“So, Mike, how have you been?” Brooks asked. They’d only really spoken out of necessity, and even less so since the breakup.“Been ok. How you doing?”“Fine.” Brooks said, but he knew Mike could see right through his lie.“Good.” They continued eating in a weirdly comfortable silence, until Mike finally said, “Oh fuck it. I’m just gonna say it. I miss you.”Brooks looked at Mike. “I do too. I miss the way you’d laugh at my jokes and stay up until all hours of the morning watching infomercials with me.”“But waits, there’s more.” Mike said. They both burst into laughter.Brooks suddenly had a thought. “Wait. Is this a date?”“Uh, yeah?” Mike answered. “Look, no one is the same as you. They don’t get me wanting to watch ‘The Voice’ instead of highlights, and I miss the way staring into your eyes made me feel like I was the only one who mattered. I know I was a dick and screwed things up, but I’d really like a chance to make it right. I still love you.”“I love you too.” Brooks admitted. “I’m willing to give you one more chance, but if you mess it up this time, there will be no more, got it?”“Yep.” Mike said. “God, I was such an idiot.”“I was too.” Brooks said. He paused for a minute before adding, “But I think we finally figured everything out.”“Yeah.” Mike agreed.Dinner led to going home, and, you know what going home means (sex). Brooks felt like the missing puzzle piece in his life had just been found.And they lived happily ever after.
