“Cara mia,” Hans said as his lips hovered over his wife’s chilly outstretched hand. He wrapped his hand around her delicate fingers and pressed a firm and wanton kiss to the back of her hand.“Mon cher,” she answered with an otherworldly air, aloof to her husband’s trail of tiny kisses tracing the shimmery black netting of her sleeve to her bare shoulder, smooth as silk. She turned her head to the side, granting him the privilege of canvassing her collarbone, neck, and jawline. One hand wandered to her waist while the other caressed her shoulder, as his kisses slowed across her open back above her cape, tickling her skin with warm breaths and whiskers she worked hard to resist. Hans cherished every hard-won rise he got out of his ice queen. It was always more than worth the effort. He reached a hand to stroke her always immaculate braid intentionally draped in front of her shoulder, but snapped it back after a sharp turn of her head. She would only let her touch it when she purred in contentment in his arms. But the rich darkness of it taunted him. It was blacker than a raven’s feather, and it was one of the first things he ever noticed about her. As consolation, she allowed him to shower kisses along her other arm, and when he got to her hand, he lifted it to spin her around fast enough for her sheer cape, sparkling silver on black like the night sky, to whip sharply against his waist over and over, until he lowered her low over his knee, followed by a little too much affection for his daughter’s comfort.Elsa giggled, and placed a treasured kiss on Hans’ cheek, leaving behind a faint trace of reddish-purple lipstick so dark it was almost black. It was Hans’ favorite, though he never mentioned it to her.“Querida,” he said softly, not letting go of her hand. He pulled her into a tight embrace, and though she didn’t struggle, it was more than what she was comfortable with.He licked her neck, and scraped his teeth against it. Then he whispered, “You don’t need to go. All that you need is right here.”Elsa lifted a fingernail to his cheek before looking him in the eye, and saying, “Oh, Hans, there's no need to worry. I’m just going to be ruling over a pack of miscreants. Practice for the world," she said facetiously. "And then I’ll come right back home to you.”He rested his hand on the side of her neck, and stroked possessively beneath her unwavering chin. “The universe ," he corrected. "But I need you. Here with me.”Elsa leaned into his hand until her forehead met his. Then, with a final kiss on his lips, she whined, “ I love you ,” and pushed away from his chest. She flung her cape behind her and he watched her hips sway, waiting for her to turn around and blow him a kiss, but she slammed the door instead. Elsa’s favor wasn’t easily won. She made him work for it since the day they met, and every day since.
They first met at his Mamushka ceremony, and Hans couldn’t take his eyes off of her graceful yet commanding presence. In fact, he was so stunned by her that he would have fumbled the whole thing if his brother Olaf hadn't been there to coach him. He ended up giving her the performance of his life, though it wasn’t enough to impress her. His “disingenuous” and “over-the-top” charm and the boxy frame he hadn’t quite grown into weren’t enough to make up for his “barely adequate” dancing. He even told her about his plans to take over the nearby town, but she said it was a “lowly goal” and scoffed at the idea that he could make her his first lady. She even left him pinned against a wall with hundreds of sharp ice crystals when he wouldn’t leave her alone.
Utterly besotted from her brutal rejection, Hans vowed to himself and every Addams in the family cemetery (dead and alive) that he would become worthy of Elsa’s love. So over the next four years, he worked hard to become something she’d admire, and more importantly desire. He practiced the Mamushka every day, strengthened his body into a well-cut machine, and honed his now signature charm with every man, woman, and monster he came into contact with. And, most importantly, he abandoned his feeble plans to take over the town in favor of world domination. Elsa was born to be queen by birthright, and Hans couldn't believe he presented her with "First Lady" as his offering.
He wrote her love letter after unanswered love letter begging her to be the queen by his side, until she finally asked him to visit her so she could reevaluate him. She lived at the top of a beautiful castle made of translucent lines and sharp angles, and Hans and Olaf were struck by its sublime loneliness. She was an outcast in her town for her taste of the macabre and proclivities to the "dark" arts. She would have been content living at the top of her ice palace, all alone as the last surviving member of the once great Arendellian royal family forever, but his promise tempted her. The promise of a life lived freely, among like-minded people who would appreciate her unique talents. In the end, it was his dedication to her, his growth as an earnest, ardent admirer, that lured her down from her hilltop.
He came ready to fight the townspeople for her honor, knowing they wouldn’t let her into the town so easily. Her very presence, even if for a few moments, drove them to homicide. Hans thrived on such conflict, and he was eager to prove himself to his beloved Elsa. He drew his practiced, though battle-shy, sword, as did his brother Olaf and his right-hand hand, Weasel. Sven, his reindeer butler-turned-body guard (when needed), and his menacing antlers, stood ready for a quick escape and a brutal bucking if need be.
It was exactly the kind of party Hans and Olaf were expecting. “Olaf, old boy, this is the best bachelor party I could ever imagine!”
Then his beloved started down the long stairway to the center of town, and all fighting stopped for a moment to watch this most beautiful creature descend to the mortal realm. The peace didn’t last long, though, and the horde of pedants rushed to the stairs with their torches and pitchforks to keep Elsa from what Hans believed to be true happiness in his loving arms.
“Well, how far are you willing to go for her?” asked Olaf.
Without hesitation, but with a fierce and protective look in his eyes never leaving her body, Hans said resolutely, “I would die for her.”
Olaf giggled, and said, “Well, today just might be your lucky day!” And the two brothers forged on.
Before they could reach the mob, though, Elsa had cleared a bubble around herself to reveal her extraordinary magical powers Hans had heard legends about as a young child even. First, it was a sphere of fire, which burnt the whiskers of those closest to her. Then, she put out the fire with a wave of water from the nearby well, soaking even more townspeople.
“Say, that’s some bride you got there, Hans,” Olaf whispered with a nudge of his elbow.
Hans smiled maniacally, “Is she not the most magnificent creature you’ve ever laid eyes on?”
Olaf chuckled, and said with a slap on the back that caused Hans to cough, “Well, she’s not my type, but good for you!”
But Elsa wasn’t finished. Next, she dried the townsfolk off with a harsh breeze that knocked most of them down. Then, she turned the stone stairs into a giant rock monster which followed behind her, ready for her orders.
The townsfolk fled, and Olaf and Weasel bemoaned not being able to take any action, though Hans didn’t regret it for a second.
He changed his vows after witnessing Elsa’s display from “I want you to be my queen when I am king,” to “you are my queen and I want to be your king."
And since that day he’d worked diligently to expand his plans to make Elsa queen of the universe.Which was why he was so shocked when she told him she had accepted a position at the local high school teaching science. It was such a menial position for someone so talented. More than that, he couldn’t bear to be apart from her for so long. It was bad enough that Anna had been venturing into town, despite his express forbidding and disapproval. Her hair had turned white at first, but now it was some ghastly shade of pinkish-red, but for one last streak of white holding strong. It would have been adorable if her pigtail braids were still as black as her mother’s otherwise. He blamed the whole thing on that flax-haired boy named Kristoff that delivered their ice blocks on Saturdays. On top of Anna’s teenage rebellion, Sven had taken a liking to the boy, and he often failed to alert Hans when Anna sat on a tree branch with him, no longer lonely, and holding his hand. The best he could do was to pretend like nothing had changed. Hans hated the idea of Anna going to school among the riff-raff, but Elsa had a way of convincing him like no one else could. He ruled the household with an iron fist, the same way he’d rule the universe one day. That is, until Elsa contradicted him, which was also the same way she would rule the universe. There wasn’t anyone else alive that could sway his opinion, and she did it so effortlessly. Sometimes it was a flicker of disapproval in her eyes, a languid kiss stolen in a darkened corner, or a whisper in his ear. Each a promise waiting for him when he came around. She fed his soul, and he breathed her skin.He put his foot down when Anna asked to go to Kristoff’s school, though, and Elsa broke the ice he stood on. She threatened him with a wall of ice daggers, a challenge which he ordinarily would have met with his blade, and they would have waged a loving war against each other until he sliced off her clothes and they’d ravage each other. But she didn’t give him time to fetch his sword, and these icicles were razor thin, and too sharp to be sexy. They would have easily maimed him to a point that Elsa might no longer want him out of hideousness, so he relented.“Fine. Anna can go to that school, with all the weird kids and that cretin she seems to like so much..." He pinched the bridge of his nose, and continued, "Though I have no idea why. What does she even see in him? He’s ill-mannered and smelly, and I’m convinced he’s as dull as one of Grandmama’s cauldrons.”“Thank you, Father,” Anna said sweetly, as though it were his choice, and kissed his cheek, leaving him a bit befuddled by the attention. He thought the era of her need for his approval had long since passed, and the display of affection puffed up his confidence after his wife had just cut him down. That was the beginning of the end of Hans’ way of life. Because Elsa, shy but brilliant, was pursuing a life away from him. On the one hand, he would have more time to pursue his own interests, and the opportunity to prove to her how desirable he still was. On the other hand, he felt her slipping away, like the moon behind the sun of a lunar eclipse, and the thought of losing her, along with his plans for their dominion, was more than he could bear. Without her, his plans meant nothing.Hans’ love was more powerful than any force Elsa had ever experienced, but it had a dark side that festered like a cancer growing between them. Though she forgot when they were carnally entwined or ice skating together as though they were one person, she felt it the moment her skin turned cool after his burning touch. There were times when Elsa enjoyed being smothered, doted on, exalted even, by her husband. She felt special and compelling, and she reveled in his love for her as she was, powerful on her own. His eternal gratitude that she let him be in the same room as her, much less her bed, was a far cry from the cocky and entitled brat that made her weak in the knees at his wretched Mamushka. At 16, he was just a pup that needed to be trained, and she wouldn’t let him inside until he was fully housebroken. And even then the closest she’d let him get was to hop in a circle before her, then sit and beg for a treat. It was hard work ensuring his obedience, though. He would chew on a bone all day long if she asked him to, and no matter how tirelessly he worked to please her, no matter how much he did, she couldn’t show more than just a modicum of approval. She couldn’t put herself on his level for even a moment, because if she did, everything they had built together would crumble. Being constantly turned on by the finest specimen of a man she’d ever known, but unable to act on, or even express, her desires for him left her senses dulled and exhausted from over-stimulation.He had proved his willingness to defend her against anyone who would offer her even a cross word, even though she didn’t need him to. But she allowed it because she loved watching him bear his teeth all the same. At some point, though, she became the bone he was protecting rather than his powerful and in-control wife giving him a treat. She started to feel more like his plaything, more like she remained aloof at his command rather than the arbiter of his pleasure. He kept her closer than his own hide, though she never felt close enough to him. She felt buried by him, and she lost sight of herself. So Elsa relished the few hours she spent away from the Addams’ estate to visit the school Anna would be attending. She toured a classroom with Anna's new principal, and found joy in the wonder of the students’ eyes as they expanded their minds. She had spent much more time ensuring her synapses were firing than her dear husband did, yet she rarely had the opportunity to stretch them out.“We’re looking for a new science teacher,” the principal said. “Oh?” Elsa asked, concerned that Wednesday might not be quite as suitably educated as she had hoped.“But we could use a substitute until we find someone suitable… Would you be interested?”Elsa’s eyebrows lifted, and her blood pumped ferociously at the prospect of using her talents in a new way. “I suppose I could give it a try. Though, perhaps you might consider me as a candidate in earnest?” she asked coolly. She shook her head at her husband’s too-charming demeanor that had rubbed off on her. And the principal agreed to consider it.Elsa and Anna headed to the school the next day, and they were joined by Kristoff almost as soon as they left the house. He carried Anna’s books for her, and Elsa allowed them to separate from her once they got far enough away from the house. She took in the cool air, and practiced creating some of her lessons with examples in ice. Then she exploded ice shards all around her before melting them into tiny snowflakes which landed on her hair, face, and dress. She felt so light being away from Hans for just a short amount of time that she even toyed with the idea of leaving him. But where would she go? Her old palace on the hill was still there, and unoccupied. She had covered the whole building with ice, and she was sure it hadn’t melted. She played with her braid as she daydreamed, and held it up in front of her so she could admire the color, and her mouth gaped at the black turning gray. Suddenly, her freedom didn’t seem so important. But she refused to cower out of vanity, so she continued. And the day was so much less fulfilling than she expected. The students were much more poorly behaved than the principal had warned that they’d be. Elsa had assumed it would be different for her, that they’d sit at rapt attention when she spoke, and lower their eyes in deference when they addressed her. It was a shock that the long arm of her husband’s reach hadn’t instructed these students to worship her as he did. What’s worse was that she made the mistake of using her magic to teach the students. Then their inattention turned to derision, and complaints. It was more the walk to and from the school that invigorated her soul in the way she had hoped it would be. The closer she got to home, though, the more she felt weighed down, bound by obligation more than duty. The cool touch of air against her cheek like satin beckoned her, the promise of Hans’ kisses all over her body.Elsa lifted her braid, hoping it had changed back to black, but she was horrified that her hair had turned completely white by the time she got home. And what terrified her more than anything was what her dear husband would think. And she realized how much she craved her husband’s lustful thirst and violent caresses, and she found herself deeply conflicted and confused between her need to be free and to be trapped by his love. But when her eyes met his from across the room, she didn’t need him to say cara mia.She felt the truth of his affections, and that was all that mattered in the moment. She just knew. His eyes followed her as she walked up the stairs, his whole head turning to accommodate her every movement. And moments after she had shed her dress and undone her braid, he came up behind her and seared onto the available side of her neck, “You’re so beautiful…”And after they finished showing each other how much they missed each other, she laid her head on his arm, and let him stroke her hair.“I like it like this,” he said with a lingering kiss on her cheek, too sensual for having spent the last two hours and every last fiber of his energy worshiping her body. “I didn’t get a chance to show you before." He laid a slobbery line of kisses from her chin to her chest before simpering, "There’s just so much of you to appreciate.”“Hans,” she said, gently moving his chin away from her breasts. Elsa still needed proof that this was all she needed, though. “I’m going back tomorrow.”He froze, and she cradled his head against her chest and raked her fingers through his sideburns. "Querida," he pleaded.“The longer I’m away from you, the more you suffer.”Hans slipped his hand to her nape, drawing her lips closer to capture them. Instead, she climbed on top of him and took him the way he wanted her to, with him completely at her mercy. The next few weeks had been the same. Elsa went to school, Hans plotted universal domination with Weasel, and Hans and Elsa came together, each moths drawn to the other’s flames in different ways, lost in each other’s bodies and the annals of time.Soon, Anna had started to incorporate green into her attire. A dark green and black striped skirt. It was subtle, but it was enough for Hans to raise an eyebrow, though he suppressed his admonishments at Elsa’s admonishing tuts. “It’s just a bit of teenage rebellion,” she said, playfully tugging at his hair from behind him, and leaned over the top of his head for a kiss.“Elsa,” he pleaded, and pulled her to his lap. He breathed onto her neck, “Don’t forget what’s waiting for you when you come home today.”Elsa walked to school with a smile on her face. Her intense, brooding husband spent his days on political intrigue, gaining alliances, writing manifestos, and flexing his intellect, while she spent her days in easy freedom, combing through nature on her way to and from school, where she faced students that were gradually bending to her will, though not as easily as she was used to. When she got home, her husband reminded her why she always returned to him. One day, she got fed up with the students and quit. And instead of going home to spend the entire day in bed with Hans, she walked the perimeter of the town and through some of the surrounding forests. On her way back, she came upon a menswear store she hadn't ever noticed before. There on display in the shop window was a stunning cravat she had to see her husband wear.Hans paced in front of the fireplace, wearing the already singed carpet, while Weasel followed.“She’s never been this late before,” he both spat and muttered.“I’m sure she’s fine,” Olaf said, mocking Hans’ pain.“And if she isn’t?” he asked, so upset that his hair flopped as he spoke.Olaf shifted side to side on his feet, and suggested, “Well, if you miss her so much, why don’t you go get her? Like last time! Ooh! I'll get my sword!"Hans stopped, turned sharply, and snapped the hard heels of his stiff, black leather loafers together. He held a finger and thumb to his face and squinted his eyes.“Brother? So... no sword then?” Olaf asked after several moments of silence before dropping the sword he wasn't meant to have grabbed in a loud clash. Weasel tugged at the cuff of Hans' pant leg and spun around in circles to suggest action.Hans walked out of the room without another word, and Sven waited dutifully at the front door with his coat hanging on his antlers. He walked briskly, at first so focused on reuniting with Elsa that he didn’t even notice the haunting melody coming from the Addams family cemetery.A lacy sheen of bright pinkish purple immediately caught his eye, and he walked towards it.He was mesmerized by the brightness, his pupils dilated uncomfortably while he took in all the light reflected against the gray background.Elsa turned, her bright cape twisted with her body, still covered in satiny black. Her white braid shone silver in the fading sunlight, and he wondered how he thought her raven’s hair could be unmatched. He picked up his pace and ran to her. Her melody haunted each step, until finally it vibrated into his mouth, wet with her sweet poison.“Mi vida ,” he whispered over and over between fervent kisses everywhere her skin was exposed. He was so hungry for her that he couldn’t wait for the bedroom. But she pushed his shoulder until he fell back to a thick column and he slid to the ground. She crouched in front of him, and lifted his chin with her finger. “Don’t be hasty, Hans," she tutted. "I got you a gift.”Hans couldn’t help the smile that turned into a chuckle. “A gift?” She untied his black bow tie as slowly as she could, then flung it to the ground. She held the new article for his inspection, and he looked from it to her quizzically. He took her hand, new cravat cradled in her fingers, to his cheek. And he rolled his face into the soft fabric of the love gesture.“Cara mia ,” he said, and searched her eyes for meaning. "Is that what I think it is?"She pulled her hand away and lovingly knotted the new cravat around his neck. She wiggled her finger beneath it to make sure he had enough room to breathe, as though she didn't want him to choke on his new collar.Hans bent forward on his knees and looked up to Elsa smiling in amusement, as she started to walk away. But he followed her, never releasing his grip on her cape, and she slowed to let him stand.“What color is this?” he asked while tugging at her cape. Then he lifted his fingers to her hand to admire the polish on her nails, which had never been anything but black until now, and then her lips, brighter and more vibrant than he’d ever seen them, swallowed the tip of his finger before."I hate teaching," she said plainly, while Hans grinned smugly. "The students are atrocious and disrespectful. They're crass and ignorant. So I quit."Hans attempted to comfort her, but he could see it wasn't pity she wanted from him. He didn't even try to hide the shine in his eyes from her.She bent down to retrieve the black bow tie, and twisted it suggestively around her fingers. "I know you're used to wearing black. But as of right now, I think it's time for a little change."Hans took in Elsa's pale white skin and hair, her rich, black gown, and bright pinkish-purple cape, nails, and lips, and then lowered his head to see just a hint of his matching cravat."Elsa?" he asked, barely able to contain his happiness. "What color is this?"She turned her head back towards him and offered a piteous look because she didn't think he'd recognize the official color of the Arendelle royal family of old.“It's magenta. And it's my favorite color.”So he knelt before her, his lips coated her beautiful fingers, hands, and wrists with adoration until she shook him off. Then he straightened his new cravat, and, with a satisfied smirk, he said, "Mine, too."Elsa held her hand to her mouth in surprise, but Hans wasn't surprised at all. He had been waiting for this day since before they even met.
