Work Text

He had noticed that the Neurons had been acting strange for quite some time now. U-1146 had been to the brain many times and he was accustomed to the Neurons stuck away on their computers, fax machines and telephones, but lately they seemed...lazy.That wasn't the only strange thing, though. The Neurons of all over the body seemed suddenly slow and unwilling for some reason. One day he could not resist his curiousity, so he stopped and asked one of the Neurons.“What's the matter with you guys? You all seem...sick.”“We are sick. It's the end of the world today. There isn't enough serotonin and dopamine.”U-1146 did get worried, but then his receptor started sounding and he had to dash away to his duty. He completely forgot about the conversation.… .. .It was a normal day for Red Blood Cell as she did her work of delivering oxygen and carbon dioxide with her junior. They were just walking with their cartons when a loud noise was heard. The floor around them was full of tremors and they struggled to stay balanced.AE-3803 didn't understand the cause of the commotion; they were way too deep in the veins and so far away from the surface. If it had been a normal abrasion, they shouldn't have felt the wind that was now trying to pull them out.She read the sign hanging from the roof; it said, ‘1 centimetre’. What had happened to cause chaos at this level? But she didn't have much time to think. Grabbing her junior, they rushed to find something solid to hold on to before the draft blew them away from their world. What she saw, knocked her out of her senses. The entire vein had been cut through and the corridor was in two pieces with an abyss in between. She could not contain the scream building up in her neck.… .. .White Blood Cell U-1146 was upon the gash as soon as his receptor sounded. He looked around, just in case AE-3803 was nearby, but he couldn't spot her. He took out his knife. They were here, like always. And they were already in action; his fellow Neutrophils were fighting the germs with all their might. He might as well as join them.He jumped in.… .. .There seemed to be no end to the germs; they just seemed to be coming in endlessly. No matter how many they slaughtered, the germs just never stopped coming in.Macrophage had to step in too and even her significantly potent force did nothing to lessen the number of germs. She relayed the information to Dendritic Cell who in turn notified Helper T Cell. A battalion of Killer T Cells was soon with them. Even NK Cell came too.Too many Red Blood Cells were falling out and there were too less of immune cells to keep them from falling out.Where were the Platelets?… .. .The Platelets assembled but their leader knew that they could do nothing in this case. The body was heading for a hypovolemic shock. But the immune cells were working so hard, she and her team could not give up without doing anything. They had to try, at least. So they brought their fibrin nets and clotting factors and set to work.“Remember, no fighting and no snatching. We can do this!” the leader cried out before heading into the battle scene.… .. .There was too much chaos. There was too much movement. How could the Neurons allow this much movement to occur?Their fibrin nets kept breaking off and the clotting factors were useless with broken nets. The Leader Platelet could cry, but she had to remain strong for the sake of her teammates.… .. .There was no more oxygen coming in through the lungs. The respiratory system had collapsed and the visual input of the outside world was gone. She herself was out of oxygen. How could she utilise her energy without oxygen? She was about to faint and hit the ground when someone caught her limp form.It was White Blood Cell.“Hey,” she whispered, “What are you doing here?”“I came looking for you.”“Why aren't you fighting? I thought I saw you fight with all those germs,” she said softly.“You saw me? I didn't see you back there. Hey — “Her head rolled backwards from the exhaustion.“AE-3803,” he said as he stroked her cheek, “don’t faint, okay?"“Uh, my head feels really dizzy.”He held her as they waited for everything to black out; it was the only thing he could do. He had abandoned his post to come look for this Red Blood Cell.It was his job to protect cells. All cells. And if he wasn't fighting, he was still doing his job.… .. .A girl lied in a hospital bed.The heartbeat went flat.
