Cas and Dean never meant for it to go further than a one night stand. Cas vaguely knew who Dean was, being an internationally famous rockstar. They just clicked. They had met at a bar when Dean was touring through Boston, and Cas had been dragged out with his friends Balthazar, Hannah, and his brother Gabriel. Dean was at the club with his band, which was Charlie, Jo, Benny and Garth. Cas ended up being pushed into Dean by Gabriel, and one thing led to another, and over the last months they had texted nearly every day. Cas liked to think they had been good friends.  Until they had a small fight. Well, maybe it was a bit bigger than small, but whatever. Dean had asked if Cas would ever consider going on a date with him, or if he would ever tour with him, and one thing led to another, and they were strangers again.  So Dean made a plan. They were about to wrap up their latest tour, so with Charlie’s help, he got in contact with Gabriel, and they got a plan that Cas’ crew would take him to a “party”, but they would actually be taking Cas to his second Boston stop. So as the night came, Dean was nervous. He didn’t do song covers often, but the band agreed it would be a great song, and Benny was happy to have a giant drum song. So it was decided.  The crowd came in and settled, Dean saw Cas in the stands glaring both the stage and his brother and friends, and the band slowly came through to finish all their songs. Cas stood up when he thought it was the last song when electronic drum noises came through the speakers, and the first notes of If I Had You by Adam Lambert came through, except it was Dean’s voice.  Cas, still standing, turned around and looked at the stage, to find Dean staring straight at him. Dean smirked and walked to the other end of the stage, and a tap on Castiel’s shoulder startled him out of staring at the man on stage. He turned and was met with a security guard, who took Cas, Balthazar, Hannah and Gabriel backstage, where they watched from side stage, before Dean came and dragged Cas on stage as the second verse finished.  Cas felt awkward and so out of his element, but he was smiling. He was on stage with Dean Winchester. He was dancing and singing with-

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Dean hadn’t toured in over a year, instead choosing to spend his time with his husband and their new born baby girl, Claire. The band was cool, and they announced to the fans they were on hiatus. They still got together and wrote every now and then, but ultimately, Dean’s time was spent with his family.  Cas was working late, and Claire wasn’t going to sleep easily, so Dean walked into his and Cas’ bedroom, and picked up the case that held his acoustic guitar. It had been a gift from Cas for Christmas the previous year. It was black and blue, and the neck was painted with a beautiful silver vine, while the body was decorated with paintings of a flock of birds.  He sat it down before picking Claire up out of her crib, laying her gently next to him on the couch, before he started strumming gently. As he found his fingering, the words and everything the song meant to him flooded back to him, and he smiled.  He softly started singing the beginning to Carry On Wayward Son, a song he grew up with where his dad would sing to him, and he smiled. Claire was watching him with fascination, and as he got further through the song, Dean could see her drifting off to sleep. She hadn’t had a nap, and dean figured that meant she would be having a good sleep tonight, which hopefully meant Dean would be too.  As he finished the song, he gently put his guitar back in it case, before picking Claire up and gently laying her in her crib. He took a moment to just look at her for a moment. He was happy. He had a family. He smiled before turning around, and startled when he saw Cas leaning against the door frame and watching him.  Dean ushered him out before gently closing the door, before smiling sheepishly at his husband.  “Hey, Cas.” He spoke, walking down the stairs towards the kitchen.  “That was so precious. I wish I recorded it.” Cas spoke in greeting.  “Yea, well, she was grumpy. She hadn’t had her nap today and I haven’t played in a while.” Dean shrugged. He was never one to accept praise easily, so why he ever started a band was beyond him.  “Well, sweetie, it was beautiful.” Cas answered, wrapping his arms around Dean’s neck. Dean just smiled, holding onto Castiel’s waist, where Cas lead them in a slow dance around the kitchen to the soft tune playing over the little radio Cas kept in the kitchen. It was something out of a fairytale, and Cas was happy.  They broke apart after the song finished, Dean kissing Cas on the forehead before grabbing out chicken breast and other various things to make them both dinner.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Dean still held tight to his ‘no unnecessary covers’ rule when it came to touring, but when his husband and his ten-year-old daughter were in the crowd watching with her friends and their parents for her birthday, of course he would sing the song that they always danced around to.  Dean and Claire had started singing, if you could call it that, Kryptonite together a couple years ago. Dean had heard it on the radio on the rare time he actually listened to it, and he had happened to have Claire with him, and so it became their song. Claire loves superheroes, and Dean had always stayed firm to him being Batman, but after hearing the song by 3 Doors Down, he didn’t mind playing Superman, as long as his daughter was happy, so was he.  So here he was, rocking out with his friends on their latest tour, coming to a close in the show, when Dean saw how happy his family and their friends were. He felt a wave of emotion come over him, and he stumbled over his words, which made Claire laugh and Cas smile, to which he smiled back. The song ended, and so he decided he had to make an announcement, so he whispered in his head of security’s, Kevin, ear, and got him to get the group up here on stage with him.  As he watched them be gathered and walk backstage, he started talking.  “Hope y’all have had a good night,” he called, hearing the answering screams of fans. “I have an announcement to make. Now, it’s not a life changing one, just a happy one. That song we just played, Kryptonite, was dedicated to my gorgeous daughter Claire,” he motioned for the group to come on stage, which was answered by the fans once again screaming. “Now, it is Claire’s tenth birthday today!” He shouted, leaning down to pick Claire up. He was getting to old to keep doing this, but as she settled on his shoulders, everything was right in the world.  Cas picked up the microphone off the floor, and surprised Dean by talking for him. Cas was no stranger to the stage anymore, and the fans loved hearing from him.  “Dean and Claire here have made a special bond over this song. So Dean decided to sing it for Claire’s birthday, and this group we have here,” he paused, motioning to the other kids and parents on stage. “We would like to sing happy birthday, so we would love if you guys would join us.” It was like a whole family just came together. In one moment, everyone started singing happy birthday, and Claire was hugging Dean’s head with all her strength. He held her small hand and kissed it, leaning down and letting Claire down so her friends could hug her as the song ended and the screams erupted once more. Dean smiled, pulling Cas in for a kiss before taking the microphone back and wishing the fans a good night, and in one large group, the band walked off, Benny going straight for Claire and letting her jump up for a-

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Dean had decided an impromptu road trip was what the pair needed. Claire was with Sam and Jess, and so Dean packed up the impala, and off they went. Rock music blaring through the speakers and windows down, and the pair had smiles on their faces.  Cas had started taking up writing in the last year, so as they drove, Cas wrote. He started on a story about two brothers who traveled across country hunting monsters. He had heard the song Animals by Nickleback at one point, and the whole devil an angel thing inspired him.  They drove miles upon miles, no destination in mind. They both loved the freedom, and Cas had never felt so inspired. Dean had been cooped up too long, so road tripping without the band and Claire was what they needed. Yes, they got stopped a few times by fans asking for photos, but aside from that, the trip was smooth sailing.  Cas continued to write, and he wrote about one character, Jared, driving the impala across the countryside, but he was having visions of the devil sitting beside him. The older brother, Jensen, was back at the motel they had stayed at with their angel friend, Dmitri. It was written in staggered parts, but as they drove, Cas found the story coming together.  They stopped at a beach one day in their trip, and feeling the sand between his toes made Cas feel at peace with the world. Dean watched him the entire time Cas relaxes, and he couldn’t believe he got this man to himself. He was the perfect husband, and an even better father. The fact that he wanted to be with a high school dropout like Dean still shocked him, even fifteen years into their marriage.  He thought back to their vows, and the way he quoted several rock songs in it, but it made people laugh, and they all knew that music was how he expressed himself best, so Cas let it slide. Cas, however, had the perfect English essay of a speech, but it did make Dean cry.  One thing he missed on the trip, aside from Claire, was his Rottweiler. Banjo had been a gift from Sam six years ago, and Dean had fallen in love as soon as he saw the puppy. He was fluffy, and smaller than Castiel’s Maltese dog, but he really grew up. He lost his fluff and in place developed a beautiful, shiny coat. He grew and came up to mid thigh on Dean. He was a sweetheart, and Dean wished he could’ve brought him along.  All too soon, they were heading home again. Cas was taking a turn driving, letting Dean to shuffle through his cassette collection to find something else to listen to, and when it proved to be a dead end, he flipped on the radio, and that’s when that old Adam Lambert song blared through the speakers.  Both men-

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Dean never imagined that he would be here. Standing with someone as amazing as his husband, he never thought he would be the one having a first dance. Sam and Jess has already been married just over a year, but the fact that now it was Dean; he may have cried. A few times.

The opening notes to a song no one recognised flowed through the speakers, before both the grooms stood and held each other in a slow dance. They had decided not to do a huge special dance, and instead left it as a slow sway. The song that was playing was one that Cas had gotten recorded specially by Jo, and man if it wasn’t beautiful.

The song depicted their lives, but through a different perspective. It was beautiful at how it was sung and described, and Dean couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

All too soon, their dance ended, and everyone joined them on the stage as a new song started through the speakers. The men both laughed, leaning in and landing a quick kiss before Charlie bounded over and dragged Dean away.
Dean always remembered that night. No matter how old he got, and how bad his memory became, he still remembered that night clear as day.Dean was coming on his eighty-seventh birthday. It was the first year he would be without Cas. He didn’t want his birthday to come. He hated the reminder that his husband had passed away. He still had Claire, jack and Meg, but Cas was his. Without him, he was lonely and depressed.Dean had stopped taking his medication not long after Cas had passed. He didn’t want to be in a world where Cas wasn’t. His kids didn’t argue with him, but that first day they had tried to. But ultimately, they knew Dean wouldn’t be happy until he was back with Cas.Cas had become a pretty big author. His angels series had taken off, and so now Dean imagined Cas as this big, badass angel who would always be watching over him. He had always been told by his mother, before she died, that angels were watching over him. And now, he knew for a fact it was true.Cas had always been an angel in Dean’s eyes, but now that he was alone, it was even more real to him. His kids saw his health deteriorating, and so when Dean passed in his sleep a week after his birthday, they weren’t shocked. They mourned, of course they did, but they knew it was better for him than being here without his love. When Dean opened his eyes again, he saw stars. Billions upon billions of stars. He felt a warmth in his hand, and when he looked down, he saw a hand entwined in his, and when he looked up, he saw those bright blue eyes once again. This was their heaven. The night before they brought Claire home from the hospital. It was their final night of peace, and so Dean had driven them out to an empty field, and it was there that they had-
