You sat there watching as raindrops trickled down the glass. One chased after the other, almost as if they were racing to a nonexistent finish line. ‘If only they knew they’d be meeting their fate once they got to the end,’ you thought as you watched both drops meet the edge of your window. You continued to observe the storm in front of you, finding it fascinating how lightning can disappear almost as quickly as it came. Kind of like some of the people you’ve had the pleasure of meeting, even if they did end up abandoning you after all. Your eyes fluttered shut as the peaceful sound of patterning was soon overshadowed by the low rumble of thunder. You have always considered thunder as a pleasant sound to listen to; you believed that it was the sky’s way of showing that it was angry, that it would stop at nothing until it felt heard. And that is why you had admired Mother Nature, for expressing itself in ways that you felt you couldn’t. It wasn’t until a soft hand had intertwined with yours that you realized you had been far too lost in thought to hear the redhead enter your room. Natasha could tell something was off as soon as she shuffled into the room. Small piles of clothes, bottles, and bags scattered across the floor. You were by no means the neatest person, but she still couldn’t help but notice your room being somewhat messier than usual. Your lamps were off, making the moon that was slightly peeking through the gray clouds and nearby buildings and street lamps; your only sources of light. If that wasn’t a good enough sign, then your hunched-over body, puffy eyes, and messy hair told her everything she needed to know. “What is one thing you need right now?” Natasha’s soft, raspy voice finally broke the comfortable silence as she shifted her body to face you. You were glad she didn’t ask the one question that most seemingly only knew. Because if you were being honest with yourself, you wouldn’t have been able to answer it, not exactly knowing what it is you’re feeling right now. “A hug,” you mumbled, and before you knew it, strong arms had made their way around your body and engulfed you in a warm embrace. You clung to Natasha’s warm body, relishing in the woodsy fragrance of her signature perfume that has never failed to calm your rushing mind. It was a little overwhelming, not having felt anything other than numbness until now. You closed your eyes as Nat’s fingers traced tiny shapes on your arm with one hand and gilded her fingers through your hair, trying not to tug on any tangles with the other. Your breathing evened out, and you had begun to snore quietly. The widow knew that you hadn’t been able to sleep for a couple of days, and she was happy that you were able to get some well-deserved rest. She placed a gentle kiss on your hairline, whispering, “I will always be here for you, dorogoy(a),” before her breathing began to match yours as well.
