Work Text

Where did you go my darling?

America felt as empty as the day he lost his innocence in a carnival to a boy with lavender eyes and apricot lips, and yet it was the same boy who made him feel this way once again, as he held onto the stained white fabric, sobbing into it as if it was the first time they made love by a fruit tree, "Ivan- I-Ivan, oh god, please, don't leave don't leave- I called the ambulence, okay? Sweetheart, I adore you, I love you so much, I promise you I'll love you forever-" he said, his voice shaken with horror, but he was stopped with a pale hand brushing his cheek- an odd memory of the time they danced for the first time, Matthew chuckling softly as Francis held Arthur back from attacking the 'bastard who touched his baby boy'. Of course, Natalia had to be held back as well, but she had soon come to realize that her brother deserved romance as well, for it was blue lotus tea for the soul.
"Why are you talking as if I
won't
survive through this? I've been through more,
Подсолнечника." The Russian man said, his voice soft as he attempted to comfort the other- but Alfred couldn't allow it, what if Ivan didn't make it? What if he didn't, and Alfred didn't even have
time to say his last words?
Being the selfish man he was, America wanted to be the last one to tell him he adored him, to tell him how when they were young boys, and how when everyday Ivan would give him a bag of strawberries, that his heart used to flutter every singe time.
"Stupid, stupid,
stupid!
Why?" Alfred continued crying, his crystal tears hanging from forget-me-not eyes, and Ivan couldn't help but chuckle, despite the situation, he held the other's face, his slender thumb pressing lightly against his chin, as he leaned in for a kiss, coughing as he did so, the pain erupting until his fingers curled uncomfortably. But Alfred didn't care, when the Russian's pointer finger dug into his face, nor did he care when he tasted coffee and sweet honey, along with a tinge of blood.
"Stop laughing.
Stop laughing!"
He yelled, weakly punching the other's shoulder, "You're making this seem as if it's funny! It's not funny! What do you think I'll do without you?
What am I going
to do without my lover?
If you don't make it through this- I-I'll kill myself-!" Alfred said, his voice quick through the panic of his mind, but Ivan understood everything perfectly- he was used to it, for it was the same speed when Alfred would see something he liked.
"Дорогая, don't. Please. I'll stay alive. For you." He wasn't laughing anymore, instead, crying just like Alfred was. And so, Alfred wiped the tears away, because sad boys helped other sad boys, and sometimes sadness is just a little cruel and boys are just boys. In a moment where they force themselves to deny everything, to pretend the world was sugary sweet like mama's macarons, and not all hard and burnt like papa's biscuits. Pretend everything was as smooth as maple syrup.
Perhaps, this was the reason why people hated falling in love, saying only fools fell in love- and if that was true.Alfred was okay with being a fool.

Alfred was crying once again, this time with nobody to talk to- nobody alive, at least, as he fell onto his knees, the very same way Ivan proposed with a diamond ring in the middle of New York City, "You lied- you fucking... You lied to me..." His voice was weak now, having no strength anymore to say anything else, "You said- you said- you said you'd make it out alive!" He screamed, screaming to nobody yet everybody.Oh, Mama Earth, didn't you promise to be nicer this time? And- you, Aphrodite, didn't you promise to keep innocent lovers innocent?
And Death, who do you think you are to take my beloved?Perhaps, if you step through the forest where a human took Ivan's life, you could hear the despair-riddened wails of a empty-hearted lover's cry, or maybe, you could listen even harder, and hear the antique sound of a couple's laughter, like a little boy with lavenders for eyes and rose thorns for hands giving a bag of strawberries to another boy with the sun for a heart and storms for a mind.
