Mac threads his hands through his wet hair, rinsing out the shampoo and letting it go down the drain in a sudsy, soapy swirl. He's halfway through grabbing the conditioner when there's a knock on the bathroom door. It's only a courtesy knock as Desi enters the steam-filled bathroom. "I brought an extra towel," Desi announces as Mac runs silky conditioner into his hair. And while it seems like a nice, thoughtful thing for her to do, bringing him an extra towel, he's already got one. He recognizes the action as the question it really is. "You want to join me?" Mac asks, keeping his voice inviting, unassuming. "If you're offering." She almost sounds indifferent, but Mac can hear through the facade as the bathroom door creaks shut. People tend to think Desi's not the best at expressing her emotions—and maybe she's not—but Mac has gradually learned to recognize her little quirks, the same way she's done for him. The small tells and her subtle body language and the tone of voice she uses to convey certain things. She's not always overtly forthcoming with what she wants, no matter how much she claims she's not shy about things. But, more often than not, Mac's found that she waits to be invited as though she's waiting for permission. Like loving openly doesn't come naturally to her. He knows it's because she's lost people before. She's alluded to something of a fiance that passed, but she doesn't like to get into it. Mac doesn't make her. He's really only ever mentioned Nikki's betrayal in passing; she's never forced him to talk about that. He knows she's afraid of losing people if she gets too close. He understands. Comes from a life with a lot of loss himself, so he gets it. But they're there for each other, and it works for them. Mac's still musing on it when Desi slips into the shower with him. She gasps softly when the water hits her body. "It's cold," she says, wrapping her arms around herself, shoulders hiking up to her ears. "How are you not freezing?" Mac glances at the shower handle. "It's not that cold," he says, twisting it hotter anyway. "You just like to use boiling water to wash yourself." "I do not," she returns. The tenseness in her shoulders slowly melts away and she slides in behind Mac. Arms snake around his chest and Mac braces her grasp with his own arms. The pair sways ever so slightly as Desi settles against his body, her face pressing into the space between his neck and shoulder. Mac presses his eyes closed, contentment washing over him with the sluicing water. Fair skin flushes pink with the added warmth of the water and another body against his. If it was possible, Mac would be happy to stand there in that peaceful moment forever. Desi presses her lips against his skin, but cuts off short with a disgusted sound. "You still have conditioner all over you," she complains, sputtering and working her mouth to try and rid it of the soapy taste. Mac laughs, and it's a sound that comes from deep in his belly. "I'm so glad you think this is funny." Desi's tone is sharp, but her eyes are playful, and Mac can feel the smile tugging at her lips. "Come on, rinse all of this out already," she says, her hands trailing along his body to reach up into his hair. Her nails, blunt and dull, scratch along his scalp as she massages the conditioner out of his hair. It's all Mac can do to lean into her ministrations, comforted in the cozy warmth of the shower stall while she plays with his hair. "There," she says after a long while, startling Mac back into the present. He had started zoning out to the comforting touch. Turning to face Desi, Mac grips her hips. "Thanks," he says, leaning down for a quick kiss. Mac pulls a face. "You taste like soap." "And whose fault is that?" She asks, her arms moving up around the back of his neck. "I'm pretty sure you're the one that decided to try a mouthful of my conditioner," he teases."You're the worst." Desi goes in for another kiss which, despite his earlier comment, Mac reciprocates eagerly. Bodies move in time with the ebb and flow of the kiss. Mac's hands, never still, climb up Desi's back and tangle into her wet hair as he draws her closer. Their mouths only come apart to steal quick gasps before they're lip-locked again. When Desi kisses more forcefully, Mac allows himself to be pushed against the wall of the shower stall. The cool tile against his back contrasts with the hot water and sends goosebumps prickling along his skin. Desi's hands travel to Mac's shoulders, pressing him firmly against the slick wall. He half debates steadying them on the grab bar he installed years ago for mission injuries, but he can't bring his touch to wander away from her for even a second. "Des," Mac gasps between breaths, feeling the growing arousal amidst a rapid heartbeat and the sheer affection of having another person he trusts enough to be this close to him. "I see it." Their bodies are so close together, all Desi has to do is roll her hips, and there's the tease of the friction he wants. He grasps her hip urgently. "We don't have a condom." Her dark eyes are full of mischief. "Do you need one for me to give you a handjob?" She makes a show of rolling her hips again oh so slowly, almost tortuously. Mac lets out a breath, a moan catching the end of it in enthusiastic consent. But Desi doesn't reach for his dick yet. She lets her hands trail down his body, feeling up every bit of his chest, tracing old scars and birthmarks. Mac's head drops on her shoulder and he kisses at her neck. She eases lower and lets her fingers linger on his sides and belly for a moment; he really is too thin. When they're done here, Desi's going to make a hearty, filling soup.Desi's hands continue their journey, and when she gets low enough, she grabs a handful of tight ass first. "Des," Mac mumbles into her neck, a tinge of whining present at the pace she's chosen. She shushes him, tells him to be patient with a teasing lilt to her voice. They're not sure who slipped first. One moment, they're steady, getting handsy in the shower together, and the next they're completely off balance. Mac throws an arm around Desi's waist to keep her from falling backwards and the other hand shoots behind him to try and snag the grab bar. Desi's feet slip and crash into Mac's, knocking them both sideways. There's a loud thud where Mac cracks his head against the grab bar, and in a few seconds, they're both on the floor of the wet shower. Desi's somehow ended up on top of Mac. She blinks a moment and a laugh bubbles up. "Is your head okay?" She asks through giggles, settling into their new position. She expects him to do the same; after all, Mac's always been the master of improvising in any situation, but she frowns when he doesn't immediately reassure her. "Mac?" His face is pinched and his features have gone pale. The humor leaves Desi in a second. "Mac, are you okay?" She props herself up off of him, straddling awkwardly for a moment before she can fully get off of him. "Let me see your head." Desi cups Mac's head gently, lifting it and feeling underneath for blood. Everything is wet and hot from the shower, including his hair, but her fingers don't come away red. Mac groans when she touches an apparently tender spot. He shifts for a moment and that's when Desi realizes he's shifting the arm that didn't grab her out from underneath his back. He blinks at her and holds up the hand. The last three fingers are crooked and already look like they're swelling. "Oh, shit," Desi breathes. Those are definitely broken. "Okay, come on, let's get you to Phoenix Med." Desi turns the handle on the shower until the water stops flowing, not wanting a repeat of their earlier slip. With Mac's good arm around her shoulders, Desi helps him stand up and step out of the shower stall. She sits him down on the toilet seat and grabs a towel to drape over his waist. Desi grabs herself a towel, wraps herself up, and then notices that goosebumps have broken out all along Mac's skin. She grabs another towel to drape over his shoulders. "Stay here, I'm going to call and tell them we're coming." Mac nods. "Okay." Desi doesn't know whether to be worried Mac's accepting medical attention, or glad that he knows better than to mess around with broken fingers. His hands are valuable, they can't afford to let them heal wrong. A quick phone call, the long, painful process of helping Mac get his clothes on with a broken hand, and soon the pair are in the car. When they get to Phoenix Med, the medical staff is waiting for them. They're still practically dripping wet by the time they get Mac settled in an examination room. They let Desi come back too, they know better than to argue. "How did this happen?" The nurse treating Mac's hand asks. "I uh..." Mac trails off for a moment, looking flustered. "I fell in the shower." The nurse gives him a look. It's not like she doesn't believe him; it's totally possible that Mac broke a few fingers falling in the shower, but she can tell it's not the whole story. "And then," Desi pipes up with about as much sheepishness, "I fell on top of him." The nurse regards Desi, the way the both of them are soaked and faintly pink, and nods. She gets the picture.
