Mashed sweet potato with cauliflower and chickpeas for lunch and a sweet fruit puree for dessert with six flavors to choose from - watermelon, apple, peach, banana, pear, and mango.“Pick your poison, little one” I lay the assortment of small jars in front of my six month old daughter, her chubby hand instantly landing on top of the jar with the peach flavored dessert.“Peach, yet again” I snicker “You take after your papi on the fruit, mija. His favorite and go to is always a sweet peach, did you know that?”“Pa…pi” Little Y/d/n blabbers through an excited giggle as I twist open the jar with a pop.Momentary silence fills the large kitchen as I pause in place, frozen like a statue “Mija, what did you say? Did you say papi?”“Pa…pi” she repeats carefullyI set the jar down and pull out my cellphone, putting it on camera to record her first words ever spoken “One more time, sweetheart, pa…”“Pa…pi” Y/d/n enunciates “Papi” she peaks again with confidence, smiling brightly into the lens

Send.Rafael’s phone vibrates madly with a thunderous shake inside his pants pocket. He reaches in with a heavy hand and pulls out the device, green eyes staring at his wife’s name on the screen. He simpers as he opens the text message with a single tap and downloads the video, growing emotional, happy tears welling in his eyes as he watches his daughter speak for her dad in Spanish.
Y/n
Is this for real?
He clicks the send button, immediately getting a response from his wife in return confirming that, yes, the video was one-hundred percent real and not made up or doctored in any way.A single tear slides down his cheek that he does not bother to wipe away. Funny, the last time that Rafael had ever cried little Y/d/n was also the reason as it was the day when she was first born. He was terrified but ecstatic at the same time. Today, he adds the feeling of proudness on that list as he continues to watch the video over and over again, repeatedly on a loop until his battery was nearly drained and lifeless.
