Peter didn’t know Deadpool. Not personally at least, and oftentimes he was told that it was for the best. ‘Keep it that way’, is usually what the response was. What he did know was that Deadpool had a reputation.Peter liked to consider himself inquisitive and eager to learn, he liked to know about all the various superheroes in the city or the ‘mutants’ as the other side of heroes called themselves. Mr Stark explained to him that they stay out of each other’s way. The X-Men keep in their territory and the Avengers stay in their own (that is if we’re only counting the supers located on Earth).Peter kept his distance from the X-Men and he generally didn’t hear much about them outside his initial research on them when he found out about their existence. It was more like some general knowledge he had in the back of his head that he’d learned a long time ago. However, the name Deadpool came up more than anything, enough so that Peter had asked about him on more than one occasion. There was limited information on him, at least information that could be proved true because it was apparent that he talked a lot; oftentimes he didn’t have much meaningful things to say. Or… Appropriate rather. Most of it was summarised as him being a self-indulgent, violent, vulgar, loud and obnoxious prick. While Deadpool came majorly from the X-Men field, Peter discovered that he isn’t actually a part of the X-Men. He flits from affiliation to affiliation in times of need but never stays in one place. He also quickly discovered that Deadpool isn’t actually even a hero. Bruce at one point told him that he’s considered an ‘antihero’, a grey spot in the equation between good and evil. A vigilante of sorts. No one ever really has anything good to say about him so Peter’s general impression of him was low from the get-go.Though he heard the name ‘Deadpool’ often, he’d never actually seen him except in the pictures taken of him, which always looked more like folly than professional documentation. In Mr Starks file on him, the picture of Deadpool was of him in his red suit looking at the camera and holding up two fingers in a ‘cute pose’. Mr Stark explained that no matter how hard they tried, every photo of the idiot ended up looking utterly ridiculous.Considering he’d never seen any of the X-Men in person, he suspected it would be the same for Deadpool, but fate has a funny way of working. The first time he saw Deadpool was in passing.Peter was walking through the Avenger’s building, moving to report to HQ when the vigilante appeared in the corridor accompanied by two guards who were marching him out of a lone office. Peter had stopped his walk to watch, bewildered and fascinated by his appearance, and Deadpool seemed just as transfixed by him, staggering in his walk before he was shuffled along by the guards at his back.Peter and Deadpool maintained eye contact as he was pushed past him, neither saying anything which surprised Peter considering all he heard about Deadpool was his inability to shut his mouth.Peter later found out Deadpool had tried to pinch some vintage wine out of Mr Stark’s office which left Peter reeling because how did he get in?Peter had assumed that was a freak occurrence and if he ever saw Deadpool again it would be another passing moment, but he couldn't have been more wrong because the next time he saw Deadpool was barely a week later.Peter had swung himself to the top of the Avenger’s building after doing his usual routine of scanning the streets when he saw a skirmish happening on the roof.He landed with a pose of defence but quickly realised it was unneeded and even quicker found himself incredibly bewildered and confused. Mr Stark was in his suit along with Captain A and two other guards who were attempting to restrain Deadpool while Captain A fought to pry his shield from Deadpool’s hands. To Peter’s astonishment, Captain A struggled a bit before Deadpool eventually lost their little tug of war.“Wade, for fuck sake, how many times do I have to tell you to stop breaking in here and stealing our equipment?” Mr Stark sighed in an exhausted tone like this was something that happened far too often.“Hey, hey, you’ve got me all wrong Jeffery Bezos, I wasn’t stealing anything! I just wanna borrow it. It wasn’t like he was using it! What good is a shield if it’s just collecting dust while mounted on a wall?” Deadpool defended in a pitched tone as if insulted by the accusation.“What the hell would you have even done with it?” Captain A said as he begrudgingly examined the shield for any noticeable or significant damage.“I just wanted to ski it down the side of the building! Have a little heart, it’s been on my bucket list for a while”, Peter’s eyes nearly bulged at the prospect.“This tower is 93 stories high and you wanted to ski down the side with a shield? Are you crazy!?” Peter couldn’t help himself from speaking and it seemed that only at that exact moment did everyone realise he’d joined the scene.“Kid”, Mr Stark sighed even deeper as he raised a hand to his face like this was a terrible development. “You shouldn’t- “.“Everybody’s gotta die of something right? Why shouldn’t it be cruising down the Elon Musk tower on an America boogie board like in one of those Pixar movies”, Deadpool retorted and Peter looked over at him, hearing the excitement in his voice which made Peter feel even more on edge.“It’s not a boogie board!” Captain A retorted."Why he tried to steal it doesn't matter because nothing he does matters, kid, you really should get going", Mr Stark approached Peter with his hands up, as if getting ready to usher him away.“You really must be a hero, my sweet little spandex model, you’ve given me the distraction I needed!” Deadpool said in a chipper voice before suddenly heaving himself back then throwing his body forward, flipping the two guards holding his arms behind his back and effectively backflipping off the fucking building while flipping Mr Stark and Captain A off.“No! Peter, DON’T!” Mr Stark yelled behind him but Peter was already jumping straight off the building after him, instincts to save kicking in.The fall down might’ve been one of the most confusing instances of Peter’s life.Angling himself downwards so he could dive faster, he could see that Deadpool was in no distress whatsoever. He was falling with his body horizontally, one leg over the other and his arms behind his head like he was lounging on a couch and not falling from over 1000 feet. Despite the absurdity of it, Peter still managed to catch Deadpool before he hit the ground, reaching one hand to grab his bicep while his other aimed up to web the nearest surface.Peter fumbled a bit when Deadpool suddenly climbed his body and clung to him in an oddly intimate embrace, wrapping his arms around his upper body, pushing one thigh between Peter’s legs, and pulling their bodies flush together. Deadpool pressed his face into Peter’s neck and let out a dramatically loud inhaling noise before sighing. “Holland, Garfield or Maguire?” He whispered in a seductive tone.Peter cried out in alarm and his web missed its mark which had him panicking and shooting another belatedly, the two just barely grazing the curb and sending them flying through a tree and into the bushes. It was a rough landing and Peter couldn’t say when Deadpool had again repositioned his body against Peter’s, but when they stopped tumbling, they were not in the position they had been when Deadpool had initially clung to him. Peter was on top of Deadpool, his back against the antihero’s front with his arms secured around Peter’s sides, almost curling him inwards like Deadpool was his shell. Peter could feel every inch of Deadpool’s frame against his back, could feel how much broader he was compared to Peter. Had Deadpool attempted to shield him when they flew through the tree? That idea didn’t really align with the concept of Deadpool being a self-indulgent prick. He could also feel something poking against his lower back which made his mind go blank as if he couldn’t fully comprehend the sensation alongside the events that had just occurred.“You alright, Babyboy?” Came Deadpool’s hoarse voice against his ear and he immediately returned to reality and lunged up and off of Deadpool’s body, spinning around and immediately in a defensive position until he saw the state of him.It appeared that when they went through the tree, Deadpool had been impaled by a stray branch in his abdomen which explained what Peter had felt poking against him. Deadpool lounged back against the bushes and placed his hand near his wound, his entire body going slack like he was just relaxing.“Holy shit! Are you okay?!” Peter immediately cried out as he dropped into a crouch beside the antihero, his hands hovering over the protruding branch as if he wanted to touch but he was too scared to.“You’re so cute fussing over me; if I could, I’d roll onto my tummy and kick my legs like a little girl”, Deadpool responded in a weakly joking voice, his head lolling to the side as he gave a low groan of pain.“This is no time to be an idiot! We- I need to call an ambulance!” Peter said in a rushed voice as he stood up and began pacing, flipping through the installed communications system that Mr Stark had put into his suit. Peter had barely looked away from Deadpool for a second as he spluttered the situation to Mr Stark and when he turned around mid-sentence, he was gone. All that was left of him was a puddle of blood and a torn piece of paper that was slowly soaking up the wet substance. He looked around wildly for where the madman had gone but he was nowhere in sight, leaving Peter completely discombobulated. He hadn’t even sensed him moving, Peter was too frazzled about Deadpool’s condition and trying to get him to help to sense him leaving the scene. He mumbled the situation to Mr Stark, completely in a daze. He felt like he temporarily went braindead, this whole situation was such a surreal mind-fuck. Mr Stark told him not to worry about it in a tone that suggested he’d expected something like this would happen. Peter was left frazzled and confused and mindlessly switched off the channel while staring at the puddle of blood.Slowly, he walked over to it and squatted down, reaching his hand out and picking up the blood-soaked piece of paper that Deadpool must’ve left. It was a heart a butterfly decorated paper, like it was torn out of a little girl’s notebook. The words were smudged and messy but big and bold enough for Peter to make it out.
Call me sometime Babyboy <3 – Wade.
Peter crushed it in his hand, the sopping paper squelching under the pressure. Now he understood why people called Deadpool an obnoxious prick.
