The blood flowed through her as she fed on the neck of an unfortunate drunk student that she pulled from the dance floor. It was fucking delicious how human blood became tastier and tastier as Caroline kept on ignoring those silent little voices that used to hammer in her mind: yelling, asking for her to remember and be nice and cool. Be the hero.Fuck that. After her mother died, nothing looked the same. All of the unresolved buried problems she'd been avoiding saw the crack wide open and went flying out to the surface callously. She tried to fight it, but the phrases that seemed to follow her everywhere - the "It's going to be okay", "I'm so sorry for your loss", "You're going to get through this" - were filled with void, the sad expression on the people's faces infuriated her, she wanted to punch them off of them and scream:NO, IT'S NOT!Because it wasn't. But it seemed like no one saw that. Not even Elena. What is the chance that two smoking-hot brothers appeared out of the blue and miraculously fell in love with her to conveniently help her cope with the death of her mother? Yeah. None. So, as time flew by, Caroline slowly decided to stop caring; everything led to suffering and turmoil anyway... Why care if all winds up in pain? Now, there was no pain, no tears, no wish to rip her own heart anytime moments called out to poisoned memories that flooded her brain in excruciating pain. Therefore, she felt incredibly peaceful to do any barbaric act that crossed her mind. It was so easy.Just like flipping a switch.On. Off. On. Off. She gently placed the body on the floor, arranging its messy hair."Don't worry, darling," Caroline cooed, swiping the blood off of his neck with a clean tissue that fell from the one shelf behind them. Gotta leave no trace behind. "You'll wake up soon." She poked the tip of her finger with her fang and inserted it into his mouth. She finally stood up and, without looking behind, opened the door and left. Nobody would suspect a thing, at the end of the night, he would be just a random drunk who passed out in the closet. She sucked just the right amount of blood so that she'd get fed up without the risk of the human dying after.Always the same ritual: pick a victim, lure them out to a secluded area, suck the blood, and not abuse. Simple and delicious every. single. time. And better, no remorse. Just amazing.Sweat and alcohol scented the glitching lights of the nightclub, the perfect place for a feast. As she strutted out of the place, pushing stupid men out of her way, her heels clicked against the concrete, being the only thing other than screams and the fading music from the club behind her. However, suddenly, a strong scent of fresh blood stopped her in her tracks. Like a wild animal, she deviated towards the alley from where the smell came. Her steps turned silent, curiosity growing as she got closer."Hello?" She smiled, not bothering to hide her psychotic tone. "Anybody there?"Her hearing caught wet noises coming from behind the wall that turned for another road. No heartbeat except for the struggling one of the victims."Oh, looks like we have another bloodsucking demon around here!" Her voice bounced between the walls with no need to scream."Oh, sweetheart, you do not know what a demon looks like.'' The vampire's tone crushed against her. Recognition hit like the lightning that pierced the sky at that moment. A glimmer of a feeling she hadn't felt in a while surfaced but was quickly swallowed by the predominant darkness. As Caroline turned the corner, she saw the bloody smirk that had haunted her for years standing against the brick wall holding a limp body in his arms. "Hello, love," Klaus motherfucking Mikaelson said as he threw the body aside."Well, if it isn't the devil himself," she bluntly said, crossing her arms, the distance between them getting cut in half. "What are you doing here, Klaus?""A man can't have a snack without being questioned?" He played, stepping closer to her."I can't give one shit about what you’re doing here, I just want to know if I'm gonna need to get an early ticket out of here," She replied drily, looking him straight in the eyes."I see..." He analyzed her behavior, the way her pupils fell in blurriness instead of the light they once housed. "I'm here to get a few ingredients for a spell. And, this might interest you, in only these few days I've been around, I've heard about this new murderous vampire that's been invading others' place of feast."
He has been here for days?
"Alright, who sent you? Your old homie Stefan or was it the sweet and kind Elena?" Caroline disdained, starting to walk away towards the road that met the alley on the opposite side they stood."I'm not coming back!" She screamed."Those people only think of themselves, dear. I would not take orders from them," He replied, following her.She could've run far away by now and left him behind talking to nothing, but she didn't. Questions got suffocated as they came up."Favors, on the other hand..." she implied, turning back to him, not stopping."I assure you, love-""Ugh, don't call me that," She interrupted him. "Love." She blurted out in disgust. That Caroline is in the past, this Caroline hates the word and the concept all around it. It doesn't make any sense. At least, not anymore."I assure you. I'm not on a mission involving you. Very selfish of you to assume that," He teased, walking by her side now. She looked amazing besides the emptiness that she exhaled. Her hair was buffed due to the wind, sticking on her forehead and neck because of the sweat, forming waves and spots with faint natural curls. Her makeup was slightly smudged around her eyes, lipstick far gone from the stolen kisses and bites, leaving a gentle hint of red. Her perfume was exquisite, sweat and a little bit of blood mixed with it and... honestly, all those things added to the closeted feelings for her was making him feel... things."Oh, I'm selfish now," She laughed, "You should see that bitch Elena, she's the winner of that title. And all you have to do to make her accept it is to put selflessness queen on it."He couldn't help but chuckle. Klaus held back on pointing out the jealousy in her tone, but it wasn't apparent enough, only mockery was there. It was only obvious that she didn't care. Or that was what she was trying to do."Where are you headed?" he started, looking forward to the empty park in front of them."Why the question? Don't you have better things to do?" She smiled suspiciously, was he trying to...?"I only supposed that your company would be the better thing to do," He cocked his head down, giving her his version of puppy eyes. "I do know how to identify a good one"."You mean a killing buddy," She implied, catching on to his intentions through those irritating blue eyes of his.The cold midnight air cut through them as they crossed the silent park towards the small red neon sign that glowed 'the cut' brightly in the middle of two buildings."That's included, of course," He added."Alright, then," She stopped and grabbed his arm. "If you're in this, there's going to be some rules you'll need to follow so that this works.""Carol-" He started, which would be followed by a very selfish defense - a Klaus Mikaelson classic - if she didn't interrupt him before he could do it."No. Don't even start. We're going in together, no death stares or anything like those extravagant announcements that you love to do. Nothing that draws attention to us," She stated, looking him down. "You're gonna need to change," She noted, picking at his suit coat with furrowed eyebrows."I fear there are no stores open to shoplift, dear," He commented, slightly bothered by the look Caroline gave him. He had picked his clothes. What's so wrong with a basic outfit? "No need," She said right before taking his coat casually -- getting extremely close to his face, which caught him by surprise -- and ripping almost half of his t-shirt off in one swipe. "There. A hot modern man!" The dramatic tone of her voice almost took him out of line."What the fuck?" He hissed."What? Don't tell me you're pissed. You should be thanking me, that was an ugly shirt. Besides, getting good fashion advice for free is rare these days, love," She chuckled, filling her tongue with indifference. She was having an enormous amount of fun with this."How? How can this tragedy be fashionable? I better be half naked if this is what you people are into today," He despised it, looking down at his newly styled clothes."Oh, please, do." She turned while walking, shooting a malicious smile at him, for which he sent a scowled look back.Caroline is different, he thought. And he's not naive to realize that this mask she has on is only covering the real storm inside. He's had those before, more than he'd like to admit.Klaus didn't say anything. He only followed her towards the bar. Trying to ignore the way his clothes felt - a crop top is definitely not for him. Loud pop music welcomed them as the compelled security guard let them pass. Lasers cut the space in between them while the blue light highlighted the sharply beautiful fangs of her mouth. The faint trace of perfume announced the successful catch of her prey.Flammable was her grip on his arm, pulling him backstage.Fire was the look she gave him when their faces were merely apart, holding an unconscious young man in her arms. "I hope you're up for sharing," She says. "Normally, no," He replied. "But an exception like this is welcomed.""Good," she smirked. Then, both went in. Caroline first. She moaned and sighed at the known deliciousness of blood filled with dopamine - compulsion did wonders. Klaus jumped in warily, not aware of what he could or should do that she'd be equally comfortable with.He was visceral sometimes but boundaries are something he respects.... most of the time.He bit the man's neck, just across Caroline, appreciating the taste, meanwhile eyeing her constantly. There was something in the air, he felt it, and she did too. He knew that because of the fiery looks she kept throwing at him.She paused, licking the blood that streamed wearily around the wound, while he paid attention closely. And then, once she got extremely close to his mouth, he captured hers pleasurably. The body fell limply as its parasites clashed together, having found a better feeling to relive. After that, the human body was left unnoticed by the couple, who flashed away regardless of bite marks and traces of their existence on it. Luckily, a huge sound box was in front of it, blocking the gory state of a half-decapitated body left for a rather unlucky soul to find.
A brick wall was the first thing that stopped them from running away forever. Caroline pressed him against the wall with her hips and Klaus' hands gripped her sides immediately, embracing her closer. Their lips desperately rubbed each other, outing the fact that both missed the easy, the ‘winning’ type of feeling they'd get when the raw and violently good emotion would finally have the opportunity and be granted access to the outside. The restless obsession over her kept him awake at times, leading his mind into utopic dreams about them together, living in a great world filled with the good and the best. All of that exploded in a million sparks, covering their heads on a delicious high, and piling up on their feet. His hand slipped to the back of her head, feeling the soft locks entangled in his fingers, meanwhile moans and huffed laughter escaped her lips as she fell into this feeling, this insatiable feeling that clouded every other like there was no blood good enough that could make her moan like that. Caroline felt his hands tighten his grip on her hips as if holding himself back; the deep sigh he let out confirmed her theory. So, abusing of her excessive confidence, she stopped the kiss so that she could have a good view of his face when her hand found one of his, still on her hips, and enlacing hers on his, dragged his hand downwards, and then, as his smile hesitated, left it on her ass, gripping it softly. At that moment, he felt like he could melt away, literally, the way his eyes weighed caught him so off guard, that he had to take a breath in for a minute."What? Have you never touched a girl before?" She dared to whisper with so much fake innocence in her eyes it was laughable. Caroline did enjoy seeing him like that. Her smile was so wide it almost felt like an insult, which he caught ferociously, holding her back so she wouldn't slip out of his hands when he pressed her against the wall, gripping her leg on his side."Do not dare me to such things, love. Your mind wouldn't know-" He hoarsely whispered back."I wouldn't know what?" She interrupted, keeping her chin up. "How you fuck?" She continued, holding his head with little force, feeling him steady himself in place to listen to what else she had to say. You sick bastard. “How you pleasure your partner exceedingly, breaking their world apart for a single moment... kissing..." She dropped a floppy kiss on his neck. "...gripping..." - his grip on her got slightly stronger - "...scratching..." her nails grazed his neck, sending goosebumps down his spine. "...and how, for one same moment, you lose control of your chains and let yourself feel it..."And just like that, with Klaus' gaze fixated on her, filled with throbbing lust and a hint of betrayal, he knew that she was only doing this out of thrill, that her true self wouldn't allow true feelings to come up and stay, but to appear, bring chaos and leave only a fragile version of herself to pick up the pieces. He does not want this to go to waste; the fantasy of their next encounter has a solid spot inside his thoughts, and this, although amazing, is not right. Is not real.A final kiss sealed their little battle. He cupped her jaw, settling his thumb on her bottom lip as their lips parted from each other."This was... great..." he looked for words as his eyes searched for the Caroline he once knew in her eyes. "But, I'm afraid that'll have to end right here...""Oh, but things were getting good..." She whispered, the last word elongated with a delicious raspiness. Klaus cursed himself. He tried to step back but she held him still by his belt. He couldn't help but grin back stupidly at her teasing stare. "Why?" She asked, with a tad of curiosity and suspicion in her frown."Do I need a reason to say 'no'?" He replied, maintaining a light tone with a grin still on his lips."No. But it's you and me that we're talking about. It´s different. What are you keeping in?" She conspired, loosening her grip on him, and allowing him to take a step back. "You're right. It is different when it comes to the both of us..." His pose was set up again, with hands behind his back, despite the obvious unbalance that she caused him. He looked up at her like he was completely unfazed by her questions. "...and I expect to give everything earnestly like I've yearned all these years." He had returned to her one last time, exuding nothing but all seriousness, catching Caroline by surprise."So, no. I cannot keep kissing you, even if I want to so badly..." Klaus' breath touched her lips. She hardly held a whine back in her throat. This wasn't supposed to be as hot as it was considering they were eating each other's faces a minute ago."...because you're not truly yourself, which would make the moment irrelevant entirely. And, I suppose, we wouldn't want that," He smiled, smug.Fuck him."Ah, fuck you!" She hissed with a passive-aggressive smile. "You are here to bring me back, aren't you?""Your friend is pretty convincing. She's a true one, the witch," He was already walking away as if his mission was completed."Well, you failed. I'm not going to be that Caroline again," She said, holding back tears that suddenly pooled in her eyes, her voice cracking. Fuck vampirism and its capacity to enhance everything so fucking fast."What do you mean?" He stopped, now a few meters from her. " You are Caroline Forbes, love, you'll always be, no matter how much you try to fight it.""You-" "At the end of the day, Caroline, we only have ourselves, might as well be friendly," He said calmly, knowing she could hear him even being far away from her."Besides, it's a pity you have such hatred for ‘that Caroline’," He turned around. "I was quite fond of her."And with that, he was gone. She couldn't find anything else to say after that.A few minutes after he had disappeared from her sight, she punched the wall she leaned into, unleashing this forcefully buried pain she'd been avoiding confronting since she came out of that house. Caroline didn’t want to feel all of that guilt, all of that pain again. She punched trees in half and destroyed benches and picnic tables because she knew that once the sun was up, people would come here to be together, families. She couldn’t do that, she didn’t have that… she had…no one.A few hours later, she found herself sitting on an old bench, away from the town, looking blankly at the lake in front of her, letting the tornado of thoughts and feelings crash against the edges of her mind… paralyzed, while tears and more tears cascaded down her face. And with not a fucking clue of what to do next. Until a whispering, soft, and caring voice came alight, pushing through the thick nothingness her mind fell into, saying:
It’s okay, we can try again.
We are Caroline Forbes anyway, aren’t we?
Mom would be proud of us.
