One day like everyone else, Jimin comes home from his part-time job and finds his parents arguing. He goes directly to his room and doesn't even care about them. He took a shower, ate a small snack and sat on his little desk to do his homework. He hears them scream downstairs; his mother cries and his father screams even more. Jimin puts on his headphones and closes the door. He let few tears run down his cheek and started doing his homework, ignoring his heart hurting.
The Park family was poor, desperate and pathetic. Jimin had a father, a mother and an older sister. She fled to US after leaving a letter at home explaining that she was fed up with this family. She went there and settled down with her boyfriend and she asked that we don't seek her. Jimin always repeats why he did not do the same thing. Jimin loved his sister, she was there for him. But since their dad started to become an alcoholic, violent and heartless, Park Sera became cold. Their mom became weak and does not care about her kids. She started doing long shifts that never ended in hospital. She was not a doctor or nurse, but a janitor. Their dad was becoming more and more absent in the house and when he was there, he was only beating Jimin or his mother. The latter suspected that her husband had cheated on her and when she told him of these concerns, he had beaten her like never. She never asked him that question again. But following these actions, Jimin understood a lot of things. Shortly after, he became completely rejected, helpless and hurt. He only speaks to his mother when he needs to, but the latter does not give him the same affection as before. Sometimes he blames himself, he thinks it's his fault. But what did he do?
Park Jimin is 17 years old, he is studying at the high school of his neighborhood, nothing special. Clichés; bad boys, nerds, popular barbie girls, losers, drug dealers, etc. Jimin was a loner. No friend. Do not talk. Do not laugh. He studies and goes to work at the local grocery store until 9pm. He goes home, he does his homework, sleep and the routine starts again. One evening, returning from the job, Jimin perceives the old man who lived at the corner of the street feeding the abandoned little kittens. Jimin calls him.
-Ahjussi! I told you not to worry, I bought them a few crumbs of bread ..
-Jimin, I prefer to see you eat what you bought, I know it's hard for you and I am worried.
-I know. I'm eating well.
Jimin knew very well that this was a lie. His mother doesn't prepare him food anymore. And it's been almost a year and a half they did not have a real family dinner. Jimin was tired of this life. Die? What's the point of living? But he still believes from the bottom of his heart a person out there can help him one day. But when?
That night, returning from the job, something was definitely going to change, Jimin feels something in his heart. Something bad. He said goodbye to the old man and crosses the street to go home. Approaching the front door, he hears a heavy sound. He runs inwards and sees his mother on the ground and his dad beating her with a baseball bat. Jimin rushes to her to protect her. But she cries:
-DON'T COME NEAR ME JIMIN. ALL THIS IS BECAUSE OF YOU. GET OUT OF HERE, CHILD. I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN.
Jimin was completely shocked.
-Mom..what's ..
His father looks at him and hits him in the face with the stick. And menacingly, he says:
-Do what this b*tch tells you to do, boy. I don't want to see you anymore. I'm not your father anymore.
Jimin looks at his mother one last time in the eyes, she looks at him too. But the only thing he sees through her is disdain and hatred. He lets tears run down his cheek and run out of the house. He was completely lost. Desperate. Sad. He is hurt. Very bad. He runs. And runs. And runs. Until his feet couldn't run anymore.
Jimin finds himself standing near a lake. He sits down and starts to see the shore on the other side. He saw the wealthy neighborhood and wondered why he was not born heir to a rich family who loved and cherished him. Life was unfair sometimes. He cries and screams in silence. The night was going to be long. But Jimin decides to empty all the tears of his body.
Jungkook leaves his room and takes the stairs of the house towards the big entrance hall. His mother calls out to him:
-where are you going at this time?
-My walk. You know I have to do this ...
-Yes but it's a little bit late than usual ..
-yes i was on the phone all this afternoon with a car dealer, I need to change mood...
-ok go ahead, keep your phone on and if you need to be picked up I will send the driver...
Jungkook nods and gives a small smile to his mother. He then walks to the front door. Wears running shoes. And get out of the main door to find himself in the big hallway. The Jeon family lived in a luxurious penthouse in Gagnam. They have one of the most expensive houses in Korea, with so many rooms and countless bathrooms, a gigantic kitchen with many cooks. Many luxury vehicles. The life of a typical rich. Jungkook didn't care, all his life he lived in wealth, he was used to it.
He goes to the elevator and goes down to the ground floor. At the parking lot, he told the driver to lift him near the middle class neighborhoods. After 15 mins of drive, the driver parks the car right at the entrance of a street. Jungkook gets out of the car and asks the driver to leave. Then, so that people in the street don't recognize him, which is impossible at this hour, he puts on a mask and wears a hoodie with a large hood. He begins to walk towards the lake.
Jungkook is 16 and he was a reserved guy. Shy sometimes. However, the whole school knew him. He goes to Bangtan High School, the biggest high school in Seoul. Only people of the upper class could enter. He was the richest heir of the country, his place was automatically there. A little problem would upset Jungkook, his parents were overprotective. He is tired of always being controlled like a puppet. He wants to live. He sometimes wants the life of his friend Yoongi, one of the famous rapper of the country. The latter is studying at the university and still managed how he holds concerts here and there. Jungkook also wants to be like Namjoon, his other best-friend. Namjoon was studying in the same hight school as Jungkook, child of a family of prosecutors and politicians. Namjoon had a family that was loved by the nation, their hearts were so good. Jungkook will not even be surprised to see Namjoon as the next president.
He walks silently along the path not knowing where this path will take him. He thinks. He never told his parents that he did not want to be betrothed to Maria at only the age of 16. He never told his parents his sexual orientation. He never told his parents that he feels strangled in a life he never chose. He doesn't want to let go of what he has, a rich life no everyone can have, but he wants his parents to understand his feelings. The world knows it, Jungkook has a beautiful image. He is seen by others as the arrogant, wealthy little rich man. He doesn't care what people think of him, even if sometimes he's pretty cold. But he really doesn't care, that's why. He keeps walking and thinking.
Hoseok was walking down the deserted street thinking what to explain to his father. Maybe Tae was right, a simple honest communication with his father could fix things. But he was afraid for his studio, dance is his life. His father is rich enough that he doesn't know what to do with money, his family lives the beautiful life that everyone dreams but Hoseok doesn't have the same opinion. That's why he did everything to convince his father to buy a dance studio in the middle class neighborhood. He is satisfied with the dance, he is not interested in the materialistic things. Yes, he loves his life, but it's just because it's in the way. He doesn't need to show off with cars or show off because he is student of Bangtan High School. He just wants a peaceful life.
Hoseok called Taehyung explaining him he will come by to sleep, because he can't go home after a fight with his dad. Taehyung is his best friend, a Gucci model. A sweet boy. A sincere social butterfly. Hoseok directly befriended him when they entered Bangtan High school. And then, Jin came along with the squad. A confident man, majoring in acting in university. Jin and Taehyung met in a photoshoot and Tae decided to introduce him to Hoseok. The latter liked him automatically.
He walks down the street thinking of all what happened with his dad. He decides to go through the lake whose view overlooks the rich neighborhoods. He approaches the pedestrian lane when he hears noises that kinda seem like sobs. He turns his head to see where the sound is. He sees a figure sitting on the bench by the lake.
Hoseok walks towards the sitting figure. He doesn't know what to do, but he really wants to help the poor guy. Hesitant, he puts a hand on the boy's shoulder. The boy turns around and screams. He stands up pushing Hoseok.
-calm down, I'm here to help ... are you okay dude?
Hoseok notices that the boy is traumatized. He has already seen a reaction like that. He doesn't want to live such a scene yet. He really wants to help the boy. The latter in front of him started stuttering.
-I-i am...o-okay..eh..s-sorry..
-Come on, I'll walk you, you dont look well..
-n-no...i-its o-okay...i'll s-stay here...
-uhm its late and you are alone, i wont feel at ease leaving you alone
-i-i said..i dont wanna come w-with you...
Hoseok notices that the boy wobbles a bit and that his nose is red because of the bleeding. Hoseok gets closer and notices that Jimin had a blue on the face. He approaches to hold the guy. Jimin backs away. And at that moment, everything happened so fast. Another boy from nowhere hits Hoseok right in the face making him falls.
The other boy then screams:
-ASSHOLE HE SAID HE DOESN'T WANNA COME WITH YOU WHAT THE FCK DUDE
Jimin was shocked by the scene. He did not understand what had happened. The new boy took his hand, and the two young men started running. Jimin was just following, forced to run completely helpless.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Jungkook POV on what happened at the lake.
Jungkook walks quietly near the lake when he hears a scream coming towards the lake. He approaches the noise and notices two guys. He listens to their conversation and quickly understand that one of the two guys pushes the other to follow him against his sandstone. Jungkook doesn't know what to do, but he imagines the worst. Then he goes straight to the tallest figure trying to hold the smallest, holding a fist. As he arrived near the tallest one, he pushes him and yelled at him. He then took the smallest hand and starts to run with him. Jungkook and Jimin ran to the neighborhood exit. They stop running and start to catch their breath. Jungkook turns to Jimin. He watches his face. Jungkook wanted to punch himself thinking the boy standing in front of him was so handsome, in such a moment. But, yeah, it wasn't the moment. Jungkook tried to ignore this fact and tried to make eyes contact with Jimin. Jimin did not look good. He had a dried blood on the face and he looked very weak. Jungkook begins to worry. He coughs and tells him.-I'll take you home. I assure you I'm not like the other guy.-N-no ... I don't want to.-I assure you, I want your good. I am kinda worried.You don't look in good shape, as a simple person I want to help you. I'm sorry for what happened to you with the other--He w-wanted to h-help me too...Jungkook spent a good time analyzing what the boy in front of him has just said.-Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood the situation. But ... uh ... look, my name is Jungkook. I can help you go home, I offer you this help.Jimin observes Jungkook. He does not know why he feels something new in his heart. Is that what sympathy, empathy, good heart looks like? It has been an eternity since Jimin did not feel this feeling. A feeling of reassurance. There may be people on this earth who care. He decides to jump into the water. What will he lose anyway? He had nothing.-I dont have a home ...Jungkook does not understand what Jimin just said again. How is this, no home? His mind screams confusion.-I dont- ... what?-I was chased from my home ... I dont know where to go...The two boys look into each other's eyes. The moment was intense. Both of them don't know what floats in this atmosphere. But Jungkook has just made a decision that may change his life.-What's your name?
-Jimin.
-Jimin, I'll help you. Hoseok gets up and wipes his face. He had blood running from his nose. Filthy bastard, he thinks. He decides to call Taehyung for a second time tonight.
Phone call:
-Tae, I just got hit by an as*hole while trying to help a poor guy.-Hobi, slow down, I dont get it ... are you ok?-Yes, but the thing is I think it was Jungkook. I didn't see his face well goddam it, but when he hit me his mask fell and I recognized him, I'm sure it's him ...-What? what are you going to do? Confront him?-No..Yes I think. You know how much I dont like him. And besides, my conscience is not quiet. He brought the guy with him and I'm worried now.-Ok tomorrow, we'll see him.Hoseok was literally pissed. But there were other things in his mind. Who was this guy and why did he affect Hoseok's consciousness so much? He goes out of the neighborhood and takes a taxi to Taehyung's house. Jungkook had decided to call his driver. Jimin didn't know why, but he decides to trust Jungkook.The car drives towards Gagnam with the two boys sitting back completely silent. Jimin wasn't sure what is happening to him. Where does he take him? He feels bad for the other guy, he could have followed him too, why Jungkook? But for now, with all the shit in his life, he does not think about it, someone just saved him. Literally.
Arrived at a large ediffice, the car goes to the indoor parking. It stops next to an elevator and Jungkook gets out of the car telling Jimin to get off too. Jimin doesn't speak and just follow him. They climb to the 22nd floor, coming out of the elevator, Jungkook walks to a luxurious door as much as the others on the same floor. Jimin always behind him gives no reaction on the place. Once inside the penthouse, Jimin asks him:
-I will not ask you anything else, but I would like to know why you brought me here?
Jungkook doesn't answer, he looks at Jimin. Jimin raises his head and their eyes meet. They settle for a good 30 seconds without saying anything and all of a sudden, Jimin puts his shoes back on and goes back to the door. Jungkook takes him by the arm and brings him back to him. He approaches Jimin's face and says, almost in a whisper:
-I'll give you a place to sleep and eat for tonight, you're lost Jimin, let me help you.
Jimin looks at him and doesn't answer back. It was clearly not the moment, but Jungkook begins to contemplate Jimin's face and stops his gaze on his lips. Jungkook stares at these lips and his mind went blank. Jimin breathed hard and Jungkook backs away. He begins to walk to the big stairs. Jimin behind him, they both climb the stairs and Jungkook stops next to a room.
-You'll sleep in this room for today, make yourself at home. There is also food inside a little fridge in the room. If you need anything, my room is at the end of this corridor.
Jimin not knowing what to say, just answered ''Thank you''.
Jungkook walks to his room, leaving Jimin behind him. After texting Namjoon about what happened, he goes to the large closet of his room. He opens a door and takes a box, he comes out of the closet and goes to his bed. He opens the box and takes a picture. If things go this way, should I worry or reassure myself?, he thinks.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The next day, Jungkook wakes up and runs outside the room. He completely forgot his mother wakes up early. And what if she saw Jimin. Oh no! Jungkook walks along the corridor. Jimin's door is closed. Is he still sleeping? He goes to the kitchen and his mother is already sitting on the big dining table. She looks at him. She tells him directly:-He left.-What?-Jungkook I dont know who he was, but when I got up I found him leaving the house. I don't appreciate you bringing friends without warning and they try to go out softly like that as if it was your little secret.-Mom, what the..-LANGUAGE. I won't accept my son to talk like those little poor kids.Jungkook was tired of it. He is very angry, picking up his car keys and he is heading for the exit. His mother gets up and rushes to him. Her expression changes rapidly, from the strict and authoritarian mother to the sweet mother, but remains manipulative.-I am done with you. I am out.-But son...honey...you have to eat.-I said. I. Am. Done. Leave me alone for today.He slams the door, leaving his mother confused. He regrets his actions, but he can't anymore. It was too much. How can she just control his life like this? And, Jimin. He left without even saying anything, Jungkook started being very worried.He starts his car and goes to school. But before that, he texted Yoongi to ask him a favor. He knows Yoongi is very good at finding people. He asks if he can find Jimin.At school, Hoseok and Taehyung don't even bother to go to their lockers. They meet at the entrance of the school after their drivers have dropped them. They walked straight to Jungkook's locker. Being younger, Jungkook's locker was in the first year section. The students in this section were surprised to see Taehyung and Hoseok walking in their corridors. Many begin to whisper and others begin to follow. They don't know what will happen, but some know something big is going to happen.Hoseok had the reputation of being the little troublemaker of the school, since he doesn't support his father controling him, he does everything upside down, he doesn't have good grades, he is always in detention and sometimes even expelled from school for some days because of some fights, the other students feared him, but not as much as they feared Jungkook. And this fact irritated Hoseok. Why did he decide to provoke him today, for a simple fist on his face? No, it was his chance to show him that he must also be feared. Jin doesn't understand why Hoseok had this mentality and always reminds him to act his age, but Hoseok isn't thinking the same.Hoseok walks and manages to recognize Jungkook from behind. Everyone knows Jungkook, the news only talks about his father and the fact that Jungkook could be the next CEO of the biggest companies in Korea, since he is the heir. Hoseok approaches. As soon as he is behind, he knocks the locker next to him, he takes Jungkook by the shoulder and turns him, a fist near to strike. Jungkook is shocked but doesn't let it go, he takes Hoseok by the arm and also prepares a fist in the other hand.A crowd begins to form around the two boys. Taehyung approaches, he begins to hit Jungkook's locker and empty his locker. Hoseok strikes first. Jungkook loses his balance, but doesn't fall, he gets to stand up and he is ready to give it a shot too. On the verge of hitting Hoseok, a voice stops them.-Please, stop...Hoseok, Jungkook and Taehyung turn their heads towards the voice. The crowd stops shouting and turns towards the direction of the voice too. Jungkook was shocked to know who stood in front of them.Jimin.Hoseok also recognizes him. He asks:-what? what are you doing here..Jimin doesn't answer, well, he tries to say something, but falls in front of the three boys. He has just fainted. Jungkook runs towards his direction, understanding what has just happened. Taehyung doesn't understand what's happening yet, but looks to help Jungkook. Jungkook turns his head towards Hoseok and shouts to him:-CALL THE AMBULANCE. HURRY UP!Jungkook looks up and sees Namjoon coming to where they are.-Hyung, it's Jimin ... we have to take him to the hospital ... he just fainted.-ok I'm coming with you, did you call the ambulance? I will do it ...Hoseok turned to Namjoon and said:-I just did. They will arrive soon, we must bring him to the entrance. It will be faster.Taehyung verified if Jimin's head was not hit.-ok, he didn't hit the head we can carry him them... The three guys were going to help Jungkook, but Jungkook managed to carry Jimin alone. They run towards the entrance. The ambulance arrived 10 minutes later. The paramedic asks that 2 people follow them, Jungkook and Hoseok board instinctively. Jungkook was a little frustrated, but he couldn't do anything for now, Jimin was more important. The ambulance takes off towards the hospital.Namjoon: I just called Yoongi, he's going to bring us there ....Taehyung: you mean the rapper?Namjoon: yeah if you dont mind, well actually now we dont careTaehyung: ok ...Yoongi arrives soon after in an orange lamborghini, Namjoon and Taehyung board and the 3 guys follow the ambulance.On the way, Taehyung calls Jin and he says he will join them. Taehyung and Jin were worried about Hoseok. But they also know Hoseok is worrying about that Jimin.In the ride, the six guys didn't know what to think, but also they didn't know yet that this Jimin will change their lives. Especially for Jungkook.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
The ambulance arrives at the hospital, they stop near the emergencies, the paramedics bring Jimin to the intensive care unit & Jungkook and Hoseok follow closely. Hoseok stops when he sees the doctors enter a room reserved for professionals only, but Jungkook continues to run behind the boat. One of the doctors tells Jungkook he can not continue with them and he has to wait in the waiting room patiently. Jungkook goes to the chairs and sits, Hoseok does the same thing.Shortly after, Namjoon, Yoongi and Taehyung arrived. Namjoon and Yoongi sit next to Jungkook, while Taehyung takes a seat next to Hoseok. Silent, they're all waiting until Jin arrives. 10 minutes passed in a total silence. However, Jin is the one who breaks it by asking:-Ok, what is actually happening guys?Jungkook, not knowing Jin, answers:-Someone needs help, he fainted and we're here'.Hoseok: stop lying, the guy came for you, we were in the first years section corridors, clearly, you did something to him yesterday...Jungkook: shut up you were about to assault him...i helped himHoseok: wha-wtf dude, I was going to help the guy, stop pretending you have a heart for a goddamn second..Namjoon: Jungkook brought him to his house because the guy, whose name is Jimin btw, had nowhere to go. So Hoseok you can just tell us what are YOU doing here...Taehyung: yall act like my friend had something to do with Jimin's situation right now...wtfYoongi: shut the fvck up all of you, please. It's not the time to make a scene here. There's someone in intensive care right now. Let's wait what the doctors will say...Taehyung: I hope he'll be fine... 25 minutes later, a doctor leaves the reserved section. He goes to the young men. The 6 guys get up instinctively, and Jungkook and Hoseok ask at the same time:-is he fine? Is he okay?Doctor: Don't worry, your friend is fine. You can go home, Jimin will stay with us for few days. However, who is the legal guardian, please ?The boys look at each other one by one and no one dares to speak. Jungkook decides to say ''I am ''.Doctor: Follow me, please.Jungkook: y-yes A little further, the doctor looks at Jungkook. He notices that he is a little nervous.Doctor: I know you're not the legal guardian and none of the guys here are. We have tried to call Jimin's parents, but they are unreachable at the moment. So, young man, I trust you. However, we need to talk with his parents as soon as possible. Jimin is not in critical condition, but he is not doing well. He is malnourished & he has not slept for a long time. He is in a very weak state. At this point we can't evaluate his mental state, but he has to stay with us a few days to evaluate and monitor him. You can wait until he wake to see him, in a few hours or so.Jungkook was reassured, but also shocked to know that Jimin is in this state. He goes back to the group of guys and tells them:-You can go back to school, I stay for Jimin.Hoseok: I'll stay too, you guys can go, I'll text you. (He addresses Taehyung and Jin).The four guys leave and only Jungkook and Hoseok remain in the waiting room. Jungkook looks at Hoseok for a good minute & finally decided to say something.Jungkook: I'm sorry for yesterday, I'm not usually the first to apologize, but I admit yesterday I hit you without knowing what was really going on...Hoseok: what a snob! But yeah ... sorry too, I didn't want to attack you this morning, but you really have that freakin face i hate...Jungkook: stfu, sir whose father has hundreds of hotels ...Hoseok: do you think I decided this life?Jungkook: Dont tell me you're complaining?Hoseok does not know why he decides to tell Jungkook this, but he just does it.Hoseok: I have a father who forces me to give up my dearest dream to follow his steps, steps that I dont wanna follow...but..anyway, who are you to understand...Jungkook: I understand, I'm the same, my parents have stuck to me an image that I am not.Hoseok and Jungkook look at each other, and at that moment they start laughing.After a few minutes, Hoseok asks:-Jungkook, why are you here, honestly? Jungkook: Jimin. Hoseok looks at Jungkook and he kinda understands why he is here. He decides to not ask more.A few minutes pass in silence, until Jungkook receives a text message from his mother. Suddenly, he looks pissed. Hoseok asks if he is okay and Jungkook lied saying yes.
Text messages between Jungkook and his mom:
Mom: Where are you? The school called, you're not there. I am angry. Answer me now.Jk: At the hospital.Mom: What? Are you okay? I am coming right there, what unit? The emergencies?Mom: ANSWER THE CALLS.Jk: Leave me alone. Don't come. It's Jimin, not me.Mom: Jimin? Who is he?Mom: Oh boy this morning ...Mom: he left without feeding himself in the morning ... he was so weakMom: but why do you worry so much, his parents must be there now ...Jk: What? How could you let him go like this? HOW? I'm really sick of you. You will leave me alone. I'm not coming home tonight.Mom: But Maria will come ... stop, stop your ridiculous behaviors, what is wrong you with you lately?Jk: Tell her to get lost.Mom: JUNGKOOK! I AM COMING TO GET YOU.

A few hours later, the doctor comes back to the two young men sitting in the chairs of the waiting room.Doctor: You can go see Jimin.Hoseok was sleeping, and the doctor's voice woke him up. Jungkook and he get up and follow the doctor to Jimin's room.As they entered, Jimin saw them walking toward him. Once next to him, Jimin looks at Jungkook and Jungkook looks at him, they don't speak, but Jimin tells him, through his eyes, ''I am okay don't worry''. And this simple look soothes Jungkook, as if all his anxiety has disappeared, even if he was still worried. His heart beats faster, but seeing Jimin awake and a little in good condition reassures him more than anything.Jimin turns his head and sees Hoseok. Confused he then asks:-how?Hoseok: long story, how are you?Jimin: im o-okay ...Hoseok: My name is Jung Hoseok, I'm going to the same school as Jungkook ..Jimin: I'm Park Jimin,Jhope: I know..I mean, yes, nice to meet you, I'm here to help you too.The doctor steps forward.Doctor: Jimin, you should talk to them, okay?Jimin: yes ...The doctor leaves the room leaving the three boys alone. Jungkook sits on the edge of the bed and takes JImin's hand. He touches it quietly and notices that Jimin was a little shocked but he lets himself be done little by little. Hoseok notices this gesture, but decides not to show anything as an expression. He looks at Jimin.Hoseok: So, Jimin tell us what's going on, we're here to help you..Jimin is silent for a moment. After a few seconds, he suddenly drops Jungkook's grip. Jimin becomes insecure, why are they trying to help him. Who are they? Why him? Jimin did not believe the kindness of people. If that were the case, he would not be in this state. He could not trust them. How is it possible?Jimin: What are you playing at? Do you think you are guardian angels? Why are you there? Who the fuck told you I need your help? Go away!Hoseok moves forward.Hoseok: Listen to me, I have a shitty life, I'm not the best son for my father and I want to show him that I am one, I want to repay my sins. And seeing you in this situation, it's a joke to me, I'm a guy who doesn't like the life that leads him, but I realize I could just shut up because there are people worse than me, like you in this state. So, I want to help. In other words, by saving you, I am also saving myself.Jungkook and Jimin watch him shocked, because Hoseok almost had tears in his eyes. Jungkook tries to calm the mood.Jungkook: We are friends. Since now, consider us friends.
