Izuku was a very honest kid, it was just among his best traits, Inko would think out loud as they made breakfast. But he really wasn’t, or he wished he wasn’t. Izuku just refused to lie, or more like, he didn’t know how to lie, and if he ever tried to do it, the truth would slip through eventually. He didn’t have it in him. The idea of being caught in a little make-believe story made his stomach churn, so he tended to state the facts before anything would slide. His eyes would usually be the ones to give him away, “It’s because they were too dang expressive,” he would complain, closing the door behind him as he left the house. They reflected every thought he carried within him, it was beautiful only to outsiders, he often got complimented on them, but he couldn’t see it, since that only managed to annoy him. As a resolve, he had learned how to avoid certain things, most of the times those things were questions he didn’t know how to respond.
So, he told himself, “I’m not hiding anything if I don’t give them a chance to question me to begin with.”
He wouldn’t have anything to lie about if he wasn’t questioned about a thing. This way, he made way to his morning jogs, another one of his habits and his second resolve to hiding truths.
At first, he thought of it as a runaway scene, having spent too many evenings watching movies with his mom made him view it that way, like in those movies where people run away to meet their lovers. Or just run away with their lover, but he didn’t have a lover when he first started jogging, he started his jogs to avoid any confrontation of having one to begin with. But then, suddenly, his runs were full of life, full of genuine chatters. He didn’t know how to deal with it, but he met a boy, and boy was he one of a kind.
During their first encounter they didn’t talk much, the bi-colored boy had tripped and Izuku being stuck in his own world had tripped over him and joined him on the floor. Had he fallen on his ass, he would’ve contemplated running away as if it didn’t happen, but Izuku managed to fall flat onto his face and legs tangled with Shouto’s. It was a bit of a funny scene, not entirely funny for the fact that they had scrapped their arms and legs, but they still talked about it like they weren’t the main characters to begin with.
“Hey, are you okay?” Shouto asked, imitating Izuku’s voice from that day. They were sitting in the park, it was too early for either of them to be feeling okay really, no one would wake up that early just to jog, but Izuku appreciated that Shouto would try to joke even when he was near falling asleep.
The sun wasn’t even out yet, but they were sitting under a tree to witness the sunrise and soothe their minds out. Izuku smacked him lightly on the leg, backing up more into Shouto’s embrace, enyojing the warmth he had to share, making up for the lack of layers.
“No, but really are you okay?” He asked a while later, the soft and warm tones in the sky setting a lighter mood. Though it really wasn’t.
“Is it okay to feel sad about something you’re glad about?” Izuku replied, but it was really more of a question than anything. Izuku threw his head back, letting it rest on Shouto’s shoulder so he could look better at the sky.
“I don’t think there is one correct way of expressing feelings… there’s nothing wrong about expressing really, but why?”
“I have a feeling that mom found out about us being a thing.” He looked down, patting the thighs that caged him, “I think that’s why I called you out so early today.”
“When did you find out about it then?” Shouto took Izuku’s hands in his, and pushed them against him, his boney yet muscley back leaning against his chest, a tight squeeze followed, but then all four hands dropped in the grass. The morning sun falling upon them.
“Last night.” The revelation, he sighed, for a second he thought Izuku was going to say ‘Last month,’ or ‘A while ago.’
“Makes sense,” He nodded, a warm hand ruffling his hair as it to shake all his worries away, but it obviously didn’t work that way. Shouto guessed he probably he hadn’t slept a bit either, he pushed Izuku’s hair away from his eyes and looked at his eyebags and wondered since when had he been awake. For a moment he contemplated on just staring into his eyes but then asked, “What should we do then?” He had a feeling that wasn’t everything Izuku had to say.
“I don’t know,” He admitted sheepishly. “Aren’t you curious as to how she found out though?” Izuku looked up at Shouto’s eyes only to find him giving him a goofy look, “What?” He blushed, “What did you come up with?”
“Somehow I feel like you gave me the same treatment you give your favorite heroes to the point of making your mom curious about who ‘this boy,’ was,” He replied with the same goofy eyes and a newly found sparkle in his eyes. Izuku couldn’t help but stare for a moment.
“Well you’re not wrong,” He chirped, hiding his face in embarrassment, “but you didn’t have to put it like that.” Izuku switched his legs to the side, and with both of them resting over Shouto’s thigh all of his body faced that side and made it easier to hide his face on the crook of his neck in shame, though he wasn’t ashamed in the slightest. “She just wants to meet you…”
“Meet… me?”
He trailed off, Izuku worried for a second, only to look up and find him beaming.
“Why’s that?” Izuku asked with a hint of playfulness, he was relieved that Shouto didn’t take it in a bad way, though he doubted Shouto had it in him.
“Izuku,” He paused briefly to cup Izuku’s face in his hands, “someone wants to meet me, and it’s not just anyone this time around.” Izuku could feel the trembling in his hands and decided to cup his hands over them. “When can we meet?”
“Actually, how do you feel about breakfast?”
Shouto grabbed Izuku’s hands and draped them over his shoulders, pulling him in for a light kiss, “That would be great actually, thank you.” And another one. He rested his head on Izuku’s shoulder and hummed, “Hmmm minty.” He could feel the slight tap on his back as Izuku smacked him for the smug comment and laughed in content, this is what happiness must look like on the warmer sides of the earth.A tight embrace. And that’s what breakfast felt like as well.
They met on the kitchen while Inko brew her coffee, steam around the room as the warm milk took away the coldness of the morning. She put her cup down as Izuku dropped his keys on the table, all of them walking towards each other.
“You’re the boy,” She smiled, wrinkles forming on the corners of her eyes. “The boy from his sketchbooks and from his dreams, I’ve heard so much of you,” Inko stepped closer a hand reaching out for his face, “may I?” Shouto nodded with kind eyes adorning his face, a soft yet well aged hand cupping his cheek, he couldn’t help but lean into it. He felt welcome, this was a mother’s grace.
“Oh, you’re so cold, sit here for a second while I bring something to warm you up.” She took the chance to cup both cheeks and warm them up before leaving, a stray smile on both their faces and a hint of relief in his heart.
“I’ve never felt so welcome before this,” He admitted, “I’m sorry that you can’t meet my dad in the same way Izuku.” He sighed before a grin ran over his face and said, “I don’t know how to tell her that this is my quirk acting up.” Izuku laughed before stepping towards him and giving him a hug.
“When did you grow so cold, Shouto?”
“When did you grow so short Izuku?” Inko chuckled as she walked back into the kitchen, a big, warm blanket in hands, “I brought this for you, but you’ll have to join us in the living room in order to be nuzzled.”
Izuku and Shouto looked at each other in the eyes questioningly, who’s us? With a Midoriya mindset, Shouto followed blindly, not really sure what “us” could’ve consisted of when even Izuku wasn’t sure. And then they gasped, Izuku knowingly and Shouto in confusion, “Ah, Todoroki my boy.”
All Might? “Ah,” He gasped, “you really were an All might love child after all”
It was barely seven am. Izuku didn’t know how to reply to that yet, and laughed as a reply, hiding his face on his chest as he tried to stop giggling. “That’s not it?” He really didn’t know how to tell him.
But they all enjoyed their breakfast happily, Inko wanted to treat it as a double date, but to Izuku’s embarrassment, everyone had begged against it. His little heart wouldn’t have taken it, he was very much thankful everyone took the hint. Morning coffee in hands, both couples sat across each other in the couch watching tv, the news a little too harsh to enjoy a new day. It only begged for kid cartoons to set a lighter mood, and so they switched, chatting the morning away like this was some daily event.
