Work Text

When Logan opens his eyes, he suddenly feels a wave of nausea. His throat closes up with the familiar feeling of wanting to vomit. The past few days felt like he was coming down with something, constant headaches since Monday were his companions and the hurting stomach made it difficult to concentrate in classes and at work. It got more intense yesterday around noon, so Logan had taken off a night from work to lie in all his misery on his bed. Of course, he didn’t tell James when he called, he didn’t want to worry him. Logan turns around, facing the sleeping man beside him. He remembers slightly how he came to his apartment, all happy and smiling, eager to watch a movie that Logan had fallen asleep to. Now James lies beside him, snoring softly, his arm draped around Logans waist and hair adorably rumpled. He smiles at the red head, lightly tracing his fingers along the sharp cheekbones on white skin. But his smile falls immediately as a cramp shoot through his abdomen, worse than the day before. Feeling as if someone’s stabbing him. He rubs his stomach, hoping to ease the pain but it doesn’t help much. He sighs heavily, closes his eyes and tries to breath through the pain until it settles into a light throb. He waits a moment, debating if he should stay in bed or get up, trying to find some medicine or just some relief against the pain. He knows that moving around helps from tome to time. Carefully he pushes James’ arm away and sits up, wincing as the pain starts again. He takes more deep breathes, closes his eyes once again. For a moment he had dark spots dancing in front of him but as he opens his eyes and the pain subsides once again, they’re gone. He slowly pushes up, getting on his feet and shuffles to the bathroom, wincing ats he switches lights on. It was still fairly dark outside, probably somewhat around 6 am. He needs to steady himself on the sink as a new wave of cramps rushes through his stomach. His head takes the same moment to start throbbing in time which intensifies his nausea and he knows instantly that he’s going to vomit any moment, bile already rising in his throat. He turns around, already bowed a little and crouch in front of the toilet, just managing to lift the lid as the first retch comes and vomit splatters into the water. He retches a bit more, tears jumping into his eyes from the smell and burn, slowly running down his cheeks. It takes a few minutes until he manages to take a few breathes with out new bile rising. He flushes the toilet and stands up. His legs feel shaky and just for a moment he fears to fall while taking the few steps to the sink to wash his mouth, getting rid of the taste. He waits a second, studying his reflection in the mirror. He is pale and has shadows under his eyes. some of his hair escaped his bun and hangs loosely in his face making him look more tired. He sighs, wipes the remaining water from his mouth and walks out of the bathroom to his kitchen, only to slump down on one of the chairs at his dining table. He lies his head down humming at the pleasurably cold surface against his skin. His throat is burning and feels raw, his chest hurts from retching and his head is still pounding. His eyes feel heavy and he feels the tiredness in his body, despite having just woken up from a full night of sleep. The cramps are still there, lighter but there. He came here for something to drink, maybe a light breakfast but the table is just too comfy right now and he isn’t really hungry anyway, probably not even able to hold something down. He closes his eyes once again, listens to the small sounds around him. The ticking of the clock on the wall, the birds outside, the silent, common sound a house makes in silent times; but does not focus on anything special. He probably drifted off for a bit, because the next thing he knows is that there’s a small, warm hand on his back. He lifts his head groggily and looks around. “Hey, you’re sleeping out here? You should have gone to bed again.” James looks down at him, a soft smile on his lips and rubbing his hand up and down on Logans back. Logan just nods tiredly, not able to say something and rubs his eyes sluggishly while sitting up. His head is filled with tiredness and the constant throbbing of his headache. “Did you have breakfast already?” James turns around, facing the kitchen cabinets and fridge, probably debating want to make. He turns back to logan as he doesn’t get an answer.„Hey? Are you still sleeping?”„Ah, sorry. No. Wasn’t hungry.” As Logan looks up at James who’s standing next to the refrigerator now, with a glass of jam in one hand. He earns himself a skeptical look. „Logan you’re okay? You only skip meals when your kind of sick and you didn’t eat much dinner yesterday, either.” Logan wants to answer that he’s fine, just not hungry, but remembers the nusea which is still bugging him, so he just shrugs his shoulders. “Might come down with something. – Oh, come on. Don’t give me that look.”„But you rarely get sick. This would be the second time in two months. I’m sorry but I’m concerned.” James puts the marmalade down and walks back to Logan, framing his face in his hands and studying him. „James. Even I can get sick more than just one time a year. It’s fine. I feel good.” A lie but he doesn’t need James to worry too much. „If you say so.” James looks at him a second longer, rubs his thumbs gently on Logans cheeks and just then does he turn around to finish his own breakfast. Logan watches him for a while but then turns his head back on the table, suppressing a whimper as a new cramp announces itself. He hears James attempts to clean everything like it was before, which he knows he won’t succeed in. James just doesn’t know where to put everything, which is also the reason why his own room in his dorm looks like a mess. „Don’t you have classes at 9?” Logan looks up and turns his gaze to the clock above the fridge. „Shit. It’s already that late?!” He jumps up but sinks to the ground instantly with a whimper. He feels dizzy and the cramp has peaked up immensely. A second whimper leaves his mouth and he closes his eye to try and ground himself so he won’t fall entirely, slinging his arms around himself. „Logan, talk to me. What’s wrong?” James worried voice is close, his hand rest on logans shoulders and he can practically see his worried expression, his eyes that run over him to see what’s wrong. Instead of answering he just shakes his head, not able to form word without whimpering or vomiting.  Logan watches him for a while but then turns his head back on the table, suppressing a whimper as a new cramp announces itself. Instead of answering he just shakes his head, not able to form word without whimpering or vomiting. He wants to tell him but he knows, as soon as he opens his mouth, he’s going to vomit. That’s something he absolutely doesn’t want to do. „Logan please. I don’t know what to do. Shall I call an ambulance? Do you need medicine or- Or water?” Logan released one hand from his stomach to his mouth as he gags. His hand does nothing to keep it in, so he ends up throwing up on the tiles. He feels James tense up beside him, which is worse than actually throwing up, because James uses to get panic attacks very easily. Especially when he doesn’t know what to do, something that’s still a package from his childhood. The situation now is not ideal for him and logan hates that he’s the reason he might get tipped over. Logan tries to loosen his grip on his stomach to grab James hand, ground him a little so he can think clearly, but the cramps are merciless, he needed his hand to keep a little pressure on it. That was the only solution which made it a little enduring. He heaves again and again until nothing comes up anymore, he’s breathless and coughs a few times. The coughing leads to more dry heaves and he struggles to get air. „O-okay. I- ehrm. I go get a- a bucket okay? You can hold on a moment?” Logan just nods, glad that James seems to figure things out without him helping. While James is gone, Logan manages to sit on the chair instead of crouching on the ground, eyeing the contents of his stomach with disgust before he places his forehead on the edge of the table. the cool surface helping at least to soothe the increased headache. James returned with and a wet cloth and is quick to push the bucket in Logan’s hands, to lie the cloth on his neck, then tries to clean the mess on the ground with the towels he brought as well. As soon as Logan gets the bucket, he dry heaves into it again. Tears prickle at the corners of his eyes and his throat feel tight. He also feels incredible hot just now. „James?” His voice sounds sore and strained but he tries to keep it loud enough so his boyfriend can hear it. In an instant James leaves the towels be and crouches beside him. „What’s up? Do you feel worse? Do you need something else? Shall I go and get medicine from the pharmacy?”„First of all, calm down a bit.” He waits for James to take some deep breaths until he nods, so Logan can speak up again. „Can you bring me some water? And-” He stops speaking, swallowing hard but to no use, he heaves again a few times and new acid makes his way out. James shuffles closer and draws slow circles on his back holding the few hair strand out of his face with the other. „It’s okay. I got you.” Logan waits a moment until he actually can breathe again. „Some water and the thermometer, please?” His voice is really raw and speaking hurts his throat. The taste on his tongue makes him cringe. „Thermo-? Okay give me a sec.” James stands up, walks to the sink and fills a glass with water to place on the table next to Logan who nods in thanks. Then the red head vanishes for a few second and returns with the thermometer and a new wet cloth, which he passes Logan to wipe his face with. Then he holds the thermometer out for Logan to put in his mouth and stares at it. Logan can see the anxious gaze from his boyfriend but pretends to not notice, knowing it makes James pretty shy to talk about it. They wait for a bit until the device beeps. James takes it from Logans lips and frowns a little at the small numbers. „Hmm... 101.48 degrees. Not great but not concerning either. What do you want me to do? Shall we move back to the bedroom?” James worries his lip and Logan almost scolds him for it but suppress it. „No. I still got classes.”„Really?” James looks at him with a surprised look. „You just threw up a few times, you clearly have a temperature and probably a bad headache and you still want to go to classes anyway? You’re already too late, so there is no discussion needed. We’re going back to bed. My class starts at twelve, so I got some time to watch you. Okay?”„But-” The stern look he receives lets him shut up immediately. „Come on up with you. I mail your professors and then I search for some medicine. And we can watch this series you want me to watch all the time. How does that sound?”„Yeah okay. Sounds nice.” Logan sighs leaves the bucket on the table and leans on James a little as he guides him back to bed. He feels drained and exhausted, ready to fall back asleep soon and he knows, that’s James intention anyway. Probably better for him to call in sick today. „So, it’s decided then.” James slings an arm around Logan’s waist to carry as much weight as he can until he manages to ease the brunette on the bed. Logan concentrated on holding in what little was left in his stomach as he lies down and tries to get comfy. He watches James shuffle around to bring some stuff, like the, now clean, bucket and some the medicine. Then he sets up his Laptop on his legs after lying down beside Logan. He quickly sends a mail to Logan’s professors and then opens the page to open the series. „Lets take your mind off your stomach okay, sweetie?” Logan nods and shuffles closer to James, placing his head on his shoulder. Logan drifts off as the third episode starts but James just feels relieved, because that means that Logan is comfortable and not bothered from his stomachache or fever. He smiles and kisses his forehead before he turns back to watch the series.
