Work Text
Min Yoongi, a struggling music producer who obsesses over seeking constant perfection and stresses over even the smallest disruptions in his mixes, had gone overboard this morning. It was true that he frequently produced works of absolute excellence. Music that readily soothed your soul and poured into your ears. He was only able to describe the amount of time and energy it took him to perfect a piece. He would create a stunning piece of music in a matter of hours on occasion, but other times, he would sit in front of his music programming system and stare at the screen of his laptop for hours—or even days—before giving up.He would helplessly remain seated on his desk while observing the sun rise and set throughout the day. A whole day spent aimlessly sat in front of his laptop, without producing anything or getting any work done.Today had been one of those days, the ones where he would struggle for hours, trying too damn hard but not achieving the final outcome that he deserved. On those days, the Min would escape the suffocating walls of his apartment to clear his mind, and there was one place- one person- that managed to do that for him.— —“Good afternoon! How may I help you?” The boy greeted, flashy smile knocking the breath out of Min Yoongi’s lungs.Park Jimin... the boy who left Min Yoongi speechless by just smiling at him. Almond eyes turned up to little crescent moons as he beamed at the older, lips stretched into the widest, most genuine smile Yoongi had ever seen.“H-hey..” Yoongi stuttered for a moment, taken aback by the beauty of the boy even when he’d seen him one too many times. “I’d like an.. iced americano?” The boy decided, “no sugar, please..”Truth be told, Min Yoongi hated coffee... the bitter, dark concoction left a disgustingly acidic flavour on his tongue each time, and the man would almost crave for the sweetness of a hot tea each time he took a sip. Why did he buy coffee then, you ask? Simply because, coffee was all this café had to offer, and whilst the idea of the tea station across the street was extremely tempting to Yoongi, he would have to make do with the bitter iced Americano because Jimin wouldn’t be the one to serve him at the tea station. Jimin looked up at the older again, after punching in the order. “any thing else?” he asked, and Yoongi contemplated, he still had time to change the drink and order a milkshake or something els-“No.” The man blurted, “No thank you..”“Well, that would be 4300 won! Would that be in a to-go cup?”“Yes please,” the man whispered, passing over the money to the boy behind the counter.“Okay, one iced americano coming right up! Please have a seat, I’ll bring your drink to you shortly.” Jimin smiled brightly, a warm feeling seeping into Mins chest.“Thank you..” the older boy muttered, turning around before the younger could see the warm tinge spreading across his cheeks and the tip of his nose and ears. The man sat himself on a table for 2 at the corner of the café, next to the window so that the warm cast of the daylight would shine over him on this chilly winter day.He pulled his phone out of his pocket, pretending to look occupied as he stole glances at the boy behind the counter.Sometimes, Yoongi Really wished he had the courage to speak up to the boy and tell him he’d like to take him out, but bold as he may seem, he knows he would probably freeze up just holding a meaningless conversation with Jimin. The small boy who would always keep smiling, bouncy cotton-candy pink hair reflecting the sunlight, framing his round face beautifully. Yoongi watched as the boy pulled his plump bottom lip between his teeth, eyebrows furrowing in concentration as he tried to cover the to-go cup with its lid, the cutest expression on his face.As the lid finally got capped on, the boy smiled, dusting his hands on his maroon apron and turning around to grab a straw for the drink. The boy worked with so much concentration and effort, always smiling. Yoongi was convinced that the pink haired boy loved his job, he never lost his smile. When Jimin looked up from the tray he had organised for Yoongi, the older Turned his head away towards his phone, looking occupied as he scrolled through the home pages.“Iced Americano..” the boy announced as he came up to Yoongi’s table. “Enjoy your drink.” He smiled, and waited as Yoongi muttered a faint thank you, before turning away and walking back to the counter.Yoongi smiled absentmindedly, sipping at the drink with the straw but instead of the moan of delight that should’ve escaped Yoongi’s mouth, a grimace made its way to his face. The sharp acidic and bitter liquid swooshed around Yoongi’s mouth as he swallowed it, a dull aftertaste left on his tongue.Yoongi looked up from his drink, grimace never leaving his face, as he took in the features of bright Jimin talking to another customer. Yoongi’s grimace faded as a soft smile made its way to his face.
Yoongi hated drinking coffee. But at least the boy behind the counter made it bearable.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
“I don’t know Hoseok, i don't think i can make it… I have work to do. And I’ve already eaten!” Yoongi lied, sat in his dark bedroom with his laptop screen illuminating his face.“Hyuung! I know you’re lying. I’ll stop by with some food, I promise it won’t be a hassle..” Hoseok whined on the other end of the phone, “you have to eat hyung!”“I told you I’ve eaten now stop bothering me! I have this song to finish, I have to concentrate.” Yoongi scolded the younger, frown implanted on his face as he rubbed his tired eyes. “So talk to me when I’m no longer busy..”Today had been good for Yoongi. He had sat in front of the laptop late afternoon to work on a latest song and had been working on it all day! It had been a productive day for him, however he had been so concentrated that he hadn’t eaten lunch and now was planning to skip on dinner as well, just wanting to curl up in bed as soon as he completed this song. However, each time he would skip a meal, somehow his friends would turn up at his door, or call him to invite him for dinner.. Was it pure coincidence or some brotherly instinct? He didn’t know.“Hyung..” the voice on the other end changed, a heavier, less whiny and more authoritative voice entered Yoongi’s ears, as he rolled his eyes..Namjoon... the boy would always get Yoongi to listen to him somehow.“Yes Namjoon..” Yoongi said, annoyed.“We’re coming to get you.. Seokjin Has cooked a meal today and he ‘specially requests’ for you to be here.. don’t break his little heart.”“Ah really?” Yoongi muttered, “why didn’t you tell me it was Seokjin who cooked!?” The man couldn’t hide the excitement from his tone, he loved meals cooked by Seokjin. “I’ll be ready in 10, be here soon.” He announced, hanging up before the other could even reply.Yoongi sighed, resting the back of his head on the headboard behind him. He felt exhausted, like every ounce of energy had been sucked out of him.Yoongi got up from his bed and walked to the bathroom, splashing some water on his face in hopes of washing the sleepiness away.— —“Hyung!” Hoseok cheered, opening his arms wide as Yoongi stepped out the glass doors of his apartment building.Yoongi whined, moving away as Hoseok wrapped his arms around his torso bringing him in for a bone crushing embrace.“If you care about your life, Hoseok, move now!” Yoongi scolded, and the younger jumped away obediently, fearing Yoongi’s wrath.“Hyung!” Namjoon exclaimed, clapping his hands on Yoongi’s narrow shoulders, “Good to see you again.”“Right back at you.” Yoongi smiled at Namjoon, opening the back door of Namjoon’s car to get in.The ride back to Namjoon’s and Seokjin’s apartment was filled with chatter and laughs, the brothers filling each other in with whatever they missed in each other’s lives.— —
When they reached the apartment, Namjoon and Hoseok were pushed out of the way as Seokjin came to hug Yoongi.“Yoongi-yah!!” Seokjin patted his back, “It’s been so long! Good to see you again!”“We just met last week..” he said as Seokjin ruffled his hair.“We missed you! Be grateful for such a kind and caring hyung and loving dongsaengs!”“Yeah yeah..” Yoongi replied, faking a straight face however Seokjin’s comment made him feel warm inside.— —“So hyung..” began Hoseok, slurping on his spicy rice cake soup prepared by Seokjin with love. “You working on a new track?”“New tracks..” Yoongi corrected, carefully chewing on his Japchae as if he was trying to devour the taste forever. “I’ve been working on multiple tracks recently... some turn out to be amazing! Others not so much..”“Oh!” Hoseok exclaims. “That explains why you never get time for our group meetings!”Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok And Kim Namjoon were all collaborating music producers. Cypher, their group had been called. Going around by the names of Suga, J-hope and RM, respectively.Where they had come a long way together as a group, it was time that they pursued their solo careers on the side as well. Yoongi, known as Agust D as a solo artist was well known, well respected and immensely talented.“What are you talking about?!” He argued. “I always make time for our group meetings how could you blame me like that!” Yoongi reached to slap a hand at the back of The younger’s head.“Ah~ ouch~” Hoseok winced “that hurt hyuung!”“You deserve that!” Seokjin laughed, eyes crinkling as his plump lips stretched out into a smile. “Always teasing your hyungs like this!”“How could you say that! I’m the most well behaved out of us all.” Hoseok whined, rubbing the tender back of his head.“So hyung..” Namjoon tried to divert the topic. “Any luck?” He inquired.“Honestly Joon..” Yoongi trailed off, “its difficult.. I’ve come up with multiple tracks to produce as cypher.. I’m sure you guys will like them too.” He paused, thinking about how hard he worked to produce all the songs.“But, as rap artist Agust D.. I need to portray a message for everyone. I want to make this album meaningful, for me and for those who listen to it..” he sighed, “and it’s taking time, and a lot of effort.”“Well that’s great!” Namjoon smiled at Yoongi, genuine and bright. “I hope that you will be able to succeed in following your dream! You’re so important to Cypher because of ur passion and hard work! I’m sure your solo album will be great.”“Thank you..” Yoongi smiled, worry piled up in his chest as the realisation hit him that he was a part of cypher too, and he couldn’t neglect his two group members for the sake of his solo career.“I hope so too..”— —
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The bell chimed above Yoongi as he stepped into the warm and cozy atmosphere of the café.The boy rubbed his hands together in an attempt to warm himself down. It had been especially cold today out there, the sharp winter air nipped onto his skin such that his nose and cheeks were tinted a bright red.Yoongi blew onto his hands as he walked towards the counter, ready to request for a warm liquid today. He didn’t care if he bought coffee again, it was so cold outside that all he needed was to wrap his hands around the warm To-go cup of his cappuccino, and let the warm liquid soothe his freezing figure.“Hello! How may I help you?” Park Jimin beamed at Yoongi, a bright smile adorning his facial features. And again.. if Yoongi’s cheeks were red before, they bloomed into a brighter shade, warmth spreading across the tips of his ears.“Hey.. uh... cappuccino please? Tall! No sugar please.” Yoongi nodded towards the smaller boy.“Mhmm..” Jimin trailed off, punching in his order as the older boy studied the younger’s features. And Jimin looked irresistibly adorable! Yoongi smiled, finding the pink haired boys pouty lips and concentrated gaze unexplainably cute. He found it extremely difficult to stop himself from reaching over and pinching the boys chubby cheeks.“Anything else??” Jimin looked up, eye smiles bright as ever, adjusting the black cap on his head closer to his pink hair.“No, thank you!” Yoongi offered a gummy smile to the boy.“Well then!” Jimin looked up from the cash register, “that would be 4500 won!”Yoongi passed his card to the boy as the younger charged his drink onto it.“Please have a seat! I’ll bring your drink to you soon.” Jimin passed Yoongi’s card and receipt back to him, genuine smile making its way to his face.“Thank you.” Yoongi received his hard and the receipt back, carelessly stuffing it into his wallet.Yoongi took a seat at the back of the café today, the warmth back there inviting his cold body.He fetched his phone out of his pocket, checking a few emails and replying to them.He then grabbed the notebook out of his bag, the brown leatherback notebook home to countless doodles and song lyrics.Yoongi smiled as he thought of the boy behind the counter. Park Jimin. The pink haired boy who was always smiling bright as the sun, eye moons brightly beautiful on his face.Yoongi started writing without thinking about it, ideas flowing out of his head as he expressed them with his pen.A constant smile adorned his features, tiny yet noticeable. Yet yoongi had forgotten about his surroundings, eyes set on the cluttered words on his paper.“Tall cappuccino!” Jimin exclaimed beside Yoongi, as Yoongi snapped out of his trance, slightly startled.Yoongi looked up to the pink haired boy, as he set the tray on Yoongi’s table, gleaming.“Enjoy your drink!” He exclaimed, Yoongi noticed he was trying hard to contain his smile, as Yoongi muttered a subtle “thank you..”Yoongi picked up his drink at once, tossing his pen aside as he sipped onto the beverage, pleased moan slipping out of his throat as he swallowed the drink. The cold and sweet beverage met Yoongi’s tastebuds, another moan of delight slipped out of his mouth as he smiled. But-
Cold...
Sweet....Yoongi hadn’t ordered a drink that met the description at all. The older confusedly looked to his tall glass, the to-go cup not emitting warmth like he expected it to.Yoongi looked up to the counter, confusion apparent on his face as he looked for the younger boy.Perhaps he mixed up the order with someone else. Maybe it was a mistake, Jimin was after all human. However, that would not explain the tall to-go coffee cup used instead of the usual plastic cups for shakes.Yoongi looked down to his tray, aiming to keep his glass on to it and walk to the counter, pointing out that his drink had, in fact, been exchanged. However what stopped Yoongi from doing so was a yellow post-it note, pasted on the brown tray.Noticed how you would always make a sour face while sipping your coffee.. Trust me, it’s okay to not like coffee! For a change, hope you enjoy your vanilla milkshake!
-JiminWarmth... that’s all Yoongi felt spread across his chest as he read the note multiple times, Smile spreading across his lips, a tiny giggle escaping. And even though Yoongi was thoroughly looking forward to the warm drink, he took a huge sip out of his milk shake looking up to the counter again.Jimin stood there, smiling at Yoongi as he wiped the counters squeaky clean. The boy brought his hand up, waving to Yoongi from across the cafe as his eyes vanished into crescents. And again, warmth spread across Yoongi, wide gummy smile making its way to his face, as he waved back mouthing a thank you.
And yoongi decided, that this warmth was much better than the cappuccino would ever be able to offer.— —When Jimin went around the coffee shop to clean tables later that day, he least expected what was waiting for him on the table Yoongi sat on.The milk shake was amazing! Better than any coffee I’ve ever had! Thank you.. I hope we can be friends.
~Yoongi hyung.Jimin smiled holding the note in his tiny hands. He hoped they could be friends too.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Yoongi had been rather relaxed for the most of the month. The man wouldn’t stress over the progress of his albums as much as he used to earlier, slowly moulding each song into perfection.Yoongi’s month had been rather productive, the man would produce songs without disturbances, and the outcome would always be outstanding! He was excited about his album being almost complete. He would have lesser of the “unproductive” days and would always be most satisfied with his work.Yoongi was happy with how things would turn out these days.— —“Yah Tae! I’m working!!” Jimin giggled, the softest sound Yoongi had ever heard.Yoongi slowly walked towards the counter, baby steps so as to not interrupt Jimin’s conversation with his friend. With the boy behind the counter today, was another boy.. golden caramel locks tousled up oh his head as he tickled the pink haired boy, boxy smile stretched on his face as his freckled nose scrunched up in a playful manner.“Jiminie!” The other boy teased him, thick voice giggling as he continued tickling the others side again, nuzzling his chin into the pink haired boys neck to make him laugh. An pang of emotion hit Yoongi. If it was jealousy, he didn’t want to admit to it.Yoongi awkwardly stood in front of the counter, playing with his fingers until Jimin would notice his presence.“Oh? Hyung!” Jimin exclaimed, and hearing those words out of his mouth caused a subtle warmness to spread in Yoongi’s chest.“What can I get for you today? The usual?...” Jimin made a sneaky face, eyebrows lifting up as he asked him about the usual.. a vanilla shake in a to-go coffee cup.Yoongi had come to the café often after the post-it conversation they had. Both boys had got a chance to speak to each other, to know each other better.“The usual yes...” Yoongi smiled, pulling out his card from his wallet as his eyes shifted to a confused boy. The boy looked between Yoongi and Jimin as if trying to understand or recall if Jimin has ever told him about the elder.“Oh Tae!” Jimin looked up from the cash register, looking towards the confused boy. “Hyung, this is my best friend Taehyung!” Jimin pointed towards the boy as he bowed a little in greeting.Yoongi bowed his head back at the boy as Jimin introduced him “and tae, this is Yoongi hyung.”The boys eyes lit up in understanding as he exclaimed “Ah! I’ve heard so much abou-“, but before he could finish his sentence, Jimin had elbowed him in the ribs to shut him up.“That would be 4500 won.” Jimin interrupted the boy with an awkward smile. Yoongi passed him his card, signing on the machine when Jimin told him to.Yoongi was curious.. did Jimin talk to his friends about him? He hopes it’s all good things..“You can have a seat if you want, hyung! I’ll get you your coffee!” Jimin beamed, passing back Yoongi’s card to him. Usually Yoongi would choose to stand by the counter while Jimin prepared his drink, maybe make small talk to him or ask him about his day. But today, Yoongi decided to go sit at the back of the café since Jimin had company. And all thoughts were suddenly erased from the boys mind, the only thing he thought of was the beautiful smiling boy in front of him.“T-thank you..” Yoongi stuttered, walking to the table near the window. He spread happiness and colour into Yoongi’s dull life. And if Yoongi could choose, he would choose this colourful life. If Yoongi could choose... The pair of best friends bickered around as Jimin worked on Yoongi’s beverage. The boy teasing Jimin about something and pink rose up to his chubby cheeks.Yoongi smiled. The pink haired boy was cute... very cute.— —Beads of sweat pooled around Yoongi’s forehead as his heart beat erratically increased.Yoongi rapidly pressed the undo button on his mixing program but to no avail.. he frantically searched for the recycle bin but there was no sign of any.Yoongi was doomed.. months worth of hard work down the drain just by the click of a wrong button at the wrong time.Yoongi had- by mistake- deleted all the songs of his album. Each and every tune and note just vanished from his laptop, just by the click of a button.“Shit...” he whispered, pressing the undo button again and again. “Shit shit!” He exclaimed. “Come on...”“Please” he desperately whispered, looking for the recycle bin again. “No, please. Please!” He whispered again. With no other option left, he picked up his phone from his bed side table, hastily searching for one contact.“Hello?” The boy on the other end of the phone said in greeting. “Hyung?”“Namjoon-ah..” He whispered, desperation and exhaustion noticeable in his raspy voice. “I need your help.”— —
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
“Hyung I-“ Namjoon started, eyes scanning the laptop as he frantically searched for a way to undo what Yoongi did by accident. “I really don’t know how to fix this... it’s never happened with me before.”Yoongi brought his hands up to his head, hiding is face with one hand and pulling at his mint strands with the other. This was probably his worse nightmare.. it was possible even worse than that! This couldn’t have happened right now... Every thing was going so damn well in his life! He was so satisfied with everything..This could not possibly have happened.“Damn It!” Yoongi exclaimed, kicking a chair close to him as he stopped pacing around for a bit, both hands going up to his mint locks in frustration.“But don’t worry hyung! I’m sure we can figure something out... I have a friend, I’m sure he knows how to deal with this.” Namjoon rushed, suddenly concerned for his friend due to his outburst. “I’m pretty sure it’s all-““But what if it’s not!” Yoongi exclaimed, anger directed towards himself. “What if I never get the songs back! I worked damn hard for these and-“ Yoongi burst, “and if I don’t get these back, I don’t know if I can produce them again! My deadline is next week and- holy shit how will I manage to do it all over again?”Namjoon sat there at the desk, suddenly feeling speechless at the elders outburst.“What am I gonna do...” Yoongi whispered, crouched down on the floor, head in his hands as his frame slouched. “I’ve lost all my work.” He said, defeated. “Shit...”“Hyung...” Namjoon worried, tension etched over his own features as he looked at his best friend, his older brother. “Go home, get some rest... trust me hyung everything’s going to be okay! I promise I’ll try my best to bring them back, just trust me with this.”Yoongi rubbed his hands over his face, tears gathered at the edge of his eyes as he kept himself strong in front of his younger brother.“Hyung please.” Namjoon walked over, resting his hand over the crouched down mans back, comfortingly rubbing circles. “Go home and rest.. I’ll take this to my friend right away! He’ll figure something out.. please.””Hey, is everything okay?” Suddenly, a soft and worried voice startled the pair. Yoongi looked up to see their eldest hyung standing at the door frame of their bedroom, still dressed in his pink and white plaid Pajama pants and a grey T-Shirt. Yoongi nodded, standing up slowly as he whispered a soft sorry. He clapped his hands on the younger’s back as if to thank him and walked towards the door. Yoongi slipped on his shoes and coat, and walked out of the house without another word.Seokjin walked towards Namjoon, the latter having his head hung low as he let out a deep sigh. The elder rested his hand on the distressed boys shoulder comforting him as he moved his head to plant a long, meaningful kiss to the others temple. Namjoon returned the favour with a soft smile, as he moved his way around the apartment ready to call the person he hoped could bring his hyungs hard work back.— —Yoongi didn’t know what brought him here. His feet automatically made their way outside to the calm streets at the early hours of the morning.Truthfully, he didn’t even know if the place would be open, however his feet brought him there subconsciously. The bell chimed above his head as he entered the all too familiar place. The spicey aroma of cinnamon and the rich vanilla entered his nose, comforting him.Jimin stood a few tables away, wiping at the table concentratedly, scrubbing it furiously. The café was mostly empty, save for a few couples sharing midnight cravings and a group of boys, college students he assumed, drinking their coffees.Yoongi silently walked across the café to seat himself at the back, shielding himself from speaking to anyone. He just needed to be here. It calmed him somehow.Yoongi sat there alone, for hours even maybe. He wanted to forget about the events that took place earlier that day but couldn’t get it out of his mind.A tray was placed in front of him, as he sat lost in his thoughts. He stared at the mug of hot chocolate and the piece of red velvet cake, confusion etched on his features as he looked up to find the source. There stood Jimin, looking down at Yoongi with a smile on his face. “Yoongi hyung, hi!” He said, taking a seat next to the mint haired, carefully.Yoongi looked around, the café had emptied entirely. No body except the pair was in.Yoongi looked up to the clock. The numbers 4:32 am blinked back at him as he realised, he’s been here for way too long.“I don’t remember asking for-“ Yoongi started, suddenly embarrassed and shy since it was so late but Jimin cut him off, shaking his head.“You looked like you needed it hyung!” He smiled at Yoongi and Yoongi managed a smile back that really looked more like a grimace.“Thank you...” Yoongi replied, reaching to the hot chocolate and sipping out of it, just as Jimin brought his water bottle up to his lips and drank a big gulp out of it.“No problem! I hope you like the cake! Baker noona taught me how to frost it today!” Jimin smiled, proud that he learned something new. “I frosted the cake with my own two hands and it ended up looking decent!”
“That sounds fun.” Yoongi smiled at the boy. “Do you- are you always working this late?” Yoongi hesitated, digging into the red velvet cake and eating the small bite, passing the plate to Jimin soon after so that he could share the cake.“I’m covering up for a colleague today.” Jimin said, gladly slipping a bite into his mouth. “His mother’s in the hospital, something about a surgery.” He paused sipping his water. “Which means that I’ll have to work till 6 am, and then the next employee comes in.”“You sure love your job, don’t you?” Yoongi smiled, he found it cute how Jimin was ready to help his fellow employees even if it meant that he lost his sleep and the comfort of his house at night.“I enjoy it mostly..” Jimin replied, licking a bit of frosting off of his spoon, “I mean it’s a lot of effort and sometimes customers are rude and impatient...” he continued, cutting another piece of the cake, “plus with University and dance practice, it especially gets tiring.”“But it pays well! And it’s worth the effort mostly. Like When a lovely old couple comes in and shares their love story with me, or when cute little kids smile at me and thank me for giving them their order, especially when the mint haired boy who hates coffee writes a cute note to me about how he “hopes we could be friends” or whatever.” Jimin joked, bumping his shoulder with Yoongi as a smile made its way to the mint-haired boys face.“You wrote me the note first!” Yoongi fought, bumping his knee with the other playfully.“Mhm sure did” Jimin rolled his eyes playfully, soon after noticing the stiffness in Yoongi’s posture and how his eyes were set on the table.“Hyung...” Jimin worried, “is-is everything okay?” He inquired, eyes set on the elders face. “I mean- if asking you is fine.”“It’s okay. I’m fine.” Yoongi replied, sunken posture and sulky voice telling Jimin that he’s just about the opposite of ‘fine’.“It’s work... It gets stressful and I messed something up and now... I don’t know what to do..” Yoongi said, slowly opening up a little to the pink haired boy in front of him.“I’m sure it will pass...” Jimin said, trying to comfort Yoongi a little. “Hyung where do you work again?”“I’m a music producer.” Yoongi told the boy, as the boys eyes widened to the size of saucers. “I work with big-hit entertainment, in a production group called Cypher.”“W-wow...” Jimin whispered, “that’s so cool hyung! You’re so cool!”Yoongi smiled a bit, one that didn’t reach his eyes but just graced his lips gently. Yoongi spoke to the boy many times, held countless conversations such that he could now call Jimin a ‘friend’. But this what the first time he spoke about his work to the boy, and ironically so, he messed up the same day.“It is, isn’t it?” Yoongi replied, “but as cool as it is, it’s even more difficult to catch up with everyone else.. I messed up today, deleted my tracks by mistake and now, I don’t even know if I can get them back...”“Oh...” Jimin said, looking at Yoongi with admiration still, “hyung, you work so hard... it’s okay to make mistakes once in a while, isn’t it?”“Yeah, But not a mistake as big as this! It takes hard work and a lot of patience to create an album! And just a wrong button clicked deleted it all!”Silence spread around the empty café as soon as Yoongi stopped talking. The air was thick and Yoongi thought that perhaps this is the second time he messed up today. But soon enough, Jimin broke the silence.Jimin spoke up. “I think because you work hard you’ll get great results… I mean you like your job too... my mom used to tell me, that when a person enjoys what they’re doing and works hard to achieve their goals, they always get the reward for it. Aren’t you excited for the reward after the struggle?” Jimin beamed at Yoongi, a smile too bright and eyes too beautiful for Yoongi.“Life brings many tests, hyung. You just have to keep going on! Never give up.”Yoongi looked at the younger boy fondly, as he placed his small hand on the mint haired boys knee to comfort him. The boys smile filled Yoongi with burning passion and hope.“You’ll see, it’ll be fine.”And just then, Yoongi’s phone rang in his pocket, a high pitched wail shrilling across the empty café.Yoongi pulled his phone out in an instant. The caller ID read “joon” and worry spread in his chest as he wondered why the boy would call him so late, meanwhile completely forgetting that he asked the boy a favour just a few hours back… “Hello Joon? Everything okay? Why’re you calling so late??” Yoongi rushed In.“Hyung!” Namjoon exclaimed, excitement not being hidden in his tone, which calmed Yoongi down a bit. “Hyung you won’t believe this!”“What?! Quickly, you’re scaring me.” Yoongi worried.“My friend fixed your problem! Oh hyung, I’m so relieved, oh god! 7 tracks, were they? They’re all back! He brought them back somehow!” Namjoon exclaimed, happiness radiating onto Yoongi by his tone. “Are you at home right now? Did you go back safe? Can you meet me?? Please hyung I want to make sure everything’s fine and, oh god! Its all back!!”Yoongi stood there, silent and shocked. Jimin noticed his stiffened posture and brought a hand to his back. “Hyung is everything ok?” He softly asked, barely caressing the small of his back.Yoongi woke up from his daze, slightly nodding. “Namjoon where can I meet you?” He started, happiness bubbling up slowly inside of him.“I’ll be at your house in 10! I’m driving, I’ll call you later.”And with that, Namjoon declined the call.Yoongi stood in the café, breathing out a huff of relief. He closed his eyes, bringing his other hand up to ruffle his hair, in attempt to ease his tension. And when he looked to his side, he was met with an angelic Jimin. Wide eyes staring at the man with confusion and worry etched on his face.Yoongi felt a wave of emotions hit him all of a sudden. He felt victorious almost, like he had won over the world and Jimin was his reward. And yoongi didn’t know why he did it... or even if he was thinking straight at that moment. But just a few moments later Yoongi pushed himself forward, wrapping his arms around the pink haired boys small shoulders, squeezing the boy.Relief flooded through him, happiness soon taking over his tension.“Thank you...” he whispered, voice small but loud enough for Jimin to listen. And soon he felt Jimins small and chubby hands caressing his back, touch gentle and comforting.Yoongi pulled away a few moments later, remembering that Namjoon would be there any moment at his place, and with that thought Yoongi started collecting his valuables so that he could leave soon.“I’ll see you soon.” He told Jimin with a small smile, and Jimin smiled back, looking conflicted a bit. “I’ll have to run now, my friend will be home soon and I don’t want him waiting out in the cold..”And Jimin looked a little troubled, Yoongi wanted to ask the pink haired boy what the matter was, and he would have asked if he wasn’t in such a hurry.“Bye hyung!” Jimin told Yoongi with a smile, and Yoongi replied with a whispered “bye.”Yoongi exited the café, the cold air nipping at the tip of his nose almost instantly as he tried to make his way across the road. The man speed walked home, smile on his face, grateful for his little brother Namjoon. But very soon he stopped in his tracks, startled, turning his head back at such a speed he was surprised he hadn’t gotten a whiplash.“Hyung!” Jimin exclaimed, jacket less in the cold Weather, his white T-Shirt, khaki shorts and his maroon apron from work the only clothes saving him from freezing out in the cold. The boy looked desperate almost, and Yoongi suddenly got concerned about why he was so worked up.Looking both sides for a brief second, the pink haired boy ran across the road to meet with the older boy. And soon, breathless, he reached the mint haired boy.“I was-“ he started, unsure. “I-“Jimin took a big breath in, and yoongi was starting to get restless. “Yes, Jimin?” He urged, pushing his hands into his pockets to seek for warmth and comfort.“Hey- uh- hyung!” Jimin started. “Could you give me your number? Like- I don’t know- maybe if you wanna hangout again? Maybe somewhere out of the coffee shop? I don’t know-“ pink spread on the small boys cheeks and the tips of his ears and yoongi was sure that it wasn’t only because it was so cold outside. “I- it sounds stupid! Never mind please carry on-““Sure!” Yoongi exclaimed, cutting the rambling boy off, huge smile etched on his face. And yoongi hadn’t smiled so hard and so big in a long time. A big and a genuine smile that his grandma loved about him as a boy.Yoongi was genuinely happy, because later that morning when he sent Namjoon to sleep in his bed as if to silently thank him, he picked up his phone to see a new notification waiting for him.*unknown number*
5:36 am
Hello hyung! Jimin here. I hope you sleep well. See you soon! -jimin xxAnd that night, after typing
Out a subtle reply of “goodnight Jimin! See you soon.”, Yoongi went off to sleep with a soft smile on his face.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Yoongi was beginning to get frustrated as the time passed by. The pink haired had agreed to meet the mint haired at 3:30 just as his shift ended from the coffee shop.At 3:57, Yoongi had been waiting for the younger for about 25 minutes, hungry and excited for another one of their foodie adventures- this time trying out another bbq lamb and beef skewer restaurant.“Hyung here!” Jimin exclaimed again as Yoongi finally caught sight of the younger, across the street waving his hands over his head like a mad-man.Yoongi caught eye of the boy, waved back and waited for the light to turn Green before crossing the street. Yoongi smiled at the younger, who returned the smile bright and shining. The tone of vibrant pink in Jimin’s hair had began to fade, the bubblegum colour now a soft pastel shade. The pink locks snuck out from under a black cap, soft and silky. Jimin wore a a white T-shirt paired with tight black jeans and a light-washed denim jacket, tan timberland boots on his feet. Yoongi thought the pink haired looked stunning in his casual outfit.Seeing each other outside of the café had recently become a normal occurrence for the pair. Jimin and Yoongi hung out a lot. May it be the pair challenging each other at the bowling alley across the street from Yoongi’s apartment, or at the mall near the Café where Jimin loves to go play arcade games or even another one of their foodie adventures that the pair would plan out.“Hey hyung! It’s good to see you again! It’s been a week since our last adventure, I’m so excited!” Jimin beamed as soon as Yoongi reached close enough to the sidewalk.“Jimin-ah.. we just met yesterday at the coffee shop.” Yoongi laughed at the younger, finding the boy silly.“But that’s not the same!!” He exclaimed, eyes turning into little moons and smile shining brighter than the sun itself. “Oh hyung.” Jimin said suddenly, turning towards another boy stood next to him. “I hope you don’t mind, I got a friend along.”Yoongi probably wouldn’t have noticed his friend if Jimin hadn’t pointed him out, maybe because he was so mesmerised by Jimin’s smile, maybe because the other boy was so silent. He felt so so silly, but it was true that all his attention was pointed to Jimin whenever he set his eyes on the boy.“Of course not!” Yoongi smiled at the boy, feeling a bit disheartened that he wouldn’t get to spend some alone time with the boy, but quickly shrugged it off.“This is Jeongguk.” Jimin pointed to the boy, “Jungkook, this is Yoongi hyung.” He said pointing back to Yoongi. “Hyung, Jeongguk absolutely loves lamb skewers but nobody ever wants to go with him! I had to invite him over if we were going to that restaurant.”Yoongi knows where that comes from. After years of struggling to get his friends to go eat lamb skewers with him, he knew how somebody would be bothered by the strong smell of the lamb skewers, others simply didn’t like them, and so it was difficult to get his hands on the meal accompanied by someone else. The boy was slightly taller than Jimin, straight and shiny brown hair cut just above his eyes. The boy was slightly broad, black hoodie hugging his arms and tight black jeans hugging his thighs. The boy too, as Jimin was, had been wearing sandy brown timberlands that were maybe just a bit too worn out.“Sure,” Yoongi replied to Jimin. “Hello Jeongguk.” Yoongi smiled. A few months ago, Yoongi would’ve probably been shy and closed off, he probably wouldn’t have given such a warm and huge smile to a stranger back then, however Jimin had rubbed off on Yoongi to an extent that he had learnt to be open and polite to others, and even though Yoongi wouldn’t ever agree, but he did appreciate that he learnt this trait.“Hello. ” Jeongguk bowed his head slightly. The boy seemed very shy and mature, and Yoongi couldn’t help but feel the familiar fondness that he would often feel towards a baby whilst looking at him. “Nice to meet you, Yoongi-ssi..” the boy shyly replied. “Nice to meet you too.” Yoongi replied, beaming at the younger kid. “Please just call me hyung, Jeongguk-ah!” Yoongi smiled warmly.“Alright, hyung...” Jeongguk smiled, “Shall we get going then?” He asked, eyes moving towards Jimin.“Yes please!” Jimin exclaimed, dramatically rubbing his belly. “I’m starved! I can’t wait to try the food!”Yoongi laughed at the boys silly antics, his funny behaviour earning a shy giggle by the youngest too.”Let’s get going, then.” Yoongi offered. — —“Oh Jeonggukie.. you’re so cute!!” Jimin beamed, pinching the younger boys chubby cheeks as the boy protested, moving away from the boy with the crescent eye smiles.“Jiminie stop! Please oh my god!” The boy swatted Jimin’s hands away. “You’re so embarrassing oh my god! It’s not even that funny..”Yoongi smiled at the younger boys, “The story was quite amusing, honestly.” Yoongi laughed. The pair was laughing at a story Joengguk had told them, an embarrassing one at that. Little Jeongguk had mistakenly sat in someone else’s car thinking it was his mother’s, earphones plugged into his ears so that he couldn’t even listen to the lady’s protests until she finally turned around in her seat, furious and ready to call the police! The elder pair couldn’t stop laughing because it was a cute little mistake.“Hyungs!” Jeongguk blushed, hiding his face behind his hands. “Oh god I’m so embarrassed. I haven’t even recovered yet from the incident!!” He laughed a bit.Jimin reaches over the table to ruffle the boys hair as a waiter approached the table with their meal in his hand.“Oh it’s here!” Jimin exclaimed! “It’s here, it’s here!!!” Jimin exclaimed, doing a small dance as the elderly man served the food. The three boys bowed a bit in respect for the man, mumbling a small ‘thank you’.Jeongguk looked up from his hands to the food being settled on the table in front of them. A variety of sides, with bbq lamb and beef skewers, a bowl of spicy cheese and bacon tteokboki (by the request of Jeongguk) and a bowl of ramyeon for sharing settled in front of the trio.“This ones mine!” Jeongguk exclaimed, snatching the meatiest, most juicy looking skewer from the shared lamb skewer dish.“Take as many as you want, you little piggy!” Jimin commented, reaching over to ruffle the boys hair but Jeongguk moved away quickly, sporting an annoyed expression.Jeongguk had opened up a little to Yoongi, his shy nature that was on display at first had completely dissolved into a different boy. Jeongguk was a funny kid, liked to joke and teased Jimin as a hobby. However Jimin could never find it in him to get angry with the boy, Jeongguk was just so loveable.Jeongguk scarfed down the tteokboki, whining and wearing an annoyed expression whenever Jimin moved forward to steal a bite of the rice cakes. Yoongi noticed that the boy liked to eat the meat plain, occasionally picking a wrap of lettuce or kimchi to eat with his skewers.Jimin ate the beef skewers with a generous amount of side dishes, the little pockets of his cheeks filled up like a little mouse as he chewed each bite precisely and hummed in delight every now and then.Yoongi too was quite engrossed in the action of eating. Eating lamb skewers were a rare occasion, and finding partners agreeing to have it with was an even rarer occurrence, he truly enjoyed the boys’ company.“Jeonggukie, is everything ok?” Jimin spoke up mid-chew, head tilted to the side adorably (again, or so Yoongi thought) and eyebrows furrowed. Yoongi noticed that the youngest had stopped eating, chewing on his lips as he looked conflicted, phone in his hand as he stared down at something on the screen.“Hyung- I-“ Jeongguk looked up from his phone, setting it aside and clasping his fingers on the table. “I need to talk to you about something.” He looked at Jimin, desperation laced in his tone, helplessness gracing his face.Yoongi almost felt bad for the poor boy. Jeongguk looked like he had so much to say, like he had been struggling with the thought day and night, conflicted.“Sure Ggukie, go on.” Jimin replied, and Yoongi almost instantly felt a gush of adoration fizz up in him at the soft tone Jimin held, and even the cute nickname he gave to the youngest. “I hope you know that you can talk to me about anything... tell me what’s bothering you.”“Hyung I-“ Jungkook started, looking up from his entwined hands to his hyung, eyes soon darting down back to his hands. “I think- hyung I think I like Taehyung hyung.” The boy confessed, and Yoongi thought back to the times he actually met Taehyung. The bubbly boy with caramel brown locks and the boxy smile. The one who was so close to Jimin that Yoongi once thought that he shared a romantic relationship with the boy, only to be proven wrong each time since they were best friends, soulmates even. And Yoongi could see why Jeongguk would like Taehyung.“Oh well of course! You’ve been such great friends for so long, attached to the hip always! Of course you like him!” Jimin reasoned, seeming like he’s trying to get something out of Jeongguk, feigning innocence. Yoongi too knew better. Yoongi knew, that the young boy wasn’t talking about just liking someone. The boy was talking about an intimate, soft realisation, the whirlpool of emotions that come with affection, the gentle feeling of liking that came before loving. Its silly how Yoongi was a victim of these feelings himself, all for the boy with the pink hair, the boy with the pearly smile and crescent eyes. The boy who was oblivious to Yoongi’s emotions. The sudden realisation sent a family of butterflies in Yoongi’s belly, a flutter of warmth spreading in his chest.“Hyung no.” Jeongguk explained, feeling conscious at the way Jimin’s gaze locked on his face. “I like him the other way, the like-like kinda way you know... like... I might have a huge crush on him..” an enormous blush crept up to Jeongguks face as he looked down. Yoongi controlled his urge to coo at the boy.“Oh my god!” Jimin exclaimed in a beat, hands flying up to his face, shock and excitement, squealing and slightly bouncing in his seat looking overjoyed. “Yah! You little brat I thought you’d never realise it! I knew it! Oh my god hyung I called it!!” Jimin exclaimed, a little too loud for everyone else’s liking but seeing Jimin this excited, eyes shining pearl like and cheeks pulled up into a beautiful smile, Yoongi would never complain.“Wait- Jimin- you knew?” Jeongguk looked at Jimin, looking almost betrayed as he asked his hyung.“Yah thats hyung to you! Brat.” Jimin jokingly burst. “And I wasn’t so sure honestly, I just found it cute how you opened up to tae first and learned to trust others from him. It’s so adorable that he helped you change for the better!” Jimin smiled, hand moving forward to hold Jungkook’s bigger one to offer comfort and support.“Yeah... there’s just something about him. I’m so shy to say it in front of him but, I just feel like- like he brings so much happiness to my life.” Jeongguk added, eyes sparking and smile growing by each minute. “Sometimes I feel like he’s the coolest and most genius guy I’ve ever met! Other times he’s silly and funny too... ahh, he really is special.”“Awh! Look at you get all mushy at the thought of him. I’m so happy!!” Jimin exclaimed, eyes scrunched up and blindingly bright smile lightening up the atmosphere. “When are you going to tell him!?”“I don’t know..” Jeongguk sighed, eyes scrunching for a minute before he continue, “should I even? I mean what if he doesn’t like me, hyung? What we have right now, it’s something special. And I would never want to ruin it. what if I told him, and ruined what we have right now?”“Hey hey Jeonggukie..” Jimin softly whispered, bringing his hands to clutch on the youngers big ones across the table, “you can’t keep him in the dark forever, can you? You respect him right?”. Jeongguk slightly nodded, looking down at the entwined hands kept on the table, and Yoongi almost felt like an outsider in this situation, not knowing what to say, not knowing if he was even allowed to say something.“Then if you respect him, you shouldn’t hide it from him. What if your feelings progressed? It would be difficult for you to maintain what you have with him, won’t it?” Jimin softly asked, and Jungkook nodded again.“But I’m still scared..” Jeongguk said.“Don’t need to be scared Ggukie, I know Taehyungie will be positive about this. You just need to trust him and just tell him honestly.”“I- ok hyung...” Jeongguk smiled, “I’ll ask him soon! Wish for the best!!” Jeongguk kept his hand above Jimin’s, squeezing tightly.“Oh I’m so excited!!” Jimin squealed. “Hyung! You’ve seen tae right?” Jimin asked, bringing Yoongi back to the conversation as he nodded slightly. “Don’t you think they’ll be the cutest together!! Oh my god!! Please tell him soon Ggukkie!” Jimin encouraged the younger, beaming, as Yoongi send a smile and nod of his own.“Yes, I will... let’s get back to eating now! Thanks for you advice hyung!” Jeongguk announced, getting back to his lamb skewer and snatching some beef off of Jimin’s plate.“Yah brat! There’s so much left on the dish! why did you have to take it from my plate!”— —“Today was fun, hyung.” Jeongguk smiles at Yoongi, hands in the pockets of his hoodie, the hood covering his hair. “I hope I see you again, and soon!!” He said, leaning against the wall of his dorm building, the older two felt it was important to drop the younger off since the building was near the restaurant.“Of course!” Yoongi smiled, reaching up to ruffle the youngest hair under his hoodie, “finally found someone who shares interests with me. For lamb skewers at least.”And the younger laughed turning to Jimin. “Bye hyung! Thanks for your advice and for treating me to the skewers, the place was amazing! Let’s go again sometime.”“It’s alright!” Jimin smiled. “You-“ he paused, bringing Jeongguk’s hood further up on his head when a cool breeze passed, “-take care of yourself.” He smiled, resting his hands on the taller boys shoulders, “and don’t worry about tae, just tell him and when you do, tell me how it goes.”“Yes, Sir!” Jeongguk exclaimed, bringing his hand up to salute the older. “I’ll see you both soon, I best be heading in and catching some sleep, 8 am class tomorrow.” He dramatically sighed.“Run along.” Jimin pushed him, and Jeongguk smiled, waving to the both of them, before turning around and walking to the entrance on the building. The pair watched the boy walk away for a minute, before Jimin turned to the elder, “thank goodness the subway station is close by.” He said, rubbing his hands together, “it’s getting kinda chilly, what side do you live?”“South, it’s quite near to the coffee shop actually.” Yoongi explained, blowing into his hands, following Jimin as he started walking towards the station. “I live across the river, north actually. We live quite far.”Yoongi frowned in confusion, “you travel from that far everyday? Just to get to the coffee shop?”“It’s not that far actually, about 30 minutes in the subway? Not a lot. But sometimes I stay with Tae in town, since his place is closer to the university.” He told him, “he always tells me to move in with him but I like my apartment, even if it’s a bit inconvenient to travel everyday, I like it there.”“Hmm, speaking of Taehyung ,” Yoongi started, “Jeongguk‘s a cute kid. I hope it goes well with Taehyung. He seemed to really like him.”“Hyung, just a secret...” Jimin looked up to the older, gravel crunching under his shoes, “Taehyung likes Jungkook too. I just didn’t wanna tell Jungkook because I really wanted Jeongguk to make the first move. Plus it’s more beautiful if they share the moment. ”“Really!?” Yoongi exclaimed, excited for the younger. “That’s great! They’re very lucky.”“I know, they’re very cute.” Jimin smiled, eyes sparkling as he spoke about his two best friends. “I think if you like someone, you should tell them as soon as you get the chance, before it gets too late. I understand it can be difficult, but look for the right time and just say it!”And Yoongi thought, it’s easier said than done. Because here he was, waiting and waiting, and waiting for a chance to tell Jimin how he truly felt. But each time, he just couldn’t gather enough courage.“Jeongguk was right though.. what if you ruin your present relationship with someone just because you wanted to take it to the next level?” Yoongi nervously said. Because really, it’s nerve wracking to think that he would confess to Jimin, only for him to be rejected and ruin the relationship they currently shared.“It’s not necessary that would happen, you can’t keep the other in the dark forever. Before it might slip up or before they might hear it from someone else, it’s best to tell them yourself. Because the other way, you would surely hurt them.” Jimin’s said, a slight skip in his step as they reached the station, “ I don’t know... do you get me?”“Mhm...” Yoongi muttered, wanting to drop the topic now.“Hey hyung, do you have a pass? Or do you wanna buy a ticket?” Jimin inquired as they reached the ticket area.“I have a pass, we’ll have to catch one train together and then part ways on the next station right?” Yoongi said, wanting to ask Jimin if he could come to drop him off but Nowon was too far from where he lived and he didn’t want it to seem weird.“Yeah..” Jimin said beeping his pass. “Come on.”— —The subway was mostly empty, save for the two boys and another lady, who eventually got off on the current stop.Yoongi And Jimin sat across each other, the subway empty and the sound of only the machines whirring filing the atmosphere, Jimin who fell into peaceful slumber some ten minutes ago, and Yoongi being the responsible elder he is, awake to make sure they didn’t end up at the other end of the city by mistake.Yoongi sat staring at the younger, admiring the mop of pastel pink hair messy on his head, his pink lips slightly pouted as soft snores escaped them. And even if Yoongi thought he was slightly creepy for staring, he couldn’t get his eyes off of the younger.Yoongi kept thinking back to his conversation with Jimin. Would he be too sudden to ask the younger on a date? Would he really weird him out and lose their friendship? He didn’t know, but with each minute passing, each minute spent together, Yoongi wanted nothing more than to make the younger his.As the subway took a harsh stop at the next station, Jimin’s lean on the wall of the subway slightly slipped off, him landing on a lower posture, looking rather uncomfortable.Yoongi couldn’t imagine how exhausted the younger might have been to not even wake up at such discomfort, the younger’s eyebrows scrunching up and pout growing fiercer yet himself not waking up.And so, Yoongi decided that he’d go across the seats to sit next to the smaller boy, opting to shift Jimin so that he was leaning on the elder, a protective arm around the youngest shoulder. Yoongi felt so warm, so cozy, that if it wasn’t the fear of being stuck miles away from home, he too would have fallen into deep slumber.Soon, the subway beeped, alarming Yoongi that the next station was in fact, their destination. So Yoongi decided to wake the smaller boy up, so that they could be ready to go out of the subway in time.“Jimin.” He whispered, arm slowly shaking the younger as he groaned and cuddled in closer to him. Yoongi’s breath hitched in his throat, the smell of Jimin’s coconut shampoo filling his nostrils and as much as he wanted to stay in this position forever, he knew he had to wake the younger up.“Jiminnie, our station is close.” He shook the younger a tad bit harder, the boy giving a reply now with the nod of his head.Yoongi pulled back, letting the boy wake up fully as he rubbed his eyes, yawning and stretching like a little kitten.“Hyung~” Jimin purred, sleepy voice velvety and cheeks puffy. “What time is it?” He asked curiously.“It’s rather late, 11:48. Will you be able to catch the next train yourself Jiminie? I could come drop you off if you want. Or you could come over to my place and I could drive you.” Yoongi worried, standing up at the sound of the subway doors opening and leading the younger out with a hand on his back.“No no! Please, I’ll go myself. You’ll have to come to the opposite direction for me.” Jimin exclaimed, arms reaching up to stretch as they walked towards the benches near the LED billboards. The next subway for Jimin would arrive in nearly 15 minutes, and 20 minutes for Yoongi.“You look too sleepy!” Yoongi worried, “don’t want you falling asleep in the train and end up districts away from home now, do we?”“No really! I’m awake now” Jimin smiled, opening his eyes wide to prove his point, however only looking silly in a cute way.“Ok~ if you insist.” Yoongi spoke in a song song voice. Jimin eye-smiled at Yoongi, soon making a silly face this sending Yoongi’s heart into overdrive. He laughed, light and smooth before turning around to eye the LED billboard on the wall opposite to them, eyes scanning the posters put up next to them. Something caught his attention, as he lazily stood up walking towards the blue wall.“Ah.. the light festival.” He sighed, eyeing the picture of the beautiful light display that happens every New Year’s Eve at the amusement park. “It’s so beautiful hyung. If it looks so pretty in just pictures, imagine how beautiful it might be in reality!”“Yea, so pretty.” Yoongi smiled at the boy.“It really is beautiful, like the stars, but bigger and brighter!” Jimin smiled in awe as Yoongi stood up to walk closer to the boy, the boys face slightly lit up by the billboard lights, giving a halo-like effect to his torso.Jimin looked so beautiful to the mint-haired boy, like always. Fragile, delicate and so, so pretty.Yoongi couldn’t help but want to lean in and kiss the younger breathless. To hold the smaller in his arms and ask him to be his.The blossom-haired looked towards Yoongi from the poster, immediately shy under Yoongi’s intense gaze. The younger held his gaze, eyes bright and unblinking. Both unconsciously leaned closer to each other, the younger licked his lips, slightly dazed, slightly nervous, but never once breaking the heated eye contact.“H-hyung...” Jimin whispered, his pretty pretty voice melting in Yoongi’s ears like golden honey. Jimin, sweet sweet Jimin licked his lips again. And both hadn’t noticed how close they had come, at least not before Jimin let out a soft breath that fanned over Yoongi’s upper lip.“Jimin-ah..” Yoongi whispered his name, tone gentle and longing. “Jimin.” He whispered again, quieter than before if that was even possible. The name was sweet on his tongue and he would repeat it again and again if he could. The younger turned pink at that, roses blooming on his oh so pretty cheeks and it was driving Yoongi crazy. Yoongi craved to just reach up and take his soft face into his own calloused palms. So, that’s exactly what he did. With a soft sigh, Yoongi brought his right hand up to Jimin’s full cheeks, the pink-haired males cheek fitting in his hand almost like it was meant to be. With his crooked thumb, Yoongi stroked the smaller boys cheek-bone, both males’ eyes softening together. Jimin leaned his face into the mint-haired males hand, eyelids fluttering, and something akin to longing flashing in his own eyes. The moment was gentle, just like everything associated with Jimin, Yoongi thought. And it felt like they could stay in this moment forever, stood in the middle of an empty subway station, in the late hours of the night, bellies full with the scrumptious meal of bbq, not caring about a single thing except the presence of each other. The couple minutes felt like ages, the boys basking in each other’s presence however, suddenly the moment was cut too short. It was almost as if to spoil the moment, like the universe was suddenly against the two, when the mechanical voice sounded in the empty station, echoing as it notified the boys that the train was close. The boys jumped away, suddenly missing the loss of warmth. They shyly looked around as the subways buzz sounded in the empty station.“M-my trains here..” Jimin announced, shyly scratching the back of his neck and Yoongi thought it was so hot. “I- I guess I’ll see you soon hyung! Thanks for today... it was- it was really fun, so thank you..” Jimin stuttered, almost trying to prolong him leaving, eyes darting to the train that almost came to a stop. “See you around, hyung.” He shyly smiled, quickly running away to stand waiting for the train doors to open.Yoongi was still caught in a daze, eyes slightly gazing with fondness as he saw Jimin walk away. He realised, If he let Jimin go tonight, he might not gather courage to ask him out again. If he really let Jimin walk away from him right now, he might never gather the strength to let him know! And just moments after Jimin entered the train and got himself seated, just moments before the trains automatic sliding doors closed for good, Yoongi slid in to the subway, barely saving his limbs from being caught in the door.“Jimin-ah!” He exclaimed, chest heaving as he panted aggressively, thankful for being able to make it inside in time.“Hyung? Oh my god what are you doing in here! This train’s going to the other side of the city hyung! God you’ll have to travel so far now!” Jimin frantically said, walking closer to the elder man, holding the elders arms as he frantically looked around for a way to stop the bullet train.“Jiminie...” Yoongi whispered, calm and peace flowing through his blood as he looked towards the younger, suddenly feeling brave because he had to say it, he had to just go and say it out loud or else it’ll never be said. “Jiminie, do you want to go to the light festival with me?” He said it.Jimin looked confusedly, head tilting to the side as his eyebrows furrowed and oh god, he looked so, so cute! “Hyung!? You could’ve asked me over the phone! I mean I wouldn’t have said no!! At least it wouldn’t mean that you were going to travel to the other end of the city just to ask me-“ He was cut short.“Hey hey,” Yoongi stopped the younger from rambling out more, hands moving up to cup both of his cheeks as he stared into his deep brown eyes. “It’s a date Jiminie. Would you like to go to the light festival as my date? Just us two? A little different from our usual outings...” and he smiled at the thought. At the thought of Soft, pretty, kind and gentle Jimin going on a date with him.Jimin stood dumbfounded, eyes smiling as he looked into Yoongi’s bright ones. “A d-date? Like, going out? Hyung- like- like not like friends?” Jimin inquires, heart beating fast in his chest and he really thought he was going to collapse from the jittery feeling that was pure happiness.“I like you Jimin-ah.” Yoongi went out and said it. “I like you, a lot. And not just like the great friend you are Jiminie, I like you more than that. Jimin, I like-like you.” He said, referring to the conversation they had with Jeongguk.“Hyung-“ Jimin started, still speechless as he tried to form a dialogue. “Yes, yes I’ll go to the light festival with you hyung.... I like-like you too hyung, a lot!” He smiled, bringing his hand up to rest them on the mint haired boys hands on his cheeks.— —Although it had been maybe half an hour since the confession now, Yoongi was still tingling with happiness and excitement. The smaller boys head rests on Yoongi’s shoulder as he softly holds Yoongi’s hand in his lap drawing shapes into the palm, moving ever so slightly with the motion of the transport. And Yoongi knows, he’s probably going to have to take an hour long travel back to his apartment, and maybe he’ll just be so tired that he’ll sleep in tomorrow till the early hours of the afternoon. Maybe he’ll feel nauseated with the long ride and the constantly moving subway. Maybe his muscles will hurt tomorrow since he got so little sleep. But Yoongi wouldn’t have it any other way. The younger boys head resting on his shoulder, his pink hair ticking the crook of his neck as he provided warmth to the mint-haired, their hands entwined and resting in Yoongi’s lap.Yoongi wouldn’t have it any other way.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Life was good. Yoongi had decided that it couldn’t possibly get better than it is in the moment.
With Jimin sat in front of him at the Tea shop across the café, slowly drinking his iced tea as Yoongi sipped his own. Jimin’s soft and little hands meeting Yoongi’s in the middle of the small two-person table in a gentle grasp, and Yoongi’s smile couldn’t be more genuine.
The two boys had started dating, seeing each other quite often, with Yoongi coming to visit Jimin at the café almost everyday during his breaks, them taking walks from the café to the subway stations after his shift had ended, stealing shy glances at each other when they thought the other wasn’t watching.
Both boys were counting backwards to the day they would be going to the light festival, and with not a lot of days left, constant butterflies erupted in their bellies at the thought of the possibly beautiful night.
The weather was beginning to get slightly warmer, still not quite spring, but going there. Yoongi prayed that by the time of the light festival, beautiful cherry blossoms would bloom and the warm sunlight of spring would bless them.
Jimin was the sweetest. Almost too sweet with his sugary smiles and his honey dripping voice and the gentle comfort that his mere presence provided. Yoongi was falling more and more in love with the boy each day, but he took one step at a time with the boy because he knew the younger deserved patience and care and so much love.
With Jimin leaving the Tea shop for his lecture at college, he graced Yoongi with the beautiful smile of his and moved forward to gently embrace the elder, cheek resting on his shoulder and a soft whisper of ‘see you later, hyung’ in his ear. Yoongi ran his fingers through his soft faded locks of pink hair as a goodbye, smiling at the boy, genuine and full of love.
Watching Jimin’s silhouette shrink further as he walked away, a warm feeling residing in Yoongi’s chest, Yoongi decided that he’s never been happier. Yoongi decided, that life is good.
— —
“Yoongi hyung,” a familiar thick voice broke Yoongi’s concentration from the book he was reading, something Namjoon had highly recommended. “Hi, can I sit here?”
Yoongi had come to spend some time with Jimin as he worked at the café. Upon
entering the café Jimin’s eyes lit up as he rushed towards Yoongi from the person he’d been serving, giving him a hug and a soft “Hi hyung, I missed you”.
The inflow of customers since then had drastically increased, it being the peak hour as people came for their lunch breaks or to grab a coffee on the way back from their colleges. This meant that Jimin had to get back to work, no time to spare as customers piled their orders one by one.
Yoongi had resorted to the table for two by the window, had chosen to grab his book out of his bag to pass his time. A few moments later, Jimin had sent through a fellow employee a plate of chocolate chip cookies for Yoongi and a glass of milk to go with it. Yoongi had looked up and offered Jimin a soft smile, breaking a cookie in half and munching on it while he read.
However, his reading in solitude had been interrupted by a neat looking Taehyung. A bag slung over his shoulder as he held a macchiato in one hand, his earphones and cellphone in the other.
“Of course, Taehyung-ah. Have a seat.” Yoongi encouraged, pointing to the seat right ahead of him.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you,” Taehyung urged as he took a seat, taking a large sip out of his drink and offering a smile to Yoongi. “I didn’t know you were here, was passing by to check in on Jiminie and saw you sitting.”
“Oh no, not at all.” Yoongi smiled, “Would you like a cookie?” He offered Taehyung, moving his plate towards the boy.
“Oh yes, thank you.” Taehyung smiled, looking as if he was waiting to speak about something.
After a moment of comfortable silence, Taehyung broke the quiet. “Actually hyung,” he started, dropping the cookie on a tissue kept in front of him, “I wanted to talk about something, if you don’t mind, really.”
Yoongi’s nerves hit him as he thought about what Taehyung was willing to speak to him about. The only mutual interest he knew about between the art major and himself was Jimin. “Yea sure, go ahead. I’m all ears.”
“It’s about Jiminie.” Taehyung continued. “Jimin talks about you a lot, he’s very fond of you.” Taehyung smiled. “Uh, I don’t know if you’re going out with each other, or if you’re just friends, which in that case, I’m sorry if I’m freaking you out.” He laughed a nervous laugh, smiling a bit, eyes distant as he continued, “just- you should know that Jimin is really special.”
Yoongi nodded eagerly, warmth spreading in his chest thinking about the strong bond both friends had, Taehyung wanting to protect Jimin.
“He’s gentle, and he’s very kind. He gives and gives and gives and never expects anything in return but he deserves just that much more.” Taehyung looked up from the spot he was staring at on the table, straight into Yoongi’s eyes holding emotion as he said, “Please don’t hurt him, hyung. Don’t make feel negative about anything. I don’t know if it’s my place to say this, but I care about him so even though he might not recognise that he needs care and affection, shower him with as much as you can and eventually he will see how important he is. He deserves it.” Taehyung smiled.
Yoongi smiled an honest, genuine smile back, hands reaching forward to clutch on Taehyung’s as it rested on the table, gripping reassuringly. “I really like Jimin, Taehyung-ah. I like him a lot, and I’ll treat him well, I promise. I know he deserves to be loved and appreciated, so I’ll make him feel loved and give him so much care.” He assured Taehyung, smile on his face.
Taehyung nodded, a relieved smile on his face, tension and awkwardness rising from his shoulders. “Thank you, I’ll trust you hyung.” Taehyung rested his hand on Yoongi’s.
“Thank you for trusting me.” Yoongi replied, as they fell into a comfortable silence, both looking out the window.
“He’s really lucky to have you as a friend, Taehyung-ah. You really care about him.” Yoongi offered, sipping his milk.
“I’m the lucky one, to have him in my life.” Taehyung smiled, “and now, so are you.”

Later when Yoongi walked Jimin out of the café, insisting on walking the younger to the subway station before he went home, Jimin inquired “Hey hyung, what were you and Taehyungie talking about? You looked quite serious there.”
“It’s a secret!” Yoongi replies teasingly, his index finger over his lips as he ‘shh’-ed at Jimin.
“Oh tell me! I’m your mutual, I should know!” Jimin said jokingly.
“Mmm” Yoongi posed so he looked like he was deep in thought, “Just the important stuff to know is that it was something we really care about, and don’t want to lose.” Yoongi offered, pressing Jimin closer to his side as they walked on the streets with the sun going down.
Jimin smiled, resting his head on Yoongi’s shoulder as they walked, entwining their hands. He had an idea of their topic of discussion.
‘Somebody.’ Jimin wanted to correct, instead continued walking, head resting between Yoongi’s shoulder and neck as the pinks and oranges and yellows of the sky merged into each other.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
“Do you think this looks okay?” Yoongi muttered, eyes trained on his own reflection as he smoothed his white button down shirt, making sure it paired well with his blue jeans.
“Of course hyung… Your outfit looks great!” Hoseok exclaimed, lying on his back on Yoongi’s bed with his phone resting on his stomach. “Loosen up your hair a bit!” He added, standing up and walking towards Yoongi.
With his hair dye fading and his natural roots growing out, Yoongi decided it was wise to dye his hair a natural colour for the season change. The recently dyed black locks framed his face naturally, bringing out his beautiful facial features.
“You don’t think i should style them back today?” Yoongi asked Hoseok, running his hair through his fingers. “He hasn’t seen me since i dyed my hair black…” he trailed off, referring go Jimin.
It had been a few weeks since Jimin and Yoongi saw each other since Yoongi had to visit his hometown for his cousins wedding. In this time, they boys had stayed in touch through texts mostly, letting each other know about their day.
“No way Hyung!” Hoseok said, ruffling his fingers through Yoongi’s silky hair and setting them in a natural style. “Trust me, they look better this way… And you look so handsome!” Hoseok emphasised, clapping his hands on Yoongi’s shoulders as he examined his look in the reflection.
“Okay, I’ll take your word for it…” Yoongi sighed, turning around and walking to his dresser, pulling out his wristwatch, wallet and other essentials he carries.
Hoseok walked towards him, pushing his hands in his jeans as he asked “What time are the fireworks? Will you be back late?”
“The fireworks start at 11 pm so I’m sure i wont be back early.” Yoongi muttered, buckling his wristwatch and moving to push his wallet into his jean pocket. “Hopefully the entire day isn’t too tiring and all goes as planned!” He looked up at the younger, smiling at him.
“Yea, have a good date hyung!!” Hoseok smiled back, teasing Yoongi.
“Thanks Hobs…” Yoongi replied, blush forming on his face at the thought. Yoongi walked out of his bedroom making his way towards the exit. Pulling his black boots on, Yoongi made sure he had the keys to his car as he unlocked the door to his apartment.
“I’m leaving now Hoseok!” He called out to him, “Make sure you lock the doors when you leave, okay?” Yoongi reminded.
“Don’t worry hyung!” Hoseok replied, walking into the living room. “I’m just leaving in a bit anyways! Have fun!”
“Thanks! You too!” Yoongi smiled over his shoulder. “See you later!” He said, closing the door behind him as he walked to the elevators.
Pressing his clammy fingers to the elevator call button, Yoongi felt his stomach tingling with nerves as the thought of their date crossed his mind.
Yoongi really hoped that the night would be as beautiful and memorable for the both of them as he pictured it, surrounded by beautiful lights.
As the elevator arrived to his floor, Yoongi let out a sigh and stepped into it, shakily wiping his clammy hands on his jeans.
He pressed the button to basement where his car was waiting for him, hoping and praying that the date goes on smoothly…
— —
“Hey hyung!” Taehyung smiled from the doorway, welcoming Yoongi into his humble abode with a huge smile. “Come in!” He exclaimed.
“Hey kid,” Yoongi replied stepping in, holding the bouquet of flowers tighter in his hand as he waited for Taehyung to lock the door behind him. “Is he dressed?” Yoongi asked, referring to Jimin.
“Yeah i think he’s dressed,” Taehyung replied to Yoongis question, walking him to his living room. “I told Jeonggukie to go get him when i buzzed you in so they should be out any minute!” He said, pointing to a room in the back which he assumed was his bedroom.
When they were discussing their commute to the festival, Yoongi insisted he would pick Jimin up in his car despite Jimin’s resistance and reassurance that he would be fine travelling in the subway to meet Yoongi at their spot.
After hours of disagreement, they finally met a middle ground and Jimin had suggested that he’d get dressed at Taehyung’s apartment after work, saving Yoongi and Jimin the commute. Later when Jimin called to ask Taehyung, he had happily agreed to hosting his friend.
“You look great, Hyung!” Taehyung exclaimed, “and the flowers are beautiful! Jimin’s going to love them.” He said with a smile on his face.
“Thanks!” Yoongi replied, delighted. “I hope he does…” he added.
“Let me go get you something to drink,” Taehyung said moving to a door in the back which Yoongi assumed was his kitchen, “have a seat and make yourself comfortable!” He told Yoongi.
“Thanks! Just waters fine..” Yoongi called out as Taehyung’s figure disappeared into the tiny kitchenette.
Yoongi sat down after placing the Bouquet of Flowers on the coffee table surrounded by a mix of couches and floor arrangements.
Taehyung’s home was beautiful, he noticed. A cozy and small apartment it seemed, neat looking but also lived-in, and littered with tiny touches of Taehyung’s personality. The warmly lit living area had little art pieces decorated throughout, the contrasting colours creating an oddly satisfying arrangement.
While Yoongi was admiring the space, he noticed the door opening as a young man stepped out.
“H-Hey…” he said, unable to speak more than that being mesmerised by Jimin’s figure approaching him.
Jimin looked breathtaking in a blue button down shirt tucked into his black slacks, an accessory belt snug on his waist. A delicate chain adorned his neck as it peeked from where he had unbuttoned his shirt, collarbones peeking. Dainty silver rings glittered on his fingers and he wore a small pair of hoops on both ears.
What surprised Yoongi the most was that he too had dyed his hair colour black, matching his own. The colour looked beautiful in his hair, fluffy locks shining under the living room lamp.
“Hey Yoongi-hyung!” Jeongguk stepped into the room, breaking the short moment of silence. “Wait, You both dyed your hair Black!? Thats so cool, man! Like Telepathy or something…” Jeongguk said, making his way to the Kitchenette.
“You look beautiful, Jimin.” Yoongi smiled, his hand reaching up to gently caress the boys cheek.
“Thanks hyung!” Jimin beamed at Yoongi, “You look really handsome yourself! The hair colour really suits you and your hair looks really healthy too.”
“Thanks!” Yoongi replied happily, leaning in to kiss the boy’s cheek gently. “These are for you.” He reached for the bouquet, handing the flowers to Jimin.
“Oh hyung, you didn’t have to…” Jimin blushed, eyes shining as he observed the beautifully arranged bouquet. “They’re lovely!” He expressed, leaning in to smell them.
“I’m really glad you liked them,” he said, raising his arm to view his wristwatch, “we should leave now if we want to enter before the rush hour! What do you say?” He asked, lowering his arm.
“I say, lets go! I’m really excited!” Jimin giggled, reaching out to intertwine his hand with Yoongi’s.
Butterflies erupted in the pits of Yoongi’s belly at the gesture, a huge grin making its way to his face as he squeezed at Jimin’s hand gently. Yoongi loved holding hands, but was often shy to initiate the gesture.
Jimin smiled back, pulling Yoongi to the exit. “We’re leaving, guys!” He announced, pulling his black boots on in the doorway.
“Wait!” Taehyung called back in urgency, “I made tea for us! Don’t you have a few more minutes before you have to leave?”
“No, Tae! We gotta leave now before its too late!” Jimin said politely just as Taehyung too appeared in the doorway.
“Awhh!” Taehyung whined, “sorry Yoongi hyung, its the first time you’re over and i couldn’t even offer you something!” He added, guilty.
“Thats no problem Taehyung-ah!” Yoongi reassured, “I’d loved to be invited back! Your home is beautiful.”
Taehyung visibly lit up, smiling a huge boxy grin, “Sure! And thank you…” He shyly said, happiness radiating off him.
Jimin walked up to Taehyung giving him a hug and handing him the bouquet, “Keep them safe for me, okay?” He said, adding “I’m going to come back for them..”
Yoongi smiled at that as Taehyung nodded. Jimin then smiled at Yoongi and walked over to intertwine their fingers again. “Lets go.” He whispered.
“Bye-bye hyung-nims!” Jeongguk said just as Yoongi and Jimin turned around, Jimin unlocking the door, “Have fun!” He added.
“Thanks Jungkookie! See the both of you later…” Jimin smiled as Yoongi too whispered a thanks .
Both black-haired boys walked to Yoongi’s car, glowing with glee and excitement.
— —
The car ride was peaceful, filled with comfortable silence as the radio played on a very very low volume setting. The afternoon sunlight filtered through the windows and the sunroof, and the sky glowed a pretty orange hue with clouds littered all around.
Jimin and Yoongi’s hands met in the middle, resting on Yoongi’s thigh as he drove. His eyes were set on the road ahead but a small, tiny hint of a smile sat on the corner of his lips.
In about half an hour, the couple reached the venue. A huge and beautifully decorated gate led them to the parking lot, and luckily not many people had arrived yet so Yoongi found a decent spot.
Yoongi quickly got out of the car, running around it to open Jimin’s door for him. Smiling, Jimin got out. “Thats too cliché.” He giggled and Yoongi shrugged, offering his elbow for Jimin to latch on.
“Shall we?” Yoongi asked, wiggling his eyebrow in question.
“Yes, kind sir.” Jimin replied, latching onto his arm with a giggle and a smile, and the two of them started walking to the entrance of the venue.
After waiting in queue for a bit, they finally passed their ticket over the counter and were handed two wristbands in exchange. Helping each other wear the wristbands, they made their way inside feeling awed gazing at the beautiful set up.
Since it was some time before sunset, the sun shone moderately, not blindingly bright but enough to provide some light. Gorgeous floral arrangements littered the venue with beautiful canopies sheltering the little corridors made for different stalls.
A tall ferris wheel sat at the edge of the venue, right next to the creek. Little boats float over the creekside awaiting passengers, beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and velvet cushions.
“I don’t know how they manage to make this place more and more beautiful each year.” Jimin breathed out, awed by the arrangement.
“It’s beautiful,” Yoongi sighed out, turning to Jimin. “Its my first time here,” he confessed, “but i regret not coming here in the past years!”
“Now you’re here,” Jimin said, smiling a sweet smile, “with me…” he added.
“Now who’s being cliché?” Yoongi teased, wiggling his eyebrow at the younger as Jimin laughed.
With the sun setting soon, Yoongi led Jimin to the ferris wheel. He made sure the day was going according to plan, not being a minute later or earlier, just perfectly on time.
With the VIP bands he paid extra for, they didn’t have to wait in line and got into a booth fairly quickly instead.
Sitting opposite each other to balance the ride, the pair smiled at each other as they ascended toward the sky slowly and gradually. They took in the beautiful view of the creekside, the sun setting in distance creating a wonderful mix of colours in the sky.
“Its so lovely.” Jimin said in awe, drinking in the beauty of their surroundings.
“Mhm,” Yoongi whispered in awe himself, turning his face towards Jimin’s. Jimin’s face glowing in the setting sun, his features relaxed as he looked around in fascination. And every time Yoongi looked at Jimin, the younger would take his breath away.
When the sun disappeared in the distance, leaving the venue gloomy and dark, within seconds the venue was lit up again! The pair gasped as they looked at the light arrangements coming to life from the height they were at. Glamorous and bright lamps and beautiful canopies lit up the entire area, looking like a heavenly sight.
The boats were decorated with delicate lights all around and the creekside shone with wonderful lamps. At their height, they were gazing at the beautiful stars on earth, constellations covering the entire venue making it a priceless sight.
“That was beautiful!” Yoongi expressed, referring to the sudden change as the lights came to life.
“Thank you, hyung.” Jimin said, reaching out for Yoongi’s hand, “I’ve been here several times but i never thought to see the event this way…”
Yoongi beamed at Jimin, feeling extremely happy that he was successful in making Jimin happy, “You’re welcome!” He said, leaving out the part where he tells him that it was his Jin hyungs idea.
As their little cabin reached the bottom, the pair stepped out making their way to the tiny stalls. Yoongi led Jimin to the food stalls, waiting for him to make a choice as he pondered. They settled on cheese corndogs and a shared bowl of tteokbokki, a meal that was as easy to carry and eat as it was delicious.
They walked around eating their meal, and viewing the beautiful art work made from lights. At one point, after Yoongi finished his corndog, he reached for Jimin hand shyly. Jimin noticed, and pulled his fingers into his own silently. And they fit together perfectly.
Yoongi attempted a shooting game to try and win Jimin a huge teddy, failing miserably at every attempt, scratching his head as Jimin insisted to stop trying and wasting his money.
But as Jimin walked away from the stall to the next, the kind stall owner whispered to Yoongi and offered him a teddy, claiming it was a gift from her to the handsome and lovely couple . With the date passing by smoothly and beautifully, the pair walked around hand in hand with Holly - Jimin named the teddy - tucked in Jimin’s arm. Basking in each others company, they pair never realised how fast the time had passed, and the time for the firework show had arrived. Yoongi pulled Jimin with him to a secluded area along the creekside, behind the stalls with a tiny patch of grass. He laid out his handkerchief for Jimin to sit on, and Jimin giggled calling him a gentleman .
When the two were sat on the grass, they turned to each other, their faces close as they gazed into each other’s eyes. Since this place was behind the stalls, not much light surrounded them. But the moon cascaded a cool glint in their eyes and hair and made them look breathtaking to each other.
Within moments, the fireworks began. Huge explosions in the sky erupted colours all around them. Their gazes locked to the sky above them as the sky glittered with sparkles of the fireworks, orange light mixing into pink light mixing into blue light all over the dark canvas of the night sky. Music surrounded them, a soft song which almost choreographed the lights above them.
And midway through the show, the pair turned to each other, hands meeting each others in the middle and eyes locked. They leaned in capturing each others lips gently. And Jimin’s hands moved from Yoongi’s shoulders to his waist. And Yoongi’s hands moved from Jimin’s neck to his cheeks.
And that night when Yoongi walked Jimin from his car to his apartment door, he shyly asked him if he would like to be his boyfriend. And Jimin beamed at him, told him yes with his eyes shining bright and his cheeks hurting from how hard he was smiling.
And then Jimin again pulled him in for a kiss, ending their beautiful first date, and beginning their wonderful journey ahead.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
“And he’s so handsome! He has such pretty features and a really pretty smile, you know?” Jimin smiled, scrubbing the counter to clean all spills. “I wonder how old he is…” he pondered.
Taehyung walked up behind him, placing his hand on his shoulder with a sigh, “My boy, you’re crushing on a customer…” he said, matter-of-factly.
“Right!?” Jimin agreed, thinking he was ridiculous for that. “And i don’t even know if he’s taken or single! And i want to hangout with him more but i can’t even ask for his number ‘cause i get so shy around him!” Jimin exclaimed in the empty coffee shop. He turned around and walked to the coffee machine, cleaning off coffee grounds scattered on the countertop.
“You’re being so stupid right now Jimin!” Taehyung told him, folding his arms on his chest. “Just ask him if he’s single and if he is then ask for his number!” He said, knowing himself that it is easier said than done, but just wanting to encourage his friend regardless.
“I’m worried I’ll scare him away…” Jimin worried, biting on his lower lip as he avoided eye contact with Taehyung.
“Hey listen,” Taehyung grabbed his attention, walking towards the worried boy. “Don’t you believe that you shouldn’t keep the other in the dark forever?” He asked, “thats what you told me when i told you about Jeongguk, right?”
“Yeah but-“ Jimin prepared himself to argue but was soon cut off by a determined Taehyung.
“Before it might slip, or before they hear it from someone else, you gotta tell them so you don’t hurt them.” Taehyung quoted, “thats what you told me right? So you should take a chance instead of just thinking about possibilities and sulking…”
Jimin sighed, looking Taehyung in the eye. “You’re right…” he whispered, leaning in to hug the taller boy in thanks. Taehyung returned the hug, running a comforting hand over his back.
“Stop overthinking, you big goof” Taehyung said, “come on! Get back to work.”
“Rude…” Jimin said, pulling back from the hug and slapping his hand to the backside of Taehyung’s head as a punishment.
“Heyyy!” Taehyung protested, holding a hand to the back of his head. “I’ll make you play for that!“ he said, quickly advancing towards Jimin with wiggly hands, tickling his neck and waist.
“Yah Tae! I’m working!!” Jimin giggled, trying to move away from Taehyung’s hands before the younger boy nuzzled his chin into Jimin’s neck as an attack.
The boys were so distracted by each others antics that they failed to notice an awkward looking Yoongi standing at the cash register.
“Oh? Hyung!” Jimin stiffened upon setting his eyes on the elder “What can I get for you today? The usual?...” he quickly fumbled to hide his embarrassment.
“The usual yes...” Yoongi smiled back at him, and Jimin felt more at ease as he saw the pretty smile. Just then, Jimin saw Yoongi awkwardly eyeing Taehyung who stood beside him.
“Oh Tae!” Jimin said, realising he never introduced Yoongi to him. “Hyung, this is my best friend Taehyung!” He pointed to Taehyung, and saw realisation flashing Yoongis face. “and tae, this is Yoongi hyung.”
Just then, Taehyung’s eyes lit up in recognition, realising he was standing face to face with THE Min Yoongi! Jimin’s recent raging crush and the cause of his angst.
Jimin, afraid that Taehyung (the bigmouth he is) might speak something he shouldn’t, looked towards him nervously, hoping they would meet eye contact and he would be able to signal him.
But Taehyung began to speak, realisation dawning upon him. “Ah! I’ve heard so much abou-“ he said before he was cut off by a swift elbow to his ribs by Jimin, effectively shutting him up.
Yes, Jimin had a huge crush on the man but No, he didn’t need to know that just yet.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
When Jeongguk asked Taehyung out to dinner, Taehyung was surprised.
The two hung out together often, sometimes at the arcade, or the mall, a few times at the amusement park, and that one time at the art gallery Taehyung really wanted to go to.
And afterwards, they always got dinner! Sometimes at the tiny pizza shop with really cheap but satisfying pizza, other times the mall food court where Taehyung used all the newspaper coupons he collected, and mostly they were found at the tteokbokki and eomuk stall where the owner, a sweet grandmother, gave both boys way more than the serving sizes because they were
growing boys who needed nutrition.
But going out Just for dinner wasn’t something they usually did. It was unusual but Taehyung still told himself that it wasn’t so unusual that he should feel worried.
When he asked Jeongguk where they were going, the boy just told him to dress fancy on Saturday, 7 pm. When he asked the occasion, the boy told him not to worry about it. But strangely, not knowing made him worry more.
— —
When Saturday came around, it was storming outside. Heavy rains fell on the city all night long with crazy winds swooshing. Taehyung hadn’t seen weather so crazy in years, thunder roaring and lightning flashing every few seconds creating a gloomy and scary atmosphere.
Jeongguk had called Taehyung, apologising about how they wouldn’t be able to continue with their dinner program because of the hellish weather. As disappointed as he was, Jeongguk told him that he promised he would reschedule, and that Taehyung should stay home since it was crazy outside.
Taehyung reassured him that he wouldn’t go out in this weather, especially because it scares him so much. When he said that, something changed in Jeongguk’s voice. Concern and worry tainted his voice as he asked Taehyung if he’s okay.
Taehyung reassured the boy, telling him he’s alright, just a little worried about the weather and a little scared. Jeongguk didn’t seem convinced that Taehyung is actually okay, but ended the phone call with a
take care
and a
see you soon
.
And after the phone call ended Taehyung buried himself further into his blanket, just hoping he wasn’t home alone right now.
— —
Hours later, the rain didn’t calm even the slightest bit. A while back he had a text conversation with Jimin, where both of them asked each others whereabouts and if they’re safe and sound.
But now, as loud raindrops slapped all surfaces outside creating a satisfying sound, Taehyung felt so so bored staring out from his window looking over the mostly empty street.
What he least expected was his doorbell ringing. Who could it be? He wasn’t expecting any visitors, especially in this weather.
Taehyung got out of his little blanket fort he made on the couch by the window and walked across the living room without wearing his home slippers.
He buzzed the intercom, asking “hey, who is it?”
He didn’t expect the voice he heard next. An urgent “Hyung! Its me! Let me in!” was yelled over the loud noise of the rainfall against the street.
“Jeongguk?“ he asked, urgently. When he heard a hasty “yeah!” on the other end, wasting no time he pressed the button to open the gate so Jeongguk could come in.
He quickly opened the front door, waiting for the younger to make his way up the stairs so he could ask him why he left his dorm when it was raining cats and dogs outside.
Within a minute, a panting Jeongguk appeared climbing up the staircase, black hoodie drenched in rainwater as he held onto a broken umbrella and some grocery store bags.
“Jeongguk- what?” Taehyung muttered, standing at the doorstep of his apartment utterly dumbfounded.
“Hey hyung!” Jeongguk beamed at Taehyung, walking towards his home. Even though the boy had his hoodie covering his head, wet strands of his hair peaked from underneath worrying Taehyung that the Younger might catch a cold.
“What happened?!” Taehyung asked as Jeongguk walked past him to make his way into the apartment, walking straight into his kitchenette to drop the grocery bags there.
“Man, I was walking from the grocery store on the corner to your apartment and a huge wind blew breaking my umbrella!” The younger whined, “and i just bought this one too!” He complained, pouting.
“No Jeongguk!” Taehyung said, emerging from the utility cabinet with a clean towel. “I mean what are you doing here? Why did you leave your dorm in this crazy weather to come here?!” He asked, laying the towel on Jeongguk’s head and gently patting to dry his drenched locks.
“I came over ‘cause I wanted to spend time with you.” Jeongguk said, eyes peering honestly into Taehyung’s as he paused drying his hair to look at Jeongguk’s face, “I thought you’d be lonely so i came over to see you…”
“Jeongguk…” Taehyung started, cheeks heating up and he stood there speechless not knowing what to say or how to react to this revelation.
His thoughts, however, were soon interrupted with Jeongguk scrunching up his nose to proceed into a baby sneeze.
Taehyung laughed at the boy as he regained his posture after the sneeze. “Stupid…” he said, giggling some more, pulling him towards his bathroom.
“Take a warm shower,” he instructed. “I’ll leave you some clothes on the bed to change into after your shower.”
“Thanks…” Jeongguk muttered, shutting the door of the bathroom as Taehyung walked away.
After setting a dark blue lounge set on his bed with a new pair of boxers, Taehyung made his way into the kitchen to warm some milk and prepare for hot chocolate for the younger boy.
The boy couldn’t help but feel butterflies in his stomach thinking about how Jeongguk came in such bad weather and risky conditions just for him, just to spend time with him.
As each day passes, Taehyung can’t help but admire the younger more and more, falling in love with him a bit more.
— —
After Jeongguk’s very quick shower, the boys sipped at the warm hot chocolate prepared by Taehyung. The sun was still out but it was slowly getting darker outside. The rain had stilled for maybe half an hour before thunder starting roaring again outside, and in only a few minutes the pitter patter had begun again.
Taehyung sat on the chair near the tiny kitchenette, legs hoisted on the shelf, accompanying Jeongguk as he worked on dinner. The ingredients he brought from the store earlier were so he could cook a small dinner, and so Jeongguk insisted Taehyung let him prepare seomthing easy.
Taehyung played music for them as Jeongguk chopped and stir-fried vegetables, the aroma of the dinner in preparation was tempting to Taehyung, considering he hadn’t had a proper meal since the night before.
“Aah…” Jeongguk prompted, holding a spoon to Taehyung’s face after blowing on it to cool it down a bit. “Does it need more salt?” He asked as Taehyung licked off the pasta sauce from the spoon.
“Mmmmh…” Taehyung commented, signalling a thumbs up towards the younger. “Its delicious! Hurry up I’m so hungry!” He whined, pouting at Jeongguk.
Taehyungs expression brought a smile to Jeongguk’s face as he nodded. “Its almost done!” He said, “Why don’t you set the utensils on the table as i mix the pasta, huh?” He suggested.
Taehyung got up from his seat instantly, grabbing the utensils from the kitchen counter and making his way to the living area. He cleared the centre table in the living room and set the utensils for the two.
“Do you want cola or sprite?” He called out to Jeongguk as he walked over to his fridge.
“Cola, please!” Jeongguk replied, serving the pasta in a big dish and the veggie and meat stir-fry in a smaller one. The meal was no feast, but Jeongguk poured his heart into cooking it for Taehyung and himself. “Help me take these to the table please, hyung!” Jeongguk called Taehyung, holding the bigger dish.
And with all the food set in front of them, sitting cross legged on the living room floor, the pair devoured the meal basking in each others presence.
— —
After eating and clearing up the utensils - Taehyung had to stop Jeongguk from washing the dishes - the boys sat on the living room couch with their feet propped on the table, enjoying a re-run of some rom-com playing on the movie channel.
While they sat on the corners of the couch when they started, as the movie progressed the boys gradually got rid of the distance between them, Taehyung’s head on Jeongguk’s shoulder and his hand resting in Jeongguk’s lap.
It happened suddenly, the boys were laughing at the two characters on the screen before they faced each other and their gazes locked. Honest eyes peered into each others as they leaned in closer and closer until it was too close, wanting to melt into each other.
And just that moment, realisation hit Taehyung… and as much as he wanted this, the boy closed his eyes sighing before leaning away. He awkwardly looked at his hands, hoping Jeongguk didn’t catch on to his intention, and shook his feeling off.
“Should i go make some popcorn?” He asked, in attempt to lighten the mood. He couldn’t meet eyes with Jeongguk right now, having almost exposed his feelings to the younger when he wasn't ready.
Taehyung stood up, making his way to the kitchenette. He slightly turned back to see Jeongguk, an unreadable expression clouding his face as he ran his hands through his hair. Taehyung turned back towards the kitchen, trying his best to act normal, but just then Jeongguk stood up and walked past him, announcing that he had to leave. And Taehyung didn’t understand. It was midnight and the weather was crazy outsite, winds howling and raindrops clapping.
“Where are you going, Jeongguk?” Taehyung asked urgently, following the younger as he slipped his slippers on and worked the lock on the door quickly.
“I need to go…” he replied, determined. His expression was stone hard and Taehyung had never seen the younger this way. Only soft, kindness in his expression with sparkling eyes with warm smiles.
“What happened?” Taehyung inquired, slipping into his own slippers and running behind the younger boy as he made his way down the stairs. “Its too late to go home right now Jeongguk-ah? Sleep over tonight, please!” He insisted, met with no reply as Jeongguk raced down the steps.
“Listen to me,” he began getting frustrated, following closely but the younger was too fast. “Listen! It isn’t safe right now! Look at the damn weather, Jeongguk!“ He added, as the younger advanced towards the exit without looking.
Jeongguk stepped out without any umbrella, no coat covering his arms. He just ran into the street carelessly and Taehyung followed.
“Stop Jeongguk!” Taehyung exclaimed, raindrops wetting his body quickly, and Taehyung started to feel angry and frustrated at the lack of communication from the younger. “at least tell me whats wrong!” He snapped, grabbing Jeongguk’s arm and turning him around.
“Whats wrong?” Jeongguk turned around, the rain pelting on him and by now he was drenched. Water poured down his face and neck, and he brought his hand up to push his hair out of his eyes annoyedly. “Hyung you want to know whats wrong, huh? Whats wrong is that i cant get you out of my mind!” He said, anger tainting his tone.
“What?” Taehyung asked, confused. “Jeongguk-“ he started, but was soon cut off.
“I think about you all day and all night Hyung!” Jeongguk added, “When you’re there with me, all I look at is you! When you aren’t there with me, all I think about it you!” He said, frustration dying slowly.
“I love you hyung…” Jeongguk whispered, “I’m stupidly, crazily and irrevocably in love with you,” he added, lowering his head in defeat. “And you pushed me away…”
Taehyung stood, speechless. His brain couldn’t comprehend the words the younger had just told him. Jeongguk was in love with him, he loved him back and Taehyung felt a strange mix of relief and confusion cloud his judgement.
“I-“ Jeongguk started, pausing and rubbing his face with his hands, realising his slip up and how this would change everything between them. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I’m so sorry hyung.” He added, looking up from the wet pavement at Taehyung’s unmoving, unresponsive figure.
Jeongguk walked up to Taehyung, placing his hands on Taehyung’s shoulder before speaking again, “hyung, don’t worry about this okay? This is my problem-“ he started to speak but was cut off with Taehyung’s eyes meeting his own, leaving him breathless.
With eyes locked, Taehyung leaned in slowly. Taehyung’s lips entwined with Jeongguk’s slowly, a gentle but passionate gesture. Jeongguk stood in shock, but soon melted, kissing Taehyung back passionately.
When they broke off, Taehyung rested his forehead against Jeongguk’s, softly whispering “I love you too, stupid…” He looked into Jeongguk’s eyes and added “I’m sorry I got so weird upstairs… I didn’t want it to be awkward for you so I brushed it off, trying to act cool. I needed you to be okay, i didn’t want to spoil our relationship.” He said guiltily.
But Jeongguk only laughed softly, “I love you.” He whispered, hands cupping Taehyung’s cheeks gently as he planted a kiss on his forehead. “And I'm sorry for lashing out at you.”
And with the rain pelting over them, water cascading down their faces mixed with their happy tears, the moonlight shining over them and the dark and dead street. Taehyung looked into Jeongguk’s eyes “I’m in love with you, Jeon Jeongguk…” he said again, moving stray strands out of Jeongguk’s eyes and tucking them behind his ears.
In a moment of glee, so grateful that his Hyung returned his feeling, Jeongguk smiled brightly, catching Taehyung’s lips into a passionate kiss.
And the next morning was beautiful, the sun was finally out after that awful rain spell. The couple, down with an awful cold, cuddled all day in bed, legs tangled with each other as they sneezed into the air around them. But they wouldn’t have it any other way, warm in each others arms peppering kisses over each other all day.
