“Izuku! What are you doing? Stop playing with flowers. I wanna go check out the trees!”“Hang on, Kacchan! I’m almost done.” Izuku’s lip was pulled between his teeth as he concentrated. Finally, he jumped up.“Done!” he proclaimed, and placed his creation on Katsuki’s head.“What is it?” Katsuki asked, trying to look up through the spikes that fell over his forehead as he patted at it carefully with his hands.“It’s a crown! Now Kacchan is the king!”Katsuki grinned, pleased. He placed little fists on his hips in a hero pose. “King Katsuki!” he declared. He looked at Izuku, covered in white flower petals. “What about you?”Izuku shrugged, happy to make his friend happy. “I only made one.”“Teach me!” Katsuki demanded.Pleased to be able to show Kacchan how to do something, Izuku showed him how to gather the daisies and weave them together.Katsuki worked with his tongue peeking out of his mouth. He discarded three crowns before he was satisfied.“There!” he said, setting it on Izuku’s green curls. “Perfect!”“Thanks, Kacchan!”“I’m the King, and you’re the Queen,” Katsuki stated.“What? Why do I have to be the girl?” Izuku asked.“Cuz someday I’m gonna ask you to marry me, so that makes you the queen,” Katsuki said.“Two boys can’t get married, Kacchan,” Izuku pointed out.“I can do anything!” Katsuki said. “If I said I’m gonna marry you, you’d better believe it!”“Okay! Let’s go play now.”The two boys ran around the field of flowers and through the trees for the rest of the afternoon, pretending they were king and queen of the forest. When they went home for the evening, both of their mothers were hard-pressed to find all the flower petals in their hair.
Fifteen years later….
“Marry me, Deku.”“Kacchan, what—?” Izuku stared at his childhood friend. They were on better terms now, sure, working as sidekicks on their way to becoming heroes, but this seemed to be rather out of the blue.Katsuki rolled his eyes. “Okay, fine.” He dropped to a knee right in the foyer of their hero agency, pulling a small box from his pocket.“Midoriya Izuku,” he started, and Izuku thought he might actually faint. People were stopping to stare, but Katsuki ignored them and continued.“Deku. We’ve known each other for a long time. We’ve been through all kinds of shit together. Will you let me be at your side as you go through the rest of the shit life throws at us? I’d…” He looked away, face pink. “I’d like that a lot.”Wordlessly, Izuku took the proffered box and opened it. Immediately, his eyes teared up. On a golden band, a dozen daisies were worked in silver, forming a flower crown.“Ka-Kacchan!” he choked out.Katsuki stood up and took the ring out of the box. Taking Izuku’s hand, he slid it onto his finger. It fit perfectly. Izuku wasn’t even surprised.“Is that a yes?” he asked, running his thumb over the ring. He looked up, and red eyes met teary green.Izuku threw his arms around Katsuki’s neck. “Of course it’s a yes, you idiot! I love you!”Katsuki wrapped his arms around Izuku, heart swelling with happiness.“But… Kacchan?”“Hmm?”“Wouldn’t we normally go on dates first?”“Fuck that,” Katsuki said. “We don’t need to do this like some extras.”Izuku was laughing as Katsuki pulled him into a kiss. For a moment, lost in each other, they were carefree and happy, king and queen of the forest again.
