Kirk continued "Shi'Kar isn't a proper city. It's more like a meeting place in a little valley close to the house. Several tribes that are members of the same clan meet there. The Gathering is a big event that happens every five years. I've never been to one, so Spock was going to take me." He turned his head to look at McCoy. "We got side tracked when we saw the attack against your caravan and went to help."McCoy frowned at him. "And you saved us and you got hurt and here we are. One slave richer and two days late."Kirk smiled at him. "Yes, two days late and one friend richer.""Yep, the luck of the Irish at it's finest."Kirk chuckled and winced at the bandage. "Hey, Kirk is Irish too, you know."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Jok'eil looked into the tent. "Are you hungry in there?""Yes!" Jim answered. "I can smell it already."The boy smiled at them. "I'll bring you both some, after the Warriors of course."Kirk ginned at him. "Of course."Jok'sil motioned to McCoy and the two of them went out. Jok'eil to the cook-fire and McCoy to the stream to get some fresh water to wash Jim and himself. On the way back to the tent, he was met by Jok'eil with a bowl of porridge in his hands. "Here is Jim's. I have prepared his to his taste.""I'm sure it will be just fine." McCoy sniffed the brown colored porridge. "It smells just like my Mama's cornmeal mush." He got a look at the boy's face straight on and visually examined his darkened eye. "Say, what happened there?"The boy indicated his black eye. "You needent worry. All eat in this camp, even those in disfavor." He handed McCoy another bowl similarly flavored. "This is yours and mine is there." 'The doctor took it gratefully, then asked, "What happened?""Nothing to mention," the youngster waived at him. "Go now before it cools."McCoy took the food back to Jim, then sat down next to him to eat. Kirk was strong enough to feed himself in spite of his early morning trip outside. McCoy sat back and ate his own breakfast while making sure Jim finished his. After the meal, the doctor convinced his patient that a nap wouldn't hurt and might help. As Jim slept, he started planning what to do for the trip. It would be very hard on the injured man. He hoped the Warriors would realize it also. McCoy started gathering and preparing anything and everything he could think of for Jim benefit. What he culdn't find he invented: clean bandages, sterilized needles and the famous horsehair thread. He found a cooking container and put some more meat broth on to cook. He talked to Jok"eil and they found some plants by the oasis that was supposed to have heating properties, according to the boy. He figured it couldn't hurt. After compiling his medical kit, He went back to the camp. When not actually caring for Kirk, the Doctor tried to keep a low profile. He would help Jok'eil do the many camp chores. Spock and Satak for the most part ignored him. That afternoon, Satak left camp and was gone for several hours. When he returned he had two skins filled with water which he handed to the slaves "for the trip". Spock had stayed inside the tent with Jim while his friend was gone and didn't reappear til late evening. When he came out, he appeared drained of energy and very tired. Satak, sitting by the fire and eating the meal cooked by the two slaves. He shook his head at the other Vulcan. "Spock, you are too attached to that slave."Spock merely arched an eyebrow at the comment. "I want him to have enough strength for the journey, that's all.""It's un healthy, If I didn't know your ambition better, I'd think...no never mind. The idea is ludicrous."The other warrior looked over at him with a smile. "Most of you're are. That's why you ride with me.""Here, old friend. Many things can happen on the desert." Satak looked at Spock threateningly as long as he could manage, then broke into an answering smile. "But you are right. Your mind is wasted as a Warrior. You should be a Monk, locked up somewhere studying the text of the Ancestors not riding hither and yon in search of dangerous adventure."Spock stopped smiling and gazed into the fire. "Now you sound like AuntT'Kara. She always said this to my father. But he understood my longings to see the new sights and the only way off planet is as a mercenary." His gaze shifted from the flames to the stars. "I want to go there. I want to see new things, new peoples. I want to know more than what is held on the world of Vulcan." He shook his head and lay back onto the sand. "It is difficult to to explain."Satak looked at his friend with wonder. "You just did it very well. I have no such longings but you make me understand.""Then, perhaps you understand my interest in Jim and McCoy. They are representatives of people that came from another place, another star. They are not animals like the Green Orions, or similiar to us like the Pavans. They are different. There is much we can learn from them, from their civilization.""Perhaps that is true about McCoy, my friend, but your interest in Jim is different. I knew that when you wanted only him in your PonFarr and could not use anyone else. You love him.""I will not deny that to you, but I ask you not to speak of this. It could only bring harm to him.""And to you also." Satak looked grim. "Have no fear my friend, I would not bring harm to you or him in any fashion.""I know my friend." Spock stood up and dusted off his riding trousers. "But it is late and we should start early in the morning to reach Shi'Kar. I would like to feel the comfort of my bed beneath me before another night passes.""Again, you wisdom exceeds mine. old friend. The trip will be difficult with Jim injured and an untrained slave in tow." Satak rose. "Tomorrow morning we will strike the tents."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The next morning saw the flurry of busy preparation. McCoy and Jok'eil were set to packing the camp equipment while the two stronger Vulcans disassembled the tents and rolled them into surprisingly small bundles. Jim watched from a pile of blankets that had been placed in the meager shade of some small scrub trees.
After everything had been packed, the animals were brought up. The Paven boy showed McCoy the proper way to saddle the Vulcan war mounts. While they finished their task the two Warriors took the tent poles and made a travois-like sled. This was secured to Kirk's animal who accceped the contraption without complaint and seemed quite satisfied when Kirk took his place on the sled.Their pace was slow in deference to Kirk's injury . There was plenty of water since the waterskins had been filled at the oasis and the journey was not as hard on Jim as McCoy had expected. The flat desert floor didn't cause the injured man didn't show much discomfort. His horse seemed to pick the easiest path. But though Jim traveled well, McCoy was glad to see another clump of trees that caused a rest stop to be called. The doctor slipped off his place on the pack animal and went to check on his patient. "How's it going?"Jim managed a tired grin. "Harder than I thought. I'm glad we're almost there. And Captain has a sense of humor.""Captain?""My horse. He likes to find the holes.""Your horse has a sense of humor?" McCoy asked in disbelief."A little bit. I'm just tired."Spock joined them with his own mount following behind them."I too will be be glad to see the walls of my father's house. We will stay there until Jim regains his strength.""How much farther is it, Sir?""Only the length of this day. We will see it as we cross the next rise."Spock was as good as his word. As the horizon changed, they could see the huge estate sprawled out before them. From what McCoy could see, the house and the out-buildings covered at least twenty acres. As they approached the main gate of the compound the two Warriors closed ranks in front of their servants. When they got close to the iron-clad gates, the huge barrier opened before them. They were met by an older, greyer version of Spock. He was followed by a retinue of friends and family. They halted their mounts in front of them and Spock swung off his beast. He then dropped to one knee in front the older man. "Greetings, Sarek my father. I rejoice to find you well and whole."The older Vulcan put his hands on Spock's shoulders for a moment, then took his hand and raised him to his feet to stand in front of the group. "Greetings, Spock my son. Welcome home. I am surprised and gratified to receive you. I didn't expect you until after the Gathering.""That was indeed the plan, father, but we encountered some difficulty on the road. We happened upon some bandits attacking a caravan and prevented its destruction but Jim was seriously injured. We ask for shelter while he heals."Sarek looked behind his son and saw the litter. He crossed to Kirk and took in the pale face that showed his pain and weariness. He turned to Spock. "You must only ask, my son, and all that you require will be supplied. I regret that your loyal servant has taken hurt. As for your welcome, this as always is your home." The elder Vulcan looked at Satak. "You are also welcome in my house, Warrior. Stop and rest with us."Satak dismounted and bowed to his host. "The Lord Sarek is noted for his generosity. I thank you and accept your hospitality for the night." Sarek clapped his son on the back. "Well, enough of this politeness. Bid your servants to unpack and come inside from the heat.""Thank you, father. I must move Jim inside and out of the sun. His wound needs tending after the desert journey.""Of course, I shall instruct my healer to tend him.""That will not be necessary. My new servant is a trained healer of his people." McCoy had dismounted and come up to the travois to move Jim inside."Really, a human healer? Fascinating. I must know more of this slave.""Certainly father, but after he tends Jim." Spock nodded at McCoy to help Kirk. The doctor bent to help his patient up. Jim gave him a weak grin and tried to stand up. Spock saw his unsteadiness and walked to him and scooped him up in his arms. "Healer, gather your medicines and follow me." He bowed his head to his father. "Are my chambers unchanged, father.""Of course, why would they be otherwise." the older man looked at Jim kindly. "Go. Take care of your servant.""My thanks. I ask your pardon.""Go and settle him." Sarek waived him on. " Then we shall talk.""Thank you, father." He looked at McCoy. "Come, Leonard.""Yes, Sir." He followed the Warrior into the house.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The Warrior led the way with his burden, McCoy following with his basket.House servants scuttled ahead, opening large double doors to let them enter. Spock carried Jim through the large cathedal-like house with McCoy at his heels. Shortly, they reached a large suite of rooms. Another servant was there ahead of them to open the door, and then to go about opening windows and setting the room aright. Spock carried Jim into the chamber and deposited him gently onto a large bed. He arranged some pillows behind him and stepped back. "Now Leonard, take care of him. If you need anything, ask. It will be provided.""Yes Sir." McCoy brushed past the Vulcan and sat down on the bed's edge. He bent over and spoke softly to his patient. "Now, lets see what damage the trip did to this mess." He gently removed the bandages from the wound. "Hum," he muttered to himself. "Not too bad. I think what you need most is a good cleaning, a meal and a good night's sleep."Kirk grinned up at him. "I second the motion. I feel like I'm wearing a coat of Vulcan's Forge.""Indeed traveling on a sled had its advantages, but staying clean is is not one of them." The Vulcan said as he watch McCoy examine Kirk. “Can he have a bath?"McCoy pursed his lips and looked thoughtful "That would probably be pushing it, but I guess, if we're careful it should be okay." He glanced at Spock. "He'd feel better for it and it would help the bruising and to relax his muscles.""There is a bath area in the adjacent room. I will have it filled and treated with herbs that will ease him.""I guess it can't hurt. I'll get him ready." The doctor started to help him strip, gently supporting him as he sat up to remove the rest of his clothes.Spock called to the waiting servants and gave them instructions. They all left to do the preparation. McCoy helped his patient to his feet. "How are you doin', Jim? You've been awful quiet.""I'm just tired, Sawbones. I'm like the kid who did never talked until the ten, everything is just fine until now." He managed a small grimance. "That bath sounds good.""You're gonna be stiff and sore for a few days. This should make you feel better.""I think we hit every rock.""Captain has a bad sense of humor?""Yeah, that."Spock returned and saw Kirk's unsteady gait. He casually stripped his robes off, picked him up again and headed for the other room. "Do not worry so about your beast. He is being cared for, as you are.""Good" Kirk managed. "He's had a long trip too, and he's not used to pulling."Kirk lost the blanket half way to the bath. McCoy picked it up.

"Don't worry, Sawbones." Jim mumbled into Spock's shoulder. "I have no modesty left."McCoy picked it up and handed it off to one of the other servants.Spock glanced at McCoy. "Come.""Yes, Sir." He hurried behind them into a large room. The doctor was surprised at the facilities. It was a large room with opulent fixtures. The tub itself was the size of a small pool, and the water was steaming putting off a sweet odor. Kirk looked at the water and protested. "Spock I want to bathe not boil."The Vulcan stepped into the water with him. "The heat will be beneficial to your muscles, and it will release the powers of the herbs. It will feel good.""I'm not a lobster!""You are my thy'la." He leaned down into the water with Jim. "Enjoy it, that is my command."McCoy had followed him into the bathing room. feeling useless. "Leonard, come close. When I want you to leave I will tell you. Now help me with Jim." He indicated a pile of linens sitting on a stool. "Now hand me a cloth."The doctor hurried over and brought the items to the pool's edge. "I'm sorry, Sir.""Don't think. I want you here.""Yes, Sir." McCoy handed him the items. Kirk sat quietly, allowing Spock to gently bathe him. McCoy sat crosslegged on the side while the Vulcan washed Jim gently and thoroughly while supporting him with one hand and gently massaging the sore body. Jim relaxed into Spock's arms, trusting his master's strength. When the bathing reached the closed wound Spock motioned McCoy over. "Is it healing properly?""Yes,Sir. It looks to be doing good. Even the hot water hasn't bothered it.""Good." He stroked the human's forehead. "Are you hurting, Jim?""No, not now." The human answered drowsily. "This is the best I've felt in a week.""No doubt. It has not been one of your better weeks." Spock remarked drily. The human rolled slightly in his arms and smiled up at Spock. "That, my beautiful master, is an understatement.""You are embarrassing the doctor.""I don't care." Kirk purred."You are a shameless slave.""All too true, Master. You have broken me and made me love you.:McCoy was blushing redder the longer this went on. Spock looked at him with amusement. Then he looked down at the wet human head that was cradled on his shoulder. "I would like to test this revelation of yours, but I fear you would fall asleep on my best efforts. We shall postpone this until you recover enough to appreciate them fully." He stood up and pulled their patient up to stand beside him in the water. "Leonard, get more towels.""Yes Sir." The human went to the stack of the linens and retrieved two towels. He came back and put one around Kirk. Spock started drying him and finally handed him to McCoy. The Vulcan then started to dry himself. McCoy had sort of avoided looking at his nakedness but since his master didn't seem to care, the human watched the alien. The Warrior was the same height as himself, slimly built but with whipcord muscles. His body reflected his violent life. There were several old, healed scars and he was darkened by the sun. His body hair was black and trailed down his chest to the pubic area. The genitals were a copperish-green as were his nipples. Basically, he seemed similar to any other man McCoy had seen, with one major difference in design. The penis was crowned with double ridges instead of the normal human one. No so alien after all it seemed.Kirk seemed to be asleep on his feet when Spock had finished drying both of them. Once again the warrior simply picked up the human and carried him to the large bed. After Jim was comfortably tucked in, Spock turned to McCoy. "You may bathe." "Thank you, Sir. I need it.""Indeed." The Vulcan tilted his head to look closely at his slave. "My touching Jim seems to bother you. Why is that?""I'm just not used to some of the customs here, Sir." McCoy looked back without flinching. "I know I have a lot to learn. I'm trying to adjust but some are more difficult than others."Spock returned his look. "I understand but not everyone else will. You must learn to accept things without showing your feelings. Also, if any other member of the household tells you to do something, unless I have specifically forbidden it, you must comply. They have the right to punish any slave for disobedience.""Yes, Sir." McCoy nodded. "I understand.""Good. Now I must dress and go to my father. You stay here in these rooms and attend to Jim." Spock turned to go, but paused. "Go, bathe now. I must dress for my audience but I will wait for you to come back to him."McCoy turned and hastily headed for the tub.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Spock looked closely at Jim once more to assure himself that his lover was comfortable. Once satisfied, he began to find and put on his formal clothing. This audience was necessary but should not be difficult. Sarek was proud of his son's accomplishments. This welcome home was in truth, a celebration of both his safe return and his travels. And, this would be a good place for Jim to rest and recover. In a short while, McCoy came back in with a towel wrapped around his waist. Spock turned to look at him and raised an eyebrow as he looked at his new, now clean, servant. He motioned the human over. "It occurs to me that though I own you, I have not looked at you properly. Drop the towel."McCoy looked startled and hesitated for an instant, but he realized the futility of arguement of his present status. He let the cloth fall to the floor.Spock scrutinized him carefully, walking around the human, examining him from every angle. "How old are you?""Uh, forty two years old." McCoy was trying not to blush under the close inspection.""Are you older than Jim?""I think so Sir, though I'm not sure how old he is.""But you are not old?""No, I'm considered middle aged.""Jim is more attractive.""Yes, Sir." McCoy glanced at his sleeping friend. "But then, he more handsome than most.""It would seem so. I have not seen another so beautiful in the examples of humans I have looked upon. Spock walked over to a large window that looked out over the desert. He turned and indicated a stack of cloth folded on the floor of the closet. "Dress, and see that you keep him safe in my absence."McCoy picked up his towel. "Yes, Sir. I will."Spock went to where his lover lay sleeping and kissed him. He turned and strode from the room closing the door behind him. Jim smiled in his bed.The warrior retraced his steps down the familiar hallway and down the stairs. He approached the large wooden door of the family library. It had always been their meeting place, surrounded by the history of their family. His father was seated, as always, behind the huge ornate wooden desk. A boy child was standing on a bench reaching for a journal to give to Sarek. His father looked up as he entered the room. the boy clambered down to stand next to the elder. Sarek nodded his head in greeting to his son. "Be seated, Spock." He spoke indicating a straight back chair and leaned back in his own. "I hope you found what was needed.""Yes father, Jim is resting comfortably. I am pleased to be home again.""Faldren Spock! I know you. You would rather be off somewhere training for preparing for battle." The older Vulcan took the sting off his words with and indulgent smile. "You are here because a valued slave was injured and you need a place of safe shelter for him to heal. But I will not question fate. I will thank the gods for any reason to bring you home.""Thank you, father." Spock smiled back. His father hadn't teased him in years. The small boy shuffles his fee and looked up at Spock curiously. Sarek turned a fond look at the boy. "Spock, this is your son." He nudged the boy out from behind the desk.Spock looked down at the child in surprise. "Saren?" He knelt to get a better look at the child. "How old are you, my son?"The boy stood very straight and tall as he answered. "Nearly Six large suns old, Sir.""And so tall alread" He glanced at Sarek. "How long have you had him father?""Two years. As according to custom, T'Pring's family brought him to us when he was weaned. Your daughter should be brought in a few moons."Spock nodded at his father, then turned back to look at Saren. "But my son is here now, and he is a son to be proud of.""Indeed, he has your quick wit and intelligence and physically he is perfect.""His mother is a beauty. It was a fine match." Spock stood and nodded at the boy, who smiled shyly. Sarek touched the boy lightly and nodded his dismissal."She is still beautiful. It is almost a shame that you chose the way of the Warrior. If I had realized you had such stud potential I would have kept you to breed me more grandchildren." When Spock did not answer, Sarek continued with his teasing. "The girl child is also exceptional, as you could know.""I have heard, though I have not seen her." Spock gauged his father. "You would not have kept me from both of our ambitions. You too wanted to be a Warrior""Yes, but I could only make one beautiful baby for the clan. Now, I have contributed to the creation of three." He looked slyly at his son. "I don't suppose I could convince you to give me another.""You know I cannot. Once taken, the Warrior's Path cannot be strayed from."The older man sighed. "As well I know my son. But you must allow an old man his regrets." Sarek paused and look at his son thoughtfully. "Is Jim badly hurt?"Spock nodded. "The wound is severe, but my new slave is a skilled healer. It is because of him that Jim is still alive.""That is as you said, but he is Human is he not?""Yes, but McCoy is talented with his hands and resourceful with his mind."Sarek leaned back in his chair. "Do you plan to keep him?""Yes, I had thought to. Why father?""I knew you had wanted a castrate to serve you as a camp slave but a human...that seems such a waste.""Actually," Spock replied. "I am planing to keep him an entire. I don't think gelding is necessary in his case.""That could be considered dangerous by some." Sarek replied dryly."Perhaps, but I believe not." Spock paused thoughtfully. "I would like him to receive instruction from a Vulcan Healer. Leonard has expressed ignorance of Vulcan physiology. I feel it could be valuable to me and the Warriors in my Phalanx."His father looked at him curiously "It probably could be, but it could also be considered dangerous. That would teach him your vunerabilities. He could use that to injure you and your men as well as help.""I don't believe that is likely. McCoy had no way of knowing that he would have been rewarded for tending Jim, but he volunteered his aid.""Jim is human." Sarek said. "A fellow slave. You are Vulcan, a master and an enemy.""I am also his protector." Spock replied to his father's concern. "He is well aware what would happen to him it he no longer belonged to me. If he shows any sign of untrustworthyness, he will be sold.""Remember, my son, all humans are not like your Jim.""I know father." his son smiled. "I appreciate your concern.""In other words, mind the upkeep of your own holdings.""My Lord, that is not what I meant."Sarek smiled at his son. "Of course it is and rightly so. If you wish the slave trained, so be it. Sorrell can begin instructions with him at your own convenience.""Good, I thank you my father." The younger man turned to leave."Dinner will be at the temple evening hour, Spock. Will you need an attendant?"'No, Leonard will attend me, thank you. I will see you at the evening meal."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

When Spock entered the apartment, McCoy was standing at the large window looking out over the desert. Kirk was still asleep in the large bed. "Leonard, how is Jim?" "McCoy jumped in surprise. He had been daydreaming about trying to cross the furnace below. He had decided against it just when Spock had spoken. "Uh...Sir he's doing just fine. Been sleeping like a proverbial baby. No fever or restlessness at all.""That is good." The Vulcan crossed the room and looked down at Kirk. He turned to McCoy. "I have need of an attendent this evening at meal. You will accompany me tonight." He motioned the human to follow him to a large trunk in the corner. "Come with me and I will find suitable clothing."He followed the warrior over to the piece of furniture. Spock opened it and pulled out some garments. He handed them to McCoy who unfolded them to discover they were made of a silken material and a fairly revealing cut. He didn't realize how much so until he began to try them on. "Sir, is this all there is to this thing?""All your essential areas are covered, Leonard." The Vulcan commented as he watched him changed. "In fact, these are rather conservative in their cut.""Just what am I going to be doing?""You will be simply for decoration. A man of substance is always accompanied by a servant wheher one is needed or not. You will merely sit by me and do as you're told, keeping your mouth shut in the process." Spock looked at him thoughtfully. "Do you think you can do this?McCoy reddened under the implied slur. "I'll do my best, Sir.""See that you succeed. There will be comments made as to my possessing another human slave. Do not react to them. Do you understand?""Yes, Sir.""Very well, finish dressing and I will tend to Jim. ""Yes, Sir."A short while later Spock entered the large, lavish dining area with McCoy following him closely. A table was heavily laden with opulent dining ware and enough food to feed an army. It was surrounded by richly dressed Vulcans of various ages and genders. Each of them was accompanied by a slave of some sort. The slaves interested the McCoy most. They were various kinds of aliens. Some were blue, orange and along side one of the nobles was a downright gorgeous green woman. They reached Spock's place at the table next to his father, the Vulcan who had met them at the gate earlier. The Warrior sat down in a chair to the left of the elder. McCoy knelt on a silken pill that had been provided for him next to him Master's chair."What is this, Spock? Another human slave" A young richly dressed young Vulcan called out to Spock. He had the green slave girl next to him. "Do you use them up so quickly, cousin.""How kind of you to be concerned, Stonn." Spock responded to him graciously. "Jim has been injured in battle and this one was a gift by a grateful rescued merchant.""Nothing serious I hope Spock?" An older woman asked worriedly. "He is a beauty. It would be a shame for him to be disfigured.""Indeed my Aunt T'Kara, it would. But it is not too bad, though he did lose a lot of blood. He's now recovering nicely.""Well, you must take care of him, Spock." She shifted her gaze to look at McCoy. "Now, you must tell me about this pretty."Spock reached down and stroked his fingers through his hair carelessly. "Leonard is his name. He is quite talented with his hands.""T'Kara looked at the human with a gleam in her eyes. "I would place a wager on that"McCoy blushed a bright red under her scrutiny.Spock smiled at the woman, "I meant that he is a trained healer.""Really," Stonn interupted with a laugh. "I thought humans were only good for one thing.""Well, as usual cousin, you are wrong. They have many talents unlike your play-pretty there.""She knows her place and keeps to it." Stonn stroked her unruly mane with his hand. The green woman sensually rubbed her shoulder against her master's knee. Then she looked at Spock and smiled."If that is all you require from a companion then all happiness to you." Spock replied.Stonn looked at Spock suspiciously, unsure whether or not to take offense.T'Kara laughed smoothly to avert unpleasantries from occurring. "If this one is just a servant Spock, maybe you would lend him to me for a night." She smiled and toasted him with her goblet. "I would return him unharmed in the morning.""Why Aunt, are you so soon tired of your good Andor?" He indicated the blue antennaed alien by her side."As you will learn when you have grown a few years older, variety is the spice of a long-lived life." She smiled down at her slave then looked back at Mc"I'm not yet bored by Talen, but I've always liked humans."Spock smiled back agreeingly and glanced at McCoy as the meat course was served. He picked up a smaller plate next to his and put some of the meat on it then gave it to McCoy. "Eat this, do not rush, there will be more."  After about an hour of family talk and political discussions, Spock called on of the room's servant and asked for another plate to be brought , After it had been delivered the warrior carefully selected some choice foods and refilled his wine goblet. "Here, Leonard. Take this to Jim and see that he eats it. He still needs to regain his strength."McCoy gratefully go to his feed and took the dishes. "As you wish, Sir." He then left the dining room, glad for the relative peace of the hallway. He could hear Stonn's irritating tones protesting the spoiling of Spock's favorite and his master's cool reply that Jim was his to spoil and and that his cousin had no say in the matter. Yep, a real charming family. He was glad it wasn't his.McCoy pushed the door open to Spock's quarters and entered the sick room. Jim was awake and reading a book. He put it down on a table next to the bed. "How you doin' Jim?"He shifted closer to the bed's edge. "Hi, Bones, I'm bored." He looked hopefully at the plate. "Is that for me, I hope?""Yep, Boss gave it to me special just for you." McCoy put the plate down on the bed. handed him the forkish thing and sat the wine goblet down on the bed table. "And he was still paying for it when I left.""Oh, what do you mean?" Jim asked through a mouthful of food."Some guy named Stonn was razing him about him spoiling his slave.""Oh, him."Oh, so you know him.""I met him last time I was here. A real charmer.""And there was a lady who seemed concerned that you got hurt." McCoy watched him for a reaction."That must have been the Lady T'Kara." Jim looked pensive."Anyone you know well?" McCoy asked."Know well?" Kirk glanced at him to pick up his gist. Then it dawned on him. "You mean how well do I know her?" He shrugged. "She's Spock's aunt and she likes me. That's all." He put his plate down. "That's all it ever could be. You don't seem to get the whole picture. Neither Spock nor myself can touch a woman. He's a Warrior and I'm his bed slave."McCoy still looked blank."Okay," Kirk said. "The whole thing in a nutshell. Vulcan males go into a lusting time every so often. If they mate with women then they are drawn to women but since they don't take women to war, if a Warrior goes into Pon Farr he could die without her there. If they mate exclusively with men then they are drawn only to men and there's no problem. See?"What about kids?""Before they take their vows the men must sire two children. After that no more women." Jim grinned at the doctor. "That's where I come in. But since I serve a Warrior I can't be with a women either. It would set him off."
"So what's with the lady?""She likes me.""I gathered that." McCoy said drily."But she can't have me."McCoy looked thoughtful then handed Kirk the cup of wine. "What about me?" Kirk shrugged as he sipped the liquid. His friend continued. "She asked to borrow me.""Oh. Well you're alright since Spock doesn't sleep with you.""Thanks a lot."Kirk grinned at him archly. "Don't knock it until you try it, Bones. You might like Vulcan hospitality after all."McCoy looked distinctly uncomfortable.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Spock returned to his chambers from the family dinner. After McCoy had left, there had been more talk of family matters, his son's progress and the political climate in Shi-Karr. He had tried to pay attention to all the opinions and guesses of the rest of his family and to concentrate on his father's talk of Saren but his mind had returned to Jim.The human was still awake when Spock came into the room. He was in bed, propped up on some pillows still thmbing through a book. Kirk laid the volume down and smiled up at Spock. "I missed you. How was dinner?""Did you not eat what I sent you?" The Vulcan sat down on the bed next to him."I don't mean the food. I meant the conversation.""It was the usual news, interesting and informative. My son is progressing rapidly, the crops are bountiful and my cousin Stonn, whom you may remember from our last visit, is asking for T'Pring's hand in marriage when she gives my daughter to the family.""Is that good?"It is to be hoped for. I believe they are suited to one another.""Anything else?""Only that I missed you also." The Vulcan smiled gently at his lover, then kissed him lightly on the lips.Kirk slid his arms around Spock and returned the kiss deeply. When he pulled back he looked into his lover's eyes and said. "Prove it."Spock disengaged himself and sighed. "I cannot. I will injure you again.""No you won't. McCoy says he's taking the stitches out tomorrow." he lifted his right eyebrow. "The mind melds are working. I feel great. I'm almost healed.""You are not almost healed. The wound can easily be reopened.""We can be careful. Please, Spock. It's been too long." Kirk pulled the Vulcan down for a deep, hot kiss. "I need you. I burn with all the fires of Vulcan. You have lit them in me." He murmured against the Vulcan's mouth."Jim, you are a wizard to control me so." The Warrior kissed his mate again and slid his hand down the human's chest, being careful to avoid the wound. His fingers traveled of their own accord down the flat belly and fondled the genitals as they stiffened to his touch. His hungry mouth grazed across the soft lips of his prey and traveled to the round ears. His tongue circled them then moved to the cool mouth. After a complete exploration there he moved on to nibble at the strong column of his mate's throat.Kirk responded by his hands seeking the opening of Spock's tunic. He tore at the constricting buttons and finally succeeded on baring the chest with its soft mat of dark hair. Spock stopped his exploration to open his shirt and to pull down the sheet that separated them. This accomplished, he tasted the rosy nipples that hardened to meet his tongue. He sucked harder and Jim groaned as Spock's hands touched his bared sensativities. Kirk's hips bucked forwards with uncontrolable lust as he searched for the promised pleasure.Spock shifted his weight and leaned down to fondle to exposed genitals with his hands. Cupping the soft sac, he explored it tenderly. Then he slid his warm hand to the poised, stiffened cock and genlty caressed it, sliding up and down with a slight pressure. Kirk arched his back again and groaned. Spock stopped and looked at his human's face. "Does your wound hurt?""No, no, please, go on. It's wonderful, don't stop." The human sought the Vulcan with his hands and pushed him down again. The Vulcan acquiesed and began to stroke Kirk again, adding more pressure and finesse. Kirk arched again and moaned with mounting desire. Spock lowered his mouth to the pleading groin and blew upon the cock gently, then began to lick up the shift continuing the stroking motion. "Oh, Spock, that's fantastic." The human surged against Spock's mouth and reached to entwine his fingers into the black, silken hair. The hotter-than-human-mouth took him completely and Kirk cried out as the sucking began. The Warrior continued ruthlessly as his mate lost control and bucked helplessly in his grip. The Vulcan hands lifted him and a hot, strong finger entered him as he lay on the altar of his own lust. Finally, Kirk felt himself thrown over the edge of sanity as he orgasmed into Spock's waiting mouth. He lay exhaused, the tremors of his body finally stilling themselves as he looked up into his lover's face.Spock was still unsatisfied but unwilling to risk injuring Kirk. The human smiled at him and nodded, "It's okay. Please...you haven't hurt me yet and you won't. Come in me."Spock was unable to answer him, but he rose from the bed and removed his trousers. The green cock was ready and in need of relief, and only one thing could give it. Gently and slowly, afraid of injuring his lover, Sock positioned himself below the human at the foot of the bed. He carefully, slowly lifted and separated the human's legs and slid between them. He search gently with his fingers inserting first one, then two into the anal passage. He rotated them, allowing the muscles to expand to accept him. When they relaxed, he removed them and spat upon his hands. Spock spread it on his cock with the natural lubricant that had formed already. Slowly, watching Jim's face for any sign of discomfort, he lifted his lover's legs over his shoulders and then slowly pressed his hardness against the waiting opening.Jim had been waiting, watching, and with his master's hesitance in mind, the human surged against him, impaling himself upon the engorged organ. Spock gasped at the unexpected action, throwing his head back and closing his eyes trying to maintain control. But Jim had other plans. He pushed again, tighteing his muscles to increase the pressure. There was no pain and he fiercely wanted Spock to enjoy his taking. Now. It had been too long for both of them. The Vulcan's control was all but gone. The started moving within the human's accepting body. He knew he couldn't take his mate in his usual position and he was trying to keep from reopening the wound that was almost healed. But this he could have. He started to thrust into the body before him and his mind flowed out into the link that two Warriors could share, the forbidden link that must never be found out. The two moved as one and Spock the Warrior sought out his true mate and he found his mate worthy. He reached Kirk's mind and they peaked together and they cried out in the ancient wordless song of passion.Spent, Spock gently removed himself from his mate's body, lying down and gathering the limp, totally relaxed body against himself. "Are you all right? Did I hurt you?"Of course not, silly Vulcan." Jim murmured sleepily into Spock's chest. "You can't hurt me, only love me.""That's not quite true, but I am pleased that you are still intact.""Shut up and let me sleep." Jim cuddled up against the hard body of his lover. "Hold me." He commanded.Spock settled his arm protectively across the human. "You are mine, for ever and for all."Jim nuzzled the furry chest. "For always."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

McCoy left the doorway that led into his small closet. He hadn't meant to evesdrop on the two but he had been awakened by sounds coming from the bedroom. When he had seen it was Spock and Jim locked in passionate lovemaking his first thought was of leaving. Though he knew they were lovers, he had not quite realized it fully until then. Seeing the writhing truth before him, McCoy had been unable to tear himself away. It was all Jim had said, Lovers. Fully and completely. It was one thing to be told, it was quite another to witness it. He was more than a little shaken. He was also quite aroused. He had not had any sex in a long time, even before his capture. McCoy's wife had divorced him the summmer before on Earth. That has been the reason for his volunteering for the post on Luna. "This is really the pits." McCoy though grumpily to himself as he lay on his pile of blankets. It wasn't that he wanted to be a pleasure slave but doggone it, was the alternative total abstinance? Well, if the only other choice was a Vulcan male maybe all that was left was masturbation. In spite of Jim's example, he was not willing to change his sexual preference with forceable pressure. He was a lover of ladies all his life, unfortunately there didn't seem to be any available. So, he seemed to be just out of luck entirely. Well it wasn't as if he hadn't ridden his own horse before, his good right hand would just have to do.The next morning McCoy awoke to find the sun pouring down on his bed of furs. He got up and dressed, then went to check on Jim. The patient was propped up on pillows and eating breakfast in bed. Spock was gone."Good morning, sleepy-head." Jim smiled over his tray. "I won't ask if you slept well.""I guess you don't have too." McCoy scratched his head and sat down on the bed next to Jim. "And how are you this morning?""Fine, fit and impatient. Are you going to take my stitches out today?""After you finish eating I'll take a look at them. No promises though.""C'mon 'Bones, give me a break. I told Spock that you said I was ready."McCoy grimaced. "I know, I heard you."Jim looked at him and blushed an interesting shade of pink. "How much did you hear?""More than you probably wanted me to."Kirk shrugged. "As I said recently, modesty dies an early death when you're a bed slave."Well, I do apologise. I didn't mean to listen in.""No problem," Kirk grinned up at him. "But now you know why I want to recover as fast as I can."McCoy smiled back. "I know but if we push it, you'll be worse off than you are now and I'll be gelded or dead. I do have to admit though, you're healing very quickly." He cocked at head at the younger man. "Do these melds have a effect on it?""Oh, you heard that.""Yep. And I'm guessing I need to keep mum about it.""Well, let's just say it doesn't hurt the process." Kirk pushed the tray from his lap and McCoy took it from him. "And yeah, you really do have to keep quiet about it or we'll all be in very serious trouble." He then smiled at his friend, "And Aunt T'Kara might have other plans for you."McCoy spent some time straightening up the rooms and getting ready for whatever came next. After a while, the door opened and Spock entered with another older, distinguished Vulcan wearing a long yellow robe. The newcomer looked down at Kirk. "Greetings, Spock's Jim. I hope you are feeling better.""Thank you for you kind thoughts, Master Sorrell. I am, thank you." Jim bowed his head and McCoy got up and was about to leave when Spock motioned for him to stay beside the bed."I am much interested to see your wound. Your master, Spock, tells me this new slave is very talented with the medicinal arts.""Jim would have been dead on Vulcan's Forge without Leonard's skill." Spock answered the healer. The older Vulcan pulled the cover off the human's injured chest and inspected the tight bandages. Then he moved back and motioned to McCoy. "Remove the bindings so that I may see the wound."McCoy gently cut the bandages off, layer and layer, until the wound was exposed. He moved back to let the other inspect his work."Fascinating! What is this that you used for the stitching?""Sir, I used a sewing needle and the tail hairs from the beasts of burden. The hair had been boiled in water and a little oil added for smoothness of application. Of course I probed to ensure all of the arrow head chips and wood splinters had been removed.""And the bleeding stopped, just by tying the edges of the wounds together?""Yes, Sir.""And you did not apply heat?" "Heat?" McCoy looked puzzled for a moment. "Oh, you mean cauterization? No, it wasn't necessary for this. Often that can do more damage to the wound by burning the exposed tissues."The older physician frowned and indicated the stitches. "Do these remain?" "No Sir. In fact, they are probably ready to come out. I was going to check on them today.""Do so. I will observe." The Vulcan watched the human doctor for his reaction.McCoy glanced at Spock then Jim. He took a deep breath. "Okay, Jim. Looks like you're gonna get your wish."Kirk looked at him confidently. "You're the doctor."McCoy looked to Spock. "Sir, may I have your dagger?" Spock calmly handed the sharp weapon to him and his eyes met with the human physician who acknowledged his responsibility with a nod. Then he turned back to his patient. He sat down next to Jim on the bed. Gently he probed at the newly healed flesh with his fingers, running down the seam to check the skin adhesian to itself. Everything looked good. He decided to start at the top of the wound. The sharp knife slid under the strand and it separated easily. He grasped the end of the hair and pulled gently and it slipped from the skin. So far so good. He looked up at Kirk's expression, no trace of pain. He removed three more knots then noticed a clear drop of plasma form on the fused skin. He stopped. "Hurt?"Jim had tensed under his hand. "A pinch."McCoy and straightened up. "That's all then. You're not quite finished yet." He looked at Sorrell. "You see why I stopped?""Yes, the flesh is not sealed together.""Uh huh. I've got to leave the rest until he heals some more." McCoy looked at the worried Spock as he handed back the knife. "Sorry, Sir.""No matter, it is better to safe." He smiled down at his human. "We are perhaps a bit anxious." He looked at his physician. "How long?"McCoy shook his head as he continued to rebandage the wound. "Another couple of days. Not long.""Good." He turned back to the other physician. "What do you think, Master Sorrell?"The healer straightened his robe and raised an eyebrow. "I must admit, I have not seen anything like this before. But these are humans. Nothing says that what will work on them will work on Vulcans.""That is true, Healer. That is why I want Leonard to learn about the Vulcan physiology so that he can treat all injuries. A slave skilled in this is extremely valuable to a Warrior and his fighting band.""Logical, as always, Spock. Very well, I will instruct your slave, McCoy, in Vulcan medical techniques." He nodded at the human. "Perhaps it will be to our mutual advantage."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

That afternoon McCoy's training began in Vulcan Medicine. It was the most fun he'd had in years. though It had still quite proved quite primitive. The theory of sacred flesh had held them back for centuries. It had never occured the Vulcan practicioners to 'stitch and sew like a piece of cloth'. The evil that was inherent in a wound needed to be burnt out to kill the poison, hence the use of cauterization. McCoy also discovered that transfusions were never used. There was no way of typing Vulcan blood. That was the first thing on his agenda. He had no plans to let Spock die from a loss of blood and screw up things for him. This life wasn't perfect but it was still better than the alternative life style of being a bed slave to somebody. The human began to be considered as a sort of a mad scientist as he poked holes in everyone he was allowed to and tried to find the correct chemicals to use in typing copper-based blood. Luckily he did discover that both he and Jim had O positive so he could demonstrate that it could be done, at least with humans. Kirk had assured Spock that he was in no danger and the Warrior had finally accepted McCoy as a real doctor. It had made his life considerably easier. After about a week McCoy was given permission to treat all the slaves in the compound while under Sorrell's watchful eyes. That and taking care of Kirk, which was still his first responsibility, took up a lot of time. But the chance to treat other species he viewed as an opportunity to prove himself and some of the medical theories that McCoy had learned previously before his capture.Unexpectedly, about two weeks after McCoy had begun his practice of the people of Shi-Karr, an opportunity came. Two of the young guardsmen had been practicing their sparing with their had weapons in the yard when a lance shattered. The arm was ripped wide open exposing muscles and tendons. Sorrell had gone into the city on personal business and the treatment of such a wound couldn't wait. McCoy was called in to do what he could. The Human doctor was gad for this opportunity for more than one reason. It not only allowed him to prove himself on a Vulcan, but more importantly, to burn this wound closed would have permanently disabled a skilled young man.McCoy cleared off the table in Spock's quarters then spread a sheet on it. Then he called for alcohol, which came in the form of an absolutely undrinkable beverage, sterile needles and twine. He carefully cleaned the wound with the liquid the allowed the patient to finish the bottle for its anasthetic properties. After the bottle was empty and the young guardsman literally feeling no pain, the doctor began his surgery. No ligaments were torn but the muscles were completely exposed. McCoy began the long careful chore of rejoining the flesh and skin so no mobility would be lost after it healed. After he finished, McCoy carefully wrapped the arm in clean bandages and had the patient put to bed in a private room Spock had located.Later that evening, after McCoy had cleaned himself up and was resting in his closet. A quiet tap on the suite's door brought Spock to his feet and he answered it revealing his father. The younger Vulcan greeted him and offered him a chair and a goblet of wine."Thank you, my son." Sarek glanced at the bedroom area. "How is Jim?""Almost fully recovered, though still weak.""Naturally, it will take a long while to recover from so serious a wound.""And how is Stavo?" Spock asked, referring to the injured guardsman."He is one of the happiest wounded men I have ever seen, though I fear his head will hurt more than his arm in the morning." Sarek chuckled as he accepted more wine from his son."That is a strong possibility." as he sat down and sipped from his own glass."Where is McCoy now?""He is either resting in his room or checking on Jim. We have started exercising, and he is concerned that we do not reopen the wound."Sarek put down his cup. "Sorrell is angry that McCoy was allowed to treat a Vulcan in his absence." "I am sorry that he feels so. The boy was in no danger.""I do not believe that is what Sorrell was angry about. I fear my old friend is jealouse of your skilled slave.""Well, you may inform Sorrell that McCoy will be leaving soon with us and the only Vulcan he will practice medicine on will be me, and possibly one of my war band if absolutely necessary.""That is part of what we are concerned about. We are both worried about his experimentation with the blood.""Worried? Why?""I am familiar with the technique and I have seen men die from it.""McCoy says that all blood is not the same and that if he can learn to distinguish one type from another there is no danger.""McCoy." Sarek shook his head. "Remember my son, for all his skill, is an inferior species. You cannot believe that he can know more of this than Vulcan healers do."Spock frowned. "He had proven himself to my satisfaction."Sarek leaned forward leaned forwad, placing his cup on the table. "He has only proven a new technique that goes against the very basis of Vulcan medicine.""And he has proven it successfully." The young Warrior smiled at his father. "There is no need for concern, Sire. McCoy will not harm me. For his own good he knows that it's to his advantage to keep me alive.""I do not like it.""Do not worry, father.""It is for your benefit I do. These experiments may be a danger to you.""Very well, I will consider your words. But I feel you are over-reacting."The elder Vulcan rose. "Consider them well, my son. For now I must go and ease Sorrell's feelings." He paused for a moment at the door and looked back. "One day, you will understand.""Possibly, my father, but I do not now.""Good rest, my Son.""Good rest, my father." Spock closed the door behind Sarek. He then crossed to the bed chamber. His two humans were sitting on the bed waiting for him.
Obviously they had heard everything.Sir, I don't understand what I have done wrong to upset your father so." McCoy said slowly.Spock frowned and crossed to sit in a chair next to the bed. "I don't either, Leonard. Sarek can understand the value of your skill for curing a wound, but he refuses to see the importance of the blood.""Spock, is it some belief that we don't know about?" Kirk asked."No, there is nothing. It must be something else. But we will be leaving soon. Sarek's opinion of humans practicing medicine will make no difference on the War Trail.""Thank goodness for that." McCoy breathed a sigh of relief.Spock smiled at the time. "Besides, your skill enhances your monetary value. Should I grow tired of you I can always sell you as a pleasure slave and a healer.""Don't you worry about that. I can guarentee the best service this side of Atlanta, with real good bedside manners too.""Very well, I shall remember." Spock sat back and relaxed in his chair. "It is interesting that you mentioned bed side manners. Several evenings ago, my Aunt T'Kara accosted me in the hall and requested that I lend you to her for an evening, for her entertainment. Since she has been kind to me all of my life and supported me through difficult times, I have agreed."McCoy looked blank for a second, then a look of panic crossed his face. "You lent me to her! What am I gonna do?""I thought you had said you were married." Spock looked confused. "You will keep her pleasantly occupied for the night. If you don't know what to do, she will teach you. I'm sure between the two of you, you will think of something." He smiled at McCoy's expression. "What do you think your father's gonna say to this. He don't like me to treat you medically and now you want me to keep his sister entertained. You won't have to worry about castrating me, he'll cut my throat!"Spock leaned forward. "No, he will not. T'Kara can handle my father. She's been doing it for years."He shook his head. "It's not that you don't want to please her is it, or me by pleasing her?""Well," McCoy drawled. "It's not that exactly. I mean she's a handsome enough woman, but....""But what, Bones?""Never mind, it's not important.Spock looked at both and said emphatically. "It is important. Aunt T'Kara is a very powerful member of our clan. You must not offend you under any circumstances. Do you understand?"McCoy looked down at the floor. "Yes Sir. I understand."Is there some difficulty?" Spock asked."Well, it's just that...no never mind.""McCoy, ordinarily I cannot make you be silent. Now you will not speak. T'Kara is waiting. What is the problem?"McCoy shifted uneasily under his master's gaze. "It's just that...I'm not sure I can play whore to a Vulcan woman, no matter who she is.""My god, Bones." Kirk burst out. "Haven't you ever gone to bed with a woman you didn't love before?""The problem is that I knew them, wanted them. But I don't want this. I'm not even sure I can get it up like this." He glared at them. "There! I said it. That's the problem.""You can." Spock said. "And you will. Or..." The unspoken threat hung heavily in the room.McCoy glanced at the adament Vulcan then to Kirk's concerned face. He realized that failure would not be tolerated. McCoy finally answered his Master. "Yes Sir. I'll do my damnest." Then he muttered under his breath. "No pressure or anything."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Later that evening, after the last meal, when the shadows had lengthened McCoy found himself standing in front of a strange door on the other end of the large compound. He was dressed in one of Jim's most seductive bed robes. It was an Ivory colored silky material and it clung to his body like a living thing. At least his stay on Vulcan had hardened his body to a shape that looked good in the outfit. He hadn't looked this in years. Even Spock had commented on it. Jim just grinned at him as he left.He stood there a minute to harden his resolve, then knocked lightly on the door. He heard some rustling through the door and some indistinct woman's voices. In a second a young Paven slave girl opened the door. She smiled at him then left, closing the door behind her.Leonard stepped into a luxurious bed-chamber. T'Kara was seated at a large vanity combing her long black hair. McCoy noticed a few strands of silver in it. The Vulcaness turned to face him and he could tell he was being inspected. So he returned the favor. She was tall, maybe an inch or so shorter than himself. Her hair, other than the grey, was as ebony black as Spocks. She was slender and her face, if not beautiful had the handsomeness of her race. Her acquilline features were unmarked by time and the arching eyebrows drew attention to her deep umber colored eyes. She smiled at him and motioned for him to come closer. "Enter handsome one. I'm not generally considered predatory."He approached her. She reached out to touch his belly. "Nothing to say?""Honestly Ma'am, I don't know what it would be."She leaned back and laughed. "Honesty is not what I expected, but I will take it. It's certainly rare enough." T'Kara shook her head. "Let's try it from both directions. You do know why you're here, yes?""Yes, Ma'am. You borrowed me.""Very true. Did you want to come?""Well," How did he answer that? "I didn't not want to, but I've never been with a Vulcan Lady before."She looked at him thoughtfully. "A Vulcan Warrior perhaps? Do you prefer males?""Uh, no." he answered hastily, blushing. "I've never been with any Vulcan."That piqued her curiosity. "What a wonderous shade of red. What does it mean?""I'm embarressed. I'm sorry.""But why? Who was the last person you had sexual congress with? Was it Spock or perhaps, Jim?"Well, she had wanted honesty. "No, Ma'am. It was my ex-wife. Then we divorced a couple of years ago and, well, I just didn't want to.""Years? You weren't taken when you were captured?"McCoy shook his head and took a deep breath. "The man who bought me was a slave trader. He was taking me to a Gathering. He didn't want his purchases touched."T'Kara looked at him for a moment. "Don't you find abstinance for so long uncomfortable?"McCoy managed as smile. "There have been moments, yes Ma'am."Then your discomfiture will soon be remedied." She stood up and was right next to him. "I think it will work out nicely." She laughed throatily at his expression. "What's the matter, Sweet? Don't worry, it won't hurt a bit."He ducked his head. "It's not that. I just don't know what's expected of me, and I don't want to....""Overstep you bounds?" She put her hand on his cheek and ran her hand down his throat and onto his chest. "Well, this first time you just do as I tell you, but all you really have to do is pleasure the both of us. I don't think that will be too hard." She unfastened his sash and pushed the shirt off his chest. She ran her hand up his arm and murmured. "Unlike some other things."When she touched him he felt something like a spark pass between them. He shivered under her hand."But first, we must observe the amenities," She led him into the next room that held the bathing facilities. "You must join me in the bath." She stepped away from him and dropped her robe. Turning to face him she indicated a shelf with combs. "Help me put my hair up." She commanded as she caught her black mane in both hands and twisted it into a knot. "Come, Leonard. The water is getting cold."McCoy picked up some clips and came closer. T'Kara smiled at him as he put his arms around her to fasten them in her hair. His chest hair brushed her breasts and felt a tingle that grew and went straight to his groin. "Ma'am, what do you want?""Isn't it obvious? She smiled at him. "I want you little one.""Uh, yes Ma'am."She sighed. "I'm not so ugly, am I?No, no. You're beautiful. I'm just...."Very well. I will give you explicit instructions. First, finish with my hair." He finally got the clips in place, then dropped his arms by his sides. "Now, come with me." She turned and motioned him to follow. She led him around a wall divider at the end of the room. There was a bathing pool with steaming water waiting for them. She stepped in up to her waist in the water and turned to face him. "Get undressed." It was a command given in a velvet voice and he let his garments slid to the floor. "Now, enter the water."He stepped in the water, it was hot but not uncomfortable.T'Kara motioned him closer then turned away from him. "There is a sponge. Wash me."McCoy saw it floating at her side and he retrieved it. Then he began rubbing her back with it."Harder, little one, that is my favorite spot." She turned to face him. "Now, do my front." He hesitated then began again. "Harder, you cannot hurt me with a sponge." she purred. He applied more pressure and as he did she stepped closer so that they touched slightly. "That's good." she murmured and stepped towards him. "That's very good." He was unable to continue, his hand being trapped between her breasts. She smiled at him and kissed him fully on the lips. "Now, don't move or I'll be angry." she murmured to his mouth. The Vulcaness smiled again, then licked him on the nose. She then moved around him, sliding her body next to his. He stood like a statue, with his eyes closed. "McCoy...Leonard.' she breathed into his ear. "Why are you so afraid of your own body? I won't hurt you. Quite the contrary, I want you in the best of ways. Why do you fight me so?"She moved to his back and ran her hand up his arm and across his shoulders. T'Kara continued her trip and as she passed his other ear she blew into it and bit it lightly. "I only want us to have pleasure, little one. I like you or you wouldn't be here. Relax."McCoy could feel her directly in front of him again. He stubbornly kept his eyes shut. She kissed him again and fondled his genitals. He could feel himself getting hard. "Poor body, so starved for affection. Your owner does not give you a chance for love because he is afraid of himself. I could give you so much and you could give to me in return."McCoy's breathing had become ragged. Her warmer than human hands were fondling him seductively. Her could feel her breath on his mouth and cheeks. She moved up against him and reached around to rub his ass and trace the crevice between his cheeks. Without his permission his hands moved up to her breasts. His cock was now stiff beneath her knowing hands and he couldn't help himself. All he could do was stand there. Finally, T'Kara stopped her gentle exploration of his body and and stepped back to look at his reactions. He was breathing heavily, his face was still flushed and his cock was fully erect despite his attempted resistence. "Open your eyes," she commanded. "Look upon me human." He did as he was instructed. "Am I not fair to look upon?"He managed a raspy reply. "Yes, Ma'am. Very beautiful.""Then why do you resist?" She asked seductively, reaching out to touch his chest with her fingertips. "Tell me little one, why?""It's not right." He managed to say. "People shouldn't own one another.""That, little one, is only true on your world." T'Kara watched him carefully. "Do you want to die for such words?"No, Ma'am." He almost sobbed. "But I don't know how to live here.""Then come to me and I'll show you how. Come to me as a man...not a slave." She reached for his hand. "You are too beautiful, and it is right that we should share this night." She led him out of the pool and into the bedroom. The Vulcaness led him to the large silken ben and pushed him down into a sitting position. "Now, show me you are a man and worthy of my desires." She sat next to him and kissed him. Slowly, cautiously, McCoy reached for her. He pushed her back on the silken surface and looked full into her face. "If you as me for a man, I'll give you my best. Just let me be a man to prove it.""Show me that man."He kissed her, lightly at first then deeply. They moved up on the cushions and he rolled on top. His maleness searched for her almost by instinct. She arched back against him, clasping his body to hers, luxuriating in his rough hair against her sensitive breasts. As he entered her, she gave a little cry of passion and delight. When he heard her, it drove him on. She didn't want a slave, she wanted him. For some reason, she didn't want anybody else right now, just him. And by God, he was going to prove just who and what he was made of. That he wasn't just a piece of meat. He would make sure she would remember him.He pumped strongly into her welcoming body, enjoying to warm womaness of her. The smell, the feel, the taste of a lusting woman was a tonic. It had been too long and his body drove him onward. Finally, she arched into him, crying out her orgasm and he followed quickly into her passion. They lay there a long time, just a man and woman, not slave and mistress. Finally, T'Kara rolled towards him on her side and reached over to his forehead to push the damp curls off his face. She smiled at him playfully. "It seems that there is more to humans than meets the eye, Leonard. You continue to interest me."He looked at her with a smile. "I'm glad." He replied honestly. "I guess I understimated both of us.""Indeed, I am well pleased." She continued to stroke his face. He reached up to grasp it gently and kissed it. "It's good to know I can still please a woman."You didn't want to join me did you?""No, I didn't." He replied honestly. "I guess I just didn't want to be treated like a piece of meat available for the asking."T'Kara looked at him reprovingly then took his hand and bit his fingers gently. "You do not taste like meat. I don't usually take one to bed. Usually there is more than just a passing fancy before I invite you to my bedchamber. Though I do understand your distaste." She said gently. "It must be difficult to have been born free then captured and sold into slavery.""More than you can ever know." He kissed her again then rolled over to look at the ceiling. "But to be perfectly honest, I could have done a lot worse than to be given to Spock. He's a good man and he cares a lot for Jim.""He has always been excptional, even as a child. But he is a Warrior now and the life he leads is hard on him and his servants.McCoy nodded. "I know that, but he and Jim seem to have managed, other than that nasty wound."Jim is as exceptional as Spock though, don't you agree?""That's for sure. He and Spock were lucky to find each other. As I am to find you" She chuckled low in her throat. "Come Leonard, show me again how remarkable you are.""Sorry, I got distracted" He shrugged his shoulders and reached to pull her on top of him then he kissed her.She smiled down at him and nipped him on the chin. Then she sat up on him, her hands playing with his nipples. "Come, show me again of you talents.."He lifted his hips. "I think I can."She felt his erection moving towards her opening as she moved down on him. "Why, I think you can too." She threw her head back and laughed. "Yes, I know you can. Show me how remarkable you really are."He smiled up at her. "Ah, yes. I know I can too. You're gonna spoil me.""Nonsense, I'm only using you to the full extent of your capabilities." she pulled his head down for a kiss. "Show me again the man you are.""Okay." He said, then lost himself in her body. "Indeed." Was the last thing he heard.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The next morning, McCoy woke up and had to think a moment to place himself. This was not his pallet in Spock's quarters. He lay there a minute staring at the patterned ceiling, then he realized where he actually was. The warm weight to his left moved and an arm circled his waist. He turned to smile at T'Kara."Well, I was beginning to wonder if I had worn you out last night."He smiled at her. "You did. I'm kinda outta shape for that particular exercise.""Nonsense, you seemed quite the athlete." She moved her hand down his belly to fondle his limp organ. "Now, however, you do seem quite exhausted."He rolled over to face her. "You keep that up and I may make a startling recovery.""Ordinarily, I would be quite enthusiastic about such an occurance, but I'm afraid I cannot take advantage of you this morning." Smiling at his curious expression she continued. "It is late, and I must appear as a model matron for the family, not some wanton with a penchant for exotics.""I don't think either of us deserves those titles, my lady.""No, she moved her hand up to touch his cheek. "No, you are quite right. But I'm afraid that these games must be played for everyone's satisfaction." She stopped her caresses and slipped out of the large bed. "Leonard, I want you to come back to me this evening, but I won't force you.""You forced me to come last night." He sat up in the bed and watched her as she left the bed to reach for her clothing."That's true, but now that we've lain together, if you still find me distasteful I won't insist.""Why?" he ask curiously. "What difference does it make?""Leonard, I have known several humans in my life and they have all fascinated me. But Amanda was female and though she was a friend to both my sister and myself I have no interest in a physical joining with another woman. James is quite beautiful, but he is the bed-mate of a Warrior and cannot be touched by a woman. You on the other hand, my sweet, were available. I could not resist the temptation of your beauty." She paused and looked at him wistfully. "But, I do not enjoy unwilling bed partners. If you cannot come for pleasure then I won't insist on your return." T'Kara looked at him seriously. "Will you come of your own free will?"McCoy looked at her and noticed a light greenish flush to her cheeks. He nodded slowly. "I didn't think I could ever feel like this again." He said quietly. "But, yes. I'd like to back to you tonight."She smiled shyly at him. "Very well then. I will ask Spock." She pulled her silken robe on. "He will not deny us."McCoy got out of bed to stand beside her. "I don't see how he could."She laughed softly and kissed him on the mouth. "He's my nephew after all. I can't use the same methods of persuasion on him as I do on you." She turned towards the bath. "Now come help me dress and then you must go, or we'll never leave these rooms." A short time later, McCoy quietly pushed the door to Spock's quarters open. He tried to sneak over to his sleeping area without waking Jim. He didn't succeed."Are you all right?" Kirk asked quietly.""Of course I'm all right." McCoy sighed. "Why shouldn't I be?""Well, you were kind of nervous last night and you didn't come back, until now. We were worried. Did it go all right?"The doctor turned to his friend. "Yeah, it's all okay. She wants me to come back tonight.""That's super, you old devil you. And you were worried." Kirk grinned with relief. "I knew you could do it!""No, you didn't or you wouldn't have asked." McCoy smiled back at him. "Seriously, I was worried. But there was no problem. She's quite a lady after all, just plumb wore me out.""Tonight, huh.""Yeah, do you think Spock will mind?""I don't see why he should. At least now he'll know you have normal fixations and won't worry about us.""Yeah, you can tell him you're definitely not my type.""I will." Kirk smiled at him as he crawled into his blankets for more sleep. "I'm sure he was real worried about you.""Not the way you look at him, I'm sure." McCoy replied, his voice muffled by the covers. "Now, let me get some rest."Later that day, Spock came back to the apartment. Jim and Leonard both woke from their napping. "Well, McCoy, you have proven once again you are good for several things." The Vulcan commented.McCoy looked at his master while grinning from the bed. "Thanks a lot for the vote of confidence. Were you worried?"Spock smiled at his two humans. He was in an excellent mood. "I'm surely was, my cocky slaves."McCoy crawled out of his bed and sat up with a confused look. "Sir, I don't understand. What did I do?"Spock sat down in an armchair and put his feet up on the matching hassock. McCoy went over and got his master a glass of wine. He nodded at the human. "The young guardsman that you treated is already up and walking. Sorrell is impressed in spite of himself. And," He lifted the glass towards him. "I have never seen Aunt T'Kara in such a good humor. My father cannot understand it.""Does this mean I can continue with my work on blood typing?" McCoy asked seriously. "I still haven't perfected it for Vulcans.""Certainly, if you are very careful and make no mistakes." Spock took another sip from his glass. "But, I would like to know what magic you have used to ensnare my Aunt so successfully. She asked, no insisted, that you come back tonight.""Sir," McCoy tilted his head and smiled at the two men. "There are some things a gentleman does not discuss. Can I go?""You had better," Spock retorted drily. "Or I don't dare approach her.""Hey, since we're all so happy around here, how about making me happy and remove the rest of these stitches." Kirk complained loudly. "They're itching."McCoy looked at Spock who nodded. He then went over to inspect the chest wound. "I'm sure we can. It'll just take a second." True to his word the stitches were removed. The doctor checked the scar carefully. "Now, don't do anything to reopen the wound. And don't over strain for at least a week. You're still pretty weak.""I promise to be good." Jim replied meekly, but then looked at Spock and smiled."Don't know why you should start now." The doctor grumbled teasingly. "You haven't been yet."The Vulcan had been watching the work being done agreed. "I don't believe he knows how. Seriously McCoy, we must prepare to move on in a few days. Will he be able to travel?""If we go carefully and you promise not to fight anyone for a while." McCoy looked sternly at Kirk. "He'll just have to be a non-fighting fighting slave for a while."Spock nodded in agreement. "I' sure I can made some use of him in other capacities." He then glanced at McCoy. "And yes, you have leave to keep visiting Aunt T'Kara as long as we are here.""Yes, Sir. Thank you Sir. I'm sure I'll be quite happy to." McCoy smiled and bounced on the balls of his feet.Spock looked over at Kirk and raised an eyebrow. Kirk smiled back. "I told you he'd be alright.""Indeed."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

McCoy lay awake looking up at the familiar ceiling in T'Kara's bedroom. By all rights he should be dead to the world by nos. He'd been up since early morning with his testing for a way to determine Spock's blood type. They would be leaving soon, Jim was almost completely healed and he still didn't have any answers to what should be a very simple question. He shifted in the bed and T'Kara stirred, then reached for him. He moved to join her."Why are you still awake, little one?" Her sleepy voice purred into his ear. "Did I not wear you out sufficiently?""Sorry, darlin'." He apologised as he kissed her and cuddled up next to her. "I'm just figgerin.""What are you figuring tonight that is so important." He looked at her thoughtfully. Well, she was as good as anyone to ask. "You know I've been doing experiments with Vulcan blood typing, so in case Spock is hurt I can find a donor to help him."She rolled over to face him. "I know you've been poking holes in everyone who will stand still for you."He frowned. "But I can't match him. He doesn't even seem to match Vulcan norm, whatever the hell that is." Flopping over he glared at the ceiling. "Why? Why doesn't it work on him?"T'Kara was now fully awake. "Could this test that you're doing, could it really save his life?"He turned to her. "Yes, it could. If he was seriously wounded and lost a lot of blood I could replace it with matching blood. But it would have to match or it could kill him."She lay still a moment as if deciding something. Then she got up and put on her robe. "Then you must do one more test, on me."A short time later in McCoy's makeshift lab, he was studying a sample of T'Kara's blood. He shook his head and leaned back in his chair. "It's no good. This is more similiar, but it still has differences. It's something else showing up I can't identify."T'Kara came to his side and put her hand on his shoulder. "How much more similiar?""This type's a lot closer to his, the first to do so I might add, but there's still some unidentified elements that I can't answer for.She frowned at him, then motioned to him to follow. "Leonard, you must come with me. There is a better place for me to tell you this tale." After they closed down the makeshift lab room. The Vulcaness led McCoy to a small room.It was an empty gallery, lined on either side by small alcoves, each containg a box decorated with precious stones. Below each niche was a name plate. T'Kara stopped beside one and gently touched the lacquered container. "This is the final resting place of T'Pavra, the wife of my brother and my sister of our house. Below the plaque is another name, a human name. Amanda."McCoy bent so he could read it. "Who's Amanda?""That is my story, Little One." T'Kara looked at him long and sadly. "What I am about to tell you is the secret of Shi'Karr. Only Sarek, T'Pavra, Amanda, myself and now you, may know it. You must pledge me your blood-oath and know that its telling could destroy everything and all of us. Especially Spock. Pledge me, Leonard."

McCoy was shaken. This wasn't anything he was expecting. "I swear upon my oath as a physician, never to reveal your family's secret." He pulled the pin that held his tunic closed and scratched his forearm with it. Blood oozed out of the injury. "This is my solemn oath.""Very well." She took a deep breath and began. "Long ago my brother took a wife. She was beautiful beyond measure and the blood of our royalty flowed in her. She and Sarek loved well and deep, but their love bore no fruit. She was barren. For many years they tried but to no avail. The one miraculous day she knew she was pregnant. Sarek in his joy, purchased a present for her. A slave, a human named Amanda. The slave was also quite beautiful and very easy to love. But to all our sorrows, T'Pavra lost the child in her fifth month. She was desolate to have had her hopes and dreams shattered. So they tried again but still no child. Finally, in her obsession, T'Pavra devised a scheme that if she could not bear Sarek a child perhaps her slave could. I never knew if Amanda was willing, it made little difference. She did conceive. But the story was told that my sister was pregnant and that Amanda served her closely so that she might not lose this child. That explained why neither of them were seen for a year except by me. T'Pavra and I cared for the little human in her weakness and illness. Many times I feared the pregnancy would kill the brave girl but she finally delivered a perfect beautiful son. When she regained her strength and the babe was old enough, he was shown to the clan and claimed by his Vulcan parents as their true son. Amanda, of course, raised the boy and knew that he was loved by all.He was beautiful and looked truely Vulcan. But in his youth, he was bitten by a poisonous lizard. Amanda saved his life by sucking the poison from his wound. She died when it entered her body. The boy never knew it was his true mother who gave her life for her son. Amanda was mourned as a beloved servant and friend and her name is remembered here by all who knew and loved her.The boy grew tall and handsome. He grew to manhood here in this house. T'Pavra lived to see her son selected as a Warrior Trainee and to hold her grandson in her arms. She died knowing the family line continues because of her. And that Leonard, is the end of my story." She tilted her head, looking at him sadly. Then she kissed him. "I hope you can understand."McCoy was stunned, hardly daring to believe her story. Spock was half human. No wonder nothing worked on his blood type. He is probably the only hybrid like this on the entire planet. "My God, T'Kara."

She smiled at him. "Exactly, Leonard. Now you see why no one must know. If the secret were known our family would be destroyed. Sarek dishonored and the titles and land stripped from us all. And you and Jim, well you would be less than nothing. We are too powerful and have too many enemies. Sarek and Spock would probably be tortured to death while we were made to watch their deaths. You and Jim would be sold to the highest bidder."I understand T'Kara. I really do. It's just so fantastic but it all works out. That's why the blood typing can't work. He doesn't match anyone.""That is true. Spock is truely one of a kind. Now, you know our secret and you must also know it must die with you.""I do. And I understand. Don't worry T'Kara, no one will ever find out anything from me.""And, not even Spock must know.""No," He agreed. "Not even Spock."

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

A week later, McCoy secured the lashing on the pack saddle of their new pack horse. Kirk was well and strong now and their master, the Lord Spock was anxious to be on their way to reunite with the band of Warriors that he rode with. McCoy had packed everything and anything that he even suspected that might be of some use on the trail. He had been given his own mount, properly named Skylark, and the three travelers were nearly prepared for the long desert crossing that would rejoin them with Satak, his slave and the gathering that was soon to end.He again schecked his supplies, reviewing in his mind the route Spock had told them they would travel. Teh first part of their trip was to be long and dry. Water would be scarce save that which they carried. Ever cautious, McCoy turned to fill one more waterskin, his mind drifting over his time under Lord Sarek's roof.T'Kara had made an offer to buy the slave McCoy, but Spock decided that the Human would accompany him and his fighting slave. One never knew when one might need a healer on the War Trail.McCoy and T'Kara had said their goodbyes the night before on his final visit to her bedchamber. He was assured that he would be welcome on any future visits and that his place with her was secure. If his master should be killed in battle, McCoy would be returned to his Lady. His mind rested easier at the knowledge.Returning to his mount with waterskin in hand, he smiled at the sight of Spock helping Jim onto Trooper. He could see how happy they were, that all they needed were each other. And he was strangely content to share in their happiness. He'd wondered fleetingly about Jim's fate should Spock die, but one glance at the pair dispelled all concern. They were sort of an Alexander and Hapastion, though for the life of him he couldn't figure which one was which. The two would die together in battle, fighting bravely side by side, inseparable even by death. But for now, their story would go on. There would be excitement and battles, he was certain of that.
