“Hi, I’m Jake from State Farm!” The boy, Jake , as he had so happily supplied, shoved his hand out with a slight grin on his face, “It’s great to meet your acquaintance, and like we say, like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.” When saying the well known slogan, he put a bit of a ring on it, dragging out the words as if singing them to anyone listening. The only thing though, they were being directed to one person, and one person only. Flo from Progressive. With the way her eyes scrunched up when she smiled, he couldn’t help but beam back at her with as much happiness as he could muster. With her always positive attitude, and the sure fire way she would respond to the things going on around her, Jake couldn’t figure out what there wasn’t there to like about, “Hello, Jake from State Farm ,” she quipped back, “I’m Flo, and no we will not be seeing how low we can go. Since we’re naming where we’re from, I’ll reintroduce myself actually. So hi, my name is Flo, from Progressive , which is where we like to say think easier, think Progressive . So how was it?” She asked with a cheeky grin, “Any better?” Feeling his own smirk form onto his face, Jake elicited to not say anything in response, letting his actions do all of the talking. It was a few moments of silence before the conversation picked up again, much more lively than it was initially. Talks and banter mixed between conversations of late night calls from customers along with co workers, and then all of the promos and commercials that were being made, the pair acknowledging the time, effort, and skills that were needed to complete them. Discussing what they liked and disliked about their jobs, they completely missed it when somebody new came over, completely unannounced. “What’s going on here?” Turning around to see who the newcomer was, Jake couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at seeing who it was. “Hello to you too, Jakob ,” Jake greeted with a knowing grin on his face, “good to see you making yourself useful in other aspects of the business. Especially now that you got removed from your previous position.” Scowling through the whole of what he was saying, Jakob visibly flinched back at the mention of his old position, to which Flo couldn’t help but wonder to have gotten him removed from whatever job he had been doing before. With the tension building up to the point Flo felt that she could cut it with a knife, she spoke up, trying to defuse whatever argument that was going to happen. “Hello, Jakob! I’m Flo, and it’s very nice to meet you!” With a mumble in response, she couldn’t quite catch what exactly was being said, but she did hear something about it not being right. Not wanting to be rude and ignore him, she asked him to repeat it. “I said,” Jakob started off quietly, as if unsure of himself, “that that isn’t my name. I go by Jake.” “Oh!” She said in response, almost cheering, “So there’s two Jake’s from State Farm. Isn’t that just ironic.” Babbling on, Flo missed the way that the new Jake’s expression darkened once she said how there were two of them. Not wanting to hear much else, he turned on his heel, very dramatically, and went back, hence the way he came, seething the whole way. Pausing mid sentence, Flo’s mouth gaped, opening and closing like not unlike a fish’s out of water.  “What-“ she started, wanting to ask what had happened, only for Jake- the first Jake, cut her off. “Don’t worry about it,” he said, dismissing the whole situation in a few words, “he just hasn’t liked me since I’ve gotten here. Really, there’s no need to worry. You didn’t do anything wrong,” flashing her a charming smile, he continued on, “Say, would you want to grab a coffee or something with me later?” Lifting an eyebrow, the afternoon’s earlier plight was already pushed to the back of her head. “Sure, Jake , why not? I’d love to get to know you some more.” As the two continued to talk, neither noticed the dark eyes watching on, cursing Jake From State Farm with every thought.
