Leo was drifting in the void holding tightly in his hands the picture Casey Jones Junior graced him the luxury of having as he watched his soon to be murderer come barreling towards him with a malice in its face that could have rivaled the Shredders Then the space behind him lit up with a blinding light, when he turned around it gave a sense of calming. It was warm… familiar even. It reminded him of his brothers. When Leo heard people joke about ‘Don’t go towards the light’ he never did think he’d do it himself. As he reached out to it he heard the creature behind him scream something incoherently. Well it was probably actual words but Leo couldn’t work up the energy to make them make sense. He felt comfortable, the pain in his body melted away as the warmth of the light overtook him. He expected to be cold when he went, like how those people in movies explained near death experiences. Then he saw his brothers through the portal, and hope finally filled his eyes. Sure he could be hallucinating them, but he would have rather not died then to see them again. Each of his brothers had tears in their eyes, hell even donnie did. Mr emotionless bad boy, in tears. It made the knot in Leo’s stomach twist in guilt. Regret even. His brothers seemed to be calling for Leo. So, he smiled at them, voice hoarse with tears streaming down his face. Even as his vision began to fail him, he still managed to speak. “What took you so long?”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
It was quiet when the dust finally cleared. After the explosion in the sky, the death that littered the collapsed streets of New York, after everything happened the world seemed to stand still. A soft breeze flooded the streets, easing the tension of everyone now staring at the sky where the portal that was meant to eradicate the entire Earth’s population opened, and was soon after forced closed. No one seemed to believe what they were seeing. No one moved or made a sound. They didn’t want to break the spell of hope that filled the humans and Yokai alike. Then out of the silence, someone cheered. A small boy, about 11 years old, cheered. Soon after others joined him. Those who experienced losses cried tears of relief as those who were in the unknown threats control, collapsed in exhaustion. Many helped others out of the streets into homes that were mainly stable compared to the ones strewn along the roads. Others helped patch others wounds. Others counted the dead. No one knew of the saviors on the tallest building in the city, no one would have guessed they existed before this incident. Not until a small group of humans disbelieving the aliens left of their own will, snuck onto the top. They looked over the remains of what can only be guessed as a part of the cockpit of the ship that was half way through the portal when it closed. They almost investigated the ruins when a blue sparking light caught the girls' attention. The two boys and single girl made their way around the ship expecting some extravagant machinery that totaled the enemy in seconds. Instead they were met with nothing as fancy, the only evidence of anything being there was a single blue Odachi that sparked blue again when one of the boys picked it up. They were about to leave with it when it sparked much more aggressively and broke into blue pieces that flew in the wind. A wail followed this shortly after, one of pure emotional pain. The three were curious enough to follow the wail towards the wreckage, poking their heads just over the cracked walls just higher than they were. They then started to make their way into the ship's old cockpit, until they heard voices. Distant and panicked but still understandable from behind the ship’s roof which have fallen and given cover to the two voices. “Raph call dad. Call him or April or whoever, we need to get Leo and Mikey home.” A rough voice called out fast paced while cracking every now and then. “I’m trying, Raph is really trying. Donnie grab Mikey, we need to start moving.” This voice was lower and equally if not more panicked than the first. The girl almost decided to walk over when the taller of the two boys accompanying her grabbed her wrist and muttered something to her. She muttered something right back which was drowned out by the wirr of technology which made the three tense up. “APRIL! Are you alright?” The lower voice almost screamed, causing the other to snap. “Raph! Come on!” It sounded more like a plea than it did as annoyance. Then a more high pitched voice rang through the echo filled room inaudible by the time it reached the three childrens ears. “They need medical help immediately- Where did you say you guys are?” Donnie persumidly said their voice covering its shake with collective annoyance. The high pitched voice spoke again then had one of the voices hum. “Right we will be right there. Raph?” The wirr of technology became louder at that as the other voice hummed. “On it.” Then there was a futuristic whoosh and a crash. Which seemed to be the turning point for the shorter boy as he started to run to help their saviors. The other two followed suit and ended up crashing into their friend when he stopped suddenly. Now staring eye to eye with what looked to be a mutant with a smaller mutant in its hands. They looked to be… turtles. No, it didn’t matter as the one in purple seemed about ready to collapse. Just as quickly as they stopped, the turtle bolted for the hole in the side of the other still stuck in its grip like it was afraid if it let go the other would cease to exist. “RAPH WE’VE BEEN COMPROMISED-“ was all the trio heard as the voice became fainter and fainter. This left the three confused. But honest to god ready to fight god for their saviors, which looked younger than the three were.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
After the invasion was prevented about a month ago people could say things mostly have settled for the world. The government was stirring quietly in the background of the ruins of the city during the first week or so before seemingly dispersing to investigate elsewhere. (Most likely due to the rumors circulating around about how they might have been involved in the invasion.) The people whose lives have been demolished have been given pension for the damages and buildings were being rebuilt, therapy was even given out to the survivors in New York. Schools and jobs opened up around 2 and a half weeks after the invasion and there seemed to be much more security measures around but that did nothing for the public except settle the whispers of the rumors of the government's involvement to ‘knowing’ glances at each other. Hell people seemed to start to walk the streets once the debris was fully cleared away, going about their days like the world wasn’t in mortal danger weeks before. However the key word there is ‘mostly.’ For just under the crippled city was a group that couldn’t adapt to the change that was needed from the world. Not yet at least. The group… No. The family living in hiding from the surface, was struggling to piece itself back together, they all knew this. Especially Mikey who was pacing his room picking at his bandages that wrapped up to his shoulders. He was worried about his brothers, not just them he was worried about everyone. He hasn’t been in contact with Draxum since the invasion which he suspects is because the Hidden City was blocked off from New York. He only knows this because April in turn hasn’t been able to contact Sunita or anyone they know from the Hidden City and that left something eating away in his gut. He hasn’t been able to talk one on one with Donnie since they got back and got everyone checked out for injuries that they could do little about. Since the moment he could he locked himself in his lab and as much as Mikey has tried to coax him out of their lab… nothing seemed to work. The family knows this is how he copes sometimes. As self destructive as it is, Donnie needs time to recover. Hell Raph has hardly recovered from the incident. Sure he is around but he isn’t okay. As much as Raph thinks he's fooling Dad April and Mikey, they all can’t ignore the flinch around them, like he’s afraid that he might hurt them. That’s not to mention his avoidance of mirrors lately and his almost blind eye. His mental wounds are as bad as Leo’s physical.Speaking of, Leo is still the… scariest change to Mikey. When the family got home he was the first in the medic bay and honestly he fell asleep the first day back and hasn’t woken up since. He’s alive sure but he was the medic, no one else really knows how to help at this point, Dad has hardly left his side since he didn’t wake up the next day. Mikey suffered a similar fate for a few days. He was out for a full 4 days before he became fully conscious and when he did his arms were ridden with pain it never truly stopped either. They were constantly shaking, and no matter what CJ says it isn’t going to 100% heal. Nothing about this was right to Michelangelo. No, it won’t be right for a while, and sure he knows that but it’s still hard to accept. He stopped pacing when a particularly painful spike of pain traveled from his wrist in particular up to his shoulder, he hissed and looked down. He tore through his bandages again… He stared at the tear as his arm shook slightly before silently cursing himself and cupping his wrist gently with his other hand and turned to leave his room. He wanted to visit Leo anyway… He quietly wandered through the darkness of the lair realizing it was in fact a lot later than he thought it was, and started towards the medbay. He passed through a cluttered kitchen that hasn’t been used as much as it probably should have been given he always ended up spilling something when he tried cooking now and he hated it. He hated the idea that he could hardly do anything anymore. Sure he wouldn’t have traded what he did for anything, but it did get just so tedious when he wanted to do something he could have done before this mess. It always ended with either a mess or a breakdown. Or both. Mikey snapped out of his thoughts when the sound of beeping started, and he realized he was at the Med Bay already. The stinging from his wrist beckoned him forwards, yet every time he has come here he hesitates. Sometimes he doesn’t go in at all. But as his arms yelled in protest he opened the door slowly and shuffled in. His gaze flickered to where the fluorescent light was brightest, before focusing on the table in the middle of the room. The only notable noise was the rhythmic beeping of machines and a slow and soft breathing from the corner of the room as Mikey continued forwards. He scanned the table as he drew nearer and reached for the same bandages he has on now and medical tape. He isn’t as good at replacing them as he was just fixing the holes he makes with his nervous picking. So he moves to sit in his usual seat and begins his work every so often, his mind wandering to the slider in the bed just out of reach. Then something flickered in Mikey which caused him to tense up. Warm familiarity spread through him as something he hadn’t felt in the past month sparked to life, the feeling was but a whisper, still Mikey wished to cup the feeling in his hands and save it for the rest of time. He might not have known the cause of it immediately but it clicks when Mikey hears movement in the otherwise empty room. His head spun around at neck breaking speed as he shot up. He stood there staring for a moment, at the corner as the machine's beeps sped up. And like a scene from a movie, dull blue eyes connected with tear filled golden ones.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Footsteps raced through the halls, hitting painfully loud on the tiled floor as the boy ran.Breath sharp yet filling to the 16 year old as he could hear his assailant running quickly after him.He clutched the cold metal container to his plaston and ran as quickly as his legs could carry him.He was sore, his wrists, ankles and neck hurt but he got his restraints off so he is taking that as a win.He turned the corner of the hall and continued his race down the hall, all he had to do now was find his way out.He wasn’t as fast as he could have been but given the fact he has been in this white hell for ages.God he’s thankful that the halls weren’t trying to blind him as he ran.Something zoomed past his head, close enough he could feel the heat of the pink laser fly past him.It hit the wall in front of him and sizzled, it burned the darkened drywall as more came barreling towards the boy again. They didn’t need him alive now…
He needed to go faster.
Pain rippled through his legs as they started to feel sore, the adrenaline wasn’t helping him continue, but he needed out
OutOUT!He could smell the smoking of the guns behind him, the fact he hasn’t been shot yet was astounding. Then again he was stumbling a lot. He’s shocked they hadn’t caught up yet…He couldn’t hear their footsteps anymore…
Why couldn’t he hear them anymore.
The answer quickly came as the turtle felt a bone crushing punch hitting the center of the back of his neck. The boy was sent almost flying forwards taking a pain filled gasp of air as he curled around the metal. His shell hit the wall as he felt more than heard the man behind him draw closer.“This… was your last chance 014.” The turtle heard His sickly sweet voice crawled up his shell. The turtle's fear instinct spread faster than a wild fire as he was up on his legs and arm, clutching the container. His pupils were all but slits in the boy's wide eyes, as the man breaking a solid 6’7 cracked his knuckles stepping forwards. The turtle felt his limbs move before the giant could continue. He couldn’t get far as he felt his leg get grabbed as he was thrown full force into the opposing wall.Blinding pain shot through him as he laid for a moment in the indent he was used to create.Just as quickly as he was thrown he was picked back up, the man's hand almost engulfing his torso as his ribs screamed at him.“That wasn’t the smartest idea, was it tortuga?” The man cooed, the effort numbed the turtles logic as he bit down on the hand.Hard.The man wailed in agony as the turtle's teeth pierced aggressively through flesh and he was dropped. Not taking a moment he bolted grabbing the cold metal dropped in the throw. He heard the man behind him shout as red lights flickered on around him.Doors shut loudly through the halls.Breath ran short. The man behind him bolted forwards. And for a second, the turtle knew this was where it ended… Then the door above him closed. Pain erupted from his already battered shell along with a loud snap as he let out a blood curtailing screech. He couldn’t register the metal rolling out of his hands or the fact his other arm was trapped. He was too focused on the sheer blinding pain that emitted from his back.It hurt as he laid there with the door trying to push deeper into the turtle. It hurt when the man pushed the door up and grabbed the turtle by his arm.
It didn’t hurt enough when he could make out the fact they weren’t leaving him dead as they originally planned.
He felt something cold press against his arm, unable to sense much more too focused on his shell, he slipped into an almost maddening sleep.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Dust swirled through the wind of the room. Misery stained the boy’s face as drops of blood echoed through the emptiness. The knife in his cold hands dropped shakily to the floor ringing against the floor. The boy stepped backwards, staring at the sight ahead of him. He momentarily stumbled and slipped and dropped into the warm liquid beneath him.Red stained his legs and his forearms where it splashed onto him. He killed them. He didn’t mean to. He really didn’t. The man grabbed his wrist and tried to drag him off… oh gods he didn’t- Tears dragged red down the boy's cheek as he sat there in shock staring at the man’s lifeless corpse as silence continued through the seamless night. Then came the footsteps. They came as a soft putter in the silence, before continuing to grow louder and louder, until another rounded the corner and dove into the boy. The two slid slightly through the red, as chirps were exchanged from the other. At first rapid before slowing to a stop as the other sat up and looked on at the scene before him.The other looked around, at the man, the warm red liquid moving as they moved and the other’s brother.
The other’s soul.
The other gripped his brother’s shoulders, soft chirps escaped him, comforting and earnest and the boy broke into sobs. The two embraced each other through tears as the blood began to chill, neither broke apart. Even as the last of the boy’s tears dried. The boy held onto the other as though he was his life line. Then after a long while the other lifted the boy up, hands under his brother's arms holding him steady. Chirps of reassurance continued through the silence as the other kept the boy upright.
After all, he was the boy's spirit.
