Glow in The Dark

Work Text

Ochako’s bedroom ceiling was always painted a light pinky-purple. It was the way she liked it from when she was 4 to now. But now she didn't sleep at home and she missed that familiar ceiling that had been replaced by a dull white one. She didn't want to go to the hassle of painting it (Did Aizawa even let them do it in the first place? She wasn’t sure) but she could do the second-best option - putting glow in the dark stars on her ceiling. She got them when she’d had an astrology phase as a kid when she had discovered her quirk. Her parents seemed to want to develop her interest further than her previous interests - which sucked but in all honesty she was glad they didn’t let her take ballet. At home, she had stacks and stacks of astronomy, science and space books. The ones she loved the most were the more sciency books with the detail and information packed in them to the brim. They also helped her develop her English in her free time when she’d picked up their English copies for one Christmas. Therefore, they’d come with her on the move to the dorms. It wasn’t just books though, she also had a ton of models and a few space-themed shirts. A good wall was dedicated to posters at home and she still had more waiting to be put up. But she just didn't have the time to.The glow in the dark stars she had found the time to put up and her bedroom felt unnatural when she couldn't see them. So now she had them here at the dorms as well. But today all she wanted was to rip the stars of the ceiling so she couldn't see anything. She wanted to be consumed by the void because all she wanted was to not exist. Not after today. What else did she have to live for? It, or rather he knocked on the door and called out to her. “U-Uraraka?” He sniffled and she sat up from the floor smiling. Her tears splashed against her mouth as she opened the door, and leaned against it for support as Izuku stepped in and gave her a huge hug. She could hear his tears even with her head on his shoulder. "I-Is..." She tries to say something but she breaks down sobbing again. Today's been too much and she clings onto Izuku harder for comfort. “Toru..” Izuku takes her head off his shoulder and leads her to rest her head against her pillow on her bed. It feels stiff below her head but its support nonetheless. “W-What happened to her?” She wants her question to sound innocent but she can’t help the venom from seeping out from the undertones. She’s livid. Part of the reason she’d quarantined herself to her room was so that she couldn’t injure or kill her. It was hard not to open her door, walk back to wherever the fuck she was now and punch her. Float her up - she holds her head with her hands. No! She’s not gonna stop to Toru’s level, she will not kill anyone, never! Even thinking about it makes her feel sick.Iida’s death had been drawn out unbearably long. With only a knife to the back, it could’ve easily been healed. They’d all been through minute wounds that were similar. But the circumstances were horrid - all telephone lines were cut off and connections were few and far between. No one came to help. What could be worse? His wound refused to heal and seemed to only get worse with each attempt. 1-A did try to heal him by themselves but despite their best efforts, they couldn’t save him. He’d lost to much blood by the time they’d scraped together enough bandages to even potentially seal the wound. So they’d had to sit there as their classmate slowly bled to death. She distinctly remembered holding his hand as he took his last breaths, their hands intertwined. Eventually, the pro’s came but it was to late for anything to be done. His body was covered and carried away as the pro’s tried to console the students yet it felt forced. She didn’t feel better at all.Thankfully, there was a small silver lining in that the killer had been caught. However, who the killer was seemed to put salt in the wound - Toru Hagakure. The almighty traitor that had been mentioned a few months ago but Ochako’d never suspected it to be more than a rumour. But the dead body and multiple classmates in the hospital proved that hopeful theory wrong. She’d been caught by one of the security traps and been arrested immediately. Soon after her arrest, she was admitted to the same hospital as the others but in a separate ward to them, in an attempt to prevent any further fighting. After a few days to let them rest, the rest of them had gone up as a class to check on their classmates. All the wounds were small but the knives used were poisoned and laced with chemicals that did damage to the skin and potentially more of their classmates. She was thankful they had been covered up with bandages. Most of the visits went smoothly, Tsuyu made small puns in between grunts of pain, Koda exclusively signed and they were shooed away by a bird rapping its claw into the glass and Aoyama seemed content among all the glitter included in his cards. The rest? Kaminari had tried to grope her when she’d gotten to close, Tokoyami’s head was covered in bandages and when one had slightly unravelled, she’d puked. His skin was patchy and red underneath. They’d quickly left after that. Worst of all, Ojiro seemed in heavy denial of what Hagakure had done despite his arm being in a splint and his left leg covered in bandages. She’d walked out of his room fuming before breaking down in tears and running back to her room, where she’d been for the past half an hour or more. “What happened to Hagakure?” Izuku ponders the question for a bit before clicking his fingers. “She’s currently with Recovery Girl but she won’t be coming back to class for a good while. Maybe not all.” She grunts in response and he rubs her shoulders. “I’m mad about it to.””She deserves to rot for what she did.” She grumbles pulling her legs up and rolling into a ball. Tears prick at her eyes again and she wipes them away. “I’m not gonna apologise for s-slapping her.””That’s fair.” Izuku replies. “I’d slap her to if she wasn’t in a hospital bed in all honesty.” She laughs a bit at that but still remains curled up in her ball. “Who are you mad at Uraraka?” He asks her and she looks up.”Wh-what?” She whispers. She’s mad at nearly everyone at this point.”You’ve got a lot of pent up anger about Iida.” He states and she further curls up. He’s too good at analysis of a situation. “So let it out. Tell me who you want to scream at.” It's uncomfortably silent as she ponders the question. Who is she mad at? Is she right to be mad at them? With a sigh, she uncurls from her ball and stares at the ceiling with her eyes closed, still not ready to face the stars. “Hagakure of course.” A pause. “And Ojiro for defending her fucking actions.” She punched her pillow and takes a deep breath. “And me I guess.” Her eyes start to prick and she rolls back onto her pillow. He looks shocked and takes her hands in his.”It’s not your fault Uraraka” He whispers to her as she tries to wipe her tears away. “Bu-But...” The words seem to meld together and she can’t tell what word is which. “Ilethimdie!Iwatchedashediedfromthatstupidstupidstupidknifewound!Itsallsounfairwhydidthishappentouswhatdidwedotodeservethisweregoodpeopleright.Hagakurewhydidshebetrayuslikethuswhydidshedothattohimwhywhywhywhywhywh-“ Izuku slaps her and she stops, clutching her cheek. Looking up, he’s biting his lower lip in uncertainty and she scoots further back on her bed.”Sorry about that.” He says and she slowly nods, still in shock. “But Ochako let me tell you this.” He sets his hands on his knees and she watches a few tears fall from his eyes. “It wasn’t fair of Iida to die. It wasn’t right for Hagakure to do what she did. But that’s what happened and if we focus on how unfair it all is we’ll feel worse.” He stumbles slightly over his words and she almost feels as if he’s telling this to himself as reassurance. Scooting closer, they hug again but this time she can feel his tears on her shirt.“H-hey Izuku?” The words fly out of her mouth and she doesn’t wait for a response. “Would it be better if I d-died instead?” At that, he hugs her tighter and she starts to cry again. “Who even really cares about me at the end of the day!” If Iida had survived and she had died what would he be doing now? He’d mourn her as she mourns him. He cared about her. Her classmates care about her. They hold each other tightly and cry. It makes her feel a bit better in a strange way. She moves to release Izuku’s grip but he holds on tight. “What are you doing?” She hiccups. “Izu-“She’s interrupted by a piercing pain in her back and a brief scream before a hand clamps over her mouth. Looking into his eyes, a crazed look has spread across his face as he laughs while her back bleeds, dripping onto the mattress. The knife carves slowly upwards before stabbing into the middle of her back again and she resists the urge to slump forwards from blood loss. Instead she coughs up blood onto his shoe and his face blanks before the knife starts to crawl up her back and into her back, each movement more painful than the last, her spine aching as she cries into his hand. Wasn’t Hagakure’s betrayal painful enough? Where was the Izuku that she had poured her heart out to moments before? Betrayal was all that was on her mind when she blacked out from the pain.On the other hand, Midoriya wasn’t done with the body. He finished at the middle of the neck and pulled the knife away, watching it drip into her mattress. Then he grabbed her hands and got to work stabbing a hook into each wrist, making sure each was attached with rope. Her actual fingers and hands, he scratched and cut into all over apart from the finger pads. They were too precious to waste so easily. Standing up, he glanced at the ceiling before attaching two small blunt ceiling hooks. After that, he grabbed the two ropes and hoisted her up onto his makeshift ‘hanger’. Thank All Might for his quirk and training, otherwise, he’d never have been able to hoist her up in a way that wouldn't incriminate him. Tying them off, he was almost satisfied with his crime scene. Getting himself to her height, he closed both her eyes and his before snapping her neck as cleanly as he could. When he opened his eyes, he was pleased. She looked gruesome and horrific, just as he wanted. A few more slashes around her thighs and legs then perfecto. He could leave. He didn’t leave for a while. The way her body was lit up by her pathetic glow in the dark stars was ethereal and if he focused hard enough the blood was all gone, her back wouldn’t have that horrific scar, her head wouldn’t be halfway around her neck and countless other things. Maybe she was alive and this was a clone, a twin or a lookalike. But the pool of blood building up on the floor couldn’t be ignored. Ignoring reality was unhealthy. And reality? Reality was unfair.
