Take my hand, we'll finish last of all Doesn't matter to me, we won't fail, we won't fall
Jensen didn't notice he was humming until they were waiting for their room keys, Jared looking at him with some amusement. "Don't think I've heard that one before." He almost froze, then brushed it off quickly. "It's one of the new ones. Been working on it for a while now." "Got stuck?" Jared asked sympathetically. "Did you try talking to Steve?" He shook his head. "No, I- I need to do this one on my own." Jared hummed, eyeing him knowingly. Jensen was always thankful that he didn't blush easily, because he honestly didn't think he'd survive all the blood that would rush to his face with the amount of times in a single day that Jared made him feel giddy and nervous, even now after all the years they'd spent together. Jensen was a grown man, for fuck's sake, well in his middle age, not a needlessly cynical 26 year old with a crush on his co-star.
We started hand-in-hand, we'll end it too All the way to the ribbon line, as long as we stay true
The elevator was empty. Still a risk though, so Jensen contented himself with leaning against the metal wall, staring. Jared didn't return it, but there was a tiny smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Jensen started humming again, this time more consciously. The words started stringing themselves together in his head, better than they had for two weeks. Maybe he should just keep a photo of Jared open on his phone whenever he sat down to compose. They reached their floor and slipped into the first room- Jensen's. The other room, booked under Jared's name, would remain empty and unused as long as they were here. As soon as the door closed, Jared reached for him. Jensen got there first though, kissing him hard, one hand fisting into his t-shirt, the other reaching up to tug his beanie off. Jared's laugh was soft against his lips. He didn't protest, just rested his palms lightly on Jensen's sides, and Jensen took a few more seconds than he was proud of to realize Jared was less kissing him back, more just leaning against him to breathe him in. "You okay?" He asked, breaking away a little. Jared's eyes fluttered open, a little red, sunken. He looked drained and Jensen cursed himself internally. "Wanna go to bed?" Jared nodded, pressing his forehead to Jensen's shoulder. "Sorry," he mumbled. "Know it's been a while, but-" "Shh." Jensen held his face, stroking a loose strand of hair back, finger then skimming down behind his ear. As much as he missed the long hair, there was a lot to be said for the exposed side of Jared's neck, slightly overgrown stubble shadowing the angle of his jaw. "Come on. Quick shower. Then sleep." Jared was pliant as Jensen led them into the bathroom. At home, they'd be drawing a bath, but they had a panel early next morning, so Jensen carefully manhandled Jared into the shower, stripping both their clothes off.
Run with me, baby, there's no one else I'd want Run with me, so I know that I'm all you'd ever want.
The hot water washed away tension Jensen hadn't even noticed he'd had and he took advantage of his slightly rejuvenated energy to mouth lazily across Jared's collarbones. Jared shivered slightly, whispering his name, and Jensen beat back the urge to turn it into a moan by digging his teeth into the muscled shoulder. He stopped though, when his fingers brushed over a scar on Jared's hip. Jared tensed too, seeming a bit less sleepy when Jensen glanced up at him. "Just a small cut," he hurried to assure. "Either the window shards or the the edge of the seatbelt dug in a little too hard." Jensen didn't answer, staring down at the almost-invisible mark. Solid proof that he'd nearly... Jared's hand cupped his face, huge palm spanning all the way from his chin to above his hairline. "Hey," he murmured, gentle and soothing. "Quit that. I'm the overthinker here, remember?" He curled his fingers on the skin of his waist, closing his eyes to breathe. It was easier now with Jared's lips at his temple, as compared to a few weeks ago when he'd been in the hospital for a nerve-wracking four hours.
If we stumble, slow down, if we need a break
This race is only you and me; it's all okay
Just don't quit on me, don't leave me, don't sway
"I think we're done." Jared didn't wait for answer, reaching behind him to turn the shower off. "Bed, let's go." The firmness of his tone was ruined by the yawn that broke in halfway through and Jensen smiled despite himself. "Speak for yourself, you need it more than I do," he teased, mussing up Jared's hair with the towel. "And you call me the old one." "I'm young at heart, Jen," Jared protested weakly. "You're the grumpy old man." He snorted. "We'll see how old I am when I'm fucking you against that floor-to-ceiling window tomorrow." "You're on." Jared practically collapsed and Jensen rolled his eyes fondly, climbing in after him. He propped his head up on his palm, leaning over to kiss him. Jared smiled into it, a more active participant this time. But Jensen didn't let it go on, turning to skim his lips up Jared's jaw, the shell of his ear, skittering over the crows' feet that were just starting to show, up to his temple, his hairline... And another scar off-center on his forehead that Jensen had valiantly ignored all this time. This one was more visible, more obvious, and he swallowed back the residual fear that tried to swell up. He moved back down, peppering tiny kisses over Jared's eyelids, the tip of his nose, the stubble over his cheek. Jared had gone still, boneless, breathing slow and steady. Jensen stayed half-reclined, pressed up against him almost completely. He couldn't resist pressing one more kiss to his slack mouth. "Goodnight, Jay," he whispered, soundless.
Nobody loves me, baby, quite the way you do. But even if you run away from me, just know that I'd still love you.
