Anger. One of few emotions Dabi shows. One of the few emotions he exhibits towards you, and you towards him.You love him, and you think he at least cares about you. He's never said love, and you've only said it once - to which he didn't reply. But it was said and it settled into your relationship like a cat, purring quietly often and getting up to stretch every now and then. You fight more than the average couple, you suppose. Although, you both are wanted criminals and extremely dangerous villains, so the anger was somewhat expected to follow from your personalities to your relationship. And it's not like you're actually a couple. You're glorified roommates. Most of the fights are dumb, stupid reasons to argue; the toilet seat being left up, the milk being put on the door instead of in the fridge, laundry being left in the washer only to grow mildew-y. The need to fight with each other has burrowed into your lives and stayed there.Of course, there was always valid reasons to fight, too. You'll never forget the time Dabi brought home some random hookup and smirked when you caught him. All he had to say was, "Oops, thought you were out tonight."But did you leave? Of course not, it's your goddamn apartment. You kicked the girl out - threatening to kill her - and then fucked Dabi until the sun rose and kissed warmly against your back.Your relationship with Dabi started out as just sex. You were both angry, lonely, horny idiots. Craving any sort of touch, and not getting what you needed from anonymous bodies at bars. Pure, animalistic passion was what you received from Dabi, as if he knew exactly what you needed. And then you fell in love. You weren't supposed to fall in love. It wasn't part of the plan, but you suppose it was written in your stars. A firm believer that everything happens for a reason; you make your peace with it.You don't always remember you love him. And you're both still tip toeing, prodding at boundaries with each other.Today, he crosses one.Dabi has never hit you.Never hurt you when you didn't want him to. You don't hit him either. You assumed - hoped - there was a mutual respect to not hurting each other. But, when his fingers tighten in your hair and pull your neck back at an uncomfortable angle, you hate him. And your anger rushes to your head."Dabi, what-"He yanks your hair again and you choke on your words, hand slapping against his wrist and nails digging into his skin. You hadn't even done anything. You were just walking with him, trying to pass the time until your train came. You can over power him, you know it and he does too. When he yanks on your hair again a rush of arousal sparks in your stomach. But the anger in your veins is heavier than that. You lash out, your hair stands on end when your quirk stirs in your finger tips. Dabi hisses through his teeth and shoves your head forward."You used your fucking quirk on me?" his voice is calm, but his face is furious."You don't lay your goddamn hands on me," your words are laced with venom as you comb your fingers through your hair, pulling your hair ties out. It looked so nice today, up and braided, and now it's ruined. "It took me twenty minutes to do my hair today, you dickhead.""Oh, boo hoo," he sneers, fingers flexing as your quirk finally fades from his skin. When he speaks again, he sounds proud, almost, "I can't believe you used your quirk on me.""What else was I supposed to do, you were hurting me," you yank his hood forward then and step out off the security cameras' blind spots. You jump up to sit on the back of a bench and he sits between your legs, elbows resting on your thighs."You got over that quickly,""We're in public, Dabi, what else did you want from me?" you speak through a smile. Onlookers think you and him are friends or lovers, joking and smiling with each other. You laugh and trail your fingers down his shoulders to his chest, pressing your cheek to his."What's that, princess? Did I hear you get attitude with me?""Yeah, and I will fucking kill you, Dabi. I swear. Lay your hands on me again and we're done. The fighting and arguing is fine, I don't give a shit about that. I don't care if you cheat - hell we aren't even really dating. But, you do not touch me like that again," you smile sweetly and turn his chin to face you. His eyes are wide and you lean forward, pressing the sweetest kiss to his parted lips. With a chirpy tone, you ask, "Understood?"He exhales slow, eyes narrowing. And then he breathes out the most unexpected sentence."We... aren't dating?"You freeze in place. It was uncharacteristic of him to sound so insecure and hurt. He knows it, you know it, hell probably the lady at the supermarket would know it.He scoffs and moves to get up but you let out a quiet shout and hold him back down, arms and legs wrapping around him."I... told you I loved you," you whisper. "You didn't say it back, I just-""You what? Assumed that because I didn't say it means I don't feel it?""Well, yeah, Dabi. You aren't exactly the type to fall in love. And when someone says, 'I love you,' there's usually some sort of reply," you exhale against his cheek in a sigh, "You just... ignored me.""I don't- words aren't my fucking forte," he huffs."Well, look at us Dabi. We hate each other, how was I supposed to know we were dating? All we do is fight and argue and just absolutely despise each other,""We don't always fight,""What, you mean the angry sex we have in between our arguments?" you scoff, leaning your torso back away from his, but keeping your arms over his shoulders. "I may be a piece of shit, but I actually do like the stupid, cliche, romance things that come with the whole dating thing. I like our relationship, but I wouldn't wanna date you with how we are around each other.""So, what, you want me to fuckin' hold your hand and kiss your forehead?""Is that so hard to believe? That maybe I do wanna feel loved sometimes, outside of the bedroom? I don't want to just feel like your fuck toy," you turn his head, force him to look at you, "I'm not just some cum dumpster, Dabi. I don't know what you think dating is like, but this certainly isn't it."He searches your eyes with his own, and then looks over your face."I'm sorry,"
Oh.
You reel back like he's burned you, nearly falling in the process. Dabi doesn't apologize. Anyone who knows him, know that. He isn't sorry, that's why he's such a strong villain. He just doesn't care. Emotions make you weak, you both learned that the hard way.Strong hands steady you with a delicate touch. One you don't recognize is from him, not right away. His fingers seize your wrists, holding you to him again."I'm sorry," he says again. "I don't date. I fuck and forget. I do love you. I don't know what I'm doing here, but I'll try. For you."He pulls your head down, kissing you so soft and sweet it makes your head spin. Knocks the breath from your lungs, stalls your heart in your chest. It won't be a quick fix, you both know. It'll take work and effort, every relationship does. But, you two have had exceptionally difficult lives - lives that have led you each to being in the Top Ten Villains. You're not expecting an easy adventure, it won't all be sunshine and rainbows. But, he's giving effort and you appreciate that more than you can say.So you kiss harder, press into him more. You pour your feelings into the kiss, and you know it'll all be worth it when he does the same.
