Sighing, Gabriel looked up to the sky as he felt that stab of pain that told him what had just happened. He was dead. That means he would've been dead again ...As with Lucifer, the little archangel had done it again, for he was a coward who'd used the same trick again to avoid the inevitable. But it had to be. Not only to finally be able to enjoy life again after seven years of torture but also because there was a job waiting for him to face.Gabriel didn't want to run away from his responsibility because that had been the case for too long. And then, of all people, it had been his favorite brother, Michael … that is, was this otherworldly bastard actually his brother? Man, was that a confusing mess.
Fucking family ...
Taking another deep breath, he stood up and put his hands in his pockets. Striding along the stony path to the bunker with his head hanging down, he paused for a moment. The others would surely be back by now. How would the brothers react ... and Castiel? What should he say?Shaking his head to think a little more clearly, Gabriel turned back. He couldn't just walk in there now ...First, a plan was needed. Rowena was the only one who knew he wasn't dead. The archangel had to giggle at how stunned the witch reacted. But Gabriel had looked just as goofy as Lucifer was no longer where he'd been left – kneeling and with his throat slit to use his grace to hold the passageway to the other universe open. The fighting spirit had returned for a moment, and the little angel wanted to turn around again. But the next moment, he'd snapped himself away and was standing in front of the bunker, and then there was no going back – not yet. First, he had to collect his thoughts. He'd told the redhead that too, and she'd promised to keep her mouth shut. His little dancing queen. With a smile, he thought about the little adventure between the bookshelves. Yes … she was flexible; there was no doubt about that. However, when the boys came along, it was all pretty embarrassing. Cas couldn't even look him in the face; he was so ashamed of him. Dean reacted the way Dean reacted, and Sam ... An uncomfortable tingling spread in Gabriel's stomach area. The young hunter was so shocked and also somewhat sad ...Gabriel had liked Sam since the first day they met in the school building. No, that wasn't true. He didn't just like Sam – he loved him, and not just since that day. It was much more the day when this sweet boy opened his eyes.God had given Gabe the task of watching over him. Only, the archangel hadn't taken this task seriously, just as he'd seldom taken anything seriously in his life or taken responsibility for it.Still, the two had a connection, and that special bond had stayed with him through the past seven years in Hell and kept him going. These thoughts and feelings gave him courage and hope to endure whatever anguish and pain Asmodeus had in store.A lively sparkle was suddenly seen in Gabriel's eyes, and his mouth twisted into a smile – knowing that the hunter cared about him too. Before those nasty bastards captured the little angel, he'd snuck into the young hunter's dreams from time to time and continued to do so after he was rescued – he couldn't help it. And what he'd seen there had warmed his little heart. Happy, he thought back to the past days and hours. He'd gotten his revenge. First Asmodeus...With joy and pride, he remembered how the man in the white suit had burst into flames. Well ... he'd also saved Sam and Cas – a good feeling. Then it was the turn of Loki's sons and the Master of Tricks himself. Then Sam saved his life. With little grace left, he couldn't have done much if Sam hadn't thrown him the wooden stick that finally destroyed Loki.A certain relief was felt at first, but this feeling didn't last long. In addition, he'd agreed to help the brothers free Jack and Mary. Admittedly, the anti-team player immediately regretted this promise, as he'd always fought for himself. In a nutshell, he'd avoided fights as much as possible. But there was Sam, who'd given him a pleading doggy look and said he needed him – HIM! With a sigh of frustration, Gabe sat down on the big rock, rested his elbows on his thighs, and rested his head on them before his thoughts caught up with him again.Of course, it was clear that this would be a suicide squad. Without heavenly powers, what could he have done against Michael? Still, he'd agreed ... for Sam.Then the conversation with Castiel followed. The information was that heaven was dying, and the archangel was the only one to save it: he – the loser.Gabriel had made a decision when his brother talked to him like that. He wanted to change; he didn't want to be a loser anymore and wanted to prove it to everyone. Now, a few hours later, sitting miserably on the cold stone, Gabe convinced himself that there was no choice but to do what he'd done and that it hadn't been an act of cowardice ... that he had to do it ... that the others would understand. But then again, it wasn't that easy. He was broken; Asmodeus had done a great job. Ever since the day, ages ago, since the world began ... since the day Gabriel had turned his back on heaven, maddened by the constant bickering between his brothers, he'd had that failure and cowardice covered behind a mask.Coincidentally, he'd rescued Loki, and because he didn't do anything without an ulterior motive, he appropriated his identity; hid behind wit, charm, and tricks.Gabriel enjoyed life but was always lonely. Of course, there were countless women and men ... but something was missing.Annoying people and having fun simultaneously was the life of the little angel-trickster ... regardless of the losses. But after thousands of years among humans, he knew there was something else – love, security, family, a home. But ... would Sam want him ... so broken? Of course, the two had one thing in common. But this similarity that connected the two was terrible. Gabriel didn't know what terrible thing his astral projection had seen in the other world before he died ... namely that Sam had died.Gabriel didn't know what Rowena had gone through in the meantime, trying to use all magic to keep the rift open.Gabriel didn't know Lucifer had made a pact with Michael in the meantime to find a way back together to destroy the world.Gabriel didn't know that more than twenty people were in the bunker in the meantime and wondered if he should go to them or just disappear into heaven. The problem with the last possibility was that only Cas knew where the portal was.And there was something else he didn't know: the young hunter was very sad. His mind was made up. Heart pounding, he stood up and wiped his sweaty hands on his pants before his feet slowly carried him towards the bunker. In front of the door, Gabe stopped again because the big lump in his throat just couldn't be swallowed. What was he supposed to say?
Hey guys, surprise. I ain't dead; that was just a trick ...
Minutes passed with all sorts of thoughts racing through his head. Eventually, the latch was pushed down, which was locked. Mentally Gabriel tried to reach Cas, but no matter how hard he tried, it didn't work. As if by itself, his hand clenched into a fist and pounded on the door.It took a few moments, but it was hours for Gabriel before the heavy door opened. "Hey, Sam. Did you miss me?"Both men stood in the doorway and didn't move a bit, but Gabriel held his right cheek the next moment when a sharp pain was felt.Sam couldn't believe who was standing there. With a mixture of anger, rage, and incredible relief, he slapped the little angel in the face, grabbed him by the shoulders, and took him a few steps outside."Gabe! I saw you die. You bloody bastard!"Gabriel didn't know how to react and just stared at the hunter. Those green-brown eyes sparkled with anger, but they softened, if not faintly wet, moments later."...""I'm so glad you're alive!"Sighing with relief, the two men fell into each other's arms."Damn, Gabe. Don't ever scare me like that again!"..."Sammy ... I'm so sorry about everything."Both hands clawed to the dark brown jacket as Gabriel mumbled into Sam's neck. It was so good to feel this warmth, and he felt safe with his young friend. He could tell the hunter wasn't upset, but still, Gabe felt the need to apologize. He'd screwed up so much and wanted a fresh start. Two tears ran down his cheeks as Sam took his chin and gently forced him to look up.Embarrassed, the smaller man turned his head to the side and sniffed."Me …" Gabe stammered, but Sam just shook his head, putting a forefinger to his lips, which were replaced by his lips in the next instant....Gabriel was shocked at first and stared at him with wide eyes. This state only lasted a second before a barely perceptible smile crept onto his face the next moment, his eyes closing, and standing on tiptoe, he let himself be carried away into another kiss with a contented growl. "Sam?"Suddenly, the two heard a voice behind them. The young hunter stepped aside to reveal the smaller man. Stunned, Dean stared from one to the other."Son of a bitch!"
