Work Text
4 Years ago School was its usual dreary cycle of monotony, but today, something shifted. Something small, but significant. Jungkook had been paired with Jimin for an assignment, despite the fact that Jimin was a grade ahead. It wasn’t an academic project so much as a house initiative—Green House, to be specific. Their school had delusions of grandeur, trying too hard to emulate Hogwarts.Jimin was magnetic, his popularity extending beyond the school gates. He had a brief, whirlwind romance with Kim Taehyung—social butterfly, golden boy, a living work of art with a natural-born charisma. It made sense that he and Jimin had gravitated toward each other. They were beautiful, effortless in a way that made the world pause.Jungkook, on the other hand, existed in the quiet spaces. He loathed socializing, viewing it as an exhausting exercise in futility. He spent his time immersed in gaming and anime, avoiding interactions where he could. People labeled him a nerd, but he couldn’t care less. School was something to endure, a liminal space before real life could begin.Jimin’s world was all noise and motion, surrounded by a boisterous circle of friends who were as cocky as they were entertaining. Jungkook had no such social infrastructure. The closest thing to companionship was Min Yoongi, a fellow loner who existed on the periphery of every social dynamic. They weren’t best friends, but there was an unspoken understanding between them—a quiet assurance that if either of them ever needed someone, the other would be there. When the teacher called out the partners, Jimin exchanged a brief goodbye with his friend Sarah and moved toward Jungkook.
Sarah wrinkled her nose. “Ugh. Have fun with that coconut head.”
Jimin shot her a look. “Rude.”
He had never paid much attention to Jungkook before. He knew of him, of course—he was the subject of casual, dismissive jokes among his friends. Jimin never participated, but he never stopped them either. It was easy to overlook people when they stayed in their own shadows.
Sitting down beside Jungkook, Jimin immediately felt the tension in the air. The younger boy was stiff, his fingers fidgeting under the desk.
Jungkook, meanwhile, was having a minor crisis. Breathe. Act normal. Don’t look weird.
Jimin was attractive from a distance, but up close, he was devastating. The kind of beautiful that made Jungkook hyperaware of every awkward tendency he had. His sleeveless shirt showcased toned arms, and Jungkook suddenly felt all too aware of his own wiry frame.
Jimin was worried about how tense and uncomfortable Jungkook looked. He was really quiet. 'This is going to be hard' he thought to himself. Unlike everyone else, Jimin was extremely kind to him to his surprise. Jungkook expected Jimin to make him do all the work and never show up again. But Jimin tried his best to help in all ways possible. Jungkook was glad. ~ Jungkook's voice was low and soft which made Jimin melt. Jimin felt bad for holding a not so nice impression of him till now. The more he got to know Jungkook, the more he realized what an adorable person Jungkook was. He learned so many new things about Jungkook. Jungkook despite being shy, secretly having a crackhead personality being the most surprising one. They visited each other's house even after the assignment was over. When Jungkook first visited Jimin's house, he was so shy, he thought five times before sitting on Jimin's bed after Jimin insisted. Every small thing Jungkook did make Jimin gush at how cute Jungkook is. It made him feel like a fool that he had such a wonderful boy around him all this time and he didn't even bother interacting with him. Jimin went to the extent of unfriending all of his friends who made fun of Jungkook and feeling super guilty for doing nothing before. Jungkook's life revolved around Jimin. Jimin was the best thing that ever happened to him. They clung together 24/7, not caring about anything anyone said. Jimin felt like he discovered a hidden treasure that everyone else, including him, were too blind to see till now.Jimin babied him and made him shut up whenever Jungkook said his presence didn't do Jimin any good. He believed he is bad for Jimin's social status, which was, in fact, very high. He blamed himself for being the reason why Jimin didn't hang out with his old friends anymore. He was, in a way, one of the reasons. After Jungkook arrived in Jimin's life, he realized his friends were a bunch of assholes. He also noticed new details about Jungkook on daily basis, like how beautiful Jungkook's hands were and Jungkook was actually quite attractive and he would have been popular if he didn't completely close himself up from the world or paid a little more attention to appearance which Jungkook generally didn't. But it made the selfish side of him happy that he could have a friend like Jungkook all to himself. Jungkook was hopelessly in love with Jimin. And it wasn't some surprising realization since Jungkook was left breathless ever since he first saw Jimin. And how accepting Jimin was with him made him fall deeper. Jimin loved him too but in a different way. Jungkook knew this. Jimin treated him like a little brother. There was always an invisible line they maintained no matter how much they clung. 2 Years Ago "I hate admitting this but I might actually miss you, hyung." Jungkook tries to keep himself collected but how is he supposed to do that when so many realizations are hitting him straight at the face at once. His most precious friend/ longtime crush / senior Park Jimin graduated High School and is leaving for college to a completely different city. Jungkook entered senior year himself but his mind isn't absorbing the information that he probably won't see Jimin again for months, if not years."I'll miss my lil' Kookie too." Jimin sadly smiles and pulls Jungkook into a hug. Jungkook doesn't want to let this warmth go but Jimin slowly pulls away and pats Jungoo's head. Jungkook was really disappointed that he couldn't do anything special for Jimin before he left. He couldn't tell him how he felt. He couldn't make Jimin look at him as a man. He always remained a 'little boy' in Jimin's head. Jungkook hated himself. Unlike Jimin, Jungkook was skinny back then. He was shorter than Jimin.During middle school, Jimin had adorable chubby cheeks but by the time they entered High School, Jimin had abs. He used to wear tank tops and snapbacks a lot. He knew all this before he even talked to Jimin for the first time. God bless that assignment.Jungkook always recalls his coconut hair cut with a cringe on his face but Jimin always told him he looked cute.Even though both of them weren't from the same class, they used to hang out a lot playing video games at each other's place. They texted and called each other often but it wasn't like before anymore. He really did miss Jimin.School and gym were the only places he went to. His life was empty without Jimin. All he wanted was to see Jimin. Present Jimin is finally home, and he is so happy. His family won't stop feeding him and telling him he lost so much weight. He missed them so much.
Jungkook is on his way to Jimin's house to meet him after Jimin texted him to tell him he is back. Jimin felt really excited, he thinks about giving his Kookie the biggest hug when he sees him. Jimin sits on the sofa in his living room flipping through TV channels while waiting. His dad was at work and mom went Christmas shopping. When the doorbell finally rings, Jimin hops off the sofa immediately to open the door and when he does, his jaw drops to the floor. This can't be real. "Jungkook?" He needs to confirm in disbelief. This is the first time in years he called him 'Jungkook' instead of some pet name. This can't be the same boy he used to play with at school. Jimin's pleasantly shocked state is reasonable, Jungkook is wearing a white shirt, sleeves rolled up, with a pair of jeans. He is tall, now way taller than Jimin. His facial features are now strong as fuck with a perfectly chiseled jawline.Jeon Jungkook looks hot. Previously, the only words that came to Jimin's head when he thought of Jungkook were 'cute' and 'smol' and now he is just speechless. Jimin now feels shy about giving him 'his big hug' that he planned to.Jungkook lets out a soft giggle and says "Yeah." His doe eyes remain the same though. The big hug that Jimin wasn't being able to give, he received from Jungkook. The man's hands on Jimin's back made a gush of emotion flow through his mind that he never felt before. Never in his life, he imagined he might be flustered by Jungkook. °°° Jimin isn't the only one surprised by the changes. Jungkook isn't able to absorb what he is seeing either. Park Jimin managed to get even cuter. While he held Jimin for that hug, Jimin felt way softer. His previously hard muscles were missing. He fucking had sweater paws. And Jimin's face, adorable. Just as gorgeous as he always was, probably even more now.Jimin has changed in so many ways. Beautiful ways.Jungkook finally asked in a low tone "Won't you ask me to come in?" Jimin looked flustered. "Oh. Right. Come in." Jungkook couldn't help but smile at his insanely adorable hyung. They went inside and sat on the sofa with the TV on. It was a comfortable and cozy environment. "So tell me everything," Jimin asked."You already know, we talked like every day. I updated you on everything.""Not everything." Jimin murmured eyeing Jungkook's body.Jungkook noticed and slightly smirked at that.He felt brave enough to take Jimin's tiny hand in his own and placed it on his abs and said: "You can find out anything you want to know." Jimin blushed red and hit him on his chest lightly "Kookie!" And they both laughed. But Jungkook's laugh faded and when he turned to look at Jimin, Jimin gulped. He didn't know where he is getting all this confidence from. Maybe because of the pent up frustration of doing nothing for years, maybe the fact that Jimin looks a lot softer, or maybe its the atmosphere after seeing Jimin after so long, he pulls Jimin closer to himself as they lay on the sofa.Jimin looks confused. Jungkook hovers on top of him and whispers "Actually I have a lot to update you about, hyung." near his ear, his lips almost touching Jimin's neck. "Koo- Jungkook, what are you doing?" Jimin's voice is shaky. He isn't able to understand what is happening. Jungkook doesn't answer and he doesn't move. He leaves a soft kiss on Jimin's neck and Jimin trembles before he even finishes his words "Wha-" Jungkook cuts him off. "I love you so much, Hyung." Jimin stares at him with wide eyes. He can tell this isn't their everyday 'i love you'. The tone is different. Or maybe its because Jungkook is all over him. As if Jungkook looking like this wasn't enough shock."You have no idea how much I missed you." Jungkook continues leaving soft kisses.Jimin stops him, "Since when?" Jimin really doesn't know how he should feel about this. Jungkook barely looks like the same person. He looks irresistible. But that's still his little Kookie, he needs a moment."Since the beginning." Jungkook looks at him in the eyes pleadingly."Oh my god, Guk." Jimin seems shaken and stupid for not noticing. "I love you too, like a lot. But I never actually thought of it this way."Jungkook withdraws his hands and simply replies with an "Oh."He frowns and looks like he just made a huge mistake. His eyes are teary. "I'm- I-" Jungkook is searching for words to say.He looks so sad, Jimin hates it. Jimin doesn't like seeing him like this. He wants to wipe his worries away. Jimin leans in and kisses Jungkook on his lips. He doesn't know what he is doing. But he knows he'll do anything that makes Jungkook feel better. His hands roam around Jungkook's firm body and now he feels embarrassed again. It feels so foreign and familiar at the same time. When they finally break away, Jimin doesn't look at Jungkook's face. He looks at him only after Jungkook kisses him on the forehead. He regrets not looking before because Jungkook now has the brightest grin on his face. But it soon changes to an understanding smile as he says "You don't have to if you don't want to, hyung. You will always remain the most precious to me no matter what our relationship is."Jimin immediately responds to that with a low "No, I want to." Jimin's heart is beating so hard maybe Jungkook can hear it since they are so close. Jungkook touches Jimin's face to make himself realize this is a reality, not just another one of his dreams. He is so happy. So happy that he might cry. So happy that he kisses Jimin like he is desperately trying to convey his emotions. He holds him as he might disappear. He breaks from the kiss to let Jimin breathe. Jimin is flushed, breathless and beautiful.
