Work Text

Shimazaki found himself lingering there with no clear sense of time. Joining Claw was merely a means of amusement for him. Morals didn't dictate his actions; if ordered to punch a baby and feeling inclined, he'd do it without a second thought. However, he wasn't naive. He understood Touchirou's intentions and knew he could either exploit them or be discarded at any moment. His rapport with the others Touchirou recruited was amicable enough. They'd occasionally gather for drinks and board games, but Shimazaki wouldn't go as far as calling them friends. The gang was engrossed in a game of Jenga when Touchirou strolled in with a towering, weathered man in tow. He seemed oblivious to their activity, despite Shibata's clumsy attempt to conceal the game. Shibata's stumble, followed by a cacophony of falling wooden blocks and a yelp, failed to catch Touchirou's attention."Hey everyone," Touchirou announced, barely acknowledging Shibata's plight, "this is our new member, Serizawa. He may lack experience, but he's formidable... more so than any of you." As he uttered those words, the others tensed, exchanging incredulous glances. Really? That nervous-looking guy in those atrocious crocs?"Ehh... Really? That's a laugh," Shimazaki interjected, breaking the tension. "I thought I held the crown here, and I'm pretty confident in that... except for you, boss," he hastily added, sensing Touchirou's icy gaze on him.None of the prospective Super Five members disputed it. They'd already engaged in skirmishes upon meeting, vying for supremacy like wild beasts. Now, they simply hung out together and occasionally wreaked havoc."Don't be so certain, Shimazaki. Anyway," Touchiro turned to Serizawa, "my work here is done. I'll be off to attend to some pressing matters."And just like that, Touchiro vanished from the room, leaving Serizawa with four unfamiliar faces. Having left his room and home after fifteen years, Serizawa found himself in a vast building, far from his comfort zone. Clutching the umbrella the boss had given him, he reassured himself, "Everything's going to be okay. This is my new space."Minegishi was the first to approach him, his expression devoid of emotion. "Hey, we were playing Jenga. Want to join?"With a nervous nod, Serizawa agreed and made his way to the table. Meanwhile, Shibata scrambled to his feet, gathering the fallen pieces. Suddenly, a foot loudly struck the table."Playing games already, just after joining? You're not serious, Serizawa. Are you sure you'd rather play Jenga than explore our powers first?" Shimazaki chimed in, his tone falsely cheerful, inviting Serizawa to engage in a confrontation then and there."I'd rather not. I don't want to cause harm unless necessary," Serizawa replied, his nerves palpable."Are you kidding? You couldn't hurt me if you tried," Shibata retorted, moving closer to Serizawa and patting his back, only to realize he was broader and stronger than expected. Those baggy clothes concealed a muscular physique beneath. Strong indeed. Shibata withdrew his hand awkwardly. "Anyway, let's spar, shall we?""I insist... I'm still learning and can't fully control my strength," Serizawa replied, growing more tense by the moment. It was all too overwhelming for him."Ooooh, are you afraid of showing us you might not be as good as the boss claimed?" Shimazaki taunted. "I defeated the others in this room without breaking a sweat. Let's see if you can keep up, kid."Shimazaki withdrew his hands from his pockets, assuming a cocky stance as he teleported around Serizawa, attempting to goad a reaction out of him. Meanwhile, Serizawa clung to his umbrella, glancing over at Hatori with a confused expression, silently asking for guidance. Hatori mouthed under his breath, "Kick. His. Ass." further bewildering Serizawa. That's when Shimazaki began teleporting them, showcasing his powers. Shimazaki held Serizawa firmly by the waist, startling him. Typically, he'd just tap his shoulder, but today, he felt compelled to do it differently. They transitioned from one location to another in rapid succession, leaving Serizawa disoriented and overwhelmed. His anxiety mounting, Serizawa attempted to strike Shimazaki with his umbrella, but his efforts fell short."Getting defensive, are we? Let's dance," Shimazaki taunted. As they materialized in an empty room within the building, Shimazaki continued, "Please stop! I really don't want to hurt you!" Serizawa's aura intensified, his defensive stance growing more pronounced."Can you even hurt me?" Shimazaki challenged, evading Serizawa's attacks effortlessly. "Don't hold back, or is that all you've got?"With a surge of determination, Serizawa unleashed beams of light, aiming at Shimazaki. But Shimazaki dodged each one with ease."Don't restrain yourself. Is that the best you can do?" Shimazaki taunted further, goading Serizawa into action.Teleporting in front of him, Shimazaki delivered a swift kick to Serizawa's chin, sending him stumbling backward. His grip loosened, and his umbrella slipped from his grasp. Suddenly, a surge of esper power surrounded them, chaotic and volatile. Serizawa heard himself screaming as the ground trembled beneath them."AGGHH NO, NOT AGAIN!" Serizawa cried out, witnessing the chaos unfold.Shimazaki found himself immobilized, unable to move as the ground shattered beneath him. Paralyzed, Serizawa watched, his focus fixated on retrieving his umbrella. With a surge of determination, he lifted the weight restraining Shimazaki, sending him hurtling through a window. Serizawa hurriedly retrieved his umbrella, but it was too late. He peered through the broken glass, but the height of the building obscured any trace of Shimazaki's fate.Breathless, Serizawa rushed to the room where the rest of the Super Five were playing Jenga, recounting the ordeal. Upon hearing that Shimazaki had been sent flying, smiles spread across their faces."I like you, Serizawa. Someone had to rein in that rat," Minegishi remarked, returning to the game."But... he's dead! I—" Serizawa began, only to be interrupted as Shimazaki suddenly materialized before them, his appearance disheveled."Okay, fine. You're cool. You can hang out with us," Shimazaki declared, his cocky demeanor noticeably absent. Serizawa's concern turned to anger. "What did I tell you!? I was so scared something bad happened to you. Don't ever touch my umbrella, Shimazaki-kun."Shimazaki nodded silently and joined the others to resume their game of Jenga. He seemed indifferent to the events unfolding around him, but amidst the chaos of world domination, Serizawa appeared to be an intriguing individual.
