Work Text

Suga reached out and closed the tap. This was it. The end. He looked around the room he shared with Jin-hyung, remembering all the memories, happy and sad, and pressed send. Since he wasn’t going to be around much longer, he might as well tell Jimin his true feelings. He took a deep breath, and slowly began to submerge his trembling body into the tub filled with warm water. His body was now fully submerged. With silent tears falling from his eyes, he began to lower his head, leaving only his mouth out of the water. He took a deep breath. He wanted his last word to be something meaningful, something that told the other members something he had always been too shy to put into words.“Saranghae~” he whispered to the empty room, and began to drop his head into the rapidly cooling water._____________________________________“Where’s Suga-hyung?” Jungkook asked Jimin. “Hobi-hyung wants him to go and learn the new choreography." Jimin frowned, thinking. Come to think of it, he hadn’t seen Suga since the morning, when the elder told him that after breakfast he had something important to sort out. He took out his phone, and opened the contact named ‘Min Suga Jjang Man Bbung Bbung’. His phone pinged. He had one new message from Suga. That was weird; Suga never answered messages, let alone sent them, unless it was an emergency. He opened Kakao talk. The message was one word. Saranghae. Jimin furrowed his brows. Something must be up. Suga never showed his emotions like this. He ran to the dance practise room, alarm bells blaring in his head.

‘Please be there, Jin-hyung,’ he muttered over and over again, like a mantra. He pushed the door of the dance practise room. There was J-hope hyung, and sure enough, Jin-hyung, struggling with the complicated dance moves J-hope was trying to teach him.“Ah, Jiminnie!” J-hope exclaimed. “Have you fou..”Jimin cut him off. He knew he would probably get a scolding for it later, but this was important.“Jin….Jin-hyung,” he panted, out of breath. “I… I need the key to your room. Please. It’s important.”Jin frowned disapprovingly. “Jiminnie, J-hope was talking to you. You don’t cut him off like that.”Jimin nodded. “I.. I know hyung, but there’s an emergency. Please… please let me have your key. It’s Suga.”############As soon as he heard those two words, Jin froze, the disapproving lecture he was giving Jimin forgotten. He knew Suga did some stupid things sometimes, and everyone knew he had a soft spot for his dongsaeng, Jimin. Jin fumbled around in his pocked for the key, handing it to Jimin.“Go now, Chim Chim!” he urged the younger. Jimin nodded urgently, and sprinted out of the dance practise room, heading for the room that Suga and Jin shared. Jin sighed gently. He really hoped Suga wasn’t doing something stupid, that it was just a misunderstanding, that Jimin would come in the practise room in a few minutes with Suga hanging off his arm laughing, joking, happy. But the same alarm bells that were going off in Jimin’s head had started to take over Jin’s own thoughts, getting louder and louder until he couldn’t hear the music any more. He tripped over his own leg while trying to learn a particularly difficult part of the choreography. J-hope saw, and tactfully stopped the music, wiping his brow.“I’m tired, Jin-hyung,” he said to Jin. “Let’s take a break.”Jin nodded.“Anything you want to talk about, hyung?” J-hope asked Jin gently.Jin stared at his dongsaeng with a hint of pride in his eyes. When did Hobi get so caring and tactful?“Hobi… Hobi… Oh, Hobi, I’m so worried about Suga.” He blurted, covering his mouth with his hands when he realized what he had said.“Hyung… why?” J-hope questioned gently.Jin couldn’t help it. He began to tell J-hope the story of how, one day, when coming back from dance practise, he went back to his shared room, and found drops of blood on their couch.“I… I found Suga, Hobi. He was holding my knife, the one I use to cut octopus, and he was cutting his wrists gently. He… he didn’t notice me coming in, Hobi. He had brought the knife up to his neck. He was about to do it, J-hope. But he saw me come in and started crying. He said he was sorry, that he didn’t mean to do it. He made me promise never to tell anyone though. I’m a bad hyung,” Jin whined, tears falling down his face.J-hope slowly pushed Jin’s trembling head onto his sweaty shoulder.“Never, hyung.” J-hope whispered to Jin gently, stroking his hyung's hair.-----------------------------------------Taehyung was walking around the building, playing Pokemon Go, when he saw Jimin rushing towards Suga and Jin’s room, a look of urgency on his face.“Jimin-ah, where are you going so fast?” he asked. Jimin ran past without answering. Taehyung was intrigued. Jimin always had time for him. Even if the older was really busy, he still made time to play with his maknaes. He looked down at his phone. There were no more Pokemon around here, anyway. Grinning, he followed Jimin, watching the elder enter Suga and Jin’s room.“Suga-hyung?” he heard Jimin call out tentatively.-------------------------------------Jimin heard a dripping noise coming from the tap. Suga-hyung was in the bathroom then, he thought. And he hadn’t locked the door. That was weird. No-one ever left the bathroom door open when they were showering, apart from Taehyung, but that was a different question altogether. He gently pushed the door open.“Suga-hyung?” he called gently.----------------------------------------Suga was about to die. He knew it. Just a few more seconds. But then he heard that voice. A beautiful, melodious voice, lilting up and down as his dongsaeng spoke. It could only be one person. Jimin. He envied his dongsaeng for being able to see beauty in everything, even in Suga himself. Once, when they were out in the park, Jungkook found a spider, and was about to step on it. Jimin stopped him. He saw the beauty in that ugly scuttling critter. Suga only saw the world in black and white, Jimin being the only color he saw, like the moon lighting up a dark night."Suga-hyung!" he heard Jimin's voice, more urgent now, bringing him out of this vast abyss that was his mind. He saw a hand reach into the water. Chubby, childish, covered with rings. He stuck his own, long-fingered hand out the water and watched with fascination as Jimin pulled him out of the water.
