Tell Me About the Future

Entire Work

Work Text

It was night time. The thoughts of what could've happened if you had returned to the future were pestering you, and you couldn't sleep. Even after tossing and turning for what felt like forever, you just couldn't find a way to sleep. 5, 10, and then 20 minutes go by and you're still unable to sleep. It's then that you decide to take a walk and try to clear your head. You try to open your door as quietly as you can, so you don't wake anyone. But also because Hideyoshi would lecture you again if he found out you weren't sleeping. Finally, you found your way outside to a garden. The fresh floral scent of the plants growing there beckoned you to pick there to clear your head. And so you did. You sat down on the wooden path and looked up at the sky to see a sea of stars and a bright crescent moon. It seemed calmer than usual tonight, although there was still a calming breeze that made the flowers sway slightly. It wasn't enough to banish your thoughts, but it was a pretty sight nonetheless.Ieyasu couldn't sleep. The memories of being a hostage were haunting him again. He thought they had stopped again, but here they are, pestering and taunting him like a high school bully. They were a nuisance, and he wished they'd go away, just like... Someone he won't name. He didn't want to continue that thought, so he got up and took a walk. The sight before him was magical. Somehow in his sleepy haze, he had found his way to the garden. And apparently so had you. A light breeze made your hair sway to the side, and Ieyasu was convinced he had never seen anything more beautiful in his life."Ieyasu?" Your voice snapped him back to reality, "What are you doing here?" He sat down beside you and said, "I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a walk." So he was in the same situation as you. "I couldn't sleep either. I couldn't stop thinking about how much better off you all would be if I had left," Ieyasu turned his head to look at you, your eyes were fixed on the ground, "You mean if you went back to your own time?" You nodded in response, and not 2 seconds after, you found yourself wrapped in his arms, "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard." He said quietly, "if you left..." he paused for a second, the thought too painful to process, "I'd be... Really sad." He pressed his forehead onto your shoulder, "Ieyasu, do you really mean that?" You asked, and he raised his head to look you in the eyes and placed his hands on your shoulders, "Of course I do, I wouldn't lie about something like this." Happiness took over your self doubt, so much happiness that you couldn't handle it. Your eyes teared up, and you threw your arms around him again. "Thank you, Ieyasu." You said, and he could feel his face heating up, not that he would ever admit that. There was a comfortable silence for a while, until Ieyasu spoke up, "Hey, what was the future like?" You thought for a moment, there were so many things you could talk about, but eventually you decided to tell him about modern medicine. "Well we have much better health care in the future. I think the oldest person in the world is about 130 years old, but most perfectly healthy people live until they're about 85." Ieyasu was fascinated by this, "How'd they do that?" He asked, eager to find out more about this fascinating phenomenon. "I'm not really familiar with the specifics of it, I was never any good at science." You replied. Of course, you made clothing before you came here, that didn't require much more than simple biology. "I could tell you what I remember from school though, if you wanted me to." Ieyasu smiled, "go ahead." and you told him about everything until you could feel yourself finally falling asleep.
