Work Text

“Hi. Hello,” says Jungkook to the first man wearing the museum’s uniform. A black loose shirt and black tight jeans. “Can you tell me where the shop is?” When the man turns, Jungkook immediately knows he had made a mistake. No, he didn’t confused a normal visitor for a worker but he asked to the most beautiful man of the place and now he’s turning a scarlet tone of red. His specialty. “Oh, yes,” replies the man, his deep voice making Jungkook even more nervous. Gay panic on, like his best friend Taehyung would say. “It’s on the first floor. You can go down through these stairs and then on the left. It’s not far away and you will see ir as soon as you’re there.” The man smiles and Jungkook can’t help himself and give him a big smile in return, his bunny teeth showing. “Tha-thank you so much” The stutter makes the man, whose pin says it’s called Namjoon, smile a little. Jungkook thinks he would die to puke the deep dimples that appear on Namjoon’s face making his smile look a thousand times better, even if that’s seemed hardly impossible. Jungkook returns the smile and runs away. Literally he runs away to the stairs, his feet betraying him and making him almost fall directly to the floor. Namjoon is still looking at him with a fond smile.

“Jimin,” screams Taehyung, Jungkook and him sprawled in the couch playing overwatch. “You don’t want to miss this amazing story Jungkook has to tell us.” A moment later, Jimin appears in nothing but a white shirt, his hair still wet and drops falling through his neck. “If this is not interesting enough I’m gonna turn off the wi-fi and your game is over, just saying.” Taehyung laughs, Jimin as nice as always after a long afternoon of dancing with Hoseok. “It’s really, really interesting. I swear.” “Taehyung,” complains Jungkook, flustered as he tries to fix his stare on the game again. “Why are you doing this to me?” “You need our expert advice and Jimin is the best in giving them.” Jimin grins as he lets his body relax into the couch in the middle of both of them. “So... it’s about a boy? A boy and our little Jungkookie?” “It’s nothing, Jimin-hyung,” says shyly Jungkook, the embarrassment growing. “I just went to the museum again, for the art class project I told you about. I lost my pencil so I asked a worker for the museum shop and he was really, really handsome.” “Oh,” replies Jimin, lying if he told he’s not surprised because it’s the first time Jungkook has talked about someone being handsome or about someone at all. “and what?” “That’s all," replies Jungkook trying to avoid the conversation. Taehyung rolls his eyes. “No, it’s not. This boy here just stalked him for an hour and even draw him. But he’s not capable to talk to him because we all know how dense this boy is.” “Did you even draw him? Who’s this boy and what did you do with “Hyung, I can’t draw faces and I hate it so don’t ask to paint you as my french girls” Jungkook?” Jungkook has stopped playing and he just buries his face on his hands, whining. “Hyuuuung.” Taehyung and Jimin keep teasing him but Jungkook tries his best to ignore them until he says goodnight and disappears into his room. Sleep is not easy when his mind is on those adorable dimples and strong body and that cute smile Namjoon has. Eventually he falls asleep thinking about the moment he will return to the museum next day.

Jungkook really likes his art classes. It’s not always easy, too much essays and a lot of pressure to be the best and not disappoint his parents for choosing something “So useful for your future”. It’s frustrating knowing that his two closest friends are the only ones who support him in his dream to become a famous cartoonist but if something does not Jungkook do is to give up. It’s his third day in a row in the museum and even if his friends tease him endlessly he really goes to finish his project. If he sees Namjoon and his stupid perfect face it’s a plus, but it’s not his only intention. It's really not. The second day he’s not lucky enough to meet him but the third he sees him just as he cross the door. The girl in the reception desk asks for his student card and Jungkook shows her with a smile as his eyes are still fixed on Namjoon talking to someone that seems his superior before going to his zone and sit in the chair placed in the door. “Thank you, have a nice day,” says the girl with the sweetest smile. Jungkook smiles back and starts going to his favorite spot. His project consist in a recreation of the museum atmosphere but captured in his drawings. He's doing fine so far, he has drawn two of his favorite spots where his favorite paints are exposed and then he has tried to draw a few people staring at them. It's easier for him to draw backs than faces. And it’s easier to capture the atmosphere when you enjoy museums as much as the people you’re drawing, finding not difficult at all to express how their would feel. “Wow,” says a deep voice he could recognize everywhere although he has only heard it one time. “You’re really amazing.” Jungkook blushes so hard at those words behind him. “I-i’m not, but thank you” Now Namjoon is in front of him, a soft smile on his lips and his eyes wide open. Jungkook blinks at him, silence filling the room if it not was for a few people steps. “Do you do it for pleasure?” asks Namjoon, siting next to him and making Jungkook tremble a little, the nerves getting into his stomach. “Kind of. It’s for an uni project but I enjoy it so it doesn’t feel like something bad or boring,” says Jungkook. “I really enjoy coming here.” Namjoon hums. “So you’re an art student, then?” “Yes, third year. I draw and paint a lot since I was a little kid and here I am after everything,” replies Jungkook, realizing he’s probably boring a stranger with his boring life. “I’m sorry I don’t want to bother you.” Namjoon laughs. “I asked, didn’t I?” Jungkook nods. “You can keep going with that draw. Can I stay here for a bit? I have a break and I don't wanna go outside. It's freezing right now. If you feel uncomfortable I can lea-“ “No, you can stay,” blurts out before Namjoon has even finished what he was saying. “I kinda enjoy your company?” “Oh.” “That came out weird, I’m sorry. I meant that it's okay to have someone with me as I draw," continues Jungkook nerviously. "Why am I always so awkward?” “It’s cute,” says Namjoon not looking at him but the painting in front of them. Jungkook thinks he can see his cheeks a little bit red but quickly threws away that thought, until Namjoon speaks again. “You are cute” "Oh."

What it seems at first a casual talk it becomes an habit. Jungkook returns almost every day for weeks with the excuse of his project and Namjoon is always there smiling at him or talking to him about art and books. Because he studied Art History and now it’s graduating in universal literature too. Jungkook has never been into literature that much but if he’s into something is Namjoon talking about what he’s passionate about. He’s just so smart that Jungkook follows his lead and listens to him happily. “I have a present for you,” says Namjoon one day as they’re walking in the museum, Namjoon is still a worker and has to take care of everything. “It’s not much but I thought you could like it.” “It wasn’t necessary, hyung. I didn’t have anything for you, I feel bad now.” “Don’t be stupid, Jungkook.” Namjoon disappears a moment when they arrive to the staff door and appears a few minutes later with a present in his hands. Jungkook knows it’s a book as soon as he sees it. “I know you don’t like to read even if you listen to me rant about my literature classes but I think you can enjoy this.” Jungkook picks up the book and smiles at him as he starts to unwrap it. It looks like a mess but Namjoon has tried and bought a book for him. Something in Jungkook chest jumps at the thought of Namjoon thinking about him in a bookstore and buying something especially for him. “It’s a famous cartoonist book,” says Jungkook, feeling his eyes burn and knowing his on the verge of tears. “You- you bought me a cartoonist book.” “You told be you wanted to be one so I guess this might give you strength to pursue your dreams even if you think nobody supports you.” “I’m-“ Jungkook can’t finish, tears falling down on his cheeks. “Thank you, thank you so much hyung.” Jungkook doesn’t stop crying and when Namjoon opens his arms to hug him, he doesn’t doubt any moment before throwing himself into Namjoon’s body and bury his face into his neck, his arms around tightly around his warmth.

It’s when Jungkook arrives home, after a shower and watching tv eating pizza with Jimin and Taehyung, that he opens the book and sees the post-it inside.
i hope you enjoy the book and your dreams become reality. never give up, jungkook. you’re so talented.

also, i can’t say this to you face to face but will you go out with me?

Jungkook can’t help himself and starts screaming as he jumps on his bed like if he was a 5 years old again. Suddenly the door opens and Taehyung with the most shocking expression appears into his sight. “What the fuck, Jungkook? It’s 1am. What are you doing?” Jungkook collapses into the bed again, his arms and legs spread in the mattress. He laughs loudly. “He asked me out,” says with the biggest grin Taehyung had the pleasure to see on Jungkook’s face. “Taehyung, Kim fucking Namjoon asked me out” Taehyung smiles fondly at his friend as if he had waiting for this moment forever. “Wow, you did it. You made your crush fall for you, I’m happy for you.” Taehyung mimics Jungkook and lays next to him on the mattress. “Tell me everything about him, I wanna know.”

Jungkook decides to take time until he goes to the museum again. It’s not because he wants to play it hard, it’s just Jungkook being overwhelmed by it. He’s never been with someone and it feels like to much to take in so he spent the last few days taking long walks at  han river or simply sitting in his roof drawing the city in front of him. Drawing has always been his escape from bad things but also his best way to think about everything. About the future, about his dreams, about how much he wants to kiss Namjoon and watch him wake up after a long night of cuddles. Things like that. “Are you gonna go out with him then?,” asked Jimin one day while they had breakfast. “I don’t know him but after all you have been telling us all this weeks you should give it a change.” “Yes,” said Jungkook. He really wanted it. “I’m gonna say yes.” Taehyung laughed. “It seems like you’re getting married.”  After a week he returns to the museum, his legs shaking a little bit and all he wants to say on his head. He doesn’t want to mess up anything, okay? “I thought you weren’t going back,” says a voice that makes Jungkook jump. “Oh, sorry I didn’t want to scare you.” Jungkook turns to face him. Namjoon is not wearing the uniform but a white shirt and loose black trousers. His dimples are showing and the glasses he’s wearing make him a lot more handsome that he already is. Jungkook smiles at him. “Hi,” murmurs shyly. “Hello to you too,” Namjoon replies nervously fidgeting. “Did you like the book?” “I liked the note better,” blurts out Jungkook without thinking, all his dialogue planned on his head fading. “and it’s a yes.”
♡

Jungkook doesn’t go as much as he would like to the museum anymore. Finals are approaching and he spends most of his time on the library. In another circumstances Jungkook would be sad but he can’t be sad when Namjoon invites him to coffee almost every morning before he goes to work. “C’mon let’s get you a cup of coffee,” says Namjoon through the phone. “I know you’re on the library so just come to the door in five minutes.” “Am I getting a muffin too?,” asks then Jungkook. He can listen Namjoon’s laugh. “Yes, you can.” “And a kiss?” “I’m waiting for you. Hurry up!”
♡
"I have a present for you," says Jungkook one day as his face rests on Namjoon's chest. "It's simple but I did what I can do better." "Don't tell me it's a-" starts saying Namjoon but Jungkook hurriedly puts his drawing on Namjoon's hands and smiles as he turns red.  "I love you, hyung."
