“Will you still be here tomorrow?” Mia wondered, meeting her companion’s eyes. They were both seated on bar stools in a quaint bar, sipping a sweet cocktail the bartender had recommended to them. Mia’s was almost empty and she felt she ought to go to bed, but she loathed leaving the beautiful woman behind, without knowing she’d see her again.
The petite young woman smiled and nodded. “I’ll be here all week,” she promised, and Mia had never been so happy to hear those words before. She leaned forward and caught the other woman’s lips with hers. It took her only a second to respond, moving her lips in sync with Mia’s. The sweet taste of the cocktail lingered on her lips, richer in taste than it had been from the glass. Perhaps that is what the bartender had meant when he had told them it was the perfect drink for lovers. Of that Mia was convinced when she pulled back from the kiss and saw him wink at her from across the bar, fixing the same cocktail for another couple cozying up to each other. She scribbled her phone number and an address on the back of a cardboard coaster. “Then I will see you tomorrow.”She was held back by a hand on her wrist before she could make it toward the door. The chocolate-brown eyes that met hers were filled with amusement. “You know, I never did catch your name.”“Mia,” she replied, chuckling to herself. They had spent all evening talking yet never exchanged names. “My name’s Mia.” She extended a slender hand toward the other woman who was still seated. The younger woman took her hand and firmly shook it. Her handshake was surprisingly strong. “Stella Bak.”“I’ll see you tomorrow then Stella.” Mia smiled.“And every day after that until you leave,” Stella replied, leaving hardly any room for argument. Mia liked the way she spoke, so sure of herself and what she wanted, it was a trait surprising in many women her age.“And every day after that,” she agreed, leaning down to kiss Stella again, her hands cupping the younger woman’s cheeks. Stella placed her hands on Mia’s shoulder’s slightly raising from her seat to better meet the other woman. “Goodnight,” Mia murmured against Stella’s lips once they had pulled apart.“Goodnight,” Stella smiled and turned back toward her unfinished cocktail, while Mia pushed her way through the crowd toward the exit of the bar. Tomorrow would be a good day.
