He shouldn’t be here. What he should be doing was preparing his gift for White Day. Instead, he felt like suffocating in his own three-piece blue suit.Yusaku could not believe that he was watching Ryoken dance either, and it was with this…this… He silently sighed to himself. Apparently, no epithet was strong enough to describe this brazen woman, in his opinion. Adding salt to injury was the fact she was a good-looking woman—a very good-looking woman. She wore her perfectly layered, salon-blonde hair like a sophisticated crown. She was dressed in a brilliant floor-length red evening gown that fitted her lush curves and cut low in the bosom. The gown also featured a dangerously-high slit showing off her leg. The red color made her complexion look milky white. The six-inch heels were killer, but she was still a fraction shorter than Ryoken. And Yusaku observed that she was a touchy-feely person since she liked touching Ryoken every chance she got. While at the charity auction, her hand kept brushing Ryoken’s arm. At dinner, as if it was the most natural thing, she’d touched his shoulder. The contact caused all kinds of unpleasant sensation to cascade through Yusaku and made him uncomfortable. That particular woman wasn’t the only problem. More than once he caught others, both young and old, eyeing Ryoken as well. Some inconspicuously and others openly. And then there was this heavy-breasted woman in a tight blue dress who asked Ryoken to dance with her too. Can’t really blame them now, can he? Not that he had not ever noticed how devastatingly attractive Ryoken was, it was just that he looked so impeccable, all strong and straight in his black silk evening suit. Ryoken had a quality of beauty; natural, without artificial embellishments; so distinguished that no matter other forms of beauty surrounded him, his beauty stood out by itself rare, unsurpassed that it even haunted Yusaku’s dreams.Yusaku, after making sure he grabbed the right drink from one of the roaming waiters, gulped down his sparkling juice in one go. This wasn’t really how he imagined his day would turn out. Didn’t he already establish that balls and fancy parties were bad for him? Why did he have to change his mind after he already turned down Ryoken’s invitation to be his plus one?Oh, yeah, Spectre happened that’s why…That tree bastard. Yusaku felt himself seething at himself for playing right into his hands. Spectre could have and should have gone with Ryoken to this charity ball that Leo Corporation was hosting. But Spectre loved being a troll.
“Of course, I’d love to accompany Ryoken-sama to the ball. Someone has to watch over him, especially being surrounded by adoring girls all unable to keep their hands off him.”
As if on cue—Ryoken’s dance partner tripped during her little twirl. Ryoken caught her close to keep her from falling, and the woman lay her head on his shoulder, giggling. The sight made him see red. Yusaku closed his eyes, hoping to block and erase that image from his head, and opened them again to find Ryoken standing directly in front of him.“Are you all right, Yusaku?” Ryoken asked with a concerned expression. There was an awkward pause. “Ah, yeah…” Yusaku said, even though he knew fully well that it was not going over Ryoken that easily.“You saw that, didn’t you?”“She tripped on purpose,” Yusaku reproved, trying not to sound angry.“Yes, I could tell,” Ryoken said, looking about the dance floor. His dance partner from a while ago was already dancing with another man. “I was tired of having her sticking to me like a leech, so I handed her over to Alito-san.”“Isn’t that guy an acquaintance of Kamishiro Rio?”“Yes. Quite the charmer really. Elite level at Dueling too.” Ryoken looked back at Yusaku. “I take it that you’re not enjoying yourself?”“Gee, what gave it away?” Yusaku replied sarcastically.“You didn’t have to come.”“I took my exams early for this. Besides, I wanted to see what Maiami City is like.” Apart from Spectre’s baiting, the prospect of spending White Day with Ryoken in another city was rather tempting for Yusaku. Going on dates while on a vacation far away from home should be in every couple’s bucket list. At least, that was what Ghost Girl told him.“Well, it’s White Day tomorrow and we have the whole day free.”Which reminded Yusaku about the little gift he has for Ryoken. It hadn’t been easy. Like, seriously, what do you give a man who has everything? Especially on White Day? He had pondered over this for days after Valentines, where Ryoken gave him some expensive-ass chocolates. But Miyu—bless her soul—gave him a very helpful hint.It was a gift Yusaku could give him, and that was important to him—even though it seemed too cheesy in his head. It was the thought that counts, right? Then again, a part of him wanted to burn it, and he hoped Ai will never ever find out about it.“I was thinking of visiting You Show Duel School in the afternoon,” Ryoken stated, snapping Yusaku out of his thoughts. “What do you think?”Something caught Yusaku’s eye for a moment. “I think you should get ready to dance again.”“And why should I—”But then he was cut off by a man in his late fifties and his lovely daughter, who obviously wanted to dance with Ryoken. 00000 The hotel suite was so big and unnecessary spacious for two people, and pricey as hell. Yusaku still couldn’t believe the price when he saw it, but since this executive-style, top-floor suite was offered for free by Leo Corporation, he really had no complaints. The floor-to-ceiling windows provided an abundance of natural light during the day, as well as breath-taking panoramic views of Maiami skyline. It was the ideal room for business trips and vacation getaways, with its king bedroom and plush bed, a separate living area complete with dining table, and an enormous bathroom and Jacuzzi tub.Out of all the amenities, the Jacuzzi tub was probably the best. The water was deliciously warm, and Yusaku leaned against the back of the tub and inhaled the relaxing scent of lavender-scented candles. He could feel all the dirt and stuffiness sliding away into the water, but it was unsurprisingly not enough to wash down the bitter pangs he felt.He knew he shouldn’t be like this, especially since he was aware of Ryoken’s feelings for him. But, dammit, he wished those women would not touch him so frequently. He pinched the bridge of his nose. Seriously, Ryoken was more trouble than he’s worth—a pleasing package of trouble but trouble just the same.He sighed aloud, shoulders sinking further into the water. He wondered if it was such a good idea to leave the party. He could always trust Ryoken. It was those women he couldn’t trust. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to drag Ryoken away from the party and kiss him senselessly. After the bath and when he realized he didn’t bring his pajamas with him, he wrapped a towel around his waist. The minute he got out of the bathroom, however…Yusaku felt like his brain almost shut down. He was self-aware enough to know that he was only in a towel. His hair was wet, his bare shoulders, chest and legs were still moist from the bath. And seeing the look in Ryoken’s eyes, he sensed something there. Something he had felt before. It made him feel so very, very exposed. At the same time, he felt like a deer caught in the headlights. What Yusaku didn’t realize that his current state of almost nakedness had caused Ryoken’s brain to short circuit, and it took a moment for his system to reboot. He found himself rather thirsty, and it was incredibly difficult not to ogle at such a treat in front of him. At least, he’d been decent enough not to let his jaw hang like an idiot, because that would appear rather awkward. Yusaku’s visual appeal was already tempting to begin with, but Yusaku in only a towel was borderline dangerous territory. His body was lean-lined all the way; small shoulders, thin waist, and those long, slender legs, which stoked Ryoken’s desires for him continually. And Yusaku was unconsciously testing Ryoken’s sanity or whatever was left of it right now.Forcing his feelings down, swallowing them back, was something Ryoken had done millions of times in his life. He had to be a picture of refinement and control. After all those years, he was a goddamn pro at swallowing back his emotions and desires. After what felt like an hour, when it had only been a few seconds, he put on a smile and finally spoke. “Enjoyed the bath?”Yusaku was jolted out of his stupor by his amused tone, and he almost jumped. He fumbled a bit to get an answer out. “I…I didn’t know you’d be back this early.”“I managed to escape.”“Bet you smooth-talked your way out of it.” In embarrassment, Yusaku wanted to look away so badly, to hide his face from him. It was difficult to meet Ryoken’s eyes like this. He tried not to blush, though he could feel the heat creeping into his cheeks.“You know me well. Now then…” Ryoken’s smile took a devilish twist. “Are you gonna dry yourself or do I have to do it for you?”A warning instinct like a bell ringing alerted him, making Yusaku’s heart jump. He tried to feign nonchalance, but he answered back with a bit of a defensive pout. “I was about to when you came in.”“And the timing couldn’t have been better,” Ryoken said, raking smoldering blue eyes over his body.“Whatever…” Yusaku turned, cheeks flaming and heart pounding, and headed toward the dresser to pull out his pajamas.“Yusaku.”“What?” Yusaku spun around, his towel loosening around his hips, teasing Ryoken with glimpses of more skin as he snatched it tight with one hand while he held onto his pajamas.Ryoken gulped back a wash of insane hunger. This was dangerous. “Make sure you dry yourself properly. I don’t want you catching a cold.”“Yeah, yeah, I hear you.”“Good. I’ll be taking a bath now.”As soon as Ryoken got inside the bathroom, Yusaku sunk down on the bed and let out a breath he didn’t even know he’d been holding. To be watched by Ryoken with those eyes—it almost felt like he was being watched by a hungry predator. Those blue eyes expressed Ryoken’s desire. Dark and heated. And Yusaku had found himself at loss at what to do.Ryoken, on the other hand, had pressed his back into the door and slid down to the floor. Breathing heavily, he ran his hand through his hair and tried to get himself under control. The teasing he did was simply a façade. Yusaku was wet and naked, and he almost lost himself back there. His pulse was racing. He wanted Yusaku so badly that it left him tasting fear.He needed a shower.A very icy-cold shower. And he needed it bad. 00000  With last night’s awkwardness pushed back into the back of their minds, the two started the next morning with breakfast at an outdoor café in the large terrace of the hotel. Then, after a day of visiting famous landmarks and wandering through a quiet park, window shopping at places and eating delicious food—Yusaku’s treat this time—and sitting through an Action Duel Exhibition at You Show Duel School—where they got to meet and talk with the famous Yuya Sakaki—they were ready to retire back to their hotel. All in all, it had been a wonderful vacation and a perfect White Day.“Maybe we should go on vacations more often,” Ryoken said when Yusaku emerged from the bathroom. They have both changed into their pajamas. “Yeah… But, right now? I need three things: rest, bed, and probably a massage,” Yusaku stated, dropping down onto the bed like a sack of potatoes. They had done a lot of walking and his feet were killing him. He buried his face into the pillow and sighed pleasantly. He was definitely going to miss this king-sized bed.“This hotel has a massage parlor. If you’d like—”“I don’t want any random person touching me,” Yusaku said against the pillow, making his words a little muffled.“I thought you might say that.” Ryoken chuckled and walked towards the bed. “Let’s try this then…” He sat down at the edge of the bed and reached out for Yusaku’s shoulders.Yusaku gasped and tensed at the contact, and immediately peered over his shoulder to look at Ryoken. “What do you think you’re doing?” And he found himself tensing even more as Ryoken leaned his face closer.Close to his ear, Ryoken said in a husky voice, “All you have to do is ask me, Yusaku. I’d be glad to accommodate you.”Ryoken’s drawl heightened Yusaku’s awareness of him—his hands massaging his shoulders, his breath tickling his neck, his scent, with a hint of lavender, wafting toward him. For a few moments Yusaku surrendered himself to the pure, pleasurable sensations—as knot after knot unraveled. His eyelids started to close until he felt the kiss on the back of his neck. It jerked him straight up and made his heart pump crazily.Ryoken let out a soft chuckle, earning him Yusaku’s instant glare. “Sorry, I couldn’t resist.”Yusaku tried not to pout.“Sad that we’re going home tomorrow,” Ryoken murmured. “I like having you to myself.”Yusaku’s heart warmed at his words, so did his cheeks. Lowering his eyes, he clasped Ryoken’s hand. “Me too.”Ryoken squeezed his hand and, lifting it to his lips, grazed his knuckles with a sweet kiss. “I’m glad you came with me. I really enjoyed our day.”“Yeah…” Yusaku made a low affirmative sound in reply. He knew better than to ask while they were in a moment like this, but last night got him thinking again. So, he raised his gaze and asked, “What were you thinking when you saw me in a towel?”Ryoken’s expression changed instantly to one of mild surprise, the apprehensive feeling inside curbing silently. He paused a moment, his cheeks flushed slightly. He looked a little hesitant, but he held Yusaku’s gaze. “I was thinking I wanted to kiss you.”Half of him expected a teasing remark, and Yusaku almost thought Ryoken would go for it. But Yusaku could tell that he was serious about it. “Then…Why didn’t you?”If only Yusaku knew how much he affected Ryoken, how deliciously attractive his body was, the way his fresh, clean scent intoxicated him. In the state he was in last night, he feared at any moment he would give in. “You weren’t properly dressed.”“Your point?” Yusaku exhaled the words. The way Ryoken was devouring him with his eyes, as if he’d never wanted anything more than he craved him, the same eyes last night.“Did you want me to?”“Don’t twist my words.” Yusaku leaned forward and kissed him softly. A chaste kiss on the lips, but he felt Ryoken’s body shudder.Ryoken couldn’t stop himself then, not with the warmth of his lips against his own. He kissed back, coaxing Yusaku’s lips apart with the tip of his tongue. The taste of mint lingered in his mouth, wonderfully fresh. He sucked on the tip of his tongue, and Yusaku did the same to his. The show of desire loosened something inside Ryoken. Gently, he pushed Yusaku down onto the bed, onto his back, pinning him beneath him, reveling in the feel of him. Every part of his body touched some part of his, from toes to knees to chest. He nibbled a tender earlobe, sending shivers racing through Yusaku.“Yusaku…” Ryoken whispered, tracing a path of fiery kisses along his throat. He then dipped his head further down and nibbled his neck.  Yusaku gasped and moaned with pleasure, his body twitching in response.Breathing him in, Ryoken pulled back a bit and gazed down at him, his eyes drinking in the sight. His body throbbed under the impact of such a beauty. Yusaku’s face was deeply flushed, his lips moist and parted. He was going crazy.“Ryoken…”Hearing Yusaku say his name made something savage inside of Ryoken snap. He pushed one of his knees between Yusaku’s thighs, making him shudder and moan, as he ravaged his mouth again. His kiss went deep, his tongue aggressive and probing. He murmured Yusaku’s name before kissing him again, the soft flesh of his palm applying pressure underneath Yusaku’s top.Whatever concerns Yusaku had paled in comparison to the raw emotion coursing through his veins. It was like an inferno inside him. An inferno only Ryoken could extinguish. He writhed beneath him with an urgent persuasion. He was powerless, as if he was under a spell. Ryoken made him feel uninhibited, unashamed. He felt his breath against his skin, sensed his warmth and strength, and his body quivered at the soft touch of his tongue against his neck.He felt immense desire...followed by a rush of fear. What was going on?He could feel adrenaline messing with him, making him tingle all over, causing the little hairs on his arms to stand at attention. His heart pounded in his chest and thundered in his ears that he wondered if Ryoken could hear it.Then slowly, Ryoken touched his chest, first just one finger, gently brushing over his nipple. Yusaku cried out at the unfamiliar sensation. His head was spinning and his body ached and throbbed. He arched into Ryoken, curling his hands into the back of his shirt. He heard Ryoken’s ragged breathing, felt his hand tremble. Then slowly unbuttoned his top, and he felt the cool air on his overheated skin. His first reaction was to lift his arm to cover a part of his face and close his eyes, but Ryoken took his hand gently and pressed a kiss into his palm.“Do you want me to stop?”“I...I…This feels...weird...” Yusaku muttered, almost breathless. He wasn’t sure if he wanted Ryoken to stop. Even though it felt good, his heart was beating like a double bass drum beat in his chest, and it felt like he was going to go into cardiac arrest. On one hand, he wanted Ryoken to kiss him more, to touch him and caress him. But something unspoken gripped him in its vice. Then Yusaku realized he was on the verge of tears. What the hell? He was not the crying kind. He’d been through too much, seen too much to let his emotions get the best of him like that and yet... they were. He could feel it—a dam inside ready to burst, and then one tear dropped.“Yusaku, what’s wrong?”“I...I don’t know...” The words came out—forced—and he could barely hear them. “I don’t know...” He clenched his teeth hard, covering his face with one hand, as he looked away. He felt so unsure, so vulnerable, so confused—and he hated it. “Shit... I’m sorry, Ryoken...”Ryoken felt himself getting swamped by guilt. He should not have given in to his desire, to the extreme emotion that shed him raw. He moved away to the edge of the bed, shoulders sagging as he sat in contemplation.  He reminded himself that, in spite of all the hardship he’s been through, Yusaku was still young. “You don’t have to apologize. You did nothing wrong. I was the one being inconsiderate.” Leaning forward, he rested his elbows on his knees, cupping his head in his hands. “I’m sorry, Yusaku. I’m sorry...”Hearing the hurt in Ryoken’s tone, Yusaku sat up on bed and settled his eyes on his back. It wasn’t the first time Ryoken had shown his guilt complex, but it had always pained Yusaku to see him like that. Breathing in deeply, he came closer, wrapping his arms around him. He felt Ryoken stiffen as he nestled his face into his shoulder and inhaled his scent. “I don’t really get it myself... It was weird and confusing, and maybe I did get a little afraid, but I don’t hate it...”Hell, he wasn’t even sure if he was making any sense with his words right now.“But it was still wrong. I overdid it. Any selfishness beyond that is unacceptable,” Ryoken muttered. “I might have ended up making you hate me.”“Nothing you have ever done, or will ever do, could make me hate you, Ryoken.” Ryoken grunted with slight amusement. “Because you’re the most stubborn guy I’ve ever met.”“Pot, have you met kettle yet?” Yusaku quipped, and Ryoken lightly laughed, easing their tensions. “Let’s call it a night?”“Sounds good.”“I have three requests though...”Once released from Yusaku’s hold, Ryoken turned around to look at him, his eyes showing his puzzlement.Yusaku held up a finger. “One, don’t ever be afraid to touch me.” Another finger came up. “Two, don’t worry about what happened. If I hated it, I should have pushed you away, but I didn’t... And three...” He reached for something underneath the pillow and pulled out a white envelope “I want you to read this tonight before you sleep.”Ryoken stared at the letter for a few seconds and took it from Yusaku’s hand. “Is this...?”“My White Day present...” Yusaku said, blushing a bit. “It’s not much.” But he hoped Ryoken would like it.Ryoken’s face lighted up with that soft radiance which was its best quality, and his smile was just as gentle that never failed to set Yusaku’s heart in motion. “Thank you. Should I open it now?”“N-Not here.” With the speed of a cat, Yusaku pulled the sheets, laid down facing away, and buried himself under it. “Do you want me to die of embarrassment? Go open it in the living room.”“Um...Okay?” Ryoken was certainly amused by Yusaku’s reaction, but he didn’t question him further. As requested, Ryoken left the younger boy in bed and retreated to the living area of their hotel room, where he settled on a lavish couch facing Maiami City’s skyline. The envelope was white and made from cardstock, sealed with a circular sticker of Wisteria. He carefully took out the neatly folded content and began to read the letter handwritten to him on a Wisteria-themed stationery.
Ryoken,

I’ve written a lot of emails and text messages, but this is my first time writing a letter to you. You once told me that writing letters is something rare and meaningful especially at this time and age. Perhaps I’ll be able to write down the things better this way.

The purpose of this letter is to tell you of my feelings for you.

I remember when we first met. I imagine you just wanted a friend to play with. But then the incident happened. Never thought you were Dr. Kogami’s son though. Looking back on it, fate was really playing with us.

The incident was hard on all of us. In a place where we could do nothing but sleep, eat and duel was hell on Earth. You couldn’t stand your father’s wrongdoings though, so you reached out to me and became my voice of hope. It was your words that sustained me in that darkness.

Even after the incident, I kept wanting to see you, wanting to save you. Those thoughts clung to my soul as I struggled to continue with my life. The nightmares wouldn’t end, and I felt like I was still trapped in that white room. So, when revenge came knocking, I welcomed it. Eventually my hatred and desire for revenge got me onto the battlefield, leading me to you again.

You’re an amazing duelist. But, more than all that, it was your sense of responsibility and dedication that made you formidable as an enemy. Unfortunately, our rivalry has put us through our fair share of hardships. Even so, we fought for what we believed in.

It wasn’t long before I came to know the man behind the cyber-terrorist Revolver. To be honest, it didn’t change my feelings for you. I still wanted to save you. It’s probably why I was so desperate in our duel at the tower. But after you left, no matter what I did all I could think about was you.

A lot of things happened after that. Kusanagi-san's little brother got kidnapped, the war with the Ignis... So, when you saved me and Ai from Windy, for a moment I thought it was only a dream.

Eventually we found ourselves fighting on the same side. We came to trust on each other’s strength. Whenever things got bad for me, it was your words and your conviction that brought me up out of despair. The only reason I’m still here today was that you were there to catch me.

When the war was over and there was peace, you went away again and I wasn’t sure what to do with myself. It felt as if there was a big hole in my chest. Then you came back, and everything started falling into place again. And before long, I found I had fallen for you.

We may have believed in different futures, but by working together, we’ve found a new future for us. When you’re by my side, I feel at peace.

No matter what happens, you are irreplaceable to me, Ryoken. I’ll never let you go again.

This is going to sound cheesy coming from me but here it is:

I love you, Ryoken.

Sincerely,
Yusaku  “Not much, huh?”Reading Yusaku’s letter had been an emotional moment for him. There was such tenderness in every word, in every sentence, as Ryoken’s heart had fluttered with the stirrings of love. Ryoken knew that Yusaku wasn’t the sentimental type. He knew how difficult it must have been for Yusaku to write this letter. Yusaku had to go through such trouble just to give him this. Ryoken’s chest warmed at the thought of it. He couldn’t stop smiling.Yusaku was always full of surprises, even after they’ve been together for so long.  Ryoken was more than surprised though, he was also impressed that Yusaku had such courage to bear all his emotions on paper.

P.S.

As soon as you’re done reading this letter, burn it. I don’t want Ai stumbling upon it as it contains classified information. Thank you.

He couldn’t help but chuckle at the last part. Typical Yusaku...“Yusaku...you became my voice of hope as well,” Ryoken muttered, looking down at the letter again. The more he thought back, the more he realized just how much Yusaku has been there to lift him up when he fell. But what happened tonight... What he did...While Ryoken wanted to take things slow and not rush into the next step with Yusaku because he didn’t want to hurt him, it was getting more and more difficult each time.Ryoken shook his head, remembering what Yusaku told him, and sighed. They’ll get there eventually. Right now, he should probably try to get some sleep. All of a sudden, his phone chimed, alerting him of an email. Pulling out his phone from his pocket, he saw that it was from none other than Ai. From: IGN-006 | Ai
Subject: Happy White Day!
To: Kogami, Ryoken

Revolver-chan!
Yusaku would kill me, so I’m gonna ask you instead. Have you read the letter yet? Is it really a love letter to you? DETAILS! I need DETAILS!

From everyone’s favorite Ai-sama ╰ (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) つ──☆*:・゚

Ryoken stared at Ai’s email for a full minute, trying to think how Ai found out about the letter in the first place. "Yusaku’s going to be so pissed.”And since he had no plans of ever burning the letter, might as well find a safe place for it to hide from Ai.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

If there was one thing he despised about early mornings at the seaside mansion, it was seeing Spectre so cheerful. Really, the man could have been recovering from a hangover and he would’ve still managed to look positively charming. Yusaku was used to waking early in the morning, but it doesn’t mean he was happy about it. And there was something annoyingly and irritatingly merry about Spectre today, as if he’d won the lottery or something.“A pleasant morning to you, Playmaker,” greeted Spectre, serving up a plate of fluffy pancakes with a generous dose of honey and berries.Okay, if there was one thing Yusaku appreciated about Spectre, it was his knack for cooking, and god forbid him to ever admit that aloud to Spectre. And because of last night’s King’s Game in Cyberse, all he could give Spectre was a particularly deep scowl. “You should be banned from all King’s Game.”“Says the ‘king’ who made my girlfriend kiss Soulburner.” Spectre had a nice smile on his face, but he radiated a definitely menacing aura.Yusaku felt his brow twitch in annoyance. “It was Ai’s idea.”“And you naturally went with that?”Yusaku deliberately stabbed his pancake with a fork. “I didn’t even know their numbers. Besides, it was only on the cheek. What you made me do is actually worse.”“Making you sit down on Revolver-sama’s lap while having your arms wrapped around him hardly classifies as ‘worse’.”Yusaku had to refrain from rolling his eyes at the easy confidence Spectre exuded. He didn’t exactly hate the dare that Spectre dropped on him last night—well, maybe he actually appreciated it a little—but it wasn’t the most comfortable position considering the Ignis, the Origins, along with Kusanagi, Ghost Girl, Kiku and Blue Maiden, were all there to witness that. He was absolutely certain that some of them even took snapshots, and he had to threaten Ai not to post it online or there will be murder.Taking a good sip of his coffee, Yusaku returned his focus on his breakfast. He sliced through the fluffy goodness and ate a piece.“Ryoken-sama didn’t seem to mind it though…”Yusaku began to choke on his food as he coughed and sputtered.“My, my, Playmaker. I didn’t know you were that hungry,” Spectre said, handing him a glass of water, as he rubbed his back.Yusaku took a sip of water and blinked his watering eyes a few times, and when he finally calmed down, he tossed a glare at Spectre, who was watching him in amusement. “Not another word.”“No promises there,” Spectre replied, taking a seat across him.Yusaku just sighed and shrugged. “You’re lucky you’re the one feeding me today, otherwise I would have kicked your ass by now.”“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Spectre picked up his own mug of coffee and took a nice sip. “By the way, White Day is coming up.”Yusaku stiffened, but he tried to hide the sudden apprehension.“Have you decided on a present yet?”“Not yet.” Feigning nonchalance, Yusaku took a proper bite of his pancake this time, chewed and swallowed.“Hmm… I was thinking of arranging a bouquet for Aoi,” Spectre mused, setting down the mug. “And perhaps a white teddy bear. What do you think?”“Sounds cliché as hell,” Yusaku said as he continued with breakfast.“It’s called being romantic, just like what Ryoken-sama did for you on Valentines.”Yusaku’s heart skipped a beat as he remembered the Valentines dinner date. He felt a butterfly twinge in his stomach when recalling the chocolate kiss in particular. It was still fresh in his mind and heart, and to be honest, he’d been pondering about White Day ever since Valentines Day ended. Though Ryoken assured him that he didn’t need anything in return, Yusaku wanted to give something special for him and yet nothing came into mind.He gave a pendant last time, which was like a marriage proposal quite frankly. For White Day there was a recited rule that the return gift should be two to three times the worth of the Valentines Gift. The chocolates he had received were in no way cheap. But money wasn’t a current issue for him, since he still had some from his last programming side-job. “I know! Why don’t you give him marshmallows?” Spectre suggested. “White Day is technically Marshmallow Day.”Yusaku’s head snapped up and he looked at Spectre as if he had just grown a branch. “I’d rather choke than ask you for any advice.”Spectre only laughed in return.“You’re looking so lively in the morning, Spectre. Did something happen?” Ryoken, who just arrived at the scene, said.“Good morning, Ryoken-sama. Playmaker and I were just discussing about something.”Yusaku stiffened, halting his hand mid-air which was in the process of putting a piece of pancake into his mouth. Spectre wouldn’t, would he? And he became more unsettled when he saw a teasing glint in Spectre’s turquoise eyes as glanced at him.“Discussing about what?” Ryoken questioned, sitting down on the chair next to Yusaku.“About last night,” Spectre answered.Yusaku was almost tempted to throw a fork at Spectre. Not bringing up their White Day convo was good, but bringing up the King’s Game again? Spectre just loved messing with him in the most inconspicuous way.“Last night? You mean the King’s Game?” A light-hearted smile graced Ryoken’s lips. “It was my first time playing such a game. It was…interesting.” Then he shot Yusaku a mischievous glance.Yusaku felt like choking again. Better yet, he felt like fleeing away now. No, scratch that, he felt like downright murdering Spectre. He saw the teasing glint in Ryoken’s eyes and knew what it meant. “Can’t I just have my breakfast in peace?”Spectre chuckled. “I had my fill, so I’ll stop now. Oh, before I forget… Ryoken-sama, will you be needing a new suit for the charity ball on the 13th?”“No, the present one is just fine,” Ryoken said.“How about you, Playmaker?”“No thanks… I’m not going,” Yusaku promptly answered. After getting drunk at the last one he attended, balls were practically a taboo for him now. He was tempted a bit though, since it was going to be held in Maiami City—a place he’d like to visit. But a ball was still a ball. “Why don’t you be his plus one instead, Spectre?”“Of course, I’d love to accompany Ryoken-sama to the ball.” A teasing grin twisted Spectre’s lips. “Someone has to watch over him, especially being surrounded by adoring girls all unable to keep their hands off him.”Suddenly, Yusaku felt something snap inside him, yet he kept it from flooding out.Ryoken laughed. “That’s a bit of an exaggeration, don’t you think?”No, really, it wasn’t, Yusaku grumbled inwardly. Ryoken has this effect on people, mostly girls, but a couple of guys too once in a while. Who wouldn’t look at a guy who was the embodiment of beauty with that perfect snow-white hair, broad shoulders, and piercing blue gaze? And him being in formal attire would definitely enhance Ryoken’s already impressive image. It wasn’t that hard to imagine Ryoken being surrounded by women who smelled like perfume—a scent Yusaku wasn’t fond of—and dancing with one girl after another. So, in the end, he changed his mind and decided to go, much to Spectre’s amusement.  00000 “You’re going to Maiami City?! That’s so cool!” Takeru both sounded and looked excited on the other side of the screen. Yusaku was at Café Nagi, currently on his break and video-chatting with Takeru over his tablet at one of the tables. “Drop by at You Show Duel School if you have time, okay? Maybe you’ll get to see Sakaki-san!” “I’ll consider it,” Yusaku replied, almost absentmindedly. He thought he could keep his mind occupied with work instead of thinking about White Day. On that note, he wondered if Takeru had something planned for Kiku as well, but didn’t know how to exactly ask him.“It’s only you and Ryoken-san who’s going, right?” Just right next to Takeru’s window was none other than Miyu Sugisaki, Aoi’s childhood friend and Aqua’s partner. Apparently, she and Takeru have been chatting one-on-one until they decided to call Yusaku.“Yeah. What about it?”Miyu made an amused sound deep in her throat. “A trip out of town, just the two of you in a fancy hotel… If that doesn’t sound like a honeymoon, I don’t know what does.” She let out a giggle.Yusaku remained deadpan on the outside. Inside, his stomach and heart just did a somersault somehow. “It’s not really a vacation. We’re just there for the charity ball.”
“But you guys have one free day after the ball, right? And on White Day too! Don’t tell me you’re gonna waste a perfect opportunity like that?!”
Takeru chuckled. “She’s got a point there, Yusaku.”“Do you even have a gift for Ryoken-san?” Miyu asked what Yusaku dreaded to hear.Yusaku’s expression nearly dented. “Not yet.”
“Do you have anything in mind?”
“Honestly, I don’t.”
“WHAT?! You’re kidding, right?”
Yusaku wished he were.“I’m sure Yusaku will be able to think of something,” Takeru reasoned.“So, you mean to tell me you already have something for your girlfriend?” Yusaku asked.Takeru blushed instantly and almost fumbled at his words. “I-It’s not much. I got her this neat phone strap.” “You also said you’re planning to buy her flowers,” Miyu added teasingly.
“Y-You better not spill anything to Kiku.”
“Relax. Your secret’s safe,” Miyu assured, waving a hand dismissively. “And don’t think we’re through, Playmaker.” Yusaku sighed and let out a shrug. He would very much like to sign off now. “Okay, fine. What do I give to a guy who has everything? I’m open to suggestions.”“Get him something he wouldn’t think of to get himself,” Miyu was quick to say, raising a finger and shaking it to emphasize her point.Yusaku raised a brow. “Like what?”
“Book, pen, a card… There are a lot to choose from. You can even sing him a song or write a message. Oh, and since you’re going to Maiami, treat him to lunch or dinner there while you’re at it. Make it a really good date.”
“Singing’s out of the question, but duly noted on the other suggestions.”“And it’s not a honeymoon without a hot, steamy make-out at the end of the day.” Yusaku froze in place as Takeru turned red like an overripe tomato.“Wha-What are you even suggesting?!” Takeru uttered.Miyu sighed. “They’re going to be alone in a hotel. What do you expect them to be doing?”
“Sleeping! Just sleeping!”
Miyu made a face. “That’s boring. I’m sure Ryoken-san would love to take advantage of the situation.” Yusaku blinked in confusion. “Take advantage?”“Ryoken-san would never do that!” Takeru looked like he was going to convulsed or something. His cheeks were so red, as if he was terribly embarrassed and uncomfortable. “He’s not that kind of guy.”
“Oh, come on… I’m sure they’ve done it a bunch of times already. I mean, they live under the same roof.”

“Can we not?!”
“You’ve already done it, right, Playmaker?” Miyu’s grin was mischievous.“We did share a room once for Dr. Asou and Dr. Taki’s wedding,” Yusaku said. “So, it’s not the first time we’ll be sleeping together.”
“Wait, you just slept together?”
“Yeah, since there was only one bed.”Miyu appeared like she just malfunctioned for a moment. “So, in other words…” She let out an awkward laugh. “Oh wow… Ryoken-san, your self-control is amazing,” she muttered almost inaudibly.Yusaku raised a brow. This conversation was heading towards unknown territory for him, and Yusaku had to go back to work now so Jin could take his break. “I have to go. Later…” And without giving the two the chance to reply, he signed off.“Your turn, Yusaku,” Jin said, approaching the table, as Yusaku stood up.“On it.”“So, have you figured out what to give Ryoken-san?”Yusaku thought for a moment. “I’m still not sure.”“For someone special, you might be looking for a lavish gift. But it’s the thought that counts. I’m sure Ryoken-san would appreciate anything you’ll give him.”“The thought, huh?” Yusaku was then struck with an idea as he recalled Miyu’s suggestion earlier. “Jin, do you know where I can buy stationeries?” 00000 When someone knocked on the bedroom door, Yusaku nearly leaped right off the chair. He had been sitting in front of his desk, and his pen skidded over the paper and left a messy blotch of ink on the letter for Ryoken.“Yusaku, are you there?” Ryoken asked from the other side of the door. “Uh, yeah,” Yusaku said, scrambling to hide the stationeries and crumpled pieces of thrash. It was almost comical, and he felt like his heart leaped into his throat when Ryoken asked if he could come in. “Wait, what? No, I mean, yes!”Ryoken peeped around the doorframe. He smiled at Yusaku, who was already leaning against the desk, hiding the clutter of mess behind him. “Were you busy?”“Just some school stuff.”“Do you need any help?”Absolutely not, Yusaku yelled in his head, but when he spoke his tone was the usual. “Nothing I can’t handle.” Though, if he was being perfectly honest, writing a letter was goddamn hard. He can’t even count the number of trial and error he did. His trash can was already full to capacity, and he feared he might need to buy more stationeries. Maybe writing a letter wasn’t such a good idea. “So, what’s for dinner?”“Curry rice. You’re up for it?”“I’m not about to say no to that,” Yusaku replied, thinking that he had to get Ryoken out of his room and as far away from his desk. Hopefully, his mind would clear up after filling up his belly.Unfortunately, it didn’t.And his slump went on for days. One minute he thought he was doing good, the next he’d crumple the paper and start another one. Why were complexed Duel Puzzles a lot easier than writing letters? This was madness, and he might go crazy. Not to mention, he felt more ridiculous as another day passed by.He considered giving Ryoken some white chocolates instead, but they felt lackluster compared to what Ryoken offered for him on V-Day. He couldn’t risk shopping clothes for Ryoken either, because his fashion taste was mostly limited to shirts and hoodies. At the very least, treating Ryoken to lunch was viable, but Yusaku would never be satisfied with just that.As the night before their flight arrived, he found himself lazing in the lounge of their seaside mansion, watching the ocean view listlessly as the stars twinkled in the pitch black sky. In the end, he still couldn’t write it.“Maybe I should just buy him flowers and get on with it…” he murmured under his breath. Before long, his eyes closed and he drifted off into sleep.Sometime later the increasing warmth stirred Yusaku from his slumber. “Hmm…” he mumbled, barely opening his eyes, and realized he was moving. More like floating actually. “Huh?”“We’re almost to your room,” Yusaku heard Ryoken say, alerting him instantly. His head snapped up to see Ryoken gazing down at him with a gentle smile on his face. “I didn’t want to wake you up, so I opted to carry you instead.”At such closeness, Yusaku knew it was futile to hide his blush or his face. “You can put me down now. I can walk.”“It’s not a problem,” Ryoken replied, giving him a challenging smile. “And I am pleased to announce that you’ve put on some weight.”Yusaku almost growled as he glared at Ryoken. “Are you telling me I’m fat?”Ryoken’s grin broadened, and he clasped him closer to his chest as he reached the hallway. “You look fine. Better than ever actually,” he assured, stopping right outside of Yusaku’s bedroom. “You could be any size and I’d still want you.”The words tugged at Yusaku’s heart. Putting his arms around Ryoken’s neck, he curled his fingers into his hair and pulled him closer. “Do you have any idea how cheesy that sounds?”Ryoken gave him a shy smile, one of Yusaku’s favorite smiles. “I know…” He leaned down and kissed him on the lips tenderly. “It's just that you make me so happy, Yusaku.”“Good. Now can you let go?” Yusaku said, looking awfully shy himself.  Ryoken laughed, the sound almost like wind chimes—pleasant and soothing to the ears. “I like having you like this. I look at you and think how lucky I am to have you in my life. I’m here now because you didn’t give up on me. And I don’t think there are enough words to convey the way I feel about you.”Yusaku’s heart melted. Ryoken’s words echoed through him, and he was looking at him with such softness and such love. He felt a rush like the wind moving over him, enveloping him, as Ryoken kissed him again, more passionately this time, their tongues dancing slowly and sensual with each other. This was a kiss that bared souls and intentions, leaving nothing but pure emotions. After what felt like a long time, they broke the kiss and they were breathless.“Off to bed now,” Ryoken said as he carefully put Yusaku down. “I know you’re tired. We still have a flight tomorrow.”Yusaku’s heart was still racing, and he was conscious it might show. “Yeah… See you in the morning then.”“Good night, Yusaku,” Ryoken said, turning to head towards his own room when—“Ryoken!”Ryoken peered over his shoulder to look back. “Hm? What is it?”“I also...” It was then he realized what he had to do, so Yusaku shook his head at Ryoken and said, “It’s nothing. Just wanted to say good night.”“Sleep well.”And with that, Yusaku retreated into his room. His feelings received a new impulse, and, before going to sleep that night, he poured out all his heart in the letter. 00000 The charity ball was done and over it. Nothing eventful happened, except for his occasional urge to bare his teeth at the people eyeing Ryoken as if he was a prize to be won. Amazingly enough, he had managed to avoid all forms of alcoholic drinks during the whole ordeal and presented his best behavior by avoiding attention as much as he could. It was not easy being polite and refusing girls who wanted to dance with him, but he had to keep appearances for Ryoken’s sake, who was a major benefactor for the charity. After what resulted into a very awkward encounter with Ryoken following his bath, it was amazing they managed to spend the next day so easily. One highlight of their day trip was the glorious Duel Monster Museum, which was a haven for any duelist. Yusaku thought Ryoken was going to swoon when he laid eyes on a statue of the majestic Stardust Dragon. The other sites they’ve visited were places with comfortable daily lives and were enjoyable. There were many good cafés and restaurant in Maiami City, but Yusaku, prior to their trip, had already booked a restaurant owned and managed by Michio Mokoto, a graduate from the famous Cuisine Duel School, who also worked as the head chef there. Royal Cookmates was a fun and interesting theme for the restaurant, and they had a lovely meal with Yusaku gladly paying for everything. But the biggest highlight of the day had to be the visit to You Show Duel School, famous for its Entertainment Dueling. They got to sit through an amazing Action Duel where Yuya Sakaki showcased his incredible skill and finesse with his Performapals. They even got to meet him backstage. The day trip was all within Yusaku’s expectations, which made it memorable for a White Day. All that was left was the letter. Back at the hotel, however, one thing led to another as they kissed...Before Yusaku knew it, a tear cascaded down from his eye and Ryoken was apologizing to him.The guilt in his tone, the anguish Ryoken felt—Yusaku couldn’t bear to see him like that, so he wrapped his arms from behind him, embracing his body and all of his pain. He nestled his face into his shoulder and assured him with words Ryoken needed to hear.It wasn’t long till the tension dissipated, and finally Yusaku gave him the letter.Ryoken stared at the envelope for a few seconds and took it from his hand. “Is this...?”“My White Day present...” Yusaku said, blushing a bit. “It’s not much.”Ryoken’s face lighted up with a smile. “Thank you. Should I open it now?”Yusaku’s heart felt like it was going to jump out of his chest. “N-Not here!” And with record-breaking speed, he pulled the sheets, laid down facing away, and buried himself under it. “Do you want me to die of embarrassment? Go open it in the living room.”“Um...Okay?”Yusaku could definitely sense the delight there, and he could hear his heart beat increase even when he heard Ryoken padding out of the room. He laid there for a time to try to settle his nerves, then peeked out of the covers. Ryoken was nowhere in sight, but knowing that he was probably reading his letter set him on edge. With a grunt, he lay on his stomach, hugging his pillow tightly underneath his chin and hoped for the best. What if Ryoken thinks it’s too cheesy? What if Ryoken finds it weird? What if the words weren’t enough? What if...?These thoughts went on for several minutes. He felt nervous, too restless to even sleep. He felt cold in the limbs, despite the warmth of the bed, and was weak all over. The anticipation was killing him.Just then, he felt the bed dip under unexpected weight. He stiffened in place until he felt the familiar warmth of a chest against his back.“Thank you for the letter.” Ryoken’s deep voice, so close to his ear, was warm and sensual, and aroused a flurry of emotions inside. With a bit of reluctance, Yusaku turned his head, intending to meet his eyes, but met his lips instead. Only a brush yet his breath hitched. Soft. So utterly soft. The contact made his lungs contract.“I love it.” Ryoken pulled back just enough that their lips still touched when they breathed. “I love you,” he whispered against his mouth, “so much.”Yusaku sighed into the kiss, his eyes fluttering close, as the need to taste him turned into a desperate thing. He turned fully, wrapping his arms around Ryoken’s neck and deepening his kiss. He could feel Ryoken’s fingers tremble on his cheek, as if he were touching something so fragile it would crumble at the slightest touch.Ryoken always had a careful and sincere approach, always mindful of Yusaku’s feelings, placing Yusaku above himself no matter what. Due to what happened moments ago, it was clear that Ryoken still lamented over the display of raw desire, the lack of self-control on his part. Now, as they basked in this intimate moment, Ryoken was treating him so dearly.Their lips shook slightly, nestled in their passionate kiss. Just thinking about how complete Ryoken made him feel, it convinced him more than ever how much their relationship has transcended beyond time. And he was glad that he was able to convey his feelings in that letter properly. As these thoughts burned so fiercely inside of him, so, too, did their kiss, and each breath between their zealous contact grew more sensuous. As their kiss came to its end, Ryoken hesitantly pulled back and gazed into his eyes. “As much as I want to savor this moment, it’s really late. We should probably get some sleep, but... I don’t think I could shut my eyes if I tried.”“Yeah...” Yusaku breathed out. As Ryoken laid down beside him and took him into his arms, Yusaku’s chest grew warmer. They fell silent, relaxing in the comfort of each other’s company. Yusaku found himself listening to the steady rhythm of their breaths, and enjoying the warmth that was Ryoken. This was heaven.
