Sipping on his coffee, Namjoon looked over the classified notes that were left all over the kitchen table. He shouldn’t be looking at the important documents, but Yoongi shouldn’t have left them lying about. A jewellery store on the high street had been looted, and by Yoongi’s notes, he was pinning the crime on a gang local to the area. He scanned over the still pictures from the cctv footage, carefully picking one up to take a closer look. Yoongi had been working on this case religiously for the past week. He took all his cases seriously, from hit and runs to homicide investigations, yet it was painfully obvious that the older had missed something in this case.“You shouldn’t be looking at that, Joonie.” A voice came from the door frame, causing Namjoon to look up. There stood a tired, but smartly dressed, Yoongi; the light from the crack in the curtains covering his face in a warm golden glow. Namjoon put the picture back down, and turned to pour the tired man a coffee. “Well you shouldn’t of left everything out for anyone to look at, Hyung.” Namjoon replied as he picked up Yoongi’s favourite mug, filled with the dirty bean juice, and handed it to him. “Anyway, you should be thankful I was looking over it. You’ve missed obvious clues, the gang didn’t do it-”“The gang is the only obvious answer, Joon.” Yoongi replied, pushing his hair back out of his face. Although he put all his effort into his cases, it was clear that he was getting tired of this particular one. Yoongi told Namjoon everything. Thats how their friendship worked. Yoongi didn’t keep secrets from his best friend. The elder of the two would get home from working long hours and tell Namjoon what had happened as the two shared a bottle of wine. This past week, all Namjoon heard was “the suspects aren’t being co-operative”, “the owner is being shady”, “there were no witnesses even though it happened in broad daylight”. All Namjoon could do was offer a different perspective, a fresh set of eyes and ears. Yoongi knew not to leave classified documents out, but Namjoon sometimes wondered if the man did it on purpose just so Namjoon would become more intrigued and offer a new option that had not been thought of. Namjoon watched the shorter man gulp down his coffee, not caring that it was most probably burning the insides of his throat. He knew Yoongi well enough that he couldn’t function properly in the early hours of the morning without the caffeinated beverage. Ever since they were kids, Yoongi had always been the night owl out of the two of them. Sure, Namjoon could stay up until one in the morning, 2AM at a push, before sleep took over his body. Yoongi, however, often stayed up until the times that most normal people woke up to get ready for work. Everyone always said that Yoongi would grow out of it once he was no longer a teenager, yet the man was now 26 and still often stayed awake until the ungodly hours of the morning. Moving away from Yoongi and back towards the table, Namjoon picked up another still cctv picture to study it before speaking again, “I don’t think it was the gang, Hyung, and before you jump down my throat hear me out.” Yoongi hummed in response, gulping down more coffee and taking a seat in front of his paperwork. “Yoongi,” the younger of the two started, maintaining eye contact with the platinum blonde male, “I think the owner did it.”“You’re crazy, Joon.” He laughed, nearly dropping his favourite mug on the floor. Namjoon frowned slightly, and Yoongi instantly picked up on it. “Sorry, Joonie, but you know how crazy you sound right?” Namjoon frowned even more, sighing. He was only trying to help, and offer a different perspective on a case that was clearly frustrating his friend. “Alright, alright, Joon. Enlighten me, why do you think the owner did it?”Namjoon rambled on about the different cctv pictures showing the body language of the owner, like he clearly knew who was robbing him. He touched on the transcript of the interrogation with the owner, and how it showed he wasn’t being cooperative. He started pointing out that the owner’s timeline of events didn’t match what happened in the cctv, like the timeline had been rehearsed before and therefore ingrained in the memory of the owner. As Namjoon kept rambling on with his theory, the dots started connecting in Yoongi’s brain. How didn’t he see this before? “You even mentioned to me that he was being shady, Hyung. The answer was right in front of you, you just needed to look past the gang-““But,” Yoongi started once he thought the taller man had stopped, “we have fingerprint evidence of gang members being there? They’re somehow involved.” Namjoon nodded, and went on to explain that they were most likely working with the owner to stage the robbery, hence why they also were not being cooperative. Everything suddenly clicked in Yoongi’s brain; his best friend’s theory made sense. Finishing the rest of his coffee, he gathered up all his paperwork. “I’ve gotta go interrogate the owner again, your theory makes so much sense. I sometimes wonder why you’re not the detective, Joonie.” Yoongi chuckled, throwing a “thank you” out into the apartment before leaving for work - and leaving Namjoon alone with his thoughts.
