Home is where your family is
Home is where your family is“You can’t be serious, Takashi! After all you went through—we went through!” Adam’s voice trembled with both anger and fear.Luna flinched, pressing her hands over her ears as her body shook. She held back a sob, though tears already lined her cheeks. Her loyal pet, Mascha, snuggled closer, resting her small head against Luna’s leg in quiet comfort.“It’s different now, Adam! The Galra are defeated, and it’s safer out there!” Takashi argued, his tone more frustrated than reassuring.“It’s not safe! IT’S SPACE, TAKASHI! There will always be dangers—strange planets with toxic gases, monstrous aliens, unexplored sectors!” Adam’s voice broke, a mixture of fear and rage. “You were captured before. You died out there! Do you really want to risk that again?”Takashi looked frustrated but determined. “I’ll have Allura and Lotor with me—I won’t be alone. You’re being irrational!”“Being with a group didn’t save you before!” Adam’s voice was raw with emotion. “You’re talking about leaving for more than half a year! Leaving me! Leaving us! Have you thought about what that would do to Luna? You have a family—a responsibility! Do you even care about us?!”“Of course I do! I love you, and I love Luna!” Takashi's voice softened, though a hard edge remained. “But this mission is important. And you know Luna would want to come with me if she could.”Luna flinched again. Her father wasn’t wrong; she would gladly follow him on this journey if he asked her. But deep down, she also knew Adam was right. Even without the Galra, space was a dangerous place, and the fear of losing her father haunted her.Luna had heard enough. She grabbed her phone and called the one person she knew would understand.A few minutes later, Luna sat curled up in Keith’s living room, wrapped in a blanket, a warm mug of hot chocolate in her hands. Lance was beside her, rubbing comforting circles on her back while Keith was on the phone with Adam, explaining that she was safe and would stay with them for the night.“You feeling better?” Lance asked gently. His kind smile eased the ache in Luna’s heart.Luna nodded, glancing up at him. “Yeah…a little.”“How bad was the fight?”“Really, really bad,” Luna whispered, leaning into him. “I love them so much, Lance. They’re my home. I don’t want to lose them again.”Lance hugged her tighter, his voice low and comforting. “You won’t, sweetie. Adam and Shiro love you and each other too much to let this tear them apart. They’re just…stubborn, that’s all. Everything will be fine. And if they keep fighting, I’ll take you to Cuba and keep you all to myself.”Luna managed a small smile. “Thanks, Lance. I love you.”“I love you too, sweetheart,” he murmured, stroking her hair until she relaxed.Keith returned and settled beside them, a gentle look on his face. “I talked to Adam. I told him you’re here, and that you’ll stay the night so they can have some time to cool down.” He gave her a reassuring smile. “They also wanted me to tell you that they love you and they’re sorry for everything.”“Thank you, Keith. Sorry for keeping you up…” Luna murmured.Keith shook his head and tousled her hair. “Don’t be silly. We’re family. I’ll always be here if you need me.” He wrapped his arm around her, and a smile crept across Luna’s face as she snuggled close. Feeling safe, she drifted off to sleep, wrapped in the warmth of those she loved. The next morning, Luna awoke to the soft light of dawn and the quiet rise and fall of Lance’s breathing beside her. She slipped out of his arms, pressing a gentle kiss on his cheek before padding into the kitchen, where she overheard her father and Keith talking.“Thanks for looking out for her, Keith. I don’t know what we’d do without you and Lance,” Shiro’s voice was thick with gratitude.“Of course. Luna needed it—Lance was able to calm her down, but she was really upset.” Keith’s voice softened. “Did you decide, Shiro?”“Yeah,” Shiro replied after a pause. “Adam’s right. My life here, with my family, is more important. You and Lance should take this mission instead.”Luna exhaled, relief flooding her. Her father had chosen to stay with them.As she was about to enter the kitchen, a small weight suddenly landed on her shoulder, making her shriek.“Mascha! You little brat, don’t scare me like that!” she hissed, laughing softly at her pet’s antics.“Luna?” She turned to find Adam in the doorway, his face filled with concern.“Papa!” Luna dashed forward, wrapping her arms around him. He scooped her up in a tight hug, pressing a kiss to her forehead.“Princess, I’m so sorry. We didn’t mean to scare you.”“Papa, you’re squishing me!” Luna giggled, but her smile widened. “It’s okay. I’m glad you’re not fighting anymore. I was just…scared.”Shiro joined them, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry, Luna. You’re right—we should be focusing on our family. You and Adam are what matters most to me.”She hugged him tightly. “I’m just glad you’re staying, Dad.”Keith poked his head into the kitchen, a smirk on his face. “Is everything settled now? Because, just so you know, there are way too many people in my house.”“Oh, admit it, Keith! You just want some alone time with Lance!” Luna grinned mischievously, watching Keith turn pink.He crossed his arms with a huff. “I just want some peace.”Luna walked up to him and gave him a warm hug, gazing up with a smile. “Thank you, Keith. You’re like the big brother I’ve always wanted. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”Keith softened, hugging her back. “You’re family too, Luna. You can count on me, always.”“Oh, look at that,” Lance teased as he wandered into the kitchen. “Did Luna finally manage to bring out the softer side of Mr. Mullet?”Keith glared at him. “Shut up, Lance! You’re ruining a bonding moment!”“Oh, sure, I’m the one ruining it.” Laughter filled the kitchen, light and comforting, and Luna’s heart soared. After everything, she knew she had the best family she could ever wish for, and she wouldn’t trade them for anything in the universe. They were her home, her world—and she’d never felt safer or more loved.
