Danny Phantom/Hellboy CrossoverGreen Devil or Big Red and Little GreenDanny is a young psychic boy, who has the ability to talk to ghosts and raise the dead. Due to his powerful nature a powerful ghost the Phantom Prince tried use Danny to resurrect himself. But due to his good and noble spirit, Danny was able, to the last minute, seal the ghost within himself. This caused the young boy to fall unconscious. The BPRD come to collect the psychic child and the dangerous ghost. The ghost unable to escape his new fleshy confines took off with Danny's body.Danny's hair is black and white and one eye is ghost green. When he exhausts their shared power he's normal with all black hair and blue eyes. When Phantom senses extreme danger he takes over and Danny has all white hair and green eyes.Danny spent a year on the run, with his new ghost roommate and powers teaching the ghost, Phantom, about goodness and nobility and all the things that make humans worth something. For the most part Phantom is very patient with Danny, and let's the human have his way because hey ‘Eventually the human will die and I'll have his soul.’The BPRD finally catch up with Danny and Phantom and convince Danny to join them. Danny gets along well with Hellboy, Abe, Liz, Kate and Meyers. Phantom is standoffish but polite enough. Phantom isn't the only ghost hungry for a way into the human world (to eat souls and gain power) there's also Phantom Lord and master Pariah Dark who wants Phantom and his new toy to kneel before him and open a portal to the human world. And Hellboy isn't going to let his little buddy be used by anyone.

He had been surviving on scraps for weeks now, his pockets long empty. As much as he hated the thought of stealing, his hunger was growing too loud to ignore. 'Oh don't be so goodie-goodie. You'll starve quicker that way. Just take the damn donut and let's get going.’ Phantom groused. The wraith had never been hungry before and the gnawing pit in Danny’s stomach was enough to drive him to murder. But Danny couldn't shake off the guilt that twisted in his gut. Stealing was wrong, he knew that. But how else could he survive? The warm scent of sugar and dough filled his senses, taunting him with its deliciousness. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, steeling himself. Danny's stomach rumbled in resentful agreement and with a regretful sigh, he phased his hand through the glass and grabbed the glazed donut sandwich. Then with even more guilt, he grabbed two more. The bakery was closed for lunch and there was no one here to see, they didn’t even have security cameras. The young man exited the bakery, by walking straight through the door. He turned invisible and disappeared. The only evidence of his presence was a faint whisper of wind and the lingering scent of freshly baked pastries. Danny munched on his pilfered treats and listened to Phantom as the ghost spoke.
'You're going to kill yourself if you don't get actual food. If money is your problem just use our powers to get money.’
“How?” Danny asked, mostly to humor his friend. Despite Danny's inability to go home, Phantom was good company. He could be a little prickly and foul mouthed but he was good to Danny when he didn’t have to be.
‘By stealing the money from other humans. Then you won't feel so bad about stealing food.’
Danny didn't bother to tell Phantom how that was a bad plan. He knew the ghost meant well. Danny snuck into an alleyway and phased through the wall and came upon a scene. Some kid, black, with short curly hair, red hat, brillant turqouse colored eyes. Thin and weedy; soft. He was cute in a geeky kinda way. His lip was split and his eye was swollen but he held onto his backpack like a lifeline. He was also surrounded by much bigger meaner looking guys. Danny's sudden appearance elicited a hiss of surprise from one of the nearby figures. “Where the hell did you come from?!” One hissed, from the look of him, the biggest and meanest, he was the leader of the pack. Danny nonchalantly shoved the last donut in his mouth, crumbs scattering as he looked about.  His eyes darted over the dimly lit alleyway, taking in the shadows and trash scattered on the ground. The smell of stale cigarettes and rot lingered in the air. The faint trace of blood. Not only there but there was emotion wafting about, fear and anger, and a sadistic kind of satisfaction were palpable, and Danny felt all of those feelings settle in his stomach, like a warm rock. 'Four’s not too bad a number. You've got intangibility and invisibility down pack, you need to get better at flight and using our ecto blast.’ Phantom for the most part was laid back. Other than pushing Danny to steal food or money when necessary, he didn't bother to push Danny toward violence. “Sorry to drop in on you guys. But I'll be taking this.” Danny grabbed the other boy by the wrist and within the next beat bolted between the four bozos and was gone, dragging his prize behind him. The boy yelped but obligingly kept up. The four boys let out sharp yelps, their feet pounding against the pavement as they charged at Danny and his new companion. Danny pushed the pretty geeky boy behind him and whirled around. He clenched his fist tightly, reminding himself to control the immense power surging through his body, before delivering a powerful blow to the assailant's nose. The sound of bone crunching echoed through the air as the attacker stumbled back in pain. Everyone jumped, becauseDanny didn’t look like much, dirty and skinny, practically half dead. He looked over his shoulder at the boy, blue eyes glowing emerald green in the light and simply said, “Run.” The boy nodded and quietly said, “Be careful.” Then he was gone. Normally this was the part when Danny went invisible and intangible and disappeared. This time, Danny turned to face the group of boys with a determined expression. His voice rang out confidently as he declared, "Bullying is wrong." Behind Danny, a dark figure rose up behind him - a looming misty shadow that seemed almost human-like in shape. Its eyes glowed with a deep red intensity, and its sharp-toothed grin sent shivers down the spines of the bully boys present, distantly they could see and hear chains rattling around, the sounds and the sudden drop in temperature had them shaking in their boots. “Come on Danny-boy,” the eerie voice taunted. “Say something scary, get their blood pumping.”Danny clenched his fists and scowled, his 14-year-old features contorted in anger. "So don't let me catch you again," he growled menacingly. With a wicked grin that mirrored Phantom's own, Danny and his ghostly shadow disappeared into thin air. The air was thick with tension and fear as the bullies stood frozen in shock at the unexpected turn of events.
“Danny, you can't keep doing this to yourself. You're okay with scaring kids but not stealing to survive.”
Phantom almost whined as Danny clutched his stomach. It had been a few days since the incident in the alley and again, Danny was hungry. Desperately so. Danny frowned at -himself really-, “Stealing is still wrong. Even out of desperation. If I get caught I could go to jail.”'Get caught? You can turn invisible and intangible. How are you going to get caught?!’“Power can corrupt. If I use your powers to just do anything I want, then it won't be long before we're doing all sorts of bad things. If we want this to work, then we have to be moral. Those with power have a responsibility to use their power wisely.” Danny protested.  Phantom groaned, “Oh you moralistic little thing. If I wasn't attached to your flesh, I'd think you were putting on airs. But you really are that good and noble. Makes my core go all soft and mushy.” The ghost paused and then said, “Still doesn't change the fact that you're gonna be on the verge of perpetual starvation forever since you value your well-being less than you do your morals.” Danny sighed and leaned against the wall, “I know. But Mom and Dad were genuinely good people and so is Jazz.” Phantom manifested a smoky shadow around Danny, the rattle of chains, ringing in Danny’s ear, 'Fine. I'll do the dirty work for you.’ Before Danny could ask what that meant he was slipping into a sweet gentle darkness.  Hellboy frowned as he listened to the briefing. A boundless ghost was haunting the city, and various eateries and the occasional clothing store were being hit by an invisible assailant. “This is the only picture we have of the suspect. Thanks to a traffic camera.” Manning said irritably. The picture was of half a boy, he looked to be in mid-run clutching a bag of food with his hood drawn up. His leg and one arm and his waist were disappearing along with part of his face. The most apparent features were the glowing green eyes and snow-white hair. “We first suspected it was a psychic child. One capable of turning himself invisible.” Manning sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “So what, you want me to find him and give him a spanking?” Hellboy quipped. This seemed a little below his weight class. “First?” Liz questioned. The next picture showed the same boy, glowing green floating half a foot off of the ground fending off a glowing green lunch lady by way of green lasers out of his hands. “This is from yesterday night. Our psychic tried to lift from a local deli and was attacked for his troubles by the undead deli worker. He did some damage to both the ghost and the store before running away.” “So he's really only stealing food and what blankets and a pair of shoes. He's a scared kid, hungry and cold. He doesn't need a battalion to be sent after him.” Liz stated firmly. “I agree. I think Liz, Sidney, and John will make an admiral team on this case. Liz and Sidney will be able to sympathize with the boy and John has a friendly amicable appearance.” Abe said as he inspected the picture. Hellboy nodded. He liked kids and definitely wasn't up the confronting a scared hungry one. He was more an after-dinner course, “Yeah. Liz, Security, and Boy Scout should be more than enough.” As they embarked on their mission to locate the mysterious boy with glowing green eyes, Liz, Sidney, and John spread out in the city. They checked alleyways and abandoned buildings, questioning locals and keeping an eye out for any signs of unusual activity.  Danny groused at the new shoes and jacket alongside the sandwich in his hand. “Phantom!”'Shut up and eat. I had to fight off another ghost for that stupid ham sandwich. I made it the way you like too. Eat and be grateful.’ Phantom snipped. Danny sighed but did as told. Due to Danny's nature as a medium, Phantom was able to possess his body for brief periods of time. For the last week, he'd been Overshadowing Danny in order to steal. The Ghost was tired. Danny was the one in control of their powers now which meant even if Phantom could do something Danny wasn’t strong enough to do it just yet.  'Technically you aren't stealing, I am. You're not even conscious when I take over.’ Phantom defended. Danny munched on his sandwich, “About the ghost from last night. Is it safe to just leave her there? What if she hurts someone?”‘She’s fine. She likes the deli, so as long as no one tries to hurt the deli, she’ll be placid as a lake. I made a mistake targeting that place. I forgot to check for ghosts alongside cameras.’ Phantom said sheepishly. Danny’s soft fleshy core was making him lose his edge. He used to be a real heavy hitter but now merged with Danny’s human flesh, half of his was being used to sustain Danny and half of Danny was being used to sustain Phantom. They were half of each other now. Which mean when Danny’s body was suffering, Phantom was suffering too. Hunger was a pain that the ghost decidedly didn’t like. Not one little bit. Danny went to reply but a truck stopping in front of the park he was lounging about in caught his attention. Danny knew that his luck wouldn't last forever, he knew stealing was going to come back to bite him in the ass. ‘You should run Danny.’ Phantom stressed. He could smell something, like smoke or ash, something that tasted like magic on the back of his tongue and he hated it. Out of the truck came a woman. She was pretty with long brown hair, brown eyes, and skin on the pale side. Black shirt, green jacket, camo pants, and combat boots, alongside guns. Around her neck was a cross.  ‘Fire. She's fire. She burns. She’s hot. Get away, Danny. She could hurt you!’ Phantom hissed, Danny could feel his ghostly passenger trying to force his way to the front. To defend them both from the Flame Which Never Dies.Being the driver in this situation it was surprisingly easy to gently push Phantom back into the passenger seat.  “She hasn’t hurt us yet. Calm down.” Danny tried to soothe. Though Phantom’s fear made his body tense. Behind the woman came a thin dark-haired man with neat well put clothes and lastly came a taller sandy-haired man with a goatee, glasses, and gloves. All three seemed friendly enough, but Danny was ready to dart away at a moment’s notice.“Hi. We’re from the BPRD. The Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, we’d like to talk to you. Could you please come with us? We’d like to help you.” The woman said softly, holding out a badge. “I’m Agent Elizabeth Sherman. This is Agent John Myers and Agent Sidney Leach.”Sidney waved.  Danny blinked in interest, “I’m Danny.” He didn’t give his last name, he couldn’t use it any more. “Nice to meet you Danny.” Liz said gently as she held out a hand. Danny took it.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

“Where are you from, son?” Manning asked, noting the single green eye the boy sported rather than the two the picture implied.

“Minnesota.”

“How’d you get here? This is Connecticut.” Manning asked with a raised eyebrow.

“I walked a lot. Flew a little, hitched rides where I could.” Danny shrugged.

“Where are your parents, Son?”

“Gone.” Danny said sourly. Manning was more than prepared to bullhead his way through the subject but the boy’s stature changed.

Before he’d been trying to curl in on himself and disappear. Now he was sitting much straighter and the anxious look on his face was replaced with a cold indifference, both his eyes were green and his predominantly black hair with a white streak, it was now white with a black streak. Manning hadn’t even noticed the change until now.

“Don’t ask anything else. It's my turn to ask the questions. What do you want with us?” The boy hissed.

“Us?”

Danny scoffed, green eyes malicious, “Yes. Us. If you’ve got something important to say, say it and let us be on our way.”

“You’ve been using your powers to steal.” Manning barked, losing his admittedly quick temper.

“Out of necessity. They’re all non-negotiable I’m afraid. Can’t return anything he ate and he needs the coat and shoes so, here we are.” The boy crossed his arms in defiance. It was almost like Manning was talking to a different person.

“Am I still talking to Daniel James Fenton?”

“Sort of. It’s a timeshare.” Not-Danny said mildly.

“Then who are you?”

“I’m the Phantom.”

“And where did you come from?” Tom asked warily. He wasn’t a field agent but he carried a BPRD-issued gun just like everyone else.

Phantom chuckled, “Where do you think ghosts come from? Ah, I’m learning to be helpful from Danny so I’ll tell you. The living call it the Afterlife, and the dead know it as the Zone. That’s all I’ll say on the matter of home. Now one more time why did you bring Danny here?”

“We’d have liked to get in contact with his parents or guardian, but seeing as he has none. We’d like to take him in as a BPRD Trainee, and help him hone his powers. Use them for good.”

Phantom raised an eyebrow and then chuckled, mockingly, “Oh, someone knows the magic words.”

Danny stiffened and then slumped over the table for a minute. His hair revered colors and his right eye turned blue. He sat up rubbing his head but with a genuine smile on his face.

“I’m sorry if Phantom was rude to you. We’re working on our manners.” Danny said sheepishly, “But I’d really like to join the BPRD. My parents were fascinated with ghosts and I’ve always been a pretty decent medium. I used to talk to the ghost in Minnesota all the time.”

Manning rubbed at his nose, “Right.”

Oh, look a headache was coming.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Kate Corrigan smiled sweetly down at the young boy sitting across from her.

“So you’re saying that Phantom is possessing you?”

“Sort of. When I first summoned him he was immensely powerful, one of the most powerful ghosts I’ve ever seen. I bound him to my physical form and now we work together.” Danny said cheerfully.

Phantom huffed in Danny’s head. He’d been tricked by a novice and here he called himself smart.

“So Phantom gives you the ability to render yourself invisible and intangible?” Kate asked.

“We can also fly, and shoot ectoplasm like a ray gun.” Danny offered helpfully.

Kate hummed, “Well, why don’t we meet the other members of the BPRD, the Team as I like to call them.”

Danny looked up at the tall red man before him.

‘Oh, I know him. He’s the talk of the town. Bow down Danny, we’re in the presence of royalty.’

Phantom said with a chuckle. Danny opted to ignore him.

The 14-year-old boy held out a hand, “I’m Danny. Nice to meet you.”

“Hellboy.” He grasped Danny’s hand and they shook, nice and friendly.

Suddenly the boy staggered and both his eyes were green, “Don’t get any ideas, Princeling. This human is

mine

, you’ve got loads of ‘em here in your little zoo.” The Ghost snatched Danny’s hands back and wrapped them protectively around the boy’s body, a glare set on his face.

“So you’re Phantom?” Hellboy asked. Manning had told him about the personality change the boy could suddenly go through but he hadn’t expected it this quickly.

“Yeah. I’m Phantom and you and I can get along great, so long as you don’t get any ideas about Danny here.” Phantom said levelly. Demons were the worst kinds of roommates you trusted them to leave your stuff where it was and suddenly they were writing their name all over your things, claiming it as theirs.

Thieves the whole lot of them.
Danny’s eye turned blue and he flushed, “I’m sorry about him. He’s never been like that before.”

Phantom was on pins and needles around Hellboy, like a dog who had to piss on everything he owned so no one stole it.

“Stop that.” Danny hissed under his breath, he was well aware it looked like he was talking to himself.

“If I don’t set him straight now, he’ll get ideas.”

Phantom huffed,

“Unless of course, you like ‘em big, red, and apocalyptic.”

Danny rolled his eyes and turned to Hellboy, “Please ignore Phantom, he’s kind of like a cat. Sometimes he just gets in a bad mood.”
"Ya know kid, for some reason, I bring out the worst in people." Hellboy smirked.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

While Danny would claim to be something of an expert on ghosts, he had a convenient database in his head in the form of Phantom as well as most of his parents’ notes, he didn’t know much about other kinds of supernatural creatures.

Witches, Werewolves, Demons, Dragons, Trolls there was apparently a lot to learn in the BPRD library.

So between the mandatory training with Agent Myers, he often found himself in the library with Abe and Kate. Mostly Kate. Specifically Kate.

Kate, admittedly reminded him of his sister, the sure steady way she held herself, that mom-friend energy the warm look in her eyes. She just screamed Jazz to him and he couldn’t help the way he followed behind her a bit like a puppy.

Phantom of course thought this was hilarious.

‘Gonna call her Mommy?’

The poltergeist teased.

Danny flushed, “Shut up!”

He looked down a little guiltily at the box of notes and books he was ferrying to Kate’s office.

So maybe Kate reminded Danny of a little more than just Jazz.

The short hair, the unhealthy lab hours, the hyper fixation on folklore and mythology; it was like looking at a mirror image of Madeline Fenton, but in blonde.

The wave of melancholy crashed over him so suddenly, Danny felt his breath leave him. His parents were gone. He’d probably never get to see Jazz ever again. His home was lost to him and it was all Danny’s fault.

Phantom put a pause on his own amusement, ‘Are you….. Okay?’

Danny shook his head and took a breath, “I’m okay.”
Of course, Phantom knew when Danny was lying to him. They shared headspace it was nearly impossible for one to lie to the other.

Still, he erred on the side of discretion and left the subject alone.

‘Better get these back to Mamma Mia and all.’

Danny hefted the box more securely and made his way to Kate’s office.

Kate tucked away in an old dusty book, smiled sweetly at Danny as he entered her office and put the box down.

“Thanks a lot, Danny. I’m almost done with this and then you and I can grab lunch.”

Danny flushed.

There was a difference between Kate and Maddie.

Maddie got so lost in her research that it sometimes seemed she’d forget that she had children or rather that she just didn’t have any time for Jazz or Danny.

Kate always made time for him. Even if was as simple as stopping her research to have lunch with him.

‘Damn, they just let anyone in here.’

Phantom said sharply, warily.

Danny blinked and looked around, “What are you talking about?’

Phantom turned Danny’s head and directed his attention to the tall Japanese/Korean man with a heavily scared face who had just walked in.

Danny blinked as he looked at what was hovering just over the man’s shoulder. A massive werejaguar-like creature, bright red, smelling of iron, and salivating as it looked upon the various agents in the cafeteria.  The Jaguar was held back by what to Danny’s psychic senses were a few rusty chains.

‘That ain’t a ghost kid. That’s the rotting corpse of a god. One day it’ll kill everyone.’

Phantom said, disgust and awe in equal measure in his voice.

Danny’s first thought was,

‘Is that what possession is supposed to look like?’

His second thought was,

‘I have to get Kate out of here.’

Kate of course looked up to see the man and smiled brightly, “Ben! Over here.”

‘

Oh, she’s suicidal.’

Phantom sighed.

The man approached and Danny found himself watching him.

“How was Bangledesh?” Kate asked as she gave the man a hug. The Jaguar licked its lips.

Phantom snarled at it.

Ben and the Jaguar both turned to Danny in alarm.

Kate blinked between them, but used to her friends being weird moved on.
“Ben this is Danny. A new recruit. Danny this is Benjamin Daimio, one of our senior field agents.”

Danny offered a smile and a hand, “Nice to meet you Mr. Daimio.”

“Call me Ben, Kid.”

Ben and Danny shook hands and Danny ignored the growling.
