Work Text
The house was unusually quiet, Yuya and Yugo must not have been awake yet. It was Christmas eve and all of the family were home, so they must’ve wanted to sleep in late for once and not cause a total ruckus so early in the morning. Yuri was thankful for that as he sleepily rubbed his eyes and quietly walked through the house and towards the kitchen, stopping in his track to kneel down and pet both En and Core.As he waltzed into the kitchen, he noticed even his parents weren’t awake yet; usually his mother, Yoko was up making breakfast for her rambunctious boys. But it was fine she was sleeping in, Yuri liked to make food and tea himself. Bonus, none of his brothers were awake to bother him while he worked on his craft. Making tea was something soothing to him, if he was going to be up this early, Yuri was going to take advantage of it and prepare some refreshing peppermint tea for the festive day.Yuri was smiling to himself as he gathered what he needed. Going through the cabinets for his freshly grown mint leaves from the garden, the tea kettle, and all of the families mugs. With an elegant flourish, he filled the tea kettle with water and turned on the stoves flame to let the water heat up.With the water heating up, Yuri took the time to glance over at all of the different mugs lining the countertop. Each mug very different and unique to his brothers, he remembered when they all made them together.Yuya’s mug was decorated with his name neatly written in red and green, he also painted one of his favorite hippo’s from his deck. It was so very Yuya.Yuri then glanced to Yuto’s mug, simple and just painted Purple with his name written in black paint, and that was it. It was rather plain but that was Yuto’s style. Then there was Yugo’s “masterpiece” as his brother would say, but Yuri thought that his mug was an absolute eye-sore of a creation. It was a good thing all they did was paint the mug, if they had to make the ceramic themselves, it probably would’ve been misshapen. Yugo’s mug was colorful to say the least, it was yellow and smothered in many complimentary colors and a weird Rocketship d-wheel monstrosity, with his name bold and messily written.Yuri grimaced to himself as he stared at Yugo’s mug before then looking at his own proudly, it was a pretty pink mug adorned with elegant purple flower petals. He wrote his name neatly and pretty, he almost hated having it sit next to Yugo’s horrid creating. But, it was Christmas eve, he’ll be nice and not complain too much about it.The tea kettle whistled and brought Yuri out of his thoughts, with a tender smile he opened his glass jar of his personal tea blend and spooned in enough in each infuser he placed in each mug. Yuri loved this part of tea making, swirling in the hot water over the leaves and letting the enchanting aroma waft through the air. He was in his happy place and smiled and hummed to himself.Yuri was so concentrated, he didn’t even hear the quiet footsteps entering the kitchen.“Its unsettling when you smile, are you poisoning us so early in the morning?” came the deep voice that made Yuri look up after he finished pouring the water in the last mug.An unlikely brother joining him so early in the morning.Yuri frowned at Yuto. Who usually was the last to wake up out of the four of them, but was now standing on the other side of the counter and skeptically looking at the tea.“Shut up. If I was going to poison any of you, I wouldn’t ruin my tea leaves for it.” Yuri spoke in a haughty voice, frowning across the counter at his older twin. “What are you doing up so early anyway? Its rare to see you up when you don’t need to be.”Yuto yawned, as if still very tired. Yuri noticed the sleepiness still on his brothers face, and his hair which was usually tall and neat was very messy and all over the place.“I don’t know, just couldn’t sleep in today.” Yuto replied simply and sat down in one of the chairs around the countertop table. “the tea smells good like always.”Yuri smiled proudly and carefully handed Yuto his mug, the tea was still steeping and Yuto just placed it back down with a polite smile to let it finish.“Of course it is, everything I do is perfect.” Yuri proudly boasted.Yuto didn’t respond, he just quietly chuckled and propped his elbow on the counter and placed his chin in his hand.A comfortable quiet surrounded the twins for only a few seconds more until boisterous laughter rang down from the hallway. The two laughs belonging to a certain two headaches who are full of too much energy so early.“Good morning!!!!” rang loud and simultaneous voices, as if they practiced and planned the obnoxious greeting.Yuya and Yugo were both standing together and grinning with matching faces at the countertop now.“Ugh.” Yuri pouted as he looked at both his brothers who’s curious eyes stared at the tea.Yugo was leaning across the counter and sniffing at the minty scent wafting out of his mug like some kind of dog, but then he looked upset when he stared at Yuri.“What kind of response is that?” Yugo asked much too loudly as he met Yuri’s eyes.Yuri placed a hand flat on Yugo’s face and pushed it away from the mug.“Stop breathing on the tea with your stinky morning breath, you’re gonna ruin it.”“You’re so rude!” Yugo basically growled.Yuri just smiled and was going to respond, but he stopped short at the sound of a laugh. A sweet laugh like a Christmas bell ringing. Yuri glanced at the source of the laugh. It was Yuya’s laugh, the oldest of the four twins. No matter what, Yuya was always able to smile and enjoy himself. Even when his brothers were all bickering like they so often do, Yuya was always there to solve the situation with warmth and smiles.“Guys, lets not argue this morning. Its Christmas!” Yuya said spoke with joy as he sat down in one of the chairs next to Yuto.Yuto who was sitting quietly with his eyes closed and his hands around the warm mug was smiling at the bickering.“Technically, its only Christmas eve.” Yuto spoke in a calm matter of a fact voice.“Same thing! But whatever, im gonna let this jerk ruin my good mood.” Yugo’s mood changed quickly as he smiled wide and moved around the counter to stand next to Yuri and through an arm around his brothers shoulder.Yuri pouted at Yugo and pushed his brother away.“Calling me a jerk even after I so nicely got up and made tea for you, im hurt.” Yuri faked hurt feelings, with his hand over his heart as he sat down at the counter.“Whatever…thank you, I guess.” Yugo muttered, pulling his gaudy mug towards him and inhaled the minty aroma with a smile.Yuya was the first of the brothers to take a sip of the tea, with a loud and dramatic sip and released an exaggerated ‘ah!’ his smile could light up the whole room like a Christmas tree.“Its delicious! Thank you, Yuri!” Yuya mused happily. It was Yuto who was second to take a sip, he held the mug with both hands and took a small quiet sip and smiled.“I agree. It has the perfect aroma and taste.” Such an elegant and kind response from Yuto, as expected of his second oldest twin.It was Yugo’s turn, as expected he had to be as annoying as possible when taking a sip; his slurp was louder and more exaggerated than Yuya’s. Yuri’s eyebrows furrowed at the lack of class his brother had when it came to a nice cup of tea.Yuri held his tongue at any kind of insult, instead he watched Yugo and waited for any kind of praise and attention he was craving. Yugo held his mug in his hand and closed his eyes, ‘hmm-ing and humming’ in thought. He even annoyingly took another big sip. There was no savoring anything with Yugo, Yuri really hated that.“Do you like it or not?” Yuri asked impatiently.Yugo met Yuri’s inquisitive gaze and smiled.“Its not bad.” Yugo said simply and placed his mug down on the counter.Yuri made pouted grumpily, that bastard really liked to get his nerves. Yugo knew that too because he was looking at Yuri was a satisfied grin. The twins were staring at eachother dangerously.“Yuri! That’s just Yugo’s way of saying its delicious, he just doesn’t want to come right out and say it!” Yuya chimed in with a radiant smile.“Huh?! No way! I mean, its good…but! Ive had better tea!” Yugo stuttered over his words, practically yelling and his cheeks were red like he was embarrassed.Yuto laughed quietly behind his mug.“That means you like it.” Yuto said with a smile.“Oh~” Yuri made a sound of amusement, this time he leaned close to Yugo and got into his personal space with a smile. “Its okay to be honest you know, after all…I worked hard preparing this tea.”“Whatever, it was good…I guess.” Yugo huffed and this time he pushed Yuri away. “Now stop looking at me with that creepy smile.”“You’re so cute when you can’t admit your honest feelings, Yugo~” Yuri purred like a dangerous predator. He felt so proud of himself, he liked when he could get on his brothers nerves like this. Yugo was so stubborn, it was funny.
Just the look on his face told Yuri everything he wanted, plus Yugo downed the tea down faster than any of his brothers so there’s no way he could lie about hating it.~ ~Silence had fallen among the four brothers, the only sound being quiet sips of tea and Yuri brewing a whole pot of fresh tea that will be steeped and ready by the time their parents would awake. Until the sound of grumbling stomachs echoed between the boys, at the same time they all laughed and agreed to also prepare breakfast.Pancakes, waffles, eggs, fresh fruit that Yuto and Yuya cut themselves. A whole delicious spread of yummy food each prepared by the boys. Yuri and Yugo worked together to make the pancakes and waffles, Yuri had to take over on the eggs because Yugo wasn’t being gentle enough rolling the omelets.By the time they were finished making the food, their parents; Yusho and Yoko had woken up and joined their sons. The family ate their delicious Christmas breakfast with laughs and smiles, Yuya and Yugo had matching smiles on their faces at their dads proud praise at how good the food was. Yoko patted Yuri’s head and told him how amazing the tea was, Yuri was so happy to be given such compliments from his mom. Yoko also patted Yuto’s head and thanked him for such perfect cut fruit, Yuto pouted and sunk into his chair in embarrassment, which made him look so cute with his wild bedhead. There was never a dull day in the Sakaki household, Yuri glanced around at his brothers and parents and smiled to himself. He was so happy and thankful, it was strange to be feeling such warmth; there were times when Yuri felt like he didn’t deserve it. But those thoughts were squashed when he felt Yuya’s hand on his shoulder, his older twin was smiling sweetly at him. Another hand touched his shoulder, it was Yugo’s. He was smiling at him too, as much as they bickered; he was probably the twin he adored the most. Not that he’d ever admit such a thing though, but seeing him smiling at him at that moment made his worries disappear. Yuto across from joined in the brotherly moment with a simple smile and a nod. It was like the “twin telepathy” thing people talk about is real, the four of them all had a special way of communicating and understanding.Yuri closed his eyes and smiled, this Christmas was a blessing with his family. He was glad to have gotten up that morning, his heart now felt warmer than any tea he could possibly brew.~ ~
BONUS
After breakfast, the brothers had moved to the living room and were lounging on their respective bean bag chairs. They were fully and happy, enjoying the calm morning. That is until Yugo started to loudly whine about now being bored, he couldn’t sit there quietly for too long. Yuya, much like Yugo also started to feel the same way; those two were so similar and full of energy. Possibly too much energy. Yuri just wanted to sit there and relax, Yuto was feeling the same way while he was curled up in his bean bag chair like a lazy cat.Yugo had other ideas as he listed off ideas with Yuya about what they could do. Snowball fight and snowmen building were out of the question, those were Yuya’s ideas but Yugo shot them down because it was too cold. Yugo could’ve gone for riding their d-wheels or roller blading, but the ground was still icy. So that was out of the question. Yuto was basically ignoring his brothers and their ridiculous ideas, Yuri was listening but wanted to do none of the ideas sounded fun to him.But then he had a good idea, Yuri smiled evilly to himself and sat up to meet his brothers gazes.“I have an idea.” Yuri chimed.“That’s never a good thing.” Yugo commented with a furrowed eyebrow.Yugo’s comment only made Yuri giggle.“What’s your idea?” Yuya asked in curiosity.“Can’t be any worse than what Yuya and Yugo suggested.” Yuto added to the conversation.Yuri kept smiling deviously and crossed his leg over the other like a powerful king expressing power to the commoners he commanded.“Lets duel~” Yuri suggested in a sing song tone, a dangerous aura radiating from him at wanted some fun competition with his brothers. “A battle royal to be exact. Lets make things exciting.”The boys reacted exactly how Yuri expected, competition burned in Yugo and Yuto’s eyes and Yuya was smiling in excitement and blissfully unaware at the danger now imposed on this snow Christmas eve morning.Yugo stood up fast with clenched fists from his seat and pointed directly at Yuri.“You’re on you smirking bastard, im gonna beat you up!” Yugo declared loudly.Yuri smirked happily.“Were dueling, not fighting.” Yuya commented and pulled on Yugo’s pajama pant leg so he’d relax.“Yugo, you’re brave challenging Yuri directly. Considering he’s beating you a bunch of times in a row.” Yuto spoke dryly.Yuto’s words were harsh, and it made Yuri burst out laughing. Now Yugo was really worked up and pointing at Yuto challengingly.“Shut up, I’ll beat you too!” Yugo declared with no thoughts or fear.Yuya was watching from his seat at all his younger brothers bickering with eachother, they haven’t even begun to duel and they were all full of energy and ready to beat the other.Yuri glanced at Yuya with a much gentler smile.“What’s the matter, Yuya? Scared?” Yuri teased to spark some fun out of his older twin.Yuya shook his head and smiled happily.“No way! You guys better watch out, or I’ll just beat you all!” Yuya mused warmly.Just like that, the four brothers were now enjoying a battle royal style duel. Which would become a tradition between them on Christmas eve. Lots of smiles and laughter filled the room, no matter how much the four of them bickered, they were brothers, and they had a special connection. This holiday, Yuri really understood how much these idiots really meant to him.
