1. Princess AU- Cara/Kahlan. Princess Kahlan is rescued by knight Cara.Cara has been apart of the knights guard for longer than she can remember. Her mother and father were both highly respected guards and Cara swiftly followed in their footsteps. She has recently been assigned the post of head guard of the north quadrant. It’s an honor and Cara plans to do her job fully. She has known the king since she was young, her parents having worked for him during her entire childhood. She isn’t awfully fond of him, and she knows many people share her opinion. There’s horrible rumors of him being a cannibal, of him stealing children, of him creating monsters in his dungeon. After living in the castle for so long she can say that she’s never found evidence of any of these… but she has found something…When she was just graduating junior castle guard she was assigned a post in the northern quadrant. She had been stationed in the high tower. Her father had made it out as a big deal being up then when he was alive so she felt proud to be stationed there. She was on her best castle guard behavior for this first hour and then she grew bored. She slumped against the wall, no one was up here anyway. And soon she started humming to herself subconsciously. Suddenly she heard the grating sound of stone on stone and she looked around the flat stone corridor. Peering out from the far end was a girl, around her age. All Cara could see of her was pale skin, dark hair and a green eye. After a second of eye contact the girl hastily closed the hidden panel and Cara, confused and slightly frightened remained silent and still for the rest of the day. That night the King brought her to his private corridors. She was nervous, for this was among another of the hideous rumors following the King around. She entered his rooms and found two other guards in the room. She stood at attention, her training in the guard having hardend her and taught her how to wear a fearless mask. That night the King interrogated her about what she saw. She, knowing better, said nothing of the girl. After both verbal and physical interrogation the King seemed pleased. He told her that hiding in that tower was not only one of his most prized possessions, but one of his biggest secrets and from that day forward Cara would guard that corridor day and night. For the next fortnight Cara stayed in silence until her curiosity got the best of her. She decided to hum the same tune she had that first day. This time the wall did not slide back. For another fortnight Cara stayed in the corridor, rarely sleeping, and always humming. Sometimes she sang too. She continuously sharpened a dagger on a stone. For near a full moon Cara didn’t see that mysterious face again until one night she was humming a lullaby she had heard many times from her mother. She couldn’t remember all the words, but she did remember the tune. It took a little while for her to notice that a voice was singing along. She turned towards the spot where the door had slid back that first day and watched as it parted slightly. Cara stared at the sliver of the girl she could see through the door for a while before the young woman spoke. “Are you one of the castle guards?”The young woman’s voice was soft but strong and Cara unconsciously straightened up.“Yes, ma’am. Cara Mason.” They had forged a quick alliance. Terse because they were so very different, but soon it stretched into something more. Cara found that this girl, who would still not give a name, was her only company for her months in the tower. And the girl got no other visitors but Cara, and the King every few days. Cara was instructed to return to the castle guard’s quarters during the King’s visit but she always lurked within earshot of the tower, wondering what could be happening. She never heard much of anything. One day Cara finally asked the woman for her name. “It is Kahlan.” After a long pause Kahlan continued. “I’m sure you are wondering why I am always in this tower, and why no one knows of me.” Cara felt like nodding, but remained still. “And I thank you for your respect of my privacy.” The woman sighed before launching into her story. The King, her father, she professed, had locked her in the hidden room in the back tower. She said he told her it was to protect her from Rebels but she soon grew old enough to see through this lie. Now she’s not sure why she’s hidden away, only that she’s been there forever, and wishes to see more of the world than the little she can through the tower’s one window. Cara takes her story in stride and does not pry, instead sharing her own story of her parent’s, their untimely death, and her duty to the king. It is many more fortnights before Cara gathers the courage to ask Kahlan where she learned the lullaby. Cara thinks the question was worth it just to see the blush light up Kahlan’s cheeks, but the answer is even better. She tells Kahlan that a beautiful woman who once guarded this hallway would sing it during her time. Often Kahlan would peer out the door to watch the woman. In her description Cara recognizes her own mother and remembers her mother coming home after work whistling the tune and telling Cara about how she missed her during the day. It’s been almost a full year since Cara first was assigned Kahlan’s corridor and the King has finally made her head guard of that quadrant. She knows, now, that she can do the thing she’s been planning for a full five moons. She hopes to get Kahlan out of the castle so they can enjoy their days far away from the prying hands of the King. She and Kahlan have become close friends, but Cara is sure there is something more between them, or that, one day, their could be. She arrives after her meeting with the rest of the head guards, and her briefing with her second in commands, and starts whistling their lullaby. After a few seconds the door opens and Kahlan walks out. As always Cara is stunned by her beauty. “Princess.” She greets, eyes sparkling. “You know I detest that name Cara.” “That is why I enjoy giving it to you.”They talk through the morning until Cara finally broaches the subject. Kahlan is stunned at first, eyes wide, mouth agape and Cara’s not sure her heart has ever pounded this hard before. Then Kahlan’s eye’s crinkle and her mouth turns up in a smile as she embraces Cara and whispered her thanks. Cara thinks she may melt. Two nights later Cara has scheduled out the watch to leave a path straight for the stables. She and the stable master, a boy named Richard, were friends in their childhood and she knows he will not betray her and instead leave on his own way. She sneaks Kahlan out in the still of the night and they each mount a horse heading for the safe house Cara has planned. That night Kahlan gives Cara a kiss on the cheek, and thanks her for her bravery and Cara stays up all night watching Kahlan’s peaceful sleep, happy to see it not racked by nightmares as it once was. The next morning they continue on their journey to a small humble cottage which Cara inherited from her grandparents. It’s modest and unseemly, a place the King would never expect his missing daughter to be. Cara knows that the King has most likely already noticed her presence missing and will be sending out the guard soon. She chops off her golden locks at the chin and disguises herself in craftsmen’s leather, giving Kahlan a simple white dress. A few days later the guard comes riding by, but they do not stop at the cottage for more than a glance at the window. They only see two women sitting at the table, eating their morning porridge. The King never does find Kahlan, to his fury. Some night Kahlan worries about whom he pushed his anger onto, and some nights Cara feels like she’s betrayed her family but they look at their life, and they find it worth the trouble, even if some days are harder than others. It’s almost a half year since their escape, Kahlan’s birthday the first one she’s ever celebrated and they are sitting under the stars when Kahlan leans over and kisses Cara softly, whispering her thanks for Cara’s saving her life. Cara grins, kisses her back, and starts whistling their lullaby as Kahlan drifts to sleep on her shoulder. Cara’s not sure if the stars or her smile are brighter…

2. Magic War AU- Copdoc. Lauren sees Tamsin hurt, and, for some reason, helps her out. This war has been waging for centuries, and Lauren, although completely human, has been roped into ‘fighting’ for one side. She’s not in the actual combat, just a field medic, but she’s seen her fair share of death in the last few years. She goes out through the fallen warriors after the end of a battle, finding those who are still alive, and saving them, if she can. She knows everything there is to know about the magical wounds, the magical creatures, and the magical weapons, but she still does’t understand this magical war. There’s nothing to set apart the sides beside their uniforms, and honestly, that’s the only way Lauren knows who to save. It haunts her every day, walking by people, crying out for her help, but with the gray circle on their uniforms she knows she can’t help them. Until one day. She notices the wings first. They are magnificent in their grandeur. They look like angel wings, but Lauren immediately knows that they belong to a valkyrie. She’s surprised to see one for two reasons, mostly valkyrie’s don’t fall in battle, and also, Odin didn’t fight this war. No valkyrie’s should be here. She flips the nearly unconscious woman over and is stunned by the fierceness of her beauty. The armored breastplate and double edged sword both clash and coordinate with the modern military uniform the woman wears. She see’s the grey circle and almost swears. Half because she is so curious about valkyries that she would have loved to be able to study this one, but half because she knows she could save this one. It’s really just a particularly bad bullet wound to the shoulder. The woman’s eyes open and Lauren is captivated by them. The valkyrie splutters out two words before falling unconscious again. “Help me.” Lauren has read about Valkyries, how insanely proud they are, and she knows the only way they would ever ask for help is if there was some shred of human inside of them. Some shred of compassion, of will to live. She quickly strips the woman of her grey uniform and sticks on one that has the yellow sun on it. She knows there is no way that she will be able to take her back to base, one look and they will know she isn’t on their side. They have no vaklyries. So instead she runs into the nearest woods. She knows it will be a few days before the next altercation, and she hopes it’s enough time to get the two of them out. She’s been looking for an escape for months. She half carries-half drags the valkyrie behind her for most of the blistering afternoon before she collapses and covers them both in brush. She’s cleaned and dressed the valkyrie’s wounds, and she’s certain that the woman will make it. The next morning she wakes up early, and finds a rudimentary breakfast, berries and acorns. She brings it back and notices the woman awaking. She glances around stunned before her eyes whip up to Lauren’s. Those piercing eyes quickly focus in on Lauren’s golden sun and the Valkyrie scoots back, reaching for her sword. She unsheathe it with a terrible hiss, obviously in pain and Lauren puts her hands up before slowly walking towards the woman. It is with little fight that the valkyrie lets go of her sword and Lauren throws it to the side. “Where are we?” Her voice is stronger today and Lauren finds herself enchanted with this too. IT’s becoming a problem. “About twelve miles north east of the battle grounds.”“Why?”“Because I decided it was time to leave, and I thought I’d save your life on the way out.”The woman notices the bandages for the first time, and this time when she speaks it is with a much gentler tone. “I suppose I should thank you.” An awkward pause. “Where are we headed?”“I have some friends in a safe house in the closest city. It would normally be a two day walk but until you get your strength back it may take longer.”The woman started prodding at her wound, closed her eyes and started moving her lips in some sort of silent chant. Lauren watched in amazement as golden light poured out of her shoulder, and a few feathers wilted off her wings. The woman looked up at her, smirking at the surprise written across her savior’s face. “Perks of being a Valkyrie I guess.” She stood, her shoulder very stiff, but also very much healed and extended her other hand. “Tamsin.”“Lauren.” They shook. “Now, doc, I can’t say enough for saving my life, but I’ve got to get back. If anyone finds out I didn’t die out there I won’t survive a second time.”“Why don’t you let them believe you died.”“You can’t run from Odin.”“Well you can for a while…”Tamsin stared at her for a few minutes. Never moving her gaze from the doctor’s face. “You know what, let’s go.” She stretched out her wings and gave them a few test flaps. They seemed to be in working order so she walked up behind the unsuspecting doctor, latched her arms around the woman’s waist and flew up. She heard a quickly stifled shriek and started laughing. “So, which direction doc?”“Keep going north east.”It was five or so hours of flying before Tamsin grew too tired. They stopped in the edge of clearing and set aside a space to sleep for the night. It grew cold and Tamsin, taking pity on her savior, wrapped them both up in her downy feathered wings. The next morning Tamsin presented a rabbit and after breakfast they set out again. They reached the safe house to find it empty a note left on the door. Hotpants, (at this Tamsin snickered.) We left for The Boondocks (another safe house Lauren explained.) Food’s in the cabinets, and Beer’s in the fridge. Lauren explained that this meant the armies had been through but weren’t coming back, and that they could stay at the safe house for a while. She went to the cupboards and pulled out food, a loaded shotgun and some money. They decided to stay for three days before heading out again. In those three days Lauren learned of Tamsin’s many lives, and Tamsin learned of Lauren’s imprisonment. They were very different people, and thus clashed heads, but they had a similar view of life. Tamsin, the night before they were to leave, asked Lauren where they were going. “Away from here, I don’t really care where… any ideas?”After a long pause Tamsin answered. “I’ve always wanted to visit Toronto.” Lauren weighed the options in her head. canada was very safe from this war. It was as good a place as any to start over. She grinned back at Tamsin. “Sounds like a plan, eh?”It took them just under five months to reach Toronto, and once there, they found a house, found jobs, and decided to live the casual life. Tamsin a firefighter and Lauren a vet. Then, a year after the day Lauren saved Tamsin, Tamsin told Lauren the real story of why she was there. She was to meet her hero. The one she was supposed to protect until the hero went to Valhalla. She wasn’t told whom this hero was, only that she would know when she saw her. Tamsin said that she thought Lauren was an angel and that she had made it to heaven, even though she knew that the angels were really valkyries, and heaven was Valhalla. She told Lauren that Odin had sent her for that purpose, and that at first she was angry to have to spend the rest of her life with one hero, but she had never expected it to be quite this wonderful. Lauren didn’t hesitate to lean over and kiss the valkyrie, soft, slow and sweet. A year later Tamsin proposed, and they lived fulfilling lives until the day Lauren died and Tamsin, crying like she never had, carried her to Valhalla. There she pleaded with Odin to end her eternal life so she could live in Valhalla with Lauren. He smiled, a very rare occurrence, and granted his daughter her wish.

3. Accidentally Read their Diary. Maxoline. Max stumbles upon Caroline’s diary. It’s an innocent mistake, really. Max is home sick with a pretty bad flu and so Caroline’s out for the day covering double shifts so they don’t lose money. She comes out of her bedroom for the first time for some more of that crappy chicken noodle soup Caroline brought her and, while stumbling around, eyes puffy and red, she stumbles into Caroline’s bed. Her foot hits something hard under it, and, being a curious person, Max ventures to figure out what it is. It’s not pink and fluffy like Max imagined, instead it’s leather bound, real leather, she can tell, with pearls embedded into the spine. She’s not sure if those are real, but she’d venture to say they are. She flips through quickly and realizes Caroline has written in it with pink, purple, silver and gold gel pens like a fourteen year old. She snickers, flipping through more pages until she stumbles across her name. Curious she flips back to find the date they met. Not that she has it memorized or anything. She reads the first week’s worth of diary entries and snickers at Caroline’s judgements of her. As time goes on Caroline stops insulting Max and starts lamenting that max isn’t quite the girlfriend she wants. Max almost chokes on the soup she’s gathered until she realizes Caroline means girl friend. As in friend that’s a girl. But as it goes on she realizes something’s changing. Caroline stops lamenting about that and starts talking about Max in a different way. It’s a lot more endearing. Max feels like barfing, but she hold it i, not wanting to continue puking after a full night of nausea. She elects to continue reading. The entry from a few days ago stops her. mid spoon as she reads words she’d never expect to hear let alone read. ‘I think I’m in love with Max.’ There are tear drops on the page, smearing the bright pink ink. She can’t believe it but it’s tearing at the cold carcass of her heart strings to think that Caroline’s been crying. She keeps reading. “I know it’s pointless, because all our jokes are just that… jokes… but, I can’t help it, I can’t help but have fall in love with her.”Max slams the book closed, knowing she can’t read anymore, but also knowing she can’t forget what she’s read either. She throws the book back under Caroline’s bed and retreats to her bedroom, contemplating all she’s learned today. Caroline comes home late, exhausted and fines a heated up cup of chicken noodle on the counter. She eats it greedily and goes to check on Max. She knows the girl isn’t sleeping, but she also get’s the feeling that she shouldn’t bug Max tonight, so she goes back to her bed, takes out her diary, and writes another entry. For the next few days Max gets better but the air is tense around her and Caroline. Max still isn’t sur e what to do with the news of Caroline’s apparent love for her, and she can’t figure out what to tell do or say around Caroline. Caroline notices this and thinks the worse; that Max has finally gotten tired of her. It takes a few weeks but one night Max can’t sleep and she creeps out to get a glass of water. She’s silent at a mouse, she’s had lots of practice. She can hear sniffling from Caroline’s bed, and soon she realizes the other girl is crying. Max can’t believe the pain, she practically stabs herself in the chest trying to dull it, but she realizes it isn’t external. She goes back to her room and stays up all night, scared to death of what will come the next day. She notices Caroline’s eyes are puffy the next morning but says nothing. She’s off all day, distracted during all her shifts. She just can’t stop thinking about everything her and Caroline have been through, and how she can’t imagine her life without the blonde anymore. She thinks about all the time’s she thought about Caroline in that way and shoved it to the back of her mind. And she thinks about how goddamn scared she is to let Caroline in. She always picks the guys she knows she won’t really fall for because then she doesn’t have to put herself out there. But with Caroline, it’s too late. She can’t kick the girl out of her life, she doesn’t think she’d survive, but can she let her in completely, tell her all her secrets, can she be a good girlfriend. real true girlfriend not girl friend. She turns around and see’s Caroline smiling at her in the diner and she takes a breath and walks over. She’s never been so determined. She grabs Caroline’s face and plants one on her, and a good one in truth. Caroline drops the pen and notepad out of her hand, and wraps her hands around Max’s waist. After a few moments she pulls back with questions in her eyes. Max smiles.“I read your diary…”“Max!” Caroline smacks her lightly.“I’m not sure I can do this Caroline, but I’m actually gonna try.” Caroline is stunned by Max’s sincerity.“Why, Max, are you going soft on me?”“No…” She grins and kisses her again before leaving to grab food for her tables. She smirks at Oleg’s dropped jaw before he yells. “I KNEW IT”

4. Rockstar and Groupie AU. Soaking Canary. Sara is an up and coming rockstar, Felicity is a groupie. She’s seen her at nearly all their shows. Always wearing a tshirt from the first of their many t-shirt collections. It’s black with grey writing spelling out BLACK CANARY in big bold letters with a Yellow bird silhouette and green drum sticks. It was obviously worn, seeing as they had discontinued those tshirts over a year ago, but it made Sara smile to think someone had been a fan of theirs for that long. Her bandmates Oliver “Green Arrow” Queen[lead guitar], Timothy “Diggs” Diggory [Bass Guitar], Thomas ’T-man’ Merlyn [Keyboard], Oliver’s younger sister Thea “Speedy” Queen [synthesizer] and Nyssa “The Assassin” al Ghul [rhythmic guitar] joke around about getting a restraining order, and make fun of Sara when she defends the stranger. A few months after the come back home from a tour they have their first home-coming performance. They’ve been signed by a major recording company, and will be living two miles away in L.A. from now on. She see’s the familiar blonde and smiles, missing her face in the crowd. That night she comes up to the girl after the show and taps her on the shoulder. The blonde spins around bright eyes wide. She blushes and looks down as she recognizes Sara. “So, I’ve seen you around a lot? You a fan?”Felicty blushes. “Yea, I mean, I’m so happy that you guys got together, not that I knew you before that, but I’m just… glad you guys make music because I love the band!”“You’re cute.” She smiles. “Would you like to come to our after party tonight?”“Uh-A-a-are you serious?”“Yea, groupies are always invited.” She winks at the shorter woman and points with one of her drum sticks at the exit. “Meet me there in ten minutes and you can ride with us.” She smirks and walks away. Ten minutes later she finds the girl outside the exit near their van. She shoves her kit in the back and holds out her hand. “Sara, by the way.”The woman grins. “Felicity, Felicity Smoak.”“Nice name Felicity. Hop in the van.”The van is filled with the band and a few friends and it’s loud and Sara gives up really talking just listening and watching out of the corner of her eye as Felicity watches her. When they get to the party Sara gives Felicity a tour of the place, their pad until they leave for L.A. They reach the roof, noting special just some slate tiles and a railing. Sara jumps up and pulls Felicity up with her. They sit on the roof and Sara looks over at Felicity. “You’re wearing my shirt.”She blushes. “Yea, is it ok to say that you’re my favorite?”“No, I’ll allow it.” She bumps Felicity’s shoulder lightly. “How long’ve you been following us?”“Since your show at the stadium.”“Wow, a fan since the beginning.”“Yea.” There’s a small pause, comfortable and warm.“Where do you live Ms. Smoak?”“Well that’s a little forward” She grins back.“No, I just meant, we are leaving for L.A. and I was wondering if you’d be able to see our shows.”“Yea, totally. I actually work in L.A. Computer Technician.”“Wow, smarty pants.”“It gives me a lot of flexibility in my schedule.”They sit and watch the stars, trading questions and stories until the sky turns pink. Sara turns to Felicity and finds the woman staring back. “It’s been a great night, I’m glad I finally got to meet you.”“Right back at you.” There voices are low and airy and Felicity feels like she must be dreaming as Sara leans in and kisses her softly before jumping down the hatch and calling out. “I’ll see you tomorrow at the next show, yeah?” Felicity barely manages to yell “YEAH!” back before her mind goes blank and she squeals.

5. Alien AU. McWitham, They are from two different specie. One is well regarded, the other is not. They come together in an unlikely alliance to fight in the war. Betty McRae has always led a life of seclusion. Being a Kalthe means that’s what you do. Kalthe’s aren’t really any different from the other races on the planet or Gorfen, but, since they deserted the rest in the first war of their planet no one likes the Kalthe. She hides the bright red dots on her neck as best as she can and tries to avoid the stares. Gladys Witham is a Wilke. They are the most well off race, as a whole, and Gladys despises her guarded life of prim and proper meetings, archery in the backyard and horse riding side saddle. She’s decided to go off to war. No one can stop her and Gorfen needs to fight against the dark Ralm creatures of the neighboring planet. Betty decides to go off too. Maybe if the Kalthe fight in this war people would respect them more but it isn’t turning out well. There are only a handful of Kalthe volunteers, and they are all heavily discriminated against. Betty meets Gladys on her fourth day of active duty. They are building weapons, a new, high-tech bomb that’s nearly microscopic. It’s hard, meticulous work and Betty’s been training for a few months. Glady’s is pretty new, and kind-of ditzy, what more could one expect of a Wilke, but Betty respects her. They are both the under dogs. If there are not many Kalthe volunteers there are even less Wilke ones. Betty and Gladys soon form an alliance of sorts, they push each other to do the best work they can, so they can win this war. And they unite together, the two underdogs. It comes the time for them to actually hit the battle field. Witham is suited up in long rage combat gear, a scope on her bow, and modified arrows that fly faster and more accurately, tipped with bombs, fire, and/or poison. Betty’s down in the front line, as a hand-to hand combat foot soldier. She fights with a longsword and a dagger. Gladys can’t help but worry for her Kalthe friend. The Gorfen soldiers are losing badly in this, the most important battle. They are running out of foot soldiers so the arial attackers are given broadswords and instructed to attack. Gladys uses all of her might to take down the Ralm creatures, and is fairing pretty well. Soon she realizes she’s fighting next to Betty, and if they worked well together making bombs, they work even better fighter. They can sense each other’s movements before they even happen, and counter and parry and protect each other. Gladys takes a second and realizes that the Gorfen numbers are slowly dwindling while the Ralm creatures seem never ending, no amount of arrows, broadswords and hand bombs stopping them. In her distraction she feels rather than see’s a Ralm dagger swing towards her torso. In a second Betty is in front of her, and although the dagger finds a mark, Gladys feels nothing.Seeing Betty on the ground Gladys let’s out a scream of anger, quickly taking out the four Ralm creatures surrounding her, before dragging McRae off to the side. She quickly inspects the wound and almost starts crying when she see’s that it’s minimal. She’s surveying the massacre that has been this battle from behind the bush when Betty taps her. In one hand is one of their bombs. She know’s it’s theirs because it’s got a red cap, and a blue and purple tails. On one of the tails are the initials MW. Betty’s fingers fly through the bomb, quickly refiguring it into something much more powerful. Gladys reach down and takes off her shoelace, taking out her last arrow, a poison one,and gives it to Betty so she can tie the newly configured bomb tightly to the shaft of the arrow. They don’t now how big the blast will be and although Gladys see’s fear in Betty’s eyes she also see’s pride, and so she decides that, if they are going to die here, she’s not going to leave with regrets. She leans over Betty and kisses her long, hard and slow. She runs her hands through messy blonde hair, over a strong jawbone, and down against the bumps of Betty’s neck. She pulls back and stares at the shocked Kalthe before giving her one more peck, and standing up quickly sheathing her arrow. Two Ralm creatures notice her sudden movement, but before they can even start running Gladys let’s her arrow fly. It soars right into the middle of the creatures, but before Gladys can see if it hits a mark she feels Betty pulling her back down on top of her. The blast only barely reaches them and, wrapped up together, they roll a few feet before stopping. Gladys gets up and looks around, only one or two Ralm creatures retreating in the distance. She starts laughing, and Betty soon joins in. Soon Gorfen medics come down and help the both of them, and some other Gorfen survivors. Later both Gladys and Betty get medals of valor, and the Kalthe name is cleared, Betty and Gladys becoming one of the most famous war heroes of Gorfen history. But on calm nights, when no one is chasing after their story they curl up on the couch in front of the fire, wind their fingers together, and spend their time in each other’s company.

Lifeguard AU. Skimmons. Skye is the really hot lifeguard.  Fitz tries to drag her to the pool every third day during the summer. He claims it’s because he likes the swim, but she knows he’s crushing on the new lifeguard. After fourteen attempts (and failures) she finally gives in, packing a swimsuit (which she doesn’t plan to use), sunscreen and a book. Fitz is ecstatic and she literally almost hits him over the head with ‘Emma’ by Jane Austen. She examines the nearly empty pool (it’s overcast today), picks a spot in the shade, and opens her book. She’s been reading for maybe a minute when Fitz comes up to her, changed into his swimsuit, and indignant that she hasn’t done the same. “Fitz, I’m not going swimming.”“But…” his voice is wounded, she knows he’s milking this, “But you promised!”“No, Fitz, I said I’d go to the pool with you, I said nothing about swimming.”“That’s not fair Jemma, and you know it.”“All’s fair in love and war.”“But Jemma.” He grabs the book from her hands and sticks his puppy dog face inches from her nose. She knows she won’t last long, and honestly doesn’t have the energy to fight with him much longer. “Fine, I’ll change.”When she gets out of the ladies room Fitz is staring longingly into the distance. She follows his eyes and is shocked by what she sees. Sitting lazily atop the lifeguard chair, swinging a whistle through her fingers is an, admittedly gorgeous, lifeguard who Jemma infers is this ‘Skye’ she’s heard so much about. She flicks the back of Fitz’s head and he turns around, indignant, but also blushing. She’s scared of the twinkle in his eye, and soon she’s been pushed into the pool. She rises, muderous glint in her eyes, out of the water and jumps out of the pool in one motion chasing Fitz until she topples the both of them into the pool.As she comes up again she hears laughter. She looks around and see’s the beautiful lifeguard laughing heartily at the two of them. She blushes and makes eye contact. The lifeguard’s giggles fade, but her smile stays. “I’d tell you guys not to run, but I’m having too much fun watching this.” Jemma laughs. “Thank you, wouldn’t want to be escorted out.” She giggles before Fitz pulls her back under water.  They goof around for a while before they go to grab some food. “I think I should fake drowning, maybe she’ll give me CPR.” Jemma snorts at Fitz. “Yea right Fitz, that’s a great idea.”They head back, and Fitz decides to go play frisbee with some guys he’s met in the past couple days. Jemma’s introduced to them ‘Grant Ward’ and ‘Triplett.’ who has decided to only go by his surname. Jemma sits on a chair at the empty pool and reads Emma. “Is that a good book, I’ve never read it?” She’s startled out of her literary adventures by the voice. She looks up to see Skye sitting on a chair next to her. A quick glance shows her that a new lifeguard has taken her post. “Uh… yea, it’s one of my favorites. You should give it a try sometime.” She puts her bookmark in her book and sets it down, unsure of where this conversation is going. “I might.” The lifeguard grins. She sticks out her hand. “Skye.”Jemma shakes it. “Jemma.”“And you’re rambunctious friend?” “Fitz.”“You guys seem close.”“Yea, we’ve been friends for ages, he’s practically my brother.”“He comes here an awful lot.”“Yea” She grins ready for payback. “I think he has a crush on you.”“Does he? Well that’s quite sweet, but you’ll have to tell him that I don’t quite bat on his team.”She grins and giggles. “Aw, poor Fitz, always falling for the wrong girl.”“So this is a theme?”Jemma blushes. “Yea, he told me a few years back he’d fallen for me, and I had to tell him the same thing.”Skye grins. “Well, my shifts over, and I’ve got to go work the bar. I’ll be back in a few hours. I’m sure, if Fitz has any kind of schedule, you’ll still be here.  Jemma finds that Skye’s right. She’s finished Emma and is sitting looking at the sunset with her feet in the water when Skye comes back. “I thought you’d still be here.” She pauses. “It’s really quite beautiful isn’t it.”“Yes.” Jemma turns to Skye and see’s that the other girl is staring back. “Stop me if I’m being too forward.” It’s barely there, not quite airy enough to be a whisper, but low and soft enough that, even with their proximity, Jemma barely catches it before Skye’s lips latch on to her own.  Three days later Jemma is pulling on Fitz’s arm, dragging him to the pool.

Cordelia Foxx, attorney at law, rarely goes to the library. She has over four hundred books in her personal library, and all of the law books she’d need are located at her private practice, but her goddaughter, Zoe, had mentioned, for the umpteenth time, about reading the Harry Potter series, and she finally decided to read the books, if only to get Zoe off her back. She walks into the local public library, which is both quaint, and quite marvelous. It’s an old building, marble columns, balconies, four floors, she walks swiftly over the marble floor, heading towards the young-adult fantasy section. It’s quiet in the library, almost closing time, and she sees no one in the place, but it’s huge, so who knows if they’re hidden behind bookshelves, or in a back room. She quickly locates the Harry Potter section and picks out the first book. She turns around, and is startled to see the Librarian sitting at the desk, headphones on, softly playing a song that Cordelia’s sure she’s heard before but can’t identify. She walks up to the desk and the young woman looks up. Cordelia is startled by her eyes, bright and expressive, and Cordelia’s never understood why people say they can be ‘lost in someone’s eyes’, until now. She clears her throat and the spell is broken. The young woman smiles shyly and pulls out her headphones. When she speaks it’s is with a light and airy souther accent which stands out in the New York atmosphere of Cordelia’s life. “Sorry, about that, most people don’t come in,” She checks her watch “four minutes before closing.” Now it’s Cordelia’s turn to smile shyly. She sets the book on the counter, and pulls out her wallet. She notices the librarian looking at her strangely. “Have you ever been to a library before?”She blushes. “No…”“You don’t pay for the books, you take them home, you read them, you bring them back.”“Oh….” She grins. “Sorry, my goddaughter’s been bugging me to read this series, and I just decided on a whim to get it tonight when I passed by the library.”“Well that’s quite alright. Now, I know you won’t be able to read just the first one, so I’m going to give you a library card to fill out, so you don’t have to fill out forms all the time.”“Why thank you…” She glances at the woman’s name tag, “Misty.”“You’re very welcome.”Cordelia quickly fills out the library card form and hands it to Misty. “That’ll be it, let me just scan you’re book Miss… Cordelia.”Cordelia blushes at her name, always embarrassed of it, and how odd it is. “That’s a very beautiful name, has anyone ever called you Delia?”“Yes, my goddaughter, the one who forced me to read these does actually.”“Well, you’re goddaughter seems to have good tastes, you should bring her here some time, I’d like to meet her.”Misty grins at Cordelia who smiles back, picks up her book and walks to her car. That night Cordelia finishes the entire first book, and shows up at the library after her shift at work to pick up the second one. Her heel’s click on the marble floor and she turns the corner to the young adult fantasy section and meets bright eyes and a brighter smile.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

The year is 3118 and the cities Fede, Espoir, and Amar, have fallen to the rebels. The government has countered Fede with the forces of the neighboring city Perso. Espoir is being countered by Puer and Amar by Odiar. Charlie is a cyborg who lives in Espoir with her band of misfits. They started the rebel uprising in Espoir and are currently arming themselves to fight Puer. The leaders of the uprising are Castiel, Dean, Sam, and herself….It’s four days into the siege by Puer, and the Espoir rebels are losing steam. They’ve heard from their scouts that Fede fell to Perso, and that Amar is fading quickly. Running out of ammunition, medical supplies, food and soldiers, Charlie, Castiel Dean and Sam have a meeting to discuss the outcome. No one is optimistic. It’s six days into the siege and Fede as officially fallen to Perso, and Amar is on it’s last legs. Espoir isn’t much better, and they barely have three hundred troops left to fight the seemingly never-ending army attacking them. It’s nine days into the siege at 23-hundred hours and both Amar and Fede are gone, Espoir looks to be following quickly and Charlie is the only one with any hope left, the boys have all but given up. That night, as they are camped out in the trenches, eating the bread and gruel they can spare they are suddenly and silently approached by what looks like five-six hundred cyborgs, all carrying massive packs. Sam and Cas are out for the night and Dean and Charlie are on night watch. Charlie stands up and approaches the leader, easily picked out, walking maybe two hundred feet in front of the others. Charlie notices that these people are all wearing emerald green armor, rusting over, covered in mud and earth, but most definitely (at least at one time) bright green. Charlie stands, as tall as she can. She looks at the cyborg leader in the eye before the other soldier sticks out her hand. “Charlie, I presume? I’m Dorothy Gale.”Charlie, already grasping the cyborgs hand, covers her gasp with a fake cough. Dorothy Gale the fabled war hero. For her part Dorothy smiles slightly. “So you have heard of me.”“Why…Why are you here?” Her question is clipped, and terrified. “We’re here to help.” She glances back at all her people and Charlie can’t help but believe her. “Well we definitely need that.”It’s thirteen days into the siege and at 13-hundred hours Espoir conquered Puer. Charlie and Dorothy fight side by side, constantly at the heat of the battle. It’s twenty days into the siege and Amar and Fede have been re-instated as rebel cities. Charlie and Dorothy have lead both attacks, and are being regarded as heroes in the community. It’s forty days into the siege and Charlie and Dorothy, and Cas Sam and Dean have split up into groups to spread the rebellion across the country. It’s sixty days into the siege and at oh-eight-hundred hours the government falls to the rebels. A democracy has replaced the dictatorship, and cyborg segregation has been eradicated. It’s sixty one days into the siege at oh-one-hundred and three hours, and Charlie and Dorothy have shared their first kiss. It’s sixty one days into the siege at oh-one-hundred and four hours and Sam is quoted on permanent record at shouting “I KNEW IT” from his balcony loud enough to be heard across the city.

10. Time traveling AU Annabeth/Clarisse [Sent back to ancient Greece and have to survive]Annabeth and Clarisse have applied to become Heroes of Olympus. Zeus informed them that while Grover was on his second heroic lifetime, and Percy on his first, both Annabeth and Clarisse have lived twice before, gone to Elysium, and tried for the Isle of Paradise both times. If they succeed to Elysium this third time, they will make it to Paradise. Zeus informs them that the Island is crowded, and, after re-evaluating the people who have made it there Zeus has decided that all demi-gods [both greek and roman] will have to complete a task to allow them into Paradise during the third of the three lives. He informs them that they will be transported to Ancient Greece. They will arrive in the Trojan war, and they will have to survive. Those ten years will pass in ‘god time’ [feeling like ten days and taking ten mortal weeks]. They arrive and both realize something quickly, they are dressed differently. Clariise, with her shining electric spear armed with Greek fire is clearly a Trojan, while Annabeth, with her New York ball cap transferred into a helm is obviously a Greek. They stare at each other. “Athena fought for the Greeks…” Clarisse trails off. “And ares for the Trojans.” Annabeth finishes.Clarisse sighs. “Listen, Bird Brain, if we’re getting through this we aren’t going to be able to do it on our own. We fight like we usually do, then, the night with the horse, come get me, I’ll let you know where I’ll be staying, and we can escape with Aeneas, ok?”Annabeth sighs, thinking that Clarisse’s simple idea will be a lot more difficult to carry out, but she nods anyway. They start to head off in different directions, Clarisse past the wall, and Annabeth to the camp. “Clarisse!” Annabeth shouts…”Be careful okay?”“Don’t worry Bird Brain, I’ve got this.” She walks away spinning her spear and Annabeth mutters “Famous last words.”The next few ‘days’ which Annabeth soon realizes are years in Greek time, fly by. Annabeth is barely fighting, but they’ve figured out she’s a good strategist, and she’s glad she’s read the illiad because she’d rather not change the history of the world, so she tries to be good, but not too good. She meets Odysseus, and he’s kind-of a deuche, which isn’t that surprising but still. She also meets Achilles, and, although he’s pretty cocky, she likes him alright. Teucer is actually the Greek she get’s along with most, she trades some knife training for archery practice, and finds herself actually being able to shoot. Clarisse on the other hand has risen through the ranks, and although she detests the Trojans [especially Paris], she finds the training worth her time. She’s met Cassandra, and feels terribly for the girl, but has found that Deiphobus is her favorite child of Priam and Hecuba. She doesn’t get to see Annabeth until the sixth day, when she’s actually on the battle field, hacking away at Greeks. She spies the other girl off to the side, fighting with Diomedes. She knows Annabeth is good, but Diomedes is undoubtedly better. She moves her way over and allows a greek warrior to get the upper hand. Diomedes blocks the knife and annabeth, taking clarisse’s hint, allows her knife to come rocketing down on Clarisse, who blocks it with her spear. They fight like they do at camp, both pushing the boundaries of ‘safe’ sparring. Annabeth’s got a small burn on her left hand, and Clariise’s got a cut on her right cheek. But Clarisse’s grin is feral, and Annabeth’s sweating but there’s a definite twinkle in her eye. The fight until the greek’s fall back. Clarisse cheers with the Trojans and winks at Annabeth then glances at a window in the far north corridor. Annabeth nods back. They don’t see each other until the tenth night, and they both know what’s going to happen. Annabeth is shoved into the trojan horse with odysseus, and she never thought about how bad a wooden horse full of men would smell until this moment. The second they are let out Annabeth stuffs her helmet on and runs towards the North corridor. She crashes through the door she knows connects to the room with the window Clarisse had pointed out and breaks down the door. She realizes she may not have run fast enough when she see’s Clarisse locked in combat with Teucer. Annabeth doesn’t want to betray her friend but she slams him over the head with her helm, drops it, grabs Clarisse’s hand, and runs. They realize quickly that both Trojans and Greeks are fighting them, obviously inferring that they are traitors and Clarisse pulls Annabeth to a deserted hall, she quickly ditches her trojan identifiers and rips her clothing, Annabeth nods, reassuring her that she looks enough like a greek. Smoke, green from the chemicals of greek fire, is surrounding them and as they run through the palace they are stopped multiple times by the fire. They finally are surrounded by fire until Clarisse spies a window. She practically hauls Annabeth over her shoulder and jumps out the window, greek fire lapping at her calf if the scream she lets out is any indicator. As they roll on the ground Annabeth stands up quickly, checking the area for warriors before bending down to check on Clarisse. She’s clearly in agony, but Annabeth doesn’t know what to do, she’s scared Clarisse’s groaning will attract attention so she softly puts a finger to the other girls’ lips who valiantly stifles the screams. She does’t know why tears are pricking at her eyes when she looks at the burn until she realizes the fire is spreading to outside. “Leave me, Princess.” Clarisse manages to huff out. “They won’t let me die for real.”“But you deserve to go to Isle of Paradise.” Annabeth choked out, through the smoke.“So do you, better one than none, go!” Clarisse insists, sweat beading on her forehead. Instead, Annabeth drops to her knees and thinks. “Mom, Ares, Zeus, everyone!, give me the strength to carry her out of here.’ She takes a deep breath and puts her arms under Clarisse. She takes another breath before lifting up, expecting to barely lift her she’s startled that the other girl is light as a feather. She runs towards the water and jumps into a row boat, setting Clarisse down and rowing as fast as she can, leaving the burning scene of Troy behind her. She rows until the sun sets on this, the tenth day, and then she finds herself falling asleep. When she wakes up, Athena is grinning down at her, she’s in an infirmary in Olympus, she knows this because everything is light, and warm, and gold. She looks to her left and breathes a sigh of relief when she see’s Clarisse, awake and grinning at her. “I thought you were supposed to be smart, Bird Brain.” Clarisse teases, a twinkle in her eye.“I thought you were supposed to be invincible, Muscle Head.” Annabeth coughs out. It takes them a few months to get out of the hospital, and in that time Clarisse shifts between shyness and embarrassment and anger for Annabeth’s saving her. By the time they’re both back in camp, the revelation that no matter what they will be going to the Isles of Paradise sets in and after the camp’s bonfire [in honor of their two new heroes.] Clarisse takes Annabeth to the beach, still on one crutch. They sit down and Clarisse stays silent before she leans over and kisses Annabeth. “I never said thank you.” She blushes. Annabeth laughs loudly and grabs Clarisse by the neck and kisses her.

11. Many timelines AU    - Benstridge [They meet across the universe in different times. As       medieval peasants, tudor aristocrats, industrial revolution workers,       hunter/gatherers in the African forests, 21th century actors, and       astronauts on mars.] Beth works for the queen, she’s one of the scullery maids, milking cows and collecting eggs. It’s good that she grew up on a farm before getting this job, because she knows exactly what to do, and is easily the most efficient and well payed of the peasants, which isn’t saying much, but still. When the queen gets married she selects only a few of her household [all the way down to pages and scullery maids] to accompany her to the new palace, with her husband, and beth is grateful that she is chosen. The King has over twenty pages, and three of them get along quite well. Iain’s not great at the whole ‘horse grooming’ seeing as he’s scared shitless of the animals, and Brett shows off much too often for King Gregg’s liking, but Chloe’s great. The animals love her, and she’s valiant in every way. When the queen comes to their palace, she’s got a whole new stew of pages to deal with, but the fourth day after the newbies are settled she’s grazing their best mare in the fields when she spots a scullery maid carrying two pails of milk. The mare has been grazing for a while, and seemed content, so Chloe went running over to the girl, swiftly grinning and picking up one of the pails. “Let me help.” Chloe smirks. The girl grins shyly and they walk together to the barns, Chloe whistling for the mare to follow. ————————Chloe hates the aristocrat life, the poofy dresses, the tea, the court drama, but the one thing she does love is traveling to the palace of the english queen with her lady. In the first moments of their welcoming ball she spies one of the ladies of the queen, and obviously she’s not the only one. She hasn’t seen the girl take a break from dancing, suitor after suitor coming up. The ball trickles out as the queen goes to her quarters, and the men take their conquests to their quarters. The girl has been asked and even pleaded to accompany many men, but she has refused most of them, now choosing to sit and watch the stragglers dance. Chloe walks carefully over, standing next to the girl. She can see the band is signaling for one last dance and she winks at the violinist [her friend Iain] and he winks back, signaling to the rest of the band to play Chloe’s favorite waltz. The ballroom is nearly empty and Chloe sets down her wine. “I know you’ve danced all night, but could you spare one more?” She asks smoothly to the young woman who looks dejected and tired as she turns to face Chloe, rejection written on her lips. When they meet eyes the other woman stops, clears her throat, and nods holding her hand for Chloe to take. Chloe leads her onto the deserted dance floor, and twirls her around, at first silly in time with the jig the two of them giggling until the band switches to the waltz and Chloe pulls the girl in before she can protest. They dance the night away, Iain staying to serenade their feet through the twilight hours. The next morning Chloe’s feet ache in her pinched shoes, and yet she can’t stop grinning, until she realizes she never learned the other girl’s name. She vows to find out at the next dance, and finds that the poofy dresses, tea, and court drama aren’t as exhausting as usual. ——————Chloe has just moved from China and her job in the factory is hard, dark, tough and dangerous. She works long hours, and lives with twelve other people in a two-room flat. Her roommates circulate quickly, most realizing Boston isn’t the best place to live at this time, but Chloe is adamant that she must stay there. She’s never met some of her roommates, they work while she sleeps and vise versa, but she notices when this new girl moves in, the kitchen is more often stocked, and everything’s cleaner. She asks Scarlett, from Germany and Iain, from Scottland, who has been cleaning the apartment. Scarlett doesn’t know but Iain says it’s a girl from England named Elizabeth, and points her out in the midst of the muggy workers living in the loft. Chloe’s dumbstruck, Elizabeth is way too beautiful to be working in one of the rudimentary factories of the time, and she verbalizes this to Scar and Iain who both laugh. She and Elizabeth become friends quickly, Chloe showing her around [although she barely knows the place herself.] in return for Elizabeth helping her even more with her English, and soon their relationship develops into something more. Chloe moves up the company swiftly, her goal to take Elizabeth out of the work force, and in return Elizabeth has given her hope as to why she stayed in Boston for so damn long. ————————They meet on set the first day and Chloe’s kind of enchanted. It might be the accent, or the face, or the whole picture but whatever it is Chloe falls in love quickly and severely. Lil, on the other hand, takes her time, and every time Chloe and her get to know each other better she feels herself falling farther and farther. Iain, Clark, Brett and the rest of the crew figure out what’s happening fairly quickly and slowly start pushing the two girls together. The writers are pushing for their characters to fall in love and while Lil is all for it Chloe pretends to be but addresses them in private, concerned about ‘an endgame allowing for blockades for a character’. The writers see right through her and push it anyway. The first time ‘Skye’ and ‘Jemma’ kiss it doesn’t quite give Chloe the satisfaction she wanted, it’s staged and she’s surrounded by crewman, and Lil knows that Chloe’s disappointed, so that night, as their leaving, she calls her over slyly, leans up and pecks Chloe on the lips before walking off calling goodnight over her shoulder. ———————The program appealed to Liz’s interests. She’d never been great at science, but it was super intriguing and she really did want to be an astronaut. Being put in the first shuttle to mars scared her, but it also made her feel brave. She found herself on Mars with a handful other people. She’s instantly attached at the hip with Iain, and admires both Ming and Clark, who function as the astronaut leaders, already training for this mission for years. She’s created a friendly tolerance for the hulking bro’s Brett, B.J. J. and Henry but it’s Adrianne and Chloe who catch her eye fully. The three girls get on instantly and Liz feels an immediate pull towards Chloe, as if there’s something more between them. While wandering around on Mar’s surface in their space suits tethered to the ground it’s always Chloe who is ‘accidentally’ bumping into her, and Adrianne who’s giggling at the two of them. It’s been about four months since they’ve been up here and one day in their pods at base Liz takes the walk to Adrianne’s room to talk to her about Chloe. She feels the attraction and wants to act on it but wants Ad’s opinion first. “I think you should go for it, she really likes you.” Is the first thing Adrianne says in response to Liz’s question. “You really think so?”“I know so, Liz, just go for it.” Smiling, Liz leans over to give the other woman a hug and notices a quick cough from the doorway. Spinning around she sees an angry looking Chloe at the door. “Sorry to interrupt but it’s time for medicine and training.” She turns on her heel and storms off. “What was that?” questions Liz frantically. “I’m pretty sure that was Chloe thinking that you’d jumped on the chance to ask me out.”“Ahhh” Liz sighs before letting the cogs in her head wheel around. Then she springs off the bed the two girls had been sitting on before racing down the halls yelling a thank you over her shoulder to a bemused Adrianne. She arrives at the base’s infirmary quickly, stands in line, gets her medicine and races to the kitchen where Chloe usually is after vaccines. She finds the girl angrily pouring herself a glass of whiskey and she scoots up silently behind the other girl before grabbing the glass out from under Chloe’s arm and dumping it down the sink. “Medicine and alcohol don’t mix well.” She teases before turning on the stove. “Why don’t you sit down and I”ll make us some tea.”“I’m not in the mood to talk, Liz.”“Well that’s too bad because I have something to say.” Liz’s voice is the harshest Chloe’s every heard it and so she demurely sits at the bar. As Liz prepares the tea she starts speaking. “I know why you’re angry and although I don’t blame you I seriously wonder how you could be so blind. I have no feelings of a romantic inclination at all towards Adrianne, I do however have some towards you.” She pours the boiling tea into a mug before adding sugar and milk. in front of Chloe maintaining eye contact over the bar with the stunned woman. “And I had gone to Adrianne asking her wether or not I should go for it and tell you. She had encouraged me to do so, and I hugged her in thanks as you walked in.” Liz grins triumphantly at the blush that rises on Chloe’s cheeks. “So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to see what you think about us. Together.” She sets the steaming mug down in front of Chloe maintaining eye contact over the bar with the stunned woman. It takes a few seconds for Liz to realize that scalding water is pouring down the front of her shirt too busy relishing in the feeling of Chloe’s hand fisted in her shirt, pulling Liz towards her, and pressing their lips together. ———————

AU PROMPT #1212. Country fair kissing booth Karmy [Amy is the one who has been roped in as the kisser, Karma is drunkenly dared by her friends]Her mother runs the Country fair every year and most of the time she asks the boy down the street to run the kissing booth. He’s good looking, smart, kind, and not perv-y [or as not perv-y as a high school boy can be], but he’s off at college now, and her mom’s all out of ideas. It’s her stepsister Lauren who offers up the idea and Amy’s about to smack her across the table when her mother kicks her under the table, makes a quick glance at their pastor who is eating sunday dinner with them and smiles through her teeth.“That’d be wonderful, thank you Lauren.”Her mom knows Amy’s gay, most everyone does and Amy can tell the only thing her mom is worried about is how many girls will be lining up to kiss her. The day of the fair Lauren drops off floss and breath mints at the booth before snickering and walking to her own job of face painting. Amy flips her off as she walks away and, like she has eyes in the back of her head, Lauren flips her off back without turning around. The day is long and dreary straight girls who want to try it out, straight guys who think it’s hot, gay guys who like to make fun of her and one or two lesbians who slip Amy their numbers show up and Amy feels like burning her lips off once she gets home. Karma’s been wandering around the fair with her best friends Shane and Liam all day, daring each other to play kid games or to prank the Raudenfeld-Coopers who run this thing when they stumble upon the kissing booth. Liam and Shane high-five before turning towards Karma and simultaneously daring her to kiss the girl. Her guy friends know she’s bisexual and that’s she’s held a torch for the softball star Amy Raudenfeld for years, but there also a little drunk on Boone’s Farm or they’d never have pushed her to do this, not even for their game of Ultimate Dare. Either way, Karma’s a little tipsy too and so she saunters up to the kissing booth smacks down her ticket and lays one on the stunned blonde girl on the other side. The kiss is pretty sloppy [Karma may be more than tipsy] and Amy can’t help but laugh at the serene look that crosses Karma’s beautiful face once they pull away. She smiles, pulls out a pen and writes her number on the flips ice of Karma’s ticket before handing it back to the girl. The next morning after nursing a pretty terrible hangover Karma notices a fair ticket on her bedside table with a note on the back reading:When you’re breath smells a little less like Boone’s Farm and you can keep yourself upright why don’t you call me so we can try that again. —Amy (512-555-7482)

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

It was a regular day for Dr. Maura Isles, she got up at precisely 6:02 am, got in a short run, a quick shower, and a healthy breakfast by 7:15 which gave her just enough time to get ready for the day and make it into the office by 8:30 where she would work until lunch break at one and then again until it was time for her to leave. On slow days this meant 5. On other days it could mean much later.Today she was walking out the door at exactly 5:13 when she decided she’d do something a bit different. Instead of taking main street to high street to fourth street and catching the five o’clock bus or taking a cab [as she was prone to do] she decided to walk the long way to the bus stop. The bus wasn’t due until 5:40 so she had plenty of time. So she went off of main street on to Poppins Boulevard and walked among the houses. It was here that her life would change forever.About halfway down Poppins Boulevard she noticed a rare and exotic species of bird. It was an extreme anomaly to see this type of bird anywhere, let alone Boston. So Maura stopped to look the bird flew onto a perch in the large hedge-maze that Maura assumed belonged to some sort of park. Spying the unlocked gate she entered the maze and navigated herself to the bird.Once she got there, she heard talking and, not thinking much of it, went about her time. It wasn’t until a candlestick and a clock rounded the corner, animatedly discussing something or other that she paid any attention. She promptly fainted.——She awoke inside a grand hall, on a decorative rug, wrapped in blankets in front of a large fire. She could hear a thunderstorm raging in the distance. She looked around, unsure of why she was there until a distant bell tolled the time and she remembered what had sent her fainting. I must have inhaled too many toxins was her first thought. She knew she’d been asleep for a few hours, so she decided that all the toxins must of left her body by now. That was until a small chipped teacup followed by a very large teapot bunched her way.“Darling, would you like some tea?” asked the teapot with a, surprisingly, bostonian accent. Maura’s not sure but she thinks she may have passed out again. Either way in a short time the clock and the candelabra came in and introduced themselves. It was then that Maura thought it would be best for her mental health to just roll with the punches until the toxins worked their way out of her system. The candelabra introduced himself as Barry Lumiere Frost which struck Maura as quite odd. At the word “Barry” the old clock chuckled until the candelabra introduced his counterpart as Vincent Cogsworth Korsak. They started bickering until the teapot chastised them and reminded them to stay quiet. “We don’t want to wake up Jane-y she’ll be extremely upset if anyone from out there new about this, or worse yet, saw her.”Maura had to admit her interest was piqued. The teapot introducer herself as “Angela Rizzolli Potts” and told Maura to call her “Ma”. She then introduced her son “Frankie Rizzoli Potts” ‘but everyone calls him chip.It was then that a door slammed and all the lights, including the candelabra’s went out. She heard a soft “oh no” before the door to the hall opened. Illuminated by the crack of lightening from outside stood a tall, hairy creature. When the candelabra stoked the fire Maura could see that the creature was some sort of cross between a wolf a bear and a human, although distinctly female with delicate facial features the beast was terrifying with it’s gleaming dark hair/fur and it’s shining green eyes. Maura was pretty proud of herself that she didn’t faint this time.“WHO IS THIS!!!” Bellowed the beast in a low but distinctly feminine voice. No one in the room spoke, so, gathering her courage, Maura stood up and extended a hand. “I-I’m Dr. Maura Isles, Chief Medical Examiner, I work with the Boston Police Department.”The beast’s growl died in it’s throat when Maura mentioned the BPD and she swept out of the room, spitting “show her to the guest room” over her shoulder before spinning around “and make sure she doesn’t leave!” and leaving, tail swishing madly behind her.The teapot sighed before leading Maura to a giant room. There Maura sat on the huge bed before looking out at the Boston skyline through the window. She quickly unlatched the window and stepped onto the ledge, judging the height of the jump when she heard a grunt.“Thinking of leaving, are we?” came the gruff voice of the monster.Holding in her surprise Maura immediately disregarded her gut instinct to lie.“Honestly? Yes, I was. You see, I have work in the morning.”“If you earn my trust I will allow you to go to work, but you must come straight back here, and you must tell no one of what you have seen.”“No one would believe me if I did.”At this the beast chuckled a bit then came to the window.“I’m sorry for the harsh reaction earlier, I haven’t had visitors in… a very long time. I’m not used to them, but I see no judgement in your eyes.”“Well, none of this is real.”The beast bristled. “What do you mean?”“I work with a lot of chemicals, they’ve obviously messed with my brain.”The beast visibly angered then stood to it’s full height bellowed “STAY OUT OF THE WEST WING” and left, slamming the door behind her.Confused, Maura was left pondering her fate for a while longer. The next day the teapot, who’s till insisted Maura refer to her as “Ma” ushered her out the door, Maura stopped by her apartment, grabbed some essentials, called a babysitter for Bass, her tortoise, and went into work.At around 5:35, Maura walked down main street and as she came to the intersection of Poppins street, toting her suitcase and duffle, she really debated just taking the bus to her apartment, but she had given herself a tox-scan at work and was clear and she really wanted to know what was in that mansion, so she turned onto Poppins street, entered the garden and found the entrance to the house.——She was greeted by the candelabra, and that’s when she knew, this wasn’t a hallucination. She soon found herself face down on the floor. When she woke up she was in her “room” and the teacup was sitting on her bedside table. “You sure do like falling over.” He chuckled. She blushed and sat up.“Do you know what time it is?”“Nah, that’s a question for old man Korsak, but I can go ask him for you!”“No you don’t— actually that is a splendid idea, do you mind?”“Not at all I’ll be back in a jiffy.”It was then that Maura slipped out of the room and wandered down to the West Wing. If she was going to be here for a while she was going to know what the beast didn’t want her to see.She wandered around until she came across the west wing. The setting sun came shining in through the ripped curtains, providing the only light for the area. From what she could see the whole wing was destroyed, as if the beast had gone on some sort of rampage. She walked around careful not to disturb anything when she stepped on something. She heard glass crinkling and, curious, she turned the thing she had just stepped on over. It was a picture frame and after some careful dusting with her fingers and a little rearranging so she could use the quickly setting sun’s light she finally saw what the picture was of.She was captivated by the sheer beauty of the woman in the picture. Although she obviously didn’t want to be photographed, her lean and lithe body and symmetrical face framed by beautiful long glossy black curls drew Maura in immediately. When she heard the growl from behind her she dropped the already ruined frame onto the ground, but kept a hold of the picture.Slowly turning around she met the beast’s face.“I thought I told you to stay out of the west wing!!!!”“Oh—uh- is-is this the west wing?” Maura badly faked ignorance and was met with another low growl.“GET OUT!”Maura isn’t ashamed to say she ran. That night Maura looked at the picture in her room and noticed a gleam on the belt of the woman [who she had presumed was the beast before— well… before.] She took out a magnifying glass from her bag and put it over the picture and gasped when she clearly saw “Boston Po—— ment”That explained why the beast had softened when Maura had mentioned the BPD.The next day at work Maura did some sleuthing and found out that the beast’s name was Detective Jane Rizzoli and that she had “disappeared” four years back. She came back to the mansion and immediately called for Korsak, as the clock was closest to the bea—— to Jane.“Korsak, I would like to have dinner with Jane this evening.”“Well, I will ask her Doctor.” His eyes widened “How do you know Jane’s name.”“I did a little sleuthing. Jane’s not the only one who’s good at solving mysteries.”Korsak left in shock and walked to Jane’s rooms.“Jane!”“What is it Korsak!?”“The good doctor would like to have dinner with you.”“Ha! Not in this lifetime.”“Jane, she knows who you are. She knows you’re a detective and she knows you work with the BPD.”“WAS. Korsak. I WAS a detective. I WORKED with the BPD. Not anymore. Now I’m this.” She spun around to the mirror on the wall but could only look for a moment.“Jane I don’t tell you to do things often, but I’m telling you, go to the dinner.”“Fine.”——If pressed Maura would admit that Jane’s table manners left much to be desired, and that her attitude was still very much surly, but dinner was actually quite pleasant. They talked of their mutual love of reading, and about Jane’s time in the BPD. Jane then lead Maura to the huge library in the mansion and laid down in front of the fireplace, lamenting over the fact that she couldn’t grasp a book in her new form- she still wouldn’t tell Maura how she got to be this way, but Maura felt like there was most likely some way to reverse it, and made it her mission to find it. In the meantime she grabbed a book and sat down next to Jane, reading aloud about the twelve dancing princesses. She awoke the next morning to a burning fire, wrapped in silky fur. She quickly left and went straight to work, even though she was nearly an hour early. She spent the day finding out more about Jane Rizzoli on her breaks. That night she had dinner again and Jane told her that she was allowed to go on with her life, that Jane trusted her but Maura found herself coming back. For the next few days that was the schedule. But soon she stopped researching Jane Rizzoli quite as much. The BPD was pretty swamped with this case. The killer was presumed to be the notorious serial killer Charles Hoyt and it was Maura’s job to prove that it wasn’t. At least that’s what her boss had told her but everything she saw was pointing in that direction.——On her way home she felt herself being followed. She started running once she got to the gate but she heard the steps behind her increase to and soon she felt a sharp pain to the back of the head and was promptly knocked out.She woke up tied to the roof of the mansion. She had been up there once before, climbing out from her balcony just to feel the wind and Jane had joined her once too. It had been so peaceful then, but now, with the pouring rain and the gag and ties and the looming figure above her it wasn’t so peaceful.Meanwhile downstairs Jane was pacing wondering why Maura hadn’t gotten home yet when she heard a scream. Her new ears told her exactly where the sound was coming from. She thundered outside and up the side of the house to the roof and found the person she least expected standing over a gagged and tied Maura. Charles Hoyt.“Hoyt!” She growled.“Ahhh, Janey, don’t you look… well I’m not gonna lie and say lovely.” The man smirked. He pulled a scalpel out from his back pocket. “Don’t mind me Jane, I’m just introducing myself to your friend here.” He pushed the scalpel into Maura’s neck and as she screamed Jane barreled Hoyt over.“What! You’re not supposed to be able to touch me, that’s what the witch said.”“NO!” Shouted Angela the teapot from the ground below. “The witch said that not until someone gave Jane her second chance could she not touch you and Maura’s given that to Jane.”It was Hoyt’s turn to growl. This time, as he charged Maura and Jane charged him he held his scalpel out and stabbed Jane in the chest before falling off the roof to a painful death.Maura finally got loose from her ties and pulled off the gag, running towards Jane. She quickly found the wound and new immediately that there was nothing she could do. She knew nothing about this hybrid’s Hot tears mixed with the rain as she grabbed Jane’s hand…Wait her hand? Maura looked down and saw that what she was holding was indeed a human hand, Jane was slowly returning to human form. Even more hot tears came streaming down Maura’s face as she scrambled to the edge of the roof and saw two young men, an older man and an older woman laying on the grass.“Hurry I need to get her down.”Frost and Frankie quickly climbed up to the roof and helped Maura get Jane down and into one of the bedrooms where Maura stitched up her fairly superficial wound, and gave her some fluids.——Four hours later when Jane woke up Maura was right there with her. She looked down at her arms and started crying as her mom, her brother and her two partners walked into the room. Maura stood cautiously in the corner before heading off into the garden. In a few short moments Jane joined her and told her the story of her transformation and that the only way that she could have been returned to her human form was if someone decided to give her a chance despite her appearance and Jane thanked her.Maura sat there in shock and then leaned in and kissed Jane squarely.“I know you just turned back into a human but once everything settles down do you think we could try this?”“Or we could try now?”
