Of all the troubles Jeongguk had gotten into since he was ten, this was, by far, the worst one. He woke up in complete darkness with a dull headache, his eyes forced closed by a thick cloth wrapped around his head, and his body bound to a chair with thick ropes tightly keeping his arms together behind him and his feet on the legs of the chair. He wriggled a little, testing the strength of the ropes. “Stop moving”Jeongguk stopped at the booming voice that echoed in the room. Judging by the way it resounded, the room was pretty small.“What if I don’t wanna?” he smirked. What felt like a fist quickly slammed against his cheek causing him to fall sideward. “Ow that hurt” he coughed. The person who punched him, grabbed him by the arms and settled him back upright. The left leg of the chair wobbled as it landed on the floor. Jeongguk wriggled some more.He heard an annoyed groan and another hit caused him to fall back.“Stop moving or the boss won’t have much of you to come back to” the man had threatened. This made Jeongguk smile wickedly and start swaying the chair side to side. Another impact caused him to fall back and break the legs of the chair fully. He quickly rolled away, avoiding the man coming at him. He heard the footsteps getting loud and heavy towards him and he swiftly jumped to his feet. As the ropes around his feet fell off, he swung a leg towards the direction of the man’s footsteps and hit him right at the stomach. He listened to the man fall on his knees. He swung his other leg over the man’s shoulder then tightened his thighs around his neck. The man grabbed at his legs and tried to pull them away from him. Jeongguk strengthened his grip even more then forced his body weight forward to flip the guy over. At the struggle, the man pulled off the blindfold. Everything was a blur too bright to picture but Jeongguk saw the bleary image of a big, bald, muscular man coming at him with a weapon he couldn’t quite see. He dodged over and over, stalling till his eyesight became clear. “Damn man, you’re such a poor henchman” he spat as he ran to the wall. He planted his foot on it and used it as leverage to push his body to flip over the man. The man collided with the wall and dropped on the floor unconscious.Jeongguk let out a breath as he twisted and turned his arms to loosen the ropes keeping his arms behind him. It took quite a few tugs before he was finally free. “That was not as fun as the movies make it to be”, he rubbed his wrists to get the blood flowing back to his hands. He stepped over the unconscious henchman and searched through his pockets for any kind of weapon. He let out a small victory squeak as he took the man’s gun from his holster then put it in his.The door clicked open and another henchman poked his head through the door. Before he could say anything, Jeongguk quickly grabbed the dagger from the man on the floor and threw it directly at the other guy’s forehead. He fell forward with a thump, keeping the door ajar.“That’s going to be a bitch to clean, sorry” Jeongguk mumbled to no one in particular as he stepped over the man’s bloody head to leave the room. “Now to find that overpriced shot glass”. The hallway was surprisingly empty and Jeongguk found it eerily suspicious. He was just caught trying to swipe the piece for a black market auction and they only have two guys watching him? Either they underestimated him or they had really shitty security.“HEY!” Jeongguk turned around and saw two men pointing their guns at him, “What are you doing here?”Great, they didn’t even tell the other henchmen that he was there. He ran towards them, catching them off guard, and knocked them both down by the neck. He hit one on the head with the butt of his gun then broke the neck of the other to keep them down.Jeongguk stared down. “This guy might be almighty but his henchmen suck” he commented. He walked on and encountered some people along the way. Some who knew he was trouble, others who didn’t. It had probably been an hour before he found a fancy door with two guards standing on each side. “Hey guys” he called out. Both huge armored men pointed their guns at him. He raised his arms and took one slow step after another towards them. “Boss needs you guys at the fifth floor. The captive got out” he said.“You?” one of them said. “Oh cool, you know me” Jeongguk said as he shot at both of them. The gun clicked but didn’t go off. A soft ‘fuck’ left his lips. He threw the gun aside and grinned boyishly. The armored guys charged at him, guns blazing. A couple bullets grazed his sides and his arms but he was lucky enough to avoid most of them. He slipped under them and knocked their heads together. It got them disoriented long enough for him to kick one of their guns away from them. He fought hard but the men were much tougher than the previous ones.“WHY” punch “DON’T” punch “YOU” kick “JUST” punch “DIE” he exclaimed as he swung his fists and his feet at them. He breathed hard and heavy at every dodge and hit. His body was getting sore. Sweat was dripping from his forehead and blood was staining his shirt. He leaned on the wall for a second to avoid the rifle pointed at him. He pushed the muzzle to face the other man and pulled the trigger. As the bullet hit one henchman, the recoil hit the other square on the nose. They both fell and Jeongguk slumped against the wall; his chest heaving, his arms weighed down on his sides, and his legs ready to buckle under him. He wants to take a break but he forced himself up. With all the ruckus they’ve caused, someone was bound to come up and check on them. He didn’t have much time. He had to grab the glass and get out of there.Jeongguk pushed the doors open and found a library full of books and things that probably cost more than what he’s worth. Along the line of ancient daggers, laid a shot glass with a gold rim and tiny diamonds embedded around the bottom sitting on a small chest filled with a soft red velvet interior. He shut it close and shoved it in the side pocket of his cargo pants. He quickly ran out of the room and bumped into the big boss.“It’s you” the man in the fancy three-piece suit stood proud and intimidating over him. “You notorious little treasure hunter, robin-hood-wannabe. I was wondering when I was going to meet you”“Bad guys talk about me?” Jeongguk squared his shoulders and lifted his chin. He took a step back every time the man stepped forward. He let his hand glide against the rack of treasure.“You find that so amusing don’t you, Jeon Jeongguk?” the man pulled out the gun under his coat and pointed it straight at his forehead. “And you, Mr. Smith, you just love your ancestors, don’t you?” Jeongguk smiled innocently, “So you do as they did and claim what is of other nations”“You little shit” Mr. Smith released the safety on his .45 and pulled the trigger just as Jeongguk ducked. He slid two daggers off the rack and dug them deep into Mr. Smith’s sides. He pulled it out and ran before the man could drop to the floor. He jumped out the nearest window and climbed down the ledge.“We’re almost there.” he uttered under his breath. He moved slowly along the ledges, careful not to raise any more suspicions. But the sudden blaring alarm was a huge giveaway. He jumped off the ledge and grabbed onto the pipe to slide down. A bunch of security chased and shot at him. “Fuck fuck fuck, hyung where are you?” he hid behind the pillar and tapped at his watch. He snuck around the mansion heading over to the courtyard to wait for his partner in crime. Who should definitely pop up any second now.A huge explosion blasted near him and he ran. Bullets flew at him. Some only barely missing him. “Where the fuck is he?” he groaned, clutching his arm. He ran towards the front of the mansion and bumped into a henchman. He jolted the gun off the man’s hand. He picked it up and shot him on the leg. He then ran out to the courtyard, shooting at the men he encountered. The bad guys seemed to multiply every time he shot one down. He raised his arm again to shoot at an oncoming bad guy but his gun didn’t fire. He swore under his breath and threw the gun at the man’s head instead. At that moment, a black sedan screeched into the courtyard. Jeongguk bolted towards it and swung the back door open.“WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG SEOKJIN-HYUNG? I ALMOST DIED!” he yelled at the driver.Seokjin drifted the car around and drove out as fast as he could. Henchmen still followed them, shooting at the car.“YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO STEALTHILY STEAL THE THING!” Seokjin screamed at him while skilfully directing the car away from the gunshots.“STOP YELLING AT ME” Jeongguk retorted, “WHERE’S YOUR- AH!” he pulled out the case with the grenades and clicked the sunroof open. He climbed up, bit the pin off and threw the weapon at the following car. He bent down, grabbed another one and did the same. The cars behind them exploded off the road. After what felt like a long chase, Seokjin drove into the freeway and let out a breath. Jeongguk collapsed on the backseat.“I cannot believe you got caught. AND DON’T BLEED ON THE INTERIOR, I have to return this” Seokjin said.“Hyung, I almost died and you’re more worried about me bleeding onto your rented vehicle. Which, by the way, now has bullet holes” Jeongguk bit back.Seokjin ignored him and switched on the radio, “what are you telling him this time?”“A gang fight, I guess” Jeongguk pulled out the box from his pocket and gently threw it on the passenger’s seat. He then leaned his head on the window.---Two days later, all bandaged up and clean, Jeongguk entered his shared apartment.“Hey, I’m home” he called out.A tall lanky guy in glasses sporting only a pair of sweatpants stood at the end of the hallway and looked at him from head to toe. His wide smile simmered to a disappointed frown.“Again?” he said.Jeongguk walked towards him with his arms open, “Really, Namjoon-hyung. I come home beat up and you don’t even kiss me first”. Namjoon gathered him in his arms and gave him a quick peck on the forehead, “Sorry, baby. It’s just- you sure you want to continue being a rescue volunteer? You always come home like you’ve been in a gunfight”Jeongguk let out a nervous laugh. Namjoon led him to the couch and they fell back on it.“Any way, while you were out, somebody sent the missing piece of the Genovian glass collection to the museum! I’m going over on Monday to study it, make sure it’s the real thing and we’ll be meeting the queen to return it’” Namjoon excitedly babbled on as they settled down with Jeongguk lying on Namjoon’s chest.“You know, it’s so weird that someone keeps sending those artifacts to the museum I work at” he continued, stroking Jeongguk’s hair.Jeongguk looked at him then pushed himself up a little capturing Namjoon’s lips in a quick kiss, “yeah… so weird”.
