Cold. That’s all Alex could feel. His body was frigid. His face, hands, and feet were piercing with the bitter cold. He definitely had frostbite now if it hadn’t gotten to him before. If he could see his lips he was sure they would be blue from the winter air. He didn’t recall seeing a mirror in the bathroom, he scanned the place pretty well while trying to look for an escape, but he couldn’t see anyway in complete darkness. He was sure this place was abandoned as nobody else was there, with the exception of Mr. Dover coming by to torture him. He wasn't even sure how long he had been there because he had lost his perception of time, but he listened to the conversations of his kidnapper and knew it had been at least a couple days. Sometimes he wondered if the girls were still alive. The building didn't have any heaters implanted within them, even they did, he knows the man wouldn't turn them on. The closest thing he got to any sort of warmth was when the shower sprayed scorching hot water on him. But even that wasn't much of a comfort to him, the sensation did not mix well with his numbed skin. It would leave him feeling tingly, like his limbs had fallen asleep. The box that he was in was very uncomfortable, not many positions to be in. The makeshift walls were wooden and drilled down, but Alex was desperate. His body ached so badly, he was weak, but with what strength he had he rammed against the wood. He wailed at the pain it left in his arm. It hurt, but not enough for him to give up. With more cries he continued trying to break off the wall, moving into different positions to get a better blow. He was so distracted by trying to escape, he didn't hear the opening of the building's door and the slow footsteps approaching towards his enclosure, drowned out by the noise of his last ditch effort."Alex?..Alex, are you in there? Shit.." A voice called from beside him. He could hear the panic rising within them as the person tried to pull off the boards, cursing  at the plywood when they got a splinter. Suddenly he saw an eye appear on the other side of the pipe that Keller used to talk to him."Please help me.." Alex sobbed from the darkness. He was so tired, his body hurt. He heard a phone dial and rushed footsteps as his consciousness faded.-A bright white light was all he saw when he woke up, matched with electronic buzzing in his ears. It burned his eyes, causing him to blink a couple times before he could adjust. He couldn't see, everything was too blurry. That might have been a product of his injuries and the absence of his glasses. He moved his head to look around, taking in his surroundings. Both his neck and body ached, but it was a lot less than what he experienced. He didn’t feel as cold anymore and noticed he was lying down. Although he couldn’t see that well, he could make out some things such as the bed he was in. He saw what he assumed was a bedside table, a white stand with a monitor on it, green and red flashing on the screen, and an IV drip. He felt relief wash over him once he realized he was safe within the hospital. He could feel his body grow sluggish knowing that information, causing him to doze off back to sleep.-The next time he woke up, there was someone sitting next to him in a chair."Alex?..Hey bud, how are you doing?" He recognized that voice, it was the detective."I.." his voice cracked from disuse, "I can't see." His response queued the man to grab something that looked like glasses from the small table beside him, and place them on his face. A face came into focus, one pupil was bloodshot and a bandage was on his forehead. What had happened to Detective Loki? "Thank you.." He tried to sit up and found that his body would not let him. He was still too hurt for that. He decided to just settle with looking at him from the pillow. He furrowed his eyebrows as he scanned him again."I got hurt, but we found the girls." Alex's face instantly morphed into an expression of terror."You aren't in trouble." The expression then turned into confusion."Holly Jones is gone, you are now in safe hands. Everything’s over." Loki smiled sadly at him. Alex just stared at him with a blank face.He thought that he was gonna be with Holly the rest of his life. He had grown fond of his kidnappers and saw the couple as his parental figures. He knew she and her husband were bad people, but after living with someone for 26 years, you get used to their abuse. Now knowing that she was dead, it was almost sad. At least when her husband disappeared he still had her. But that means he gets to see his mother again. He clung on to all of the memories he had of her when he was kidnapped. He memorized their address and when Holly gifted him her old RV, he drove over there and reminisced about his old life. His mother must have moved out after she knew he wasn't coming back, because as long as he had been going back there it still had been on sale. That’s a main part of the reason that he never escaped. Because he would have nowhere to go. If he went to the police office they would just think he's crazy and then Holly would find him again and hurt him. That's what he thought, what Holly had conditioned him into thinking."So.. what now?""I don't know bud, that's up to the doctors. But I would guess you’d stay here for a while until you're healed and after that I'm not sure."Alex sighed and looked at the ceiling."What's my name?""Huh?"He turned his head to look at Loki who seemed puzzled by his question.“What name are they going to call me?" There was a moment of silence."Your original name, I think. Barry, Barry Milland."Loki thought he saw the faintest smile twitch onto his face.
