Rose stared at the massive double doors that stood beyond the crowd. The sun was glaring, and the air felt thick and heavy. Pulling a large breath through her black lips, she exhaled loudly. The chatter of other teens her age drifted towards her and seemed to become impossibly loud as she neared the mob of students. They parted like the red sea as she neared, none of them wanting to be near the "totes gross emo tentacle lesbian"
She pushed her tongue against the side of her mouth before popping her lips and walking on the newly formed path in front of her. She neared the inward swinging doors and paused. She took out a small lavender handkerchief to protect her hand pushed open the door, stepping into a badly lit hallway that smelled of angst, lust, and sweat.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kanaya looked at the polyester mess that was her customer in front of her. Looking the client up and down, she tsked quietly before taking out a clipboard and pen. "Now tell me my dear, how do you feel about v-necks?" She continued with questions like this, nodding and jotting down answers. After gathering enough information, she looked around the small boutique before bringing back three articles of clothing. Her sister took care of the rest. Kanaya collapsed on a black loveseat in the lobby.
She had to do this everyday. Ask questions about people she didn't know, and didn't want to know, finding something that will actually look horrible on them but that they want nonetheless, and wait for another customer. Unlike most teens, she was homeschooled and so did not have school to look forward to. She rarely got out much, and had few friends. However, there was always one amazing part of her day...
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rose smiled at her computer screen. She loved it when Kanaya would attempt to tell a joke and fail miserably. She didn't like that Kanaya failed, she loved that it was so adorable and oddly dorky for the elegant girl. She wished that Kanaya were by her side. She wished that she could talk to her face to face, hold her hand, kiss her... Rose shook all of those thoughts out of her head and focused on the green text that had just appeared.
"What If I Moved To Silverdale?"
Rose sighed and typed back
" You and I both know that can't happen."
Rose had been discussing her loneliness with the other girl. Her step brother Dave lived faraway in Texas, Jade lived on some remote island in the pacific, and John was on the other side of the state.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kanaya sighed at Rose's negativity. She would have loved to cheer her up, but she must keep her plans a secret. She had bought a plane ticket to Seattle, and planned to ride a bus to Silverdale. Her flight was two days from now. She couldn't wait. The excitement was playing with her stomach, and odd game of tag. She had already put all her items in a suitcase, and planned everything out, but she still felt that there was something she was missing. It was probably just nerves. Nerves. Yes.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rose looked at the clock begrudgingly. It seemed tired today, and was moving incredibly slowly. Rose muttered under her breath, cursing at the innocent clock. After what seemed like at least two hours, a loud ringing vibrated through all of the classrooms, signaling the end of the school day. Rose quickly swung her bag over her shoulder, speed walking on her way out the doors. The sun was still glaring down, and Rose quickly began to sweat. No matter. She would be home soon.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kanaya sat up as she heard economy class being called to take their seats. she settled into E1, and saw that her row was entirely empty. She pushed her suitcase into the over head compartment and sat down again. The flight attendants came to give a safety presentation. She should have been listening, but she was thinking about something else. Or rather, someone else. She smiled to herself, picturing Rose's sleek platinum blonde hair, her full black lips, her beautiful orchid eyes. She would see her soon.Kanaya began anxiously picking at her thumb. She planned to surprise Rose at school, when she was least expecting it. She hadn't seen her girlfriend in years, moving to New York with her sister to set up shop. She didn't regret going with Porrim, not in the least. But she couldn't stay there. There was always something missing. It was like looking at an almost finished jigsaw puzzle, with only one piece in the corner missing. She was going to find that piece in Silverdale, Washington.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Rose was in seventh period when she felt something. It wasn't like something was touching her, though the boy with the lisp that sat behind her always spit on Rose when he talked. No, it was something more subtle, like a memory was trying to resurface, but couldn't quite break through, just gently brushing your thoughts. Rose looked around carefully. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Her brother was flirting with Karkat. Nepeta was talking to the sweaty equine. All was normal. Rose huffed and focused on her Charles Dutton book.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kanaya was standing outside of Rose's school, twiddling her thumbs. She pushed away all negative thoughts and pushed the door open. She was greeted by a secretary who asked her to sign in and grab a visitors pass. Kanaya stared vehemently at the plastic badge, but put it on anyway. Chunky notice-me pieces were in this season. Besides, she didn't care about how she looked. She was two minutes away from seeing the love of her life.
Kanaya waited in a large room that had multiple hallways leading out to different wings of the school. The secretary said that all the students pass through the room to get to their lockers and out the doors. Soon a bell rang, and students came pouring in. She quickly picked out the blonde and rushed towards her. Rose's eyes went wide, before tearing up. She pulled Kanaya into a kiss.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A mass of students watched Rose pull this new girl into a kiss. Poor girl. Rose was sick, reenacting her weird lesbian fantasies on the new gi- wait what? Why is she kissing Rose back? Are they...? What? Oh. Rose and and that girl look so happy to see each other. It's, actually kind of... sweet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rose hugged Kanaya tightly. "I should have known what you were doing." Kanaya smiled. "Well, I was pretty sneaky..." Kanaya pressed her forehead against Rose's. She could only see the gorgeous girl in front of her. She began to hear clapping, and glanced around to see an audience. She didn't mind. Rose leaned in and whispered "You're the only one who can make me feel so stupid and beautiful"
