The teachers of UA sat at the conference table, chatting animatedly. Well, all but one. Shouta snuggled into his sleeping bag, sleeping in the corner of the room to be as far away as possible from the noise coming from the other insufferable teachers. He pried one eye open only to close it again after a flash of light went off. Who or what caused it, he would never know and he couldn’t give less of a shit at the moment. He burrowed further into his sleeping bag, willing the world around him to go away… Why couldn’t
he
have joined him in this hellhole…?
After thirty grueling minutes of listening to the other’s nonsense, Nedzu
finally
showed up, a wide smile on his pointed face. “Welcome, everyone! Sorry to call you here on your final weeks of teaching classes, but I have some exciting news for you!”
A murmur went around the room, everyone wondering what in the world was going on. Shouta even cracked an eye open, somewhat curious himself.
The rodent looked around the room, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Well, instead of telling you, why don’t I let
them
tell you themselves!”
On cue, a burly figure stepped into the room, bright blonde hair sticking up, defying gravity. A wide smile permanently stained on a tanned face, All Might let out his notorious laugh, making the ravenette cringe. Of
course
All Might had to be here… Maybe he could just sneak out-
“Good afternoon, everyone!” All Might boomed, his voice shaking everything in the room. “It is my honor to tell you all that I have accepted to become a teacher here at UA!”
Everyone began an uproar, excited shouting and awes flinging from everywhere. Shouta really, really,
really
wanted to be anywhere but there right now, slowly slinking to the door.
“However, I am not alone! Another, much younger, hero has also accepted this position after being hounded by Nedzu for years now!” All Might claimed, making the underground hero pause in his attempts.
He looked over at the number one hero suspiciously.
No, he couldn’t be talking about…
Another figure walked into the room, though noticeably much smaller than All Might. Dark green, curly, fluffed hair bounced to joyous movements, bright green eyes shining brightly, a kind smile playing on plump pink lips. Nemuri and Hizashi glanced at Shouta, mischievous smirks on their faces as the underground hero gaped at the newcomer. The small male stopped, eyes scanning the room, smile never fading.
“Hi! I’m Midoriya Izuku, also known as ‘Deku’! Glad to be here!” He exclaimed cheerfully, making everyone coo at how cute he was.
Izuku looked around the room, spotting Shouta on his spot on the floor. His emerald eyes widened in recognition, smile widening even more as he called out to his friend, “Oh, Aizawa-kun! It’s good to see you again!”
Shouta narrowed his eyes at the intensity of the smile Izuku sent him, glaring at his two friends who continued to snicker at him. Of
course
Izuku had to be the second person. Glancing back at the greenette, he forced down a blush as the other continued to smile at him. Great. Just great. How was he supposed to survive the next school year
now
?
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Shouta had met Izuku at his first year of UA, both of them being in General Studies. It surprised him to learn that there was a quirkless student at UA, but he didn’t really think anything of it at first. Though, something about Izuku made him gravitate towards him unconsciously; maybe it was his kind eyes, bright smile, or non judgmental attitude… Whatever it was, Shouta wound up befriending the friendly green-haired male in the first few months of the school year. Izuku seemed to want to be his friend, as well, as the smaller male always sought out the ravenette when group projects came up or just for friendly chats.
Of course, as time went on, Shouta began to notice more things about his new friend. How he mumbled when he was thinking, how he fiddled with his fingers when nervous… Just little things he doubted he’d notice otherwise (other than the mumbling; Izuku tended to do that
a lot
). During that time, he had also somehow gotten to befriend Hizashi and Nemuri, both of which were in the Hero Course. Apparently they had also been bought in by Izuku’s natural shine as he asked them enthusiastically about their quirks during their shared lunch one time.
Really, that was just like Izuku. The group hung out often together, especially after Shouta and Izuku being promoted to the Hero Course after the Sports Festival. That was when the other three got to see Izuku truly shine. Since the greenette didn’t have a quirk, he replied on the support items he, himself, had created along with his martial arts training from when he was younger. Really, it was impressive and no surprise that Izuku had won that year, seeing as how everyone else basically relied on their quirks for everything.
That was probably around the time Shouta had developed a crush for his best friend (at least, he assumed they were best friends). When Izuku had held out his hand with a bright smile after their fight, which left him with first place and Shouta with second, sweat dripping from his chin, breath coming in heavily, but the smile never changing, Shouta felt his heart skip a beat. After that, the raven-haired male grew overly conscious of Izuku’s presence when he was around, to which Hizashi and Nemuri picked up on and teased him relentlessly for.
They did try to help him out though, giving Izuku subtle (or, as subtle as they could possibly make them) hints about Shouta’s affections. Unfortunately for the trio, Izuku was denser than a pile of bricks and never caught on. That was fine though; as long as Shouta could still be his friend, then that was enough for him. They had all graduated and Izuku joined Shouta in the underground hero business while the other two basked in the spotlight. They all kept in touch even after all the years, and Shouta had gotten as job as a teacher at UA during that time.
When he felt like things were getting too hectic or stressful, he always messages Izuku, who always had the right things to say to calm him down from murdering everyone there. Really, it made Shouta truly wish for the greenette to join him at UA… So that he could help calm him down, not because he had a totally, not real crush of his friend. Imagine his surprise when it actually happened, though; Nedzu had been hounding Izuku to join UA as a teacher for
years
, as his intellect actually rivaled the rodents and gave the principal a run for his money.
Shouta never expected him to accept the offer… What exactly changed? He watched as everyone crowded the two new soon-to-be teachers, talking their ears off. Izuku just simply smiled and laughed, seemingly unbothered with all the attention. Shouta slowly closed his eyes, curling back into his sleeping bag. He’d have to ask later; right now, he’ll let his friend enjoy being welcomed as the first quirkless pro hero teacher at UA.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Ten months.
That's how long Katsuki had until UA opened its gates and allowed people to take the entrance exams. Excitement bubbled under his skin as a feral smile curled onto his lips. He and nothing to worry about; he was going to get in. The last day at his shitty middle school finally ended, everyone rushing out, eager to start their summer breaks.
Katsuki scoffed at them, hauling his bag over his shoulder and sulking off. He reached the school gates when he heard a familiar voice call out to him.
“Hey, Bakubro!” He turned to see Eijirou run up to him, sharp teeth flashing brightly, his smile wide. “Why didn't you wait for me, man?”
The blonde rolled his eyes, turning back around and stalking off. “Who says I had to wait for your stupid ass, Shitty Hair?”
Eijirou laughed his words off good heartedly, catching up to him easily. “Awh, don't be like that! It's summer break, UA is right around the corner! Aren't you excited?”
He didn't bother to say anything to that, both of them already knowing the answer. Instead, he said, “Whatever. That's why your dumbass needs to study. You'll fail otherwise.”
“Ouch. That was harsh, bro.” The redhead winced, pulling a face.
“That's why I offered to tutor you, isn't it?” The blonde growled, glaring at his childhood friend. “You're not allowed to fail. Not on my watch.”
Tears formed in the other’s eyes, whispering about how cool the blonde was or whatever. Katsuki stopped listening at some point. It didn't matter. He had an exam to pass, and he'd be damned if he didn't get first place.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Hitoshi had grown up being told his quirk was villainous. Hell, he'd even been abandoned by his own parents because of it. Years and years of bullying and degrading has worn down the purple-haired teen, but his ultimate dream never changed: he
would
be a hero! He’d show everyone who ever talked down to him or called him names know that he
wasn’t
a villain, and that he could, and
would
, be a hero!
He kicked a small rock on the sidewalk he was walking down, on his way to his new “home”, the fifth house he’d been placed in since orphanage. His tired, dull eyes kept to the ground, not bothering to look up, leading him to get bumped into by someone walking past.
“Sorry,” He said, sparing them a glance before continuing onwards, only to be stopped by a hand to his shoulder.
He turned to look at them, an eyebrow raised in question. The person who stopped him was a middle-aged man, short, choppy gray-brown hair a mess atop his head, small grayish eyes staring at him wantonly.
“Kid, don’t you think you’re bein’ a bit
rude
?” He asked, making Hitoshi frown slightly in confusion. “
You
bumped into
me
,” the teen bit his tongue, not wanting to call the older out on his obvious bullshit, “So don’t you think I deserve a bit more than an apology?”
“What could you possibly want?” Hitoshi asked, annoyance dripping from his tone. He just wanted to go home!
The man eyed him in a sensual manner, making the teen shiver in disgust. “Well, how about we go and have some
private time
?”
Before he could, aggressively, deny the man’s request, he grabbed the tired teen’s wrist and began to pull him away, surprising him. “Hey, wait! Let me go!”
“You owe me for being rude!” The man said casually, tightening his grip.
Hitoshi really didn’t want to use his quirk, but he was getting more and more panicked as they drew closer and closer to an empty alleyway. “And why’s that?”
“Because-” His reply was cut short, his movements coming to an abrupt stop.
Hitoshi breathed a sigh of relief before removing himself from the man’s grip, rubbing his sore wrist gingerly. “Finally. Now, go and turn yourself in to the police and confess all your plans for me and any possible crimes you may have committed in the past.”
The man obeyed, the teen lucking out that the police station was just down the road. He heaved a sigh, turning around to find a small child gawking at him. They had a silent stare off, wide eyes staring into tired ones. After a few minutes that seemed like hours, the kid slowly backed away before running off, shrill voice screaming “Villain!” That stung his heart, making it heavier than usual. He lowered his head, losing himself in his own thoughts.
Even a
kid
thinks I’m a villain… Maybe I’m…
A tap on his shoulder jolted him out of his thoughts, whipping around to come face to face with a
real pro hero right in front of him
-
Normally, no one would know of Deku, an underground hero who stayed even further in the shadows than Eraserhead, but you underestimate Hitoshi’s fondness for underground heroes. Deku, decked out in his “hero” outfit (which was really just glorified outdoor wear), was standing before Hitoshi, a kind smile on his lips.
“Hey, I saw the end of what happened back there.” He began, and Hitoshi’s heart sunk.
Oh no… He saw me brainwashing someone. Now he’ll definitely think I’m a villain-
“And, I just wanted to say… I’m sorry.”
What?
“... What?” He couldn’t have possibly heard that right. Why would
Deku
apologize to
him
?
“Maybe, if I’d gotten here sooner, you wouldn’t’ve had deal with that.” The male said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “But, you had it handled really well! Was that your quirk, when you made him turn himself in?”
Hitoshi shifted on his feet slightly, not sure how to respond. So, he just hesitantly nodded. “Yeah… It’s, uh, called ‘Brainwashing’, and I can make someone do whatever I want as long as they respond to me.”
He nervously glanced into those deep green eyes only to stare in shock at the absolute
awe
in them. “That’s
amazing
! That’s just a useful quirk! You could make any villain turn themselves in, or stop suicides, or even-” The pro continued to list off things Hitoshi could do with his quirk;
good
things.
The teen just stood there, flabbergasted, mouth slightly agape. “You… You don’t think I’m a villain…?”
“Huh?” Deku blinked, looking back up at Hitoshi from his muttering. After a few more blinks, he simply smiled, said smile bright and blinding. “Of course not! Do you want to be?”
He quickly shook his head. “No…! I want to be a hero…!”
“Then, you can be!” The older male stated matter-of-factly. “You can be a hero, uh…”
“Hitoshi.” The purple-haired teen whispered, tears welling up in his eyes.
Deku beamed, grabbing the teen’s hands, cradling them in his own. “Well, then, Hitoshi…”
“You
can
be a hero.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Todoroki Shouto’s life was a mess.
His “father”, only in legal terms, Endeavour, made his life a living
hell
. His mother, the only one he could truly, fully, wholeheartedly
trust
, poured boiling water onto his face, screaming at him about how she wished he had
never been born.
That was the day his life
shattered
. He would never trust anyone ever again. He’d never let his emotions show, lest he be taken advantage of.
Mismatched eyes glanced down at the recommendation letter that his father had sent to the school he was being forced into; UA. He left his expression blank, neutral. It wouldn’t matter. He would become a hero, without using his father’s power.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
If you said Izuku was excited for today, he’d tell you that was an
understatement.
He was absolutely, utterly,
ecstatic
!
Midoriya Izuku, a twenty eight year-old quirkless underground pro hero that dabbled in vigilantism, was
finally
teaching at his old high school, UA! Honestly, he had been offered a teaching position by Nedzu as soon as he graduated, but declined, as he wanted to work as his dream job without having anything else to worry about. Over the years, something happened so that he continued to refuse Nedzu’s offer (which came annually, which was amusing in Izuku’s opinion), but now,
now
, he was ready, mentally and physically.
Izuku didn’t bother to hide his smile as he jogged up to the large building, the first day of classes finally starting today. He called his Mom and Mamma when he’d finally accepted, the two of them crying and wishing him good luck and telling them how proud of him they were, making him tear up as well. He barged through the teacher’s room, a wide smile on his lips, ignoring the fact half of them jumped up in surprise and stared at him in shock.
He waved cheerily at them, strolling over to his desk and plopping down on his chair, happy that it was brand new so that he had the chance to break it in himself. Izuku twirled in it (it was a rolly chair! That
swiveled
!) before stopping in front of Aizawa, slightly tipsy and dizzy. He smiled brightly down at his best friend, not noticing the light blush forming on the tired man’s cheeks.
“Good morning, Aizawa-kun!” He cheered, twirling back to his desk, not bothering to get a response, knowing his friend probably wouldn’t give him one anyway.
Green eyes flicked up to the clock on the wall, never-fading smile on his cherry lips. Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes until his teaching career began. He beamed, pulling out his laptop from the bag he brought, opening it and deciding to look at the student’s files. If he was going to be a teacher, he’d be the best he can be! After all…
Everyone deserves a chance to be a hero!
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Shouta was now certain the world itself was fucking with him. Well, at least Nedzu certainly was. That damned rat had Izuku be his assistant teacher to “show him the ropes” for his first year teaching, even though
All Might
didn't get such luxury. Izuku, being the innocent and optimistic person he was, was
ecstatic
about the decision and told Shouta he was in his care… how could he possibly refuse that?
He thought over his life choices as he led the greenette down the halls, trying not to find the way the other gaped in awe at the improvements since he’s been there and visible quirks of the students endearing but failing miserably. When they reached their shared homeroom, Shouta immediately curled into his sleeping bag, content with just sleeping until their class started, or even through it. God knows he doesn’t get nearly enough sleep for this shit.
Izuku didn’t say anything about it, giggling as the raven-haired male did so to which he blushed, the sound like tiny bells to his ears. The younger took a look around the classroom and set down the bag he’d brought with him and pulled multiple things out. Shouta couldn’t see from where he lay, but he saw Izuku take the items and go around the room setting something on each of the desks.
He shifted slightly and glanced at the closest desk to see what it was; it was a homemade welcome card with a piece of candy, a poorly drawn picture of “Deku” on each of them. Shouta looked at his assistant to see him smiling shyly at him, green eyes bright and hopeful.
“I just thought that maybe if I gave them a special welcome they’d be able to relax more and feel more open?” The quirkless man hesitantly said, a light blush creeping up on his cheeks.
Shouta simply burrowed deeper into his sleeping bag, trying to ignore the sheer amount of adorableness coming from his crush. Goddammit if being a hero won’t kill him, he’s pretty sure Izuku will.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
