Have you ever wondered what would happen when your life would change in an unexpected way?
But then you didn’t expect that the kind of life that will be changed for you, it will also change yourself as well?
Well…this is the kind of story I’m going to tell you.
About the kind of life I’m supposed to live for and was expected from my family and friends.
But then something happened--that changed my whole life and being--and turned me to another path in life that brought me to something I never thought I would expect to live for from then on.
This all happened…with an unexpected fire…that occurred in one particular family house of a suburban neighborhood.
And…it was my house.
OOOOO“Light!” a woman cried, looking to be the mother of the small family.“Onee-chan!” a small girl cried sobbing, clinging to her mother.“LIGHT!” a man shouted in anger and agony, who is the father and looked like he wanted to run into the burning building that was their house, but he was held back by his wife and daughter, who also clung to him and cried at him to not leave them alone.Just as there are approaching sirens from fire-trucks, ambulances, and police, the small family didn’t know as they watched at their burning house with sorrow…is that the person they thought who was trapped inside the burning building and might be burned alive and dying in there…is alive and was standing far away from the place, watching silently as the chaos and tragic event happened.For this person…is Light Yagami, the eldest and teen girl of the Yagami family, and she’s watching calmly with regret and sadness in her eyes, but there is solid conviction in them as well, because whatever decision she’s made upon faking her death--it is worth it.Then there’s an eerie phantom-like cackle beside her as if amused by what the young female teenager has done. And the girl named Light almost shivered when the phantom intoned in a whisper, almost near to her ear. “Hey, Light…you sure you want to do this? You realize that one day someone will find out that you’re alive?”The girl sighed and looked at the phantom ghost that is beside her with a calm and steely resolving look in her eyes still. “I’m sure, Ryuk. Since you’re the one who started all this…then I’m going to have to finish it. Seriously…of all things to do such things…why did you have to do it because you were bored?”The phantom that’s called ‘Ryuk’ just laughed cackling a bit more, with an eerie sound that almost feels like death is coming for the girl but she’s not phased or disturbed by it. “Well, you have to admit--this is going to be fun! And besides--it’s your fault in the first place for letting your human curiosity get the best of you--and you picked it up!” the phantom teased and mocked her upon pointing it out.The girl sighed again as she brought out what the phantom Ryuk was talking about, under her dark-hooded sweatshirt and holds it with one hand under the moon-light. For the item that Ryuk said that she picked up when he dropped it to the living human world…was a simple notebook.And it simply has the title on its cover ‘DEATH NOTE’.But this is no ordinary note-book.This notebook…gives whoever first touches it…some unexpected abilities that the girl Light doesn’t know whether it’s a gift--or a curse.And since Light is now bound into being the notebook’s owner and that Ryuk will be sticking around and staying by her side until it’s her time to die--it looks like she has no choice.So she faked her death so that she’ll do her duty as Ryuk the phantom and the black magic-like notebook itself willed and forced her life’s decision to be, changing her and her entire life in a whole new different path that she never expected to take.With Light donning just dark clothing-ensemble along with the hood up to cover over her face, and with one bag with money and necessities in it, Light is ready to set out with a whole new identity upon herself, but she’s not ready yet to leave her home country that is Japan and go out to the world to do whatever it is that she’ll be doing.Light still wonders internally to herself whether it was a good or bad thing that she picked up the notebook, but then she didn’t voice her thoughts out loud so that her phantom companion Ryuk would start chattering at her again and try to convince her into something she does not want to do.So she shook her thoughts off mentally for later and then was about to turn around and leave, just as she watched her family cried with sorrow and agony upon the firefighters trying to put the fire out from their house and told the family that it’s no use to getting in there for it’s now too dangerous and that there’s no hope into rescuing whoever’s trapped inside.The teenage girl Light ignored the hurting twinge inside her and deftly ignored the scene as she turns and walks away from it, going down the path that she’ll be taking on from then on, ever since her life changed in a way from picking up the phantom’s black notebook.But before she walked away into the shadows of the darkness beyond the dark alley that she was standing by and watching on…Light wondered to herself deep in her mind.
I wonder how my new life is going to turn out to be…with my new identity as…Detective Kira
Before the girl disappeared, being engulfed by the darkness, her phantom companion Ryuk just cackled eerily.As if it knows something what Light doesn’t know upon seeming-like it read her mind.OOOOOOOOOOCHAPTER 1
…about FIVE YEARS LATER…
[We’re live here at an apartment somewhere--where a mysterious death occurred--!]
[Police are baffled by these unknown causes of deaths concerning the criminal suspects--!]
[There’s been no reports or anyone claiming responsibility for these unnatural killings--police don’t know whether these are suicide or murders--!]
[It’s judgement, I tell you! God has spoken! God has--!]
[I say let whoever’s responsible for the deaths or been doing the killings--be let go and free! Whoever they are--they’re doing the JUSTICE the police should be doing!]
EERIE CACKLE“Oooh…look, Light--you’ve become very popular in a way!” the phantom monster-like ghost teased, hovering near and beside the hooded woman that appeared to be in her young twenties or so.The woman with long dark-brown hair and looking almost very black upon appearance, the dark hood covering over her pale face, but couldn’t hide much of the scary-like red eyes that seem to shine and shimmer over her gray-colored original ones. The woman calmly pulls the hood down more to try to hide them as she watched the latest news through the glass of the display case of various television screens showing upon the TV shop.Then the woman walked away from the see-through glass window of the TV shop’s display case and then muttered lowly to the invisible phantom that kept hovering and floating beside her, as she’s the only one who can see him clearly, in linked to the black notebook that enables her to see the ghostly buddy staying by her side.“Ryuk, how many times do I have to remind you--that it’s Kira now? Not Light!” she spoke in low muttering, almost glaring at Ryuk by the side, while making sure that nobody walking or passing by her, notice talking to herself and think she’s crazy or something.“Whoops! Sorry Kira…I kinda forgot!” Ryuk said, but his manic all-teeth wide grin seemed to show Light/Kira that he’s not phased at all, calling her by her old real name, and it made her frown at him.But then the girl shook her head as if brushing this off for later and then focused on looking at her smart-phone to see what kind of updates she got from the private online site she made years ago, concerning the kind of job she made herself for a living, that is a deep-web hacker and private investigator, by clearly off the books from law enforcement, yet not too illegal to gain attention from them and go to jail for it.The young woman frowned more and also scowled upon seeing what most of the online requests emails or messages were sent to the private secure site she put up both public and deep-web online at the net.“Seriously?! Damn them!” She cursed a little, scrolling downwards to find a suitable one that fits more on the morality she has upon the kind of client list asking for her specific kind of ‘special’ talents to whatever job they want done. “Don’t they have anything better to do than ask me to deal with their ‘mistresses’ or ‘husbands’ they want gone to deal with their marriage problems or something? I don’t have time for these kinds of drama in my case!”“Aww, but Kira--you didn’t mind killing these kinds of guys off when a few of your clients on the site offer you BIG money for it!” Ryuk reminded her with a scary manic grin on his face, almost bordering on serial-killer type but Kira ignored this and she wasn’t phased or disturbed by the kind of expression on her ghost companion.She rolled her eyes and retorts back, “That’s different. And that’s all because those kinds of guys you were talking about--were linked to murders that I helped the police solve them, concerning that they were unexplainable and covered-up cases. It’s all coincidence when those clients found out that I was the one responsible and then paid me the large amount of money as a reward, thinking that I was doing it for them and so. Though in reality, I didn’t know about it until I did.”Ryuk sneered in a frightening way and then said, “You know…no matter how much you deny it, Kira my friend--you won’t be able to stay neutral and gray in your so-called ‘morals’, oh great elusive dark detective. Sooner or later--the lines between what’s right and wrong will blur into one single thing, and that will make most of the people believe that you’re not just some hero lurking in the shadows…but also a killer in some certain people’s eyes.”The woman that called and renamed herself as ‘Kira’ didn’t like the thought of that happening in the future when Ryuk shared and told her this. But then she figured that the kind of situation like that is still far ahead and she’ll be able to make up some back-up plans and contingencies just in case, when it does come at the later future.But for now, Kira will focus on the recent time at hand, and then her eyes found a suitable type of client that’s requesting her abilities, and her silver-like grey eyes seem to shimmer and shine eerily red again like she’s seeing deeper about the client that’s asking for her, and figuring out whether this is a good or bad kind of thing.Then Kira turns off her smart-phone, pockets it, and keeps walking down the street with her invisible ghost-monster companion by her side, like she’s heading to the direction where she’ll meet up secretly with her client that asked for her and set up a private secluded meeting, finding out what kind of case that’s requested for her to solve and deal with.OOOOOMeanwhile, somewhere at another place and country from Tokyo Japan, specifically in London, England…There, sitting awkwardly weird on a chair, squatting on it, was a black shaggy-haired almost very thin-lanky framed male, staring with wide insomniac eyes at his laptop computer, like he’s trying to figure out and decipher a puzzle that he can’t seem to figure out.To those wondering who this weird man is, sitting on that chair like that and looking at the laptop computer on the desk like he’s been working at it for months now… is the infamous elusive world’s detective known and named as ‘L’.Though this man never shows his face among the police, and only through the laptop with the gothic logo of his namesake on it, and also never revealed his real name, this world-class famous detective was known among his exploits on solving many cases, from the easiest to the most difficult and unexplainable among the law enforcement and all kinds of cases and such.However…there is one particular case that this lanky insomniac man is working on…one that he can’t seem to solve or even able to understand the mystery beyond it, and it has been primarily his sole focus upon it, besides still working on other cases, since about three years ago and so.The mysterious and strange case about…Detective Kira.This new and rising famous elusive detective…has seem to baffle and intrigued the same kind of kindred-like detective, such as L, when he first heard about it and some disturbing rumors about this new detective.So far, from most of the law enforcement officers, from normal policemen to the FBI or CIA-kinds--this detective has gone far and beyond on solving unexplainable and disturbing cases, and after solving them--somehow by mysterious yet nefarious-like means and circumstances, the criminals that were linked into doing the crimes or suspected of them, have died instantly upon the cases being solved, either by suicide, sudden accidents, or (in L’s case-kind of thinking) unexplainable murder-type deaths.L had a sudden gut and deep kind of feeling within him that this grey-type hiding-in-the-shadows Detective ‘Kira’ is either a heroic morally kind detective…as well as an unexplainable confusing killer, in his case.Though the deaths of the criminals and suspects were still unsolved about it, but the police didn’t think deeper on it because the cases about what they’ve done has been solved and all were closed after they were done and finished with it, L can’t stop thinking whether this mysterious shadow-type Detective Kira may be a neutral-kind grey-like philosophy-type detective and murderer in the kind of books that he believes or seem to read about this one.However, it frustrated the man L upon finding no answers on how Detective Kira does it, on encouraging, convincing or even forcing the criminals upon meeting a grisly yet quick ends upon death, instead of facing fair trials and be judged by justice and law squarely.It seems that L will have to go to Tokyo, Japan himself…find Detective Kira…and finally solve the mystery, realize and find out what kind of person this elusive hidden detective really is.He didn’t turn away from the laptop computer when he was staring and gazing at the case files solved by the unknown mysterious Detective Kira. L called out, “Watari?”A butler-type looking man appeared from the shadows and bowed his head towards him. “Yes, Sir L?”“Pack our bags and ready for our departure to Japan. There’s a case over there that needs to be solved, both mentally and physically necessary to be there in person and such,” L said calmly, nimbling at his thumb finger by the tip of his nail to his mouth, like he’s pondering and thinking deeply about it.The butler that’s called ‘Watari’ just nodded to him. “Of course L. I’ll have our private jet ready.”Then he turned around and left him alone to do what he’s asked to do by the man L.L kept on nibbling and sucking his thumb with the still thoughtful look on his face, as he kept on staring at the laptop screen, like he’s trying to look deeper into the case files on display there and trying to make it show him the answers he’s looking for upon the mystery that is the new-rising infamous elusive detective.“Who are you…Detective Kira?” he asked softly in a scary-like ominous whisper.OOOOOOOOOOAUTHOR’S NOTES:The first chapter finished!
