Work Text
The ball goes up, the ball comes back down again. It's beautiful the way Jess can keep it in the air for so long. She can make it go wherever she wants, and it's one of the sexiest things that Kat has ever seen in her life.Kat may have been the best girl on her high school team and when she was at Sarah Lawrence, but she had to work her ass off convincing the soccer team at Santa Clara that she was good enough to join. Jess is so good they went all the way to England and asked her to join."I just got lucky with the recruiter, that's all," she says whenever anybody brings it up. And then Jules will tell her to stop being so modest, and the whole team will have to listen to her brag about how good they both are until somebody finds a way to change the subject. It's a good thing the British accents are so sexy, because otherwise it'd be insufferable. With the soccer skills, her sexy accent and the fact that she's just plain smoking hot, Jess is a triple threat. Kat would have moved on that earlier, but with the way Jess and Jules had been joined at the hip since the day she'd arrived it hadn't occurred to her that Jess was free. But now she's having a (slightly drunk) talk with Jules, and it turns out that Jules has found herself a boyfriend who's on the men's rowing team. One obstacle out of Kat's way, then."Didn't Jess used to have some boyfriend in England?" she asks. She doesn't stay up with the gossip well, especially not the gossip from before she even got to Santa Clara, but she does remember something about that."Yeah, but you know how long distance things go. That was over a while ago. There've been a few people since then.""Boys, or girls?" asks Kat.Jules throws a drink napkin at her and laughs. "And why the hell would you care?""Seriously. Girls or boys?" asks Kat, and Jules has to bite her lip to keep from laughing harder."Both," she says once she's regained control of herself. "Experimenting is what college is for, after all."

"So," says Kat, and then she stalls. She hasn't actually practiced how to hit on a girl in a while. Or, well, ever - usually she doesn't bother with relationships, and when she does it's usually her that's the one being pursued. Romance is possibly the only aspect of her life where she doesn't take charge and initiate, and it's about time she changed that.Jules makes little encouraging motions from behind Jess's head, and Kat kind of wishes that she had chosen somebody else to talk to before making her move."Yeah, what?" asks Jess, oblivious to what Jules is doing behind her."I was wondering if you wanted to go see a movie or something. Later. Or maybe go to a club?" She's doing her best to act cool, but she's not sure if it's working."Are you asking me out on a date?" Jess asks. And, okay, Kat had been trying to work up to that particular term a little more slowly, but the direct approach is good too."Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing," she says.Jess smiles. "Sure."And Kat thinks things are going to be totally awesome.

The movie is unbelievably boring, and that's even by Kat's own surprisingly low standards when it comes to film. When she steals a glance to her side Jess doesn't look all that much more interested in it than she is. And there's only so long she's willing to sit shoving popcorn into her mouth with nothing else to do."Hey," she whispers. "Want to skip ahead to the good part of the date?"Jess giggles into her hand for a second, causing a few people to turn around and glare at them. Then she grabs Kat's hand and leads her out of the theater.

Jess flips the light switch off as they stumble into Kat's room and Kat reaches to flip it back on (because it's less fun sleeping with a beautiful girl if you can't see her) but Jess grabs her hand and says "No, let's just leave it off." Kat doesn't see why, but she lets it go. There's still enough of the city lights coming in through the blinds to allow her enough sight for the important things.Kat pushes Jess onto the bed and climbs up so that she's straddling the other girl's hips. Jess tugs Kat's shorts down as Kat pulls her shirt up over her head, and her bra comes of a second later. It's a shame that the lights are off, because Kat is willing to bet that the full impact of her naked and on her knees above Jess is probably being lost on her. But Jess makes appreciative noises anyway, and then she reaches up and grabs Kat by the neck and pulls her down for a kiss. It's forceful, and the way she twists and moans underneath Kat leaves her wanting more."Okay," says Kat as she pulls away from the kiss, "it's really not fair that you still have all of your clothes on.""Right, right," says Jess as she struggles to pull her t-shirt over her head. The sports bra takes and extra minute, and they have to pause even longer to get the shorts and underwear off. And then Kat's back on top, pushing Jess hard against the bed with her hands firmly on Jess's thighs (the feel of the scar tissue under her hand takes a second to get used to, but it's not enough to break her mood) as she starts in with her tongue.

"You didn't use to go here, right?" asks Jess as they get dressed and ready for the day. It's kind of a random question, but at this point Kat has learned that no matter how much you like someone the morning after is still awkward for the first few weeks."Yeah. I used to go to Sarah Lawrence. ""Do you miss it there?" asks Jess.Kat pauses for second before she answers. "A little. But the soccer team wasn't as good, and they didn't have any sexy English girls."Jess laughs, and after a few more minutes to get their things together they head to soccer practice together, arms entwined.
