Murasakibaras Dilemma

Work Text

“Kou-chin, I want a kiss.” Furihata didn’t know what to think. Well, to start he wasn’t exactly sure when he picked up the oversized puppy that was Murasakibara as a friend. He guessed it was after their win versus Yosen when he offered the giant some cookies he made (celebration cookies in case they won, pity cookies in case they lost).

Only when the nearly seven-foot giant showed up at Seirin three days later demanding more cookies (nevermind the fact that it was a school night and apparently Murasakibara didn’t tell anyone he was going to Tokyo) did Furihata realise he gained a new companion.

“Why do you want a kiss Atsushi-kun?” Furihata asked as he put the baking pan in the oven. Setting the timer he looked to see the rest of the ingredients he had out. He still needed to prepare the royal icing but considering the sugar cookies just went it, he could wait.

“Because I want one from Kou-chin,” Murasakibara said as he popped another potato chip into his mouth. Furihata didn’t know why he expected a better answer, it was Murasakibara after all. Walking over to his friend, who even sitting down was a bit taller than him, he pressed his lips to a warm cheek.

“There, a kiss,” Furihata smiled up at him before turning away. Before he could take a step, a large arm, one he’d compare to a tree branch, wrapped around his torso and pulled him back into the larger teen’s lap.

“Kou-chin,” Furihata swallowed as he looked into his friend’s eyes. People may have thought Murasakibara was an idiot (they weren’t that far off, to be honest, he was a classic case of a person who never applied himself) but he knew how to get his way. Well, get his way with Furihata anyway. Puppy eyes, accompanying his surprisingly tenor voice, and his soft whisper of “Kou-chin” always made Furihata give in to whatever he asked. Whether it was buying him a new snack that is only available in Tokyo or in this case, “I want a kiss here,” Murasakibara said pointing to his lips.

Relenting, Furihata turned around on Murasakibara’s lap. He blushed as he realised that he was straddling his friend, he blushed hard.

“Kou-chin is cute.”

“Don’t say embarrassing things out loud!” Furihata sighed burying his face in the broad chest before him. The arm that had left his body, wrapped back around him. Long fingers played with the hem on his shirt and the string of his apron. Looking up, the brunette looked back down seeing as purple eyes were already focused on him.

“Kou-chin, kiss,” Murasakibara whispered pressing his lips to the top of the shorter teen’s head. With new resolve, he maneuvered himself to be propped up and looking more directly at Murasaki. A large hand came to rest on the back of his head, his hair being run through gently. Slowly he inched forward, the other teen doing the same until they were a breath apart.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

The sound of the timer made both boys jump back from each other. Furihata climbed off his friend’s lap and retrieved the oven mitts. He wasn’t sure if his heart pounding was from being scared by the timer or how close he came to kissing Murasakibara. He’d be lying if he said he never thought about it, but for Murasakibara to actually initiate it himself, he never imagined that in his life. He was always the one confessing and initiating in his fantasies.

Putting the cookies on the cooling rack he turned around, “Look Atsushi-kun-”

Furihata had never had a kiss before. Sure he had imagined it. Light and soft. Maybe they’d be more experienced than him. Light touches. It wasn’t like that at all.

Murasakibara’s tongue licked a bit too heavy on his bottom lip leaving it coated with saliva. Their lips meshed together sloppily, a testament to both of their experience, well lack thereof. Furihata tried to press more into the kiss and only then did he realise his feet were no longer on the ground.

Two hands on his waist had effectively lifted him off the ground enough so the giant didn’t have to bend too far down to kiss him. Instead of letting them flap around like noodles, he wrapped his arms around the Yosen center. Furihata opened his mouth to squeal as he was lifted even higher as large hands moved to cup his ass. His legs reflexively went to wrap around Murasakibara’s waist.

Taking the opportunity, Murasakibara prodded Furihata’s tongue with his own trying to coax him more into the kiss. Instead, Furihata pulled away taking a gasp for air. He was sure his face was the colour of Akashi’s hair.

“Kou-chin? Are you okay? You’re red.” Excellent observation Murasakibara. Taking a few more deep breaths, the brunette tried to collect his thoughts as they raced around in his mind. Not only did he kiss Murasakibara, he made out with Murasakibara. He made out with Murasakibara in a position that he recognised very well from his...late night stress relievers.

“Wow, Kou-chin you’re even redder!”

“Can you put me down now Atsushi-kun?” Furihata forced out afraid of his own voice. With a grunt, he was set back down on the floor, “So,” he started, “Want to help me to make the cookies look like basketballs?”

Personality wise, Murasakibara was the easiest to get along with in the Generation of Miracles. He wasn’t really arrogant, extremely loud, or talkative. He knew when to just sit back and chill. Of course, he did that all the time because he was overall a lazy person, but still, when off the court and away from the subject of basketball, Kuroko would prefer his company.

Even now at their monthly get together, he was off in the corner the room sitting near the taller teen as he watched Aomine and Kise have the most intense air hockey match he’d ever seen. Akashi and Midorima were locked in a Shogi match and even though they all knew Midorima was going to lose eventually, he still put up a challenge for Akashi. Sadly, Momoi couldn’t make it so Kuroko, even though he wasn’t in the mood for heavy socialising was left to sit next to the snack eating giant.

“Kuro-chin?” Kuroko looked up surprised. It wasn’t often that Murasakibara initiated the conversation.

“Yes, Murasakibara-kun?” Knowing him he was probably going to ask his opinion on a snack he hadn’t tried yet or if he wanted to go buy more snacks with him later.

“How do I make someone my boyfriend?” The room froze. The clatter the air hockey puck hitting the floor from Aomine’s monstrous deflection was the only sound as all eyes turned towards the two of them. He didn’t think Murasakibara’s voice was that loud that they all could’ve heard him, but then again he shouldn’t have underestimated their hearing.

In a flash, Kise was sat next to him leaning in the purple haired boy’s direction, “You. You, Murasakibara Atsushi, want a boyfriend?” Thinking back on it, everyone in the Generation of Miracles had a crush once. But never Murasakibara. When they’d all sit around whispering as middle schoolers did (believe it or not they could act like normal thirteen year olds when they were that age) about crushes and who was pretty or handsome or cute, their tallest friend never commented.

Well, he never commented anything of substance.

“Yeah,” Murasakibara answered plainly. He still continued to stuff strawberry flavoured pocky sticks into his mouth as he gave his confirmation. Soon enough the rest of their friends had migrated to the sofas taking their respective seats.

Next to speak up was surprisingly Midorima, “Murasakibara, are you sure? You’ve never been interested in something like that before.” Clicking his teeth Murasakibara turned away from Midorima. As childish as ever.

“Shintarou-kun meant no disrespect,” Akashi started, “It’s just you’ve never taken a romantic interest in anyone before. We are all a bit shocked.” At the words of their leader, Murasakibara stopped pouting and continued to eat his snack. “

So, you have a crush on someone?” Kise asked slowly. The giant nodded opening a new bag of chips. As he ate, the rest of them sat their on the edge of their seats waiting for him to continue.

“Why are you all looking at me?”

“IDIOT!” Aomine yelled, “You can’t just drop a bomb like that and stop talking! Who is it? Do we know them?” Not the way he would’ve done it, but Kuroko would be lying if he said he wasn’t also curious about who managed to capture Murasakibara’s heart.

“Oh, Kou-chin.” The rest of them paused for a while, digging through their heads and trying to figure out who “Kou-chin” was supposed to be.

“Ah, could that possibly be Furihata-kun?” Kuroko asked.

“The chihuahua?” The rest of them voiced in similar confusion. Even Akashi had a small look of disbelief on his face.

“Yeah. Kou-chin. I want him to be my boyfriend,” Murasakibara smiled wistfully as he said the name of the brunette. It wasn’t that he was against the idea. Maybe if Akashi had said he wanted to date the timid teen he’d be ready to reject the idea. But the idea of Furihata with Murasakibara was-

“What the hell do you see in the chihuahua?” Weird.

“Furihata-kun has a lot of good traits. I can see how anyone would like him, but Murasakibara-kun, are you sure this isn’t just infatuation? Do you really like Furihata-kun?” The last thing Kuroko wanted was for two of his friends to get hurt by a mistake of feelings.

“Yeah, I kissed him and everything.” There was another stiff silence as all the teens tried to process the words that were just said. Murasakibara kissed someone. And that someone was Furihata.

“Okay, okay, okay, start from the beginning!” Kise said looking a bit frazzled.

“Oh, well I was born October 9th-”

“That’s not what I meant! I meant at the beginning with you and Furihatacchi!”

“Oh. He gave me cookies after we lost and they were good so I went to Seirin and asked him to make me more and everyone yelled at me. But Kou-chin didn’t yell and he made me more cookies-”

“You can’t base a relationship off cookies,” Aomine added dryly cutting off the taller teen’s story.

“I’m not done!” Murasakibara pouted throwing an empty pocky box at his friend, “Kou-chin is also cute. And he’s nice to everyone and likes to help which is annoying sometimes but it’s okay ‘cause it’s Kou-chin,” Kuroko nodded along. He knew what Murasakibara meant even though his words weren’t exactly the best at getting it through. Furihata might be timid but he was a good person. He helped because he liked to help, no ulterior motive. Making people happy made him happy.

“Well if you kissed him and he didn’t have a problem with it then ask him out, problem solved,” Aomine stood up already tired of the conversation.

“You should just ask him outright. He probably likes you too,” Kise added with a smile. Midorima, still recovering from the shock that Murasakibara had kissed someone nodded as well making note that Scorpios and Libras could be a good match but he needed more information to match them exactly because of their moon and rising signs. Akashi just nodded thinking it was all going to be fine.

But it wasn’t.

“Um, Murasakibara-kun,” Kuroko called out. The purple haired teen looked down at him and cocked his head to one side, “You need to get approval from the Serin team before you ask Furihata-kun out.” For a third time, the room came to a standstill until Aomine ruined the dramatic silence with his gut-busting laughter.

“He needs what?! Is the chihuahua your princess or something?” He said in between laughs.

“The second years are very protective of Furihata-kun. Especially Hyuuga-senpai. Furihata already-” Kuroko cut off when he realised he was about to venture too deep into Furihata’s personal life.

“Don’t stop there Kurokocchi! For once in your life gossip a little, besides, it’s to help Murasakibaracchi!” He whined. All of them looked at him with the same dry expression, they knew he just wanted to hear someone else’s business.

“Well he had a crush and it ended really bad and ever since then the second years have been protective of him,” Kuroko said causing Kise to pout at the lack of drama.

The real story was harsh. After finally winning the Winter Cup, Furihata did ask his crush out and it with ended with him being humiliated in front of his entire class. Seeing Furihata try and be strong and smiling with tears in his eyes was worse than their first loss to Touou.

After that day, the second years had become mother hens when it came to him, especially Hyuuga. Only two weeks after that someone had asked Furihata on a date and the entire team was on edge the week leading up to it which ended with Furihata not going and Hyuuga scaring off the potential suitor who was deemed not good enough.

“Is it gonna be hard?”

“Well, you’re childish and I don’t think Hyuga-senpai likes you but Kiyoshi-senpai does but Kagami doesn’t but you laughed at Izuki-senpai’s puns,” Kuroko mused.

“So what you’re saying is its fifty-fifty?” Kise said.

“Fifty-fifty.”

Furihata gulped as he made another shot. Whether the ball went in or not didn’t register as he picked up another one and made the same jump shot. His mind was still trying to recover from the weekend before.

Furihata would be lying if he said he didn’t like Yosen’s giant. Sure, Murasakibara could be a little childish and he had to force him to eat real food every once in a while but he was sweet, a good listener, and very appreciative. Yeah, the bar wasn’t that high to impress Furihata (he wasn’t a prince or anything) but Murasakibara made him happy. He was also cuddly and warm and pretty, well, good looking.

“Furihata-kun, are you okay?” Kuroko asked from beside him. The brunet jumped and turned around to see the other boy next to him.

“Kuroko-kun! When did you get there?” He yelped.

“He was calling out to you for the last three minutes,” Fukuda said not hiding the amusement in his voice. Looking around he noticed everyone staring at him as well as the overabundance of balls scattered all over the place.

“You’ve been making the same shot for the last five minutes and you’ve been air balling it every time. Are you okay?” Kuroko asked. After nearly a year of friendship along with both being on the basketball team and in the library committee, Furihata got pretty good at reading his near expressionless teammate. He could see the small crease in his brow, the worry that clouded his sky blue eyes.

“It’s nothing major, just a lot on my mind,” he said rubbing the back of his neck. His chestnut eyes scanned Kuroko again causing his lips to dip in a small frown. Kuroko’s back was too straight, his eyes glistened just a bit, and the shadow of a smile was on his lips. He knew something.

“Okay, we’ll talk about it after practice,” the phantom player said jogging away. He definitely knew something.
