Loyalty

Work Text

Abel sometimes wondered if perhaps loyalty and obedience could be different things. He probably wasn't supposed to think this way, and he was a little afraid of what would happen to him if his master realised that he did, but he couldn't help it, couldn't stop having doubts about this whole "bring back Dracula" plan. It was what Master Isaac wanted, and maybe it really would make Master Isaac happy, but Abel didn't think so. He thought it would be just like it was before, with Master Isaac desperate to be the centre of Dracula's attention and unhappy that he never was. Dracula's wife was gone, Hector would be gone, or as good as, but Dracula's obsession with destroying the humans would still come first, Abel was sure. Dracula had never properly appreciated Master Isaac. Never really looked at how beautiful he was. Abel had never liked Dracula, no, not even if it was Dracula's power that had let Master Isaac create him. He had never liked Hector, either, but at least the man had taste before he'd turned traitor--Abel had caught him, more than once, watching with lust in his eyes as Master Isaac left the room. But the part where Abel hesitated every time was trying to decide if the way things were before was better or worse than the way things were now. Master Isaac was so angry all the time, now, so wild and unstable; he wasn't happy like this, either. So Abel's dangerous thoughts remained thoughts and he continued to obey, because if he couldn't guarantee that disobedience would make things better for his master, then how could he risk it? Risk everything? At least this way he got to stay with Master Isaac. There were some good things about the current state of affairs. Or at least, things that were good for Abel. Master Isaac had always cut a fine figure, but as he'd lost more and more of his armour, baring more and more of his skin... it was an unworthy thought, but Abel liked guarding his master's back as much for the view as for the warm glow he felt at being so trusted.Perhaps it would all work out for the best. Perhaps these strange thoughts were only an artifact of Abel's evolution and would go away once he settled in this new form. He would have faith that Master Isaac knew best, stay by his side when no one else would, follow his commands without fail, and surely all would be well. Surely.-fin-
