~Third Person POV~"Um, Shiro?" Pidge said in a worried tone. The paladins had just finished defeating one of the Galra's monsters and were cleaning up the aftermath."What is it Pidge?""i'm picking up an energy I've never seen before except from our lions," Pidge said with confusion."Okay well," Shiro was unsure of what to do. "We're not ready for another fight. Lets go back to the castle and wait to see what happens," Shiro said with a finality because he knew his team would be curious. One by one the lions flew back to The Castle of Lions to await what would happen with the weird energy signal. After checking for damage on their lions they headed up to the cockpit of the castle. Pidge went to her seat to investigate the energy and the others went to theirs just in case a fight was about to ensue. In a few doboshes a shape could be seen in the distance. A couple more and it was close enough to be seen clearly."Is that another Lion!?" Lance yelled in surprise and confusion."That's what it looks like," Allura said in equal confusion. "But my father never told me about a 6th lion, there are only meant to be 5."As the lion got closer they could see that it was definitely another lion. From the lion's hangar, 5 roars of welcome could be heard. ~Earlier that quintent on Earth~ ~Kyra's POV~I was bored at home and wanted to explore my new home. We had just moved to Wyoming and there was a forest behind our house."Dad, I'm going out to explore! I love you!" I yelled from the front door. He was probably busy with unpacking or something like that. He loved me, but ever since that thing happened he's been more closed off. Like he's scared to love someone else so closely. Afraid he'd lose it.We had been here for a few weeks and i hadn't had any time to explore my new backyard. By backyard i meant an entire freaking forest that was behind our house. Dad had told me that there were a few caves and things like that, and were really cool if you could find them.I ran out the door and around the back. The forest that was now my home looked bright and inviting. I started walking and after a few minutes stopped to look around. The light was shining through the leaves and branches. Making the ground littered with clusters of light and shadow. I saw squirrels playing chase and deer grazing yards away. To my right, a little stream gurgled.I found this forest far more beautiful then any stuffy city my old classmates wanted to live in. It felt so open and spacious. It sounded so alive, almost like music.Actually, the only thing missing was music. I pulled out my ipod nano 2 that my dad had given me for my 15th birthday. I had spent 2 weeks putting all my favorite songs on it.I turned on King of the Clouds by Panic! at the Disco on. It seemed appropriate for some reason.Unknown Object I continued to walk deeper in the forest. I had a compass if i got lost, so i wasn't worried about that. I had my phone and flashlight in my little backpack that i took with me everywhere i went, because I always wanted to be prepared for almost anything. While checking to make sure I had everything, without realizing it, i had walked into some thorny undergrowth. The thorns and stickers were all over my socks and were poking my feet. It wasn't very painful, but very annoying. I walked through the bushes, which only came up to my ankles, and headed over to a tree to lean on while i picked off the thorns and sh*t.Suddenly, i felt the ground beneath give way and i was free falling for a few seconds. My legs crumpled when i hit the ground and i sprawled on the ground. I lay there for a couple minutes waiting for the shock and pain to go away. I stood up and looked at my surroundings We have a rock wall to my left, a rock wall in front of me, a rock wall to my right, and a dark ominous corridor that leads to who knows where, I thought to myslef. Above me, of course, was a opening. It was about 7 feet high. I knew right off the bat that i wouldn't be able to climb out. There weren't enough roots for me to use as hand and footholds. I would probably only get high enough to get a signal if i was lucky. The only answer was for me to explore this cave and hope that there was a way out somewhere else. It was so quiet and dark down here that instinct told me to stay near the light. But i fought it down and grabbed the flashlight from my backpack. I checked to make sure the batteries were in the right way, because sometimes I forget small things like that. I stood for the first time since i fell. I felt a sharp pain in my right foot and i fell. I would somehow have to find an exit on a hurt, possibly broken foot. I stood up again, this time balancing on my left foot as to not hurt my right one further.I leaned against the side of the cave and started hopping along. It was definitely gonna be slow going and i was glad that i had my ipod to keep me company. I was also glad that I had thought to charge it before leaving and bring a charger.Music has always been my companion through everything. Through every bit of my past there is music somewhere. Whether it was in my mind or playing through some kind of speakers, including someones mouth. After walking for what felt like half-an-hour i noticed something on the walls. It looked like carvings of lions and a giant robot. They covered the entire cave with drawings. I had a strange urge to touch them. At first i denied it and kept hopping on my left foot, occasionally stopping for rest. When i finally couldn't stand it anymore, i touched the carving of a lion. All the drawings lit up with a purple glow. I was taken aback and accidently tripped and fell. I no longer needed my flashlight because the glowing carvings provided enough light for me to see. I turned it off and stowed it in my backpack. After a few minutes, i saw a brighter light up ahead. It was the same color as the carvings, but it was brighter. And it seemed to be calling to me. Like the carvings, but stronger.I tried going at a faster speed, but the going was still slow. As I got closer, my need to see what was making the light grew. Finally, i made it to the end of the tunnel. It opened up to a giant cavern that was covered in green moss and plants. And in the middle of the cavern, surrounded by what seemed to be some kind of shield, sat a giant, mechanical, purple, lion.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Looking at something so huge and magnificent, i felt small and insignificant. I also still felt the urge to go closer. I felt the need to somehow get past that shield and somehow go to the lion. It felt as if the lion wanted to go home. I hopped forward a couple paces, but I had to stop to regain my balance. Once I had managed to not fall on my ass, i hopped closer. I was so close to the shield that i could fall forward and touch it. That would not be in my best interest as i would probably fall down. My leg hurt so much that i wasnt sure if i could hop one more time, but somewhere i found the strength inside me to do one more hop.I reached out and touched the shield. All of a sudden i was in space. In front of me were five different lions varying in size and color. There were two small ones colored green and red. Next to the red one was a bigger blue lion and next to him was a yellow lion the same size. The biggest one was a black lion with wings on its back. Then from far away, a flash of light appeared and the purple flew towards the others. The five all roared on welcome and the purple lion landed next to the black on. They looked to be same size, but purple seemed a bit smaller. Though it is bigger then the blue and yellow ones. Then in another flash of light the five lions combined, and became the giant robot I had seen on the cave walls. The purple lion flew besides the robot, who petted the purple lion as if it was its pet. Somehow I knew the robot was called Voltron. As fast as the vision appeared, it disappeared. I was back in the cavern leaning against the barrier. When suddenly, the barrier disappeared and I fell forward. "You know," I said to the lion while getting up. "Causing me to fall on my face into grass and dirt, is not a great selling point if you wanna be friends."I heard a growl in my mind that I guessed was from the lion. It felt like telling me to get in."Really, you want me to climb in...so you can take me where?"It didnt answer me, but I felt it's impatience. I had been balancing on my foot, and now I tried to hop towards the lion. I stopped after three hops to see if I could muster the strength to keep hopping. After a few minutes I tried to hop again, and almost fell when my knee started to give out. I didnt have it in me to keep going."Sorry lion, but I'm too tired," i told it while slowly laying down. The lion growled in my mind again. It wanted me to crawl towards it. It then crouched down and opened its mouth. Inside was a ramp."Crawl...really...can't you just let me give up?"No, no it would not. I got up and started slowly crawling. When I got on the ramp that was in it's mouth, it closed around me and i was in the dark. I grabbed my ipod and used it as a flashlight since I didnt feel like grabbing my actual flashlight.I kept crawling up the ramp till I came to a room with a chair in it. I used the chair to stand up and pull myself into the chair. I sat down heavily and sank into the chair. All i wanted to do was sleep, but I felt like I should stay awake. The interior lit revealing a bunch of controls and a grey(gray) screen. The screen then lit up to show the cavern outside."Can you get me out of here, please." I was so sick and tired of being down here. The whole time i've been in pain and afraid I wouldnt be able to make it out. Now all i wanted to do was go home. The purple lion jumped and started tearing through the rock. It wasnt using its claws but just flying. It was that strong and impenetrable. When we finally broke through the rock i could see nothing but green from the forest. The lion ketp flying up until we cleared the redwoods. I squinted, but couldnt see my house. Apparently i had travelled so far that my house was probably miles away. "Time to go home lion," i told it sleepily. The lion zoomed upward at a pace i had never seen before. This was not the way home. I had no idea where we were going, and i didnt like that."Hey! I wanna go home," I yelled with as much energy as i could. By now we were well out of the atmosphere and passing the moon. Which shouldnt have been possible since our most modern tech could only make it too the moon in a week at most. We had made it in about a minute. I couldnt comprehend how far away i was from Earth right now. I felt tears well up in my eyelids. My home wasnt very much of a home, hell, it was a home that made me depressed . But it was home all the same. I looked to my left while willing the tears to go away, Kerberos was outside which again made no sense, It took the Garrison months to fly here. While it took this lion 5 minutes. A portal appeared in front of us and the lion headed towards it. I felt tears strly eam down my face. I was so far from home and this stupid lion wasnt listening to me. We wnt through the portal and all i saw was a tunnel of light and energy. When we emerged from it, we were in different part of space. How i knew, i dont really know. Maybe it was that the stars looked different or that i just felt that we were in a different place. It also could have been the giant yellow planet to my right, but I hadn't seen it until we were flying towards it. Against the planet, a giant flying castle could be seen. It was gigantic compared to the lion, which I thought had been huge. We quickly got closer and I saw the castle in more detail. It was blue and white and unlike anything I've seen before. We were close to hitting it and I started panicking, but a giant door opened. We flew in.~Keith's POV~The purple lion flew in through the door. We waited for it to close before stepping into the room. The lion crouched down and opened it's mouth. Nothing happened for a few ticks. Then a girl that looked to be 15, appeared. She kept her head down and started limping down the ramp. She had a backpack on one shoulder and her right foot was hurt as far as i could tell. When she got to the bottom she looked up. Her cheeks had tears running down from them. She stumbled and I realized that she was gonna fall. I pushed past Shiro and ran towards her. She fell into my arms right before she hit the ground. More tears were going down her face. I wondered what she had gone though to find the lion. I recalled that finding the blue lion hadn't been very easy for us. She looked like she was trying to say something but couldn't figure out what to say."I-I wanna go home," she sobbed. Minutes later she blacked out. The rest of the gang came up behind me."Let's get her in to the regeneration pods," Coran said. I picked her up. She was surprisingly a bit lighter then she looked. I carried her to the pods as fast as I could. When I placed her in the pod, she caught my wrist. I was sure she was in a deep sleep, by then how did she grab my wrist? I pried her hand off as gently as I could and stepped back so the pod could close.I really wanted to know how there could possibly be another lion. Now that the shock had settled in, i was extremely confused. Im sure everyone was as confused as i was. We would have to figure out what to do next. I wasn't sure when the girl would wake up, but I was sure I could leave her for a few hours.I took one look at the sleeping girl and walked back to the lions den; thats what we like to call the hangar. Everyone was still standing in the same place except they were all talking now. I walked up and started listening to the conversation that was happening. Everyone sounded confused and slightly upset, especially Allura."My father never told me about another lion. There have always been five lions," she sounded hurt."Also in the vision of Voltron that we had, we never saw a purple lion," Hunk said. Shiro cut in,"There must be a explanation to all of this. We'll eventually find it, but for now we should stop worrying about the lion and worry about the girl." "I agree," Coran said. "We should place her with the paladins since she technically is one. Does anyone know what happened to her backpack that she had, we'll put it in her room.""I have it," Lance said while holding up the small black backpack covered in different collectible buttons and lapel pins."Come on sharpshooter, we'll go set up a room for her," I grabbed Lance's arm and started dragging him toto the paladin's quarters. After going down a couple different hallways we reached it. The rooms were all near each other. First was Shiro's room. Across from him was Hunk. Then Pidge was next to Hunk, with Lance across. I was next to Lance and a empty bedroom was across from me. That was where our new paladin would go.The door opened to a empty and boring room, devoid of any personality. I set down the backpack on the bed and looked at it. There were some things that I recognized on it. Like the My Chemical Romance lapel pin that was near the top. Apparently this paladin might be emo.Lance spent his time looking around the room, checking for dust and cobwebs. I doubted he would find any. "So where do you think it came from," Lance interrupted my train of thought."Earth," I deadpanned"You know what I mean, where did it come from before it was on Earth? Did someone else make it? Did Alfor make it? I wanna know," Lance whined."Well maybe the girl will be able to tell us, who knows. But for now please stop whining," I shoved Lance out the door. I wished that I didn't have to pretend to be annoyed by him, but what can i say? I have a reputation."I'm going, I'm going. Just stop shoving me."I heard the door shut behind me as i walked back down the hall, away from Lance.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
~Kyra's POV~Images flashed before my eyes, replaying events that had happened in my life. In one, I saw myself find the purple lion. In another, i was exploring the forest again. The images slowly went back in time through the years. It felt like an eternity, but also only a couple of seconds.A memory, I thought had been long forgotten, surfaced. My mom stood in the kitchen humming and cooking. I hadn't seen a picture of her in so long, it felt like I had forgotten what she looked like. Seeing her face again stunned me. I saw my toddler self enter the kitchen and walk over to her. I looked to be around 2 or 3. She stopped cooking and looked down at me with the biggest smile on her face."Hello my little explorer. How did you find your way out of your crib?" She asked as she picked me up. She hugged me close and then started tickling me. I heard the sound of my own laugh. The sound startled me. I had never laughed, there had never been a reason. I was almost never happy whether at home, or at school. She continued tickling me until the food on the stove started to bubble."Oops, we're gonna burn the food, muffin," she said as she put me down and started to stir the food. The memory started to fade from view. I tried to grab it and keep it there in front of me. But it slipped through my conscious like mist. No more memories came to mind. The memory of my mother left me sad and frustrated. My father had never told me what happened to her. Only that she was gone and there was nothing we could do about it.I felt myself slowly start to wake up, but I didn't want to. I wanted to stay in this perfect paradise that was my unconsciousness. Here I was safe from whatever horrors awaited me in the waking world. Here I could see the memories with my mother in them. But of course i never get what I want.I felt my legs start to wake up first. My feet tingling and itching. It wasn't an annoying itch that i had to scratch or I would be driven to madness, but a slight feeling that let me know i was alive. The feeling slowly crept up my body until my entire body was tingling.I slowly began to test my toes to see if I could wiggle them. Slowly, one foot wiggled, and then the other. I tested each finger to make sure I could move them. I opened my eyes for the first time in what felt like forever. Pacing in front of the glass that was my window, was the boy in red armor.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
I stumbled out of the weird pod i was in and bumped into the boy standing in front of it. I almost fell right on the ground but he grabbed my hand just in time and pulled me up."You okay?" He asked me."Uh, yeah. I think so thanks." I replied with uncertainty"Yeah, no problem. I'm Keith," he talked cautiously as if trying not to scare me."Kyra," I replied. "And you don't have to talk to me like I'm made of glass, I won't break.""Oh, heh, sorry. You were just kind of in rough condition when you got here. Speaking of which, the rest of the team is eager to meet you and would like to hear how you came across another lion. "He still spoke delicately but less like he was trying to walk on eggshells."Oh, of course. I have a couple questions myself. For one, where am I? When and how will I get home?" I was eager to know about the last one."Yeah, those are all questions that would probably be best discussed with the team, mostly because I don't have the answers you're looking for at the moment," he said apologetically."That's okay," I tried to put on a smile. "I understand, go ahead and lead the way."He nodded and walked out of what I assumed to be the infirmary. The halls all looked the same. All gray, white, light blue, and a pastel shade of pink. It was pretty and the colors all complimented each other, but everything was the same. I was surprised Keith even knew where he was going. It only took a short walk and a couple turns before we entered a door that led to what looked to be a living room of sorts. It looks like controlled chaos if you ask me. Everyone was doing something different. There was a short girl with glasses who was typing away at lightning speed on a laptop. Muttering and readjusting her glasses. A guy with black and white hair was looking over what looked like blueprints or battle plans. Another guy with his hair tied back with a bandana was passing out what looked like cookies. A man with orange hair and mustache was animately telling a story while a boy with brown hair and blue eyes listened intently. And finally a beautiful woman with white hair looking over the chaos and reading a weird language at the same time.I've never experienced anything like this. It was a little overwhelming but also fascinating at the same time. The fact that every one of these things could be happening simultaneously but no one was truly bothering what the others were doing. Also it was amazing how they were all so engrossed in what they were doing that they didn't notice Keith and I in the door way."Ahem," Keith tried to quietly get everyone's attention. Their attention was still in the things they were doing. "Ahem!" He tried a little louder this time and this time was able to get their attention. It was suddenly very quiet as all their eyes went from Keith to me. It was daunting to say the least and incredibly unnerving but I held my ground as best I could. Noise suddenly broke out again as they all started talking at once. I cringed inwardly at the sudden loudness of it all. Again I am in no way used to this. "Alright quiet down everyone, one at a time please," the guy with black and white hair said. "Let's start with introductions and then we can move on to questions, okay? I'll start, hi I'm Takoshi Shirogane but you can just call me Shiro." Wait, wait wait whoa! The Takoshi Shirogane as in one of the most renowned pilots ever?? My inner monologue was going a mile a minute. How had I not noticed it was him before. Maybe it was all the chaos or that he looked slightly differ- Stay focused Kyra fan girl later. Next was the girl with glasses. "I'm Katie Holt but call me Pidge," she adjusted her glasses and smiled. She seemed smart and friendly, maybe...we could be frien- don't get ahead of yourself and just stay focused. It's not like anyone would want to be friends with you anyway.Next was bandana cookie boy. "Hi, I'm Hunk Garret would you like a cookie? I'm not sure what they're made from, but they taste pretty good."He- He was offering me a cookie....he was being nice to me...so far they were all being nice. I must have been too quiet for too long because he spoke up again. "Or not if you're not a cookie pers-,""No, I-I would love one, please," I accidentally interrupted. When I realised I had been rude I covered my mouth quickly, an apology slipping out. He smiled wider and handed one to me. I took it from him timidly and took a bite. It was probably the best cookie I had ever had. I couldn't quite pick up the flavor but it was warm, gooey, and just all around amazing. I stuffed the rest of it in my mouth it was that good."So this is the right recipe, glad you like it"I smiled sheepishly. Next was the blue eyed boy. "Hey I'm Lance McClain nice to meet you."And the orange haired man, "I'm Coran and this is Princess Alura of Altea, pleasure to make your acquaintance." Oh wow a princess...that's why she was so regal and pretty. Oh wait its my turn to speak now. Oh crap what do I sa- chill out just introduce yourself."Uh Hi, I'm Kyra Dericks," I did a little wave trying to seem as friendly as possible."Why don't you go sit down and we can all talk about the recent events," Keith suggested. I honestly forgot he was in the room."That sounds great," Everyone walked to the big couch as I shuffled awkwardly to it afraid of how to act. I sat on the far end so I was facing everyone at the same time. "Alright so first things first Kyra how did you find the Purple lion?" Shiro asked inquisitively. I could tell that they were all eager for answers so I thought for only a second to get my story together.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
It took me a second to get my story together and then I started to explain." My father and I had just moved to the countryside. The house was surrounded by a large forest and we had only been there for a week, so I decided to go explore. For some reason I decided that shoes weren't needed-""Wait," Lance interrupted. "You didn't wear shoes into a forest?""Well yeah, I was....eager to leave the house to say the least and putting on shoes would have slowed me down. I was listening to music while walking and was looking for a cave to explore. I didn't notice that I had walked into some thorny undergrowth and it was sticking to my socks and the next thing I knew I was falling. I must have landed on my foot really bad and not having shoes probably cause more damage. Since I didn't have anything to absorb the shock other then my foot." I went on to explain everything that had happened up until I crawled into The Purple Lion. At that point I paused. I wasn't sure how to explain how I wanted to go home. They had already seen how weak I was when I had passed out. They didn't need to hear about more of my weakness. I decided to skip that part. "-and now I'm here," is how I ended the story. There was silence in the room as everyone processed what I had just told them.Shiro spoke first, "I'm very interested in the fact that your vision showed The Purple Lion as a pet, when we never saw The Purple Lion at all. How could that be?""I wonder if The Purple Lion was meant as support in battle when the war got difficult. It wouldn't explain however, why it was also on Earth. The Lions weren't supposed to be on the same planets," Alura said from where she was regally siting on the other end of the couch."But I thought we were fighting Zarkon pretty well," Pidge said. "We've had more victories then losses at this point. So why would The Purple Lion be needed?"If that was true then maybe...I could go home. Yes, I keep telling my self that it wasn't much of a home, but I should be grateful for what I had. I mean at least I had something."Shouldn't we trust in Voltron that it knows better then we do?" This was the first time Coran had spoken since he introduced himself. I liked his voice, he sound very wise but also funny. "Besides we could always just ask Alfor's copy if he had made The Purple Lion and what the lion's purpose is. For now, until Alura is ready to ask, we should to continue as we were."Wait does that mean I'm not gonna be able to go home. Does that mean I had to stare here? Crap crap crap. It's not like I can stay here. I don't know my place here or how I stand with these people. I don't know how to act around them, what to do or say so I stay on there good side. I noticed my breathing was speeding up.I focused on deep breaths and tried to just calm down. It took a few breaths but I was fine everything was gonna be fine. I could just.....hijack the lion and get it to take me back. Maybe that could work. Who was she kidding that would never work. She could come up with something better. Maybe I had been too quiet or something, because when I peeked from behind my hands that at some point had gone to cover my eyes, everyone was looking at me. It looked like no one really knew what to do, they were all stuck in mid-conversation.Shiro did the leader thing, at least I assumed he was the leader, and spoke what everyone seemed to be thinking. "I'm sorry Kyra this must be all knew to you but I promise that we'll figure something out.""Will I be able to go home soon?" I asked meekly already guessing the answer."I don't know," was his reply. I knew it was going to be his answer. "For now though we have a room for you, Lance why don't you show her it.""Alright," Lance said as he got up and walked over to me in a smooth motion. "Come on I'll give you an amazing tour of the Castle halls.""Mkay," I followed out the room. Before the door closed however I heard a burst of conversation that made my heart sink a little bit. "So, where to begin about the Castle of Lions." Lance started rambling off about how they had gotten here and how confusing the castle could be at first. He said that I could ask for help getting my way around at any time. I don't know why but as I listened my eyes started to water. Why? Could it be because this is the most anyone has ever talked to just me that wasn't a scolding or lecture. Or was it because he was offering everyone's help without obligation or begrudgement. Was it because he was being so nice? I didn't know, all I knew was that I felt hot tears falling down my face. I was 15 for crying out loud! I shouldn't be crying over something so little as kindness. I quickly tried to wipe the tears but Lance noticed they were there before I got to them."Hey, K, are you okay?" He asked softly. He gave me a nickname?! He asked me if I was okay. Something about those two things broke a damn somewhere in my heart and I started to sob."Oh crap, I'm sorry whatever I did I'm sorry," Lance started to apologize and I sobbed harder because he was apologizing and he meant it."N-no I'm s-sorry," I tried to tell him through the tears. "It's b-been a long t-time since someone g-gave me a n-nickname. Or e-even asked i-if I was o-okay. Or even just t-talked to m-me this long."The tears were running out now that I had voiced why I was crying so hard. Instead of Lance looking disgusted and walking away like I thought he would, he walked closer and...hugged me. An actual not for appearances hug. It has been so long since I got one of these too that my tears started anew."Why don't we go to your room, talk, and calm down. How does that sound?" Lance asked quietly."That sounds nice," I answered while wiping the tears and snot off my face with my jacket sleeve. We rounded a corner and went past a series of doors. After we passed a couple Lance stopped and I bumped into him."I'm so sorry," I apologized quickly instinct taking over and preparing for a lecture about watching where I was going. "Don't worry about it," was all he said with a smile as the door opened. The room was nice. It wasn't too big but just big enough to feel like I had some space. It was grey and dim and I liked it to be quite honest. There was a desk in the corner with a chair and a bed next to it with my backpack on it.Lance went and sat on the chair by the desk and I just flopped onto the bed, suddenly feeling exhausted."So, you wanna talk about it?" He asked."Well not really. I just met you and I'm not the best at...talking. Especially about my emotions. Its just that...this is all so new and different and I'm not sure how to feel or think about any of it. I don't wanna go home exactly but I'm not sure if I wanna stay here either. I don't know any of you and I don't know how to act and how to not get things wrong." I rambled about my small fears so he didn't ask about the real reason I had been crying I didn't want him to quite know that reason. "Hey don't worry about that," Lance assured me. "Everyone here is really nice I swear. Pidge is super smart and sarcastic. Hunk is the most caring person I've ever met. Shiro is a fantastic leader who will listen to you if you need someone to listen to. Coran and Alura are both wise and have good advice. And Mullet? Well he.....he's good at almost all those things to be quite honest.I got up from my flopped position. It was interesting how he said that about Keith. At least I assumed it's Keith because he mentioned everyone but Keith. He also had long hair so he had to be talking about him, almost fondly."What about you? I asked. "What are you in the group?"Well I'm kinda the seventh wheel if I'm being honest here. I don't particularly fit in to one category. Its like im the comedy relief," he replied. His voice suddenly filling with melancholy."You know Lance I don't think that's true at all. I've only been around you guys for a couple hours but you are important to them. And I understand how it may not feel like it right now bur you are. Gimme a couple days and i will find a way to describe how important you are to the team." I was still rambling but it was fine because Lance's sad mournful expression did a 180 with my reassurance. "Thank you Kyra. I'm glad you found The Purple Lion and that we got to meet you. You seem really cool," he said as he got up to walk out. "I'll let you rest now. But dont forget if you ever want to just talk about stuff I'm here." And with that he walked out the door and it shut softly behind him, before I got the chance to say anything else. The words were still caught in my throat. Was it just me or had i made a friend? I mean maybe he didnt think of us as friends yet but we were close to friends right? Or....maybe not. He could have been doing that out of pity or sympathy. I sure hope not, because pity and sympathy were two things I hated most. I have no use for pity or anything of its kind. I just wish that maybe we could be friends. I just want one friend, just one.And with that thought I drifted off to sleep.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
~Lance's POV~The door closed softly behind me as I left Kyra to sleep. She was a nice girl from what I've seen so far. Though I haven't seen much. She was a good story teller and then she was quiet while listening. But had she been listening or thinking...or both. Then she had just started crying out of no where. The reason being because no one had talked to her that much? What had that been about? Then when he had asked if she was okay, and also called her K, she had started crying even harder. No one had called her a nickname? No one had ever asked if she was okay? I don't think she was exaggerating or anything, but I can't believe no one would call their own child a nickname, or talk to them. Also if she's so sad about things that happened before, why did she want to leave so quickly? All questions I don't have answers to. Maybe she would open up more later on. I won't push her to answer them, I know what not wanting to open up is like. I just got to give her time.I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking. My mind to occupied by the previous events to see what path I was taking, I walked right into Keith who was heading in the opposite direction. He was walking so fast I fell to the ground from the force. "Oops sorry Keith," I rubbed the back of neck awkwardly. "I wasn't watching where I was going.""Lance- wait what?" Keith looked taken aback for some reason. Maybe it was because I had always tried to fuel my self proclaimed rivalry with him. Maybe I should stop doing that. We're supposed to be team mates after all."Anyway," he said, "We are meeting in the kitchen to eat and discuss what we've learned. Is she okay?"Should Lance share with Keith what he had just happened or was it supposed to be between Kyra and himself. Well, Keith did seem closer to her then the rest of the team. They seemed almost friends. He was also worried about her which qualified as being an almost friend. I myself am an almost friend so I should share what i know."Well...she wasn't doing too well when I left.""Why, what happened?" Keith cut me off."Let's go to my room and i'll tell you." I was worried the other team would walk in and here what we were discussing. Which in my opinion was none of their business."Why?" Keith asked. He couldn't just trust me?"Because were the two closest to her and we're not even that close. I dont want the others hearing because they aent as...sensitive as you and i are. So can you just trust me? Please?""Yeah Lance I'm sorry," Keith apologized. Keith Kogan actually apologized to me??? Wow what a quintent this was turning out to be.I walked into my room which is diagonally across from Kyra's. I normally would have jumped on my bed but as this was a serious matter I sat down and left Keith to figure out where he was going to sit. He sat at the desk chair and waited for me to start speaking."Alright so i was giving her a little tour of the castle as we were walking to the paladin quarters. I was talking about how cool it was to have a new paladin and how it might be hard to find your way around the castle at first, but we are always here to help. I heard a little sniffle and saw her hand move. When i looked over she had tears streaming down her face. So I did what any normal human being would do and asked if she was okay. I also called her K rather then Kyra and she started crying harder.""Wh-" Keith tried to cut me off."Hold on I'm not done yet. I started apologizing profusely and then she started apologizing. She said that she said its been a long time since she was called a nickname, asked if she was okay, or even talked to her for as long as she did. And I don't know man. We've only known her for a couple hours, but my friend instincts are kicking in. I don't think she should go back to Earth. It doesn't sound like she has a good life there," I finished somberly. "What happened after?" Keith asked."Well I too her to her room and asked if she wanted to talk about it and she didn't. So I told her that she always had us if she ever needed us." I didn't want to tell Keith about my lack of confidence in myself. He was my self proclaimed rival after all."Well you can't expect her to want to talk to complete strangers. You did good though, Lance. She knows that she can talk to us if she needs us. For now though we should probably let her sleep and then after help her feel comfortable being part of the team. The others are suspicious and hesitant of her. Especially Allura, and they might not make it easy for her," Keith finished."So, they don't believe her story or they do but they want to be cautious?" I asked."Both in a way. Hunk, Pidge, Coran, and I believe her story but Shiro and Allura aren't quite convinced. The others want to be cautious as well in case she's a spy.""Alright then we will just have to be the most welcoming team members of them all. To the point that we're annoying! Sound good?" I asked"Sounds good, you wanna go train?" Keith questioned."Keith, buddy, my favorite mullet head. I would love to," I replyed cheerfully. "But let's do it after the kitchen meeting, yeah?"
