Prologue
She was reading 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' once again. It was definitely her favourite book in the Harry Potter series. She loved the series as a whole but her favourite character of the series was, without a doubt, Severus Snape and she wished he hadn't died at the end. After everything he did and sacrificed, it just wasn't fair that he would just die, and especially not that in that stupid way. How was it possible that a Potion Master and a master spy like him didn't have some kind of failsafe in place, a ready antidote on hand against Nagini's venom? He was around Voldemort and Nagini constantly, had seen firsthand how Voldemort loved to give his enemies to Nagini and he hadn't thought of something to save his life in case he was found out? It was one thing if Voldemort had casted Avada Kedavra against him, there was no escaping that. But he died from the bite of a poisonous snake and he was a freaking potion master. She didn't buy that one bit, it didn't make sense. So, yes, if there was one thing she would change of the series was Severus Snape's death. But that wasn't the only thing. She would sometimes think about how she would change the story events, because, why not? It was fun. There were so many possibilities, after all, so many what ifs.For example, she had always been curious about the character of Daphne Greengrass.
Daphne didn't even appear in the movies, as far as she remembered and there was so little about her in the books, that she could imagine her however she wanted. For example, she had always imagined Daphne blonde – and pretty, of course, very pretty (like Ester Esposito as she looked in Elite, for example? But with bigger boobs like Sophie Mudd. That would work). The Greengrass family would be, of course, an old, rich, powerful pureblooded family, like the Blacks and the Malfoys. But, unlike them, they would take pride in their ability to have always remained neutral during the various wars that hit the Wizarding World, first with Grindelwald and then Voldemort. And, unlike them, they would also be more accepting of muggleborns and half-bloods.Academically speaking Daphne would be very talented, excelling in all her classes, both because she studied a lot, like Hermione, but also because she was naturally gifted. And of course, she would try to broaden her knowledge by studying ahead and in other subjects not taught at Hogwarts. She would be the best student in her year, even better than Hermione, magic would just come naturally to her, even before Hogwarts. She would be especially talented in Potions and Charms, but also in Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts. She would be ambitious, of course, as befitting a slytherin student – and cunning, resourceful, self-serving and manipulative too, only caring about her own self-preservation and that of her family, reason why she would not antagonise Harry Potter needlessly, feeling that making an enemy of the boy-who-lived would be detrimental for her in the long run. At the same time she would not go out of her way to befriend him or anyone else outside of Slytherin House, too afraid to be accused to be a muggle lover or a Dumbledore sympathiser. No she would remain neutral, keeping her head down as much as possible, pretending she supported Voldemort and his views but without being loud and proud about it (but, in reality, hoping Harry Potter would defeat him). She would work hard at school, not only with homework and studying from the curriculum, but even outside of it, to be the best witch she could ever be, and she would certainly not stop to learn only Ministry-approved magic, no, she would want to learn the Dark Arts as well, because, in her mind, all magic was worth learning and knowing.Hermione was certainly intelligent, but she was also too obsessed with learning everything by heart, only following the books' knowledge, without going beyond it, like Snape did when he would invent spells and modify potion recipes. Hermione had never been able to do that. But Daphne would, and that was what would set her apart from all the other students in the school – except maybe, Fred and George, who were the really brilliant ones, to be honest, much better than Hermione, in fact; they were just never very much academically inclined, but they were amazing inventors. She would also be shallow and very concerned with her appearance, wanting to look pretty and feminine (and sexy and seductive too). Naturally she would get the best money can buy, whether clothes, beauty potions and products but also rare books – everything she wanted, really, since the Greengrass family would be very rich. Therefore, she would also be spoiled and used to get what she wanted.Naturally, thinking about the character of Daphne Greengrass she had just created in her mind, she couldn't help but imagine what it would be like to actually end up in the Harry Potter world as this Daphne Greengrass. She would certainly go out of her way to save Snape's life and perhaps do everything she could to make him forget all about Lily Evans and fall madly in love with her instead.Of course, such a thing was impossible so she decided to stop thinking about it.She closed the book she was reading, look out the window at the cloudless, starry sky and then closed her eyes, an involuntary wish on the back of her mind before falling asleep. She didn't notice the falling star passing in that moment outside her window.
