The Red of Rage Into the

Work Text

Rain poured as childish voices echoed loudly through the junkyard. “Shut up! You wish you were me!”. The angered twin clutched a toy car in his hands tightly, slowly getting closer to the car breaking in half.Lake gasped slightly before rage surged through him. He lunged at his brother, making him trip and fall, the toy car then falling from his hands. Lake rushed to pick it up, checking to see if it was damaged.“H-Ow! Ow! My ankle!” Lucas writhed on the ground, whimpering and complaining about his damaged ankle, holding it tightly. Blood stained his hands, moving up his arms and legs with the rain.“Why would I care?" Lake rolled his eyes, responding with a snarky tone. He cleaned his toy car with his shirt, making it quite shiny and pleasant to look at.Lucas hissed when pressing the cut part of his leg, he wouldn’t be able to stand up or getaway. But, It would be easy to blame it on Lake. Well, he would be telling the truth, Lake did push him to the ground.Although, with rain pouring, a cut & bleeding ankle, not being able to stand up, and stuck in the middle of the road with no way for a driver to avoid him, he didn’t care.“Lake! Lake help me up.” He yelped with a distressed tone. Lake ignored his pleas, continuing to check his toy car for any bumps or scratches. Lucas realized the gravity of his situation when he heard the buzz of a car, he couldn’t see the light, so he assumed it must have been far away. He had time. Right..?“Please Lake! I’m so- I'm so so so sorry!!” Lake once again ignored his twin. Lucas felt tears twinge in his eyes, he was dead. Lucas wasn’t going to help him. He was going to die. “I know you’re lying so I help you, so then you can blame me for hurting your godforsaken ankle.” Lake started wiping dust off his clothes. He’d do anything that wasn't helping his brother right now.A white light illuminated Lucas’ body, stinging his teary eyes. He shook, the cold of the night freezing his wet shirt. He saw blurry, which he wasn’t sure was from the waterfall of tears that fell down his face. “I-I swear not! Please help me! I’m sorry! Ok, Lake?! Just- I swear It’s not a trick! Believe me!” Despair filled his tone, his voice cracked, and choked sobs left with his words. Tears covered his scratched cheeks and eyes, his nose red from the freezing cold; little snot dripped down his nose. Lucas' hurt, anguished, eyes were wide and terrified. He was almost dragging himself to his brother, the dark red of his blood staining his clothes. Lucas crawled slowly, scraping each inch of his skin, hitting his head against the ground with how dizzy he had started to feel.Lake heard the tone of his twin's voice and got quite worried; his brother was never so vulnerable. He turned around and saw a bright light filling his vision, almost covering his sobbing, writhing in pain, distressed, brother. The sound of a car got closer and closer, and Lake rushed to pick his brother up.He clutched Lucas’ hand desperately, pulling him up and crashing down with both their weight. The car passed not seconds later, sounding its horn loudly and swerving away from both kids. It drove off into the night. They had landed on top of each other, scrambled together. Lucas had his head on Lake’s shoulder, both arms wrapped around his twin’s chest, under the other’s arms. “Oh- Lucas? Are you ok?!” He grabbed Lucas and moved him so he could see his face. It was red and swollen, wet by tears. His shirt was stained red, blood-mixed rain covering it all. He spared a glance towards his brother's ankle, that had a bleeding, almost grotesque, cut.He responded with choked sobs, tears falling from his eyes. “L-Lake! I-I'm-I'm so s-sorry! I just-” He stopped before his words became incoherent mumbling and sobbing. He cried loudly into Lake’s shoulder for what could have been 1 minute or 2 hour.He finally managed to say something coherent “I thought I was going to- to die-! I- I couldn’t blame you if you didn’t save me-” “I’m your brother, I- of course I saved you.” He panted and moved them both out of the road, now able to focus solely on his Twin. "Are you okay? It looks bad.." Lake said, staring at the cut, the red of blood dripping down his leg. "I'll be fine.. just.. go." He tried to stand up, only to fall and hiss. He rubbed near his cut, thinking of what to do.Lake wrapped the other's arm around his shoulder, pulling both of them up. "Let's get out of here. I'm not looking forward to mom and dad yelling at us." They strolled away; they did forget one thing though, a shiny, almost like new, red, toy car.
