This girl. This insignificant, irredeemable girl. How much trouble had she given him to deserve such a terrible fate, with no hope of salvation?
“Enough,” he exhaled, then breathed in the humid air of the rooftop machinery room. Its heat filled his lungs, its smoky, steely air hitting the back of his throat to mingle with the scent of her sweat and fear in a delicious miasma.
“I hope you enjoy your last moments, Do Bong-Soon,” Kim Jang-Hyun murmured as he snapped the clasp of the lock closed. The click was a quiet thing and it was no match the sudden, victorious thrumming of his heart.
Inspired, Jang-Hyun glanced at her face again. He reached out a hand and stroked the backs of his fingers along her cheek -
- her lashes fluttered, her anxiety unable to be erased even while unconscious -
- he caught his breath -
- her eyes opened -
- he smiled -
- she screamed.
“Do. Bong. Soon,” he said, articulating each syllable of her name precisely, his fingers still stroking her cheek. “Shall I repay you for stealing my brides?”
Do Bong-Soon shook her head, trying to get his hand away from her face. Instead, he snatched her chin between his fingers, gripping it tight...so tight. Tears began to roll down her cheeks and he leaned forward, fascinated.
Then, in what had to be one of the most horrific moments of her life, he licked a tear from her cheek. His breath was hot on her face and she screamed again, sobbing openly now.
“Shall I keep you?” he asked, smirking a little. “Shall I teach you what it means to be truly powerless?”
Bong-Soon shook her head again and Jang-Hyun thrust himself away from her, suddenly laughing.
“No. This is your reward in this life,” he said, gesturing lazily at her state. “But in the next one...I’ll make you my first."
Unable to speak for sobbing, Bong-Soon finally looked down at her hands, her torso - taped and chained, attached to a bomb counting down in violent red digits. She began to struggle in earnest, barely hearing Jang-Hyun as he left the room and chained the outer door. Barely caring about her impending death, but struggling because that was all she could do - until she heard Min-Hyuk’s voice on the other side of the door. Then she began screaming again.
Do Bong-Soon screamed for what felt like a long, long time.
