It’s with the feeling of eyes on him for the umpteenth time today, does Yoongi look up from his sandcastle. It’s been happening off and on for a while now, and ever since his mom first brought him to the playground a little under an hour ago. Normally he doesn’t mind. It’s good knowing his mom cares but he’s a big boy! He doesn’t need her watching after him constantly. Seeing that his mother isn’t hovering nearby, and is instead talking animatedly to a woman over at the bench, he can only glance around the playground, feeling his confusion doubling right up until his eyes land on a boy. Oh. So not a boogie man. The boy looks around his age, stuffed animal tucked under his chin and held tight to his chest. Okay...maybe a little younger than himself, but he doesn’t look like someone his mom would warn him to stay away from, so he waves shyly, shovel still in hand. The boys eyes widen, brows slipping up past dark bangs as he realizes he’s been spotted. The stuffed animal he’s holding is brought up past his chin but even then Yoongi can still see that his cheeks have turned red. It’s a weird thing to notice, and it has him pausing for all of three seconds as he acknowledges the uncomfortable feeling in his tummy.Yoongi’s not an idiot, he doesn’t think there are butterflies or anything in his stomach. Maybe bunnies because they seem a lot more restless. They’re also cuter. Minjae says its anxiety, but Minjae says a lot of things, like Kumamon isn't real, so he’s pretty sure it’s bunnies.Realizing that now he’s the one staring, Yoongi snaps his head down and tries to return to his work. It doesn’t go well, now that he knows it’s not his mom watching him, and it’s hard to ignore how his own face feels hot. He’d first noticed the boy a little while ago, when he’d just arrived at the playground with his mom. Yoongi had thought he’d come ask to play with him, but so far he hasn’t. He suspects maybe he’s just too shy to ask. It’s cute. Though if the flush on his face is anything to go by, he doubts he’ll go so far as to speak to him. Hopefully he’ll get that he wants to be his friend too.He doesn’t have many, and since he’s always being dragged down to the park for fresh air or something, he gets bored easily. Any chances for a friend- and not one who screams and pounces on him like Seungji, he won’t take for granted.Maybe Yoongi also wants to be friends with him for other reasons, but its not something he really understands. He’s cute from what he can tell, and its weird, especially given the distance they’re at. Before today, he’s never really thought of anyone as cute before, and it’s odd. Girls don’t really look one way or another, sure they’re not ugly, but they’re not cute either. Boys look horrible for the most part. ...well. Not Joonie and Hobi. They’re cute, but the strangers cuter in his own way. Maybe its the fact that he’s not covered in dirt like the other kids his age. Or his eyes. His eyes are pretty. Deep but not in any scary way like monsters in books are. They seem to draw him in, and though he doesn’t understand this, though its just as confusing as why the boy won’t come say hi, it’s fine. Yoongi likes mysteries, and if this is just another one he has to figure out in order to befriend the cute boy then he’s up for it.By the time Yoongi’s finished with his castle, half an hour has passed and he’s even more sure that the stranger wants to be his friend too. He hasn’t looked up a lot. He’s working on a masterpiece and maybe if his castle is cool enough, it will encourage the boy to come talk to him. When he has though, Yoongi’s noticed he seemed a bit closer than before. This is also cute and it would be something to worry about, another discovery to add to his what the heck list if something else hasn’t shoved it out of the way to take first place. The stranger has a nice mouth, but its not like his. Yoongi’s more familiar with this, the shameful curiosity in the back of his mind, wondering what it feels like, because his parents had explained it a few weeks ago, that you can only kiss really nice people you like a lot. He doesn’t think thinking a stranger has a nice mouth means he likes him, but he thinks he could get there. Thinks he might want to, even if he doesn’t know how it would work. Well, if he helps him practice it should work out well.Realizing that the boy is now close enough for him to stare at his mouth, Yoongi blinks, dropping his shovel when he notices the boy has now crept up to the edge of the sandbox, and is looking as if he wants to poke his sandcastle. He hopes he doesn’t, but then again Yoongi had made it to help impress him, and he isn’t one to waste opportunities. “I'm Yoongi.” The strangers reaction is immediate, head snapping up with his voice, only to relax when he seems to notice he isn’t upset.
Why would he be upset...?
He hopes he’s not like Joonie. It’s not that big of a deal if he messes up his hard work. Maybe it would even be a good thing. Yoongi could say that now he needs to help him fix it and he’ll have an excuse to play with him.The boy stares at him for a long moment, brown eyes wide and once again Yoongi’s struck with the thought that they’re pretty. He doesn’t say anything for a while, and Yoongi can’t help but wonder how old he is. He doesn’t look that young. Maybe a few years younger than himself. Five at the very least. He looks like he wants to say something, lips parting ever so slightly, another reminder that his mouth is different, something Yoongi just can’t put his finger on it, before the strangers eyes widen and he’s pressing them together. Yoongi’s not sure what he’s thought better of saying, but its not really a question he can bring himself to ask, especially not when he can’t help but watch as a pink tongue darts out between his lips like a snake trailing after it’s prey. ...Or like he’s trying to figure something out. Yoongi finds this much more reasonableHesitantly, the stranger moves up to him, stopping as their knees knock together and Yoongi can only hold his breath as small hands grab onto his own. His lips part again and this time he looks more determined. Yoongi’s not sure what he’ll ask, but he knows anything he does won’t be something he’ll be able to deny. The strangers cute, simply put. He might be an angel. He’s never understood it when his mom calls him an one, or her little dumpling, but maybe it’s like that. Humans don’t have wings, but he imagines if any were too, they would look like the stranger. He looks kind. Angels are kind. It makes perfect sense.Vaguely, Yoongi can hear a soft voice asking him something, and it’s then, blinking only to find the strangers stopped talking, that he’s filled with dread.
Crap.
He was just asked something. Yoongi nods quickly at the expectant look on his face, not knowing what was said and only hoping that he hadn’t missed his name. The boy in front of him visibly relaxes and Yoongi can’t help but grin at the sight of his lips pulling up. Did he do it...? Did he make a friend? Yoongi wants to tackle the boy into a hug. but he beats him to it, only his neck begins to hurt before his arms can close around his friend, and its all he can do to bite down on his tongue so he doesn’t shout. He can feel his eyes stinging, and his vision blurs as he processes what is happening- exactly why his neck is hurting and what makes the strangers mouth different than his own. It’s a sharp pain at his throat, but after the initial shock wears off, and Yoongi manages to catch his breath, and it’s easier to ignore. At the very least it doesn’t hurt more as he continues to blink back his fading vision. He’s positive he’s just been bitten, and yet, it doesn’t feel like any of the other times. oh my gosh. Yoongi’s not sure he can breathe, and it’s not for any of the right reasons. His mind is buzzing, and his head feels light. It’s a strange sensation.
...good?
Yoongi doesn’t know. Maybe the bunnies are just as confused with whats happening and just happy he’s made a friend. All he really does know is that his neck hurts and theres a throat swallowing against him every few moments.Yoongi’s jaw drops open as the realization sets in. He’s heard of vampires before but he’s never met one- his mom has always said they were all old creeps- the cute boy can’t be a vampire...or is that why he’s cute..? Are only vampires cute?! Yoongi’s eyes widen again with the realization that he’s befriended a vampire. Holy crap- this is so cool. Of course his cute friend is this cool-!He doesn’t know what to say and he’s only relieved that he’s not sure he’d be able to talk if he tried. His throat doesn’t hurt that much, his friend is careful, hasn’t bitten him multiple times and is instead kind enough to rub soothing circles into the top of his hands, but still he’s in awe, and he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to stop blushing. He wants to know if all vampires are this gentle, in the movies his mom doesn’t like him watching they all seem scary. His dad thinks the same, that they’re called monsters for a reason but he just knows his angel is different. Yoongi hopes that he’s the only one. That other vampires are scary and that it’s just his friend thats this nice to hold his hand. He decides immediately, that he isn’t a monster. The boys too kind to be one, too gentle. Plus cute things can’t be monsters! Thats just dumb.Hearing frantic voices growing louder, Yoongi blinks, just now realizing that he’s zoned out, only to find it’s hard to focus. Yoongi blinks again, harder this time and a wordless cry sounds from his friend as he’s pulled off his neck. Wait- no- what’s going on!? Yoongi stares back at the boy in horror, who’s now in the arms of a woman. He’s still staring at him with glossy eyes, blood smeared over parted lips, and as if realizing that they’ve been separated, the vampires eyes grow wide, tears pooling in deep orbs before his lips are trembling.Yoongi scrambles up just as horror washes over him- she can’t separate them- what is she doing?! She’s making him cry! His friend looks scared, his eyes are rimmed red and he keeps glancing between the woman whos picked him up and back to himself. He knows his moms screaming isn’t helping- what is she doing-! Feeling himself go weightless, Yoongi begins to squirm, eyes stinging as he’s pulled into his own mothers arms. He can’t keep himself from crying, and reaching forward desperately, he tries to grab onto the hand extended out to him, only to freeze at the sound of sand crushing. His friend goes still too, and when Yoongi glances down, tears streaming down his face, he sees that she’s stepped on his sandcastle. In the back of his mind, he’s aware that his mothers still screaming as she tries to hold him back. This only makes him want to cry harder. Why is she mad! He’s the one that should be mad! She’s making his friend cry- doesn’t she know he doesn’t want his friend to be upset?! Yoongi can only sniffle loudly, letting out a pained sound as he manages to drop out from his mothers hold and grab the stuffed animal thats been abandoned in the sand. He tries to pass it back to the boy, only for his mom to scoop him up again. His teddy will help right-!? He was hugging it early- he doesn’t want him to cry- he looks scared- why are they even yelling! Can’t they see they’re upsetting his friend!?Yoongi can only watch with a sinking hole in his chest as the woman walks off with his friend staring over his moms shoulder with wide eyes as he’s carried off. Yoongi stays staring for a while, until he can’t see them anymore. It’s only then does he let out a loud sob, drop down to his knees, and press his face into the bears fur. He can feel his mom dabbing at his neck, she’s crying too but it only makes Yoongi want to cry harder. After several moments, all of which Yoongi knows is futile from how damp the neck of his hoodie is, he’s hauled into her arms and all Yoongi can think of as they leave the playground, is that he hopes he’ll see his friend again. It’s been several days since the incident as his moms taken to calling it, and Yoongi still hasn’t given up on seeing his friend again. Seeing as he hadn’t found out his name, he’s perfectly content with calling him the cutie, the angel, or any other variation that seems to fit. At first, his mom hadn’t allowed him go back to the playground, but after a week and a couple of trips to see a strange man in a long white shirt, she’s started letting him again. Despite this, and going to the playground nearly every day, he still hasn’t seen his friend again. Yoongi’s worried. A bit scared, because he doesn’t know if maybe he’d gotten in trouble with the women who took him away. He’s also started sleeping with the teddy. It’s comforting. At the very least he has to take good care of it while he waits to return it. It needs to be in perfect condition, that way when he sees the cutie again, he won’t have to worry that mr.teddy was lonely. Today he’s at the playground again and coloring under a tree with mr.teddy. He’s hoping maybe he can give it to the cutie if he sees him again, to apologize for his mom making him cry. Frowning, Yoongi can only tap a crayon at his page. He doesn’t know what else to add and glancing up he finds his friend still isn’t here. He’s not surprised. Weary, he glances over to where his moms chatting with some of the other parents. He feels like if she weren’t here his friend would show up. This only has him frowning harder. His mom can have friends but all of a sudden once he makes one he has to go home. Yoongi’s still upset.Turning back to his drawing, he reaches for the pink crayon. He should give the doggy a checkered button up like the one the cutie was wearing when they met. ...No. That might be weird. Yoongi doesn’t drop the crayon, still frowning down at the page. It could just be a compliment. It’s only weird if he doesn’t like the shirt. Hearing a soft voice sound next to him, Yoongi forces himself to grunt as he brings the crayon down to the page. It isn't weird. A lot of people have pink checkered shirts. Biting down on his tongue, Yoongi drops the crayon and picks up a black one for the buttons. “Five more minutes mom!” Yoongi says, realizing his mom will not be happy if he’s ignoring her. It’s not even time to go! They just got here and how is he supposed to leave so soon!? What if his friend comes by right after they’ve left!?
“...uh..”
Hearing the soft voice again Yoongi looks up, his eyes widening and a loud gasp falling from his lips as he realizes who it is.“ You came back!” He screams, hurriedly moving to pull the boy into a hug, and squeezing him hard, just so that he can be sure that he’s real. The boy flinches slightly, before he’s relaxing slightly into his hold.“You-...you’re not mad at me?” The cutie's voice shakes ever so slightly and Yoongi jumps back, keeping his hands on his shoulders and staring at him with wide eyes. His friend isn’t looking at him, instead his eyes are trained down on his shoes.“No! Why would I be mad? Why did your mom yell at you?”The boys fiddles with the face mask thats been pushed under his chin, a suspiciously sharp tooth pushing down into his bottom lip. Yoongi might have watched some of those scary movies he’s not supposed to in hopes of learning more about vampires. If his first concern wasn’t making sure his friends okay, he’d definitely be asking him to show him his teeth.“Mom- not my real mom, but she said its bad to bite people- she...she said I hurt you...I didn't mean too! I just…” The boy trails off as tears begin to form in his eyes. Horrified at the prospects of his friend crying again, Yoongi grabs his hand and pulls him down to the grass, before quickly making sure his mom hasn't seen the two of them. He doesn’t think she likes his new friend, and for some reason he has the suspicions that if she sees them together he might make him leave again. The cutie isn't a meanie but his mommy probably thinks so, so he has to make sure they’re not spotted.“It didn't hurt- I promise- I promise!” Yoongi rushes out once he’s sure the coast is clear, moving to hold his hands, and the cutie's shoulders slump as he testingly squeezed his own gently. “Oh- You left this, here!” Yoongi lets go of one of his hands, pressing mr.teddy into them. At this, the vampire eyes lights up, back going straight as his lips fall open at the sight of it, before he’s quickly pressing it to his chest, and burying his face into the toy with happy eyes.“Thank you...I'm Jimin...this is Chimmy!”Yoongi can feel his lips pulling wide as he happily watches the vampire pat Chimmy’s head, lips pulled up with a bright smile.“I'm Yoongi, be my friend?”Jimin nods eagerly, a smile on his lips and immediately Yoongi decides he looks best when he’s happy. He wants to make sure he never feels pain again. He has the right mind to go over and scream at his mom. Jimin didn't deserve to be yelled at! He hadn’t even hurt him!“Since I bit you...” Jimin trails off, looking uncomfortable as he ducks his head down and pulls his backpack down to the grass, before taking out a juice box thats quickly pushed into his hands. Yoongi accepted it, barely able to keep a grin off his face as he passes him some crayons to help him finish his drawing. While they color Jimin tells him about himself. He finds out he’s five (knew it), had just moved here from Busan and that he’s a vampire. A cute vampire but Yoongi didn’t know if he should say this so he doesn’t. Jimin also seems amused by the fact that he doesn’t really know much about his kind and is more than happy to ramble on about what they’re like.Apparently, not all vampires are old ugly bloodsuckers who lived in castles. They’re normal. Something Yoongi wishes Jimin will tell his mom so she won’t die when he tells her about his new friend.Jimin ages just like him, eats human food, and has to go to bed at the agreeably stupid hour of eight pm. His teeth also don’t retract or hurt people like they do in the bad movies. The only difference between the two of them is that Jimin needs to drink blood in order to survive, just like he has to eat his veggies or he’ll die. Normal stuff! After finishing their drawing, Yoongi pulls Jimin up with him, holding his hand as they sprinted over to where his mom is sitting.“Mommy! Mom- mom! Look what me and Jiminie made!”His mom glances up from her phone looking at the drawing shoved in her face with a smile. Not her real smile but she hasn’t said anything about Jimin so he doesn’t care.“That's very nice dear…” His mothers voice trails off, her mouth thinning as she spots Jimin. Dang it. The vampire stiffens beside him, clearly not liking her expression, Yoongi tightens his grip on his hand, feeling exactly the same. “Yoongi baby, go get your things- it’s getting late.” She says late like Jimin’s one of the monster that pretends its not hiding in the dark corners of his room whenever she comes to tuck him in bed. Yoongi wants to object. It’s not late and even if it is she’s only saying this because of Jimin! Jimin’s grip is tensing around his own, and realizing that he might be carried off again, Yoongi forces himself to nod, narrowing his eyes at the way his mother is staring at Jimin as if he’ll bite. He almost wishes he’d bite her, at least so she can see that its not that big of a deal!“Help me Jiminie!” Yoongi begs, silently hoping it will upset his mother. Jimin only nods, not hesitating to race after him as he pulls them back to the safety of their tree.“I don't think your mommy likes me.” Jimin starts, voice soft and distant as he tosses some of his markers into a small pouch. Yoongi grunts, looking up and he’s horrified to see his cutie wiping at his eyes.“Mommy doesn't like a lot of people...she calls me a dumpling sometimes! I don’t even like dumplings! She’ll like you one day- don't worry! ” Yoongi replies taking the pouch and pushing it into his kumamon bag.“What if...what if we don't see each other again?” Jimin asks, Chimmy hugged to his chest and a sad look on his face. “Can you come back here in two days? He asks. Jimin frowns biting his lip.“I tried to come back before, but mommy said no, said I was bad...what if I ask to come back and she says no again?” Jimin is looking across the park, following his gaze he could see both their parents talking. Neither of them looked happy. He’s glad Jimin isn't near them again.“Say you wanna come back in two days- she says no, ask again in two more days and then we can play again!”Jimin considers his words before nodding quickly.“You're so smart Yoongi."Yoongi can’t help but grin and his face heats up. He doesn’t want to part like this, leave regretting one thing or another, so Yoongi swallows down his nerves and brings his hands up to cup Jimin’s face, and quickly pressing his lips to the vampire's cheek like he’s seen some of the grownups do. When Yoongi pulls back, he finds Jimin’s blushing, cheeks a dark crimson, but his smiles grown. Jimin doesn’t leave immediately, and after a moment he leans in, quickly returning the action before he dashing off to his mother, and waving goodbye to him. Lucky for Yoongi his plan had worked. His mother had unsurprisingly, outright refused to take him to the playground Tuesday, but Thursday she reluctantly agreed after he had started crying. It’s a dirty trick, but then again so is saying it’s late when it’s not so he doesn’t care. The first thing he does when he gets to the playground is tackle Jimin to the dirt, grinning happily and barely resisting the urge to stick out his tongue at his mom.His mother looks angry with the stunt he’s pulled- clearly knowing by their faces they'd done so on purpose, but thankfully she doesn’t try to separate the two of them as they play. She’s just being a ‘big get’. That's what hyungie called her, and he’s smart so it has to be true. Big-git...? No it was something different...big-it? Yeah he think's thats right. All he knows is that it means something bad, and hurting Jimin’s feelings is the worst thing out there so it’s accurate. He can feel her gaze on them as they play, but he’s still happy that his plan had worked, that he can see his friend again, so it’s easy to ignore. Besides! Jiminie’s nice! Who cares if he’s a vampire! He’s good to him and that's what matters.Ever since then, spending time with Jimin is easier, and they manage to work in at least two dates a week. Dates. Not playdates because when he’d shortened it his mom looked like she wanted to tell him off but can’t. Jimin’s mom is a lot more open to their friendship than his own mom. Yoongi had thought that this would be a good thing, and it is, but its also upsetting. He doesn’t like to think that other moms can be fine with their friendship, just not his own. This is only encouraging. Yoongi thinks that if his mom doesn’t agree to their friendship, then there are good alternatives. Apparently, his mom doesn’t think marrying Jimin is a good alternative. She’d looked like she was in pain when he’d suggested it, and okay he was a little insulted. A little smug too, because she looked ready to fall to the floor. He knows its bad to upset her, that she can forbid him from seeing Jimin for a week but it’s well worth it, especially when she’s not as judgie when he talks about Jiminie his friend, even if this feels wrong. It’s easy to forget though, especially when his mom had easily caved in to Jimin coming over for a play date, with the mention of his friend, and it in fact being a play date. For the most part, the two of them just talked. Yoongi didn’t want to suddenly ruin things, especially when his mom doesn’t like the idea of them playing tag in the backyard, even though its normal for kids to be chasing each other, even if one of them is a vampire. While Jimin is over, he finds out the younger will be attending his grade school when summer ends and Yoongi isn’t sure its healthy to be this happy. This means they can spend more time together! And most importantly- parentless time together! He doubts they'll have any classes together, but third graders are allowed to read to younger classes- so if he studies reallyyyyy hard, him and Jimin can spend an hour together! A whole hour! He hates reading, but if it’s for Jimin, and he won’t look so on edge whenever one of their parents are in the room, then he can at least try. It’s a few playdates later, before Yoongi’s finally able to convince Jimin that its okay if he drinks from him again. Honestly it’s greedy, more for himself. He’s not sure why, but he likes the idea of helping Jiminie, especially when he’s said that blood bags taste bad. That his blood had tasted good.Yoongi still thinks this is weird. Really weird. Shouldn’t blood just taste like blood...? Chicken nuggets don’t taste different depending on the bag they’re from, so it doesn’t really make sense. Still, Jimin’s his friend, and he’s reasonably suspicious that even if his blood tasted bland, he’d still want to help. That isn’t to say that Jimin wants his help. He’s against the idea, and for a moment he’s scared he’s talked with his mom, that she’s convinced him that he shouldn’t drink his blood, until he realizes that Jimin wants too. It’s not something Jiminie’s admitted, but Yoongi is just as stubborn. It takes a while to convince him, but after explaining his plan for hiding the puncture marks, that his plan for getting them to see each other again had worked (he’s not Min Genius Yoongi for nothing), and a lot of insisting that it really didn’t hurt, Jimin finally accepted his offer. The second time Jimin drinks from him, he doesn’t take as much as he had the last time, only just scratching the surface of his throat with his teeth, and pressing kisses to the wound once he’s done. Like last time, he’s surprised, but just the same he finds it hard to mind. Whenever Jimin kisses him he feels giddy, the bunnies return but they don’t seem as restless anymore. They’re familiar, and now he isn’t as bothered by them. Jimin’s kisses are nice, something he’s decided he likes. This also feels like something he shouldn’t admit. He doesn’t know why, but whenever he considers it his chest gets tight so he decides its for the best if he keeps this to himself. It takes a little over a year, for Yoongi to realize that maybe his feelings for Jimin aren’t normal, or at least not something he should act as if are common place. It’s something his dad has always spoken about in passing, people at school too, but he’s never really understood it before this past week. He’d told his dad that he liked Jimin. It’s not weird or anything. Everyone likes Jimin. It wasn’t exactly anything new either. He’s never felt like he should hide this fact, but for whatever reason his father finally seemed to realize that he likes Jimin in a different way then Joonie, Hobi, or Jin hyungie. In turn, Yoongi realized something too. That his dad thinks this is disgusting. He’s not sure in which way. He’s heard of people who don’t like vampires, or nice boys.He doesn’t know which one his father meant. Just that it isn’t right and that Jimin will only ever see him as prey.It hurt. Yoongi knows this isn’t true. He’s not seven anymore. He won’t just believe anything. But still, theres this ache in his tummy and he can only wonder if Jimin’s felt it too. If maybe he’d be able to say something to make him feel better. Yoongi doesn’t know how to explain it though. He’s a little scared Jimin might feel the same. That maybe Jimin doesn’t like him any differently than their other friends, or maybe he also thinks there friendships unnatural because he could eat him.He knows he can ask him. Jimin’s just a few feet away from where they’d fallen asleep on his floor. Yoongi’s not sure he can though. Jiminie has already asked a lot of questions tonight. Like why he wanted to sleep over tonight and not their usual Friday, and what he’s mad at his dad for. He hadn’t known how to answer. It was weird, Jiminies mom had come over after dinner, and he thinks maybe his mom had asked if he could sleep over with Jimin. He’s grateful. He doesn’t know how to feel, and his friends sure words that however he feels about his dad will blow over, hadn’t helped. He’s not sure it will. He’s not sure he wants it to and he’s never felt like this before. He can tell his dad thinks this is just a thing that will go away. That he just misunderstands whatever it is his dad doesn’t, but with every day he spends with Jimin, he can tell the feelings are only getting stronger and he doesn’t want this to change. He likes Jimin. Likes liking Jimin. Somehow, this helps.“...Jiminie?” Yoongi reaches across the floor, shaking the younger. Jimin groans softly, rolling over in his pile of blankets, and blinking awake slowly. Maybe he shouldn't be asking him something like this so suddenly, especially when he’s half asleep.“What is it hyung?”“Can...-can you er, ” His hesitance only seems to help wake Jimin up more. Guilty, he watches the vampire sit up, and shuffle over to where he’s lying on the floor. He can just barely make out his form in the dark, but even then he can tell he’s concerned. “Um...I...” Yoongi doesn’t know how to ask it. “I was wondering...do you think its okay...that we kiss...?” Jimin blinks back at him, looking tired and a little confused.“...yeah...you like me don’t you...? As long as you kiss people you really like it’s okay.” He does, but Yoongi’s not sure he knows how he means. He’s not even sure in which way he means. Nonetheless he forces himself to nod. “Do you want a goodnight kiss...?” Jimin doesn’t sound as concerned anymore, already pressing a finger into his cheek. Yoongi can only hum softly, and moments later his lips are on his cheek.“...not there.” Yoongi whispers. He’s scared, watching Jimin carefully as he blinks back at him. “...Oh.” Jimin breathes. He’s a few years younger, but Yoongi knows he’s understood. He doesn’t get long to be scared about how he might feel though, because he’s pressing his lips to his own. He hadn’t really expected it to feel like anything, but sure enough it has his chest full and heart steady. It’s weird, he can almost feel Jimin’s own heart beating through his lips. It’s weird, but at the same time comforting. It’s better than just kissing someone on the cheek, he feels like this is so much more meaningful now that he can feel Jimin pressing back.“You could have just asked.” Jimin says it like its that easy and maybe it is. At least here in Jimin’s room, while its too dark for anyone else to see him like this, throat aching and close to crying, it’s easy to accept. Easy to smile as Jimin settles down beside him and presses his face into his neck, prey or not. By the time Yoongi’s entered high school, he has a better understanding on a lot of things. Homophobia and a strong prejudice towards vampires included, though he’s still uncertain which one his dad objects too. It’s still not something he gets, but now he can’t really bring himself to care, at least not when Jimin keeps him distracted. Thanks to how the schools set up their classes, by some miracle, him and Jimin have several shared, and he’s reasonably sure seven year old him would die on the spot if he knew now the two of them don’t spend hardly any time apart. It’s good like this, being able to spend time with his best friend, even if he’s sure that their friendship, really will only ever be just that, and not whatever childhood casualties that could be shrugged off because they were children. He’s pretty sure Jimin’s gay though. He’s his best friend, and certainly not a blind one. He’s seen the way he’ll look at Taehyung sometimes, and well...it’s like staring through a mirror. It hurts, but he’s happy. Genuinely. He loves Jimin and if Taehyung makes him happy then who is he to fight it, even if it tends to hurt more lately. Now, more than ever, Jimin isn’t the same as when they were kids. He’s not his cutie anymore. He’s beautiful as he’s always been, but its not something he can label without feeling like he’s somehow insulting that he’s also cute, charming, hot, and every other variation of attractive. He feels like this might be as seven year old Yoongi suspected, a vampire thing, but he’s even more sure it’s just a Jimin thing. He might be a little biased, but he knows him best so who’s to blame him if he’s just telling the truth. Thankfully, their closeness hasn't faded as they’ve aged. Unfortunately for him, this is probably the only thing thats remained. Ever since highschool, Jimin’s made a name for himself, and he’s a lot different than the shy boy he had first met- he’s still shy, still sleeps with Chimmy- but there's a lot more layers to him now. He’s the only vampire at school, so for the most part people avoid him. He wishes they didn't know that about him, it feels like an invasion of privacy. There has to be some law meaning people can’t just know if someone’s human or not. It’s not fun for him either. Having people come to him in classes he’s alone in, always does test his temper, especially when they imply that Jimin- kind, sweet Jimin who’s really nothing more than an overgrown puppy, is just using him for his blood. It’s even less fun considering a lot of them aren’t really worried, and have just stopped by to mock him because Jimin will smell their blood on his fists if he decides to punch them, and seeing as he doesn’t want his Jiminie killing they can get away with it. A lot of people are scared of Jimin, so thankfully this is a rare occurrence. Jimin is well, of course a vampire, in a human school and so it’s a given. It doesn’t matter that Jimin has absolutely zero self control, and this results in him receiving monthly texts that someones gotten detention for breaking someones nose. Honestly, Jimin probably gets in fights once a week, he’s just never really caught. Hell, even half of the teachers here are weary of him, he wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out they just don’t care to report him.The fights certainly don’t help with his reputation, but honestly Yoongi’s tired. It’s not like Jimin’s a rogue vampire, that he’ll drink from them. It’s very illegal and Jimin’s an angel. He’s above such things. Besides, as an angel he’ll probably poison himself tasting the blood here, so its for the best.“Sorry I'm late hyung,” Jimin whispers, tearing him out from his trail of thoughts as he passes him a cup of coffee, and settles into the desk beside him. This, coming to class late with coffee, doesn’t exactly help with his reputation either.Yoongi can only hum, not looking up from his laptop as he continues to type out what the teacher is saying. “Where were you?”“Seungji was mocking Kookie, he’s at the nurse now...probably- if he’s not bleeding out.” Jimin comments offhandedly.Yoongi stares at his blinking cursor for a moment before glancing up and trying to gauge if Jimin’s serious or not. ...Nevermind. It probably isn’t going to be too good for his sanity for him to actually know. Sighing he moves his thumb forward to brush at the corner of Jimin's mouth, only to pull a face when the vampire happily licks the blood off his thumb.“You are aware drinking human blood is a crime and you're the only vampire here.”Jimin ignores him, brushing a hand through his hair with a small grin toying at his lips.“You are aware that half the school thinks I'm in a gang of monsters right? The day Seungji grows the balls to tell will be the day I marry him.” Jimin sighs, resting an elbow on his desk and staring ahead thoughtfully.Yoongi can only roll his eyes, bring his cup to his lips, only to promptly choke on his tongue at the metallic taste flooding his tongue. Resisting the urge to spit up the liquid, he swallows hard. Pushing the cup towards Jimin he takes the other one with a glare.“That isn't fucking coffee. ” Yoongi hisses, downing the drink as he tries to burn the taste of blood from his mouth. Jimin flushes, smiling apologetically as he takes a drink of his own.“It's only artificial flavoring...Vampire five-hour energy if you will.”Yoongi elbows Jimin into shutting up, turning his attention back to the front of the room. About halfway through the class, Jimin has pulled his attention away from the teacher in better favor of staring across the room at Taehyung. Again, the pang to his chest returns and Yoongi finds it hard to focus on the lesson. “You like him?” He asks softly, nudging his head towards the younger. Jimin makes an odd noise in the back of his throat.“Not like that...he’s just...my platonic soulmate,” Yoongi nods to this, trying to appear casual and not let the relief show on his face. “He lost a bet, he has to kiss Jin hyung by the end of class or I get a few hundred won.” Yoongi can only roll his eyes. He should have known that the person who bets on their own fights would be up to this. Glancing to the side Yoongi can see Jimin’s phone lying open on the desk, with several messages to Taehyung telling him to get on with it.“Do you like anyone?” Jimin only asks this when Yoongi’s bringing his cup up to his lips, and he chokes again. He’s beginning to get the feeling that Jimin wants his hoodie to be stained with coffee because he refuses to kill his laptop. Swallowing sharply, he doesn’t bother to acknowledge this with a reply and Jimin doesn’t press. The rest of class goes by without much conversation, though he doesn’t miss how Jimin sends him half a dozen looks throughout the class. It’s not unnerving as it otherwise might be. He doubts Jimin knows. He doubts he would really care. If he’s being honest with himself, he probably does know and just loves him, is truly an angel, through and through, and is too kind to bring this up.After class has ended, Jimin leaves ahead of him while he stays behind to speak with the teacher about test corrections. Walking off campus ten minutes later, he finds he can only groan in exasperation at the sight of a crowd thats gathered in the middle of the field. Cutting his way through the circle Yoongi bends down, barely phased as he tries to pries Jimin off of some poor first year.“Yoongi- fucking move damnit- ” Jimin shouts as he hauls him off of the boy, and tries to pull him out from the circle. It’s something he thinks is routine, at least until he catches sight of Jimin's lips quirking up dangerously, to expose sharp fangs. Yoongi stumbles back for a moment, swallowing anxiously. That isn't a good sign. He let his eyes jump over Jimin's face. He looks pissed. Beat to death then eat some freshmen in front of a crowd- pissed. “No-! you can't- you're going to get suspended for fuck's sake-” Jimin ignores him, pulling free of his grasp.“Jimin stop- stop thinking of your fucking ego-” Yoongi doesn’t let him get far, only grabbing at Jimin’s hood and pulling him away. He doesn’t let go until he’s grabbed Jimin’s discarded bag with his free hand and they’re off campus. Even though Jimin’s never really been one to fight against him, Yoongi knows this isn’t like other times. That Jimin’s mad. Mad enough to kill and probably not all too happy with being dragged away by the scruff of his neck like a disobedient cat.The school already believes that he’s the only person who can put the vampire in his place, this will certainly only fuel it even more. He personally finds it amusing- although Jimin always proclaimed that it ruins his reputation. Not that he has much of one in the first place. He knows he isn't as bad as he himself likes to believe, or his classmates for that matter, which is why he can’t just let him kill someone. "Jimin chill- what the hell happened?” Yoongi shouts as Jimin pulls away from him, and looking as if he might bleed him dry for defying him. Yoongi ignores the treacherous parts of his brain that entertain that thought. “Jimin! ” Jimin only acts as if he hasn't heard him, adjusting the bag over his shoulder and continuing to walk off as if nothing happened. As if he isn’t very clearly itching to murder someone and he won’t even tell him why! Annoyed, Yoongi grabs Jimin’s hair this time.“Tell me what happened!” “Damnit Yoongi let go!” Jimin pulls away from him, stumbling back and panting. “Tell me!” Yoongi wants to know. He’s his best friend, he has every right to know! Jimins still mad, looks like he wants to push him. For a moment he thinks he won’t tell him, that he needs to yell at Jimin some more before Jimin finally turns his eyes out to the street. “He asked me if you were a good blood whore. If I would fucking share! ” Jimin spits, and Yoongi can only stare, frozen in shock as he realizes that the implications.“You...you were sticking up for me?” Yoongi stutters, moving closer to Jimin and forcing him to look at him. Jimin only rolls his eyes in annoyance, cheeks tinted. “Yes I was fucking sticking up for you! You think anyone at school has the balls to say shit about what I am? It's always about who I hang out with and what they want to do with them!”
Oh.
Tears are pooling in Jimin's eyes, as if noticing them himself the vampire drags his arm over them, a strangled noise leaving his throat as he balls his fists. Swallowing down his pride, Yoongi quickly pulls Jimin to his chest, ignoring just how much he’s shaking against him.“I...I'm sorry I got mad...thank you...b-but I can handle myself, you know what happens when I visit my grandparents in Daegu- I'm never the one who ends up hurt...” Jimin only grunts, face buried in his neck.“I...Yoongi, I love you- I love you so much- I can't stand hearing people saying shit about you- they say it because they hate me but they shouldn't drag you into this!”“I…I love you too, you don't need to protect me though,” Yoongi mumbles softly, running his hands through his hair.“You love me?” Jimin snaps his head up his voice watery. He hadn’t meant for it to come out like this. So honest. Shakily he nods, he doesn’t seem disgusted at the prospect and denying it’s no good. The vampire stays staring at him for a while, before slowly his lips turn up. “Oh.”Jimin stares at him for a while, his eyes jumping across his face before landing on his lips.Suddenly Yoongi’s struck with the thought that maybe Jimin likes him like this too.“Can...can I kiss you Jiminie?”Jimin doesn’t reply or give him any longer to linger on what he’s just asked- simply surging forward and capturing his lips harshly. It’s not like when they where kids, this one feels more, has his heart pounding and hands jumping up to cradle Jimin's face so he won’t pull away. Him and Jimin haven’t kissed in years and he's forgotten just how much he’s missed having Jimin close and being able to breathe him in.“...I’ve missed this.” The vampire echoes his thoughts as they part but they still stay close enough that his face stays warm with his breath. Yoongi can only nod, mind buzzing as he hesitantly wipes at the bruise on his cheek.Jimin had gotten it defending him. It’s a painful thought. Jimin’s really too kind for his own good, but they’re best friends. They’ve learned from each other and it’s not like anyone will ever do anything more than talk. Still, Yoongi can’t help but feel guilty.“...my dad’s not home. You can feed at my place...and we can cuddle?” He asks slowly. Jimin only smiles gently, leaning in and quickly pecking his lips. When he pulls back, he doesn’t look as if he doesn’t want to beat up the freshmen anymore, he still looks upset, but theres a weight to his eyes that hadn’t been there before and Yoongi can’t help but smile too. Yoongi guesses that he’d been right all along, that when it comes to Jimin, there are better alternatives to friendship, so long as they have each other.
