Work Text
The Dursleys were ordinary and they were happy with that. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley didn’t want to be anything but ordinary. Mrs. Dursley had seen first hand what out of the ordinary looked like. Mr. Dursley had only heard stories, but he was pretty sure that this counted as out of the ordinary. It started that morning with the weather channel reporting on shooting starts in many neighborhoods across England. Next, with the owls that were right out of his house and honestly, they were everywhere, doing nothing but watching. When leaving work he saw more odd things that made his skin crawl. People in robes ranging from emerald green to sapphire blue. From the small walk to work and to his parked car in the lot, he heard the Potter’s name at least five times. Once at work, Mr. Durley thought about the Potters, Mrs. Dursley’s sister and by marriage his in-laws, but he placed the thoughts behind him. It had to be their kind of folks that were in charge of the new crazy, but they were crazy people to start with. He shouldn't lose sleep over any of this. It didn’t concern him.He came home as soon as he got off, trying to avoid any more interesting encounters. The minute he came within arms length to his wife he decided to bring it up.“Er — Petunia have you talked to your sister lately, love. Or has she said anything about,” he paused and carefully laced his words together, “her crowd?” Mr. Dursley watched his wife stiffened at the question. She stopped the dish she was wiping dry to look at him coldly.“No. And thank goodness for that. Why do you even bring her up?” He shuffled in his feet as he darted his eyes away from the glare his wife was giving him. He didn’t know how to respond, as he didn’t have reason on why.“No reason. Just some odd things on the news, but I’m sure it’s nothing. Just crazy people looking too deep into things.” An awkward silence fell between the two as Mrs. Dursley kept her focused on the dishes and Mr. Dursley turned his on the newspaper that he was looking at. Reports of more shooting stars and owls that plagued the country filled the paper’s columns he read. He found himself watching a comedy program before bed to take his mind off things.“About your sister, my dear.” He started again before he turned in for the night. He watched as Mrs. Dursley stiffened once again. “She’s married right? With a baby around Dudley’s age now.” Petunia gave one single nod from her long neck.“Yes. James bloody Potter. One of the freaks she met at her freak-ish school. And she had twins, Vernon. Harry and Scarlett, twins. What a freak, she can’t even have kids correctly.”“Yes,” Her husband agreed and quickly nodded his head, clearly uncomfortable with the next step in the conversation, “I was just wondering if you talked to her recently.”“No and I have no intentions of doing so. She’s fine without me.” Mrs. Dursley snapped at that was the end of it. He never brought it up again.Little did Mr. and Mrs. Dursley know that the Potters were not fine. They weren’t even alive and that is where our story continues. Sirius Black picked through the rubble of what used to be his best friend’s house looking desperately for the bodies of the fallen. He found James’s body first, crumpled on the stairs. His first reaction was to scream, to let his feelings fly, and Remus was quick to join him. Remus was the first to pick himself up when he heard a babble from the next room: the nursery! Remus rushed there, wanting to know the damage caused to the twins. He found the twins in perfect condition looking down at their mother. Lily was in front of the crib, facing the open door. Remus didn’t know how to react. He and Lily were closer than siblings, and losing her was like losing a part of him. His vision blurred as he tried to take a few steps forward.“I’m killing that fucking bastard.” Sirius yelled into the thick air and picked up a lamp on the hallway’s console, only to throw it as hard as he could at the wall. Remus got up and moved swiftly towards his husband, knowing he also was grieving.“Sirius.” He started softly, “I know you are upset, but don’t you think we should focus on the more pressing matter.” Sirius turned sharply at the words.“Don’t you dare tell me what is important. James and Lily are dead! And it’s all because we let Peter take the fucking word away from me. I may have been the most obvious person Lily and James would have chosen but at least I would have died for them. Unlike him, the fucking coward.” Sirius snapped. “I’m going to rip him into pieces. I am going to make sure that no one can even remember his name.” Remus placed on hand on Sirius’ forearm and one around his shoulder.“Lily and James would have wanted us to take in the twins. You know that deep down. We’re their best bet. It’s what they would have wanted.” Sirius set his head on the wall and his body would have slid down to the floor if not for Remus, holding him up. “Besides, if you killed Peter and got caught you would be sent to Azkaban. How would that help this situation?” Sirius sighed, knowing that Remus was right.“Come on. We need to move fast. I don’t want the twins to be here for any longer. They don’t need to remember any of this. They shouldn’t.” Remus nodded his head and went for the twins and used magic to grab a few things he wanted to remember James and Lily Potter by.That is how Dumbledore found the Potter twins, in the hands of their godfathers, who were ready to go back to their own home. He was with Professor Mcgonagall, who traveled in her cat form, now standing tall and firm as a human.“Mr. Lupin and Mr. Black, I thought I’d find you here.” The silence between them was awkward, no one wanted to take the next move.“Yeah, we’re here for the kids, that’s all.” Sirius answered shortly and a little more harshly than he should have. Remus instantly knew this was going to a disaster. He lightly bumped his husband’s shoulder in warning, and Sirius cleared his throat. “Listen, we are just here for the twins. We don’t want any trouble.”“I know and there is where our problems arise. This why we are here as well.” It was Remus’s turn to turn a little hostile, ignoring his own advice that was going off in his head.“Dumbledore, with all respect I think Lily and James both would want us to take the twins. The least you could do is respect them.” Minerva Mcgonagall, knowing both of the men in front of her very well. She had taught them for a large portion of their life.“And we know that, boys. But we have some different plans for the twins that we think Lily would have agreed with.“What different plans?” Remus barked out, and it was Sirius, who had to hold back his husband by his elbow. Dumbledore took a short step forward.“The Dursleys. Harry and Scarlett deserve to be with family. Lily and James would have agreed”“Don’t you dare tell us what Lily and James would have wanted! You never knew them like us. You don’t know what they would have wanted. We are their family. They aren’t, they never have been, not after the way Petunia has treated Lily. Like it or not, they are coming with us.” Sirius spat at the two most powerful wizards in London.“You need to look at the bigger picture. Sirius, you don’t understand what is happening here. Harry and Scarlett are famous from this day forward. They survived a Killing Curse, and got rid of Voldemort. Wizards everywhere will know their names. They need to be raised in a muggle home.”“So? What if I don’t know the whole picture? Honestly I don’t give a shit. Because I know what the Dursley’s are like. And I know what it’s like to live in a family that doesn’t like you, more or less love you. That shit changes you, and not for the better. And I refuse to let it happen to my niece and nephew. They are coming with me.” Sirius counter argued. He would not stand down from this fight. He wouldn’t wish to live in a household like that upon his worst enemy. The elder wizards took a step back, knowing that the stubborn wizard was willing to bring a passion to this fight, that they both couldn’t bring no matter how hard they tried.“Alight, you win the twins now. Stay alert and stay safe, now. We will be in touch,” Dumbledore said and with a flash of light he and Mcgonagall were gone. Remus walked up to Sirius and kissed him lightly.“Do you have any idea on what we just did?” Sirius laughed lightly, beside the circumstances.“I have know idea what I’m doing, but that was cool right?” Remus rolled his eyes and looked back at the house that he would hopefully never have to go to, “Come on let’s go put the twins to bed and let their family’s know.” With yet another flash of light and the street of Privet Drive was just the Dursley’s liked it, ordinary.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The sun was just beginning to rise and the warmth from the light shined on the eleven year old’s back. Scarlett sat up in her bed and stretched her arms forward, soaking in the sun’s warm rays. She pushed open her heavy wooden door that needed the hinges replaced soon, or the door would fall off. It creaked while being opened, alerting her parents she or her brother were awake. The odds of it being Harry were slim, as Scarlett has been the first twin awake since they were little. She over looked the living room that she could see from the hallway on the second floor and jumped. She landed on the couch and rolled off onto the floor.
“Scarlett, how many times have we told you. Don’t jump into the living room, sweetheart. You might hurt yourself.” Remus called from the kitchen that was just a step down from the living room. Scarlett smiled down at her Dad, brushed herself off, and joined him in the kitchen. She used the boiling water to make herself a french pressed coffee, enjoying the cool gray bricked floor on her bare feet, and passed her father, taking the newspaper from his hands as she did.
“God, look at this article by the legend herself, good ol’ Rita Skeeter.” Scarlett said as she handed the paper back to him, just in time for Sirius to come by and sweep it from the hands it belonged to.
“Rita Skeeter? God, doesn’t she have a hobby other than writing and publishing those clearly bullshit articles?” He asked while he leaned forward and took a sip of his husband’s coffee. “It’s over Dumbledore’s attack at the seat of the Minister of Magic. As much as I’m not a fan of Dumbledore, we all know that is not his intentions, fucking hell.” Remus snatched the newspaper back and scolded his husband.
“Sirius, not in front of Scar. I don’t think I can handle her swearing yet, honey.” Scarlett turned and faced the other way, fake gagging at her parents. She looked out the windows and watched the enchanted garden bloom the more sun it had. It was a gift from Remus to Sirius, who had a green thumb when they first moved to this house after taking in the twins. This kind of a morning was normal for this family. Harry slept into the late hours of the morning, Scarlett would have breakfast and could be found in the outside patio, and the parents could be found inside working from home unless it was necessary for them to go into work.
Remus moved on from the newspaper and to the eggs Srirus had made for him and Scarlett, leaving the extra on the stove for Harry when he came down. Scarlett took the eggs and her cup of coffee into the patio that opened up to the yard. She was an artist and this is were the studio took shape. She liked painting a lot of different things, but her favorite were large fantasy landscapes. She painted large ancient buildings and fallen societies. The mysteries behind the people that once were there, and the history of the fallen kept her pleased. Scarlett looked at her large canvas and sighed to herself. She picked up a spare leather scrunchie from her stool, where she had placed her wooden palette she got for her birthday. The patio was a shared place with all of the family members, but her and Pops used it the most. Pops had taught her and Harry how to paint, and how to use different mediums. He liked to use watercolors and loved painting his family. His water colors were under his bench space while her paints were under her easel. Harry didn’t keep painting, but adapted into learning the guitar, a skill Remus was willing to help with. Scarlett kneeled on the bricks that matched the kitchen’s flooring, and pulled her basket that held her acrylics. She pulled the ones she need and mixed together the green she was going to use for the moss growing over the fallen king’s throne room. Just as she started, she noticed an owl fly to the kitchen’s window, holding a letter she and her brother were waiting for. She quickly placed her palette on her stool, and rushed into the living room, just as the bird flew in.
“Harry! Hogwarts!” She shouted, as she came to a halt. There was shuffling followed by footsteps coming down from the stairs, that sounded like a stampede of elephants and then popped in one black mop of hair.
“Really? Give me mine!” Scarlett tossed her brother his letter once the owl was paid and flew swiftly out of the window. Sirius and Remus, who came from the office space, watched their kids quickly read out their letters with a face giving looks of wonder, remembering the first time they got their letter to Hogwarts.
“Pops! Dad! We have to go to London as soon as possible! We need parchment, and quill, and robes, and all of that!” Harry begged his parents, still in his pajamas, unlike the rest of them. Remus gave Sirius an exasperated look and Sirius backed into the kitchen, while whispering in the former’s ear, “This is your fight now, my love. I’ll make some snacks to go.” With two sets of big eyes staring Remus down, one green, one hazel. He couldn’t say no to them.
“Alright. Harry you still need to get dressed, and showers need to be taken by, I’m sure the both of you. Let your Pops make some snacks for the road. We can leave in an hour.” The kids cheered and exactly one hour later, due to the twins constant badgering, they were getting school supplies in Diagon Alley, just like their parents had promised.
The buildings in Diagon Alley made the twins’ heart flutter in amazement. The buildings twisted and turned, levitating in the air. It was right out of a fantasy novel. The colors that covered the walls were bright and gleamed in the warm London sun, the first sunny day in months. Scarlett and Harry both looked up to watch owls with parchment fly back and forth from buildings to buildings. They heard the owls hoot and flap their wings, the cauldrons bubble over as kids disturbed the brew, and watched a shop owner come out of a store with a pile of things floating close behind them. There was magic in the air and the twins could feel its presence in every little thing.
“Look, there is Ollivanders,” Harry whispered to his sister, trying but failing to keep his voice down. Scarlett hit his arm quickly to silence him, but Remus looked behind at the two.
“Not yet, Harry. We have to stop at Gringotts first. Get some money from your,” Remus took a pause before he continued, “school funds.” The twins gave each other a shared look. Both their dads faltered when they spoke when in referencing anything that had to do with their parents — Lily and James Potter. The twins never knew anything about that Halloween night, it wasn’t important to them. Yes, they missed their biological parents, but they never knew them and besides they had parents. They liked it when Dad and Pops told stories of them when they were students at Hogwarts. It made them both so excited to get their own letters.
After a quick stop at Gringotts, the first thing on the school supplies list on robes. It also just happened to be the closest shop to Gringotts.
“Come on you mischievous marauders, uniforms are first on your lists, Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions is on your right,” Sirius called to his twins as he steered them into the store.
“Oh! Sirius and Remus Lupin
-
Black! How are you boys? And oh —look at those two.” Madam Malkin gushed when the said family walked into her shop. “How time flies by! You two must be here to get your first robes. I remember when your parents came in to get their robes. They both were thrilled to have gotten their letters. I’m sure you are too.” Remus and Sirius laughed when Scarlett and Harry both whipped their heads, demanding if that was true. “Now come on, Harry you stand here where another young man is getting a hemming.” Harry followed the instructions of the smiling aging witch while looking back at this sister. Scarlett laughed at her brother’s help-me look before Madam Malkin ushered her into her own little area.
“Hogwarts, too?” The boy that Harry was next to asked. Harry nodded his head and he watched Madam Malkin start taking Scarlett’s measurement. It was her turn to send him, a help-me look.
“Yeah, I’m really excited. My dads told me they had loads of fun when they were in school. They always had detentions, though. They pulled a lot of pranks.” The boy had flaming red hair that seemed untamable, and kept looking down at his hands nervously.
“I might get a detention myself. I have two brothers you see. They tend to get all of the attention because of how much trouble they get into. Last year they stole a broom closet. A whole broom closet. I don’t want to get in trouble because of them. Say, do you have a broom?” The boys asked quickly, as if he was digging a whole for his own thoughts.
“Yeah, my sister and I both have one. Her’s is silver and mine is maroon.”
“Like Gryffindor!” The boy told him and Harry nodded his head excitedly. He really wanted to be in Gryffindor like his Dad and Pops. Scarlett didn’t really mind what house she was in.
“It isn’t up to what you want, Har.”
She would always remind him. That is what made him nervous. What if him wanting to be in another house was a Slytherin trait. He didn’t want to be in Slytherin. The boy’s voice is what slapped Harry out of his thoughts.
“So, do you know what house you’re going to be in?” Harry didn’t like talking about the subject with people other than Scarlett, but he wanted a friend before his first day.
“Honestly, I hope I’m in Gryffindor. My dads were both in Gryffindor. They told me and Scarlett, my sister, that our mother and father were both Gryffindor too.” When the boy gave him a questioning look Harry explained, “My parents were killed when me and Scar were just babes.”
“Wait, you’re Harry Potter? Wow, I mean, I’m sorry.” Harry shrugged his shoulders, like he always did when someone sent him their condolences.
“I didn’t know them. Don’t worry about it. What about you? What house will you be in?” The boy sighed deeply, like the answer to Harry’s question had lore.
“Gryffindor for me too. My whole family has been in Gryffindor. I can’t imagine what I’d do if I was sorted into Hufflepuff or some other house. I really don’t want to be a Slytherin. They say not a single wizard has gone into Slytherin and come out good.”
“Hey! There is nothing wrong with Slytherin!” Scarlett defended as she approached the two, Madam Malkin close behind her. The boy looked at her, eyes widened. “Really? I’m assuming you want to be a Gryffindor just like him.” Scarlett pointed at Harry. She was then silent, taking her time to think before she spoke. “No one can decide what house they are going into. You may have an idea, but you will never truly know until you are sorted. So, until then I think you shouldn’t judge any house.” She hissed at him and the boy leaned closer to Harry.
“She is quite hostile, don’t you think?” He whispered to him, and Harry smiled, knowing he was telling the truth.
“That’s my sister, Scarlett,” Harry whispered back. The boy’s face turned pink out of embarrassment, and stayed still as Madam Malkin got to work on his heming. Sirius walked over to Harry and Scarlett with Remus next to him.
“Har and Scar, your dad and I are all going to head over to the book shop and get all of your books and quills. Meet us at the book and quill shop will ya?” Sirius asked, and Harry nodded his head. Sirius kissed his forehead, “Good kid.” Before he had the chance to leave the shop, an older man with a matching red-mop of hair as the boy Harry was talking to, walked into the shop.
“Well if it isn’t, Sirius Black!” The man greeted familiarly. The twins looked at their pops as he shook the man’s hand.
“Arthur Weasley, that red-headed boy must be Ronald, your last one?” The man quickly reminded him of the other child he had, and Sirius gave him a smile. “What a coincidence, Harry was placed right next to Ron.” Mr. Weasley waved to Harry and Ron, who were talking to each other.
“Harry Potter in the flesh, crazy to think about. Oh, yes, Ron is shorter than his brothers when they were his age, so with the bonus check my department got, I thought I would treat him to good fitted robes.” Sirius then launched into some questions about his department’s bonus checks. This gave Remus the opportunity to come and save Mr. Weasley from Sirius’s nosey tendencies.
The rest of the day went smoothly, the books quills, cauldrons, and anything else the twins needed for school. The last thing on the list was the more anticipated item, a wand. Getting a wand was what Harry and Scarlett were most afraid of. They didn’t know anything about wands or what would happen when they choose the right one. Their dads told them not to worry, that nothing wrong was going to happen, and it isn’t anything to fret over. They weren’t so sure.
Harry and Scarlett found themselves outside of the wand shop. They didn’t want to be outside of the shop alone, but they couldn’t leave the area for when their dads came back from a ‘secret surprise’ as they put it. That gave Harry and Scarlett only one option left, go inside. The shop was the oldest they both had seen so far, and they had been in Diagon Alley all day, exploring the nooks and crannies. The shop made them feel like they were going to enter a strict library. The minute they two walked in, they both felt the magic in the store, it was different than other magic that they had felt before. Scarlett knew what kind of magic this was, she felt it when she painted her scenes, it was an ancient kind of magic. A practice as old as they come.
“May I help you?” A soft voice came from behind a desk. Harry jumped out of his skin the moment he heard the voice. “Sorry I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
“I - don’t worry about it. Me and my sister, we are here for, um, we are here for a wand.” The man chuckled as he got up from his chair and walked over to Harry and his twin.
“This is my wand shop, Mr. Lupin-Black. I hope you do come here for a wand and not an owl. I’ve waited a long time to see you and your sister walk into my shop.” This called the attention of Scarlett, who walked over and joined him.
“Right. I’m sure you have,” Scarlett spoke. The man,
Ollivander, Scarlett presumed walked very close to Harry, getting a better look at him.
“Yes, you have your mother’s eyes. Other than that, you seem to look like your father, glasses and all. It seemed like only yesterday Lily Evans came into my shop to buy her first wand. Ten and a quarter, swishy, made from willow. It went excellent with charm work.” Ollivander took a moment to think. “Your father I believe had eleven inches, made from mahogany, pliable. It was more for power and transfiguration. Which is what your father seemed to be good at. The wand chooses the wizard, now.”
Harry nodded along, afraid that he was going to have to listen to this man talk even more, when he was saved by the bell. He watched as Remus and Sirius walked in with their special surprise.
“Sorry we took a bit longer Har and Scar. We weren’t sure on what your sister would want, so it took us a minute.” Harry noticed the kitten in his dad’s arms. It was an all black cat with beautiful blue eyes. Harry looked once more at his parents before the fact that his pops was holding an owl cage hit him.
“And since your sister got a kitten we only thought this was fair. She’s a snowy owl. I hope you like her.” Harry and Scarlett ran up and gave each Remus and Sirius a hug.
“Thank you so much Dad and Pops!” They both gushed and took each of their new pets. The couple laughed and kissed the twins foreheads.
“Happy Birthday, Harry and Scarlett,” they told the duo.
“Ah, Mr. Lupin. Ten and a quarter inches, made out of cypress wood. A unicorn hair I believe.” Remus nodded his head. “And Mr. Black you had-“
“It doesn’t matter.” Sirius interrupted, “Harry and Scarlett would both like to get a wand.” Ollivander sighed and looked at Harry.
“You first my boy.” Harry, handed the owl cage to his dad and followed Ollivander around his small store until he suddenly stopped. He used his own wand for a box to float from the top of the shelf. “Here try this one.” Harry took the wand and made a motion with it that he had seen his dad do many times. When nothing happened, Ollivander grabbed the wand out of his hands and place another one in it as quickly as he took out the former. Harry did the same gesture he did with the first one, and just like it Mr. Ollivander snatched it out of his hands.
“Don’t worry about it, Harry. I was difficult for me to find a wand too,” Sirius comforted his son after they watched the wand pile get higher and higher.
Ollivander came from the back of the store where he had run to find Harry another wand to try. He picked it out of the box and handed it to him. The warmth from the wand filled Harry with a home like sensation. He was suddenly at his home with his sister playing quidditch on a hot summer day. His dads were playing keepers. He was quickly brought back to the store where he looked at that wand he held, amazed.
“Holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches, nice and supple. Very good! I’m very, very, well very glad. Curious — very curious I think, though.” Harry watched the man look at his parents, and Remus placed a protective hand on Harry’s shoulder.
“What’s curious?” He mustered the Dad voice for that question. Ollivander looked at the two young wizards in front of him and back up to Sirius and Remus. He sighed deeply before he continued.
“I remember every wand that I have ever sold, Mr. Black. Every single one I remember. It’s very curious that Harry here is destined for this wand, as the phoenix feather in this wand gave another feather. Just one other feather, making it a brother wand. It’s brother, you see chose the wizard that gave him that scar.” Ollivander pointed to Harry’s forehead that held his scar. The scar took up all of his middle of his forehead, starting at his hair line and going down to his eyebrows. It wasn’t a different color or lighter than his dark skin tone, but it stood out against his skin.
Harry shivered when he thought about the night he got the scar. He and Scarlett couldn’t remember much, just a flash of light and a scream from what only could have been his mother. He remember the warmth of his sister right next to him, speaking of his sister.
“So when you say brother wand, are there ever triplets? Or does only Harry get the special connected wand and I’m here fucking myself over with a wand with a unicorn horn or some shit. Sorry, Dad, I know you have a unicorn horn, and you help people but god at what cost.” Ollivander rolled his eyes, gave Harry his wand’s box, and walked to the back of the store.
“There is no doubt that Sirius Black raised you, young one. The only time I’ve ever heard someone speak to me like that was from his mouth.” Remus had scold his daughter when she had cursed at the man, and Sirius found it hard to breathe, laughing deep in his core. Scarlett petted her new cat, still debating what she was going to name it, waiting for the wand maker. Ollivander came from the back of the store with a wand. “Here,” He said, “Give this one a go, and let’s pray you are easier then your brother.”
The wands in the shop must have ears, because if he thought Harry’s wand count was bad, Scarlett’s was even worse. It was when the pile of wands that she had tried over reached the amount of wands on the shelves, when Ollivander looked deep at Scarlett. She and Harry were just using an empty wand box to play with
“If you are going to tell me I’m a squib, I can assure you that I am not. Just last week I accidentally set Harry’s door on fire because he ate my left over cake in the fridge. I wish I was joking.” Ollivander just looked at her, before he made his way to the very back of the store. He came back with a large suitcase.
“As I told your brother, I remember every wand I have ever sold. Yet, I also remember every wand I have in this shop. Even the ones I didn’t make, but my family before me did. I’m afraid none of my wands are to become a match for you, because you have bonded to a wand made not from my hand.” Ollivander used his wand to opened the case and only three wands were in it. Two of the wands were made of a darker wood, leaving the last to be a light colored wood.
“Wow, what woods are these?” Sirius asked as he looked at the wands, side-by-side his daughter.
“This one here, is Ebony wood with a Pegasus feather as the core. It was made by one of my grandfathers, as he took a trip to Greece, he came back with only ten feathers, they all sold but this one. The one next to it is made of Rosewood and a hair from a veela. This one was made by my own father. The last one is made of Elder wood and a hair from a fox’s tail. This wand is the last on from my great grandfather, several generations back, who started the Ollivader businesses many years ago. It too has a brother, as it has been written on the box, to who carries it, I wish I knew.” Ollivander took the elder wand and handed it to Scarlett. “I do believe this will be our last one.” Scarlett took the wand as if it was the most delicate thing she had ever touched. Fiery warmth spread throughout her and suddenly she was in the patio, listening to Pops telling her and Harry how to mix colors, while Dad was reading a book and drinking a tea in the set of chairs in the corner of the room. She soon was back in the wand shop and felt her brother give her a bone crushing hug.
“Turns out we both get super awesome wands. And here we were nervous about the whole thing!” Harry cheered. Ollivander was talking to their parents quickly, but softly.
Scarlet couldn’t make out what they were saying, but they were definitely were talking about her and Harry’s wands. Remus gave the shop keeper the right amount of money, and before the family could leave, Ollivander gathered the twin’s attention.
“Listen well you two. You both have powerful wands in your hands. Harry, you carry a young and new magic ready to be explored. Scarlett, you carry an older magic which can be found in the making of our very people, ready to be unlocked by youth. Be careful with this power.” The twins nodded their heads seriously, and thanked the wand maker for his time. Sirius took Scarlett’s hand and Remus took Harry’s hand. Together they walked out of the shop and apparated back to their home.
Sirius and Remus let their twins take their new school supplies and robes to their rooms. While Remus was making dinner Sirius cleared his throat.
“Do you think Harry understand who had the brother to his wand?” He asked his husband. Remus paused the vegetables that he was sauteing.
“I do. I really do, and that is what concerns me. I don’t know what he or Scarlett are thinking. We knew they were going to be powerful, I mean Lily and James were some of the most powerful wizards I knew, but this? This is some sign from the universe they are destined for something bigger than we could ever imagine.” Remus moved the veggies over onto a platter, and set it on the table. Sirius saw his chance, pulled Remus close to him, and lightly kissed his neck.
“I’m scared,” he whispered and Remus hummed lightly, moving back to the stove where the meat was browning separately, for Scarlett, because she didn’t eat meat.
“Me too, but if any one is going to make it, it’s them. They are fighters. They get that from their parents.” Sirius got up and started to set the table.
“They get it from me and you too.” Remus smiled and kissed his husband.
“I meant me and you. I miss Lily and James, and I loved them with my whole heart, but those are our kids now. The day we took them in, they became ours.” Sirius looked up at the darkening sky and leaned into Remus’s hands, that were now rubbing his neck.
“Do you think they are proud of us? Lily and James?” He asked him softly, and Remus stopped and kissed his husband’s head.
“I’m sure of it. I am also sure they are proud of the kids.” Remus passed Sirius the cast iron pan and he set a pot-holder down before the pan. Sirius set the rest of the table and Remus rounded up the kids so they could start eating dinner. He hoped they were ready for this.
