This is the first time I am writing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fanfic. This story is inspired by many other anime. But mostly it is from another PMD fic The Ebonor Edda Book 1: Mantle of Bones by 16Doobop13. Thanks, 16Doobop13.

Chapter 1: A New Generation

In the year 1407, a strange artifact known as "Soul orb" was discovered in the continent of Eudrox. This mysterious artifact has the power to resurrect any pokemon from the dead. Three nations Trallanea the small northern nation mostly covered in Tundra. Dalonton is a central nation mostly covered in the Desert. And Fepusa the largest southern nation mostly covered in Rainforest. These three nations fought for possession of the soul orb. This artifact was on the west of the continent in Arlingcona Island. The three nations fought each other on this island. During the war, this Island was war zone. The three nations forced the island inhabitant to either join their side or die during crossfire. The war continued over years. A Celebi shattered the orb into nine pieces and scattered it on a different part of Eudrox. Sacrificing her life to stop the war. The war stopped and a new generation came with new beliefs. The continent was restored. They came into mutual understanding and united themselves. But somewhere a dark force is gathering all nine shards.

Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 23rd March Year 1468

Olisberg is a small town of Fepusa nation on the southwest coast. Olisberg is a quiet town with many farmlands. People in this town live a modest life. The villagers are independent and can look after themselves. They don't need any help from nobles, landlords, or even the capital city. Near it, a small forest was situated and at the edge of it, stood a tall rock. And, meditating on the rock, was a middle-aged Lucario named Edgar, most likely a male. It seemed to be focused, hurdling in deep thought.
"Ray, are you sure you want to do this?"
Around a corner a Male Machop and female Meditite along with a Riolu were hiding behind the bushes, quietly focusing on the Lucario.
Riolu only gave a nod at Machop's question. Meditite sighed in disbelief.
"Seriously guys, you want to assault Teacher? You know this is his secret training ground. He always comes here to meditate." Meditite said with a pout. She was a Meditating Pokémon. So she knew how much irritating was it for someone when he or she gets disturbed while meditating.
"Shut up, Reina." Ray, the Riolu among them, said with a low voice, still not moving his eyes from their teacher.
"What did you just say, did you tell me to shut up?!" Meditite's voice rose. She lost her temper and was about to deliver two or three punch at Ray but the Machop stopped her.
"Get your hands off of me, Reid, let me teach that shitty raccoon two or three things before he gets pulverized by Teacher." Reid sighed. Ray gave a hesitant look at Reina before turning his eyes back to the Teacher. But right then, he regretted it. He saw something he didn't want to. Lucario was gone. His Teacher disappeared.
"Don't tell me..." He turned around and sighed. Edgar, their Teacher, held two fighting type Pokémon upside down, they had swirling eyes.
"When did you-" Ray got hit by a strong Force Palm attack before flying meters back, crashing on the rock.
"You were too loud." Edgar then again appeared right in front of Ray in the nick of a second.
"How-"
*BOOM*
A huge explosion occurred right there. As the smoke slowly cleared. Edgar smirked a bit.
"No wonder, I felt something odd hitting my Bone Rush."
As the smoke cleared, Ray was visible. His eyes were blue in the depth of Aura and his hands glowed as red as blood.
"You stopped it with Force Palm...but it's already over." Edgar said, indicating Ray to look at his arms. They were broken.
"Gahhhhhhhhh!" Ray screamed in pain. Edgar sighed.
"You're too young to defend my attacks, Ray... You should either dodge or resist it with your whole body." Edgar said.
"I'm sorry... ... Now heal them already!" Ray couldn't resist the pain anymore. Edgar gave another sigh.
"Who should be the one to give orders..." Soon Edgar used heal pulse on his arms, and after 10 minutes they were fully healed.
"Why? You" They both started bickering more. Edgar closed his eyes and sighed saying "here we go again".
"That's enough you two. Now since you two act like you are better than each other. How about you two go against me? I will be your opponent. You two have to work together to get any chance of success." Edgar said to make them get along with each other.
"Make sure you don't mess this up." Reid said with a smug smile.
"You make sure you keep up with me" Ray replied.
"Alright three two one go!" on Edgar's order, they both charged at Edgar.
Ray goes for a quick attack. Reid performs a Low Kick. Just in time, Edgar jumps out of the way. The low kick hits Ray and he falls. Reina giggles.
"Hey watch where you attacking at" Ray yelled. "Not my problem you came in the way." Reid replied as they glared at each other. Edgar takes the opportunity to hit them both on the head.
"Focus you are in the middle of a fight. Your enemies will use this opportunity to strike you. Plan your teamwork and stop bickering among yourselves." Edgar said with a serious tone.
"Now then start again"
"Reid I have a plan but just this once I am working with you." Ray whispered his plans in Reid's ears. Both of them exchanged a nod.
Reid charges towards Edgar and performs a Low Sweep. Edgar jumps over it. Reid gives a smug smile as Ray jumps and prepares to use force palm. Edgar quickly uses bone rush to block and he is sent back with a broken bone. The bone rush disappears.
"I see the low kick was just decoy while the real attack was force palm." Reina continued. "They may pretend to hate each other but they work well when they are serious."
"Reid?" Ray asked to which Reid nodded. Both of them charge towards Edgar while keeping a safe distance not to end up hitting each other. Both perform Force palm and Karate chop. Edgar grabs their hands and stops their attack.
"Well done both of you. Now take some rest." Edgar pated them on heads. Both of them grinned at each other.

Fepusa Nation, Olisberg Village, 24th March, Year 1468

At midnight Ray woke up. He tried to sleep again but couldn't. So he decided to take a walk and drink water. As he exited the room he saw Edgar sitting outside gazing at stars. Ray approached him.
"Couldn't get sleep?" He asked. Edgar looked at him then again at stars.
"I was supposed to ask you that." He replied.
"I couldn't sleep so-"
"It's alright I know. Come take a seat" Edgar pats near to him. Ray seats beside him.
"It's about your wife and son isn't it?" He asked. Edgar's eyes widened. "Sorry I know it's none of my business but you miss them don't you".
"Yes I do and you must also miss your parents. The war for soul orb has caused many deaths. Many innocent get dragged into the crossfire. Pokemon become orphans, widows. I fear the history might repeat. But it's up to the new generation to put a stop to it. When my wife and son died I couldn't continue the fight anymore. As a soldier, I have killed countless soldiers. Then I meet you three. You three have given me a new purpose to live. To teach young generation not to make the same mistake as old generation."
"Ray you remind me of my son." Edgar looks at him. Ray was silently sobbing.
"Thank you sensei for looking after us I miss my mother and father."
"Now, now go drink water and go to sleep." Edgar said. Ray wipes tears from his eyes and nods.

Fepusa Nation, Olisberg Village, 24th March, Year 1468

In the morning Edgar was pacing in the backyard looking up at the sky as if waiting for someone. Reina noticed him and gave worried look.
"Sensei, are you waiting for someone?" She asked.
"No it's just delivery Pidgeott" he replied still walking back and forth.
"Is it something important?" She asked.
"I can't say it's classified" He replied. "Besides I don't want to drag you into this"
"You can tell it to us, sensei." Reid said as he came around the corner with Ray.
"Well I was going to tell you someday might as well be today. Now listen you three I will only repeat it once. You have to promise that you will keep this secret."
Reina gulped. "Sensei you are scaring me."
"The parcel contains one of the nine shards of soul orb." Edgar said. The three of them gasped.
"What soul-" Reina stomps Reid on his leg for talking loudly. "Ouch, why you did that for" He yelled at her.
"Keep your voice low we don't want the whole village to know" Reina gave her death stare.
"Sorry" Reid apologized.
"As I was saying" Edgar continued. "My old friend Adrian found it while he was treasure hunting. He immediately recognized that it is soul orb shard. He said that he can't protect it and hiding might get more risky. So I said I will take responsibility to protect it. Plus no one will suspect it to be in a village."
"Then why not just crush it into many pieces." Ray suggested.
"It won't work a common pokemon won't be able to even make a scratch. Remember it cost Celebi her life to break it. She used too much power it cost her life."
"The Pidgeott is taking too long. I'm afraid something might have happened to him." He looked at the three of them about to say something but stopped midway. "No, no, I will be leaving now to go look for him."
As he was about to leave Ray stopped him.
"You don't have to trouble yourself with minor things like that." Ray said.
"We will find that Pidgeott for you it can't be that hard." Reid said confidently.
"We will make sure that the shard comes to you safely." Reina said with a soft smile.
Edgar was thinking if it was safe to send them alone outside the village. He hesitated but he made his final decision
"Now this is the first time I am sending you outside it would have happened sooner or later." He sighed. "Very well then, you have to rescue the Pidgeott and make sure the soul orb shard is secure. The shard is hidden in an iron ingot remember that." Edgar said
Fepusa Nation, Olisberg Village outskirts, 24th March, Year 1468
"The Pidgeott must have taken the straight route from Vlinrora city to Olisberg village." Edgar pulls out Fepusa map.
"Here is Vlinrora city to the east from here." Points to the map and continues. "If we draw a line from Vlinrora city to Olisberg village. The Pidgeott must have been somewhere in central Olisberg forest. It's just a rescue mission and if you encounter enemy avoid unnecessary fights."
The three of them nods.
"Now Reina what supplies have you taken?" He asked.
"Five Oran berry, Three Pecha berry, and one Cheri berry" Reina looked into her bag.
"This is your first task without me. Ray, I am putting you in charge. Does anyone have a problem?" Edgar asked. "No sir" they replied.
"Alright now good luck" Edgar smiled. The three students headed for Olisberg forest.

Chapter 2: Search For The Soul Orb Shard

Fepusa Nation, Olisberg Forest, 24th March, Year 1468

Olisberg forest is the richest in natural resources than any other forest in Fepusa. The most high-quality wood comes from this forest and it is exported all around Eudorox. There are also many mines around the forest be it gold, silver or iron. Some are abandoned while some are active. Travelers are warned not to wander into these mines.
The trio walked into the forest. Retracing the route messenger Pidgeotto took. The group walked with an awkward silence. Finally, Ray brooked the silence.
"So, Reid and Reina. What do you think happened to the Pidgeotto?" Ray asked.
"He or she might be injured or lost." Reina said.
"Or dead." Reid added. Reina's eyes go wide. "What?" he asked
"Look I was just being optimistic." Reina rolled her eyes.
"I appreciate your optimism Reina but Reid is right." Ray continued. "A flying Pokemon doesn't get lost easily."
"Ok, ok" Reina sighed. "How do we look for Pokemon in this huge forest? Even if our search zone is narrowed it will take days."
"I know, we should pay close attention to our surroundings then we might get a clue or trail." Ray suggested.
"Alright, captain genius what are we supposed to look at?" Reid asked.
"Anything related to Pidgeotto footprints or feathers" Ray said.
The trio continued through the forest searching for anything Pidgeotto related. After searching for a while. They found some needles pinned on the ground. It was most likely someone who used poison sting. The poison sting left a trail like someone was walking. Ray examines the spot.
"Everyone stay on your guard. There could be an enemy nearby" as he said. They all stand back to back. Looking around. After a few moments, they sighed.
"It looks clear to me. For now, that is" Reid said.
"We should follow the trail." Reina said on which everyone nodded.
They follow the trail and discover something horrific since the war. The trio gasped at the sight. A dead Pidgeotto stabbed by many poison sting needles. A pool of blood around it and still some blood dripping from wounds and mouth. Ray looked at it.
"I am sorry we were late." He said. He approached the bird pokemon. "Whoever did it will pay."
"What do we do now? We should go back to sensei. I am scared" Reina said. She was shaking with fear. She thought that she wouldn't see that sight.
"Reina calm down take a deep breath." Reid tries to calm her down.
"Reid and Reina keep a lookout. I will see if I get some clue about who did this." Ray gave subtle smile to Reina. To which she nods.
Ray examines the body. After a while, he removes all needles carefully. Making sure he doesn't get poisoned. He lays the body so that he may rest in peace.
"Rest in peace. I'm sorry we couldn't come sooner." Ray said his final words. To let him rest in peace. He walked towards his friends.
"The soul orb shard is missing. Hopefully, no one found it in the iron ingot. How is Reina doing?" Ray asked.
"She seems to be shaken a bit but she will be fine." Reid continued. "Found anything about who did it."
"Well, it's obvious that it was a work of a poison type Pokemon. Must have been thieves or bandits. Also, there were two pokemon." Ray concluded.
"How can you be sure?" Reid asked.
"I got scent of two different Pokemon not including the delivery guy. Beside whoever it is I can still sniff them in the forest."
"So, what's the next plan captain Ray" Reid tried to annoy him.
"There is plenty of daylight remaining. We can still try to search them before the trail goes cold."
"So let's get to it." Reina said as she stood up. "I'm fine now".
"Alright then, it's this way" Ray leads them.

They followed the scent for a while. Then suddenly they get ambushed by five Rattata.
"Alright, you brats. Hand over all the goodies you have and we will give you quick death." one of the Rattata said with a cocky attitude.
"Ray we should give them what they want. Sensei told us to avoid unnecessary fights." Reina said to Ray.
"That's stupid Reina they will kill us either way." Reid yelled.
"You are right Reina." Ray said calmly.
"What?" Reid said in total disbelief.
"Sensei told us to avoid unnecessary fights. But he didn't tell us to avoid a necessary fight." Ray smiled smugly.
"So they want to do this hard way. Attack!" One of the Rattata yelled. The five Rattata charged at the trio.
Two Rattata leaped on Ray for Tackel. Ray ducked the first one and used Force Palm on the other's belly.
The other three went for Reid and Reina. Reid stood between Reina and the Rattata. "Don't worry I'll protect you. Just watch my back" Reid said.
"Looks like we have to deal with the wanna-be hero first." One of the Rattata said as two of them went for Hyper Fang. Reid tried to evade but the other two Rattata used hyper fang on his hand. The third Rattata prepares to use hyper fang. Thanks to Reina's Confusion attack the Rattata went flying. She then frees Reid.
As the fight continues. Two Pokemon were watching the whole thing from the tree branch. An Ekans and a Koffing.
"What do we do? let the underling handle it or should we step in." Ekans said.
"We wait for the right moment then you use your Poison sting." The Koffing replied.
"Alrighty then I'll aim for that Riolu first he seems to be leader or brain of group." Ekans said.
"Do what you want but don't miss them." The Koffing said. The two of them continued to watch over them.
Ray uses Quick attack in quick succession and knocks out two Rattata. Reid uses Karate chop and knocks down one Rattata.
"Guess you are all alone. What were you saying about robbing us?" Reid said as he cracked his knuckles menacingly.
"You, you will pay for this once my boss gets here." The last remaining Rattata said.
He turned around to run away only to be blocked by Ray. The Rattata tried to cut away from between them but Reid quickly knocked him out with a Karate Chop.
"Damn, he just went down in one hit. The others at least put up a good fight." Reid scoffed in disappointment.
"Well nice work team." Ray complimented them.
Just then Reid noticed something from corner of his eyes. It was Poison Sting needles flying towards them. He didn't have time to warn others. He pushed Ray and Reina out of the way and got hit by a few Poison sting needles. Ray and Reina's eyes widened. Ray quickly gave Reid some support and rushed for a hiding spot.
"Idiot! I told you to attack all of them." The Koffing scolded Ekans.
"Don't blame me. That Machop dived between". The two continued bickering among themselves.
"Reid are you alright? Here take this Pecha berry." Reina gave him the berry. Ray removed the needles.
"You fool! Never mind did you see which direction it came from? He asked.
"Three o clock." He replied breathing heavily.
"Stay here and don't try to move much." Ray said as he quietly moved towards the attacker's direction.
The two poison Pokemon continued bickering.
"You idiot they will know where we are now let's get out of here." Koffing yelled at him.
"Going somewhere?" A voice said. Both looked behind to see Ray glaring at them. Before they could move. He strikes them with Force Palm. The two fell from the branch.
"How did you know we were here?" Ekans asked.
"My friend told me and I could hear you two bickering." Ray gave them an ice-cold stare. "Now then were you the one who killed the messenger Pidgeotto. If so where is the package?"
"Look you are all alone. Your friend is injured. You think you can take us down." Koffing tried to threaten him.
Ray knew that they were bluffing. So he didn't even flinch. "You think I care?"
"Hey! Owen, I ain't sure we can take this brat." The Ekans gulped.
"Evan, you idiot. You blew our cover." The Koffing yelled at his partner.
Ray chuckled. "I knew that all along. Not the brightest stars are you. You two don't seem to be the type of Pokemon who fight head-on. You're cowards. You just poison your enemy and when they are weakened you take them out. Now then where is the stolen package?"
"Evan run now" Owen yelled as he used Smog. The poison gas spreads and the poison duo runs away. Ray holds his breath and chases after them. He also noticed those Rattata from earlier lying unconscious. He wanted to chase them but he couldn't let anyone else die. Also chasing the enemy could be a trap.
"Damn bastards letting their comrades die". He grabbed one of the Rattata and led him out of smoke. Towards his friends.
Ray throws the Rattata down. Reid and Reina gather around him.
"Did you get them?" Reid asked.
"No, was about to but they got away. I wasn't able to save others." Ray said.
"Who cares lets takeout this guy." Reid got furious.
"Pl... please... help me. The poison is k... ki... killing me." The Rattata cried for help.
"Here take this Pecha berry." Reina handed him a berry.
Reid snatches it from her. "What are you doing. He tried to kill us".
The two started an argument. Ray snatches the berry from Reid and gives it to Rattata. The Rattata eats it.
"What the- why would you do that." Reid yelled.
"He may be able to help us."
"You are being naive."
"We don't have a choice."
"Fine, do what you want." Reid groans. He steps on Rattata's head. "Now tell us everything you know about those two Ekans and Koffing." Reid glared at him. The Rattata looked at Ray for help.
"Look my buddy here is not as nice as me. So, tell us what you know. You owe us that much." Ray said calmly.
"Alright, alright I will tell you everything but first let me sit comfortably." The Rattata said.
"You are asking for too much..." Reid almost tried to hit him but Ray stopped him shaking his head. Reid released his grip on Rattata.
"I am Ken. We are bandits called as Vile bandits." he said.
"Not creative with names are you." Reid rolled his eyes.
"Enough, Reid. Please continue" Ray said.
"We keep moving all over Fepusa nation to avoid getting caught. Those two Ekans and Koffing are our bosses. I and the others are their pawns. We are mostly used as distraction or decoy. While boss uses Poison sting. When they are weakened. We kill them. That's all I can say." He said with little guilt in him.
"That's it. You've got to be kidding me. We want to know where the package is. Where do you keep the stolen item." Reid raised his voice.
"I might be just an underling but I still have some pride. I won't sell out my comrades." Ken got furious.
"But those two almost killed you." Reina said with concern.
"What else am I supposed to do? I at least won't die from starvation. They give us food to eat and live another day. I couldn't get a good job after the war. But my boss took me in." A part of him knew what he did was wrong.
"How about death from beating you to a pulp" Reid was getting more and more frustrated.
"I respect your loyalty. But please just tell us the location of where you keep stolen goods. You owe us that much at least." Reina said
"Honestly I don't know where they keep stolen goods only our boss knows. You can find those two in a cave east from here." Ken said.
"Thank you. I suggest you forsaken this life and start a new life." Ray was hoping he could change him.
"I'll think about it. Also, our main leader is strong you won't be able to beat him even if there are three of you."
"That's our problem."
"I wish you good luck. Also thanks." Ken gave a small smile and ran away.
"That ungrateful piece of crap. I swear if I see him again I'll kill him." Reid got furious.
"Save it for later. We need to find it before evening. I don't want to risk staying in the forest at night " Ray said.
"Alright." Reina and Reid said in unison.

Chapter 3: A Deadly Encounter

Fepusa Nation, Olisberg Forest, 24th March, Year 1468

The trio heads east towards the cave. Staying alert all the time for any enemies or traps.
"What if there are more dangerous pokemon in the cave we are heading to." Reina asked.
"It is possible. If there are too many we go back and let sensei handle this." Ray said.
"What, are you scared?" Reid asked. "These guys are just low life. They ain't that strong or smart. Well, they may be strong but not that strong."
Ray sighed "Look, I'm not scared. I'm just being cautious. We never have been in a real fight unless you count that encounter with Rattata squad. Also, we are low on Pecha berry and there are two poison pokemon on their side"
"Hey look there is a gold mine there." Reina pointed towards it. "Unfortunately, It's abandoned."
"Reina, are you being greedy do you want gold from there?" Reid asked with a silly grin on his face.
Reina rolled her eyes. "I was hoping that there would be someone that could have helped us find that cave."
After a while, they saw a cave. There was no one at the entrance.
"Look there is the cave that Rattata was talking about." Reid pointed.
"How do we know that it's the same one?" Reina asked
"This is the one we are looking for. I can smell those two poison-pokemons they are inside." Ray said while sniffing.
"That nose of yours is very helpful." Reina smiled at him.
"That is the only thing useful of him." Reid said smugly. Reid was expecting a comeback from his comment but Ray pretend to ignore it.
Reina glared at him.
"Aaaarrrggg!" He groaned. "It's not fun if you don't retaliate"
"We don't have time for this. Those two are inside there. I don't think if there is anyone else. No wait, I smell three and this stench is horrible it's burning my nostrils." Ray covered his nose and got down on his knees.
"Now that I think about it something does smell disgusting. I can't imagine how bad it must be for Ray." Reina said in concern.
"What are you two complaining about? Let's go inside." Reid said while he walked towards the entrance.
"Wait!" Reina stopped him. "Ray is not feeling fine. Now, I think there are more than two pokemons in there. We don't want to risk it."
"Then you two stay out here I'll get the package." Reid replied.
"No, wait!" Ray got up covering his nose. "I'll be fine but promise me that if there is more than two pokemon inside we leave."
Reid wasn't sure if he should promise or not. "Fine but only if there is three or more pokemon in there."
The trio headed into the cave being careful as always.

Inside the cave

They weren't that deep and saw light from lit torches. The torches were dim but it was enough to see things around. The stolen items were placed unevenly around. It seems that they placed valuable goods on one side and the worthless items were on another side. Pokes were stacked neatly. At the center, there were two pokemon chilling. It was none other than the Ekans and Koffing the trio encountered. Both of them were lazily talking to each other.
"The Rattata squad hasn't come back yet." Owen said while yawning.
"I wonder whose fault is that."
"What do you mean by that?" Owen asked oblivious to what he did before.
"You used smog while the Rattata squad was nearby did you forget that already." The snake pokemon said as he was getting more and more frustrated with his partner.
"Now I remembered." Owen said slowly before realizing something. "Wait! I had to use that because you didn't do your part well." He yelled.
"It was an accident on my part. The wrong guy got hit." Evan replied.
Owen sighed. "Well, things don't always go as planned. We should get them back before the boss comes back."
"He wouldn't mind if one or two of them died but if every one of them is dead. It will be our turn next." Evan added.
The trio was hiding in a dark corner listening to their conversation.
"As soon as they leave we find the package and leave." Ray whispered. Reid was a little disappointed with that option.
The two poison pokemon left the cave. Once the cave was clear the trio went over the pile of stolen items.
"Let's hurry I think it must be in this pile." Ray said as he started searching through the pile of goods.
Three of them started searching quickly but thoroughly.
"What are you guys doing here?" A voice asked.
They slowly turned around to see two poison pokemon looking at them.
"These three are the ones who defeated the Rattata squad." Owen said as both of them charged towards them.
The snake pokemon used Poison Sting. The three of them dodged it. The trio is now separated. Ray is facing the Ekans while Reid and Reina are facing the Koffin.
Evan continued to unleash a barrage of poison sting. Ray was able to dodge all of them while keeping his nose covered.
"What's the matter Riolu? You don't look well." Evan commented on Ray covering his nose.
Ray ignored his taunts and went for Quick Attack knocking him back.
"It hurts dammit." Evan quickly retaliated with Poison Sting.
Ray dodged again with ease and prepared to use Force Palm. As Ray was close enough to use Force Palm Evan smiled smugly. The snake pokemon used Wrap. He quickly wrapped himself around Ray making him unable to move.
Meanwhile, Reid and Reina were fighting their enemy. Reina saw Ray struggling to escape. She quickly rushed to help him but was stopped by Owen. Owen quickly used Sludge attack which she barely evaded.
"Ray, how did you let yourself get caught like that?" Reid clicked his tongue.
Reina used Psychic but the Koffin moved away. Reid saw his chance and went for a Karate Chop hitting Owen on his head knocking him down. Reina made her way towards Ray.
Evan continued to squeeze Ray. Ray screamed in pain. Ray struggled to escape but to no success. Suddenly Evan started glowing in blue light and he is lifted midair. Ray escapes from Evan and falls. Reina slams the snake down with a Confusion attack.
"Stupid Meditite, you will pay" Evan lunges with a Bite attack.
Reina uses Bide. Her body becomes outlined in white as she endures the opponent's attacks. Then, its whole body glows white and she fires a white beam at Evan from her body. The snake pokemon goes flying across finally hitting the cave wall and goes unconscious.
Reina rushed towards Ray helping him on his feet. "Are you alright?" She asked in concern. "Here, take this Oran berry."
Ray ate the berry. "Thanks, I feel better now. What about Reid?" He asked as he turned towards his friend.
"Stay out of this mutt this one is mine." Reid warned him.
The Koffin unleashed a barrage of Sludge attacks. Reid evaded all the attacks. He rushed towards Owen wanting to close the distance for some close combat. Owen lets out a Smog attack covering his surrounding with poison gas. Reid holds his breath and rushes in for a Karate Chop. His attack lands before Owen could hide in his Smog. Reid knocks him down.
"Aaargh!" Owen screamed in pain. He saw the Machop coming after him to finish him. He panicked and let out another Smog but before he could do it Reid knocked him out of commission.
Reid huffed and puffed. "I wanted to beat up that Ekans myself but this one will do. Nice job Reina." He looked at Ray "You, what is wrong with you?" He asked him in disappointment.
Ray avoided looking at him. He didn't like being unable to help his friend. "I'm sorry I wasn't much of a help." He said while looking away from both of them.
"It doesn't matter, are you fine?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine" Ray replied.
"Guys, this is our chance to find the package and escape." Reina said as she started looking through the stolen goods.
After searching for a while they found it.
"Look this is the one" She held out the iron ingot.
"How do we know this is the one we are looking for?" Reid asked.
Ray grabbed the iron ingot and sniffed it. "Yeah, this is the one we are looking for. It has the messenger Pidgeot's sent all over it. Ray hands it to Reina. She puts it in her bag.
The trio quickly rushed towards the entrance hoping not to encounter more enemies. As they were about to exit Ray smelled something horrible.
"This horrible stench is back and it's stronger than before." Ray covered his nose. "I think someone is here.
Soon their exit was blocked by a huge figure. The three of them looked up to see a Garbodor towering over them.
The Garbodor looked at them thoroughly. "Who are you and why are you here? You don't seem to be mercenaries. Then you must be bounty hunters. Naaah, they don't work in groups." He dismissed that thought. "Anyway, it doesn't matter who you are you know our secret lair and now you must disappear." He then fires multiple globs of dark purple liquid from his pipes for fingers it was a Toxic attack.
The trio quickly evaded backing away.
"So he is the one with the horrible stench" Ray covered his nose with disgust.
"He is blocking our exit. How do we get out?" Reina asked looking for a way out.
"We beat him till he is out of our way." Reid rushed at him to use Low Kick. "The bigger they are the harder they fall.
The Garbodor waited till he was close then used Double Slap sending him flying. He turned his attention toward the remaining two and fires Sludge Bomb on them. Ray was able to evade in time. Unfortunately, Reina wasn't so lucky she was knocked down by a brown ball of sludge. Her bag fell open spilling all the items. The Garbodor saw some berries and the iron ingot.
"All this just for some iron ingot." He chuckled. "I assume it must have some sentimental value or is it possible that there is something inside of it." He said tapping his chin.
Ray's eyes went wide and quickly rushed for the ingot but the Garbodor quickly grabbed it with his long arm.
"You dare steal from me?" The Garbodor's voice rose. "I. Bryant lieutenant of Vile bandit." He announced as he jumped up for a Body Slam.
Ray jumped out of his way and used Force Palm. The Garbodor didn't even move from his attack.
"You call that an attack. I'll show you how to attack" Bryant double slaps him sending Ray flying. While he was distracted Reid comes in and used Karate chop on his head finally doing some damage.
Bryant quickly grabbed him by his long and pulled him towards his mouth. Reid almost puked from the stench.
"That stinks, now I really feel sorry for ray." He looked away in disgust.
"I bet you will like this even more" Bryant said as he shot Sludge Bomb point-blank. Reid was now poisoned from the attack. "Now for a final touch." He said as he raised his free arm towards the Machop ready to shoot Toxic. Suddenly, the Garbodor begins to glow in blue light. Reina used Confusion to interrupt him. Reid saw his chance and escaped. Reina continued to use Confusion to hold the thrash pokemon down. Reid performed a Low Kick tripping him down.
Reid was about to attack with Karate Chop but he took some poison damage. Bryant recovered and used Toxic on Reina she evades the attack in time.
Ray comes in and tosses Pecha berry towards Reid. He then uses Quick Attack knocking him back then Force Palm the Garbodor. Bryant loses his balance. Reid now cured from his poison uses Low Kick knocking him down again.
The Garbodor while on his back blindly fires Sludge Bomb in the direction of the trio. The three of them ran back evading.
"Why do you keep fighting back? Just give up it's easier than fighting. I'll even give you quick death." Bryant made them an offer.
"No, thanks." Reina shakes her head.
Bryant was now disappointed. "Tsk, tsk, I gave you an easy way out. So, death from poison it is then for you"
"We must close the distance if we want to have a chance at winning." Reid said frustrated.
"Agreed!" Ray nodded.
The four pokemon were now breathing heavily. The Garbodor now being the healthiest. Ray and Reina were equally hurt. As for Reid, if he takes another hit that will be the end of him.
"I'll lead from here you two stay back." Ray said determined.
"Hey, don't hog all the glory." Reid smiled smugly.
"Reina, you keep meditating" He said and started to close the distance between him and Bryant.
Bryant let out Toxic again. Ray evades with ease. Ray uses Quick Attack closing the distance. Then he follows it up with Force Palm hurting Bryant. Bryant recovers and grabs Ray. Then he noticed Reina meditating. He was about to throw Ray at her. Reid flanked him and gave another Karate Chop to the head. The Garbodor recoiled in pain but didn't let go of his grip on Ray.
Bryant threw Ray towards Reina and also shot Toxic at them.
"Reina, watch out!" Ray warned.
Reina had her eyes closed while meditating. She opened her eyes to his warning but it was too late. Ray crashed into her. Soon after a glob of dark purple liquid hit them. Both of them were badly poisoned now.
"Sorry, I was supposed to protect you while you were meditating." Ray said as he got to his feet.
"You are poisoned. Where is the Pecha berry?" She looked around frantically.
Ray quickly stuffed her mouth with the last Pecha berry he had.
Reina's eyes went wide with fear as she realized that was the last Pecha berry they had.
"Why didn't you eat it yourself?" She scolded him.
"Didn't you realize why I told you to keep using Meditate?" Ray asked and went to help Reid.
Reid was doing far better than what Ray expected. He was also dealing damage while taking minimum damage himself. The Garbodor was oblivious to the other two. Ray sneaked in and landed a force palm. Reid landed another Karate Chop.
Bryant was getting more and more frustrated with the two. He grabbed Ray with his right arm and Reid with his left arm.
He holds them in front of his face. "That's enough with you two. I have changed my mind. You two die now." He was getting more and more frustrated. He prepared to fire Sludge Bomb.
Ray was in critical condition from poison and the damage he took before. He wasn't moving and his eyes were closed.
Reid noticed Ray was motionless "Hey, hey wake up man. Ray now is not time to be sleeping" He said with a nervous tone.
Reina interrupted Bryant's attack with her Confusion attack. Making Bryant lose his grip on Ray and Reid. Reid escaped and freed Ray from Bryant's clutches then carried him towards a safe spot.
"Ray, wake up." Reid said in concern as he help Ray's motionless body.
"Uuugh!" Ray slowly opened his eyes. "How is Reina?" He asked slowly.
They both looked over to see. Reina was facing Bryant alone.
"Oh no, I need to help her." Reid said. He rushed towards her to help.
"Wait!" Ray yelled to which Reid stopped and turned around.
"She can handle herself." He smiled softly.
Reina covered herself in white light. This was her bide attack. The Garbodor stopped attacking knowing what her plan was.
"I ain't falling for that. If I wasn't beat up already I wouldn't have minded attacking you. For that reason, I'll leave you for last." Bryant chuckled menacingly as he turned his attention to the other two. He shot Sludge Bomb at them.
Reina was quick she dived in between blocking the attack. She took a lot of damage but luckily she wasn't poisoned.
Bryant's eyes went wide in fear as he knew what was about to happen. Reina's body glows white and she fires a white beam at him. The bide attack was strong from raising her attack by meditating and Bryant's own attack.
Bryant screamed loudly as the white light hit him knocking him unconscious. Reina started breathing heavily and left out a sigh.
"It's all over now." She wiped her forehead and sighed again. She rushed back to Ray.
"Ray, are you alright?" She asked in concern.
"Yeah, I will be fine." He said slowly.
Both Reid and Reina were nervous not knowing what to do. If they move him poison will spread even more.
"Step aside." A voice said. They looked around to see none other than Edgar their caretaker. Both of them gasped.
"Sensei, what are you doing here?" Reid asked.
"No time for that. Can you look after Ray he is poisoned and in critical health." Reina pleaded.
"That's why I'm here for." He said as he kneeled beside Ray and fed him Pecha berry. The poison is cured from his body. Edgar then proceeds to use Heal Pulse on him. Ray was now healed enough that he can stand on his own.
"Ray, how are you feeling now?" He asked in worry.
"I'm fine now thank you very much." He replied looking down. Ray was again feeling useless being a burden to the team.
"You three did a good job." Edgar compliments them. He walks over to the Garbodor and grabs the iron ingot. "Who would have known what would have happened if they found out what's inside of this."
"But sensei, what are you doing here?" Reid asked again.
"I followed you all the way from the village" Edgar replied.
"Then why didn't you help us?" Reina questioned.
"Because you didn't needed my help. You were able to defeat these bandits all by yourself."
"Ray, he… he almost died today" Reina cried.
Edgar closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Eudorox is at peace now. However, it is not a safe place at all. The crime rate is now more than that was before the war. You have lived in a safe village all your life. There are nice people in the village the same cannot be said about other places. I can't protect you all the time. Sooner or later I will be gone and when that happens you will have to look out for yourself."
Reid was about to open his mouth to say something but couldn't think anything. Ray was sulking by himself.
"I understand what you are saying." Reina replied.
"Let's go back home. The Forest guards will take care of them." Edgar said as he walked towards the exit. The others followed behind him.
AN: I wasn't sure if I was going to update this story. I was very busy for a year. I know not many people will read this and if you are reading this then thank you. I'm not a good writer but I keep trying. I'm not sure if I can update this story regularly but I will try when I get free time. Also, one last thing I have made a few changes in the last two chapters nothing major.

Chapter 4: Treasure Hunt

Olisberg Village, Fepusa nation, 25th March Year 1468
The next day Edgar and his students were gathered in the hall. Edgar slow opened the iron ingot which he cut halfway through before. He holds the shard in his paw and showed it to the three of them. It was blue in colour little transparent but not enough to see through it. The three of them were astonished to say anything.“Whoa! This thing is so beautiful.” Reina said excitedly.“Right, This… beautiful thing has caused nothing but suffering for four years. Just for this tiny orb people killed each other.” Ray said then his expression changed to gloomy. “I wished this orb never existed. The world would be peaceful.” He then chuckled. “Maybe I am being too optimistic.”Reid comes closer to Ray and puts his arm on his friend’s shoulder. “Come on, there is nothing wrong with being optimistic.” Then he turns his attention to Edgar. “I wanted to ask you? Did you see the whole orb when you fought in the war?”“I did.” He replied in a monotone voice. “I even held it in mine. I wanted to use it for myself but then I… never mind I’ll tell you another time.” He stopped midway.“Then what, what did you do?” Reid asked.“Heyyy!”Their conversation was interrupted by long greetings. They turned around to see a Sneasel standing at the entrance. Edgar rolled his eyes.The Sneasel walked towards the group enthusiastically. “Edgar, my friend. How are you? It’s good to see you again after so long. Well, in person that is. I write you letters all time but you don’t write back to me.”“How rude, you can’t just waltz in here like you own this place” Reid scoffed annoyed by the loudmouth weasel.“Oh, I am sorry where are my manners” He apologized sincerely. “My name is Adrian and I am Edgar’s old friend. Well, childhood friend to be exact.”“No way I refuse to believe you two are friends.” Ray said in disbelief.“What’s this Eddie, you didn’t tell them about your friend?” Adrian asked.“Eddie?” Reina tried to stifle a giggle.Edgar gritted his teeth. “How many times do I have to tell you not to call me that name? I never told them about you because I thought it was unnecessary.” He then sighed. “Never mind that, but what are you doing here? What brings you here?”“Ahhh! Don’t be like that. You won’t welcome your friend here.” He walks over to Edgar and took the soul shard from him. “I just came here to see it this made it here safely. Never thought I would see this or even touch it with my own hands.” He then gives the shard back to him. “I don’t think it will be safe in Olisberg city.”“Even now this shard cost someone their life.” Edgar said in a sad tone.“What do you mean by that?” Adrian asked. Edgar explained all the events from the last day.“It’s unfortunate what happened to that Pidgeott” Adrian sighed. “Anyway, you three didan amazing job. I mean taking down a lieutenant is not anyone can do. You saved this shard from getting into the wrong hands.” He then looked at the three of them. “I have an idea. Why don’t you become a treasure hunter? It’s more fun going to different places. It’s like an adventure.” He then turned his attention to Edgar. “So, will you allow them? I can show them the ropes. I’m sure they will become great treasure hunters.” He eagerly waited for Edgar’s response.Edgar remained in silence for a few seconds. “Fine, I am alright with your suggestion. However, it’s thier decision. If they don’t, then they are out.”“Of course, it’s not like I am going to kidnap them if they refuse.” Adrian laughed loudly. Edgar shakes his head from that terrible joke.“I am interested in this. So, count me in” Reina said enthusiastically.“Count me in too. It would be fun to go to different places.” Reid saidEveryone waited for Ray’s reply.“Fine, I’ll tag along” He sighed. I don’t want to be a treasure hunter but it doesn’t hurt to try something new once in a while.”“Very well, I’ll take you as a trainee. You don’t have to make official documents for that” Adrian said.“Just where are you taking them?” Edgar asked.“To Olisberg city. From there we will go to a mystery dungeon.“Mystery dungeon? They aren’t ready for that.” Edgar warned.“Relax, if they can handle the Vile bandits then this one will be breeze.” Adrian assured. “I’ll come again in five days and I’ll take you with me. Be ready because it’s going to be fun. 
Olisberg City South Gate Olisberg City, Fepusa Nation, 30th March Year 1468
Olisberg city is the second biggest city and also the second most populated city in Fepusa Nation. Olisberg city is surrounded by Olisberg forest on north, east and south. On the west side is the sea. This city is divided into three districts. Paiwlot is the northern district where high-class people like nobles, government officials, politicians and rich folks live. Slicton is the middle district and it is the biggest district in Olisberg city. Slicton is for middle-class people. Dalmool is in the southeast part of the city. This district is mostly inhabited by the poor and immigrants. Most of these immigrants are illegal.“Here we are Olisberg city.” Adrian said loudly. “Beautiful isn’t she?” He asked.“Yeah, It’s beautiful.” Reina agreed.“But is it same from the inside? You know what I mean by that” Reid asked.“You are right, it’s ugly from inside but Slicton is safer than the other two districts.” Adrian replied.The four of them walked towards the entrance of Slicton district. Ray was mesmerized by the view inside the district. He then accidentally bumped into a Breloom who was standing in the middle of the path.“Hey, don’t stand there in the middle of the road.” Ray scowled at the Breloom.The Breloom defensively raised his hand. “My apologies.” He said sincerely. For Ray, it was difficult to tell if it was sincere or not.Ray then walked towards his group but stopped and turned around. “No, I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.”The Breloom chuckled nervously. “It’s fine, accidents like that happen.”“Well, have a good day” Ray replied and turned to walk towards his group.Reid tapped his foot impatiently waiting for Ray to catch up with their group. “Stop lollygagging!” He yelled.“It’s a little too early for lunch so why don’t we go sightseeing. Then we’ll go for lunch.” Adrian said. “Oh, I remembered that I had an important task to do at the Treasure hunter’s office. It’s just around a corner there. You can come with me if you want or you could just stay here.”“How much time will it take?” Ray asked.“My friend is here!” someone yelled loudly. The four of them turned towards the direction from which the voice came. A Vigoroth was screaming nonsense. A Breloom tried to calm him down but to no success.“Shut up!” A Buizel yelled at them. He was annoyed by them.“Screw you! My friend is here! He’s going to rule the world!” The Vigoroth yelled back.“Yeah, yeah, whatever we’ll see that when he becomes emperor.” The Buizel scoffed.The Breloom calms his friend down and then they go their way.Reina sighs. “Oh dear, that must be embarrassing. I pity that Breloom”“Back to the topic, it will take me about fifteen minutes.” He replied.“Then I’m not coming with you.” Ray replied.“Same here.” Reid said. Reina nodded with agreement.“Okay, I’ll be back just don’t go too far from here.” Adrian warned them.As soon as Adrian was out of their eyesight. Ray walked away from the group.“Where are you going?” Reina asked.“To take a walk. Don’t work I won’t go too far” He assured them.Ray then wandered towards a road leading towards the east. There a bulletin board caught his attention. He walked closer to the boards and found out that it was a wanted board. Wanted posters were pinned on it of various pokemons. It also stated their crimes, danger level and reward. He examined a few of them and a poster of a Shiftry caught his attention. The Shiftry was wanted dead for the crime of murder and robbery. The danger level was SS rank and the reward was eighteen thousand pokes.Another poster was about an Electravire. The Electravire was wanted for murder and arson. The danger level was SSS rank and the reward was twenty thousand pokes.Looking through some other he found a poster of someone familiar. A poster of a Garbodor, It was none other than Bryant the Garbodor he fought in Olisberg forest. The Garbodor was wanted for robbery. The danger level was B rank and the reward was five thousand pokes.“Hmm, we could have got those pokes” He muttered to himself.A Sceptile came up to the board and was looking through. He then looked at a poster and gritted his teeth.“Hey, are you a bounty hunter?” Ray asked. The Sceptile ignored him and walked away.“How rude, a simple yes or now would be fine” He groaned.An Ampharos with a shoulder bag comes up to the board. He removes some posters from the board.He removes the poster of Bryant the Garbodor from the board and puts it in his bag. “Shame, a registered bounty hunter didn’t catch him. Five thousand pokes just got wasted.” He muttered.“That Garbodor was caught six days ago” Ray pointed out.“Yeah, so what? These things take time to process. If you think I’m slacking off on the job then you are wrong.” The Ampharos replied.“Do you know what happened to this Garbodor? I mean who took him down?” Ray asked.“I don’t know what goes on inside of the office. I heard that the mon who caught him asked to remain anonymous.” The electric type replied.“Can you tell me about this bounty hunter job?” Ray asked.The Ampharos sighed. “You first need to register in the office and get your badge. Then you can go after these scums. How you do it it’s all up to you. You bring them dead or alive to that other building there. They’ll examine the dead body in case you didn’t bring someone else of the same species. After the process is done you get paid the said amount. If you don’t have the official badge then you won’t get anything. The ranks start from D, C, B, A, S, SS and SSS being the highest. If you have any more questions ask in that building.” He pointed at the building of bounty hunter’s registration. “Goodbye.” He said and went his way.“B rank not bad I guess.” Ray went back to his group. He saw that Adrian still didn’t come back. The trio waited in silence.Adrian comes back jogging. “Hey guys, sorry I’m a little late. So who is up for lunch?”
Adrian’s Apartment, Slicton District,  Olisberg City, Fepusa nation, 30 March Year 1468

Adrian’s house was small. It had on big room and a small kitchen for cooking. His room was messy like it’s not been cleaned for a few days. The kitchen was messier.
“Welcome to my little home. Make yourselves comfortable. I know it’s not as big as Edgar’s house but I have my own place to call home.”“No offense but I thought you would have a bigger house” Reid said.“Ouch! None taken but I am saving to buy a big house.” Adrian replied. “You all should get some sleep. We are leaving early in the morning.”White Woods Entrance, Olisberg Forest, Fepusa Nation, 31st March Year 1468Adrian stopped the group. “Before we head in I want you to follow some rule. First, you must stay behind me at all cost. Don’t engage an enemy if don’t tell you. Do you agree or not?”“Before we go in I want to know what kind of trouble is up ahead.” Ray asked.“There will defiantly be hostile mons and some traps. Don’t worry I know how to deal with this stuff.” The ice type replied.

“So what kind of treasure are we looking up for?” Reina asked.“I don’t know. I just hope we find something valuable. Like antique coins or some jewels.” The Sneaseal replied.“Have you been here before?” Reid asked.“If I did there wouldn’t be a treasure anymore”The Machop looked away realizing how dumb that question was.“Through your career what kind of treasure did you find so far?” Ray asked.“Now that’s a good question. On my first hunt I found an antique ring. There was something written on it ina n ancient language that we don’t know of. I got fifty thousand for that one.”The three of them gasped.“Oh here is another good one. This one time I thought I found a tooth of Kyogre but after examining it was just a piece of marble” He laughed at himself. The others weren’t amused by that.

“So what’s your story? How did you become a treasure hunter? How did you become friends with our mentor?” Reina asked.“Oh dear, I was afraid you would ask these questions but I am willing to answer your questions. What if I told you that I am actually from a noble family?” He asked.“I would say that you are making stuff up.” Ray replied.“My full name is Adrian Nightford. I was raised with a silver spoon. I easily got what I wanted. There were maids and butlers to fetch me anything I want. Even though I had everything I still felt like I didn’t have everything. One day I met a Riolu and he was very happy despite being poor. He was always smiling and very energetic. He had a dream to become a soldier. He wanted to follow his father’s foot. Soon we became good friends.”He suddenly stopped walking and turned around to face them. He had a sad look on his face. “Then I discovered something horrible. My father’s wealth came from illegal sources. His spice business was just a facade for something else. I then ran away from my house. When I told this to my friend he said that I should follow my own path. In my mansion, there were lots of antiques. I always like knowing about where they came from. So then I decided to become a treasure hunter.”“I don’t know how much of your story is true but I’ll believe it.” Reid replied.“Enough of these sob stories. Come one let’s continue”

Two Cacnea noticed four of them they fired Poison Sting. Adrian quickly reacted by using Ice Beam as a protective wall.“That’s an interesting way of using ice beam” Reina thought to herself.“You three stay back. I’ll deal with them.”The dark type jumped from the ice wall and slashed one of the Cacnea. The healthy Cacnea attacks with Needle Arm. Adrian dodges his attack and freezes him with Ice Beam. The injured Cacnea fires Poison Sting. Adrian evades them and uses Feint attack to knock the Cacnea out. The other Cacnea breaks out from being frozen. Before the Cacnea could do anything Adrian knocks him out using Metal Claw.“Impressive!” Reid was amused by the Sneasel’s skills.“Come on let’s go before more of them shows up.” Adrian replied.

On this floor, there is open ground with a big circular stone floor. A stone statue was in the center but it was chopped horizontally. It was a statue of Suicune. The upper part of the statue was lying upside down nearby. Besides the statue, there was a stone slab with something written on it.Ray inspected the stone slab. “I can be seen from all the sides, yet I am hiding behind someone. Where am I?”Reid inspected the half statue and saw a hole. The same hole was on the other part of the statue. “Something was inside this statue but what was it? Just what happened here?”“I think there was a battle between two pokemon.” Reina suggested.Adrian examined the floor. “No, other than this statue nothing has been damaged. The statue has been cut clean like someone used guillotine.”Ray sniffed around the statue. “I can barely smell it but there were two different Pokemons here.”“Can I ask you something? Did you take something from here?” A feminine voice asked from the entrance. The four of them looked around and saw a Female Gardevoir.“What do you mean?” Adrian asked.The Gardevoir sighed. “Let me rephrase. Did you take something from here?”“No we just came here now” Adrain replied. He subtly motioned his hands signaling the three to get behind him.The Gardevoir started slowly walking in a circle around Adrian. “Then I would like to check your bag.”“Ok, you are asking for too much now.” Ray replied to the Gardevoir’s demand.“I’ll ask again. Can I check your bag, please?” The Gardevoir pleaded.Reina got behind Adrian. “What if you are a thief and then run away taking my bag.”The Gardevoir chuckled. “Excuse me but do I look like a thief to you?”“I didn’t know that thieves are so polite these days” Reid laughed.The Gardevoir was angered by Reid’s joke. She jumped towards Reina’s bag.“Watch out Reina.” Ray quickly pushed The Gardevoir away from Reina midair.“Nice save, Riolu” She complimented Ray for his quick thinking. She then used Psychic to lift him in the air. As soon as she was going to slam Ray down. Adrian’s Ice bean froze her. Ray recovered from the fall and quickly took a few steps back. The four of them kept their eyes on the Gardevoir. The Gardevoir broke free from the ice. Her body was shivering. “That was cold of you”.Reid sneaked in and tried to attack with Low Sweep. The Gardevoir jumped and used double team. Her clones were shuffling to make confusion. They then started moving towards Adrian and Reina. Adrian was standing ahead of Reina. He was carefully watching the clones to find out real one. When the Gardevoir was close enough. He ignored the closest Gardevoir and attacked the second last one using Feint attack. The Gardevoir flinched in pain.“How did you know” She asked.“If you want to get to them you will have to go through me. Also, you are still shivering.” Adrian pointed out.While she was distracted Adrian froze her leg immobilizing her. Ray and Reid used Force Palm and Karate Chop respectively sending the Psychic type flying away.The Gardevoir slowly got up. “It seems that I underestimated you. However, it’s about time I let myself loose.”Ray and Reid rushed again to attack.Adrian realized that something was wrong. “Wait you two don’t rush in.” He shouted.The two of them crashed into an invisible wall. It was a Light Screen move. The Gardevoir lifted the two of them with Psychic and send them flying into the broken statue.“She lifted two mons with psychic” Reina was impressed.“Now is not a time for complements” Adrian fired Ice Beam at the Gardevoir. She easily blocked it using Light screen. The Psychic type fired Psyshock. The ice type quickly reacted by forming an ice wall. The psyshock was too strong to stop. The ice wall broke sending ice shards flying everywhere.“Unfortunately, I don’t have anything in my arsenal to fight to directly.” She then looked at the remains of the ice wall. She lifted an ice block with her psychic power and hurled it at the dark type sending him flying. She turned her attention to the Meditite. Reina jumped to fake a high jump kick. “Pathetic.” The Gardevoir scoffed and used a light screen for defense. Reina quickly switched to Brick Break shattering the barrier.“Take this!” Reina landed her Brick Break attack on the Gardevoir’s shoulder. Knocking some wind out of her lung.The Gardevoir recoiled in pain. “Impressive!” She said while breathing heavily. She glared at the Meditite with an ice-cold glare. The Meditite was immobilized by her stare for a brief moment. Her glare sent a chill down her spine. The Garedevoir took her chance and lifted Reina upside down dropping her bag and spilling the items. She looked at a few oran berries laying down. She looked through the bag for a few seconds until she was satisfied. She dropped Reina gently.The Gardevoir let out a long sigh. “Not what I was looking from. All this trouble for nothing. You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble if you just let me check your bag.” She looked at some berries on the ground and then picked a handful of them. “I’ll be taking some of these for the trouble you have caused me.” She then walked away towards the exit.Adrian looked at the three of them in concern. “Are you folks alright?”“I am fine she didn’t hurt me.” Reina said as she gathered all the berries.Reid walked limping. “I am fine, just got my leg bruised up. Some berries will fix me up.”Ray came by clutching his left shoulder in fury. “You are not hiding something from us are you?”Adrian hesitated. “I, I will explain to you everything but first let’s leave this place. We will go to Edgar’s house. We will go by Rapidash cart”
Edgar’s Villa, Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 31st March Year 1468
Adrian explained all the events at the mystery dungeon. Edgar was angry at Adrian for putting his students at risk.“You did what?” Edgar yelled at him. “First you put these kids in danger. Second, you are going after soul shards. Third, you kept me in dark.”“Listen to me-”“No, you listen to me. I don’t want anyone close to me getting involved with soul shard and that also includes you”Adrian tried to calm down his friend. “Listen, I am not going around collecting these. I found the first one purely by coincidence. I only wanted to sell the second one. I was going to share the money with you.”The word money made Edgar even angrier. “Money is not the issue here. You know that I don’t care about money. You put my kids in danger for your greed and that’s unacceptable. Look, just leave now. I don’t want to talk to you.”Adrian sighs. “I’m sorry, I didn’t think that the topic about soul shard would still be sensitive to you. I’ll be leaving now but first I want to hear their experience on this treasure hunt.” He looked at the three of them for answers.“Like I said before I wasn’t interested in treasure hunting in the first place.” Ray said.Reina was hesitant. “I thought it would be a fun experience but if it means being in danger then I’m out.”Reid looked at the two of them as if hoping their response would be different than what he expected. “Yeah, I’m also out.”Adrian stood up. “I understand I’ll be leaving now. If you need any help you know where I am. Chapter 5: A Request From Ernest

In the year 1448, a Celebi shattered the soul orb and scattered the shards across the continent of Eudrox. Each nation ceased the war. After the war, the three nations came to an agreement and made an alliance. Each nation chooses one pokemon to represent and lead its nation. From Fepusa Ernest a Leafeon was chosen.

Edgar's Villa, Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 3

 April Year 1468

Today was just like any other day. Edgar was meditating in the hall. His students were practicing their moves. A visitor enters Edgar's villa. A Bunnelby with a shoulder bag walks in but no one pays attention to him. He opens his mouth to speak but gets interrupted by Edgar.
"What is it, Bunnelby?" Edgar asked.
The Bunnelby gets spooked by the sudden voice. "Um, uhh, ahh." The Bunnelby was nervous about speaking.
"Speak up."
"I'm here on behalf of Sir Ernest. He has a message for you." The rabbit pokemon removes a scrolled letter from his bag and hands it over to Edgar.
Edgar reads it and gives the letter back to Bunnelby. "Tell him that I'm not interested."
"But I can't go empty-handed." The Bunnelby begged.
"Fine then, tell him that I will not come to the capital and I no longer want to do anything with him. Also, don't send any more of your mons for strange requests. You can leave now."
The poor messenger accepts his defeat and leaves the villa.
"What was that all about?" Reid asked.
"A letter from Ernest." Edgar replied.
"Ernest? I've heard that name somewhere but it doesn't ring any bell." Ray said to himself.
"Ernest is the representative of the Fepusa nation." Reina reminded him.
"Yeah, I guess so I'm not much interested in politics anyway." Ray replied.
Edgar cleared his throat. "In the letter, Ernest said that he wanted me to come to the capital. Don't know what he wanted though."
"So, why did you refuse to go?" Ray asked.
"I don't want anything to do with the capital, the politics, and the alliance. I just want to live peacefully in this small town." Edgar replied. "Now if you will excuse me I'm going out to clear my mind." He then walks out of the villa.
The trio looked at each other. They were concerned for their caretaker. Reina went after him but Ray stopped her.

Edgar's Villa, Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 5

 April Year 1468

After few a days, Edgar had visitors again. This time there was a Leafeon and a Golduck. That Leafeon was none other than Ernest.
"Edgar, it's been a while since I saw you." The Leafeon said.
"Last time I saw you were just a child who couldn't leave his father's side." Edgar scoffed. "Since, you took a risk of coming alone only with one bodyguard. Might as well tell me why you came here?"
"No small talk? Fine then." The Leafeon sighed. "Since, you refused to come to me. I decided to come to you. I came here to talk about-" He looks at the trio and clears his throat. "If you don't mind, can the kids please leave. I need to talk with Edgar alone."
"Wait!" Edgar stopped the three from leaving. "If you want to talk to me alone then tell your bodyguard to wait outside."
The Golduck got furious. "Are you out of your mind?"
"Easy there Keith it's alright." Ernest tried to calm him down. "If you trust these kids to keep a secret then so do I. Wait! Is that Riolu-"
"Get back to the topic" Edgar interrupted him.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I came here to ask you to do me a favor. We found a location of a soul shard-"
"That's enough! I'm not interested in that anymore."
"Just listen to me." The Leafeon plead.
"No, you listen to me. I don't want anything to do with soul orb. I've moved past it. If that's what you came for then you can leave now." Edgar pointed them towards the exit.
"That soul orb shard is going to end up in the wrong hands. I can't trust anyone else to do the job. The ones I assigned are either dead or lost. So, please you are my last hope. I know that you have moved on from your past life but this is a very serious matter for me. If you accept this, come to the capital in three days. This is my request." The Leafeon stood up. "Come on, we are leaving."
Ernest and his bodyguard prepared to leave. "Before I go you will need this." Ernest hands him a document.
"What's this for?" Edgar asked.
"It's a permit. You'll need it to enter the capital. It's signed by me. No one will quest about its legitimacy. I have also mentioned about your uh… students." He turns around and head for the exit. The two of them left the villa.
"You're really going to go?" Rays asked.
"I'm… I'm not really sure." Edgar replied.

Alranley City, Fepusa Nation, 9th April Year 1468

Alranley city is the capital of Fepusa Nation. It is the biggest and most populated city. On the north lies boundary between Fepusa and Dalonton. On the west to south there is Olisberg Forest. From south to east is Alranley forest. Alranley city is well protected city. There are guards well placed around the city. To enter this city one needs a legal permit proving your identity.
"I knew you would come." Ernest said.
"This is just one-time favor. Whatever makes you stay away from me." Edgar said.
"Sure" Ernest replied with a lazy tone. He motions everyone but his bodyguard to leave the room. "The soul shard is in Grim archipelago."
"What?" Edgar was shocked at the mention of the Grim archipelago. "Are you kidding me?"
"No, I'm serious." Ernest said with a deadpan face.
"Wait! Wait! Wait! What's Grim archipelago?" Ray asked.
"It's an island from east of Eudrox. Not many people know about this as many maps don't mention this. It's also called an island without law. It's the most dangerous place in the whole Eudrox. There are no laws and there is no one to stop criminals. Each person is out for themselves." Edgar answered.
"Why weren't we told about this?" Ray asked.
"Settle down kid. There are millions of people out there who don't know. Even if someone knows they won't talk about it. People want to forget that the island existed." Ernest explained further. "That place is full of barbaric and uncivilized pokemon."
"Not all of them." Edgar added.
"Yeah!" Ernest sighed. "One of my scouts is still there. I have already planned your transport facility. I thought you would come alone but I can make accommodation for these kids here."
"We are going with our Sensei," Reid announced.
"No, you're not. If it was any other place I would have let you come with me." Edgar replied.
"He's right. We should stay here we would only slow him down." Reina said.
"Thank you, Reina. You were always the wise one." Edgar patted her head. "You kids better behave yourself and don't cause any trouble, okay"
"Tell me when you're going to depart?" Ernest asked.
"Right now, I want to be done with this as soon as possible." Edgar replied.
"Right, follow me. And Keith tell Rose to make accommodation for our guests."
"Yes, Sir." Keith replied with a poker face.

Sandy Island Outpost, Grim Archipelago, 10th April Year 1468

Sandy Island was one of the few unhabituated islands in Grim Archipelago. Years ago Fepusa nation took the opportunity to turn it into an outpost. The real reason to set up an outpost was to monitor any activity on these islands that could be a threat to the nation.
Edgar rode a mega Pidgeot for his journey here. The bird pokemon landed safely on the island.
"Thanks for the ride." Edgar said. "Where can I find Captain Brandon?"
"It's that second shack over there he should be there." The Pidgeot pointed. "If you need a ride I will be here."
Edgar turned around to take a good look at the outpost. It was well barricaded with a wooden spike on the walls. At the center, there was a watch tower and a guard was keeping eye on things. Many small shacks and tents were built for sleeping quarters. He entered the shack which he was told.
Inside the shack, it was dimly lighted. A Wartortle was eating food.
Edgar approached him. "You must be Captain Brandon right?"
The Wartortle continued eating. "Depends on who's asking?" He stops eating and stands up. "No, I was just kidding." He laughs loudly. "I was expecting you. I wanted to meet you one day but never thought you would be the one coming to me."
"I'm sorry but do I know you?" Edgar asked as he was confused by why a random soldier would want to meet him.
"Of course you don't. My brother was in your unit. The seventh company was led by Captain Edgar. It's an honor to meet you, Sir." He moves his hand forward for a handshake.
Edgar accepts it. "Drop the honorifics. I'm just a civilian now."
"I respect that. What brings you here? When I got the letter saying that you would be here I was shocked. What's a veteran like you doing here in this hellhole?"
"Trust me you do not want to know that. What I can tell you is that it's a confidential job for Ernest."
Brandon nods. "I won't pry. So, how can I help you?"
"I was supposed to meet a scout named Cody."
"Ahh, it's a problem then. He supposed to return here yesterday but he hasn't come back yet."
"Where is he then he?" Edgar asked.
"He went to Wynmer Island north from here. I have a feeling that something bad must have happened to him. I have assembled a search squad they will be leaving in a few minutes."
"Call them off. I'll find him myself."
"But-"
"No buts, I have a better chance of finding him quicker than you do. No offense though."
"None taken."
"Can I get something that belongs to Cody?" Edgar requested.
"Wait here." He goes into sleeping quarters and brings a cloth with him. "Here, will this do?"
Edgar takes the cloth and sniffs it and hands it back to him. "Thanks, I'll be back." Edgar leaves the shack. He then approaches the Pidgeot.
"I need a lift." Edgar requested.
"Where to?" He asked.
"To Wynmer Island."

Wynmer Island, Grim Archipelago, 10th April Year 1468

The Pidgeot dropped Edgar by the shore of the island. He sniffs the air and heads in the direction of the scent.
"I smell blood. This is bad I might be too late."
He comes across a hut guarded by two Mightyena. He then hides in the bushes.
"Two, Three...no, Definitely five. The other three must be inside."
Edgar pops out from hiding. The two Mightyena noticed him and charged at him. Edgar quickly knocked them out using a double Aura Sphere.
A Lombre and a Frillish come out of the hut followed by a Heliolisk.
"What's going on here? Who are you? Kill him, boys." The Heliolisk ordered.
The Lombre and the Frillish fired Bubble Beam and Water Pulse respectively. Edgar dodged the water pulse and used Bone Rush to block the bubble beam. He then rushed in and used Force Palm on Frillish sending him flying. Edgar turned his attention to Lombre to use force palm but was zapped by Heliolisk's discharge. The Lombre used the opportunity to use Fury Swipe.
"Coward!" Edgar scoffed. He grabbed the Lombre's hand before he could do another swipe. Then he uses Force Palm to send him flying.
The Heliolisk was frustrated. "Just you and me though guy." He taunted. He uses another Discharged attack.
This time Edgar was prepared. He evades the discharge and uses Bone Rush. After multiple successful hit from the bone rush, the Heliolisk get knocked out cold.
Edgar enters the hut where he finds a Combusken badly injured. His Captivators were ruthless to him. Cuts and bruises were all over his body. He was bleeding were badly and unconscious.
"He needs medical attention quickly. The least I can do is heal him a little."
Edgar uses Heal Pulse on him but he is still in bad shape. The Combusken coughs and wakes up.
"Don't move you're badly injured." Edgar said.
"Who are you? You saved me." The Combusken said in a faint voice.
"I'm Edgar. You must be Cody?" Edgar asked.
"Yes, I was supposed to meet you today. I didn't think it would be in this condition."
"Calm down, I'll get you out of here." Edgar carries him and walks towards the shore he came from.
"Who were those pokemon? Why did they do this to you?" Edgar asked.
"They were bandits, Vile bandits" Cody replied.
"Vile bandits? Here?"
"They have a soul shard in their possession. I was snooping around then they caught me. Then this happened."
"Do you know where the shard might be?" Edgar asked.
"They have their hideout from northeast of that hut. It's dangerous it's well protected almost like a fortress." Cody warned him.
"Thank you for the info. I can manage them on my own. You should just rest for now." Edgar assured him.
On the shore, Edgar met up with the bird pokemon again.
"What happened to him?" The bird pokemon asked in concern.
"No time to explain, just take him to the outpost."
"Yes sir, and when are you going to come back for pickup?" He asked.
Edgar turned around and headed towards the bandit hideout. "It's going to be a long day."

Edgar walked towards the bandit hideout. He had this feeling for a while. A feeling that someone is following him. He turned his direction towards the stalkers. "I know you are there you can come out now."
A Shiftry comes out from hiding. "Alright, alright you got me. I mean no harm."
"That I can tell. You were watching me since I came near that bandit hut."
"I can explain. The truth is I am a treasure hunter. Those bandits took something valuable from me."
"I want to see your badge?" Edgar asked.
"Unfortunately, they took it. I'm sorry but I overheard that you were after those bandits"
"More like eavesdropping" Edgar corrected him.
The Shiftry shrugged. "Look I want something from the bandits, you want something from the bandits, and together we can do this easily. Interested?"
Edgar was skeptical about his proposal but with someone by his side, things would get a lot easy. "First I need your name."
"The name is Kane."
"Edgar."
"So, what do you know about these bandits?" Edgar asked.
"The Vile bandits operate from one of these islands. I don't know where their headquarters is. But one of their hideouts is on this island. Harlbert a Magmar is the leader of the base. He commands around thirty bandits. Don't worry some of them should be away from base looting and stealing from whoever they see. Not to mention you took down five of them already." Kane added.
"Magmar? That puts both of us at disadvantage. What moves do you know?" Edgar asked.
"Leaf blade, leaf storm, rock smash, and furry swipes. What about you?" Kane asked
"Aura sphere, bone rush. Heal pulse and meditate." Edgar replied.
After thirty minutes they found the vile bandit hideout. Both of them took cover and scouted enemies.
"I see ten of them there is probably more inside the hideout." Kane guessed.
"There are sixteen of them outside. Probably five more inside the hideout." Edgar corrected. "They call this hideout?" Edgar asked.
"If we rush out without plan it won't end well for us. I say we divide and conquer. I'll go to the opposite side and bait some of them away from you."
Edgar nodded. "Sounds like a plan."
Kane sneaked around the opposite side from where Edgar. He removed a leaf from a tree and whistled.
"What was that?" One of the Scyther turned in the direction of the whistle. "Looks like we have an intruder." He took three other guards with him.
The Scyther and his friends were unprepared. Kane used the element of surprise and took them out. A Darmanitan bandit noticed something was odd. He also took three others with him to investigate. Now there were only eight more of them. Once the Darmanitan was far away. Edgar took the chance.
Edgar rushed in and quickly took out two unsuspecting bandits. The remaining six were alerted. But they were too slow to react. Edgar knocked out two more using Bone Rush.
"Stop him, boys." A Sandslash yelled. A Venomoth and a Watchhog charged at the aura pokemon. The Watchhog went for Super Fang but Edgar answered it with Force Palm on his face. The Force Palm knocked out the Watchhog while also breaking some of his teeth. The Venomoth fired Psybeam. Edgar evades and hits him with a Bone Rush five times.
A Graveler charges in with a Rollout. Edgar evades it.
"Ha, fool you have fallen into my trap." The Sandslash uses Sand Tomb to trap distracted Edgar.
Edgar's legs were stuck in the sands. The Graveler charges again with a Rollout stronger than before. Edgar uses Aura Sphere on the Graveler before he could get crushed. The Graveler goes unconscious.
"Damn, you really are scary. It doesn't matter I'll just watch you get buried in the sands." The Sandslash laughs maniacally. Then he suddenly goes cold and hits the ground. The Sandslash was stabbed by multiple razor-sharp leaves killing him instantly.
Kane looks down on trapped Edgar. "Need a hand?"
Edgar got furious. He escapes the trap by himself. "Why did you kill him?"
"Relax no need to get all angry over some low life. No one will probably miss him."
"You do realize that you just killed someone. It doesn't matter who he was."
"I am well aware of that. This is a land of no laws. Nobody cares what happens to anyone. As we are speaking there are other pokemon who are getting killed or worse."
"Our partnership is over. I no longer need your help."
"You do realize that I just saved your life." Kane said.
"I had it under control."
"I had it under control." Kane said in a mocking tone. "Says the man who was going to be buried in the sands. Look, let's finish this and then we go our separate way."
"Under one condition that you don't kill anyone."
"Fine I won't."
"At least sound a bit convincing."
The duo enters the hideout and quickly defeats four bodyguards. Now the only one remaining was Halbert the Magmar.
"How dare you come into my hideout and make a mockery of me." The Magmar was furious. He fires a Flamethrower at the duo. They both move out of the way. Kane uses Rock smash on the Magmar but he evades and uses Fire punch in return. Edgar uses Aura Sphere but the spitfire pokemon evades. Edgar quickly switches to Bone Rush and lands some hits.
The fire pokemon falls but quickly gets up. "You are good. Even better than that tree guy. Come fight me." He taunts. He uses Fire Punch but Edgar Blocks with his bone staff. Kane sneaks up and uses a Faint attack. Harlbert loses his balance. Edgar then uses his Aura Sphere point-blank sending him crashing on his chair.
Kane steps on the fire type. "Where is the soul shard?"
"Go to hell. I'll never tell." Harlbert refused to say it.
Kane uses Rock Smash on his leg. Harlbert screams in pain. "How many bones do I have to break to get that answer?"
"I surrender. Please spare me. It's in the box over there."
"See that wasn't so hard."
Edgar looks into the box to find out the shard. "He is telling the truth. What about the thing you want."
Kane uses Leaf Blade slashing Harlbert killing him instantly. "The thing I was after was this soul shard. Now I do not need to hide my true self. Hand over the shard and I will let you go. You know I have taken a liking to you."
"I knew you were up to no good."
"I should have left you in the trap. But I wasn't sure what was up ahead. So, I needed you. But now I will have to kill you. Maybe this turned out to be a good thing. You see we keep a list of pokemon who needs to be eliminated or those who could possess a threat to us. Those three leaders their bodyguards, nobles, politician military generals and you are on that list. Now I get to do two jobs at once."
"Enough talk." Edgar fires Aura Sphere. Kane dodges and uses a Faint Attack.
Kane uses Razor leaves on his staggering opponent. Edgar crashes into the wall.
"You are so careless. Time to finish you off." Kane prepares to do a Leaf Blade. However, Edgar uses Force Palm sending the Shiftry crashing into another room through the wall.
Edgar gets up and looks over at his unconscious body of Kane.
"He's out cold. Good riddance."
After a few hours, an Electravire walks around the bandit hideout. He looks at the unconscious body of the Shiftry. "Hey wake up." The Shiftry doesn't respond. "Hey!" He kicks him lightly. The Electravire sighs. He then wraps his two tails around and zaps him. The Shift try wakes up b.
"Did you really need to zap me?" Kane got frustrated.
"I thought you were dead so I thought about jump stating your heart." The Electravire laughs.
"Yeah, that's not how it works." Kane scoffed.
"What happened here? Tell me you got the shard."
"No, I don't."
"What's the matter with you? It's not like you to fail a job." The Electravire asked in concern.
"I had it just in my grasp. I worked with Edgar former captain of the seventh company of Fepusa. I underestimated him. I thought I could kill him. I lied and told him some fake moves to catch him off-guard. But he outsmarted me by telling me his fake moves. Just when I thought I had him. He hit me with a Force Palm and then I ended up here."
The Electivire laughs loudly "You're pathetic."
"Yeah, whatever let's get out of here. I need to report what happened here."

Alranley City, Fepusa Nation, 11th April Year 1468

Edgar comes back to Alranley city as soon as he can. He hands over the box containing the soul shard. Ernest opens and examines it.
"Impressive! Thank you. The Alliance thanks you for your help."
"Why would the alliance thank me?" Edgar was confused.
"I think you deserve to know. The alliance is gathering the soul shards. We already have four shards. Two we have here. One in Dalonton and the other one in Trallanea."
"It doesn't make sense. Why are you keeping all the shards in one place? There are some groups out there that are after these shards."
"All the more reason too."
"There was this Shiftry who is after these shards. He also said that they have some kind of hit list and you are in that."
"Wait! A Shiftry. I saw a wanted poster of his. In Olisberg city. I think it might be the same Shiftry." Ray said
"Is that so?" Ernest asked. "Keith, notify the update to that bounty hunter office."
"Let's go kids we are getting out of here." Edgar leaves but before leaving. "Ernest, be careful around soul shards."
Keith waits for their visitors to leave. "Sir, are you sure we trust them to keep all the details secret."
Ernest chuckled. "They will have to keep their mouth shut for their own good."

Chapter 6: To Catch a Thief

Edgar’s Villa, Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 13th April Year 1468
A few days later after the events of Grim islands. Ray and his friends were relaxing.“I can’t believe sensei had to leave so urgently to Olisberg forest.” Reid said.“He never says a no to someone in need. Especially if they are from this village. He has done so much for this village.” Ray added.“I wanted to play a game with him today.” Reina sighed.“He isn’t himself since we came back from the capital.” Ray said.“I couldn’t believe that an island like that exists. Also, no one seems to care about it.” Reid exclaimed.Ray stood up and walked towards the window. “And everybody else wants to ignore it that they even erased it from maps.”Just as Ray was looking at the sky. A messenger Pidgeott lands in the backyard. “Looks like we have a visitor.” Ray announced.The Pidgeott hands a letter to Ray.Ray grabs it. “Who’s this from?” But before his question is answered The Pidgeott takes off to the sky. “I guess I’ll find out by reading.”Reid and Reina rushed to the backyard. “Who’s it from?” Reid asked.“He didn’t answer it.” Rays responded. “Reina why don’t you read it.”Reina got frustrated. “Why me?”Reina opens the letter and reads it. “I need your help it’s urgent. Come to the new address I wrote below.”“How Strange! Who is it from.” Reid asked.“It says from Doctor Stern.”“Never heard about him. Even sensei never mentioned him. What do we do?” Ray asked.“I think we should go sensei won’t be coming till tomorrow. Someone could be in trouble.” Reid said“I don’t know about this but I have a bad feeling.” Ray replied.“Come on, someone could be in a life or death situation and you are just going to ignore that.” Reid yelled at the Riolu.“Reid is right. Someone could be in danger and they send this to Sensei. That means sensei knows this person. Reina added.“Ok, fine, I get it.” Ray reluctantly agreed. “If we leave now we could reach Olisberg city before noon. Reina writes a note to sensei if he gets back early.”Reid smiles and pats Reid’s shoulder. “That’s the spirit.”
Slicton District, Olisberg City, Fepusa Nation, 13th April Year 1468
The trio arrived in Olisberg city in a few hours. They stood in front of a house which seems to be old and could fall at any moment. The paint was decaying and bricks were broken.“Are you sure this is the place?” Reid commented.“According to the letter we are at the right place” Reina replied.Ray walks closer to the door. “Let’s hope it doesn’t collapse while we are inside.” Rays knock on the door. The trio waited for a few minutes but no one responded.Reid sighs. “I think no one lives here.”“What are you looking for?” A female Roselia interrupts.Reina shows the letter to the grass types. “Are we at the right address?”Roselia looks at the letter. “Where did you get this letter from?”“That’s none of your business.” Ray looked at her suspiciously.“Do you know Edgar?” Roselia asked.“Yeah, we live with him.” Reid blurts out.Ray face palmed and was disappointed in Reid.The Roselia looks at him confused. “Why didn’t Edgar come himself?” She asked.The house door opens and a male Kadabra comes out. “Lilly, what’s taking you so long?”“I was just seeing who these suspicious pokemon are” The Roselia whose name is Lilly said.“Excuse me, you were the one who came to us and started poking in our business.” Ray got furious at Lilly’s accusation.“Settle down young one. Tell me what you want.” The Kadabra tried to calm down Ray.“We got this letter showing this address. Is this yours?” Reina asked.“That’s the right address but how did you get this letter. Lilly, did you put the wrong address? I was expecting Edgar.” The Kadabra said.“We came on behalf of Edgar. He is not at home at the moment.” Reina said.“But then who are you?” The Kadabra asked.“We are Edgar’s student but we also live with him.” Reina said.The Kadabra was thinking hard. “Ah! Yes, now I remember. Edgar said that he was living with other pokemons. It was a Machop, Meditite and a Riolu. Come in, come in.” The Kadabra invited them inside.
Inside the house
Compared to the outside the inside of the house was well kept. As if it was new. The Kadabra leads them to a hidden room. This room is a lab. The lab was filled with various machines.“I haven’t introduced myself. I am Doctor Stern. I am a scientist, engineer, inventor and many things but doctor first.” He points towards Lilly. “You have already met my lab assistant but I’ll do a proper introduction. Meet Lilly, my lab assistant. She is more than an assistant. She looks after the lab and the house all by herself.” “Why are the inside and outside completely different.” Ray asked curiously.“I don’t want everyone to know that there is a science lab down the house. It helps maintain the illusion. Ernest himself funded this facility.” Dr. Stern said.“Ernest did?” Ray asked.“Doctor, Can we even trust these people.” Lilly asked.“I trust Edgar so why can’t we trust them.” Stern said.“If you say so. I am sorry I came as rude.” Lilly apologized. “I can’t trust anyone easily”Ray nodded. “That’s understandable.” He turns his attention to the doctor. “How can we help you?”Stern sighs. “I’m not sure if you can help I was hoping for Edgar to come himself.”“If you tell us the problem we can help.” Reina said.“My research documents were stolen last night. I thought Edgar could use his sense of smell to find out where the thief is.” Stern said.“I am not as good as my sensei but I can try.” Just then Ray remembered something. “Actually I just realized yesterday it was raining people outside were talking about it. Such an odd time to rain. Now it will be impossible to track with scent.”The Doctor thought something for a while. “Well, there is another way.”He rummages through various apparatus and devices. “Ah, found it! With this machine, you can track the safe to the research papers.”“This is convenient thank you for that.” Reid said.“But there is a catch.” Stern interrupted.“Of course, it was not that simple.” Ray sighed.“It can only track the safe within a one-kilometer radius.” Stern Explained“Like what if someone already broke the safe?” Reina asked.“It will be impossible for them to open the safe.” Stern said.“Why?” Ray asked.“It will only open with Doctor stern physic energy.” Lilly explained.“But wouldn’t other Pokemon with psychic moves be able to open?” Reid questioned“No, it will only detect Dr. Stern’s psychic energy. Each Pokemon has different psychic energy just like their DNA.” Lilly Explained further.“Let’s just say If somebody uses fire to open it.” Rays asked.Lilly went speechless for a second. “Oh, I didn’t think about that.”“What about brute force?” Ray asked.“Yeah, also that.” Stern said.“What were the research papers about?” Ray asked.“We can’t tell you that it’s confidential.” Lilly interrupted.“We need to know what papers we are looking at when we catch the thief. In case the thief managed to break the safe.” Ray added.“I told you it’s confidential.” Lilly said with a slightly higher tone.The doctor sighs. “It’s okay Lilly. I was researching a machine that can find soul shards. The soul shards also have unique energy by isolating other energy I can locate the soul shards.”Ray nodded. “Interesting, we promise we won’t tell anybody about this.”“I trust you.” Stern said.“I’ll take the device that can track the safe.” Ray picked it up. “Let’s see. I’ll look around the dock. You two go check all the city exits.”“You might also want to check out the city bazaar. There is always good gossip going around there. Someone might have seen our thief.” Lilly recommended.“I’ll check around at the bazaar then.” Reina said.“We’ll meet back here in one hour.” Rays said.
One hour later
“Found out anything.” Ray asked.“Sorry, I didn’t find anything.” Reina said.“I found nothing solid but this might be related to the robbery. Last night the city guards found a suspicious boat and they confiscated it. I think the thief was going to use it as a gateway.” Ray said.Then Reid spoke. “At the south gate, a hooded Pokemon just ran past the gate. The guards were unable to catch him. They have sent some guards in Olisberg forest to look for the hooded figure.”Ray thought for a while. “It’s just a hunch. I think the hooded figure was trying to escape through seaways but his boat was confiscated. So he tried his luck by the exits but he was noticed. We should also go to Olisberg forest.”Reina nodded. “I agree we are at a dead end.”
Olisberg Forest, Fepusa Nation, 13th April Year 1468
The trio searched the forest for a few hours. The tracking device started making noise.“Look the machine is beeping.” Reina announced.“That means the thief must be close to a one-kilometer radius.” Reid said.“Or at least the safe.” Ray added. “Does it tell where exactly is it?”Reina shakes her head. “Not exactly. See there is a dot at the center which means where the machine is. You see the other dot. This is where the safe must be.” “Alright let’s go.” Reid said.Somewhere in Olisberg forest, a lonely Monferno was walking holding a safe.“Damn those City guards why did they have to find my gateway vehicle. It’s making my job a lot more difficult. Carrying this safe just slows me down. I hope whatever it is it’s in there. This is the most bizarre safe I have ever seen. It doesn’t have a key or a combination code. But I know for sure that there is something in there and it must be important. Maybe that is what she wants.After walking for a few minutes he encountered a Riolu standing in front of him. That Riolu was none other than Ray.“That locker doesn’t belong to you. Hand it over.” Ray demanded to return the safe.The Monferno turns around but his other path is blocked by Reid.“Give up now you are surrounded.” Reid ordered.The fire pokemon looks around franticly to get away. “I am so close I won’t be stopped by some kids.” He attacks with Flamethrower on Ray.Ray jumps out of the way. The Monferno takes his chance and escapes. The three of them follow him. Reid catches up with him and uses Low Sweep to trip him. But the Monferno simply jumps over it. This time Ray catches the Monferno off guard. Ray lands a Force Palm knocking the fire pokemon down and separating him from the Safe. Reina reaches for the sake but the Monferno recovers and uses Flame Wheel. Reina dodges the attack but the fire type again gets the possession of safe.“This will only slow me down.” The fire type uses Flamethrower on the safe door. Then uses Mach Punch to break it. He grabs the paper and runs away again.Reid groans. “Did it really have to be a fire type who not only used fire but also brute strength?”“Stop moaning and start chasing him” Ray yelled.The Monferno kept running. “I should have got rid of that safe earlier.” From the corner of his eyes, he saw a blue figure. Ray jumped at him with a Force Palm. The fire type ducks out of the way.“Let’s finish this guys.” Reina was determined to not let the fire type escape this time.She used Confusion to lift the fire type. Ray and Reid understood what she was planning. Ray used Force Palm and Reid used Karate Chop. Both attacks land simultaneously putting the fire type out of commission. The Monferno Crawled towards the research papers. “No! I was so close. I can’t fail now.”Reina picked up the papers and look through them. “Guys this is the thing we were looking for.”The Monferno laughs maniacally. “It must be exactly what she wanted. I was this close and my plans got destroyed because of some kids playing wanna-be heroes. But if I can’t have it no one can.” He uses Flamethrower at the papers setting them on fire.Reina uses her hand to extinguish the fire. But the damage was already done half of the papers got burned to ashes.Reid rushes over to Reina. “Are you okay?” He asked in concern. “Oh, your hand is burned.”“It’s ok it will heal. We have a lot of explaining to do to sensei.” Reina giggled.Ray holds the Monferno by the neck. “What have you done?” He yelled at him.The Monferno laughs not responding to Ray’s threat. Ray then uses Force Palm to knock him out.“Hey, calm down. Beating him won’t bring back those papers.” Reid tried to calm Ray down.Ray clicks his tongue and punches a tree. “Reina, are you alright.”Reina smiled. “I’m fine now.”Ray hears some footsteps approaching. “Someone’s coming.”Five city guards came to the scene. “What’s happened here I heard lots of sound coming from here?” One of the guards asked.“We did your job for you. That pokemon there is a thief. He was also the one who ran past the gate.” Ray points at the unconscious fire type.“We were notified about a Monferno sneaking through the forest. He’s a sneaky one he avoided all our checkpoints and made it this far. You kids need any help?” One of the guards asked.“No, thank you. We got it. Come on guys let’s go.” Ray said.Far away from the shadows, a Gardevoir was watching.
“What a fool he burned the papers just because he couldn’t get it himself. This is why I shouldn’t have outsourced. Those three again. I never thought I would see them again. That’s the second time they have come in my way. Well, actually only one time. The first time they didn’t have the soul shard. If they come in my way again I’ll have no choice but to kill them.”

Dr. Stern’s Lab, Slicton District, Olisberg City, Fepusa Nation, 13th April Year 1468
Doctor Stern was disappointed with the fate of his research.“I’m sorry we couldn’t bring you back your research.” Reina said.Stern smiled. “It’s okay. It’s just a research paper. I’ll just have to work harder. Besides at least half of it is salvageable. What matters most is that you all are safe.”Reid was confused. “Does that mean that you are not mad at us for failing?”“This was not an exam to fail.” Stern cleared his throat. “It was better that he burned it himself. Had it gotten into the wrong hands. They defiantly would have made the machine. If that person was a genius like me.” He laughs.“I am sorry I doubted. You really brought those papers even if it was burned.” Lilly praised them.“There is no need to apologize.” Reina said.“I admit when I’m wrong and I apologize when I make mistake.” Lilly said.“We have to leave now before it gets dark.” Ray said.“Goodbye, and take care.” Stern said his farewell.“Maybe we should hang out sometime. That is when I am not doing research and you are not chasing after thieves.” Lilly said.Reina smiled. “Absolutely.”
Olisberg Forest, Fepusa Nation, 13th April Year 1468
On their way back to Olisberg village the trio had a small conversation.“You know, I think it best that the Monferno burned those papers.” Ray said.“Why would you say that?” Reina asked both confused and disgusted at such thinking.“That way they would never find any soul shards.” Ray explained.“Oh yeah. I almost forgot about that soul shard. We don’t want anyone to find that.” Reid realized.“That Monferno was working for someone else.” Ray said.“How would you know?” Reid asked.“When Reina got hold of those papers. He said that it was those papers she wanted.” Ray said.“Now there are more of them. That means that this person is also looking for a way to get soul shards.” Reina said.“Well, who cares about that? Chapter 7: Hunter vs Bandits

Edgar’s Villa, Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 21st April Year 1468
A few days later Edgar got another letter. This time it was from Dalonton leader.“We have been getting lots of letters this month. I guess we are famous now.” Ray said sarcastically.Edgar glares at Ray to which he apologized quickly. Edgar sighed.  “I know exactly what will this be about.”“What did the letter say?” Reina was curious.‘I have to meet their informant at Olisberg port. So yes I have to go to Olisberg city today.” Edgar replied.“I thought you already told them not to contact us in the future.” Said Reid.“I did, they just won’t keep their end of the word.” Edgar said.“But why you? I’m sure there are others capable of doing the job.” Ray asked.“I don’t have an answer to your question. I think they probably need someone trustworthy.” Edgar answered.Their conversation was interrupted by a Torkoal accompanied by a Nidoking and Corphish. The Torkoal was the village chief and his companion were farmers.“Chief, what brings you here?” Edgar asked.“I’m sorry if I interrupted anything. We are in desperate need of your help.” The Torkoal said.“No, you haven’t interrupted anything, What’s troubling you?” Edgar asked.“The bandits have been too much trouble. We can’t transport goods to the capital without getting robbed. I asked the guards from the capital for our help but they just dismissed it by saying It’s the forest guard’s duty. The forest guards said that they are looking after them but they have no leads. We were planning on hiring mercenaries but the fees are too much for us. I’m begging you please help us. I know you are capable of stopping those bandits by yourself. The tax collector will come next month I don’t think we have enough to pay.” The Torkoal started sobbing.“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” Edgar asked.“I thought you would not help.” Chief replied.“When have I ever said I won’t help you in need or anyone from the village? When are you leaving?” Edgar asked.“Tomorrow.” The chief replied.Edgar went silent. He looked away unable to look at the chief or the other villagers. “Can you delay it?”“I’m afraid I can’t wait much longer. The villagers are getting restless.” Chief replied. “Will you help us?”“I’m sorry… I can’t. I have to be somewhere else it’s important.” Edgar looked away.The Torkoal gave in “Then all hope is lost.”“We can help you?” Reid interrupted.“What do you mean we?” Ray asked.Reid groaned. “Don’t be like that. By ‘we’ I mean us three.”Chief shakes his head. “No, no I could never put your lives at risk for this.”“Believe it or not we already took down one bandit captain.” Reid boasted.“We almost died. Also, he was lieutenant” Ray added.Reina narrowed her eyes “Not helping!”“We also tracked down a thief and caught him.” Reid boasted again.“With help of a machine also, we failed the main mission.” Ray added.“Okay, okay I get it. We were not perfect but we pulled through it.” Reid yelled at Ray. “Sensei can vouch for us.”“Chief, they are going with you tomorrow. They are more than capable of doing the job. Don’t underestimate them.” Edgar looked proudly at his students.“I’ll make the preparations meet me tomorrow morning at the village gate.” The chief and his company leave.“I have faith in you three. These pokemons are counting on us don’t let them down.” Edgar patted his student’s head. He prepares to leave for his destination.
Olisberg Village, Fepusa Nation, 22nd April Year 1468
Ray and his friends were prepared to leave. The Nidoking named Harlund prepared the convoy. Two wagons one with goods and the other with supplies for the journey. Two Tauros were called to pull the wagon. The Corphish named Fernon helped them strap to the wagon. A Lopunny named Avielea was checking for supplies to help them on their way. The village chief approaches the group. He inspects the wagons and nods.The chief looks at Ray. “Are you ready?”Ray nods.Reid was confused. “Wait! You’re not coming with us?”“You don’t want me slowing you down. Unless you want to carry me on your back.” The chief chuckled.Harlund interrupted. “We should leave now. Leaving at a different time may help us avoid them.”Ray and his friends, three villagers and two Tauros depart toward the capital. The Torkoal watches them anxiously.
Olisberg Forest, Fepusa Nation, 22nd April Year 1468
The convoy was moving at a slow pace. Ray and his friend were walking. Ray, Reid and Harlund were walking in front of the first wagon. Reina, Fernon and Avielea were walking behind the second wagon. Everyone was tense throughout the journey.“How much time will it take to reach there?” Ray asked.“We will reach by noon tomorrow at this pace. Maybe a few hours early if we reduce our brake time.” Harlund replied.“How much worth of pokes did you lose last time.” Ray asked.“Thirteen thousand pokes. Eight thousand from the first delivery and five thousand from the last one. I also included the jewelry. We didn’t carry anything valuable last same goes for this time.” He sighed then got furious. “Damn those bandits to oblivion. Making life of honest people miserable. If they show up I won’t stand by and do nothing.”“I understand your frustration but do you have any actual combat experience?” Ray asked.“Yes, I mean no. As a kid I got into a fight and won.” He said shamefully.“Yeah, that’s not going to cut it. I say you stay out of it for your safety.”“What’s wrong with letting him fight for his people” Reid questioned.“Ray is right, I’ll just end up getting in your way” Harlund replied.At the second wagon, Reina noticed that Avielea was nervous.“Are you alright?” Reina was concerned.“Oh, I thought was good at hiding it” She chuckled nervously. “It’s the first time I have been out of the village. I replaced my friend. She has been sick for a few days.”“I hope she gets better.”“I’ll tell her that you wished her well. My father was not ready to let me leave. It took a lot to convince him to get his permission. The group needed a cook so I thought I would volunteer myself.”“I can’t wait to eat your cooked food.” Reina smiled.
Haverfil Valley, Fepusa Nation, 22nd April Year 1468
The next few hours went without any incident. The group took a few minutes of break to eat and relax. The convoy reaches Haverfil valley. Haverfil valley is located at the east of Olisberg forest. Emernet river flows between this valley.Ray sniffed the pleasant air but also eleven other pokemon scents. “We have company eleven pokemon are coming towards us.” Ray warned.The group quickly takes a defensive stance. The trio looks around. Ten pokemons come out of hiding. Two Machoke, Three Haunter and five Mankey. Their leader a Pinsir comes out too.The leader looks at Harlund. “We meet again for the third time. Did you really think changing your timing will save you?” He laughs maniacally.Harlund grits his teeth.“I hope you brought more than last time to rob for us.” The leader looks at Ray. “New faces? You know the drill take all the pokes and anything valuable.A Mankey walks towards the wagon and laughs. “This is going to be easy”Before he could touch the wagon. Ray strikes him with a surprise Force Palm knocking him unconscious. The leader shocked by it gets angry. He orders every bandit to attack at once. Ray, Reid and Reina each cover three pokemon. Ray fights two Machoke and a Haunter. Reid fights one Haunter and two Mankey same with Reina. The trio struggle with their own fight. Not having experience in fighting multiple opponents at once put them at disadvantage. A Machoke seeing that Ray is distracted by his other two enemies goes towards the wagon. Harlund tries to stop him but the Machoke easily overpowers him leaving Harlund wounded.A Machoke grabs Avielea. “If one of you even moves I’ll snap her like a twig.”“Leave her alone!” Ray yelled. Seeing him distracted his two opponents take the opportunity to overpower him and pin him on the ground.Out of nowhere, the Machoke is stabbed by multiple razor-sharp leaves killing him instantly. His lifeless body hits the ground and Avielea escapes free. Everyone looks in the direction from where the leaves came in. A Sceptile was standing there.The Sceptile looks at the leader. “Kalnur, wanted alive for robbery and murder. Threat level B rank. Reward six thousand pokes” He said.The leader looked a little scared. “Wait you are that bounty hunter Sceptile going around killing all wanted criminals. Even the ones which are wanted alive. So what do you think you are a tough one. You are just a false story made up to scare the weak one.”The Sceptile quickly used Leaf blade on Ray’s opponent and fatally wound them. The other bandits back away.The bandit leader takes a step back in fear. “We are retreating for now. You are no better than them.” Reina said.“Had I not interfered your two friends would have died then.” The Sceptile Said. “Those bandits are going to come again. This time I’ll be with you whether you like it or not. Don’t worry I don’t charge for my services.”“Great now you are ordering us.” Reina yelled.“Calm down Reina he just saved our hide. We should let him come with us.” Reid suggested.“I’m sorry I couldn’t do much back there but we could use his help. He is a bounty hunter after all.” Fernon said his opinion.“I don’t agree with his method but we could use his protection. He is volunteering without any charges.” Harlund said.“We should allow him to come with us.” Avielea said“I’ve seen you before in Olisgberg city. You just ignored me then. I don’t know if they deserved it or not but you don’t have any right to go around killing mons. What if someone was framed? Have you thought about that? You don’t seem to have any bad intentions but I can’t let you come with us.” Ray said.“The majority have voted for him to stay. You know how it is. Sorry, Ray and Reina.” Harlund said.“I didn’t know that we were voting but it is acceptable.” Ray looks at the Sceptile. “I’ll need your name regardless.”“Mercer, my name is Mercer.” The Sceptile revealed his name.Ray looked at him suspiciously. “I’ll be keeping an eye on you.”At night the group set up a campfire. Avielea was preparing food with help of Reina. Harlund and Fernon were working around the campfire. Ray and Reid were relaxing near the campfire. The two Tauros were resting. Mercer was away from the group alone. When the meal was prepared. Avielea and Reina were passing along the meal.Avielea hands Harlund his share. “Are you feeling alright? That Machoke did few numbers on you.”“I’m fine It’s just I’m embarrassed right now. Getting beat up in front of young ones and then getting rescued by a total stranger.” Harlund looked down in shame.“It’s ok. No one is blaming you. You did what you could.” Avielea smiled. Harlund also let out a light smile.Reina gives Ray and Reid their share. She looks at Ray. “Are you feeling better?” Reina was worried.“Yeah, I’ll be fine by morning just need to rest a bit.” Ray nodded.The group gathered by camp fire talking and sharing their stories to even playing some games. Avielea approached Mercer and gave her some food. Mercer first declined but Avielea insisted. “Why don’t you join us by fire camp?” She asked.“No I won’t some may not like my company.” Mercer declined.The Lopunny grabs his hand and drags him to the campfire. “I won’t take no for an answer.” She makes some space for him and forces him to sit. The Sceptile reluctantly agreed.“Hey, I’m glad you joined us.” Reid welcomed him. “Don’t mind Ray he is not like that.”Ray ignored Reid’s comment but didn’t object to Mercer joining. Reina also didn’t say anything.“I… I thank you for your hospitality. It’s been a long time since I’m surrounded by good mons.” Mercer thanked the group.“Avielea, the food is amazing.” Reina complimented. The rest of the group also praised her cooking including Mercer.Later everyone was ready to sleep for the night.“I’ll keep watch. They may try to attack us during the night.” Mercer suggested.“No, let me keep a watch. I want to be helpful.” Fernon insisted.“Fernon is right. We need you in peak condition for tomorrow. That also goes for you three.” Harlund said. “I and Fernon will keep switching after two hours. We leave at six o’clock in the morning.”
Haverfil Valley, Fepusa Nation, 23rd April Year 1468
The night passes without any incident. Harlund and Fernon took turns keeping a watch. The group resumed their journey early morning. The group crossed the Emernet river.Ray, Mercer, Harlund and Fernon were walking in front of the first wagon. The rest were behind the second wagon.“It will only take a few more hours. Once we cross that mountain. We will be in a safe zone.” Harlund announced.“What’s your story, Mercer? Why did you become a bounty hunter? Fernon asked curiously.“I don’t feel like sharing my details but I’ll answer your other question.” Mercer said. “I’m not a bounty hunter. I don’t even have a badge.”“Why would you do that? You go around killing mons who are on a wanted poster. You could become an official bounty hunter and earn some money.” Harlund said.“Forgive me. I overheard a conversation last night that this wasn’t the first or second time you got robbed. Let’s just say that I captured one of them. They get sent to jail, serve their sentence and get out. What happens next? They start doing the same thing again.” Mercer said.“Let the law do its job. Why are you going around making enemies?” Harlund asked.“If the law did its job. You wouldn’t be here getting robbed third time.” Mercer answered.“So, you think you are some kind of judge, jury and executioner.” Ray asked.“Maybe.” Mercer answered.“Wait! I smell them again they are coming. This time there are eighteen of them.” Ray warned.The Bandit Captain Kalnur comes out with eight Magnamite, Six Mankey and Four Haunter. “Sceptile you cost me two Machoke and a Haunter. I’ll kill you for that. I won’t be intimidated by you again. Attack!”Mercer uses Leaf Strom killing two Magnamite, three Mankey and a Haunter.Ray grits his teeth. “Reina you take care of Haunters. Me and Reid will take care of the rest.” He ordered.Reina was fighting two Haunter. Ray and Reid were fighting four Magnamite and two Mankey. The leader was protected but two Magnamite, a Mankey and a Haunter. Mercer effortlessly killed them using leaf blade. Now it was just Mercer and Kalnur. Kalnur was in complete rage. He was unable to think calmly. Mercer used that to his advantage.“I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.” Kalnur mindlessly attacked Mercer with Brick Break. Mercer dodges it with ease.“Why won’t you die.” Kalnur screamed.“You have already lost.” Mercer slashes The Pinsir with Leaf blade.“No! No! Don’t kill me. I beg of you, have mercy.” Kalnur kneeled clutching his wound.“Did you spare the lives of those you killed? Did you show them mercy when they asked for it?” Mercer prepares his Razor leaves.“No! Don’t do it” Ray interrupted.Mercer ignored him and ends the bandit’s life. He takes a deep breath and exhales. The rest of the bandits flee watching their leader’s death.“Did that make you feel better?” Ray asked.Mercer looks Ray dead in the eye. “Tell me, Ray. What would you have done if one of these had even hurt your friends and family?”Ray remains speechless.“See, you don’t have an answer for it. I’ll still accompany you till Alreany. As I said before I won’t charge you and you don’t have to owe me anything. The hospitality you showed me last night is all that I needed.”Mercer accompanied the group till Alreany. Then he went his own way. The villagers traded their goods and earned some money. The group returned to the village in a few days.

Edgar and his student went to the beach. A Machamp with a row boat was waiting. They got into the boat and the Machamp started rowing them towards Olisberg port. The Machamp was using four oars at the same time.The Machamp smiles smugly. "Normally it will take four hours to reach but with me, It will only take two hours to reach Olisberg port.""Is that why you choose to travel by sea?" Reid asked.Edgar nods. "And so that you can rest a bit. Tell me what happened. I can tell that it didn't go smoothly."Reina stops Ray and Reid. Reina explains with as much details as she could. She told him about the bandits. About the Sceptile who was going after bounties to kill them. "I want to ask one thing. Is what he is doing right?""I don't know how to answer that. Some will say that it is right. Some will not. This Mercer is driven by revenge. From what you told me. He wants to inflict the same pain that he must have endured. We don't know what his full story is. When you seek vengeance, you only hurt yourself more than others." Edgar extends his arm. "Promise me this that none of you will seek vengeance."Reina places her hand on Edgar's. Reid follows by. Edgars looks at Ray. Ray also places his hand.
Olisberg Port, Slicton District, Fepusa Nation, 25th April Year 1468
Arriving at the port. The group met a Forretress who was the informant Edgar mentioned earlier. The Forretress cleared the area so they can talk in private."Is that all you need?" The Forretress asked and Edgar nodded. "Good. I'll explain to you from start and also give more details. We believe there is another soul shard in Dhaschil desert. We have prepared a team who are just near Dhaschil village as we speak. There are ten mons led by Hicklod. Hicklod is the personal bodyguard of Dalonton's representative." He points towards a docked ship. "That ship will take you to Dhaschil village. Also, don't say anything about soul shard they don't have any idea about it. The fewer people know, the more it remains confidential.""You are not coming?" Reid asked."My job was just to deliver the info. Take care all of you" The Forretress wished them good luck and went his way.The four of them board the ship. The ship's captain a Floatzel greets them."Welcome to my ship. I'll take you to your destination safely. We will reach there before dark. I know you are some important people but this is my ship. There are some rules you have to follow while you are on my ship."Edgar nods. "I understand.""Good. Your room is down to the left. If you need anything just ask anyone and they will help you."
Dhaschil Village, Dalonton Nation, 25th April Year 1468
The group was dropped at Dhaschil village. They made their way toward the meeting point. There Alakazam and Drilbur were waiting."Hey, you're right on time. I am Hicklod personal bodyguard of lord Isrean, representative of Dalonton. This is Noel. He is an archeologist.""So he is just like Keith." Reid commented.Hicklod scowled. "Don't compare me with him. I am better than him."Reina raised her hands in defense. "Noted! Looks like they might have an unfriendly rivalry." Reina whispered."Let's go to the inn I'll explain everything." Said Hicklod as he led Edgar and others toward the inn.
Sandy Huntress Inn, Dhaschil Village, Dalonton Nation, 25th April Year 1468
"Innkeeper, I'll need the keys to the rooms I asked for." Hicklod ordered. The innkeeper tossed the key and Hicklod catches with his psychic power. He hands Edgar one and the other to Reina."Follow me." Hicklod leads Edgar upstairs. The trio waits behindNoel looks at the trio. "Hello! I wanted to introduce myself again. I'm Noel and I'm an archaeologist. In training actually."He shakes his hand with three of them."I'm Reina. This is Reid and this is Ray." Reina introduced."Hey, nice to meet you." Reid said.Ray nodded. "Nice to meet you.""You are from Olisberg village, right? How's life there?" Noel asked."It's quiet and peaceful." Reina answered. "Where are you from?""I'm from Alreany. I came here a few months ago. There are many historical sites here in the desert. I have been doing lots of research. I'm sure we will find something to excavate."Reid looks at his comment in confusion. "I don't understand why are we going excavation. Aren't we looking for-"Ray knew that Reid was going to slip about soul shard. He puts his hand on Reid's shoulder interrupting him. "Of course, we are going excavating." Ray lowered his voice and whispered. "Just play along." Noel resumed his rambling about his work.Upstairs Edgar and Hicklod were talking in Hicklod's private room"Do those three know what they are getting into?" He asked.Edgar looked at him in confusion. "You haven't told the archeologist what he is getting into?""No, the only people that know about this are you, me and your students. In fact, we are using the archeologist as a cover. I brought ten soldiers for this. They have set up a camp outside the village. They don't know the actual reason we are here. We told them that we are here for excavation.""How do you plan on hiding the truth once they see the shard?" Edgar asked."I'll handle that. What about your students can they handle themselves?""They will be fine." Edgar assured."Okay. We should rest now. I'll see you tomorrow morning."
Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
The group along with Noel, Hicklod and his mons walked towards the site. Hicklod's guards were mostly rock and ground type. Four Golem and Six Rydon. Edgar and his students were sweating. The others were used to the Dalonton's hot climate. Reina gave water to her friends.Hicklod noticed. "You might want to save water and drink only when needed. We are not far away now just one more hour."After an hour the group reaches the site. Stonefall Barrow. The whole structure is slightly tilted.Noel examined the sand, the structure and the entrance. "So this is Stonefall Barrow. Fascinating. The sand on one side of this structure must have loosened up. Causing the whole thing to tilt. It will still be safe to explore.""You heard him. We are going in. I want five of you to stay out. Don't let anyone in or out. If we don't come out in five hours. Report to lord Isrean." He ordered.
Stonefall Barrow, Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
The group along with five guards enters Stonefall Barrow. Edgar leads the group. His students walk behind him. Hicklod and Noel follow them. Five Rydon are at last.The first Rydon hears a click. He looks down and sees that he is standing on a pressure plate. He looks up and sees the ceiling coming down. He quickly jumps backward to safety. Noel also noticed the ceiling falling. He pushes Hicklod and jumps to safety. The ceiling block falls blocking their way.Hicklod thanks, Noel. "I guess there is no going back."Noel examines the block. "That must have been a trap, a delayed trap. It usually triggers when enough people have stepped on it. There must be a hidden mechanism to clear our path. I hope none of the Rydon was caught.""They will be fine. I already told them what to do in such a situation. We should keep moving. We will figure out the switch when we return."The group continued their path. Then the path splits in three ways."What do we do now?" Noel asked.Edgar scratched his chin. "We should spit up. I'll take the straight path. Ray, Reid and Reina will take the right one. Hicklod and Noel take the left one. Any problem with that?" He asked."We want to take the middle path." Reid insisted."You are going with Ray and Reina. You'll take the path that's already assigned to you. Understand?"Reid nods."Good, let's meet outside when we are done."
Library, Stonefall Barrow, Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
Hicklod and Noel continued on the left path. Noel picked up a stone from a weak wall and examined it. "Judging by the texture of the wall. I'd say this place was built six to seven thousand years ago."Hicklod thought that this place was built to hide a soul shard. "Are you sure about that?""Yes, it's definitely older than five thousand years."The two of them enter a room. The room was filled with bookshelves and some tables. It was a library. The two examine the room. Noel looks through some books. However, most of them were in poor condition. They were written in a different language. Which would take days to translate. The entrance suddenly shuts close.Hicklod walks towards the exit and sees the iron door. "Is this supposed to be another trap?""No, we are not alone here someone must have closed it from the inside.""How right you are!" A Garchomp comes out of hiding. He looks at Hicklod. "You are on our elimination list. I came here for soul shard but I'll be satisfied with just crossing you out of the list."Noel looked at the Garchomp in confusion. Why would he be talking about soul shard? Before he could ask a question Hicklod stood in front of him."Run away or hide now. Are you the group that's going around gathering soul shards? How many do you have? What do you plan to do with it?"The Garchomp's claw glows white and uses Slash. "You talk too much."Hicklod crosses his arms and a barrier is raised around him. It was Reflect. The Garchomp's attack gets blocked."Not bad" The Garchomp commented.Hicklod fires Psybeam. Garchomp evades and attacks with Dragon Claw. Hicklod's reflect blocks it but is about to wear off. Hicklod fires another Psybeam this time hitting the dragon-type. Garchomp's body glows light blue and flies towards Hicklod. Hicklod tries to stop the Garchomp's attack using Psychic. He struggles to stop the attack so he diverts it instead. The Garchomp crashes into a wall.Before the Garchomp recovers, Hicklod fires four Psybeam the dragon-type goes still. Hicklod looks at Garchomp's still body. The Garchomp lunges using Dragon Claw wounding the psychic type.The Garchomp smirks. "You're pretty good, not gonna lie."The Garchomp uses another Dragon Claw. Hicklod again uses Psychic to stop the attack. The Garchomp breaks free and uses Fire Fang on the psychic type's hand. Hicklod winces in pain. Luckily it didn't cause a burn. Garchomp uses another Dragon Rush. Hicklod tries to block using Reflect but it was too late. Hicklod is sent crashing through the bookshelves.The Garchomp spots Drilbur hiding. "Come out. I know you are hiding behind the bookshelf." The Drilbur doesn't move. The Garchomp losses his patience. He aggressively pushes the bookshelf and steps on the Drilbur. He holds his claw near his prey. "Are you scared? You should be. Don't worry I won't kill you but I might change my mind." He leans over and brings his mouth close. Noel attacks with Metal Claw. The Dragon type was barely phased by that. "Was that supposed to hurt me? I could barely feel a scratch. Now you have really pissed me off." He prepares to attack with Dragon Claw."Hey pick someone of your own size." Hicklod interrupted.The Garchomp kicks Drilbur away. "You still have some fight left in you? Come on and show me what you got."Hicklod forms an orange orb of energy in front of its hand and fires it at the dragon type.The Garchomp gets blasted away. The dragon type falls on the ground.Hicklod helps Noel get up. "Are you alright? I'm sorry I lied about this but I'll explain to you later." He turns his attention to the Garchomp.The Garchomp slowly gets up. "That was unexpected. Another hit and that will be the end of me." He attacks with Dragon Claw twice. Hicklod is badly wounded.Hicklod fires Psybeam. The Garchomp attacks with Dragon Rush going through the psybeam and tackling his enemy to the wall. He pins the psychic type by sitting on him. His claw glow light green but is interrupted by Noel's Metal Claw. The Garchomp slams Noel with his fang.The dragon-type smiled smugly. "Let's play a game. It's been a long since I had a good fight. So I have decided to spare one of you. You Hicklod, you will be the one to decide. Should I kill this little Drilbur or you instead? I'll spare the other one. The clock is ticking.""Let me die." Noel begged. "You are more important person. I'm just nobody. You lied to me but I forgive you."Hicklod shakes his head. "It's not fair for you. I lied to you I got you into this mess. This is my punishment. Bodyguards are replaceable but mons like you are not. I have decided that I'll die." He smirks at the Garchomp. "Go ahead do your worst.""As you wish." The Garchomp kills Noel instead.Hicklod watched in horror as Noel's lifeless body lies near him. "What have you done? You were supposed to kill me." He yelled."I want you to hate me as much as you can. See how you failed to save one little Drilbur and you expect to save your master from me." The Garchomp walked away and pulled a chain. The exit opens. "Wymer, remember my name." Wymer leaves.Hicklod tried to get up but his body wouldn't move. "Get back here Wymer. Get back." Hicklod's treat echoed through the empty corridor as Wymer left.
The Tombs, Stonefall Barrow, Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
Edgar's path led him to a tomb. Many pokemon were buried. There were also statues of various pokemon. They were probably of some important mons. Edgar saw a Feraligatr rummaging through graves.He sighs in defeat. "How many more graves do I have to dig to find it."Edgar sneaked closer to know what the Feraligatr was doing. Unknowing to him he stepped on a water puddle making some noise. The Feraligatr turn his attention to where the sound came from."Someone there?" He looks around and sees Edgar. "I am glad that I made some water puddles. Wouldn't want someone sneaking on me. Well, look who showed up. Edgar, former captain of the seventh company. What brings you here?""The soul shard.""Straight to the point eh? Well, you see we have a list and-""And I'm on it. You will try to kill me I know that. Who are you? No, who are you people? Why do you seek the soul shards.?"Oh yes, you already met Kane in Grim islands. I am Heinrik. We are new world order. Why we want the soul shard that I won't answer." He fires Water Pulse.Edgar dodges and attacks with Aura Sphere knocking the water type back. Heinrik keeps firing Water Pulse. Edgar keeps dodging while closing the distance. Heinrik anticipated it and switches to Crunch. Edgar uses Bone Rush as a defense. Heinrik pushes Edgar but he holds up. Edgar attacks with Force Palm sending the water-type flying into one of the graves he was rummaging.Heinrik slowly gets up from the grave. "Kane wasn't exaggerating you." He releases a powerful blast of water from his mouth. It was Hydro Pump. Edgar dives into another grave. The hydro pump destroys the tombstone.Edgar looks at the skeleton of Dewott. "Sorry about this." He apologizes.Heinrick runs towards Edgar's location. He looks down and only sees the skeleton of Dewott. Edgar sneak attacks with Force Palm which connects. He switches to Bone Rush and makes three successful hits. Heinrik stops the fourth with his hand and head-butts Edgar. He switches to Crunch. Edgar was dazed but he recovered and blocks by holding his bone between the water type's jaw.Heinrick chuckled while still trying to bite through the bone. Heinrik fangs glows light blue. Edgar's conjured bone slowly turns into ice and breaks. Heinrik switches to Water Pulse sending Edgar crashing into a tombstone and breaking it in many parts.Edgar recovers and uses Aura Sphere. The Feraligatr dodges and fires water pulse. Edgar moves out of the way. Heinrik smirked and fire Hydro Pump. The jet of water sends Edgar flying toward a wall.Heinrik looked at Edgar's body which wasn't moving. He turns around to leave."Where do you think you are going?" Edgar got up.Heinrik smirks and uses Water Pulse and Edgar answers with Aura Sphere. The two attack crashes making a shockwave, sending both pokemon flying.Heinrik is still on the ground and looks around for Edgar. He sees no sign of his opponent. "Looks like I won."Henrik is suddenly stricken by a Bone Rush. Edgar hits him five times. He charges Aura Sphere and strikes the water-type sending him flying.Edgar pants and drops to his knees. He sees a skeleton of a Pangoro. The Pangoro skeleton was in a sitting position which Edgar thought was odd.Henrik saw that Edgar was distracted. He limped to the exit.He investigates the area around the skeleton. He found a journal that he assumed to be the Pangoro's. He flips the journal to the last entry."I have become old and I can feel getting weaker day by day. I have protected this shard for years. I have decided this to be my final resting place. If you want the shard, it's all yours. I have kept it in Treasury. For whatever reason you need, good or bad. When all shards are again you will only find misery."Edgar puts back the journal where he found it. "Rest in peace. I'll never let the shards come together."
Treasury, Stonefall Barrow, Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
The trio's path led to the treasury. The room was filled with ancient coins, old antiques jeweled crowns. Most importantly at the center were stairs leading to an elevated platform.The trio climbed the stairs. There they saw three stones. Each stone's upper part had three sides. It also had a different symbol engraved on each side. A Book, a coffin and a coin. There was a stone button in front of the three stones.Reina examined the stones and the symbol. "Obviously, this is a puzzle. We need to align it in the right order." She looks at a black stone slab behind the three stones. "Then this thing will come up."Ray scratched his chin. "But we don't know the right combination.""I say we try every combination till we get the right one." Reid suggested."We are not doing that. We don't know what would happen if we get the wrong one." Ray shouted."Let's see. Since this is a treasury and we took the right path I say the right one should have the coin symbol." Reina turns the right stone till the coin symbol is facing the front."That's logical." Reid thought. "I say we flip a coin for the rest.""You want to leave our fate to a flip of a coin?""We should check the other paths then." Reina suggested."We are not going back." Ray stopped her."Why not?""Did you ever think why sensei insist that we take this path? Even when Reid wanted to take the center path." The other two shook their head. "Because someone is here before us. He sensed it. I also sensed it and they were fresh tracks. So, unless you want to get in their way you are free to go."Reina sighs. "So, what do we do now?""As much as hate it. We have to with Reid's idea."Reid smirks. "I told you." He grabs one coin from the sea of coins. "The first one will be a book symbol if its heads. Alright, let's do it." He flips the coin and it's a heads.Reid spins the first one to the book symbol. Ray spins the center one till the coffin symbol."Since it was my idea, I'll do it. You can stay back." Reid suggested."We are in this together." Ray hovered his hand above the button and smiled."Whatever happens we face it together." Reina also hovered her hand above the button and smiled.The trio were nervous. They gulped and pushed the button. The stone slab slides upwards revealing a soul shard in a glass container. The trio waited for something to happen. Luckily it was nothing."Let's get it and go." Reid said.Ray grabbed the container and gave it to Reina. They leave the treasury.

The third Rydon said.The first Rydon tapped his chin. "I always had this question since I joined but I never questioned it since the pay was good. Why would Lord Isrean's bodyguard accompany an archaeologist? When he should be near him protecting all the time."The second Rydon thought about it. "Now that I think about it. You are right. They are defiantly hiding something from us. Also, there is that former captain of the seventh company of Fepusa nation. Why would he be here?"The five of them hear a sharp click as the block blocking their path is lifted up."Well speak of the devil. I'm going to ask them about all this."Edgar meets his students in the corridor. "Hey, you three alright?"The three of them nod. Reina shows him the soul shard."Good, keep it with you for now.""Are you alright? Weary and injured. Who was it?" Ray asked."A Feraligatr. Don't worry about me. Those guards outside are in danger."They arrive at the area where they were separated from the guards. They saw now dead guards in the corridor. Edgar checked for their pulse. Unfortunately, no one lived.
Dhaschil Desert, Dalonton Nation, 26th April Year 1468
They exit Stonefall Barrow. They saw more dead guards. Edgar clenched his fist. "I shouldn't have let him escape."They saw Hicklod come out holding Noel's dead body in his arms."No, no, no it can't be." Reina was in denial.Hicklod lays Noel's body on the ground. "He is dead. It was a Garchomp.""I encountered a Feraligatr.""You knew about this, didn't you? Look at me and answer you knew about it, didn't you? That is why you sent your students to the right." He pushes Edgar. "You could have stopped this. We could have taken them one by one. Instead, you send us to our doom. My guards and Noel's blood is on your hands"Edgar was patient with Hicklod but the last line made him lose his patience. He pushes the psychic type onto the ground. "You think you and Isrean are innocent? You brought this on yourself. In fact, you used them. I don't know what happened with you and that Garchomp but you failed to protect him. You used him as your cover story for soul shard hunting. Now not only you got him killed but ten others as well. So don't talk to me about whose blood is on whose hands.Edgar grabs the soul shard from Reina and shoves it into Hicklod's hands. "You got what you came for. Congratulations!". He snarled. "I told you already to leave the shards as it is but you won't listen. Tell those three when there is a meeting again. Leave me out of this.Edgar reluctantly exchanges the info about the new world order. He and his students head back toward the village."Sensei, why did you agree to help them in the first place.?" Ray asked."I'm sorry, I didn't tell you before. Isrean blackmailed me." Edgar answered.The three gasped."Is it true?" Reid asked.Edgar nods. "He said that he will seize my house. I said that I don't care. Then he threatens to me that he will frame me and separate you three."Ray clenched his fist. "What did Ernest have a say in this? Doesn't he have the power in Fepusa? Why is this Isrean using his power in Fepusa?""Ernest was in this too."Reina and Reid were shocked."I knew that Leafeon wasn't a goody two shoes." Ray commented."Sensei. How about we spend our time here? We don't know if we will get a chance to visit this place again." Reina suggested."You know what? Chapter 9: The Legendary Sword

Edgar and his students decided to spend some time away from Olisberg Village for a change. They rented a room in a Sandy Huntress inn. They go out to explore the Dhaschill Village finding various shops in the market area. A particular museum caught their attention. A swords and other weapons museum."Sensei, we have to visit this place. I have never seen weapons in person." Reid insisted.Edgar agrees and the others follow behind him.Weapons like swords, axes and war hammers were placed on display. The museum was mostly empty there were only a few visitors."Sensei did you use any weapons?" Reina asked."My conjured bone staff is enough for me. But some of the soldiers in my units did use swords." Edgar answered.The trio saw a large display that had a unique sword. The description plate said that it was a legendary sword of water."What does the legendary sword of water even means?" Reid asked."It's probably fake, it's to draw out more visitors." Ray saidA Quagsire cleared his throat. "You are right! The museum owner exclaimed. But totally wrong. This is a replica of a legendary sword of water.""Legendary sword of water? Have you been drinking early morning?" Ray asked."No, he is telling the truth. The legendary swords do exist. There is one in the Fepusa capital. They have a legendary sword of fire and I have seen it in action." Edgar said."Finally, someone who knows something. Oh, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Talinzo and I'm the owner of this museum. Long ago there were eighteen swords forged. Each sword was given a different type of power. Like the water sword will use water type move and fire one will be able to give fire type move. There is very little knowledge about where these artifacts came from or who forged them.""What would a normal type sword be like?" Reina asked."I bet It would be like just a normal sword we see here. Same with steel type sword." Ray chuckled.Talinzo got angry at Ray's comment. "I see that you still don't believe me. As I said there is very limited knowledge about this. If you still don't believe me I can tell you the location of the sword of water. So that you can see it with your own eyes.""If you knew where this sword is then why didn't you keep the original in the museum?" Reina asked."The sword is protected by an Ursaring. I hired many treasure hunters to claim it but none of them were able to defeat it. You folks look strong, especially you, Lucario. I will even pay you for that if you retrieve it for me.""I refuse. I don't take requests for fees. However, I am intrigued to see another legendary sword. We will do it for free." Edgar said."Thank you." Talinzo bowed. "The mystery dungeon is not that far away. Follow me." He takes the replica sword and takes it with him."Why are you taking the replica with you." Edgar asked."I would like to see how different it would be. I made it as closer to what description I had." Talinzo replied.As Talinzo steps out of the museum he bumps into a Donphane who was accompanied by a Linoone and a Karrablast. "Hey, watch where you are going." Talinzo yelled. Ah, it's you three. Good thing I met you here. I no longer need your service. You can keep the advance I paid you. Farewell.The Donphane blocked the museum owner's path. "Hey, what's this about?""I found someone better for the job and they are willing to do it for free. Like I said you can keep the advance as compensation.""Is that so? Then we have decided to find it first and keep that sword for ourselves.""Good luck trying to find the sword without my information." Talinzo laughed.
Hollowed Rock, Dhaschill Dessrt, Dalonton Nation, 27 April Year 1468
Four kilometers away from Dhaschill village is a Hollowed Rock mystery dungeon. Talizo leads Edgar and his students into a mystery dungeon. The three treasure hunters followed after them."Ever been to a mystery dungeon?" Talinzo asked."I have been into many mystery dungeons." Edgar said"This is our second one." Reid said."We are being followed." Ray saidThey look around to see the treasure hunters from before behind them"Hey, why are you following us?" Talinzo yelled."We just decided to visit this mystery dungeon. Is there a rule that we can't go into one?"Let them follow we can't forcefully remove someone just because they followed us. I don't think they will cause any trouble."

The mystery dungeon had a sandy terrain almost desert-like. Few ground-type Pokemon noticed the group. Five Geodude charged at the group.Two Geodude rolled towards Edgar. He fires an Aura Sphere and knocks out one.A Geodude uses Rock Throw at Talinzo. Ray jumps in and uses Force Palm to divert the attack.Another Geodude attacks Reid and Reina. The Geodude rolls at the two of them. Reina uses her psychic power to stop Geodude's attack. Reid finishes off with two karate chops.The last Geodude attack the treasure hunters. Their leader Donphan uses Defence Curl to protect against a Tackle attack. The Donphan switches to Ice Fang and freezes Geodude. A Rollout followed by finishes the rock type.Ray continues to fight his opponent. Ray attacks with Force Palm. The Geodude tanks with Defense Curl. Talinzo fires a powerful water gun and Ray follows it up with Force Palm."Still got the moves!" Talinzo said to himself. He looks at Edgar and finds out he has defeated the last Geodude.
Final floor
The final floor was a plane land with desert sand. At the center was a rocky area. An Urasing was resting on it. Rocky steps lead to a high ground where a sword was put on display"There it is!" Talinzo exclaimed.The three treasure hunters rushed towards the sword."Hey wait!" Talinzo shouted. The others followed behind them.Just as the Donphan was about to step on the rocky surface. The Ursuring guarding the sword roared. The ground type took a step back."Hey what do you think you are doing? We were here first." Talinzo raised his voice."We came to this area first." Donphan said."We also helped defeat feral Pokemons." The Linonne said."We defeated more feral than you." Ray rebutted."You had more members." The Karrablast pointed."Calm down both of you." Edgar intervened. "That Ursaring is not going to let us take the sword without a fight. So we should take our turns trying to take the sword. Any problem with that? I'll flip a coin. The winner gets to decide who goes first.""No, we agree." Donphan said."But we… ok fine." Ray reluctantly agreed.Edgar tosses a coin."I'll take heads." The Donphane said."Tails for me." Ray said.The coin spins and lands. It's heads."I'll go first." The Donphane said.As soon as the treasure hunter leader stepped on rocky terrain the Ursaring roared. The treasure gulped. He knew there was no backing down now.The Ursaring charged with a slash attack. The Donphane shielded himself using Defense Curl.The treasure hunter grunted. "I didn't think this Pokemon would be that strong." He switched to rollout and charges."He is using rollout already?" The Karrablast commented"Put some faith in him, He knows what he is doing." said the Linnone."Using rollout would leave him defenseless against a counterattack." Ray commented.The treasure hunter hits the Ursaring but it seems to be barely hurt by it. The Donphane charges with a second rollout. The Ursaring uses Hammer Arm to smash the ground type to the ground. The normal type attacks with a Slash. The Donphan uses Defense Curl but it was futile.Donphane uses Ice Fang and it freezes Ursaring, The treasure hunter charges hyper beam and fires at the hibernator pokemon.The treasure hunter pants. The move consumed a lot of energy.The ice around the Ursaring cracks and it breaks free. It charges toward the ground type and hits him with Hammer Arm. The Donphane was sent flying across the sand. The Ursaring goes back to rest.The treasure hunter's friend rushes towards him.'Boss are you ok." cried the Karrablast."I'm fine." The Donphane assured. "I give up. Lucario you can have your turn."Edgar nodded "You fought well. I'll go""Wait! I'll do it." Ray intervene"Are you sure about it?" Edgar asked. "That Ursaring is strong.""I'm sure about it. I just want to see how far I have come. Last time we barely managed to defeat the bandit lieutenant."Edgar nods. "Go for it. If things get bad ill bail you.""Sensei you can't be serious about letting him go." Reina showed her concern."No ray has decided and I'm not stopping him now."Ray steps on the rocky area surrounding the sword. The Ursaring roared and charged at him."That Ursaring has odd behavior. For some reason, it seems to be attached to the sword. He only attacks when someone gets closer to it." Reid commented."There must be a reason it is protecting that sword. We may find more information above." Talinzo added.The Ursaring uses Slash but Ray simply dodges and counters with Quick Attack. The Ursuring barely budged from it. The Ursaring switches to Hammer Arm. Ray dodges and counters with Force Palm. The Ursaring staggers."That seems to be doing some damage." Ray said to himself.Ray jumps in for another force palm but the Ursaring grabs Ray's hand and slams him onto the ground."Ray!" Reina cried.The Ursaring tosses ray in the air and hits him with Hammer Arm. Ray falls on the rocky area. He is unable to move because that hit knocked the wind out of him.The Ursaring walks towards ray."Help him!" Talinzo cried."Not yet." Edgard saidThe Ursaring charges his Hammer Arm and prepares to hit ray. Ray dodges at the last moment.Ray closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Alright, my turn."Ray makes ten to twenty copies of himself confusing his opponent. It was Double Team.The Ursuring attacked Ray with Slash but it was just an afterimage. Suddenly the real body of ray sneaks in and attacks with Force Palm. Ray repeats this many times.Frustrated the Ursaring uses Hammer Arm on a nearby boulder. The impact causes the debris from the boulder to scatter everywhere. Which causes Ray's clones to vanish. The Ursaring sees ray and charges at him with another hammer arm."Uh oh!" Ray dodges and climbs on the normal types. He jumps and uses Force Palm from both of his hands. Making a direct hit on Ursuring's head. The Ursaring drops to its knees and falls to the ground unconscious.Ray pants. "Finally it's done."The others rush by Ray's side."Ray, are you okay?" Reina asked."I think I'll be fine." Ray looks towards the sword. "Now back to the reason we came here for.""I think you deserve to be the one who gets it first." Talinzo said."Wait! You cheated." Cried the Karrablast. "The only reason you were able to beat that Ursaring Is because our boss weakened it first.""Stop! It's okay. I admit that even if I didn't go first you would still be able to defeat it. You won fair and square."Ray nods and turns his attention toward the sword. He climbs the stairway. He grabs the sword and pulls it out. He examines it and water starts to flow from the tip of the blade. It magically vanishes at the guard. He points it down and water starts flowing from the guard and disappears at the tip."Fascinating!" Ray thought to himself. He swings the sword in the air. A blade of water is fired at a rock unknown to Ray the blade of water cuts clean through it."How did you do it." Reid asked"I don't know I swear.""Stop swinging that sword in the air, now! Edgar yelled."Sorry I'll stop doing that before someone gets hurt.""He must have tapped into the power of the legendary sword without knowing it. See do you believe now that the legendary swords do exist?" Talinzo asked."Alright, I do agree. Sorry about what I said earlier." Ray turns around and sees a grave of some Pokémon. The grave seems to be dug out by Pokémon who doesn't know dig move."Hey, there is something you have to see." Ray calls everyone.Edgar looks at the grave. "Odd place to bury someone. My intuition says that this grave is off the sword owner.""Maybe that Ursaring was protecting the grave and not the sword." Reina added."Could be but we shouldn't be here too long. Who knows when that Ursaring will wake up?" Reid suggested."I agree." Talinzo said."Wait! Talinzo, can you give me that replica sword? You won't need that any longer do you? Ray interrupted."Sure, I don't know what you want it for. Talinzo shrugged and hands it to Ray.He puts the replica back where the real sword was."Why did you do that for?" The Donphane asked."I feel bad for taking it away from the Ursaring. Who knows how long it has protected it."Edgar looks at ray proudly "I'm proud of you Ray."
Museum of Dhaschil Village,

Ray hands the sword to Talinzo. "Here, take care of it.""I will. All thanks to you. I finally have the legendary sword of water. With this, my museum will be more famous than ever. You four are welcome to stay anytime you want." Talinzo expressed his gratitude."I would love to but we have to go back to our rooms." Edgar refused."Come on sensei you really want to go to that boring rooms." Reid said."Please will you at least have dinner with us?" Talinzo agreed."Ok fine." Edgar agreed."Yes!" Chapter 10: Heir To The Clan Part I

Sandy Huntress Inn, Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 1 May Year 1468

Early in the morning, Edgar went out to take a walk. When he returned to the inn he heard a commotion. The inn owner, some staff and some customers have surrounded a timid female Zorua.
The owner was yelling loudly at the Zorua. Zorua was scared and confused. She was on the brink of tears.
"Did you really think that you could steal from me without getting noticed? Don't give me sad eyes, I don't pity you."
"Come on, let her go, it's just an apple she stole." One of the patrons felt sympathy.
"We should turn her to the authority that will teach her a lesson. Who knows what else she might steal later." One of the staff said.
"Please don't do that I beg of you." Zorua pleaded.
"I don't care if you either repay the loss or I turn you in." The owner yelled.
A Houndoom jumps in and snarls at the owner. He quickly gets between the Zorua and the owner.
"How dare you talk to Lady Sayako like that." He turns towards the Zorua. Lady Sayako, you don't need to cry anymore while I am here." He turns back to the owner. "I'll burn you to a crisp if you hurt her anymore."
"Who are you?" One of the staff asked.
"I am Takeshi Lady Sayako's bodyguard."
"Well, then mister knight in shining armor pay me back the stolen food and I'll let the little lady go." The owner said.
"What? Lady Sayako you didn't…"
The young Zorua burst into tears. "I'm sorry. I was very hungry and I couldn't bear it anymore. I know you told me to wait a little bit I'm sorry"
"Oh lady Sayako, I should be the one to apologize, not you." He turns his attention towards the owner. "Just give me some time, I'll make it up to you somehow."
"Being polite won't save you now."
Edgar couldn't bear it anymore. He interrupted the inn owner. "Hey, how about you let her go? I'll pay you now." Edgar shows him a bag of coins.
The inn owner was caught off guard. "I… I can't take this. I can't take it from someone else. Just take her away before I change my mind."
Edgar nods. "Thank you."
Edgar invites Sayako and her bodyguard to his room. Zorua stopped crying. Edgar also offered the two of them some food. The Zorua chomped on the food like this was her last meal. Then she realized that she was not alone.
She looks at Edgar confused. Thank you, kind sir, for offering me food and saving me. I don't know how to repay you.
Edgar chuckled. "There is no need for you to repay me. If you need more don't hesitate."
Edgar saw a smile on Sayako. "Sayako, can you tell me about yourself? How did you get into this situation?" Edgar asked.
"My name is Sayako Okano. I'm from the Okano clan. We are a clan of only Zoroark and Zorua. My village Yukiyama is in the southern region of Tralanea. My father-"
Before Sayako could continue, Edgar's three students walked in.
"Sayako meet my students. That Riolu is Ray."
Ray looked at her with a blank expression.
"The Machop's name is Reid."
Reid smiled and said. "Hey!"
"And finally the Meditite is Reina."
Reina smiled cheerfully. "Hi there."
Takeshi makes a silent gesture to Edgar which says meet me outside.
"Alright, you three keep Sayako company while me and Takeshi talk to the owner."
Edgar and Takeshi found a quiet spot outside the inn.
"I thank you for all that you have done. I hate to say this but I need one more favor. Will you help me and Lady Sayako get back to our village?"
"That I will do but there is more to the story. Tell me about it" Edgar asked.
"There was an assassination. The clan leader Shihei Okano Sayako's father was found dead in his room. Lady Sayako was the first one to witness. I can't imagine what went through her then."
"Then some assassin came in and tried to kill Lady Sayako but we were there to save her. Hiroshi, Lady Sayako's second bodyguard, was wounded. He is in a nearby hospital as we speak."
"I see, we will visit your friend later, let's see how Sayako is doing."
The duo head back to the inn. They enter the room. To their surprise, Sayako and the others were playing around. Sayako was giggling and laughing.
Takeshi gasped seeing Sayako being herself.
"What's wrong?" Edgar asked.
"I have never seen Lady Sayako be so happy. All the time in the village she was told what to do and how to behave. It's the first time she is being herself." Takeshi replied.
"Lady Sayako, come with me. We are going to visit Hiroshi."
Sayako's expression suddenly turned sad.
The group visited the hospital where Hiroshi was. Hiroshi was resting. Sayako came in with teary eyes.
"Hiroshi please tell me you are ok. I don't know what I'll do if something bad happens to you. It's all my fault it's it?"
The Machoo simply shakes his head.
"Lady Sayako, none of this is your fault." Takeshi looks around. "Reina was it? Why don't you take Lady Sayako and head to the inn?"
"Umm… Ok" Reina replied.
Reina leaves with Sayako.
Takeshi turns his attention to Hiroshi. "Are you feeling better now?"
Hiroshi nods.
"Don't worry now we will go home safe. With help of Edgar of course. Meet Edgar, he saved Sayako from some trouble."
"I hope you recover as soon as possible. Takeshi told me how bravely you fought for Sayako."
"I don't mean to be rude but is he always so quiet." Ray interrupted.
"He can't speak anymore because he lost his ability to speak due to an injury to his throat."
Ray noticed the scar around his throat. "I'm sorry, I didn't know that."
"We should let him rest. You two go back to the room. Me and Takeshi will have to plan this."
Edgar and Takeshi met in private.
Takeshi's expression turns grim. "I didn't tell you this before. I think now is the best time. I suspect that it was Lord Hiroji Lord Shihei's younger brother and Lady Sayako's uncle who planned to assassinate Lord Shihei."
"How did you come to that conclusion?" Edgar asked.
"Lord Hiroji always envied Lord Shihei when he became clan leader. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but I overheard an argument between the two. Then Lord Hiroji disappeared for a week. Then there was an assassination. Do you think the connection was just a coincidence?"
"Let's just say hypothetically what you say is true. How are you going to prove it was him?" Edgar said. "Without any evidence linking to this Hiroji person no one will believe you. Your words mean nothing if you don't have anything to back them up. The clan members will lose trust in you."
"Yes, you're right. I know I'm asking you for too much but will you help me? Everything is happening so fast I don't know what to do."
"I didn't mean to demoralize you. I just don't want you to make a mistake. Yes, I'll help you. You said that Hiroji hired some assassins, correct? That means he will send someone after you three to complete the job. Don't worry I'll stay awake for today and keep an eye out."

Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 2 May Year 1468

At night Edgar remained vigilant. He kept an eye out for anyone suspicious. A lone figure walked through the village road towards the inn. Edgar sensed his hostile aura. Edgar jumped in.
"You seem to be lost, where are you going?"
"Yes, I'm looking for my Zorua friend." The Pawnaird lied.
"Sorry, but I didn't see any Zorua today."
'That's fine, can I get some rest at the inn?"
"Sorry, we are full at the moment."
"No problem, I can sleep on the floor."
Edgar sighs. "Why don't you drop the act? We both know why you are here."
The Pawnaird smirked. "Subtlety is not my strong forte, this is even better." The Pawnaird attacked with Metal Claw.
Edgar simply stopped it with his hand.
"Who sent you? Who do you work for?" Edgar asked.
The Pawnaird spins and escapes Edgar's grip. He circles around Edgar and attacks with Night Slash. Edgar easily sidesteps it.
The Pawnaird again attacks with Metal Claw. This time Edgar parries it with Bone Rush and hits him with it.
Edgar noticed that the Pawnaird was quick but not quick enough to get past his reflex. The Pawnaird again attacks with Metal Claw. Edgar simply sidesteps again but this time he Attacks with Force Palm sending the dark type flying toward a house building.
The Pawnaird was getting frustrated. He charged once more with Night Slash. Edgar leaps into the air and conjures a bone staff for Bone Rush attack. As he lands then he slams the bone staff directly on the Pawnaird's head.
Edgar backed up a few steps and began charging Aura Sphere. The Pawnaird was resilient and was not going down without a fight. He again charges with Night Slash. The Pawnaird moved around to confuse Edgar. With his keen eyes, Edgar saw where the Pawnaird was coming from. He unleashed the charged Aura Sphere which made direct contact with the dark type. The Pawnaird hits the ground and goes unconscious.
Ray, Reid and Takeshi came out bursting through the door. The inn owner along with the worker and some guests also followed. Few village people also gather around.
"What happened here?" Takeshi asked.
"This Pawnaird was attempting to assassinate Sayako." Edgar answered.
"We should interrogate him." Takeshi suggested.
"It's no use they are loyal to their cause. He won't say a word." Edgar replied.
"What's going on here who is this Pawnaird and what are you two talking about?" The inn owner asked.
"It would be better if you didn't know any of this. You don't want to be any part of this trust me. I know it's not easy for me to say but I suggest you forget about this and go to sleep." Edgar tried to calm the crowd.

"So? You are giving me excuses now. I paid you a lot for a simple task and you can't accomplish it?"
"You don't know who this Edgar is? He could single-handedly wipe out my whole mercenary band. He fought in the war. I'm not taking this risk for this much money."
"Am I supposed to be impressed by him? I don't pay you to compliment my enemy." He tosses a coin bag towards the Krookodile. "Fine, here you go."
The Krookodile's expression changes. "I'll never let them step in Trallanea nation you have my word."
"Stop making big talk and get to work."

Dhaschill Village, Dalonton Nation, 2 May Year 1468

Early in the morning, the group woke up before the sunrise. The group was ready to head to the Trallanea region. The group walked towards the village exit. Edgar stopped them.
"We are not traveling in a large group that will draw a lot of attention towards us. Ray and Takeshi will lead ahead and keep an eye out if there is any trouble ahead of us. Me, Reina and Sayako will follow behind. Reid and Hiroshi will be just behind us in case things get too bad. Got it?"
Everyone nodded to that.

Yukiyama Village, Trallanea
Nation, 2 May Year 1468

The group reached the village. Everyone was shocked to see Sayako again. Hiroji saw Sayako and gritted his teeth. He was accompanied by a Krookadile. The clan elder came to greet Sayako.
The old Zoroark hugged Sayako. "Where were you? I was so worried about you. Things have been getting worse for the clan since Shehei was murdered. I see that Takeshi and Hiroshi protected you well."
The clan elder looks at Edgar and his students. "Takeshi, did you forget that outsiders are not allowed in the village?"
Takeshi bowed his head. "No my lord, they are the reason we came back here alive. Edgar and his students protected Sayako and kept her safe."
"Oh! I'm sorry for jumping to a conclusion. From all of us in this clan, you have my gratitude."
"Sayako it's good to see you again." Hiroji interrupted. "I was really worried about you. I can't imagine what you are going through right now. I swear I'll do whatever I can to find the killer."
"Uncle!" Sayako started crying and then hugged her uncle.
Takeshi gritted his teeth but Edgar calmed him down.
Hiroji turns his attention to Edgar. "Thank you for helping Sayako but I'm afraid I can't let you stay here any longer."
"Wait!" Sayako interrupted. "He has saved my life. We can't just send them away. Please stay with us for a few days. I also made three new friends." She looks at Hiroji. "Please."
"Hiroji, we should make an exception for Edgar and his company." The clan elder suggested.
"Fine, I'll allow you to stay for a few days." Hiroji reluctantly agreed.
Later at night Edgar and Takeshi gathered to discuss the plan. They choose a secluded place where no one would hear them.
"I'm glad that Hiroji let you stay. Even if it was reluctantly. We need to find the evidence as quickly as possible and I don't think I can do this without you." Takeshi said.
"Calm down, I know what I must do. We need to investigate Shihei's room first and then Hiroji's room."
"The first thing can be easily done. It would be difficult to get into Lord Hirojhi's room."
"You still call him lord?" Edgar questioned.
"It's become a habit. Anyway even if we try to get in when he is not around his bodyguard will still be there."
