“Like no offense, Gukkie, but you’d be a shitty boyfriend,” Taehyung snorted. He, Jeongguk and Hoseok were currently hanging out in their favourite diner. They had something to eat and after that they ordered beers. It was just the three of them tonight since their other friends had different plans.“What? I wouldn’t!” Jeongguk argued.“Please, you haven’t been in a serious relationship your entire life,” Taehyung looked at him pointedly, running a hand through his freshly dyed silver locks.“I dated in high school!” the younger argued.“Please, couple of weeks don’t count, that’s not a serious relationship,” Hoseok jumped in.“You are not in a relationship either!” the brunette shot back again.“But we’ve dated some people and were with them for at least couple of months, doing typical couple stuff. All you’ve been doing since you came to college last year is fucking around,” Taehyung argued. He and Jeongguk became basically best friends since they met last year. Jeongguk was a freshman and Taehyung a sophomore back then and they clicked together instantly. After that, Taehyung brought Jeongguk into his group of friends.“Well, sorry that I wanna enjoy my college years! It’s not like either of you is innocent, you fuck around too!”“Yeah, but that’s not the point, Guk. Tae’s right, you’d be a shitty boyfriend, just admit it. You are basically aromantic,” Hoseok came in the conversation again."I am not aromantic, that is something completely different. I just don't like the romantic stuff, I think it's waster of time," the younger scoffed, adding: "Is that like some condition to be in a relationship or what?"He just didn't believe in all that romantic crap, he thought it was useless and pretentious.“But people like a bit of romance in a relationship, Gukkie, that’s my point! Everyone wants to go on romantic dates sometimes,” Taehyung gave him a little grin.“Not everyone. I don’t so there have to be people out there with the same opinion,” Jeongguk shrugged.“Whatever, I’m just saying that you are probably better off with just fucking,” Taehyung waved his hand dismissively.“True, people would be disappointed anyway, if the rumours going around the campus about you are true, all the lonely souls who want to get laid from time to time would lose a great fuck with you,” Hoseok snickered.Jeongguk leaned back, thinking about the conversation. He’s always been naturally competitive and when someone told him that he couldn’t do something, he went and proved them wrong. Do his friends think that he would be a shitty boyfriend and that he can’t be romantic? Challenge accepted.*“Tae!” Jeongguk called out to his friend when he spotted him walking out of the classroom. Taehyung was the only one from their circle of friends who he wasn’t using the honorifics with, or hardly ever did.“Gukkie? What are you doing here?” Taehyung blinked in surprise.“I know you have a free period so I thought I might take you for a coffee,” the younger grinned innocently.“Okay,” Taehyung eyed him suspiciously but then shrugged: “Let’s go, I could actually use some caffeine.”“Here, let me help you,” Jeongguk grabbed Taehyung’s backpack and threw it over his own shoulder. It was quite heavy since Taehyung had a lot of classes today.“What’s gotten into you?” the older asked with a raised eyebrow. Jeongguk was stronger than him and he was quite ripped but he never ever did this.“Just helping,” the brunette shrugged.“Guk, what’s going on?” Taehyung gave him a pointed look as they left the school and were slowly walking towards their favourite café.“I was thinking about what you said the other day about me being a shitty boyfriend,” Jeongguk said.“Gukkie, let it go,” Taehyung sighed: “You know I didn’t mean it in a mean way right? You might not be romantic or something but you have so many other qualities and I am sure that when the time comes and you fall in love, that person will be lucky to have you.”“Maybe but still. You are a lucky winner of my experiment!” Jeongguk grinned as they walked in the café and ordered their drinks.“What experiment?”“I’ll prove to you that I am a good boyfriend material,”“You don’t have to prove me anything,” Taehyung rolled his eyes: “What the hell do you even mean by the experiment?”“I am gonna woo you so much that you will change your mind about me being a shitty boyfriend soon,” Jeongguk smirked.“Are you kidding me?” Taehyung groaned.“Seriously, Tae, I wanna try it how people do it, you know? I am actually kinda interested. I mean, I know that it’ll be pretty boring for me but I can go out of my way. I am gonna blow your pants off with my attention and gestures, just wait and see!”“God, why didn’t I just shut up?” Taehyung whined but didn’t protest further. He knew that when Jeongguk wanted to do something, he went for it. Besides, he’d be basically helping him, right? If Jeongguk was ever interested in someone in the future and wanted to try a serious relationship, he’d know how to do it.“You know what? What the hell, let’s do it!” Taehyung grinned and they shook their hands for confirmation.*Taehyung was just working on a project for one of his classes when his phone buzzed. He wasn’t really that surprised when he saw a text from Jeongguk, the younger wasn’t replying in their group conversation with the others often but the two of them texted quite a lot.

Taehyung nearly choked but then laughed. What the hell was that supposed to mean?

Wtf Gukkie did you get high with Yoongi-hyung again?
He didn’t have to wait for a text for a long time, it came pretty quickly which wasn’t very common occurrence with Jeon Jeongguk.
Jeongguk:
You’re my experiment remember?
Im trying to impress you and prove that I can be good boyfriend
So get ready for Friday, babe, because you’re gonna have a great time with me
I’ll pick you up at yours at seven, dress up nicely
Taehyung snorted, shaking his head. He just thought that this whole situation and deal were hilarious and stupid. On the other hand, he spent a lot of time with Jeongguk anyway, they’d be hanging out just like the previous times, it’s not like they were ever bored or awkward together or something. So he texted back, confirming the ‘date’.Friday came rather quickly and he got dressed nicely just like Jeongguk asked him. He didn’t know how nicely exactly so he opted for a soft shirt and black jeans, casual yet fancy.He felt a bit nervous if he was being honest and he didn’t know why. This wasn’t a real date, this was Jeongguk for god’s sake, his best friend. They will just go out and have a good chat and laugh like always.Couple of minutes before seven, there was a knock on the door. Taehyung opened it and his breath caught in his throat a little. Jeongguk was standing there, his brown hair parted a bit on his forehead, black shiny jeans hugging his legs and a black leather jacket thrown over a black shirt. He looked really damn good. Taehyung wasn’t dumb or straight, he was very well aware of Jeongguk being handsome as hell but since they were friends, he hardly ever paid attention to it anymore.What really knocked his breath out of his lungs however was a bouquet of beautiful red roses that the younger held in front of him.“Hello, gorgeous, for you,” Jeongguk gave him a crooked smile and handed the flowers over to him.“T-thanks,” Taehyung stuttered like some teenage girl and he buried his nose to the bouquet, hiding his slightly flushed cheeks.Jeongguk went in for a while so Taehyung could put the roses in the water. He was really damn surprised by the gesture. It was classic and kinda cheesy but it still pleased him. He’s gotten a lot of presents from his past boyfriends or even admirers but he’s never gotten flowers and the fact that his aromantic friend was the first one to gift it to him definitely threw him off the track for a second.“Where are we going?” Taehyung asked as he returned to the small entry room and put on shoes and light jacket.“That’s a surprise of course,” Jeongguk grinned. Jeongguk wasn’t here with the car so Taehyung supposed it wasn’t anything far away.Only ten minutes later, they were in a steak house. It wasn’t anything too fancy and expensive – they were broke college students after all – but it was nicer than places they usually hung out. Taehyung was pretty sure that Jeongguk had to make a reservation for Friday night and that alone left him impressed again.The dinner was nice and they had a really good time. Since they were friends, it was easy for them to talk just about anything and they were laughing the whole time, making some people look weirdly at them but they didn’t care, they never did.After a delicious dinner and two glasses of wine, they left, after Jeongguk insisted on paying because ‘this is a goddamn date, Tae, and I invited you so I should pay, that’s how it works, right?’.“Gotta say that you left quite an impression on me,” Taehyung chuckled when they went slowly back to Taehyung’s apartment. Normally they would just split and go to their places separately but Jeongguk insisted on walking Taehyung home since that was how dates usually went.“I’ll take it as a compliment, not bad for a first date, huh?” Jeongguk smirked, content with himself.“First date?” Taehyung looked at him with raised eyebrow.“Well, yeah, what experiment would it be if I took you out once? We are not done yet,”“If you insist,” Taehyung sighed but giggled afterwards. He’d be lying if he said that he didn’t want another ‘date’. The evening was great, he had a delicious dinner and bouquet of roses waiting for him at home so he wasn’t complaining.“Well, I believe that people usually part ways in front of the entry on their first dates,” Jeongguk stopped when they were in front of Taehyung’s building.“Yeah, that’s how it usually goes,” the older snickered.“I had a really good time tonight, I hope you wanna repeat it,” Jeongguk stepped in front of Taehyung, making the older suddenly slightly nervous. This just felt too real. Taehyung knew that Jeongguk was saying the typical cheesy stuff that he saw in romantic comedies since he had no experience with dating but it was still pushing right buttons in him. He was quite romantic so these kinds of gestures and cheesy lines usually worked on him.“Yeah, well, if you’ll come up with something at least equally nice,” Taehyung shrugged with a smile.“I’ll try. See you, Tae, good night,” Jeongguk grinned. Then he suddenly leaned in and planted a soft kiss on Taehyung’s cheek. The silver-haired man nearly gasped in shock. Not that they wouldn’t be touchy, they even gave each other teasing or playful kisses on cheeks or neck every now and then but they were usually wet, kinda disgusting smacks that left them both cringing. This kiss was something else, it was so gentle.“N-night, Gukkie,” Taehyung finally found his words again, blinking at the younger. He watched Jeongguk walk away for couple of seconds before he entered the building. This evening wasn’t honestly what he originally expected.*Jeongguk didn’t invite Taehyung for another ‘date’ but he didn’t stop with his attempts to woo him (attempts that were working a lot but Taehyung wouldn’t admit it).It was usually just small things but they were things that Taehyung usually appreciated the most when in relationship with someone. Jeongguk sometimes waited for him in front of the classroom, taking his bag and carrying it, sometimes he even showed up with a coffee or some snack. It was honestly just little things but Taehyung really liked it. He still couldn’t comprehend that those nice gestures were coming from his friend that has always been against such things.One day he came home to his tiny apartment from evening class, really exhausted after the whole day. Jimin was waiting for him inside which wasn’t anything unusual, he knew where Taehyung was hiding his spare key and he often let himself in without even texting the other in advance.“I ordered a take-out,” Jimin announced when Taehyung flopped face down on the bed.“You’re an angel, Jiminie, my true soulmate,” Taehyung mumbled, turning his head to the side and smiling gratefully.“By the way, this was on the doormat,” Jimin pointed at a small box on a coffee table.“What the hell is that?”“I don’t know, there is not even address, it couldn’t be delivered, someone had to bring it here. I didn’t open it,” the older shrugged. Taehyung was pretty intrigued actually. It was a bit weird and creepy that someone left a present for him by his door but he was naturally very curious person and it was also kinda romantic.He opened the small box and gasped in amazement. There was a beautiful silver bracelet. It wasn’t anything too fancy and probably not too expensive but it was gorgeous.“Wow, who is that from?” Jimin almost broke his legs to stand by Taehyung’s side. The younger of the two took out a small paper from the box. It was a message:
Hope you like the small gift. Let me take you out tomorrow evening. I’ll pick you up at nine – JK
Taehyung was left speechless. He wouldn’t think that the present would be from his friend, even though the younger has been wooing him for two weeks now. Jeon Jeongguk left him surprised once again.“Looks like he takes this experiment seriously,” Jimin chuckled when he read the message. Taehyung told him about this thing between him and Jeongguk and Jimin’s been teasing him with it a lot.“He’s just trying to prove his point, you know how competitive he is,” Taehyung mumbled and put the bracelet on. It looked really nice on his wrist.“Seems to me like he’s trying a bit too hard to just prove a point,” Jimin shrugged with a smirk.“What’s that supposed to mean?”“I don’t know, Tae, maybe there is something blooming,” Jimin wiggled his eyebrows and made a kissy face: “I mean, you had quite a crush on him when you met him.”“That was just a small infatuation because he is very hot and I am very gay. But since we became friends, it stopped, you know that,” the younger rolled his eyes.“Did it really?” Jimin looked at him smugly: “I don’t know, man, I’m just saying that with all these gestures and dates, you might be onto something, you’ve always had a great chemistry.”“I have a great chemistry with you too and I’d never wanna date your lame ass,” Taehyung deadpanned.“Of course not because I’m not Gukkie,” Jimin grinned teasingly and dodged a punch in a gut from his best friend.Taehyung prepared himself for another date the next day. Jeongguk didn’t specify what to wear so he just went for something casual, he supposed that if they were going somewhere fancy, he’d let him know. It was also pretty weird that he was picking him up so late but Taehyung wasn’t questioning it.As the nine o’clock was nearing, Taehyung was getting more and more excited. Not only because he’s gonna hang out with his friend but also because these surprise dates were really fun. There was this excitement about the whole thing, not knowing what the younger comes up with.Jeongguk picked him up – without any roses or a gift this time but Taehyung thought that the bracelet was great enough – and this time they actually went into his car. So they were driving somewhere further.“Did you like the bracelet?” Jeongguk asked as he started driving. Taehyung didn’t even try to ask about the plans, he knew Jeongguk wouldn’t tell him.“It’s beautiful, Gukkie, I love it,” Taehyung nodded sincerely and raised his hand to show the other that he was wearing it.“It looks good on you,” the younger smiled with a hint of self-satisfaction.“We’re going out of the city?” Taehyung blinked in surprise when he noticed that they were on a hallway leading out.“Yep, my next plan can’t be realized very well in Seoul,” Jeongguk replied mysteriously. The ride wasn’t that long but it still took at least forty minutes till they stopped. Taehyung was confused as hell because they were literally in the middle of nowhere, it was dark as hell, only the headlights of the car were illuminating their surroundings.“What exactly are we doing here?” Taehyung asked sceptically when he followed Jeongguk out of the car.“We are having a picnic,” Jeongguk grinned and opened the trunk to get out the blankets and food that he packed.“Well, that’s amazing, I love picnics but we could do that in some park in the city,” Taehyung raised his eyebrow. He didn’t want to sound bitchy or ungrateful but he didn’t understand why Jeongguk took him all the way here.“Because we couldn’t stargaze in the city,” the younger winked as he lied one blanket down. Only now Taehyung looked up at the sky and gasped. There were almost no clouds tonight and the view was breathtaking. Growing up in Daegu and living now in Seoul, he couldn’t enjoy stars that much but he loved it.“How-how did you know that I love stars?” Taehyung looked at the younger with wide eyes and mouth.“You mentioned it once or twice, how you love watching stars when you go somewhere on holiday,” Jeongguk shrugged with a hint of blush. Taehyung was staring at him, completely speechless. He couldn’t believe that Jeongguk remembered it.“That is actually a perfect date, Gukkie,” Taehyung said quietly as they both sat down.“Well, that is my goal, isn’t it? I’m not doing anything half-assed,” Jeongguk smiled. It wasn’t cocky, more like sincere.They started eating the snacks that Jeongguk brought along with some sodas, just chatting and looking up at the sky occasionally. Everything was so peaceful and Taehyung loved it.They lied down on their backs when they finished eating, staring up, their legs and arms touching.“I seriously can’t believe that you were the one who took me on two of the best dates I’ve ever been to,” Taehyung said quietly without looking at the younger: “I thought you were aromantic, thinking that this is all just useless, lame crap?”“I still think that,” Jeongguk chuckled: “But I can go out of my way and do something nice when I know that the person likes it. I might not enjoy it like most people but that doesn’t mean I can’t do it for someone. I am just happy that you are enjoying it, Tae.”The older turned his head to look at the younger. He was honestly amazed. Of course he liked Jeongguk, for so many damn reasons, but he never saw this side of him and he really liked it. He didn’t know how attentive and selfless he could be.“You’re cold,” Jeongguk stated when he noticed from the corner of his eye that Taehyung shivered.“I’m fine,” Taeyhung shook his head.“Bullshit, come here,” Jeongguk pulled him closer to himself and threw a spare blanket over them. Taehyung got comfortable quickly, they didn’t usually cuddle that much, Jeongguk wasn’t really a cuddly person but they did from time to time so this wasn’t anything foreign. Taehyung made himself comfortable, snuggled to Jeongguk’s side, lying on his chest, while the younger’s arm rested wrapped around his waist. They were quiet, just staring up at the stars and Taehyung thought that this might be close to the most perfect date he’s ever been to.*For the third date, Jeongguk took Taehyung to a small rap battle in an underground club. They both liked these kinds of things so it wasn’t really boring for Jeongguk. Taehyung was once again astonished by his friend’s mind because every date he took him on was pretty much dreamy.They walked from the club since it wasn’t that far away from the campus and their apartments and the night wasn’t cold. It was nice to just walk and chat together, walking through quiet streets and park.“I’m starting to think that you fooled us all, Gukkie. I am suspecting you to be a hidden romantic,” Taehyung chuckled quietly after a short moments of silence between them.“Believe me, I’m not,” Jeongguk snorted.“Well, it’s just weird because everything you’ve done for me in the past three weeks was so spot on,” the older smiled slightly, looking at the ground with the tiniest blush.“It’s really not that hard with you, you know?”“Am I so easy to read and impress?”“No, that’s not what I meant,” the younger shook his head, looking at the other: “It’s just…we’ve been friends for over a year and I know pretty much everything there is to know about you. If I was doing this with someone else, I wouldn’t be that good, especially with a stranger. But with you, it’s easy because I know what you like.”Taehyung hummed and stayed quiet, thinking about it. He never really realized until now how much Jeongguk knew him and how much he knew Jeongguk. They haven’t been friends for years or something but it felt like it. He never realized how much Jeongguk was actually listening and remembering every single thing Taehyung said. Sometimes he mentioned something just in between the lines but the younger caught up on that. He was pretty sure that not even Jimin would remember his love for stargazing.“Still, it is really nice that you are so attentive,” Taehyung spoke up after a while: “It just proves that I was wrong. I think that when you find someone you really like one day, they will be happy to have you as their boyfriend, Gukkie, because even though you don’t believe in these romantic gestures, you still do it because it makes that person happy and that proves a lot.”“Thanks,” Jeongguk gave him a tight smile. He was wondering if now when Taehyung admitted that he was wrong about him being a shitty boyfriend, if that meant that their dates were over? He didn’t want to admit it but he really didn’t want this to be the last one, he kinda enjoyed doing these small things for Taehyung.They were walking side by side, bumping shoulders occasionally and Jeongguk got somehow bolder. He sneaked his hand to Taehyung’s and took it, intertwining their fingers slowly. Taehyung’s hand yanked little bit but he didn’t pull back.“Is..is this okay?” Jeongguk asked quietly: “I just figured, since we are practicing like normal dates…people usually hold hands, right?”“Yeah, Gukkie,” Taehyung chuckled: “I don’t mind.” And to prove his words, he squeezed Jeongguk’s hand a bit tighter. They continued their walk like that, all the way to Taehyung’s apartment.Jeongguk looked at the older as they were nearing the building. Taehyung looked so ethereal in the silver moonlight. He was definitely one of the prettiest people he’s ever seen and right now, he looked even more beautiful. It almost took Jeongguk’s breath away. He didn’t know what it was but he felt deep inside him that something was changing.*Only couple of days later, Taehyung got a text from Jeongguk, inviting him on another date. They were going to a party in the evening with the rest of their friends and Jeongguk reassured him that they’d go together in the afternoon and join the others in the club later.And well, Taehyung really didn’t want to decline. He wasn’t excited only because he wanted to see what Jeongguk came up with this time but also because he wanted genuinely spent time with him. He wasn’t dense, he started realizing that these dates felt less and less platonic and he also knew that some feelings were blooming deep inside him. Jimin was still teasing him, telling him that he and Jeongguk might as well finally get together but Taehyung always flipped him off. He didn’t even know what Jeongguk felt in the first place, he didn’t want this stupid little experiment to ruin their friendship just because he’d catch some feelings and Jeongguk wouldn’t.“Oh my god, Gukkie!” Taehyung shrieked excitedly when Jeongguk parked his car. The older immediately unbuckled the belt and jumped out, staring at the building in front of him with wide, excited eyes.“Do you like it?” Jeongguk chuckled, staring at his excitement fondly.“Are you kidding me? You’re really taking me to a dog shelter on a date? That is like the most perfect thing ever!” Taehyung exclaimed, running to the younger and tugging on his arm to finally go inside. Everyone knew that Taehyung was a huge dog person and he petted any dog he came across. Jeongguk was a dog person himself so this was actually a good date for him too but seeing Taehyung’s happiness was the most exciting thing.There was this one dog shelter not far from the campus where people could come and just cuddle and play with dogs and even taking them out for a walk as volunteers. Jeongguk was thinking about where to take Taehyung and he somehow discovered this and he knew it was perfect.Only five minutes later, Taehyung was rolling on the grass in the backyard of the shelter, surrounded by puppies that were attacking him with their love. Jeongguk was sitting with crossed legs close to Taehyung, petting some of the dogs too, but he was mostly busy staring and smiling at the older’s enthusiasm.Taehyung was laughing at the dogs’ antics and giggling and cooing when they did something cute. Jeongguk mentally patted himself for this idea because Taehyung looked just so damn happy. He felt tightening in his chest as he was watching his friend and he felt like he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on the planet at this very moment.“Come on, let’s take some of them for a walk,” Jeongguk came to Taehyung, offered his hand and pulled him up. He just arranged it with one of the shelter’s workers that they could take two dogs for a walk to a nearby park.Taehyung spent almost ten minutes picking two puppies to walk with because ‘oh my god, Gukkie, they are all so fucking cute, how can we pick just two?’ but they eventually settled on two most energetic ones.The workers insisted on taking them on the leash because the puppies had to learn how to do that and they went to a public park anyway so the dogs couldn’t just run freely.Few minutes later, they were in the park with two dogs on a leash. Taehyung was watching them with sparkling eyes as they were occasionally stumbling and skipping cutely and Jeongguk was mostly watching Taehyung because the glint in his eyes was just so pretty. At some point during the walk, their hands found their way to each other and they went through the rest of the walk with linked hands, fingers intertwined.They returned to the shelter at almost seven and after Taehyung cuddled almost every single dog there, they finally left. The huge smile on Taehyung’s face remained there even when Jeongguk drove them back to the campus. The plan was to park his car on his usual spot by his apartment and then go directly to the party to meet the others.“Today was perfect, Gukkie, thank you,” Taehyung spoke up when they were nearing Jeongguk’s apartment.“Don’t mention it, I am happy you enjoyed it,” the younger waved his hand dismissively.“No, you don’t understand, like really, thank you. No one ever did something like this for me. Like everyone knows that I love dogs but I don’t think anyone would ever think of something like this,” Taehyung looked at him sincerely with a small smile dancing on his lips.“It’s not like I had to force myself into anything, I love dogs too. And watching you playing with them and laughing was nice,” Jeongguk gave him quite an intense stare that made Taehyung look down on his lap with a blush.Thirty minutes later, they walked together into a packed club. They went to buy drinks first and then searched for their friends.“There you are, how was the date?” Jimin grinned and wiggled his eyebrows when they finally found them.“A date?” Namjoon looked confusedly between Jimin and the other two. Taehyung sighed and wanted to slap Jimin but to his surprise, Jeongguk started talking and told everyone about what they’ve been doing for the past month or so. Taehyung felt a small pang in his chest when Jeongguk talked about it as an experiment but he pushed it down because that was what it is after all. They weren’t real dates.The party went kinda crazy. All seven of them just had fun and drank, doing shots often and soon they were all tipsy and on a dance floor.Jeongguk found himself drifting closer to Taehyung and soon, they were dancing together. The older was laughing when Jeongguk started spinning him around and was swaying his hips that the younger eagerly grabbed. They were giving each other quite intense looks that were intensifying the more they drank.Suddenly someone pushed into Taehyung and the older stumbled forward, falling right against Jeongguk. The brunette instinctively wrapped his arms around his waist to prevent him from falling.Taehyung cursed under his breath but when he looked up, he was met with Jeongguk’s round eyes. His breath caught in his throat when he realized how close they were, their noses were almost touching.The look in Jeongguk’s eyes changed and Taehyung wasn’t able to pull away even if he wanted to. His heart started beating faster when he noticed the younger’s eyes slipping to his lips. He instinctively licked them and when he looked back at Jeongguk, he was already staring at him intently, still holding his waist.“Hey, losers, more shots!” Hoseok nudged Jeongguk in a shoulder which snapped them from the trance. Jeongguk let go of Taehyung and they both looked awkwardly everywhere just to not make an eye contact.They followed Hoseok to the bar and forgot about the weird moment.They were all having fun, sometimes chatting with some classmates they met, sometimes even with strangers.
